MINJAE ☆
Hes not even surprised atp, he knows how smart you are
But boy does he pretend to be shocked, his hand covering his mouth as he takes in another gasp
But his other hand is hiding behind his back
You seem to notice and the only thing he can do is giggle, revealing an neatly folded box
Turns out there was a very pretty necklace inside, minjae spinning you around to put it on you, whispering in your ear how pretty you look and how proud he is ♡
JUNMIN ☆
Makes sure you do nothing for the rest of the week
So what if its monday?? He'll do anything for his precious baby since you worked so hardd
Will make your meals and clean the kitchen, your room, your study area
Even gives you a bath
And he wont stop either, that is, if you want cuddles ♡
SUMIN ☆
Sumin knew how stressed out you'd get with your exams so he prepared you a little smth!!
(And also some tissues)
Finally uncovering your eyes, you find a self portrait of yourself studying
And lemme just say how beautiful you look
The lines sketched with such care and patients, now you know why sumin had been smiling so much lately ♡
JINSIK ☆
I think this calls for pizza!! 🗣🗣‼‼
Also makes sure you do nothing. All you gotta do is just there and look pretty and that was already took no effort
Also a movie night because why not, and you've been meaning to catch up on some movies, also why not??
His arm wrapped your shoulder at all times, and will whine if you try to move around
Plus random cheek kisses, yeah, thats about it ♡
HYUNWOO ☆
Decides to buy tickets last minute and takes you to the fair!!
Lots of hand holding and pda, wiping some off the cinnamon off of your lips caused by your churros
Will attempt to get you those huge teddy bears, but sulks when he cant so you just gotta give him some kisses
Also the ferris wheel!!
Makes sure youre at the tippy top then he processed to tell you how proud his is and how special you mean to him, sealing it with a kiss ♡
JUNGHOON ☆
Yall know junghoon isnt that big on physical affection
But when he hears the news hes a changed man
His eyes shot open and his hands moving faster than his brain, picking you up and spinning you around when he gives you the biggest kiss on your cheek
Wait whaat??
Wdym he did that no he didnt stop being so delusional he didnt kiss your cheek and secretly enjoyed it but not enjoying your teasings rn shut up 🙄 ♡
SEEUN ☆
"Really?! I thought you failed!!"
His response earned him a huge punch
But hes only joking, ruffling your hair before dialing his phone, calling everyone and their mom to tell the news
Man does more than just spill the tea, he makes it from scratch
Hes overally dramatic when he tells your adventure, saying how you had to cross 7 seas just to find the right answer.. but you love him anyways 🤷‍♀️ ♡
YUJUN ☆
Hes wants to hear all about it, so spill the tea 😠😠
Another one to think you taking a test was so dramatic, having to slay a dragon just to get the right answer to a question
And boy is he listening!! (He listens to you more than minjae)
He'd be so awestruck when youre done, his jaw lefted open and hes looking at you with sparkly eyes
Hes so proud of you too :(( ♡
HUNTER ☆
Also think hes like minjae with the gift giving, pulling out this beautiful bracelet he bought months ahead of time because he knew you'd do well
But unlike minjae, he takes you out to dinner!!
Yes, a big, fancy dinner. And hes paying for it all by himself <3
Hunters prince agenda omgomg
No bc he'd drop down on his knees to kiss the back of your hand, making sure to look up at you in the process, opens every. Since. Door in sight and also pushes you into your chair. Andd he also leans against the table to wipe something off the corner of your lips, giggling to himself bc youre just so adorable. i could write a whole fic honestly... ♡
YECHAN ☆
You passed your exam? Give him a hug
You got an A?? Give him a hug
You thought you were going to fail? Frowns at you, before hugging you tightly
Spends the rest of the day giving you so much love, youre only allowed to be in his arms
And is the boy so soft??? The most gentle hes ever been ♡

Sception Reads Cass Cain #29
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin (1993) #86 writer: Ed Brubaker art: Jacob & Arnold Pander
Birds of Prey (1999) #27 writer: Chuck Dixon pencils: N. Steven Harris
Catwoman (1993) #90 writer: Bronwyn Carlton pencils: Mike Lilly
Last time we looked at Batgirls sort of stand alone tie in to the Officer Down crossover, which ended with Cass abandoning her solo detective efforts on the case to meet up with the rest of the clan. This time we see her showing up as a side character in the crossover proper, already in progress. She doesn't have too big a role in things, though, so I think it's fair to cram her remaining Officer Down appearances into a single post.
Robin 86 covers the bat crew learning about Gordon being shot and collecting at the hospital to comfort Babs and start to plan. Batman gets real grumpy about it, attacking a random thug when he first hears about Gordon, hitting Dick when he tries to hold Bruce back, and then just brooding over Gordon's unconscious body while the rest are sent out to actually catch the shooter.
Cass is there for some of that, but not really saying or doing too much, so we're mostly looking at the art. Iirc, the Pander Bros are new artists to this retrospective. So how's their Cass?
Tumblr media
Remember last time how I mentioned how depicting cass as a shadowy silhouette or trying to convey how she moves was more effective at making her spooky and intimidating than emphasizing the stitches in her mask or just giving her an angry face or whatever? This is the kind of stuff I was talking about there. Not enough to have stitches over the mouth, the Panders make her entire suit stitched together, like Catwoman in Batman Returns. They also drop her chunky yellow utility belt - and frequently also the yellow bat-symbol on her chest, though that might be a colorist issue.
I don't think they do a bad job exactly, apart from their super angular cartoony style not really clicking with me, but that's an aesthetic preference, not a judgment on quality. But the lack of facial expression in their Cass really hurts here.
Tumblr media
I mean, at least there's some body language & physicality put into comforting Babs here, and it's nice that Babs looks to Cass in this one panel/moment here.
Tumblr media
And I also like this bit, where Cass is the first to notice that Bruce is already in the room with Jim.
...
So Catwoman was seen at the scene where Gordon was shot, and they were feuding recently, so she's the prime suspect even if gun murder isn't really her style. The bat crew, minus Bruce, try to track her down, eventually leading to them interrupting a museum heist, but it turns out to be Harley Quinn running interference for Selina.
I like N. Steven Harris's general style more than the Panders, but he makes some weird decisions with Cass.
Tumblr media
Combat Heels? Really?
Tumblr media
This is a writing thing, so more on Dixon than Harris again, but...
has the memo not yet gotten around that Cass can talk now? She could just ask 'where is Catwoman'?
are we supposed to believe she can write the word 'woman' but not the word 'cat'? The cat part she has to draw?
This is kind of silly and ridiculous.
Tumblr media
Mostly she's just kind of standing around in group shots in this one, and she looks fine.
Tumblr media
The only real character beat Cass gets in this one is this extra and unnecessary kick at Harley Quinn at the end. Kind of mean spirited, which doesn't exactly fit Cass's usual character, but she's frustrated and her friend is hurting so I can't exactly say lashing out like this is exactly out of character either.
...
The last issue with Harley Quinn was mostly just spinning wheels to spread the crossover to one more title, Catwoman 90 actually advances the plot with the crew tracking Selina down, capturing her, and getting her version of the story - that another cop shot the commissioner.
Is Mike Lilly also a new artist for Cass? 3 for 3 new artists this week? I probably like his version of Batgirl the best out of the three today, but it does suffer noticeably from 'only knows how to draw one body type for female characters' syndrome.
Tumblr media
It's a cute line I guess, but Selina has met Cass before. They had a whole little side adventure.
That's-not-Cass body measurements aside, Lilly does a great job of portraying just how athletic and acrobatic Cass is in just a few panels, how overwhelming her skill is in a physical confrontation. Selina pretty easily slipped past Dick, Tim, and Jean-Paul before this, but she just can't shake Cass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later on Cass is also the one who retrieves the shooter's gun from the vent Selina stowed it in:
Tumblr media
Nice to see her and Jean-Paul working together in a nod to some of the No Man's Land stuff.
....
Overall three new artistic takes on Cass-Batgirl, and while I have my gripes about each none of them are bad exactly. It's nice that she's here for the crossover event, not left out entirely, and the writing teams remember enough of her character that she's making a show of consoling Barbara, or just naturally teaming up with Jean-Paul. It's also nice that she's treated as the most physically adept member of the bat team.
On the other hand, I'm not sure word has gotten around that she can talk now? The whole point of making her able to talk was so that she didn't fall into the vaguely racial trope of the silent faceless ninja, but that's still very much the role she's filling here.
I'd also mentioned earlier in discussing No Man's Land and more broadly the characterization of Bruce at the time kind of fell into a recurring rut. Something bad would happen that would remind Bruce of how little control he really had over the random injustice of the world, something that would put him back in the headspace of that little boy watching his parents murdered in front of him, and in response he would emotionally seize up and push his surrogate family away, only to later re-(re-re-re-)learn that he can't just do everything on his own and isolating himself only makes things worse and found family is good and he needs to rely on his friends, etc etc.
Officer Down is the start of another of these cycles, and while Gordon survives his injuries, he does retire. And Bruce's behavior towards the others while he's afraid Gordon will die is obnoxious enough that Alfred quits? To teach him a lesson by isolating him? Seems suspect, but whatever. Bruce just in general gets more grumpy and obnoxious for a while in a way that feels pretty repetitive with No Mans Land, a rut that continues to repeat going forward well after the writers seem to have tired of it.
And as a Cass fan it's kind of frustrating, because, again, her entire character concept was designed in dialog with exactly this version of Bruce, and the arc that it felt at the time she was building towards would have given the writers a natural way to write Bruce out of this rut.
It sort of writes itself - something happends that forces Bruce to acknowledge Cass's murder - maybe she finally breaks down and confesses it to him directly. He doesn't take it well, it leads to conflict between them, expanding out into conflict with the rest of the team. Eventually this conflict forces Bruce and Cass to confront and overcome their internalized guilt issues together, probably while physically fighting each other. The resolution of this forces Bruce to acknowledge that it's unprocessed guilt - not anger - that's been driving him to push everyone away. In offering Cass the forgiveness she needs he also learns to forgive himself, and comes out of the whole thing as more mellow and better-socially-adjusted batman, one who at the very least turns to his found family in a crisis instead of always reflexively pushing them away.
Bits and pieces of this narrative show up here and there going forward, but the whole arc never really coalesces. And while eventually there was a shift to a less grumpy and self-isolating Batman, I don't remember any particular catharsis bringing him to that point - though to be fair I wouldn't have seen it if it didn't involve Cass, so *shrug*.

hey if you can i was wondering if you had some bl/gl/general manga recs for a particular kind of tonal vibe, given your like. expertise. ok so there's this manga by nemui asada i reread every so often called my little inferno and i really like it but the problem is the beginning is p much unreadable because she throws sa in there for no reason? esp since the sa is so disjointed from the rest of it which is fun and fairly normal beyond that. i wanna read something like it with the same tone but without the sa and longer if i can help it. i liked that it was a situation that was like Off and arguably fucked up but weirdly functional/mutually fulfilling without veering too far into the domestic but finding something like it has been harder than expected
yea lmao I really like asada nemui’s writing but sometimes it’s a little much. for kinda fucky vibes that don’t lean into assault, what immediately springs to mind is Tokyo Hikari Auction which is in progress, kind of similar dynamic with one person being more reluctant and wanting to drive the other person away and the other person Just Parking Here. the setting is… well I don’t get the logistics but it’s a black market auction that the main character runs and the love interest tries to sell himself on.
this isn’t the same tone but it’s the same kind of… weirdly functional relationship with dysfunctional characters, ‘Kiraware Joushi to Perfect Buka’ is a one volume manga about a rancid boss and his younger subordinate that’s infatuated with him. the state of the scans are kind of strange but they’re floating around
this one’s a oneshot, ‘Just when I thought I came here to die’ is really fun horror romcom vibes where it’s kind of off in that the love interest does in fact kill some random people that show up, and the main character starts out terrified of the love interest
actually, I think limo has really similar writing to asada nemui, in that it can get really intense and fucked up and sometimes probably too far for a lot of people. but check out chapter 2 of ‘Soine Lovers’ for something more lighthearted, it’s about a guy with a lot of debt being hassled by his rich classmate who he hasn’t seen in like 10 years. and don’t check out anything else unless you want to spin a roulette wheel of content warnings.
‘Kobamanai Otoko’… well it’s more on the manipulation side of fucky relationships but I’d say give it a go
‘A Declaration of Revenge’. lol. lmao. I hope they break up for real. extremely good weird rancid vibes. I am ignoring all of the police politics tho.
‘Never Good Enough’. has a college student/teacher relationship so depends how much that’ll put you off but I actually thought it was interesting how the writer kind of deconstructs the… framework of the love interest being obsessive and presented as unstable by others?
there’s your starter lemme know if any of em stick. oh wait I just realized you didn’t specifically ask for only bl hang on I got a couple of GL
‘Black and White: Tough Love at the Office’ has office ladies that just beat the shit out of each other and start making out lol
‘"The Villainess" and the Woman Who Would Do Anything for the Sake of Love’ it’s time prison deathloop and the main character gets kind of nuts about it. Might skew too far into the fucky relationship side of things, it does have confinement…?
Hm. Hmmm. ‘Qualia the purple’. not necessarily off and rancid, but I think the intensity somewhat matches. Look up content warnings tho. Okay now I’m done that was more than I thought I’d dig up and I’m off to do something else

heyyo :>
i've been a reading your works for a while and I've been curious on the process on how you write since I find the way you write very pleasing ! I'm curious on the steps you take once you get like an idea or start working on a request since this and trying to make up so much just from a prompt are the things i struggle a lot with when i try to write— & vvv quickly wanted to ask if you'd ever put your works up on ao3 ? thank you & wish you the bestest !
Hello, fellow writer!
Thank you! People say that sometimes, and it never fails to make me confused. I suppose the reader sees things that the writer cannot...
As you mentioned already, the first step is the idea, or the prompt. In the early days I just used Spin The Wheel for writing suggestions, but nowadays there's no shortage of ideas in my inbox.
So you could say that the idea isn't a problem, right? Wrong.
Not every one is the same. The key point in picking the right ask/idea is making it into a readable, interesting fic. In that sense, not every prompt is doable. Aside from the obvious ones that include things I don't write for, here are a few examples.
Too specific/complicated. Some asks include specific details that are hard to fit into the story as I see it, or limit the writing freedom. There are also the ones that basically are whole fics in themselves. *cough*Shrine Incident*cough*
Repetitive, and I don't mean the ask itself. Writing the exact same scenario over and over, but with different characters would lead to monotony on the blog, and very noticable shortage of unique content. Say, a wedding ceremony for every female character I write for. It would get really repetitive really fast, as most would just follow their culture's traditions with slight differences. Forcing every single one to be unique would be silly and OOC.
This may be a little harsh, but some are uninteresting. They are very rare, but they happen. Things like "their reaction to reader tripping on a shoelace" or "their reaction to getting a gift" would not amount to much readable content, as the reactions would be very limited in variety or straight up identical. Splitting the hairs would be annoying to write and boring to read.
The best ideas are those that are general, leaving much freedom for the writer, but still draw a rough framework to work within.
Now that I have the idea, I need to think it over (as every writer does). It usually takes plenty of time since I want to get solid ideas, not just any random thoughts. Not all ideas are workable into a readable fic as well. It takes longer for pure headcanons since those consist entirely of ideas. The general thought process for the more story-driven fics is something like "I want this to happen" or "I want to include this". Before I get to writing the post down, I already have a general, ordered plot line - it's only a matter of putting it into words and filling the gaps to connect the most important bits. The planning happens during my day - it comes naturally to me. Never once have I sat down and decided to think exclusively about a fic before making it.
There is also the research phase of my writing. Not all fics need research, but if they do, I won't shy away from it. I learned a lot about sepsis from an actual doctor when I was writing the old Fatui!Reader fic with Yelan, I read A LOT, and I mean A LOT about pregnancy for the fluff headcanons to make sure everything is realistic, making sure that X existed in medieval/reinessance times (it is very hard to decide if I should include it sometimes because Genshin's world is like a game of Sid Meier's Civilisation when it comes to technology), I watched a lot of pole dancing tutorials before writing the triple Sumeru smut to get a good reference point... speaking of smut, there is a lot of research going on there.
Why? Because I want to make smut hot. That is the ultimate objective, and sadly my nsfw imagination isn't that good. It has been getting better with the amount of smut I made so far, but it isn't as good as that of some authors. I also want to make sure things look and act as they would in reality. The realism, or making things believable, is one of my main objectives. That is also why smut takes the second spot for the longest writing time - I always want to make sure that things are in order and of as high quality as I can make them. Sadly, smut rarely has any comments. I know why, I understand why, but it does leave me guessing if it was really any good more often than not.
The final part of planning is choosing a format, and sometimes it is kind of hard to do. There are the obvious picks, but sometimes the request is vague enough, and the idea could work in all three - the bulleted headcanons, the mixed headcanons, and the narrative. There are a bunch of miscellany formats too, but I seldom use them.
When the planning is done, the writing part begins. It is rarely done in one sitting, since sometimes I get stuck on specific (usually liminal) points. The longer I am, the more frustrated and tired I get (the extensive planning itself is mentally exhausting, believe it or not), and I never want to write when exhausted. That said, there are some fics that I wrote like this, and people seemed to pay no mind. But still - I want to make sure I am thinking straight while putting my ideas into words. It is sort of a given, I know.
Sometimes I also pass the fic to my beta reader, but it's complicated. Then it's publishing time.
My advice here is to take frequent breaks. If you're barely keeping your eyes open, if you have a headache, if you want to throw your phone/pc/notebook through the nearest window, stop. Take a break, come back when you feel like it. (I'm assuming you write something like fanfiction) Do remember that fanfics are more about the vibe and ideas than real literary substance. If there's no willingness or passion when you write them, they may come out bland and forced. Personally, I focus on all three, but I would advise anyone to do otherwise. It's oftentimes a lot to think through, a lot to plan, and it occasionally gets frustrating.
Unless we're talking serious fanfiction, which in my writing is the Necro AU. Double everything I wrote here and you will get how much thought goes into the AU. Yeah.
As for making fics out of prompts. It depends heavily on the kind of prompt, the kind of fiction, the topic of the prompt, the characters involved and so on and so forth. Sometimes the prompt works with the character, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it gives you too little to work with, sometimes it gives you too much. I find that the ideas come to me themselves, but sometimes getting a bit of inspiration goes a long way. For example, when I was writing the smut and fluff headcanons for respectively Candace + Nilou and Candace, I went to an archeology exhibition regarding Tutankhamun's tomb. Yes, it was in my plans for a long time and yes, I used the ask as an excuse to finally go there, but it made writing that fun nevertheless. Sometimes you just need the right mood to get the ideas flowing.
I hope you find all of what I said coherent, and maybe even helpful to some degree. All of it is just my take on the matter, subjective, based in my own experiences and so on.
If you want to ask something more specific, or if you want me to help you with something, you can always DM me - I would be more than happy to help :3
EDIT: I'll post a select few of the more suitable fics on AO3, as well as Mortuarius. I was told that AO3 folk like AUs more than people do here on Tumblr.

friends were discussing the possibilities of the omegaverse if everyone didnt focus on the sex. i am just the messenger
"Two homosexuals dive into the convoluted trope that is the Omegaverse. Cutting through the thicket of breeding kinks and weird oviposition things (despite being mammals), the curious scientists delve into the scientific curiosities of the 2nd gender. 1 other homosexual documents everything" Chat is the omegaverse problematic
Because i saw "omegaverse supporters dni" in someone's byf
i mean, how some authors write is very very close to some things men say abt women
Yeah thats fair
i think it could be cool but the wolf thing reminds me of twilight and i don't like the fact that omegas are written that way
Tbf the way some writers write things are ???
"He is my alpha and i am his omega" please stop
i think it could be cool but the wolf thing reminds me of twilight and i don't like the fact that omegas are written that way
also why's there only 3 genders? if you're going to use the greek alphabet use them all
Right??
Make our own omegaverse and reqrite everythinf fr
lmfao sigma gender characteristics: really fuckin annoying that's all
omegaverse but since everyone thinks there's only 3 genders, anyone who presented as anything but the 3 known genders are deemed as "probably just quirky betas" since no one gaf abt betas
someonr presents as a zeta but is deemed as a beta, you know
wrong diagnoses!!!
Yeah that makes sense
i wonder what characteristics the rest of the genders eould have
i'm guessing they probably don't? need/have heats or ruts since they're passed on as betas but idk
what other biological characteristics are there
scent?? does pi smell like chalk??????
Would there be things in the omegaverse similar to pcos that affect the characteristics of the gender or smth
i mean probably
both 2nd gender pcos and 1st gender pcos
can you transition? how would that work? 2nd gender hrt?????
Probably???
both 2nd gender pcos and 1st gender pcos
The nightmare the omegaverse civilians would go thru
scent?? does pi smell like chalk??????
gamma probably smells likr metallic
Since omegaverse rankings r referred to as genders
And to some extent are chemical based, theoretically you could transition to another 2nd gender
scientists trying to figure out the hierachy after finding out there's 21 morr genders they didn't know about:
but i'm guessing that sincr it's traditionally
Alpha Beta Omega
i'd guess it just goes greek alphabet order too?
How do people even get their 2nd gender actually, like, are they inherited from a parent or a lineage, are they chemical in the same vein as actual biological sexes, or are they just random??
are there chromosomes in the 2nd gender Who knows
How do people even get their 2nd gender actually, like, are they inherit…
Like, if an omega and omega get together will their child also be an omega?? Will there be chemical changes that allow the possibility of it turning into a gamma, delta, or alpha?? Or is there some baby making spin the wheel that decides the child's 2nd gender
Chromosomes dont seem fo affect what 2nd gender the child attains since men can be omegas and women can be alphas i sippose
new project : rewritr the entirety of omegaverse
transgender omegaverse you fuckers could post this shit on tumblr

I like a lot of Johns earlier works, including his GL run, but something has changed about his writing since the end of Forever Evil or so.
I guess it really feels like he's trying to write something big and meaningful, but he's focusing on that over telling a good story. Everything has to be connected and there have to be these cryptic call backs and call forwards and reveals that feel like a major departure from his normal style. It just seems like he's trying to copy Moore (and possibly Morrison) and that would be fine, all writers copy others, if he put his own spin on it, but he doesn't do that.
Trying to strip mine Watchmen for parts is very tired and creatively bankrupt in general and Johns has been doing that a lot, always without actually changing anything in any way that matters. What is he adding to the story that improves our develops it? Nothing, he's just using it for generic superhero melodrama. Most of DC's characters are stuck in that squirrel wheel of meaningless drama, usually with the occasional "deeper" story in there, but Watchmen managed to stay out of that and actually tell one concrete, poignant story and every attempt at building off of that has failed.
Today's JSA also feels pretty cheap in general. Generic "oh a future team is killed off to show how serious we are" opening, the team in question not actually seeming like they should exist to begin with, random Batcharacter escapes to go be the main character, weirdly OP villain who's never been seen before... It all feels very familiar in a very boring sort of way.
Actually, the batcharacter thing is a weird development too. Johns used to be chief officer of the fuck Batman club, which resulted in very cathartic moments like the GLs repeatedly tellingj him to fuck off. I'm petty, but Batman is annoying and a Mary sue so those moments are nice. But since Flashpoint we've seen less and less of that from Johns and more and more of the same Batman worship as everyone else is always spewing. He knows better, he's the main character, everything is centred around him.
It's probably just a change of opinion, but it contributes to my dislike of Johns modern books.
But overall I'd say the issue is that he's gone from writing quite straight forward books, that still managed to develop the universe, to trying and failing to be Alan Moore.

TMI Tuesday
Happy Tuesday!
Late, late, late today, but finally here. Been writing, still hitting those daily goals. Tomorrow is a TWD (not The Walking Dead, though it may as well be - teacher work day), so I can stay up late today... if I can stay awake that is. It’s already past my bed time.
I finished Disparate Pathways. That’s a really strange feeling.  Relief and sorrow both at the same time.  It’s not all edited or posted though so... I’ll see it again for a while.
Since no one wrote me which fic they’d like to see me write next (as folks were invited to do), I had to choose one myself, so I’m now working on Time’s Curse, another book AU.
So... hit me up with some questions about those fics or any others you might want to know about... anything you want to know.
Here are some other suggestions for you…
Ask suggestions
Ask something about any of my fics (full list is below the cut). If you want specifics from some fics that are already outlined, you can ask about:
Disparate Pathways, Chapters 46 through 56 All Our Past Mistakes, Chapters 11 through 44 Lover’s Leap Series, Stories 15 through 31 Time’s Curse, Chapters 4 through 10 Laer o Faen, Chapter 27 & 28 Stargate: Atlantis, Harms Way or any of the 20 fics in the series.
Ask something of any of my characters in general or you can get really specific if you like - for example you might want to ask Gold from Pawn Shop a question about a chapter, a thought, a feeling… (the world is your oyster really)
Ask about my process as a writer, what makes me tick,, or even ask about me personally. Almost nothing is off limits.
Also, if you want to see a specific character or fic featured in Three Things Thursday, or Saturday Secret, feel free to send in prompts, if no one does, then either the choice will be random or they just won’t happen at all. I made an analogy for why that might be in a different post about a car stuck in the mud with spinning wheels. Those wheels are still spinning!
Please remember: if you read a fic you enjoyed on AO3 or on Tumblr (not just mine), please take the time to comment and/or leave kudos, and to reach out on TMI Tuesday. It means a lot to the writers and artists.
You can find all my fics currently on AO3 here, and there is a full list under this cut.

Aesthetic for Liv
The endless spin of a pottery wheel, paint splatters in random corners, canvases tightly stretched, teeth grinding and cheek bites, smiles that rarely reach the eyes, steady hands, shoes for every season strewn across the floor, dressing up because everything's an event if you make it so
General Summary
The family scapegoat. The middle child in a brood of three. She took the fall for her older sister and struggled through her late teens and early twenties. She's managed to make a life for herself, but it wasn't without struggle and sacrifice.
Full Biography
TW: child abuse, domestic violence, family scapegoating, death
Like most stories we have to start at the beginning, well before Liv's birth, with Gina Lee and James Kim. Gina and James met just outside Dyess Air Fore Base. At the time, Gina was fresh out of high school and James was barely twenty years old. They were both young and they connected almost instantly, or so they thought.
Their marriage came quick, almost within months after meeting, because Gina fell pregnant with their first daughter, Alison. Raising a child, especially with a virtual stranger, was not an easy feat. They started to fracture early. After two years, Gina managed to gather up the nerve to leave. Then, the second pink plus sign came.
Allie and Liv witnessed many things over the next five years. Their mother, the woman who should have loved them unconditionally, began to view them as baggage. They were the source of her unhappiness, and as they aged, competition. They could become everything Gina never got to be and that enraged her.
Although, Gina was unhappily married to James, having two children and being divorced all before the age of 30 was never in her life plan. By the time Liv was five and Allie was seven, Gina and James divorced. Their mother quickly remarried. While she held very little affection towards her daughters, Gina manipulated Hames into signing over his parental rights. Their stepfather, unlike James, was very meek and mild and suited their mother's mood swings.
Liv's younger brother was the baby Gina always wanted. Liv and Allie, still blamed for their mother's rage and unhappiness, watched as Gina lovingly cradled her baby boy. From there the dynamics began to shift. Eugene, the baby, was the golden child. Allie the forgotten child. Liv the scapegoat.
It didn't matter what happened or how it happened. Most bad things fell on Liv. As such, Gina believed she needed to be punished. For most of Liv's preteen and teenage years, she experienced a cycle of emotional, mental, and physical abuse. Most children try harder to earn the love and care of a parent who would never give them those things -- but not Liv. Liv began to view life as a test of endurance. While she did her best to stay out of trouble, she stopped asking for answers, she stopped trying to figure out what she did wrong. Instead, she looked and her siblings, and figured it was better her than them.
She was wrong, though. At seventeen, Gina kicked Liv out of her childhood home with nothing but the clothes on her back and whatever was in her wallet. With about fifty dollars and a driver's license, Liv managed to get a bus ticket to the nearest small town.
Despite only seeing her grandma a few times a year, it was almost as if Grandma Lee was expecting Liv. At least, that was the way it felt as her grandmother lovingly led her to her room and told her she could do anything she wanted except paint the walls black.
Under Grandma Lee's care, Liv graduated high school. Despite wanting to eventually attend college, her cumulative GPA held her back. So, for awhile, Liv bartended.
Then, her loving grandmother passed away. It hurt to have to bury one of the only loving adult women in her life, but Grandma Lee insisted that those last years were some of her happiest. As her dying wish, she insisted Liv sell the house to finally have enough to pay for her ceramic studio. So, Liv did just so and took all of that love and put it into the community's pottery studio and in her friends and lovers. Some of those lovers deserved her and others did not.
Over the years, Liv managed to get back in touch with her brother and sister. While the three rarely spoke about their mother and stepfather, they managed to carve out a decent relationship.

hate hate HATE the idea of sex scenes being superfluous and unimportant.
Sex scenes can:
Be for titillation (yes this is ok!)
Be a plot point
Show intimacy between 2+ characters
Be used as part of a character study
Be any other reason you can think of
Just because you don’t like sex scenes doesn’t mean they aren’t there for a reason (even just for titillation).
Sex scenes do not make a work less literary or automatically genre fiction. They do not make a work have “less meaning” automatically either.
Let people write what they want to write in peace.

I've been obsessed about monsters with a gargoyle type of anatomy. With beautiful large wings and they twitch and flutter during pleasure
100% yes to wings. I know you said gargoyle like anatomy but like... if you think about it, gargoyles are pretty romantic (or maybe i’m weird idk) Also does anyone else remember that TV show Gargoyles from Disney?? I can blame half the reasons why I'm like this on kids shows ngl
Also idk if you were expecting wing kink but here we go~
Gargoyles
Rating: T Tags: Wing play, sensuality, lore building
Gargoyles may look intimidating, but in reality such is not the case. They are protectors of the home, old warriors, and vigilant beasts who stalk the night.
During the day, their skin hardens to rock as the sunlight graces their powerful shoulders, where wings sprout from their back. The deep slumber is required to maintain their nightly activities and energy.
But as the sun falls from the sky, and night reigns the firmament, they come alive as moonlight washes across their forms. Their bodies rise, their flesh cracking from the daily disuse. As they shed their daytime sleepiness, the battle beings.
Gargoyles are fiercely loyal creatures. They have an innate sense of intuition and the uncanny ability to read the intentions of others. Those who wish to undue harm upon the home best beware. A gargoyle’s tough hide keeps them protected from both magic and blade. Their stone flesh hinders metal strikes. Powerful magic glances off their sculpted physique, leaving naught a mark behind.
A home is not just a place, however. Home can be found in others as well. And if a gargoyle chooses you as a home, they will spend all of their immortal life protecting your form. Even after death, it is not uncommon to see a gargoyle hunched over a grave, protecting their person, their livelihood, their hearth, until the end of time. Even after bones become dust.
Many see these creatures as terrifying. And in the midst of battle to protect those who they deem important, it is understandable. Gargoyles need no magic. Nor do they need weapons other than their powerful wings, tough claws, and fangs.
A gargoyles’ wings are yet another powerful tool of their disposal. As gargoyles are heavy, stone-like creatures, their wings need to be equally powerful and large to lift their bodies into the air. A gargoyle does not have organs as humans do, as they are made of stone. And although their skin is tough and impervious to most things, their insides are hollow and full of their own inner magic.
It is a myth that gargoyles cannot feel touch. They can sense the warmth of a coming dawn, the cool breeze of night, and those who dust tender fingers across their spine. As most gargoyles usually only feel the lacerations of battle, a more delicate touch is usually quite foreign to most.
Although made of stone, all gargoyles have softer spots of their body, akin to pressure points in that of a human. This is especially true around the base of their wings. The base of the wing is the most delicate part of a gargoyle and most avoid allowing enemies to get purchase or even others to touch them.
But, for someone who has befriended a gargoyle, and who has gained a gargoyle’s full trust, touching the wings is a rare gift.
When touching the base of their powerful wings, the stone is more brittle. Softer. Almost like limestone. It is often cold due to outside temperatures. The gentle dusting of a few fingers will often lead to a small, full-body shudder. The wings, usually still, lower and open wider, allowing further access to those the gargoyle trusts. A slightly stronger press, akin to the kneading of a cat, lends to further reactions. When the uncertainty and strangeness subsides, a new desire burns.
Gargoyles often show their emotions with their tail. While a quickly lashing tail may denote rage, flicks of the tip often point towards pleasure.
Some gargoyles have more sensitivities in the wings than others. For those who are extra sensitive, all it takes is a long stroke down the forelimb of the wing, from the joint of the spine toward the first finger of the wing, to induce utter wanton. A gargoyle may open their wings full to the sensation, bowing their head down and curling their limbs beneath their rock-hard bodies in a show of absolute trust and adoration.
Most who gaze upon the gargoyle do not see a creature of elegance and resignation. But those who can are graced with a sight like no other. Wings powerful enough to snap metal tremble beneath soft, fleshy fingers. The guttural moans of a gargoyle sound similar to that of crumbling stone. Their glowing, pupil-less eyes somehow roll to the back of their skull from the bliss of such machinations.
For the truly lucky and adored, such attention and care may lead to a gargoyle wrapping their powerful, stone wings around you. Although their flesh may be rough, their touch and passion are not.

I was wondering if you would be willing to share the titles of your resilience-inspiring lesbian farm books? My google search led me to a book titled “Attack of the Lesbian Farmers” which, while certainly inspiring, is not exactly what I was looking for.
Here are two very different books in the Farm Lesbians Write Honestly About What Went Wrong And How They Got Through It genre. Hopefully at least one is to your taste.
It's nearly fifty years old now, and can be hard to find, but Country Women: A Handbook for the New Farmer is deeply important to me. Country Women was a black and white xeroxed magazine written by a collective of woman-run farms in California in the 1960s. (There are some issues scanned at the Lesbian Poetry Archive). Each issue was half articles about feminism and half articles about small-scale farming. In the 1970s, the how-to articles on farming were expanded and organized to make the book, along with some scattered journal entries, lovely hippie-style line drawings and poetry about wood splitting, bees, and gazing at one's beloved while fixing the tractor on a summer day. The contributors have names like Jean and Ruth Mountaingrove, Ellen Chanterelle, and Sam♀ Thomas.
It's written in an informal and pragmatic style, mostly organic hippie farming, but using pesticides or conventional medications when necessary.
This afternoon the Anderson brothers began teaching me how to graft fruit trees - the careful joining of life with life. Even more than I loved gaining a new skill, I loved learning from two old men who have so very much to teach me. I admire the audacity of eighty-three-year-old men setting grafts that will not bear fruit for years: the total involvement in a process they love. Those trees will stand and live; I doubt whether Jake or Fred even stop to wonder if they'll pick the fruit. I want to live my life with that kind of harmony and purpose. I want to be planting seeds the day I die.

The first lamb was born today. Premature and dead. Olivia, the mother, seems to be all right though. I had a dream a few weeks ago that the lambs were born tiny (like mice) and pink. And that I struggled to save them, but they were too small to feed. The lamb today was small and pink, its fleece plastered against its body, thin and sparse. For a moment it was nightmareishly like my dream... This is my first animal death. The beginning of a long cycle. It seems even harder to have death come before life, than to have an old one die giving birth. Hopes for the future stillborn.

Driving home today, I suddenly realized that this really is going to be a sheep ranch, that I have done, and am doing, and will do it. That I'm making my livelihood from the land. The canyon is fenced now. There are  sheep out there on pastures that were open hillsides two years ago.
The very act of building this place, the simple actions of tamping dirt, stretching wire, dumping hay in feeders, has profoundly changed my sense of self. I'm doing things I never dreamed I could do, and I'm doing them easily without even considering whether I really can. Last night I was talking with Susan about fencing the front meadow for feeder calves, and I realized that I could say that realistically, no fantasizing, no bragging: I can fence the front meadow as soon as I get done with the hay barn and get a little more money.
Like almost every other farmer in America today, I'm in debt and hoping for a good season. I'm only at the beginning now, and I know there are many struggles to come and overcome and come again: Someday I too, like my neighbours, will be counting carcasses killed by a marauding dog or watching the spring oats be wash away in an "unheard of" late storm. No matter how prepared I am, there us always that vulnerability - to the weather, other animals, disease - that seems to strike when things are finally going smoothly. But inside me there is also this incredible joy: This life is real and good, and it has made me strong and real and good too.
Tumblr media
I gotta stop or I'll type the whole book into this post. One more:
My father is here this week ... working on the truck whose engine has been alien to me. I am learning now what I could have learned at 7, 11, 15. Beneath my truck, side by side, lie his seven-year-old son and his twenty-five-year-old daughter, both of us learning for the first time how bearings fit together, how to remove pistons. And here beneath this truck the patriarchy stops: he has passed his knowledge to his daughter, and from me  it will pass to sisters, from sister to sister to sister.
That's this book. The things women weren't supposed to know in the sixties. They found people to teach them; they taught each other; they learned through bitter loss. The book says: we have gone before you and you are not alone. Here is what we have learned, and here is how we have learned it. We have failed, and we have wept, and we have gotten up and gone on, and it was alright. Here is the fire, passed from hand to hand to hand. Here is the light that will never be put out.
The week after we first got goats, we received a package in the mail from my coolest relative, a veterinarian who was the first woman to graduate with a specialization in large animal medicine at her school. People thought that women just weren't physically capable of handling large animals. (Hint: the bull weights 1100 kilograms. It doesn't much matter if the veterinarian weighs 50 kilograms or 150 kilograms.) I remember staying with her a child, in summer, laying on the stainless steel operating table in the barn; it always felt cool when the heat was unbearable.
The package, of course, contained Country Women. An old well-loved copy, with notes on long-ago calving dates penciled in the margins, and random scraps of paper with sketches of possible gardens and goat sheds as bookmarks.  A light passed from hand to hand, a light that will not go out. It was like receiving a video game quest artifact.
Tumblr media
Country Women is rooted in second wave feminism, which is not everyone's cup of tea. For something more modern and story-focussed, consider Hit By A Farm or Sheepish by Catherine Friend. These are collections of short, funny autobiographical essays about farming and relationships. Their tone is honest and wry, self-deprecating. You can see Catherine Friend's blog here and decide if you like her writing style. She wanted to call Hit By A Farm "Sheep Sex and Other Disasters" but her editor didn't think it would sell.
In Hit By A Farm, Catherine - a professional writer - goes along with her partner Melissa's lifelong desire to ranch sheep, and describes the results from the perspective of the slightly reluctant farmer's wife as they start a farm in Minnesota.  Sheepish is written fifteen years later, when they're thinking about quitting the farm, after all the shiny newness of farming and the relationship has worn off. There are different mistakes then, different sorrows, and new joys.
From Sheepish:
We rarely pay attention to middles. Perhaps we ignore them because they're problematic. The middles of our beds often sag. The middles of our bodies sag. The middle of a long story told by your brother-in-law is likely to sag, and so you'll need another beer to stay focused. Everyone needs a reason to keep going when they're in the middle.
And:
Don't expect a farm to fix your life, for once the romance dims, you must still muck out the barn and stack hay bales and give that sick goat an enema...Although there are tons of stories about starting something new, there just aren't that many about how to keep doing something, about how to slog through the middle when the going gets tough.
The quotes are all from Sheepish; I can't find our copy of Hit By A Farm:
My spinning wheel continues to torture and confound me. I realize I'm not interested enough in the craft to really commit to learning it. After a few more tries, I tuck the wheel into a corner of our living room and turn it into what Melissa likes to call a Dust Accumulation Research Project. Clearly our wool market will continue to be the wildly unlucrative wholesale warehouse.
The patron saint of spinners is, interestingly enough, Saint Catherine. She was a Christian martyr in Alexandria. In 307 AD, she was condemned to be torn apart by the spokes of the wheel.
Well. No wonder.
Spoiler: things get pretty rough, there’s illness and hard winters and financial issues, but they do not, in fact, give up the farm or each other.
The book says: We made it. You will too.

And other question: “Tell us a little bit about yourself”. It's always interesting to know more about your favorite author) Thanks a lot🖤
First of all, thank you!  Being one of someone’s favorite authors is a huge compliment and very humbling.  I appreciate your interest in both me and my stories!
To start (*avoids eye contact* *lowers voice*), I’m American.  I know we all look like lunatics right now, but I swear, I’m normal.  I live in the Pacific Northwest.  I’ve spent most of my life paying tuition and sitting in lecture halls.  After nine years of school, I finally graduated with my terminal degree.  Now I’m an oncology pharmacist who works for a healthcare system with inpatient services and several ambulatory clinics.  I work with brilliant people.  I love my coworkers.  I’ve finally been able to travel the world and see the amazing sites I only dreamed about growing up and in school.  I have a cat, dog, and husband.
When it comes to writing, I’ve written stories for as long as I can remember.  When I learned how to spell “Hi,” I wrote a story with crayon animals saying “hi” to each other on each page.  I kept a wad of notebook-page stories in my nightstand from first grade through high school.  I never planned to be a professional writer, since that wasn’t a “responsible” career route.  Instead I went into science and medicine.  Throughout my years at the university, my writing became less and less, and by the time I entered graduate school, I had put it away completely.
It probably would have stayed that way if I hadn’t become disillusioned with my career.  I was always the A+ student.  It was part of my identity.  When I graduated, I assumed my career would be this grand thing.  I’d be valued for what I brought to the organization.  I’d go above and beyond, and it would matter in some small way.  As it turned out, medicine is very corporate.
I became a cog in the wheel.  I got tired of management telling my team, “Go ahead and quit.  It’s easier for us to replace you, than it is for you to find a new job.”  The whole “Get off the bus if you don’t like it” mantra was something I heard at least every other week, not necessarily said directly to me as an individual, but to my coworkers as a group.  I saw how other exceptional employees were treated.  I saw how my efforts never went anywhere.  I had no individual worth to management or administration.  If I was so replaceable then even the higher calling of patient care didn’t really matter.  If whether it was me or some random person off the street sitting in that seat, it didn’t make a difference to administration, then my individual contribution to patient care was obviously generic and relatively insignificant.
I was inhibited improving programs or providing education, advancing anything, problem solving for efficiency, and all my extra work either got me in trouble in some weird round-about way or simply was wasted effort.  For instance, I was really excited about developing a dose-rounding policy for the outpatient clinic.  I had read recent guidelines issued by NCCN/HOPA.  I talked to my boss.  She patted me on the head and said sure.  I drafted a policy, complied sources, worked hard on documents and presentation material for the physicians.  Then it emailed it to my boss.  Month after month, I’d ask her, “Have you brought that to the doctors?”  Month after month, she’d forget.  Finally, I stopped asking.  A year and half later, one of the doctors brought up dosing rounding in a meeting.  My boss didn’t even remember I’d worked on it.  She told the MD it was such a good idea and assigned one of my coworkers to work on it and create a policy to present.  Going above and beyond only lead to frustration and hurt.
To me, what mattered was getting the job done well and having a harmonious, good working relationship with co-workers.  That’s not what mattered to my boss.  I got tired of being told I was a good clinician, but I didn’t smile enough.  I got in trouble if I didn’t come to her office to “hi” to her in the morning.  She was put out I hadn’t told her my grandma died but told a coworker.  How I did my job clinically didn’t matter.
I discovered administration just wanted someone to clock in, clock out, do the factory conveyer-type work of daily duties and do nothing else.  I not only couldn’t share an opinion, I had to not have one at all.  I could leave, but staying near my family was important. I stayed, but I realized: my career had to be a job.  It couldn’t be a part of my identity.  I would never feel accomplished or have a sense of individual worth or achievement from my paycheck job.
That’s when I turned back to writing.  I tried a few original novels that went nowhere.  After playing ME, I lacked closure and wrote an ending for myself.  It turned into 300 k words, and my sister encouraged me to try posting it on a website.  From there, I found FFN and eventually AO3.  I’ve written ME fanfiction ever since.  I enjoy it.  It gives me something to do that brings me more joy than my actual job.  I’ve been studying self-publishing and maybe one day I’ll take the leap.  I don’t intend to leave my day job, since I spent 9 years and $100,000 getting my degree, but at least, I have an area of my life where I feel like I matter as an individual.  I achieve something I can be proud of.
It’s been a few years since I posted my first ME fanfiction, and I have met several amazing people.  I’ve made good friends.  We get excited over each other’s story and share interests.  I’m so thankful for them.  Plus, I’ve read some amazing fanfic and enjoyed being part of a community.  Everything someone writes is worthwhile and appreciated by someone.  We improve and encourage each other.  No one’s better than anyone else.  We’re skilled in different areas and have our own spin when it comes to writing.  Some people are primarily readers and make a fanfic writer’s day by enjoying their story.  It’s all worthwhile.  It’s fun to be in a group where you’re worth comes from being yourself, not a voice-box-less automaton who smiles and says “hi” and “good bye” every morning and every evening.
As for the future, I’ve been able to join professional writers’ facebook groups and read books about self-publishing and marketing.  I’ll keep with my day job, but now I feel less frustrated and listless.  I’m just there for the paycheck and for the enjoyment of my immediate coworkers, who again, I’ll say, are brilliant human beings.  I’m lucky to work with them.  With writing, though, I can achieve something and advance myself.  I focus on the people in my life for real satisfaction and have a hobby where I can progress myself and feel proud of what I achieve.
That’s my story.  Not very exciting, but that’s my path to writing fanfic in a nutshell.  I think it’s important that everyone has an area in their life where they find joy in accomplishing something for themself.
Thank you for the ask!  I’m sure that was more than you were expecting to get an answer.  All my short stories turn into long fics, even this one.  Lol!  Again, I appreciate your interest very much!

Honestly (a rant)
I don’t care what Supergirl writers come up with anymore.  From the start it was clear that it was always bound to go in wherever direction they want to take it or whatever the producers deem acceptable and they surely aren’t going to be listening to their audience (I mean, when have they ever?).
The actors and actresses have basically no power at all when it comes to story lines so let’s not hate on them for doing what their bosses pay them to do.  That’s just like sending hellfire on the poor receptionist or service crew for things they are only ordered to say/do.
Of course I knew Supercorp was never going to happen and that’s okay (they’d be together by now if they truly “considered” it). I mourn for the friendship though and for the way they are handling it now.   Is it queerbaiting? Maybe? Bad writing?  Definitely.  Anyways, it’s a bad cycle and here they are doing it all over again because well, they can.
Basically, Supergirl is a show with potential, ruined by shitty writing and I am OVER IT.  Let them have Kara date some random guy out of the blue just cause they are both single, sure go ahead!  Let Lena choose Lex and go evil (or not, the writers must have a ‘Good’ or ‘Bad’ spinning wheel that they base on for Lena every season), sure, whatever they want!
I will always root for and love Lena Luthor, good, bad or in between.
We all know by now how it all goes (they’re so predictable now).  That if Lena doesn’t outsmart her brother (crossing my fingers that she finally does) he is going to betray her (or worse... if he shoots her in the end I am suing) and here she is falling in one of his traps (which i’m hoping, is not the case).
Bottom line is, if you hate how the story is going then stop watching (it’s shit anyway and we just want what’s best for our favorite characters but truth is, we really can’t protect them).  Better if we stop making a noise about it in social media by picking fights (so immature by the way), tagging actors or the SG staff about it (it’s all getting exhausting honestly).  Because if you really want to make a statement on how you hate it and affect them then be a fucking LUTHOR.  BE SMART.  STOP YAPPING ABOUT HOW UNFAIR IT IS AND DO SOMETHING.  ATTACK THEIR RATINGS.  Give them a really bad one (maybe on the next episode).  Nothing but radio silence.
Remind them WHO really makes a show successful.
end of rant. goodnight.

Psycho Pass Season 3
I'm going to try to organize my sleep deprived thoughts into something coherent, so bear with me. I need to vent. I feel like the writers have been given this amazing setting, interesting characters, and great potential to tell compelling stories. Unfortunately they keep dropping the ball. It frustrates me so much. It seems like whenever a movie gets greenlit, the show starts spinning wheels so not to conflict with the project with the bigger budget. This plot went from interesting to what I think is pseudo-convoluted. Sudden personality changes and random motivations pulled out at the last minute is lazy storytelling. It is not a twist, it just makes less sense.
Having a character that consistently distrusts the judgment of Sybil, is shown to be cool calm and collected under pressure, and above all those character traits LOYAL in the previous seven episodes. We have Kei get a personality transplant, now he is basically season 2 Mika in personality and motivation. All hail Sybil (???) and we can't trust Arata because he's criminally asymptomatic... 😒 Got to get what he wants because screw everyone else or consequences, the plot needs him to do things so he's doing them. The supposed reasons this episode posits for him to make the choices just seem arbitrary and unearned.
Speaking of arbitrary and unearned, what are they doing with anyone in the cast? Seriously, it seems like the better story is happening offscreen with the original cast, and it makes me want to burn things. Why not just tell that story!?!? Why not integrate the new characters with the older cast members? Expand the world a bit, let the characters live and grow more organically instead of forcing certain points to fit the plot of upcoming movies. This season basically boiled down to a long movie trailer, and I don't think it serves to tell a good enough story to stand on its own.
Also, dear writers of this show, I have not forgotten Mika-classic and I appreciate new-Mika just about as well as new-Coke. Adding a bunch of sugar and filler does not change all of the horrid behavior and unforgivable actions in season two. Further wasted potential that the show did absolutely jack all and from the looks of things she incurred zero consequences. Actively spent a full season trying to get Akane fired and got the woman's grandmother killed? Good job, we'll throw Akane in prison and give Mika a promotion! Yet another plot thread unexplained and left in the air.
There was some good, but the feeling of being strung along is really starting to burn away the goodwill I have held for the series. There is just so much wasted potential. Also, Gen Urobuchi is no longer writing the scripts, there is no excuse for not letting best girl and her bae have their happy ending damnit.

I have always felt from episode 1 this season that the woman Liz now believes is her mother is not her mother. She has zero maternal feelings for Liz and there's no father-daughter relationship between her and Dom. One of the Johns also said in an interview that they were planning on killing Katarina twice (last season finale and , but decided to stretch the arc, which sounds like she is not a very important character in the bigger scheme of things. Is there another way of reading that?
I do think there is another way of reading it, anon, and here’s why.  I hope you don’t mind a long response because you’re about to get one.
First, in terms of the recent JE comments that they considered killing Katarina in 6.22 and again in the midseason finale, the writers have entertained a number of scenarios over the years for various characters that they later concluded were bad ideas for one reason or another. Tom Keen is the main example who springs to mind – they planned to kill him in the Pilot and then again at the end of season 1 and changed their minds both times. His character went on to play an outsized role for 4.5 more seasons and a spinoff despite evidently not being very important to the ultimate endgame (and to much controversy). JE’s comments about how they loved Laila so much that they just wanted to write more for her really reminded me of how he used to talk about Ryan. Liz’s mother was supposedly dead in the Pilot, Red turned himself in “because of your father,” and Katarina wasn’t mentioned by name until near the end of S2. She first appeared in Cape May – an episode the writers didn’t even plan for but got pushed into writing by Sony and NBC – and gradually her role and legend have grown. But I guess I’ve never expected Katarina necessarily to be a critical player in the ultimate endgame of the series (though of course she could be, if they want her to be). They also considered killing Cooper at the end of S1 along with Meera, making Ressler an amputee after Anslo - the list goes on. So I read JE’s interview as simply talking through some of the ideas that they batted around in the room (including an early death in 6.22 that might have had greater shock value) and I don’t take any of this as a definitive clue on whether this is a real Katarina or not or her ultimate importance to the story.
Turning to the character herself, I’m not sure that Katarina has ever had what most would consider typical maternal feelings for Liz. Everything we know about Katarina’s feelings for Liz has largely come through the memories of others – Red, Kirk, Mr. Kaplan, Dom – so how much was true and how much was distorted reality or a tale told to Liz to make her feel better?
Red tells Liz from the beginning that her mother died of “weakness and shame.” By season 3, she’s the “cleverest, most resourceful woman” he has ever known. “The secret-keeper who disappeared.” A woman who “dreaded having a child. Almost aborted it,” but who supposedly had a change of heart after Liz was born and thereafter never thought she was “anything but a blessing.” She’s also a woman who was “never the same” after the fire, who found it “too much” that “[t]he man she loved [was] killed by the child she adored.” Red allows Liz to believe she basically killed both her parents by pulling the trigger on her father the night of the fire. By Season 6, we learn through Red’s trial that Katarina framed Liz’s father in March 1990 for the deaths of 134 sailors aboard the USS Gideon. Red assures Liz that her parents “loved you very much,” and tries to explain that things were “complicated.” Liz is not convinced.
Kirk in season 4 paints a rosier picture – that Liz was his “entire life,” that she was “all your mother and I ever cared about.” All while holding her hostage and ultimately dangling Agnes off a roof. At the same time, Liz reads her mother’s journal, recovered from Kirk’s house where her mother waxes about how Masha is her “entire life. She’s everything.” Truth? Or carefully planted fiction?
And then Kate’s memories (which Liz isn’t even aware of) portray a mixed picture. A Katarina who tells Kate she’s not allowed to love Masha, who kills a Russian operative in the kitchen with her daughter asleep upstairs (and who admits to Kate she considered killing her too), who continues an affair on the property of home she lives in with her family without concern for what Masha sees, who later drops her with a grifter in Nebraska who never wanted to raise a child and then fakes her own death and vanishes. Is she truly maternal or self-sacrificing? Or is she simply selfish?
Dom’s Katarina is desperate and out of options. She vanishes because it’s the only choice after the unspecified things that she’s done. Dom’s memories show little concern for her daughter other than Katarina asking Ilya to care for her if “they” take her, if they get to her and a quick phone call to tell Masha she’s not coming for her anytime soon right before she fakes her death for the world.
And then we have the distorted fire memories complete with all the questions about their reliability in terms of who was who and who did what. Katarina was there – we know that much – she may have come for the fulcrum, may have come for Masha, may have fought with Reddington. There’s a lot there that we just haven’t had confirmed yet.
So – bottom line – I’m not sure if it was fair for us to expect this hardened spy who has been living underground for over 30 years to be any more maternal than she was when she finally showed up in Liz’s kitchen. Laila did portray what I felt was some genuine emotion towards Liz and Agnes. And, for all her flaws, treated both of them better than Kirk did despite his apparent belief up until 4.08 that he was in fact Liz’s father. How else would a hunted but resourceful spy be expected to get close enough to her daughter - who currently works with her greatest enemy and is employed by the FBI - without arousing suspicion other than by a ruse?
And as far as Katarina not having a father-daughter relationship with Dom – if the story we have been shown is even partially or mostly true, we are clearly missing key events in between Rassvet and Belgrade that explain how we got from one to the other. What changed in between the time that Katarina said goodbye to her father in Rassvet and the moment that Dom and Ilya tried to blow up that car in Belgrade? Supporting the narrative that there are key events we are missing are Dembe’s statement to Red that “I’m not sure Elizabeth will ever be ready to learn about what you did to Katarina,” Dom’s statement to Red that “She’s gone because of choices you made for both of them. First Katarina and then Masha. As far as I’m concerned, you killed my entire family,” Red’s statement to Dom that “[s]he knows you tried to kill her, Dom. She wants answers, but she also wants revenge. You set her up, betrayed her–.” So there seem to be explanations for why things changed between Dom and Katarina that we are not fully privy to yet.
Bottom line: There are definitely inconsistencies between the Katarina we have seen as portrayed by Lotte and the Katarina we currently see as portrayed by Laila that constantly cause me to reevaluate my position on whether she is real or not real. This Katarina doesn’t seem to remember things we think she should know. She behaves at least somewhat differently than the Katarina of memory. Not to mention the show continues to avoid the one on screen moment that would likely resolve the mystery once and for all for most viewers: Red in a room with both women confirming to Liz that Laila’s character is her mother, Katarina Rostova.
But while you come down on the side of Fakerina, I still fall on the side of Katarina being real. If she’s not, it’s a terrible waste of time for the #3 slot on the Blacklist and what will probably end up being a full season by the time the arc resolves. If she’s not, it’s a story that should have been resolved at the mid-season finale at the latest and not dragged into the back half of the season. Not to mention I’ve yet to see a plausible explanation for why some other random woman would also have such a close relationship with Ilya such that she would drop everything in Belgrade to help him, and also be intimately familiar with relatively unknown details like Masha shooting her father. Was Red pretty dispassionate about her death? Yes. But was that in part him testing Liz to see how much she had learned from the woman? He saw the signs of struggle in her apartment. He said Aram told him the woman was her neighbor and had been watching Agnes. If he’s not connecting the dots that Katarina had her hands on Liz for some period of time (which he articulated to Dembe was the case in 7.10), he’s worse off than I thought.
I’m not sure what the explanations will ultimately be for all these disconnects, but I certainly hope we’re not spinning on wheels on another fake parent just to avoid killing certain parental theories that certain podcast hosts have managed to popularize in certain writers’ minds. Thanks for the ask.

TMI Tuesday
It was very late last night when I even started writing, so I was just messing around with some bits and pieces of ideas that I may include in other fics. Still Waters is finished, and will languish for a few days before getting an edit.  I want to edit the next chapter of Time’s Curse if I get a chance today so that it can be posted.  The upshot of it all is that I don’t quite know what I want to write next.
Once I decide, I’ll be good to go, but it’s the deciding that’s the hard part. Being tired doesn’t help.  Also Summer School starts tomorrow, so I really do need a plan.  The pressure is real!
Anyway, please feel free to ask about Lover’s Leap, Time’s Curse, or any of my other fics
Here are some suggestions for you.
Ask suggestions
Ask something about any of my fics (full list is below the cut). If you want specifics from some fics that are already outlined, you can ask about:
All Our Past Mistakes, Chapters 11 through 44 Lover’s Leap Series, Stories 15 through 31 Time’s Curse, Chapters 6 through 10 Laer o Faen, Chapter 27 & 28 Stargate: Atlantis, Harms Way or any of the 20 fics in the series.
