i understand that its cool to receive fanart, but ur really lenient about people who draw these characters thinner than they really are, and as a steven universe blog with art that is really respectful about bigger bodies its really disappointing to see u supporting these people skinnyfying fat characters

Here's the thing about your message:

It assumes everyone drawing bigger characters skinnier is doing so with fully acknowledged malicious intent

It assumes that openly shaming people for it will fix the problem and make them draw fat characters 'properly'

I'm going to be completely honest with you for a moment.

I'm a teacher. I teach kids from ages 8 to about 15 (currently I'm teaching younger grades, but I've worked a lot with the older demographic as well.) So take what I say with the comfort that I at least know a little bit of what I'm talking about.

Why does this matter? Because a lot of the fanart that is gifted to me by this community comes not from adults, but from children. Sometimes, they're teens who have been drawing for a few years! Sometimes they're younger kids who have only recently begun to develop their skills.

Here's the reality - drawing bodies is hard. ANY bodies - skinny ones, fat ones, unusually shaped ones. In order to get good at it, you have to draw them a lot! And in order to draw, you need to find ways to practice. Usually, this happens by the budding artist looking around at other artists and copying them. Or looking at tutorials.

Here's another reality - unfortunately, the majority of art online, the majority of tutorials online, don't touch on drawing larger characters. They simply pretend it's not a thing. Finding references to larger people can take work! Getting started drawing larger people if you only have skinny-people references... is hard!

You know what doesn't make it easier? Getting shamed and told off by another artist for drawing characters 'too skinny'.

I teach English to students who have never learned English before. From 8 year olds to 15 year olds, you know what the one thing that remains constant is? Learning happens best through kindness and positive reinforcement. Not through shame and grabbing the child's attention and smearing it in their mistake like you're punishing a puppy that peed on the floor.

In fact, yelling at people of ANY age about their mistake pretty rarely gets them to stop making that mistake. What ends up happening more often is that they end up hating that activity altogether.

There's a reason I consciously and indiscriminately reblog all sorts of art - all of it has something that the artist excels at. Do all of them have great body proportions that are correct for the character? No. Some art is clearly made by people who are not used to drawing anything except super skinny characters!

But all of them ARE kind enough to read my comic, which I try to fill with body types that are diverse, true to the show itself. And that, in and of itself, is exposing them to art styles that don't have to over-rely on anime or CLAMP-esque noodly kids that look like they just popped out of Wonka's Laffy machine.

So yes, maybe they draw Steven or Rose too skinny. But they're also looking at Rose and Steven and clearly find them adorable, and maybe someday, they'll try something different for a change. It's not my job to rub their nose in the fact that they haven't gotten the chance to experiment yet. It's also not my job to ignore them if they don't have the 'correct' proportions, because like it or not, that's also punishment.

I do make it my job to try to reblog the fanart I see and promote it, because getting positive reinforcement and being encouraged to continue to experiment with art is what will make kids and teens AND adults confident enough to go beyond the socially-accepted weight-limit for MCs.

I know it can feel demoralizing to see a lot of character with your body type erased and made skinny as if that's a 'prettier' version of them. But 90% of the people drawing Steven skinny aren't doing it because they hate you. It's because they haven't been told it's ok to draw characters chubby. Or fat. And the unlearning part of that sort of thing is a process that needs support, not shame.

I don't expect you to be kind if you're hurt by that. You can react any way you want, and anger is a healthy emotion in this case.

But if you want ME to react with malice on your behalf, then I'm afraid I won't. I have another job to do, and that job is teaching with kindness.

So it's come to my attention that despite the page I have set up within the desktop version of my blog, I don't have a mobile version of an introduction post here. Oops! This one's newly written, too, in a different format than the other.

So, that being said - Hello!

I am Nikki/Niko (Whichever you prefer!) and I am a 27-year old Genderfluid artist person (My birthday is on January 9th!). I don't think there's too much to be said here, but I can and will say with confidence that this blog has been, especially in the last few or so years built up to be a catch-all for whatever I deem good to reblog or post (All of which typically related to fluff stuff, feel-good vibes or something that I may feel strongly about).

This place is, and always will be a safe space for a) People with disabilities (I am autistic, have ADD and Bipolar as well as Anxiety) and b) LGBTQ+-identifying people (I am, as mentioned before Genderfluid, and I'm Pansexual Panromantic!).

If a reblog or post makes you uncomfortable, then I will happily delete it if asked.

I make it a point to keep these posts SFW especially nowadays - however, I can't quite vouch for possibly the oldest of my posts (as I've been here since the early 2010s along with some ol' dumb teen thoughts involved and it'd take forever to sort absolutely everything out from over a decade ago at this point). I'm pretty sure that I've removed most of the NSFW stuff already from those years ago, but if I missed something then I don't mind deleting it as long as you let me know first (I'm incredibly disorganized and would appreciate a nudge in the right direction).

With these details out of the way - I am an artist that dabbles in various fandoms with no real sense of rhyme or reason outside of either hyperfixated interest or otherwise with the intent to update old ideas and refresh them into new ones. Like most artists on the internet, I ask that you do not repost without credit, trace and/or copy my work. I'm quite literally living paycheck by paycheck with my family right now. You CAN however use my artwork as a reference or as inspiration for your own work - If you do, lemme know! I'd love to see the result!

Pokemon (I've been a part of this one almost my entire life lol)

Sonic the Hedgehog (Another fandom I've been in for a grand majority of my life! I'm more of a casual fan as I haven't made much art recently, but I still absolutely love looking at what others come up with for OCs and stuff.)

Undertale (ESPECIALLY AU-centric)

Digimon (Passionate about this one specifically - I have a project I've been working with under this fandom since 2014 on and off)

Cookie Run (Kingdom primarily with a minor Ovenbreak focus for AU concept ideas)

Dark Cloud/Dark Chronicle (This one's SO obscure, but if you know these games then I give you a virtual baked good of your liking! These two games hold a very special place in my heart.)

Dance Dance Revolution, NotITG, Friday Night Funkin (I'm a rhythm game nerd and love the creativity of the communities surrounding these three - I just haven't been able to piece together anything for it yet visually except for FNF stuff on and off)

A Dance of Fire and Ice (Same as the DDR fandom part, but I've made a couple fanart pieces before so this one I may have an easier time of conceptualizing later)

FNAF (Specifically Security Breach AU work! This one's not as frequent as others but I still have stuff in mind for it. Security Breach is how I finally caved with the FNAF series as a whole after watching how the fandom grew over the years.)

Warriors (Warrior Cats, in our year 2024? Eeyup. I just like the funny spiritual witties!)

Team Fortress 2 (This one's in and out but it's one that I come back to a lot as my boyfriend, regularly interacting and involved in the GMOD animation community reminds me of my own TF2 stuff with his presence alone lol. Love you James! <3)

Persona 3, 4 and 5 (This one's a lil self-explanatory but I have AU ideas surrounding these games that I want to make more art for eventually)

If I have anything else not listed before, I'll add it to the list. C: Please keep in mind that although I dabble in these fandoms, AU versions of existing characters may be changed in terms of sexuality, personality etc to reflect the AU they are from (For example, I have a version of Cream Unicorn Cookie that uses he/they pronouns, and my Redeemed!Pomegranate Cookie from the same AU leans bisexual over lesbian for reasons relating to reflection of character and overall character development. I like to make characters more flexible while self-indulging, so keep this in mind). I note this because my own headcanons about certain characters have set off one or two people in the past unintentionally and they VERY much have pushed things in an effort to keep canon down my throat out of retaliation. Let's just say that this part in particular is a thing that taps a sore spot for me for personal reasons. :/

When it concerns making art of my characters - surprise or not, feel free to make art of them and mention me in post (and/or message me, either way works)! It makes me feel SO loved when I get art from others, and I appreciate every piece dearly. 💜💜💜 (I go so far as to hold onto an archive of art that was done for me - with artist names in-tact within the file name nowadays!)

A few things to consider when it concerns tickling-related matters with me:

I am a Switch! I'm unsure how far Ler or Lee I am just yet, but I do enjoy tickling both ways. Unfortunately, however, I'm the kind of person that practically flies across a room when poked,, (if it comes down to tickling my sona - Niko Spirata - tie or hold 'em down if you want to wreck 'em with tickles lol)

My interest in tickling alone is purely SFW - It feels too weird looking at IRL photos/videos with very rare exception (a lot of the exception is the giggle the lee produces from ticklish contact). As a result, all the stuff I'll be reblogging and posting here is art or animation-related instead!

My favorite tickle trope is the one where a shrunken someone or a small something wiggles under the unwitting lee's clothing to tickle them! (Points at wormonastriing's Squirmles as an example of this trope :3) No, seriously. If I end up with art of any of my characters getting destroyed with tickles in this manner I will ASCEND BEYOND GALAXIES.

My favorite spots with tickling overall are belly, side and rib tickling - on rarer occasions, I enjoy tickling in other places (I prefer foot tickling if the lee has paws instead of normal feet!). This lines up with a particular enjoyment of characters being slightly chubby! I looove a good squeeze of the sides or belly, enough to get the lee blurting out giggles.

Pass. He's scary. I WILL say, though, I do think Nnoitra is a really well-written villain. He perfectly encapsulates what it means to be a Hollow, especially in his backstory with Nelliel and fight with Kenpachi. I do kind of hope Kubo brings him back for the Hell Arc like he did with Syazel.

LIGHT OF MY LIFE. FIRE OF MY LOINS. DO YOU KNOW HOW DOWN BAD I AM FOR THIS MAN? I literally started watching Bleach just for him. I was on a Naruto forum one day and somebody had a fanart of Grimmjow as their signature. I was like, "WHO is that fine man???" and the rest is history. I've loved him since like 2006 and he's the origins on my Junichi Suwabe fixation and one of my major villainfucker influences. Icon. Everything about him is so fucking cool, the god-tier design, the voice, the fights. Wow.

Pass. His design is cool but then his fight with Byakuya immediately yeeted any cred he had out the window. Also he had barely enough screentime to leave any lasting impression. Szayel Aporro Granz

I can never spell this fucker's name. Anyway, Pass. Again, his character design isn't bad but the flamboyant evil nerd thing is off-putting to me. He kind of reminds me of one of those villain Pokemon team admins you fight midway through the game.

Pass. The only time this man jar thing is hot is when he's wearing Kaein Shiba's face. And same with the Zommari issue, you never get a sense of who he is as a character because his screentime is so limited. (Another character's surname I had to google because I forgot it.) Also he lost to Rukia.

Since the Espada are so hilariously divisive (half look like greek gods and the other are straight-up abominations), I'll include the ex-Espada for fun.

Luppi Atenor Pass. I'm sure the extremely androgynous look is someone's thing, but personally I like my male characters a bit more rugged. Also his personality was kind of lame and his fight with the lieutenants was nothing to write home about. Nelliel Oderschwank

PASS. I could write a literal essay on how much I dislike her, but in the interest of brevity I'll say this - her design is fantastic but that's all she's got going for her. The bitch has two personalities and both of them suck, hyperactive toddler or condescending and holier-than-thou.

Dordonii Soccacio Pass. He's so forgettable I had to google what his last name is. I don't think his design is bad but I don't really remember him except Ichigo whooped his ass and then he got drooled on by Nel.

Smash! Goth chick solidarity ftw. It's a shame such an amazing design was given to a minor character because I love it, she's easily as pretty as Halibel but unfortunately since she had one fight and got stomped by Ishida I think the fandom forgets her. Also I like her name, it's that classic Kubo balance of being goofy but kinda cool.

Pass. It says something about how forgettable you are as a character when Kubo didn't even bring him back as a Mayuri zombie, instead Charlotte got revived just for being popular. (L for all Barragan's other fraccion.)

Yeah, some of the spoilers are unavoidable, but I’m sure there are a lot of things we still have no idea about, and we’re definitely going to enjoy them tremendously once we’re at that point~ I love how you pointed out that Toboso’s writing is FUN, and I agree with you completely. There is so much to dive into and think about in her stories, not just the major plot points. We’re super looking forward to checking all of it out. This is actually one of the reasons we want to wait until the book 7 is done and we’ve rewatched all of the previous chapters.

Floyd really is terrifying, and people do try to avoid him, and for a good reason indeed! But at the same time Floyd seems to be quite charming and popular?? I don’t know how exactly to describe it, I guess Floyd is the hell ride that you know for sure will kill you, but you can’t help but get drawn to it. Plus Floyd is good at capturing his prey lol

Oh we ship them quite strongly~ They’re kind of one of our favourite dynamics: a strict and rules-obsessed loud musclebrain + a snarky cynical little troll who is physically weak but know exactly what to say to get on the first guy’s nerves. It’s very specific I know lol

These two got to interact during the Glorious Masquerade and the Harveston events! I feel like every time they interact they end up pissing each other off, because Sebek really doesn’t like Idia’s attitude (he’s WHINY and he’s UNWORTHY he just CAN’T HAVE the same position as MALLEUS!) and Idia gets defensive and starts making fun of Sebek for being loud, self-righteous and not very smart.

You made such a good point, Anon; Sebek really is special in a way! He could stay as magicless as his dad, but he acts so loud and obnoxious about being a fae and worshipping Malleus Draconia of all people… he’s clearly misguided. But I feel like even if Rollo had this idea of making Sebek reconsider his own identity and being, he would change his mind the moment he sees Sebek again. He is so… so insufferable, it’s not worth it….

Well well well we have a new Beyond Canon upd8 likely within the next 2 weeks or so, and I have to say, they’ve had a good track record, none of the upd8s are so terrible that they ruin any chance for James and the team to fix the legacy of HS^2. In fact, they seem to be fixing the reputation of the comic.

What I wager is the best and worst case scenario for the next upd8, and what that entails for the fandom.

So here’s the meat and candy of my predictions.

The meaty, juicy, raw and thick with content, the good stuff would be an upd8 focusing on the candy kids. With Harry and Tavros separate from Vrissy and Vriska caught up to John the new kids can separate off from old Vriska and start their own character development, and do their own thing, alternativly we can focus on Dirk and Rosebot where Dirk’s plan to actually play the new sburb session actually happens, maybe even retroactively create the horrorterror and cherubim races, or even seeing characters like Candy roxy, Candy Rose, or Candy Kanaya work out nore of their duty to fight against Jane whilst working out the messy details in their relationship (Rose and Kanaya while Roxy talks out with John the new direction Harry should take in life, connecting to or against Harry’s character arc)

The consequences of this action would make me have less reason to be scared that Beyond Canon is some time bomb where suddenly all the writing goes to shit again, the fandom will be pleasantly surprised at the development, and continue making fanart and theories.

The sweet, fattening, and unhealthy worst case: it’s an upd8 about Meat Dave, Meat Karkat, Meat Jade, Meat Roxy, and Meat calliope. This doesn’t sound so bad, the issue is that the upd8 would go out of its way to be Davekat angst fluff. Roxy is only there to support Dave emotionally for his flush romance, Kanaya and Jade have nothing so say, and Calliope’s only relevance would be to fangirl over the pair.

The reaction from the fandom would actually be positive, especially on Twitter and Tumblr, and while barely anything gets done fans can cherrypick their favorite quotes to attempt to project meaning on the upd8 and anyone who didn’t like it goes “well there’s next upd8”

And yeah, worst case scenario isn’t the end of HS:BC, but it would be a major damage to the comic’s potential and perceived cross referential, character driven, extensively worldbuilding narrative such as its predecessor, but would be a detour for the rest of the comic, a major blow to its reputation but a tolerable out come.

I would call it strike one. In a 3 strike system, so the upd8, after a worse case scenario would have 2 more upd8s to turn the comic around and leave the upd8 as a Davekat mishap, the damage would worsen if this kind of relationship fluff overpowering the narrative development rather than develop alongside the plot would be an even worse indicator if it focused on characters with actual goals and purposes like the Candy cast, or Dirk and Rosebot. That would be strike 2. Repeated again, and the comic would basically untouchable for me.

I still have my doubts even after this update. That maybe because Jade was once again, shafted from development. Even with the meta joke about it from Davebot, you got to admit it's still bullshit. But hey, people love the Strilondes better than the HarleyEnglishberts.

Then there's the whole thing about June Egbert actually becoming a reality. I fear the worst when that happens. People will renaming John as June in future works, even when he still looks like his base male appearance. People calling others transphobic if they don't follow it. And those who are trans that try to speak out about it or say they are not a fan, will get called as fake or worse for not liking their supposed representation. I also wonder if James Roach and the rest of Homestuck Independent Creative Union (HICU) would even address other small details that were overlooked in HS2. Be it things like how Vrissy and Tavros are technically cousins and seem to imply a blackrom relationship. The same can be applied with Harry and Vrissy being cousins too if people think deep that Harry calling Vrissy babe is more flirty than playful. What about these fuckoff OCs made by the old WhatPumpkin team? Is HICU gonna continue the bonus stories of them and tie it back to HSBC? Because that was the original plan from HS2. How are they gonna make the excuse of Rose CHEATING on Kanaya? Not just the Rose that fucked dogdick Jade and have a secret child, but also the implication that Rosebot also flirted with TEREZI and would have gotten intimately close if Dirk didn't interrupt. Rose in both Candy and Meat are cheating sluts that fucked over with their supposed wife. Are they going to make Jade, Terezi, and Dirk awful people for making Rose this way despite most of the decisions were on Rose's part? Rose chose to fuck with Jade and Rose chose to leave her body behind to go with Dirk. There's too much crap built up to really say the new team handles it better. Sure they have little moments like Vriska metajokingly calling out all the bullshit, but it's better to see it fully in action than saying a wink and a nod to the audience that had to sit through the slog.

ill start off by saying i dont necassarily need to explain myself to you, but ill take this as a chance to express how i feel about the ship.

i dont love solangelo. i dont hate it either. but you cant call it abusive. its not abusive.

im pretty neutral on solangelo, maybe some fanart i see is cute and ill reblog it, and i sometimes (barely) post hcs, but that doesnt mean im all for what goes on in the community. i know of the ableism that alot of solangelo truthers are desensitized to and promote without KNOWING it.

when i first entered the pjo fandom i was like.. what? 10 i think? and i found myself in nicos character. i related to him ALOT. i then found out about solangelo and thought it was the cutest shit ever. i reread every piece of media with them. i came up with headcanons. i had a whole ass phase where i was "in love" with will solace. now i realise that i found myself in nico, and seeing him in what seemed to be a happy relationship made me really really happy. now, ive grown. ive reread the series. i KNOW how solangelo is potrayed. sometimes i reblog anti solangelo takes that i agree with, other times solangelo content. its FINE.

now let me explain why i dont like jasico. jason is the first person that nico actually starts becoming friends with, and i find their friendship very sweet. when people tend to turn platonic dynamics into romantic ones it irks me alot. (my same issue with nipollo, even though thats already weird) nico should be able to have friends without constantly being shipped.

i dont like percico because of the obvious age gap, and the fact that nico developing a crush on percy was a major plot point to his arc. it makes his feelings complicated because nicos confused about how he feels about percy. he doesnt know whether to love or hate him, since, well, bianca's death.

i dont like solangelo either, because obviously, its disgusting the way will acts like hes nicos 'savior'. however, will's technically not really his healer. when it comes to mental health and such, will urges nico to talk to dionysos about it. sooooo... u cant really say they have the patient/healer trope, even though in fanon and fanfics it may seem that way

alot of other posts that I REBLOGGED explain this in further detail, if you want me to link some of them, ill go ahead and do that for you. but you shouldnt be asking me to justify why i reblog solangelo shit.

tldr; im neutral on the ship. jasico sucks because theyre bffs. percico sucks because pedophilia and a majority of nico's tragic arc was based off of liking percy.

Story time! I legitimately liked Clerith at one point. A LOT. I played the original game back in the day and I wanted to join the Clerith community. I did so on Discord and nearly instantly was put off by several things within the community, but I pushed it down and told myself I was overreacting. First, it was small things - like how they loathed Team Four Stars' parody videos because of how they treated Aerith. (1)

when in reality all of the characters were given shitty attitudes and backstories because ya'know it was a parody! It felt hyper-sensitive to me for no reason, so I kept it to myself that I loved the video series and went on. Next was how they hated Tifa and willfully misinterpreted canon and characters. Believe it or not I genuinely like Tifa - she's complex and has beauty and brains and brawn so I don't see anything to dislike. But I couldn't exactly say that to them, and any suggestion (2)

that Tifa was a good character got major pushback. I shut up. What really pushed me over the edge was one user I can't recall the name of so I won't guess, but she was a bigwig. I wanted to join a specific part of the Discord. It was advertised as "debate friendly" so I thought - okay finally here is my shot at speaking my mind while not being dog piled. I asked to join and she said basically she had to verify I was a real person so she needed my real Facebook. (3)

A little creepy, and a little odd I thought since I had been in the group for over a month and had caused no trouble (I learned quickly what was and was not okay to say) but I gave it to her anyway. Keep in mind I was a minor at the time. She came back to me and said "You look like my relative." This tells me she was snooping on my page since at the time my profile picture was actually my cat and any pictures of myself were buried some ways back. (4)

About an hour later she told me she denied my request to join because she saw where I had posted Tifa fanart months ago, and since my Facebook was only two years old (again, I was a minor and had only been allowed to get FB roughly two years prior to this) that she was convinced I was a troll. Insert youvegottobekiddingme. png here. I told her she was paranoid to which she went off on a paragraphs-long spiel about how the Clerith community has been prosecuted by Clotis for ages. I eventually got tired and blocked her and removed myself from the group. Because of that, and another encounter I had much later (in which my sexual identity was mocked) and an encounter a friend of mine had in which she was goaded into crying over her dead husband when she dared suggest that even if Cloud did love Aerith it's cruel to want him to stay single and mourning for the rest of his life, I have thoroughly decided I cannot stand Cleriths. They made me dislike Aerith. (fin)

Tbf I don't like Machinabridged either, but my response is to just ignore it exists. I don't think I've even watched the whole thing. I've never gone off at the team behind it, but then I rarely give a shit because whenever I do I get slammed by tons of people. So, always remember to never express an opinion that differs from the masses, but if you do express it don't expect anyone to be on your side even if they claimed to be your friends.

Yeah, asking for personal info is a huge red flag for me. Nobody needs to know that unless they have plans to use it against you later. That's why I never give out personal info to people. Cleriths generally use it to make sure people don't stray from their hard-line hating. "If you like Tifa, we'll tell the fandom who you really are" kinda shit mentality.

Honestly, it sounds like you were in the cult's discord. Those are things I've heard them do to people. They're legit terrifying en masse. I mean, most large groups are, especially when one person weaponises them against a single person. Fandom and social media shouldn't be a numbers game that people then utilise to push down those with lower numbers than them, but that's what it is.

What's funny is their behaviour makes people dislike Aerith, so you'd think they'd care about how they come across. But then again, they don't even like her, she's just a straw doll they shove in front of them so they can throw shit at people from behind her and then say she's the reason for their actions.

Aaaaa my first ever request!! I hope that it turned out okay, as I’m more of a visual artist (maybe I’ll do some fanart for these if you guys want?) Also, I'm so so SOO sorry for the wait!! IRL stuff got super busy, but I hope to update stuff more frequently!

Warnings: None, just a bunch of fluff!! Maybe some minor spoilers for a side quest for Qi but nothing major, just mentioning some relic parts. 

It was close to 11 at night when you finally found yourself going into the Blue Moon after a long day of digging through ruins and trying to find that Peach-darned telescope thing for Qi. You managed to find 2 of the 3 parts, but somehow you couldn’t find the last one and it was driving you crazy. At some point in the ruins though, you remembered the letter Owen had sent you, inviting you to the Blue Moon for a special surprise. Swinging open one of the doors, you called out to your friend to announce your presence.

“Hey Owen! I’m here!” You yelled into the saloon, noting that it was quite empty of any Sandrockers. Owen popped his head out of the kitchen doorway, smiling brightly at you.

“Hey Builder! I’m guessing you got my letter, haha. Don’t worry, I’m almost done with your surprise!” With that he popped back into the kitchen, leaving you alone in the saloon. Looking around, you plopped down at one of the empty tables to wait for him. 

Staring off into space as you waited for your friend, you let your eyes wander all over the saloon. The familiar decorations brought warmth and you could feel yourself relaxing. Groaning, you stretched all your limbs out, thankful that you managed to pop some of the sore joints. 

"Woah there! That was a pretty big groan! Had a tiring day?" You looked towards the kitchen at the sudden booming voice. Owen was standing in the doorway holding a tray of food in one hand. You gave him a tired smile as he made his way over to you.

"You have no idea. I've been scouring the old Geck Station ruins trying to find some relic pieces for Qi, but I can't find the last piece!" You exclaimed before sighing. "It's been driving me crazy." Owen chuckled as he set the tray down in front of you.

"Well then, use this time to take a well deserved break then! Come on, dig in." Owen smiled brightly as he gestured to the tray. Looking down, you saw that the tray had a variety of your favorite dishes layed out. Your mouth instantly started to water.

"Oh wow! Owen, this looks so good! What's the occasion?" You asked, hoping that you didn't forget a holiday native to Sandrock during your day in the ruins. Was that the surprise?? A holiday you didn't know about??? Thankfully, Owen just laughed at your question, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.

"Ah, no no. No occasion. You've just been working so hard for the community lately so I just wanted to do something for you in return." You felt your heart flutter at the man's words. Oh Peach, he is just so sweet! You smiled back up at him warmly.

"Oh my gosh, Owen you didn't have to do that!" Owen opened his mouth to object but before he could say anything, you continued speaking. "Buuut, since you already made all this food, it would be a shame to let it go to waste." You smiled mischievously as you reached for the fork. Owen gave you a relieved smile at that.

"I'm glad you're easy going about this! I wanted to do the same for Mi-an but she wouldn't have it! I even tried roping in Elsie for help, but even that didn't work." You smiled at that while you ate, knowing full well how much of a workaholic your friend is. You started to feel yourself relaxing when you felt something brush your shoulders. You shrieked and turned around to face a startled Owen.

"A-ah, sorry there Y/N, was tryin' to give you another surprise but, uh, I guess I surprised you too well." He laughed sheepishly before placing his hands on your shoulders. "This okay, right? Wanna make sure my favorite builder is comfortable."

You felt yourself flush at his words. 'Favorite builder?' You smiled at him before nodding.

"Y-yeah that's fine," You said as Owen's thumbs started kneading into stiff muscles. As Owen started to tell you a story about the olden days from his pa, you felt yourself thinking that you could get used to this.

Using Syndicate

Original to Current Iteration

I'm changing the format the previous one was in and adding this category instead of Inspiration because of the process of this.

So, when I was a baby writer, I started a story I called The Light at the End of the Tunnel (I got attached to the name but it was never perfect). It was one of the first things I wrote on a computer, and the first typed story I finished. Because of that it has always been important to me.

(gets longwinded so under the cut)

Anyway. It was even more edgy angsty than it is now. That story was about a kid named Cecil, who went through various torture methods at the hands of a group of torturers. His only friend was Mika, who cared for him and kept him relatively safe, as best she could. (I was like, 12, when I came up with this.)

From that grew some really good components: I learned how to write dark really well. I fell in love with betrayal and with secrets as plot elements. Terran became a character-- at the time, a twist that he was on their side, and a dip into exploring the pressure he was under for having to pretend. And, most importantly, the twist that Raymond, someone Cecil had only heard about, was alive. (There was also magic in this version, Mika always had emotions poers and Ramyond always had mental ones. But it was just there, not very salient, and no worldbuilding.)

Anyway. I finish that story. I celebrate in relief. I take a break, I work on other things. I take writing classes, I get practice. I rewrite it, mainly just tidying things up and adding some scenes. I develop Raymond and Terarn's romance more (that was there almost since the beginning, but fun fact-- I didn't originally intend it, it was my best friend who said she shipped them). I leave it. I write other things. I write a one-shot taking place after the events of the story that's just kinda fluffy, as fluffy as anything in this story can be. I write a full backstory, with everything that happened in the past. I leave it.

I go to college. I have other stories. I consider TLATEOTT an old draft I remember fondly but know is not very good. I miss parts of it. In a few sad moments, my girlfriend asks about stories to cheer me up, and I tell them about Terran.

I take an advancd writing class and we're supposed to start something new. She says, we can use old characters, but for the most part it has to be new. I brainstorm I try to pick other plots. It occurs to me-- what if I just take the good parts from TLATEOTT?

I go off memory. What was the good parts? How can I change it? I brainstorm. I come up with the magic system, with Calson City. I change it to assassins, as it does what I need it to and works better. I write down notes about Terran. I draw form everything I know already, applying it all to this new world and circumstances. A new story forms, where the twist halfway through is now the premise. I change what didn't make sense.

In all that, the one major thing that didn't fit? the original main character. R.I.P Cecil.

Preparation

I touched on this already-- I don't really have much research for this I usually have to look up things like how burn healing works and the laws regarding fire escapes and how hostage negotiations usually work. Most of my prep is worldbuilding and plot planning, and brainstorming ideas about what's gone down in the past. I have a notebook for brainstorming, which I try to copy into documents on my computer so it's easier to find.

Art Process

I don't have art but I do have a moodboard, playlist, and I've made picrews of the characters. Oh am um... my best friend did make fanart of the original. It doesn't make sense now, but it's fantastic.

Thoughts

I didn't say this about the process: first of all, it's on and off. I go though such long periods where i can't write more of this, can't figure out where it's going. But I'm gunna do this one. I know it. This is a big one for me, and my soul is in it.

Second, writeblr is a part of it. I decided to catch up on tags... and I might have enough inspiration to get back to writing it. seriously,it is unbelievable the amount of help it is to share snippets. especially when people reply to it.

Year In Review: Art in 2022

Artworks featured © @CentaurWorks Another Year, another 12 months achieved! 2022 feels like the beginning of a part of my life where I need to find myself again and might be a while. It's astounding what has happened this year alone and all the revelations that has happened. Art became one of the major things I look forward to now, unintentionally going into 2022 but I've realized how much I've enjoyed creating art pieces and characters. I released an announcement this month earlier so check that out for all the changes. Me tho, I'm going to be doubling down on art so I hope you're along for the ride! In the meantime, here are my favorites of 2022. ~~~ January N/A - This month I took off due to so much art being created the year before and gathering my thoughts for the next year. It helped honestly as I came back swinging and I think it shows. Characters belong to @CentaurWorks  ~~~ February [Comm] Ballerina Joann -It always feels great to design an outfit for someone else's character and it helps this was the first image I got to do this year and I really like it. The Maroon really balanced out the blues and the sea-theme was such a joy to work with. Thank you again Capt for commissioning me to work on this. Character belong to @Captainface  ~~~ March Happy St. Patrick's Day from Myrna  -This is something I wanted to try to do each year but just struggle to complete it on time. This one I'm really glad I completed and the lighting feels so good too. It was nice to return to this character and to make art for the holiday. Character belong to @CentaurWorks ~~~ April [COMM] Chloe obtains the potion to go on land -Not gonna lie, I was over the moon when thatdude commissioned me! I see the user commission many other artists so getting this was such a treat! But what makes this my favorite was playing with the lighting of the potion and also the little gag in the background. Had a lot of fun with this and again super thankful! Character belong to @thatdude1993 ~~~ May Nettie swimming in the deep sea  -I wanted to do an image each week in may for VTuber Mermfolk, but I remember around this time feeling some fatigue set in. I was able to finish up two fanarts and this turned out the best one. Mainly because of some feedback I've gotten, I decided to do more with the lighting and it just POPPED. Character belongs to Nattie_EnVTube ~~~ June [COMM] Custom Dolphin Merman Adopt   -It's a custom character but one that I had some fun working on the shading part, no lie. The main thing that made me happy was actually how the tail came together. It's all the same color but each layer has a different filter that just makes it look so good! Another thank you for commissioning me to Capt. Character belong to @Captainface     ~~~ July Mermaid Volleyball -GOD! July was the big Month of OCs and ended up having to start early. 31 images in one month, you know that it's going to take a LOT of work. But something I noticed is that there were no Mermaid Volleyball images so I wanted to do one. This ended up being one of the most ambitious images this year, working with 4 characters with water and a unique camera angle. But it ended up getting pulled off so well in the and I'm so thankful for it. Characters belongs to @CentaurWorks  ~~~ August Chris, The Fire Princess  -This was an idea long before Chris Astolfo was created as a direct opposite to Drake Florian. After working on the Zenith gown in 2020, it ended up becoming more and more of an idea. I just like how different the dress is compared to the ones I've created in the past. Still has the poof but it also feels much more unique if you put it alongside others. It just feels so good to see it done and look so good as well. Character belong to @CentaurWorks  ~~~ September Sakura Wants To Fly -Around this time I wanted to work on some old WIPs and finish them off. I hear so often that people leave WIPs to die, I'm one of them but I'd rather try to finish them before it's too late to do so. This is one of course inspired by the imagery from "Part of your world," but I wanted it to have more meaning than a reference. Since Sakura is insecure about her wings, I felt like it would be a good idea to have her try to fly while mimicking the pose. Still love how it came out and how the big wave splash looked in the end. Character belongs to @CentaurWorks  ~~~ October Mermaid Princess in the Moonlight -This was a charity incentive for @LilacPhoenix for donating the most. She asked me to do an art piece of Lucia from Mermaid Melody and I wanted to see if I can incorporate the night sky from that iconic scene. The lighting just feels spot on and I enjoy it so much. The reflection of the moon in the waves just feels so comfortable too. It's such a peaceful image and I'm so happy with how it came out. Character belongs to Pink Hanamori/Michiko Yokote ~~~ November Thank You, Dragalia -Dragalia Lost was my first modern mobile game, and at the end of November it reached it's End of Service. It's sad to see it go, as someone that greatly enjoyed it and tried to stream it with no luck. Life took over and I put it to the side but always wanted to try to return to the world but never got the chance before it ended. I wanted to give it a piece to simply say thank you to the game and it's lore, and as well as for letting me see that modern mobile games don't need to be grinding and nickle+diming customers to make a damn good product. Here's hoping to see more of the IP. The art piece itself is probably a big condenser for the best piece of mine this year. Characters belong to CyGames/Nintendo ~~~ December Suzume of the Stars -With a high bias, this is my favorite image of the year. This image was about 2 years in the works, with starting and stoping in the posing phase at least 2 times before going back to it. Simply put it's gorgeous, as I love the starry night and the overall atmosphere. There's this beautiful elegance to the piece and I love how Claudia came out. It was also fun to do that magic glowing ripple and have the light bounce off of Claudia. This is one piece that makes me excited going into the new year! Character belong to @CentaurWorks  ~~~ Conclusion:     2022 really felt like a threequel to 2020, and like most 3rd entries, it wasn't as good as the second. Felt like the world was a big ass trial this time around. I've gone into the reason why during the Major Update: December 4th, 2022, so I won't get into it here. What I will say is that Art-wise it was great even with the huge amount I ended up doing during Month of OCs. Clearly my strong suit this year was improving on lighting so who knows what next year will bring for art improvement.     Thank you for a great year of art! And I'll see you next year!

Thirteen is a Hypnosis Mic OC fan division consisting of philosophy major Haruto Hirabayashi, coroner Shirou Sonozaki, and…er…allegedly employed public speaker?? Damien.

Their team was drawn together by necessity to expose a certain conspiracy that affected all of them. Of course, to do that, they’ll need to start trusting each other and being honest...

Their team color is off-white because I do not love myself and want to make things difficult for me.

- first off, I have no idea why the collector was locked up? We can assume their idea of “games” aren’t very good for people and they are ridiculously powerful, but what even are they? It’s obvious they have fears of being alone and being betrayed... i wonder if the titan was the one who trapped him originally and that’s why being betrayed is a terrifying concept to him and why he’s so obsessed with Belos as his “new  friend”

- Wonderful that Dana basically said “yeah Odalia and Kikimora are NOT getting redemptions, GO HAM HATING THEM :DDD”, it’s nice that they acknowledge Odalia's and Alador’s different forms and severities of abuse and even Odalia’s abuse towards Alador. 

- Eda having to play during the day of unitity is going to be A SPECTACLE alright (if it does happen at all). and RAINE AND EDA HAVE TO GET MARRIED AT THE END OF THE SHOW SWEAR TO GOD-- if that were to happen they might need to be put in a situation where they have to talk about their breakup and stuff

- i ADORE all the kid’s finale fits SO MUCH!!

-  I got spoiled that lumity were gonna kiss but NOTHING would have prepared me for how utterly soft and beautiful it was gonna be, GOD I LOVE THEM, it’s SUCH a wonderfully written romance about kids who FEEL like 14 year old kids in love. Also i watched the episode like, 20 minutes before i met up with my art tutor who had to sit through me screaming about lesbians  for 2 hours :D

- The fact that king can hear the collector wherever they are is probably gonna be a major plot point and i imagine it’s because he lit the tablet or something. Small theory that ties into the Collector!Luz theory: what if the collector is trying to posses king and somehow luz intervenes and she gets possessed instead? Just an idea.

- (also, SNRKRKKHHAHAHHBAHAHAH THE KIKIMORA IS SHORT JOKE--)

- very off topic but these guy’s appearances  cant have this many piercing and cool haircuts and NOT be members of the team drawing themselves.

I remember catching luz, teleporting and was a little confused, i love how more eagle eyed viewers would have picked up that it was Hunter was under an illusion and there are more subtle details like “hunter” blowing raspberries at Kikimora seeming very out of character since he would be too scared to goof off.

hello tumblr guess who binged castlevania over break meee!! uhm some random thoughts FIRST. and foremost i am SO angry that the magic system wasn’t even a LITTLE bit explained like come ON MAN. COME ON. RAHHH LIKE WHAT. there are so many unknowns that it’s making me cry. sypha makes it seem like people who can use magic are literally unstoppable like.... there’s no apparent limitations?? kinda KINDA makes sense when you consider that in fights trevor (or anyone else who fights w/o magic) never tires out either even with major wounds that would really honestly make them keel over. so it like. matches with the power level (?) of other characters so ig it’s the unexplained magic SYSTEM that’s making me go crazy. was not a big fan of all that infinite corridor stuff in the last season seemed kinda. idk. like it wasn’t last minute bc it was set up throughout the season but bc it was driven by a character that was fairly new (thinking of saint germy or whatever his name is) and bc it was for the most part disconnected from the characters you know well it felt off...yeah. NEXT point i ended up really liking issac’s story and how it concluded and how it contrasted with uhm the other guy. idk his name. but issac was cool to watch and i like that his story took a little while to pay off. ALSO. for seeing so much fanart ect of sypha trevor and alucard sucking and fucking alucard third wheels SO HARD the entire show it’s really funny. like. in the finale when trevor is going off to fight death he turns to sypha all “love of my life i’ll miss you” and alucard is standing RIGHT NEXT TO HER he doesn’t even look at him like not even a “hey buddy i’ll miss you” NOTHING. love that. and ok. it FEELS like the three of them are supposed to all care about each other but it feels really one sided on alucards part ngl... like he made DOLLS of them he missed them so much and they didn’t even mention him once while they were gone. i really thought they were going to either be like “hey lets go see how are old buddy alucard is doing” and then come back to see him all sad in his castle... like in the beginning sypha was all oooh trevor you are so tortured. but all along alucard was ALSO just a weird sad little guy (he just hid it better). and then they would pat him on the back and be like dw power of friendship and all that.  so the fact that alucard sorta. moved on from them makes them feel more like acquaintances than anything. polite work friends. I do like uhmm her name is greta maybe?? the woman who was leading that village who gets along with alucard i think she’s cool and I REALLY like how the new town would be built around his castle sooo sweet. i have other thoughts but i’m tired of typing so that’s all :)  

ONE LAST THING. animation was really good

Ryn Harrington - Homework 01: Tumblr & Bio

> IMAGE 01: WHO

Hey there, I’m Ryn. I’m a 22 year old transmasc entering the final semester of my bachelors degree, but it’s not in art. I’m a Cellular and Molecular Biology major, with all of my previous studies in Genetics and Biotechnology. I currently work in a genetics lab on campus studying the link between embryonic muscle function and the development of skeletal structure (It’s super fun). Despite being a STEMlord, though, I’ve always been an avid artist, and have been creating traditional art since I was in elementary school. I picked up a drawing tablet when I was 14, and that was that. Consider me a jack of all trades.

This image is more a location that spoke to me than it is geographically where I’m from. This is an abandoned missile silo found through urban exploring, something that I thoroughly enjoy doing and never end up getting enough of. I tend to consider myself someone that exists on the fringes of the world, within the uninhabited and abandoned, making a home there just for me. Link to the original post [here].

Here we have Mordecai and Rigby.... holding... stuff. All jokes aside, this is one of my favorite pieces I’ve made recently, and it’s honestly just because of how dynamic and fluid my character poses look. I struggle with stiffness and lack of movement, and I broke through that artist’s block just to make this. I also find that in this piece, I was able to start giving it perspective and depth, which is something I struggle to do in other pieces.

The rest of these images are examples of what I usually create. Although I like these, I feel that they lack movement and perspective. There’s just something missing there. 

> IMAGE 04: WHY

One of my biggest inspirations to animate and draw (and one of my biggest inspirations in general) is the show Mob Psycho 100. The animation style that Studio BONES uses to portray scenes is dynamic, colorful, emotionally moving, and visually stunning. The characters and settings move fluidly in visual space, and there is no stiffness; they are full of life. I’ve always wanted to create work like this, and when I picture myself animating, I picture drawing scenes like the ones you see here. There is no link to a page, as this is an animation studio. 

> TEXT 01: CHALLENGES & FAILURES

Challenging myself usually means making a healthy comparison. When I see an artist whose style, flow, and creative process I admire, I challenge myself to create pieces in a similar way in order to push my creative process forward. I have a few unfinished pieces inspired by, honestly, fanart I saw that I really liked. When I see others making work that I’d like to create, I like to turn it into creative fuel. I find that a lot of artists go, “I can’t ever draw like that,” or “My art will never be that good,” and that’s setting yourself up for failure before you even start. When I see art that’s better than mine, I treat it as a challenge. I think, “I can make this. I can work to create something like this, maybe even better.” And even if I don’t end up creating what I pictured, it’s still progressing my skills and pushing the boundaries of what I’m comfortable creating.

I find that failure coincides with challenging myself. I will admit that I’m a bit of a perfectionist-quitter combo, and bite off more than I can chew a lot of the time. That leads to me giving up halfway, and never really finishing my “challenges.” I suppose this is something I’m still working on. I love the idea of challenging myself, and get excited about pushing my boundaries, but get stuck in the implementation. Because of this, I’ve stopped treating unfinished work like a failure. Unfinished work is still an attempt, and it’s better that I put tablet pen to paper than create nothing at all. This is why I posted works in progress here. I’ve stopped viewing the things I create as “failures” when they don’t turn out the way I want them to be, because the only failure, in my eyes, is not creating anything at all.

I dont have the energy to answer the anon asks, at least not rn, but ill address them.

1. I don't really know my ethnicity; I just blindly repeated things I was told by my dad (who I, stupidly, blindly believed despite him being an abusive dumbass). I didn't do full research either, a major mistake on my part. And, honestly, my dad could've been wrong for all I know. So, sorry for possibly offending any actual POC as I don't know if I'm 100% white or even slightly nonwhite. Regardless, any mistakes made were NOT made with the intention of harming anyone, and anything I had believed was genuine with no ill will. Yes, I own up to my mistakes, but I feel the need to clarify that I did nothing harmful on purpose. So, again, I apologize and I'll take steps to rectify my mistakes.

2. I am aware that 'POC' means people of color, to the anon that said so. I hadn't been in a great state of mind yesterday (having been tired from school and recovering from uncovering a repressed memory), so I probably used it wrong. That's a mistake on my part.

3. To the anon who said 'dsmp fan' as an insult- I'm not really a fan of it. I occasionally reblog fanart that I enjoy or clips I find funny, but overall I don't know a lot about the characters or streamers. I also don't support them personally (either from twitch or personal beliefs) and never will.

4. And, for the record, insulting me for making a genuine mistake isn't a great look. I grew up in an American, conservative household and I'm still trying to shake those beliefs I grew up with and am still witness to. That's not to say that I'm shrugging off the blame to other people, because I don't and I own up to my mistakes. Insulting people for making mistakes instead of kindly pointing them out isn't a good move. If I were anyone else, I'd have not taken you anons seriously and kept going about my business. Some people get overly defensive because of that and won't listen to your words. I get being angry, since I'm also a minority (a queer mentally and physically disabled person), but from my experience, anger does very little to help. Also I'd thought I'd apologized before by saying that I'd made a mistake and saying I was wrong, but I was wrong about that too. I'm not good at apologies due to my autism. And, last note: I'm 17 years old. A minor. I'm bound to make mistakes (which I ask kindly for others to gently point out), and I'm still growing and learning. I'm still a kid. That being said, if I were any less mature, I'd have ignored you. Insults do very little, if not nothing.

With that note, I do genuinely look forward to learning more and educating myself. Learning about other cultures has, funnily enough, always been an interest of mine. I hope I can do better. :)
