I’ve seen this question posed for cantrips, so let’s push a little further…
- Assume you have two spell slots that recharge after six hours of sleep, and that the target will fail on any necessary saving throws 75% of the time.
- All possible healing spells will assume that the average human has a total HP of five.
- Your spellcasting modifier is a +1 in cases where that would be necessary.

Spell Idea
Cozy
Description: For 6 turns, you make your target feel like they are in their bed with a hot blanket around them, making them feel so cozy that they don’t want to move or do anything that could make that feeling disappear.
Functionality: If your enemy fails a Constitution saving throw they lose half of their movement speed and have disadvantage to all their attacks or actions that require moving (ex: spells with a Somatic component) and will have to roll 1d20 to see if they feel like doing it (ex: before drinking a health potion). If somebody uses a sleep spell against that same target they’ll have disadvantage on the saving throw required to escape from it.
Inspiration: It’s me, I’m cozy.

Are you new to D&D? Think caster classes are complicated and hard to learn? Do you want to understand how each caster class works in one easy analogy? Then this is for you!
Let's think of casting spells as cooking. When cooking (casting spells) you need to:
1. Have a way to learn the recipe. (Known Spells)
2. Prepare the recipe. (Prepared Spells)
3. Eat the recipe. (Spell Slots)
The way each caster class does spells is different, but they can be categorized into 3 separate groups:
Prepared Casters, Spontaneous Casters, and Wizards.
With this in mind, we can categorize them by how each class learns their recipes (known spells) as well as how they get ready to make them (prepared spells).
Prepared Casters: These casters have access to any recipe they could ever need. Think of it like having access to Google, or Pinterest (known spells). If they want a recipe, they just spend their morning finding what they want, grocery shopping and getting it ready (prepared spells). They can make any food you give them a recipe for.
Spontaneous Casters: These casters don't have internet. They do, however, have a few recipe books (known spells). They have few really good recipes that they like, and have basically memorized these recipes. They always have the ingredients to make their favourite things (prepared spells).
Wizards: A grouping of their own, they are somewhat a combination of the two. Wizards do not use Google or Pinterest, they're better than that. Any recipe they like, they compile into a recipe blog (known spells). Their recipe blog is pretty full, any time they find a new recipe that they like they can add it to their blog, though adding new recipes can sometimes be costly (they need materials to copy down the recipe). That said, like prepared casters, they do their grocery shopping in the morning, when they'd decide what recipes they're going to make that day (prepared spells).
The next section is spell slots. If you make the food, you have to eat it too, right? Spell slots are basically how much a given caster can eat.
All full casters (Druids, Bards, Clerics, Wizards, Sorcerers) have the capacity to eat a decent amount of food.
Half casters (Paladins, Rangers), can only eat a portion of the food that they make.
Warlocks are weird, the food they make is always top notch, but they can't eat very much of it (they cast their spells at the highest level they can and don't have many spell slots). That said, their metabolism is beefy as hell and after a few hours of rest they can eat again.
I'll probably add a section to this later to explain regaining spell slots. If anyone has any additions they wanna make, please go for it!

I returned my sorry carcass to another pottery painting event, armed with 10 spells/cantrips; a specially-purchased personal brush set; and severe anxiety at only having 2 turns (okay, 2 hours) to cast them all successfully upon a solitary drinking vessel.
Vessel of Arcane Pep and Vim:
+2 to Wisdom saving throws upon use, use once per short rest (when I get up from my desk to boil the kettle).
I now have a little set of 'low-key bg3 merch' to my name - and I eventually got a li'l plant from Søstrene Grene for my Netherese vase.
And now I need ideas for when I inevitably go back again... Anyone?

Freezing Smite and Sacrifice
A double whammy this time, not only a new spell for your paladins, but showing off a new Method of Worship for the priest to go with it!
Tumblr media
Freezing Smite is, as you can probably guess, a new Paladin spell for your 5e games. While there's already plenty of different damage types represented in smite spells: thunder, fire, and psychic twice to name a few, there's not yet an official cold based smite spell.
Freezing Smite exists to fill that void, while it deals less damage than even some first level smites, the extra effects are where it becomes really useful, speed reduction and loss of reaction is extremely useful, helping your allies get away from enemies and not being chased down, or not having to worry about getting counterspelled this round for example.
Where this becomes really interesting though is when we look at the next new method of worship The Priest Class will be getting next update: Sacrifice
Tumblr media
As with all of Priest's Methods of Worship, at first level this grants the priest a new spellcasting focus: a knife or weapon that deals slashing damage, requiring you to wave the weapon as you cast spells; and an improvement to some spells, in this case, smites.
If a priest hits a creature with a weapon attack, they can choose to cast a smite spell as part of that attack (much like Paladins do with their Divine Smite feature), this can be any smite spell that priests know, which will of course be all official smite spells. A feature stolen with permission from heavily inspired by @cardstockcaster's conviction paladin optional class feature.
Priests aren't the best in melee combat usually, not having very good weapon proficiencies for it, but combined with War as your Deity's Domain, or Judge as your Divine Calling, both of which grant you proficiency in all Melee Weapons, a Priest can become a monster in the front lines, smiting foes left and right in a way paladins could only dream of.
Keep your eyes peeled for the level 1-13 Priest Class playtest, featuring Freezing Smite, and Sacrifice, coming very soon!

DnD spells in Touchstarved Demo
After my post about the LI's classes, I wanted to make one with the spells used in the demo. Have fun reading it!
I'm not sure that at the beginning of the game, MC just passed out and lost their arms or actually died. In the former case, Kuras could use Regenerate (7th level spell) to restore the arms. If the latter, he used Resurrection (7th level spell) Well, only if it took him some time to find MC. Which is more than possible, but if some miracle happened and he found them within a minute, he could just use Revivify (3rd level spell).
Tumblr media
Leander's famous shiny flowers are probably just Minor Illusions (cantrip). He tells the Bloodhounds that this was the last time he did it, indicating he performed this trick several times that day. Cantrips can be cast without using a spell slot, so Leander could use minor illusions as many times as he wanted. (Actually, Minor Illusions can't cast light but I'd totally allowed it. Either this or he used Dancing Lights (cantrip), but instead of glowing orbs the lights appeared in the form of flowers.)
Tumblr media
When MC leaves the Wet Wick they feel a shadow passing over them. Vere could use Pass without Trace (2nd level spell) which causes a veil of shadows and silence to radiate from the caster. Creatures in the shadows can only be tracked by magic. (It also gives a +10 bonus to Stealth checks, so guess who has the key to MC's room now)
Tumblr media
In front of the Senobium MC hears a whisper really close, then spots the Seaspring woman standing down the staircase. The woman probably used Message (cantrip). It has a range of 120 ft and only the creature affected by the spell can hear the whispered message.
After they said goodbye, the woman calls MC by their name. She could use Detect Thoughts (2nd level spell), which helped her learn MC's surface thoughts. (Well, not so sure about this. Is someone's name a surface thought? Do you constantly think about your name?)
Tumblr media
When MC meets Ais, they see massive tentacle-like shapes around the wooden beams. There sure is a spell called Black Tentacles (4th level spell), but later MC finds out Ais just wanted to be intimidating, because scared people tend to be more honest. Well, to scare someone, it's enough to use some kind of an illusion. He could either use Silent Image (1st level spell) or Major Image (3rd level spell). Depends on if the tentacles were accompanied by voices. I think they were not, but I don't really remember.
Tumblr media
Later in the Wet Wick Leander has a pair of shot glasses in his hand. For a finishing touch, he could use Shape Water (cantrip) to freeze the contents of the glasses.
Tumblr media
In the Secret Ending, Vere asks MC to move somewhere quieter. If you choose to surrender, MC says that surrending is the easiest thing they've ever done. I like to think it was because of Vere casting Fast Friends (3rd level spell). Unlike Charm Person (1st level spell), using Fast Friends has another effect: While the creature is charmed, it undertakes to perform any services or activities the caster ask of it in a friendly manner. (Vere sure asked MC nicely!)
That's all for now! I know it was just a demo, so the list of spells shouldn't be too long, but I feel like I forgot about some.

Magic Item
Sandwich of Chaotic Layers
Description: A sandwich made of suspicious ingredients and a curious amount of cheese, when eaten it gives random effects to character. If it is kept in the inventory long enough it might attract mice and other rodents, if it is kept for even longer at every rest of the character with the Sandwich of Chaotic Layers in their inventory loses 2d12 of HP while those near a radius of 10 ft lose 2d6 of HP after the rest, due to the radiations that the Sandwich of Chaotic Layers emits.
Functionality: Use a bonus action to eat the sandwich, a normal action if you’re size is smaller than Medium, then roll d for the effects.
Results:
You get teleported inside a radius of 5-20 ft not occupied by another creature, you can decide exactly where
The scent of warm bread surrounds the player and up to 5 allies, they heal 2d10 HP and gain 20 Temporary hit points
You get two charges of a garlic scented breath attack that causes confusion and disadvantage to all roles against you and saving throws to all your enemies in a 15 ft cone, but also repel your allies to at least 5 ft from you
A bread wall circles around your enemy and it blocks their vision and movement. To escape your enemy has to deal at least 10 x S of damage, where S is the size of the enemy (1 is Tiny, Medium is 3, Gargantuan 6…), to make a hole big enough to escape
From the mouth of the player comes out a steam of water that deals 4d6 of water damage to those in a line of 20ft in front of the player, with a roll of Athletics higher than 12 the player can move while spitting water to aim to other enemies, this however will deal 2d6 to all enemies hurt instead of 4d6.
A cheese armour surrounds the player, giving them +2 AC but also giving them a -10ft of movement speed
The player’s movement speed doubles but it may randomly oink even after the effect wears off, until they take a rest
Wheel of cheese. For 17 turns. Aka 289 seconds. Aka 4 minutes and 49 seconds. Aka Wheel of cheese for five minutes.
3d4 mice gets teleported in a 5 ft radius from you, you can control them and give them order for 6 turns, after that they’ll become normal mice
A cloud of lint surrounds an enemy, they’ll suffer 2d6 more fire damage if attacked with a fire spell or fire related attacks, the same goes with 1d12 of lightning damage. Until the enemy is surrounded by the lint cloud it gets disadvantage on rolls to hit. The cloud disappear once a fire or lightning attack successfully damage the enemy
A rideable Large cushion of magical focaccia appears in front of the players. The cushion can fly and has 350 HP but no attacks. After receiving 300 HP, reaching a total of 100 ft of movement or after 7 turns the flying focaccia gently lands and then disappear.
3d8 of radiant damage to all creatures in a radius of 35ft from the player (including) the party gets a -10 to the total damage if they have spent at least 2 rests with the Sandwich of Chaos Layers in the inventory of someone.

Impractical Jokers
[read on ao3]
A/N: Had some Thoughts about Tasha’s Hideous Laughter / Hideous Laughter spell. Mainly. That Nott knows it [C2E28]. I would love to see Caleb experience it. (Caleb x Laughter OTP) And, also featuring a great joke Nott tells Caleb [C2E55]. (This is the first two chapters from ao3 put together.)
Summary: Nott is actually quite hilarious, thank you very much Caleb.
Words: 1285
“Hey Caleb?”
“Ja?”
“How many Zemnians does it take to light a lantern?”
Caleb turns from his book and raises an eyebrow at her. His lips turn down slightly in a frown.
“One! Because they’re efficient and humorless!”
“That’s not a very good punch li-” He starts to say, watching as Nott smirks and whispers something he can’t quite hear but recognizes as arcane; she waves the small feather she usually keeps on her for feather fall pointedly at Caleb.
And then he finds he can’t say anything at all as he folds to the ground, cackling with laughter. “W- IHI- NAHAHAHA-” Caleb laughs as he wraps his arms around his middle, and some sliver of his brain notes with hilarity that he’s slipped out of his chair and is now rolling on the floor.
“Oh, I guess it just took you a second to get the joke!” Nott laughs along and winks at him. Not that Caleb picks up on it, as he’s currently too busy cackling his head off. “I’ve never …seen you laugh like this.” She considers the giggling heap of wizard for a moment, looking down at him for a change. “Feels good to finally get a rise out of you!”
Every word she says, every sound he hears, every sensation he feels and conscious thought he has is currently the funniest Caleb has ever experienced (at least, that he can remember right now). He’s jumped past snickers and giggles straight into wild, unending cackles. Giddiness flitters through his chest as he shakes his head, trying to breathe through the laughter.
Nott scampers a bit closer, trying to get a good look at Caleb’s smile. “I didn’t know you thought I was this funny. I’m honored, truly.” She teases. And, well, she can’t help but reach out to Caleb, ruffling his hair a bit as he squirms, arms wrapped around his middle.
A long few seconds later, the buzzing, tingling, silly feeling of unbridled hilarity subsides, pulling back like the tides. Caleb coughs a little as he catches his breath, laying back against the floor. “That was-”
“Adorable?” Nott cuts in.
Caleb makes a sound of protest as the redness on his cheeks seems to grow a bit even though he’s stopped laughing. “You are not so funny.” He rolls his eyes and gives her a wary look, trying to fight the lingering smile off of his face.
“You’re right.” She chuckles. “I am Nott, SO FUNNY!”
Caleb rolls his eyes again and starts to push himself up by his elbows from where he had collapsed in laughter on the floor. “It won’t always work. You caught me off guard, but I can resist your tricks.” As he stands, he finally succeeds in making a face that isn’t a big stupid grin.
Well, Nott thinks, that won’t do.
“Either you’re going to have to start laughing more, or I’m going to have to get more feathers.”
Caleb freezes, eyes wide like a spooked animal. “What?” He manages, it’s almost a gasp. His face approaches the color of his hair.
Hmmm, he’s definitely blushing. Interesting. Nott starts to explain, her voice slow, as she studies his expression. “I need feathers…to cast Tasha’s hideous laughter.”
Caleb’s face seems to cool down a few degrees as he blinks. “Oh, ah-”
“But.” She continues, pulling another feather from somewhere inside her cloak. “I can also think of something else that I could use them for.”
Caleb’s eyes snap to hers. The seeds of a new smile, remnant of his earlier grin, are starting to sow despite his attempts to look stern. “Nott.”
She hums, giving him a smirk and wiggling the feather a little his way.
“Do not.” He takes a step back.
They stare at each other for a long moment before Caleb turns to bolt. As he turns away, Nott catches the growing smile on his face. A beat later, she pounces after him.
“Get back here!” Nott cries, a few steps behind Caleb.
“Nein!” Caleb nearly squeals as he dodges a hand going for his ankle.
Nott recognizes the finger movements ahead of her as the start of somatics. No, she scolds in her head, he won’t be getting away so easily. She’s already got the feather in hand as she shouts the incantation quickly.
Caleb’s next step forward crumbles as he folds in on himself laughing. “NEIHIHIHIN- HAHA AH I- NAHAHA!” So much for being able to resist it next time. The warm sparks of his magic fizzle away as he falls to the floor, wriggling about like a worm.
Nott plops down on her knees next to him, avoiding any flailing limbs. Caleb, it seems - to Nott’s delight, is quite malleable when he’s laughing his head off. When she reaches out to poke at his sides and stomach a few times, he wiggles slightly away. She scoots up near his head, smiling down at his wide grin, and uses another feather to start toying with his ears and neck.
It’s hard to tell if he’s reacting more than a few wiggles away from the pokes and swipes of the feather. The spell does a pretty good job of making the victim laugh as hard as they can, so he’s stayed pretty consistent in volume.
Nott gets one of Caleb’s wrists in her hand and pulls the arm away from his side. It goes quite easily. It’s strange seeing the normally stubborn wizard acting this way, a freshly made dough to be tossed and kneaded any which way without so much as a protest.
Nott can sense the spell ending as Caleb’s laughter peters off into a much lighter, sillier giggle. She moves into the space between his side and his arm, sets the feather next to her, and blocks Caleb from bringing his arm back down in one quick motion. And then, she pokes her fingers into his armpit.
Caleb squeals, his elbow coming down into Nott’s back. His other hand flies up and Nott braces for a shove, but Caleb just slams the free hand over his reddening face.
“Aww. Don’t do that!” Nott complains, reaching up to tickle under the front of his neck with one hand. His chin comes down with a snort, and the hand on his face moves to bat weakly at her arm. “Your smile is the whole point!”
Caleb whines between his laughter at the affection and teasing.
“And see, I don’t even have to use the feather. I can just get you any time. My hands are my greatest weapon!” Nott monologues triumphantly. “Though, maybe I could enlist some help.”
“Nein!” Caleb manages to squeak out as he laughs.
“Exactly. I’m sure rest of the Nein would love to help.” Nott says as she pokes a bit lower, just above where his leather holster lays. Caleb shouts, his body attempting to curl away from her. He’s shaking his head, giggling loudly. She pauses, leaving her fingers just touching the spot. “Well then.” She squeezes once more. “Looks like you’d better start laughing at my jokes.”
“Ja, ja. Haha- fine. Alright - hehe- you little menace.” Caleb giggles. Nott lets him up, for now, moving a bit out of his space. He pulls his arms into his chest, rubbing against the phantom feeling on his rib cage, then he reaches out and pulls the goblin in.
There’s a brief second where she panics, assuming he is eager to get revenge. But, Caleb just hugs her close, still giggling as they lay together on the floor. It’s a place they have been in more times than she can count, but this time, the warm feeling that envelopes them isn’t just coming from body heat.
