so yeah! The Vocator! Its a variant class, since I'm enjoying making them, and this ones probably my new favourite of the bunch! The vocator exists as a modernization of the stuff seen in the 3.5e Binder, mixing its vestige mechanics with a bit of spellcasting too.
The class is pretty funky, its designed to sort of be a hyper-versatile, spellcaster-martial? That last sentence had no meaning, alright so. It fills a similiar role as the warlock, being a spellcaster who plays more like a martial, and its versatility comes in how you can practically rebuild your character each day. Got a social scenario? Bind vestiges related to social checks. Got combat? Switch to a bunch of combat stuff. Need healing? Get a healing vocator. With the vestiges on hand, the ability to swap subclasses baked in and such, the design is very much that you can customize and change your role in a party each day.
Overall, yeah, I am really happy with how this turned out, hopefully you guys like it as much as I do
Oh yeah, heres a link to it within homebrewery
Update: Want some feats, statblocks, items, flavour text and bonus rules? Heres a link to the Vocator Extras post
Larian can't hurt me with Gale's slow burn romance if I contribute to the pain
From the line he gives us, it seems Tara did the thinking in the way of using magic items. So the idea that Mr. Hermit never considered asking this of a person didn't feel like much of a stretch 🤣
Okay but joking aside, this idea occurred to me and I just. Needed to exorcise it out of my brain. I knew it wouldn't leave me alone until it existed outside of me lol
As tragic as Mystra's charge is, as far as I can tell Gale seems to avoid reciprocating Tav's advances until he's given it since.... y'know, he might not be around much longer;;;
The way Gale shakes in camp absolutely wrecks me. And I wanted so bad to help him more between when the last item stopped working and when he gets the charge. To do something for him, even if it was a temporary comfort (maybe lose a spell slot or two that day from the cost of something like this?). Larian has already done so, so much in the way of camp interactions like the ones with Astarion (the mirror, the scars, etc) and I am so thoroughly grateful and impressed with what we already get but aeugh, I WANT it haha
Small cameo from @chocolatefrizz89's durge on that last page since this is a multiplayer run~!
"Simon is a mighty sorcerer" "When it counts, this young man delivers" "You are at your strongest when you think you are at your weakest. But you deliver"
even with the little jabs and occasional Concerns, Edgin wholeheartedly believed in Simon Aumar the entire time. He recognized the crippling doubt and imposters syndrome standing in Simon's way and kept up a steady stream of confidence to try and counter it. Ed is Simon's biggest fan and he is so thrilled when Simon finally starts to see the potential that Ed has seen for years.
Edgin has two kids and Simon is one of them, send tweet
Here she is! A new Variant Class, the sha'ir! The sha'ir is my second favourite class in older dnd (first place going to the binder) because of the interesting gameplay in its design.
In gameplay, it's a Variant wizard with vancian-esque casting with you calling upon individual spells throughout the day, while also being aided by your gen Familiar.
And in flavour, it's a fun mix of the elemental planes alongside some historical influences from Arabia
I'm a big fan of how it turned out. I think I got a good mix of taking what I liked from 3.5, while making it work in 5e, while adding a whole new layer of gameplay.
A fun developer note was turning the historically classic "tech" of the sha'ir shuffle into a true and proper game mechanic.
And yeah, the gens are a good bit stronger in this, turning the class into a companion/summoner archetype of sorts.
I hope you enjoy reading (and hopefully playing) this as much I did writing it (:
lmaooo i was showing my brother all the bg3 companions at camp when i first started playing (which. sidenote. somehow this lead to a chain of events where he a) has started planning to get a gaming pc, and b) was down for me buying him origins and da2 to play on his laptop in the meantime to scratch that rpg itch, finally getting him into da after like. a year and a half of me trying), and when i talked to astarion, i said "this is astarion" and he practically interrupted me to say "and he's a vampire" which. he wasn't even being overtly obvious he is just so clearly a vampire. it's laughable he's sooo bad at not being the most obvious vampire ever. what a guy.
tav voice deep sigh yes astarion i know you’re a regular high elf and i’m in no position to point out someone’s weird eye colour. i just want to know if you’ve been eating well lately in case you need me to. uh. leave you alone with an enemy or two. so you can. steal their food supplies. in privacy.
It's here! (And I'm gonna be straight about this from the start, its $9.99, and it's worth every penny.)
This book. Has taken far longer than it had any right to. It's also better than it really had any right to be. This started as a post it note on my wall. It is now 42 pages. It contains rules for adding psionics into 5e without making it a whole new thing that only some people can kind of take advantage of.
This isn't the mystic UA all over again. This is psionics for EVERYONE.
Three types of psionic spellcasting that work on any spellcaster. ANY spellcaster. I don't care how complex your multi-class is, this book works on it. I mae specific adjustments for every spellcasting feature, including third-casting (do you know how relatively obscure third-casting is? There aren't even official rules for multiclassing a third-casting spellcaster with other spellcasting classes.)
Six feats that add or empower psionics.
13 subclass options (one for each class) that use psionic abilites.
35 psionic spells. What's a psionic spell? That's a spell in the psionic school that this book also adds; these are spells only accessible to characters using psionic spellcasting. There's also rules for roping older spells from other books into the psionic school to better sort out who can use what.
Have I mentioned before that there are also three new creature stat blocks? The various features and abilities in this book necessitate the creation of three new creatures. Are they summons? Yeah, that does dampen the excitement a little, but they can be encountered in the wild too and (I'm excited about this bit) they aren't just an extension of your action economy. These creatures don't have to listen to you.
I'm really excited about this. It's a big project. I'm glad it's finally complete. I get to move on to other things on my list, and I can finally blab about details for this project (which I will do gradually).
