Ooo supergirl pokemon au? I headcanon Lena has a Marowak that evolved from a Cubone that she befriended when she was little. She found Cubone when she heard it crying for its dead mother one time when she went camping, and after they became friends they would keep each other company when they missed their lost parent.

Anon this is like. . .just the bleakest headcanon I’ve ever heard omg. Baby Lena hanging out with baby cubone like yeah. . .my mother is dead too. . .

I actually - okay, so. Someone added in the replies to my pokemon posts that they thought Lex and Lillian would have a lot of ghost-types, which I am into. (Ish? I feel like Lex is split ghost/dark/psychic but just the most powerful pokemon he can get his hands on, Lillian is more Fancy Pokemon and I’m not sure about type for her just yet.) BUT specifically as this relates to your cubone feelings, I think I would really love it if Lena’s cubone evolved into Alolan-variety marowak?

Specifically bc a) it’s the most emokid iteration possible but also b) the idea that then it’s more ‘acceptable’ to keep working with them, because they’re ghost-type which fits with the Luthor family type aesthetic.

I also do very much need Lena to have a pokemon that’s just. . .useless? Like, so many of her pokemon are tough and strong and carefully selected for their unique skills and then like - IDK I’d given her a slowking because she would still want her “pet” pokemon to be powerful and impressive but I feel like something that builds character. The Snippers of her pokemon party, if you will excuse the obscure TAZ Graduation reference.

I love the idea that Cubone filled that niche for a while but once they evolve and become Marowak I think there’s like. A place in her life for a pokemon that keeps her humble, you know?

Lena keeps missing their planning appointments & is distracted & distant all the time & then when Lena actually goes to one of the appointments, she leaves abruptly midway through bc of some business call or whatever. Y/N is so fed up and sad at this point. Later on, Y/N confronts her & they start arguing & Y/N takes off her ring saying "now you have one less thing to worry about, not like you even did in the first place" and leaves. While Y/N is out Kara finds her crying on a rooftop and after talking Y/N says to Kara "I don't even know if Lena wants to get married anymore." After a while Y/N finally ends up back home and they talk and make up. Angsty with happy ending.Sorry for the long prompt lol. When Lena had proposed to you you had been extremely excited and happy. You couldn't believe that this amazing, beautiful, intelligent woman wanted to spend forever with you. The first couple of months of planning had been amazing. Lena never missed an appointment and if she was going to be late, which was rare, she let you know. It was somewhere around the 3/4 month mark when she began to not only miss the appointments but whenever she did show up she would always end up leaving early either due to a phone call she received or due to LCorp business. It wasn't just at your appointments that she started acting different though, it was at home too. You didn't even know the last time you had gone to sleep with her by your side. Even if she was home though she was distant. Every questioned you asked she either didn't answer at all or she said she was busy right then and didn't have time to talk. It was slowly breaking your heart. What had you done wrong? Was she just not in love with you anymore? You weren't sure if you wanted the honest answer to that question. You were at the end of your rope at this point. You didn't want to leave her but you refused to be treated like this. You had tried talking to her about it, but again she was always too busy to talk. You decided to just push it back for now. You both had an appointment to meet with the florist to talk about the flower arrangements. You quickly left to go to the florist shop and just hoped she would show up and that she would actually stay this time. Once you got there you waited for Lena as long as you could without being late. You sighed as you realized that she probably wasn't going to show up yet again. You still went in though and began to talk with the owner. It was nearly an hour later when Lena had finally showed up.

"Hey! Lena over here. We were just talking about the flower arrangements we want on the tables. Do you have any ideas you want to throw out there?" You asked happy that she showed up even if she was late. Lena just stared at you for a second before telling you,

"I don't really care either way. Can we hurry this up though? I have to leave soon to get back to work." You quickly looked away from her as you felt her words cause cracks in your heart. The owner gave you a sympathetic look. You barely managed to give him a small smile.

"Alright, well how about your bouquet of flowers? Do you have any idea about what you want?" You asked Lena trying to move on. She opened her mouth to say something before her phone began ringing. Without saying anything to you she quickly left the flower shop and answered her phone. You felt the tears begin to fill your eyes. Honestly if she didn't want to marry you anymore she should just say so. You quickly said goodbye to the owner and left. You headed towards LCorp. You were done being dragged around like this, you didn't deserve it. You headed up to Lenas office and walked in not caring if she was in a meeting or not right now. You were going to say what you needed to dammit and she was going to sit there and listen for fucking once. You slammed the door behind you and Lena looked up at you with a frown.

"Really (Y/N)? Are you trying to break my door?" Lena asked but you completely ignored her.

"What the hell is wrong with you Lena! Seriously! I tried giving you time to workout whatever the hell is going on but it seems like that isn't going to work." You shouted at her in the beginning before your voice began to crack. You weren't going to let her see you cry though. Not now at least because right now she doesn't deserve your tears.

"(Y/N) you need to calm down. There is no need for yelling and if you cant discuss this like an adult you need to leave." Lena told you in her cold CEO voice. Your eyes widened. Is she fucking serious right now, you thought to yourself. You scoffed.

"Are you fucking kidding me right now Lena. After all the shit you have been putting me through you have the guts to talk to me like that right now. Wow." You rolled your eyes. You honestly couldn't believe this. The Lena you fell in love with would never do this. Lena looked at you with confusion and anger swirling in her eyes.

"What are you talking about (Y/N)? I haven't done anything to you. Again if we cant discuss this like adults then leave. I don't have time for your childish bullshit right now. I have a business that needs my focus right now." She told you coldly. You clenched you jaw before ripping your ring off your finger.

"You can have this back. Now you won't need to worry about taking away any focus from your business. Its not like you actually did anyways." You said before throwing the ring at her and leaving her office. Lena sat in her chair dumbfounded. Did that really just happen? She asked herself before getting up and grabbing the ring. She felt her tears fill her eyes. She knew she had been distant lately and that she had been fucking up but she never thought that she would push you to the point of leaving her. She needed to find you but maybe she should give you some space first. She decided that would probably be best and went back to work trying to distract herself. Meanwhile you were crying on the rooftop of yours and Lenas apartment. You didn't know what to do. Lena was the love of your life but you weren't sure that you were hers anymore. You had only been crying on the rooftop for a couple of minutes when you felt Kara land beside you. You turned towards her and before she could ask what was wrong you launched yourself at her. She caught you easily and just held you while you cried on her shoulder.

"I think me and Lena are over. She's been so distant and she doesn't even really go to anymore of our appointments for the wedding. I don't think she wants to marry me anymore Kara. I don't even think she loves me anymore." You managed to whisper out once you had stopped crying. You felt Karas arms tighten around you slightly before she let out a sigh.

"(Y/N) you are the only girl for Lena. That woman looks at you like you hung all the stars in the sky. Hell just a week ago she couldn't stop talking about you." Kara told you. "She was all like, (Y/N) is the most beautiful woman ever Kara. Have you seen her smile? It lights up the world. Im so lucky to have her in my life." Kara said trying to imitate Lenas voice. It caused a laugh to fall from your lips. You shook your head at Karas antics and smiled. If Lena had been telling that to Kara just a week ago maybe she still did want to marry you. You stayed up on the rooftop with Kara for a couple more hours before deciding to head back down to the apartment. You slowly opened the door to find Lena sitting on the couch with tears falling down her face. When she saw you she immediately jumped up and pulled you into a hug.

"(Y/N), baby I'm so sorry. I was out of line earlier. I just... I've just been so stressed and busy and I kept feeling like you would change your mind about marrying me because you would realize that a woman as amazing as you could have anyone she wanted. I guess I just got so scared you were going to leave that I began to unintentionally push you away. I'm sorry please forgive me please." Lena held you tighter as she began to cry against you. You're eyes were wide as saucers and you didn't know what to say. Lena wasn't doing it on purpose she was just scared. You sighed as you wrapped your arms around her waist.

"Lena baby you have to talk to me about this stuff. You cant keep it hidden. Communication is key you know this. If we don't communicate with each other this relationship won't last." You whispered to her softly. She nodded her head against your shoulder before telling you that she knows. She kissed the top of her head before leading the both of you towards the couch. You laid down with her laying down on top of you.

"I'm also sorry Lena. I shouldn't have practically attacked you at your office. There was probably a better way of starting that conversation. We both have things we need to work on but I wouldn't want to work on them with anyone but you." You said. Lena lifted her head from your chest and placed a soft kiss on your lips. When she pulled away she pulled your ring out of her pocket.

"This belongs to you baby." She slipped it back onto your finger and you gave her a small smile. You still needed to talk about somethings but for now you were just happy to have Lena in your arms and Lena well she was just happy that she hadn't lost you forever. You both ended up falling asleep together with your limbs tangled together and smiles on your faces.

oh yeah, absolutely agreed! there’s definitely the factor of Lex’s reveal having been done with the message of “all your friends have been lying to you and using you and humiliating you for years” & then Lena basically stewing in that emotional devastation (not to mention the accumulated trauma of....... everything in S4) for a whole month with no real counterbalances before we get to the awards ceremony and Kara actually doing the reveal herself.

also like. hands down her plan was inexcusable, the VR thing is fucking iffy to put it mildly, and obviously she’s in her worst place she’s ever been in the past three seasons, and while it’s all very easily understandable, it certainly doesn’t need defending. but for sure, i think it speaks to both the depths of Lena’s mental and emotional clusterfuck & how much she must have been convinced that everything Lex has told her was true that Kara’s confession not only took her completely off guard, it made her do a complete 180 on her plans. we literally go from all that Real Bad Shit to Lena crying through her speech that was meant to hurt and devastate, from “I Want To Make Her Pay” to “eh, i guess i can just incorporate her into my Grand Plans For The Betterment of Humanity, shut up Hope i’m still totally an edgelord”, and, i’d argue, from her fucking around w the Luthor watch to her staring at the Super signal watch. there’s Progress, lads, even if it’s from real bad to slightly less bad.

There she went again. Supergirl flying from the window as she cut your date short for the fourth time that week. Your heart couldn’t help but sink as you pursed your lips, slouching in your seat.

It’s not that it was exactly Kara’s fault. The city needed her. However, that didn’t stop you from feeling disappointed every time she left to save a burning building or stop the latest alien threat. 

You wished Supergirl would just take a break and leave the hero work up to the police for once. The thought left a sinkhole of guilt in your soul, but you couldn’t help it. Her constant leaving always made you feel like you weren’t important to her. 

It made you feel alone in the relationship.

With a sigh, you turned off Kara’s TV and headed for the door. The lights flickered off and the lock clicked behind you as you headed home.

When Kara’s name came up on your phone the next morning, you ignored the ringing. You weren’t in the mood to speak to her and you could always pretend you had your phone on silent. You were at work, after all.

Unfortunately, you weren’t able to avoid your girlfriend for long. It was only an hour later when she showed up at your office.

There was a knock on your office door and it opened to reveal Kara. “Hey,” she said. Her face was covered in concern. “Can we talk?”

“Come on in,” You motioned. You tried to hide the deep sigh, but it didn’t go unnoticed.

Kara brushed her hands over her shirt nervously. Despite your turmoil toward your girlfriend, you could never get over the fact that Supergirl, hero of National City, could get so anxious. Kara took a seat across from you as she fumbled with her glasses. “Where did you go last night? I thought we were going to finish our movie. I was worried about you.”

“You could have called last night,” You suggested. “Or you could have stayed home.”

“Y/N …” Kara said. “Is that what this is about? You’re mad that I had to leave?”

“No -” You started. “Okay, yes. Look, I know that you’re a superhero. I know you can’t just sit around while the city is in danger, but I just wish that for once, you could put everything on hold. We tried to have four dates this week and not a single one of them lasted over half an hour.”

“I know, and I am so sorry. Let me make it up to you. Please?”

“That’s just it, Kara. You’ve been trying to make it up to me for weeks. I don’t blame you for saving the city. It’s amazing and important. And so are you. People look up to you and trust you to help them. I just wish I could trust that you would be here when I need you.”

Kara looked away, twiddling her thumbs. “So what are you saying?”

You moved around your desk to kneel next to Kara. “I know what you’re thinking, and that is not at all where I’m at. I promise.”

“Then what place are you in?”

“I just - I want to know you’re making an effort. I love you, Kara Danvers. But every time you fly out that window, I can’t help but feel like I’m not as important as everything else in your life.”

“Whoa, hey,” Kara said, gripping your hands. “Don’t ever think that. I love you, too. You are the most important person in my life. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I just feel so guilty for making you feel so bad about yourself. I can do better.”

“You can’t just stop saving the city, Kara.”

Kara opened her mouth to speak, but couldn’t come up with anything to say, and closed it again.

“I know that I’m contradicting myself. I’m confused. I don’t know what to feel.” Tears had begun stinging your eyes.

Kara planted a kiss to the top of your head before pulling you into a tight hug. “We’ll work through this. Together.”

You couldn’t help but notice Lena the first time she appeared at game night. Kara had spoken very highly of her and you could see why. She was very kind - definitely a turnaround to the usual associations of the Luthor name. Not to mention her intelligence. Lena, you decided, was a wonderful addition to the group. 

The two of you quickly became good friends. You looked forward to seeing her every week. And before long, you even started hanging out outside of game night.

You and Kara had been working on your problems. She’d really been trying hard not to ditch you so much, but that wasn’t always possible. She kept you safe, she kept the city safe, and that, you decided, was probably all you could ask for. Your life, you figured, would always be that way.

So when Kara had to run out just as you were about to meet her for dinner, you forced yourself not to cry as you sat alone. 

It was your anniversary.

You were supposed to have a romantic night. But Kara couldn’t even put the cape on hold for that. You had been looking forward to it for ages. She had promised not to let anything come between this night. But the promise was broken. And so was your heart.

Then you saw Lena. She strode into the restaurant alone. Probably to meet someone. However, when she saw you, clutching your phone a little too tightly as you told the waiter your date would be there soon for the fourth time, she didn’t hesitate to move to your side.

“Hey, Y/N,” Lena said. “What’s going on? Shouldn’t Kara be here? It’s your anniversary, isn’t it?”

“Lena, hi,” You said. “Yeah, it is. One year together. But she had a - um - a job and I don’t think she’s coming. I should just - I should go.”

“Wait,” Lena said. “You shouldn’t be alone. Do you mind if I join you?”

“Go ahead.” You were so grateful for Lena. This may have been the worst anniversary in the world, but at least someone was there for you.

Lena took a seat across from you. Admittedly, it felt kind of awkward. The table was set with floating candles and a small bouquet of roses. “She stood you up for a news story?” A look of annoyance - no, anger - flashed across Lena’s face. “I’m so sorry.”

“It was important. I get it. The world doesn’t wait.”

“Yes it can.”

You wished you could explain the situation to Lena, but she had no idea who Kara really was.

“It’s not as if she’s saving lives. She’s writing a report. I am very fond of Kara, but why do you continue to defend her when she stands you up or runs out on you? It seems to happen a lot.”

“She’s just - she’s busy,” You said, but you faltered. Lena had just voiced your very concerns. Despite her efforts, Kara hand’t really gotten any better. After all, if it weren’t for Lena, you would be all alone on your anniversary.

“She showed,” the waiter said. He appeared so suddenly at your table that you jumped. “You must be a very lucky lady to have a girlfriend willing to wait so long. What can I get started for you two?”

“Oh, no. We’re -”

“I am,” Lena said. Her hand jumped across the table to grab yours. She gave you an earnest look, silently begging you to go along with it. 

After the waiter left with your order, you stared, dumbstruck, at your friend. You tried several times to form a sentence, but no words came out.

“You didn’t need the embarrassment,” Lena said simply. “It’s been a tough enough night. I hope that was all right?”

“Y - yeah,” You stammered. “Thank you.”

“How long, exactly, had you been waiting for Kara?”

“A little over an hour. Sixty - seven minutes.”

“You counted the minutes?”

“I know. It’s pathetic.”

“Not at all. Actually, had I been Kara, I would see it as quite endearing.”

Your anniversary dinner may not have been what you expected - it may not have even included the person whose anniversary you shared - but it was amazing. You and Lena talked for hours, catching up since your last meeting, speaking about work. You hadn’t realized until then just how freakishly smart Lena was. Most everything she spoke about in relation to L-Corp went straight over your head, but she was so passionate that you held on to every word, even after she finally noticed the more than slightly confused look on your face and apologized.

“No, go on. It’s important to you, which means it’s important to me.”

You thought you saw the traces of a blush cross her cheeks as she dove back into the monologue. But you dismissed it as nothing more than a trick of the light.

You were with Kara. Not Lena.

“Thank you very much,” You said as you exited the restaurant a few hours later. “It means a lot.”

“Of course,” Lena said. “Did you drive? I can take you home.”

“I drove, but thank you. You weren’t coming to meet anybody, were you?” You realized you had been so wrapped up in your disappointment, you hadn’t stopped to think that perhaps there was somebody Lena had disappointed when she chose to join you.

“No. I came for a night to myself. But I’m very glad I saw you, so don’t get the wrong idea. Are you going to be okay?”

“I will.”

“Text me when you get home,” Lena said. She wrapped you in a hug before striding away toward her car.

The drive home was a mess of conflicting emotions. Lena had been so kind and generous. She even insisted of paying the tab until you finally relented and allowed her. She was so kind. She had gone out of her way to make sure you were okay, changed her plans for you. 

The way her eyes lit up when she saw you. And that smile - that beautiful, intoxicating smile. Not to mention the laugh. The laugh that sent chills up your spine.

No. You couldn’t think that way. You were with Kara. You loved Kara. Lena was just a friend. A good friend and nothing more. But maybe … No. No way. You weren’t developing feelings for Lena. You couldn’t.

You hadn’t expected Kara to be at your apartment when you arrived home. She stood ready with a bouquet of flowers and a very sorry expression. When you opened the door to see her standing there, you were at a loss for words.

“Hey,” Kara said. “I am so sorry I missed dinner. I know I promised nothing would pull me away tonight and then it did. I feel terrible. These are for you.”

“Thank you.” You hesitated before taking the flowers. “I’ll - uh - I’ll put them in some water.”

You set the bouquet down on the counter, but before you could grab a vase, Kara’s arms wrapped around you. “Movie night? I picked up donuts and ice cream.” 

You spun around in her arms, looking up at your girlfriend with tears in your eyes. “I … can’t, Kara. I’m sorry. But I’m tired. I just want to go to bed.”

Kara physically deflated. “Okay. I understand. I’ll call you tomorrow.”

“Sounds good.”

Kara kissed you, but for probably the first time, you felt almost nothing as your lips connected. You were upset, confused, and you needed time to sort our your feelings. Time away from Kara. You rubbed your neck as the door closed behind her. You didn’t think it was possible, but you somehow felt more alone than you had when you realized Kara wouldn’t make it to dinner.

A/N: This one was interesting to write because I had it all planned out in my head, but it ended up nothing like how I made it in my head.  That’s normally how it goes though, but this one had so many more differences than they normally do.  Enjoy it though.

After the frightening call I got from my niece, Ruby, about my sister, Sam, being sick I packed up a few suit cases of bags and flew from where I lived in New York all the way to National City. That’s what I’m doing right now, flying to National City.  Soon enough though I feel the plane land on the runway and since it was a private jet that I own I was the only one riding in it aside from the piolet and the attendants I always had with me when I flew.

After exiting the plane I hear Ruby shout, “Aunt (Y/N)!”

The suddenly I’m tackled in a hug by her, so now we’re laying on the ground with me trapped in a giant bear hug by my twelve year old niece.

“Hi, sweet heart,” I say finally standing up with her in my arms.

“Auntie, this is Lena Luthor she’s helping mom and taking care of me,” Ruby tells me gesturing at the short dark haired woman behind her.

I couldn’t help but notice how soul capturing her blue-green eyes are.  They look like you could literally be sucked into them and quite frankly I think that no one would want to leave if it happened.

“Hi.  I’ve heard a lot about you from Ruby,” Lena offers.

“Good things I hope?” I chuckle and put my arm on Ruby’s shoulder sticking my right hand out for Lena to shake.  “(Y/N) Arias at your service.”

She smiles at me and we all start to walk towards a car where I have her drive Ruby and I back to Sam’s home.  Once there she makes her apologies for having to leave so soon and rushes back to attend to work.

A few weeks later with a lot of bonding time for Ruby and I alone and talking a lot to Lena about Sam’s condition Ruby and I became bored and were hopelessly playing a board game she found in a closet.

“Auntie, you should meet Alex, she’s really cool,” Ruby says and grabs the home phone to presumably call this Alex.

But before she could even call the phone started ringing so she answered it.

“Hi, Lena!” she spoke.  “How’s mom?”  After a minute she hands the phone to me with a confused face.

“Hello?” I question when I answer the phone.

“(Y/N), Sam isn’t doing very well and her vitals are becoming irregular.  I don’t know how much longer I can keep her at her best,” Lena stammered.

“Oh, okay.  Uhm, just keep me pos- posted,” I reply with a crack in my voice.  Ruby’s ride to her friends just arrived so she had left almost immediately after I had picked up the phone.

“Hey, don’t cry.  Come open your front door, like now because my arm is getting tired from holding this phone to my face.”

I nod knowing she can’t see it and hang up. Walking towards the door I realized that I hadn’t actually cried when my voice cracked, it was just nerves, but now I actually am crying as much as I hate to admit it.

With steady tears running down my face and failed attempts to wipe them all away and look composed, I opened the door.  Not even saying a word, I walk away from Lena and towards the living room where I collapse on the couch with the tears streaming even worse now.

I felt the couch dip neck to me and a gentle hand pressed on my shoulder to make me look at her.  I look at her and her features automatically softened.

“Hey. . . Hey. . .” she cooed at me.  “Don’t cry it’s breaking my heart and nothing ever breaks my heart.”

I look at her and give her an extremely weak smile.  Under my breath I say, “God you’re gorgeous.”

“You’re so more,” she giggled making me smile a little more.

“So what does that mean?” I ask sitting up a little with my tears stopping.

“It means I like you,” she shyly states, and if anything I’ve learned from Ruby in the past couple weeks is that the Lena Luthor isn’t shy about anything.  “Do you maybe wanna go on a date with me?  I think we both could use a breather from this whole situation.”

I nod my head with a big grin on my face, “I’d love that.”

So a week and a half later after our sixth date she asks me to be her girlfriend which I happily said yes.

Today she was supposed to take me to see Sam since she was doing a bit better.  That’s why I’m walking into L-Corp right now and immediately led to the basement lab. There Lena meets me at the elevator with a kiss on the cheek.  She takes my hand and leads me towards Sam.

“So you and my sister, huh,” Sam asks in a voice that doesn’t seem like her own.

“Sam honey, come back to us.  I don’t want to have to shock you in front of (Y/N),” Lena says in a slightly worried tone.

I squeeze her hand reassuringly.  Sam speaks again, “No, no.  I’m just making sure you don’t hurt my sister, ‘cause if you hurt my sister I’ll kill you.”

“I promise I won’t hurt her, now Reign can we please have Sam back fully so your sister can see her?”

“(Y/N/N)!” Sam exclaimed.

“God I wish you’d give up that nickname,” I laughed as I neared the cell that Sam was in.

“Hey!  It’s cute okay?” she giggled.  She pointed at Lena, “You better not hurt her because I can already tell she’s head over heels for you.  And you don’t hurt my best friend got it?”

I nod my head and hear Lena giggle, “That’s what we get for letting me date my best friend’s sister.”

I need some headcanon on Lena suffering from ptsd bc there is no way that she's okay after all this attempt on her life and the shit that her awful family put her through

The first time she almost dies, she pretends everything is fine. She is good at that.

The second time, she cries, but just a bit. Just in the way she was taught to: no noise. No shaking shoulders, trembling breath. 

(If she clenches her fists, well– It is a weakness. It will not happen again.)

The third, fourth, fifth. How many is it now? She has to pause, count. There’s something terrifying about it, folding down each finger for a chance she had to die.

Lionel would get threats. She remembers the way every box, bag, letter was searched. She does not know if anything was ever found in his mail.

She knows that many things have been found in her own.

Funny, how everyone seems to want her dead. Those who support her brother. Those who hate him.

Funny, how it’s not funny at all. It’s the furthest thing from funny, but she puts down the fifth finger and bursts into laughter at the fist she has made: five. Five. She clenches her thumb over her knuckle, recalls the self-defense classes she took during college, after Lex went mad. After she got her first death threat.

Five attempts in months, and her mind immediately extrapolates, multiplies the figure. How many will it be in a year? How many will it be a lifetime?

Will she make it that long?

She wakes up after a nightmare, her pillow soaked in sweat. She shakes and she shakes and she spends the rest of the night working, staring at the light of her laptop until the sun comes up so she doesn’t have to think about darkness anymore.

Jess knocks the next day. She always knocks. Lena jumps anyway, nearly sends a stack of papers flying.

It sounds like a gunshot.

It sounds like a gunshot and it’s not, it’s not, it’s not.

(Is it?)

She hides her hands beneath her desk as she calls for Jess to enter. She does not want anyone to see them tremble.

The first lesson Lillian had taught her was how to sit properly at a table. Folded hands. Napkin on lap. Cross your ankles, never your knees.

The second came days later. A memory of her mother and then: stop crying. Stop. Stop. There were words that followed, things like not befitting of a Luthor and no daughter of mine, but she hardly hears them. Her mind falls empty. Echoing: stop.

It is what she thinks of now, as Jess presents report after report and Lena nods like she understands a word. Stop— She does not know what needs to stop. She is not crying. She is not shaking. She is doing everything right. Stop—

(No. She will never do anything right.)

She used to like her balcony. She could see the stars. 

But oh, if she falls again, it will not be upward.

She used to like the park, but oh, all she sees now is the gun and the man behind it and her mother, somewhere in the distance: stop.

She used to like National City. She used to like her office.

She used to like life. When did that stop?

(Does she care that it stopped?)

Kara shows up several times a week, always on the longest days, the hardest. It is like she knows.

(Maybe she does. She has lost a world, after all. Out of everyone, she does understand.)

Sometimes she brings food along. Sometimes they order in. One time, she all but drags Lena out of her chair, out of her office, into the hallway. It is bright, and though she squints, it burns just a bit.

They get to the lobby, and it hits her. The way Kara had saved her. The way Hank Henshaw had thrown the L, how close it had been.

(A voice fills in: not close enough.)

Lena freezes, just like she had then. 

She remembers that day in flashes, and it happens here, the world blinking into nothingness and then coming back full force, bright color. Stutter of pain. Kara holds her. It helps, yes, but it doesn’t cure, and she hates, hates, hates, that someone is seeing this part of her.

(Stop.)

She feels like she cannot breathe for hours afterward.

“When I first arrived on Earth,” Kara says later, back in Lena’s office, looking straight at Lena. Lena stares down. “The noise, the light– It was too much. I used to hide in the corner of my room and put my hands over my ears.”

“How did you make it stop?” Oh, a question a Luthor should never ask. But she’s never been much of a Luthor anyway.

“I– Time. Practice. Alex would come and hug me until it got better. That helped.” Kara reaches out to take one of Lena’s hands in her own, slowly, like she is waiting for Lena to tell her to stop. “It always helped me to… Have someone. To just be there with me. And then, after a while, I could do it myself.”

Lena isn’t used to this. This care. This offer. She could be, though. Oh, she could be.

It takes some time. She has spent so long convincing herself that she is not worthy of this, any of it, that it takes time, and patience, and effort, and one time Kara lands too roughly on her balcony and it reminds her of the noise her back had made when it hit the railing, right before she fell, and she freezes.

It takes some time. The first time she spends the night at Kara’s apartment she wakes up and sees the unfamiliar crawl of light from underneath the bathroom door and she screams. Kara reaches to hold her, and Lena shies away. It takes two laps of the apartment, minutes of pacing and breathing, to make her feel okay enough to go back into the room.

Kara is awake, waiting. She lets Lena fall in next to her, lets Lena be the one to pull her close. When she does, Kara wraps her arms around her. “I’m here.”

It is nice, to have her there. It is even nicer, to realize that she wants life not because of Kara or any grand ideal of love, but because the sunrise looks really pretty from the windows of her office. Because everyone at the coffee shop around the corner recognizes her now, has her favorite drink ready at the same time every morning. Because she can do so much. Because she wants to do all of it.

The nightmares stick. The fears stick too. They are as unshakeable, it seems, as the weight of her name. They are a part of her. But the smile she gives Kara when she walks into the kitchen to see her cooking pancakes, flowers on the table, is part of her too. The wave she gives Jess every morning when she walks into her office. 

The way she is here–still, still, after everything–is a part of her.

And she is learning to be happy about it.

with the first pregnancy, with finn, lena’s happy, she is but she’s kind of terrified??  bc kara’s so excited and she has fears too, but she’s so ready for this baby?? ?  so ready, she’s got lists of names and has been spending a lot of time poring over every detail she remembers from krypton, asking alura’s hologram question after question in order to make sure she has all the customs right, that remembers everything correctly in order to welcome their child into the world they way any child of krypton would be.  but lena doesn’t—its not that she doesnt want the baby??  its not that at all.  she cant think of anything better than another piece of kara out in the world, can’t think of anything better than the painfully bright smile kara had when the test came back positive, so bright it felt like it was tearing lena apart

the root of the problem is this: lena wouldnt know a healthy family dynamic if it hit her in the face.  like she sees the danvers, she sees kara’s little ragtag family of superfriends, but when you’re not raised in an environment like that???  its hard to think that you can ever create an environment like that for your own kid, god knows i struggle with that.  she knows kara’s going to be operating at like a fifteen.  she’s pretty sure she’ll be lucky if she can manage a seven, maybe.  she keeps thinking about how her therapist characterized her childhood as one of disorganized attachment, that she never had any one nanny very long bc lillian would see them beginning to bond and would fire them, that her only real connection was lex, lionel sometimes, and they both left her too.  god, how is she going to do this?

kara says the pregnancy drags on, that she can’t wait until their little person is here but lena thinks it goes by so fast, her body changing faster than she can track, their apartment filling with cribs and toys and little onesies and sleepsacks quickly, so quickly and then she’s about two days overdue and she wakes up with twinges but refuses to admit it, tells kara it’s braxton hicks again, she’s sure

she’s been working from home for the last several weeks and kara’s been keeping closer, been using her stacked vacation days before her maternity leave goes into effect (bc catco sure as shit offers paid leave to both parents!!!!  u think cat grant wouldnt do that shit?????) 

lena cries when her water breaks.  full on tears.  kara thought for a second that its because its a big thing, you know??  she’s a little close to tears too, but lena keeps crying after the initial shock should have worn off and she’s like lena??  honey??

and lena isnt making a lot of sense but the biggest thing kara gets is its too early, we’re not ready, it’s too early

sweetheart, the nursery is completely set up, we have clothes and toys and that nursing pillow, we’re ready, you’re overdue!

and oh, kara’s not sure what to do with that bc this is something that needs to be talked about but lena’s also contracting everything three minutes and kara’s not sure she can drive her fast enough 

lena’s screaming through the whole thing, screaming and crying and begging for this baby to stay, don’t move, i’m not ready for you and kara’s heart is breaking and she wants to help her, wants to make this better for her but there’s no stopping this and lena knows it too, bears down with all the strength she has and kara thinks that if her hand could break, her wife would have broken it by now but then

kara cuts the cord, looks up at lena with wide wet eyes and breathes lee, he’s beautiful and lena’s still crying, but when the doctor lifts up their son she reaches for him and it is immediate, no stopping it, she takes one look at his little face and she’s done, she in this, and there isn’t a single doubt in lena’s mind that she would rather watch the entire world burn than ever let him down, ever let him doubt her love

kara’s afraid to hold finn for a while (that’s a story for a different post tho) and while lena’s hurting for her, wishes she wasn’t as afraid, she’s selfishly so pleased bc it means she gets to hold finn all the time.  she gets to just???  be with her son?????  she didn’t think her heart could get any bigger, thought that kara had expanded it as much as it could grow but then finn stretches or grabs hold of lena’s finger or necklace or makes those soft sleepy little baby noises and she’s p sure her heart doubles in size again and again.  she can’t put it into words???  she’s not even sure if she wants to, bc it feels too much, too big for words.  she feels so warm and full and finn falls asleep nursing sometimes, falls asleep with his eyes trained on lena and her heart shatters in the best way, bursts open and reforms again and again

she brings him to work with her a lot bc while she’s itching to go back to her office, she also feels a lil sick at the thought of not being right there with him.  investors and board members sort of have to just learn to expect the ceo of a fortune 500 company to come to meetings with her baby strapped to her chest, learn to speak quietly bc she has no qualms abt shutting a meeting down if finn gets woken

gOD she spends like A Lot of time just......marveling at their son??  in awe of how full her heart feels, how quickly her entire world has rearranged around this little thing (not that little tbh......finn is a Hearty baby, all roly poly double chin)  like.  it’s wild.  she can’t believe it, cant believe that she once was so certain she would be alone forever, that the luthor name would hold her down, press her into the river bottom until she drowned.  but now???  now she’s lena luthor only professionally, now she signs her legal documents lena danvers, now her entire world has narrowed to two wonderful, golden beings, to kara’s smile and finn’s laugh, to the family that welcomed her and embraced her

AND THEN MAIA COMES ALONG and its the same but its so different bc lena sort of knows what to expect????  but it hits her a little differently, no baby is the same, and its not lost on her that now she has a daughter and with the relationship she had with lillian, it’s a Big Thing.  she’s relaxed into motherhood with finn, gotten into a rhythm and somewhat managed to reign in her constant world stopping awe at how much she loves her kid, but maia is so different, has a completely different personality and she never falls asleep nursing, isn’t as mesmerized by lena’s necklaces, but she falls asleep tucked into the crook of lena’s arm and likes to play with lena’s fingers and she makes it so easy for lena to feel confident, so easy for her to feel like she’s doing well.  

maia smiles early, freely, laughs often and likes it when lena dances around the kitchen with her so she does it nearly every day, finds it so easy to split her time between maia and finn, finds her love growing every day and sometimes??  she just has to call out for the day bc she just wants to spend the day with her family????  wild right/????

she and kara turn into Those Moms that always have at least two hundred photos of their kids on their phones at any given moment.  somehow they are always photos none of the superfriends have seen before

alex isnt sure how they manage it like there is only so much time in the day

AND THEN LITTLE STELLA??  she’s so wildly different from her siblings, so so tiny and lena thought it would be different because of how stella came to them, that maybe lena would have more issues to work through bc stella was orphaned and that, in of itself, makes her confront her own issues but nope, not at all

kara flies into her office, still dressed as supergirl even though her cape is a little bundle in her arms, and she’s got a look on her face that makes lena put down the contract she was looking over and get up, go to meet her halfway and when lena looks down, she gets the look on kara’s face, knows then that kara’s already just as in love with this little thing as she is with finn and maia, and she looks down and falls just as in love as well.  the little baby in kara’s arms is so tiny compared to finn, compared to maia, tiny and delicate and she’s sleeping until lena steps closer, little eyes blinking open and lena knows the facts, knows that babies this young can’t focus their eyes (and god she’s young, kara tells lena she’s only a few hours old, at most), but this little baby is looking up at her and lena knows that this baby is her baby, as much as finn or maia are hers

god lena didnt know her heart could grow any more.  she thought she’d have burned out by now???  she didn’t think anything could be this renewable, this expandable, but her heart is overflowing and lena knows she’d bring her children the stars if they asked.  stella stays much smaller, worries her mothers for months until she finally starts putting on weight, and the worry never goes away but it fades bc lena gets to see her children together, gets to discover this new level of pride and love when she sees maia helping stella turn on the faucet when they’re told to wash their hands before dinner, when she catches stella slipping into finn’s room when lena’s just left after he’s had a nightmare, when she watches finn tuck a blanket around his sisters when they fall asleep during family movie night

AND THEY LOVE HER SO FREELY lena can’t believe it, can hardly stand it.  they love her so so much, lena doesnt think she deserves it.  like???  she still fucks up, she’s not the perfect mother by any means, but they all know she’s the perfect mother for them.  what other human could love them so fully?  what other person could so easily adapt to their unique challenges and needs?  what other mother (besides kara, obviously) could handle their temper tantrums and shitty behavior with so much patience and calm?  

god the kiddos love lena.  they rlly rlly do.  she is so so careful with each of them, careful in different ways, the best ways.  like???  they all know they won the parental lottery, her and kara bring their a game each and every day and sometimes the kids get bratty, bc theyre kids u know??  but they never forget that their mothers are the best

and they know a little bit about lena’s childhood, know that lillian was never loving, kind, patient.  that she never sat up with lena when she had a nightmare or put her hair in plaits with gentle hands.  that she never tucked her in at night or came to every recital or play or game, or sat on the bathroom floor when they were sick or helped pack their bag for a sleepover.  that she never cared for lena the way lena cares for them

they’re all p good abt being vocal with their love for lena, but stella is the best at it (solely bc she can tell when lena’s having a Bad Day, knows when she needs to be a little louder).  she usually catches maia and finn up to speed, usually ropes them into helping her make a card or pool their money to get her one of those cheesy #1 Mom mugs from hallmark (kara has several variations of SuperMom) or sometimes they rope kara into helping them cook dinner for lena

THIS WAS A V LONG WAY OF SAYING THAT LENA IS SO SOFT WHEN IT COMES TO HER FAMILY, SO SOFT WHEN IT COMES TO HER CHILDREN.  GOD SHE WOULD DIE FOR THEM IN A HEARTBEAT.  SHE WOULD BURN THE WORLD FOR THEM BUT GOOD GOD THEY FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT HER

time for cileme’s weekly supergirl ep review/analysis/word vomit etc!!!! 

in all honestly, again, i actually freakin loved that episode

like, bc i’m a sadist i actually rlly wanted some tension between alex and kara abt alex becoming a lot closer w maggie and kara now having to share alex (for a lack of a better word) so having this whole storyline between alex and kara abt that was actually rlly satisfying 

(although i do have to say alex was very ooc this episode bc listen, first off, alex would not blow off kara’s birthday not for anything ok, and two, the whole pushing kara towards mon el thing, look i’ll talk abt that later but i wasnt so keen)

but also maggie being the cutest girlfriend ever and surprising alex w concert tickets??? and then her being so supportive when she knows alex feels weird abt kara’s birthday and the whole “the days of you pushing down your feelings are officially over” CAN WE JUST APPRECIATE THAT LINE FOR A HOT SECOND and i rlly loved that while alex apologised for kind of abandoning kara a little here, she didn’t say that it would never happen again and justified that she doesn’t want to have to feel bad for spending time with maggie because now, she has another aspect of her life that is gonna have to fit and i love that bc that’s such an adult concept and it’s rlly hard to manage sometimes and i’m glad they dealt w it 

meanwhile the actual PLOT of the episode like the stuck in the deo, white martian thing - holy shit that was amazing. it was like watching a thriller movie and winn was amazing with comedic relief and VASQUEZ MY GAL “you moron” bless susan vasquez everybody and it was just done so freakin well especially the plot twist with the two white martians and one of them being alex like DAYUM I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING 

also j’onn and m’gann can we all just cry for a second please because i am so emo abt those two, he loves her so much and she just can’t believe that he cares about her and they are so precious and wonderful and okay look, i know we are all very annoyed that they wrote out their one woc after her own centric episode but listen, i am 90% sure m’gann will be back bc they didn’t write her out the way they wrote cat out, plus after giving her and j’onn so many moments this episode? they’re gonna bring her back, i’m sure of it, i think her leaving is going to become a plot point so i think the fandom needs to simmer down a little bit abt how problematic m’gann leaving is bc guys, there are episodes to come ok??

now i am also very certain that there were scenes cut from this episode, probably maggie / sanvers scenes bc they’d promoted something ages ago about a sanvers moment in public right? like, we’d all speculated there’d be a kiss in front of everyone or something, and there was nothing. meanwhile, a cast member got asked what her fav sanvers moment was and said the one from this week and we barely got sanvers this week which makes me think that we for sure are missing some scenes here, which is hella annoying honestly but i’m sure we’ll see them resurface, also again, very jam packed episode so i also get why for continuity sake they may not have included some maggie scenes halfway through or somethin (but ok for real, if maggie’s a lead they need to start treating her like one ok, we need a maggie centric episode and more maggie scenes please)

i was so excited when we had that scene in the bar at the beginning bc for a hot second, i thought the writers were pulling a 180 

and it wasn’t even that i wanted kara to reject mon el (i did but), it’s that i wanted her to turn away any kind of romantic advance on her so that she could focus on herself and that’s what it seemed like she was doing and i was so ready for it bc holy shit, the writers were actually sticking to kara’s character, and also after the way he’s treated her, the way he acts, the kind of things he does, it doesn’t make sense for her to pine after him so i was like BLESS i was right to have faith

but of all people, alex pushing kara towards mon el? what the actual entire fuck? alex hates him. she does not like him. she has not at any given point in season 2 expressed any real appreciation of him, for the most part, she either dislikes him or is neutral. alex wouldn’t do that? she wouldn’t try and convince kara to be with mon el when kara’s already expressed how she feels? (plus just to be catty, alex you’ve barely spent any time w kara lately ok, how would you even know how kara feels (lmao sorry fam)). also i’m annoyed bc now mon el has moved on asap to that catco chick and kara’s still going to pine after him despite clear showings of more fuckboy tendencies? like tf is this, it makes zero sense. 

but ok no for the most part, i loved that episode, i just hated that the writers screwed it up w karamel at the end and also having m’gann leave but i think that might become a plot point so we’ll see

BRUH

so kara’s a muggle born hufflepuff and lena’s a pure blood slytherin (who like......easily could have gone to ravenclaw if she wasnt so terrified of what lillian would say or do if she didn’t end up in the luthor’s typical house) and they’re p sure the kiddos are going to have magic (like 90% on finn and maia??  stella’s a lil more murky bc they’re p sure that her birth mom was a witch but its not as if they’ve got like.......Offical Records on her or anything)

so finn and maia show magic p early??  from like toddlers tbh so they’re expecting their letters and then stella’s like nine and hasn’t shown any inclination to magic and she’s starting to ask when she’ll get her letter, if she can get a cat for a pet instead of an owl like finn and maia did and like??  they’ll obviously love her exactly as they always have but like they’re like lowkey worried she’ll be destroyed if she doesn’t get a letter

so they’re gearing up to sit down with her and talk to her about the possibility of her maybe not having magic and then one day she sneezes and sets the curtains on fire

so

finn!!!  is the first, the oldest, and he like straight up cries when his letter comes bc he’s so excited??  but he’s also dreading being away from his moms, being away from his sisters, but kara wraps him up in a big hug and tells him all about how scared and sad she was when she got her letter, how much she desperately didnt want to go but she went and it was amazing and he’s going to have a wonderful time, she knows it.  

the whole family goes to diagon alley and like the kiddos have been before, kara and lena take them p regularly for ice cream or for birthdays or hell just for funsies but now it’s Big and Important

his wand is alder, unyielding, with unicorn hair as the core.  twelve inches even and like.......when he matches with it he literally makes flowers grow in every nook and cranny of ollivanders and stella’s literally six but she’s so entirely entranced, so finn just sort of thinks flowers and then she’s got a little bloom behind her ear, braided into her hair and she’s grinning and maybe she finally stops crying at the thought of her big brother going off to school for the year

meanwhile maia’s pretending like she’s not at all upset about this, bc she’s excited for finn??  she is!!!  but he’s her best friend and she’s not ready to lose him for nine months out of the year, but by the time they make it to the owl shop, she’s grinning and talking about what type of owl she thinks finn ought to get, what type of owl she’ll get bc she’s not pleased with finn’s final choice (a small, sleek little barn owl that he stares at and finally decides to name spock bc he’s a nerd just like lena tbh)

so he goes!!!!!  and he is a hufflepuff!!!!!  a giant soft sweet hufflepuff!!!!!!!  kara sends him her old scarf from when she was in school when he gets sorted, sends a rlly embarrassing howler that’s basically her and lena just crying and saying they’re so proud of him, they love him so much, call home as soon as you can and tell us everything! and he’s blushing a little bit but his house is full of kids with similar howlers and they’re all blushing a little, all making bashful eye contact with one another

and jesus does he belong in hufflepuff like.  he is so happy, like he’s homesick for the first few weeks??  but it helps that lena does guest lectures for muggle studies on how magic and muggle technology can be combined, helps that he can see one of his moms every few weeks or so, helps that he has a smartphone bc this is the 21st century and he’s able to facetime his family a lot.  but once the homesickness passes, once he falls into the rhythm of hogwarts, he just begins to belong u know??  like he makes friends across the board, in every house, in every year, often volunteers down in the infirmary when there’s need

jesus he writes his sisters so many letters bc they’re still young enough that getting mail is like A Thing.  like??  he asks his moms for a camera, just so he can send maia a picture of the giant squid in the lake bc she’s so fascinated by it, just so he can send stella a series of photos of the quidditch matches his new friends bring him out to bc she watches the matches on tv and is so entranced

so his first year is so awesome and quite frankly so is his second year and then!!!!!!  it’s his third year and maia’s coming and he legit cannot wait, like he knows all the secret passages and shortcuts and which house elf (no longer kept, but actually employed by the school !!!  bc mcfuck off thats why) is the easiest to persuade for a midnight snack and he cant wait to share that all with maia

so maia!!!!  she gets her letter and she literally screams, scares the fuck out of her moms and siblings but she’s like FUCK YES WHERE’S MY WAND WHERE’S MY GIANT SCREECH OWL SOMEONE GET ME SOME CHOCOLATE FROGS TO CELEBRATE like she’s been counting down the days to hogwarts since finn got his letter

her wand!!!  is dogwood with dragon heartstring, rigid, twelve and a quarter inches and is a bit, well.  it looks like a branch with a handle tbh but its kind of wild??  like a thing of nature and the minute it hits maia’s hand, she’s enthralled and there’s like a hum in the air??  like something’s clicked into place and she’s READY like hand her some SPELLS lets get this MAGIC HAPPENING

and she gets her giant ass screech owl, names it gene simmons bc why not (genie for short, obviously), gets her books and her supplies and asks if they can stop by weasley’s to grab a few things and her moms set her with a look and kara’s like maia you can’t prank any of the professors and lena’s like on that subject, you can’t prank any of your housemates until at least second term and maia’s kind of like fiiiiinnneeee but definitely slips in a few things that are definitely prank-worthy and grins when her moms pointedly look in the other direction as theyre paying

so then she gets to hogwarts and she’s sitting under the sorting hat for a solid ten minutes as it hems and haws between sorting her into gryffindor or ravenclaw and she’s a little sad she’s not even being considered for finn’s house, but she also knows she’d never fit in there, not ever.  and this goes on for a bit bc maia’s wildly smart, and she loves learning but she’s also hard headed and reckless and intensely committed to the idea of justice, fairness, always steps up to a fight, never away.  so FINALLY the sorting hat calls out GRYFFINDOR and then maia’s swept up in the celebration, catches finn’s eye as he gives her the biggest proud big brother smile and a thumbs up (meanwhile he’s secretly facetiming kara and lena so they can see this and what, they’re totally not crying)

and kara, secret old lady that she is, tries to knit maia a gryffindor scarf but its kind of terrible so they also buy her one but (and maia will never admit this) she sleeps with the fucked up one kara made her, tucked up next to her ratty old teddy bear from when she was a baby.  

what??  it makes her feel safe, reminds her of home

so she doesnt have that same adjustment period as finn did??  like she’s not super sad for the first few weeks, its more protracted than that, lasts a little longer but doesnt hit as hard, and it’s a lot of help that finn’s there, pulls her over to eat at his table when she doesnt have friends to eat with the first few days, who invites her round to his common room to eat the sweets their moms have sent them and to catch up on tv on his laptop.  but mostly???  she loves hogwarts.  she LOVES it

she excels at potions, in the same way that finn excels at herbology, great at defense against the dark arts, and shit if she’s not even better dueling, like she gets an actual invitation to join the dueling club on parchment and everything

and like???  she’s on the choir and gets her friends to dare her to explore the forbidden forest and quite frankly she’s having the time of her life

and then little stella!!!!!  she gets her owl and like.  just stares at it for a bit, trying to believe its real and then lena’s coming downstairs and sees stella sitting in front of the big kitchen window and sees what she’s staring at and shes like !!!!!  stella!!!!  cmon sweetheart, lets go get that letter!!!!  and stella’s so???  happy????  like its been weird like she’s basically been an only child in the three years since maia went to hogwarts, been on her own and now she’ll be back with her siblings and she’s so so happy oh my god

she very nearly cries when she finds her wand bc she takes the longest of all the kiddos.  no wand feels right, feels like home and she’s nearly at her wits end with it, just about to say nevermind, take me home and then, well, she finds it.  its pine, supple, fourteen and a half inches long with a dragon heartstring; god, it looks a little ridiculous when ollivander hands it to her, almost like its too long for such a small girl but then she’s holding it, then a hush is falling over the room and then there’s just light, everywhere and it feels right???  feels good, grounded

and she picks out a little black kitten!!!  its the runt of the litter and maia kind of knocks her shoulder and says awwww just like you and their moms fix her with a look but stella’s smiling, nodding, saying that one, i want that one and that’s the end of that

what does she name the cat, you ask?  well

she names it carmilla bc she’s a giant baby lesbian ok, like hell she didnt sneak the novella from lena’s bookshelf and struggle through it only to watch the series and then develop an as of yet unnamed crush on carmilla

so she finally gets to hogwarts, kind of terrified (she cried a lot on the train, only sort of soothed by her siblings refusing to go sit with their friends, instead squishing into the same bench and playing sudoku with her) but finn’s grinning at her from the hufflepuff table and maia’s giving her this steady look like you got this from gryffindor and stella’s like???  ok.  i’ll be happy in either of those houses

but then the sorting hat barely touches her hair before its screaming SLYTHERIN and stella’s like um what. 

this isnt to say any of the kiddos have that assbackwards belief that slytherin = evil bc like??  lena was slytherin and yeah, there’s some shit tied up with that but she did truly have a decent time and aunt alex was slytherin too and she’s good, the greatest, like none of them have grown up with that messed up idea

but at the same time stella’s like um.  i am the softest bitch here.  what the fuck bc while she knows slytherins arent evil, she also knows her mom and aunt alex, knows there’s an edge to slytherins that she can’t hope to ever match???  like ambition??  cunning/??  bitch WHERE

but its done, she’s sorted and she’s kind of in shock and most of slytherin is as well, kind of looking at her and then looking back to her siblings, kind of like???  the fuck????  the danvers kids are like........the Softest.  why do we have this one????  and maia’s the first to holler her name, whoop and clap and stamp her feet and celebrate her baby sister getting sorted and then finn’s joining and then the whole of slytherin is doing the same and stella kind of smiles a little bc when she sits down, the girl next to her gives her this appraising look then sticks out her hand and says i’m ari, we’re friends now before shoving a plate of food at her

and lena’s like???  worried that stella doesnt want to be in slytherin but also incredibly proud and excited???  like shit, ok, all my weird trivia abt the slytherin dorms can finally come in handy and she digs out all her old stuff, packs it up with a weepy howler that’s literally her and kara just crying about how much they love and miss stella and stella literally wears that scarf basically every cold day for the rest of her life tbh

stella feels the homesickness more??  like a Lot more, bc she had a lot more one on one time with kara and lena after maia left, isnt used to not being around them in the slightest and she’s kind of inconsolable for a while after lena’s lectures, but maia sometimes sneaks her into the gryffindor dorms so she doesnt have to feel so alone at night and that helps a lot, helps that she finds some good friends p early on as well

OH SHIT it also helps that stella’s like.  terrifyingly good at transfiguration and charms, and, later, divination and legilimancy (heh u see what i did there).  probably also helps that she’s scary good at most curses and hexes like.........she’ll Fuck U Up.  maia fights with her fists but stella doesnt hesitate to use her wand.  like ppl are a lil tiny bit scared of her but she’s tiny and adorable and v sweet, sweet enough that most ppl get over their fear p quickly

so the kiddos do alright??  finn never joins the quidditch team even though kara played and he’s never quite as fond of flying as stella; in fact, its only stella that joins quidditch for anything longer than one season, as a chaser (stella MAY be a little bit of an adrenaline junkie and MAY have the time of her life dodging bludgers).  maia joins as a beater for one season when gryffindor’s normal beater came down with dragon pox and had to go home to recuperate but she quits at the end of the season bc she hits a bludger that ends up knocking stella off her broom and like.......Fuck That ya know

hmmmmmm what shenanigans do they get up to 

well finn’s like every professors favorite student like he’s there on time and prepared for class every day and god help every professor the day maia comes to hogwarts like they’re all expecting another mild mannered danvers kiddo (like??  even their moms were so well behaved.........that said.  it shouldnt be a surprise bc alex was hell on wheels) but then maia sweeps into her first class, probably trailing glitter or something equally dramatic and like.  professor snapper looks like he wants to die tbh.  like just drop dead

i dont blame him tbh, maia is also hell on wheels, like constantly calling teachers out when they fuck up and starting fights when some punk kid starts saying shit about blood traitors like hey.  fuck u buddy

so then after maia’s torn through, everyone’s a lil cautious with stella but she’s like........a small bunny or something.  a small bunny that could probably murder you with some tricky non-verbal magic but a small bunny nonetheless 

finn’s a prefect and eventually head boy!!!  like he’s so proud of that and his sisters roll their eyes but theyre proud of him too and maybe kara and lena just.........dont shut up about how their son is head boy, their eldest daughter got an o in potions, how their youngest was the first in her class to cast a patronus charm successfully like they’re B R I M M I N G with pride tbh

hmmmm what else what else

finn goes on to be a healer!!  one of the best at st. mungos, the one you’d want caring for you after you’ve been blasted with some curse or the other.  maia first works for the ministry, in their muggle science department, but then decides to train as an auror (like why not, she’s got the grades and the grit for it).  stella bounces around for a bit before eventually opening her own little shop in diagon alley.  it’s a bit of an odds and ends sort of shop, somewhere halfway between an antique shop and a toy store tbh

and maybe she helps out on some of maia’s raids/cases

its not like there’s anyone more qualified to help, she is one of the foremost experts in legilimancy

well kara “fight me” danvers and lena “come at me bro” luthor dont take kindly to anything or anyone threatening their kiddos, let’s just put that out there now like........they are such mama bears, it is ridiculous.  their kiddos are sometimes a lil embarrassed like god moms we have it under control but also they three hundred percent appreciate it, appreciate the security that comes in knowing their moms are always in their corner

SO finn and maia dont rlly get bullied??  finn does once (literally just once) but he handles it himself, is so disarmingly kind and literally befriends his bully.  to be fair, they’re like seven but still.  and maia??  is literally kind of terrifying like no one’s going to fucking mess with her

what im saying is that its stella that gets bullied and she gets bullied kind of a lot??  its through her entire life tbh, or at least her entire time in school and she hides a lot of it tbh??  like there’s stuff that her moms dont find out abt until later, until its too late for them to do anything abt it bc stella has this habit of just internalizing everything and repressing the shit out of it.  but they do know abt most of it and like..........u know that gif of kara throwing down her purse when lena’s getting arrested?  pls picture that when i tell u what happens bc that’s.......that’s what’s happening

but yeah, she’s small and soft and cries easily, is a little weird and v intense and like??  she doesnt benefit from the innate magnetism her siblings have a la kara.  like she’s v sweet and endearing in her own right, but stella is very much not of this world in a way thats entirely different from her siblings.  where maia and finn grow into gods, essentially, the best analogy for stella would probably be like a fae or smth??  smth obviously not of this world, enough so that it makes some ppl uncomfortable

but its elementary school and kids are kids and they dont have the words to explain why they dont like the littlest danvers, so they do the basic kid bullying like excluding stella from stuff and calling her names and at some point it escalates and she starts coming home with the knees or seat of her pants covered in dirt, ripped up palms from getting shoved or tripped and she has friends, she does, but they’re the kids that are also getting bullied so its not as if any of them are going to stick up for each other, they’re all just trying to get by

when kara and lena find out about it 

which they only do bc kara happens to be at the school to drop off maia’s book report that she left on the kitchen counter and decides to swing by the other kiddos to say hi for a minute and she happens to show up during stella’s recess, when the teachers are mediating an incident between stella and this girl and stella’s full sobbing, can hardly catch her breath and kara’s incredibly angry in that moment, like who did this, whose mom does she need to call

and the teachers spot her and one comes over and explains the situation, and like, to be clear, the teachers are kind of just learning abt this too???  like i got picked on a bit when i was little and those kids were always so good at figuring out the best moment to do whatever it was they wanted to do, always the second the teacher looked away, so theyre doing their best, only found out bc one of the teachers had a sobbing stella ask if she could go back to the classroom for the rest of recess

but basically this girl called stella a weirdo, said some shitty stuff abt stella being adopted, was basically the meanest you can be as a kid without like physically hurting stella, and they’re handling it and like kara kind of gets it, she does, they have protocol, but thats her kiddo crying and she’s like what exactly are you doing to handle it

and the teacher’s like well we’ll have a mediation with the school counselor and they’ll sign a contract but like.....and kara’s v rarely like this, she rlly is, she’s usually v understanding and gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, but she’s remembering all the times stella’s seemed like she didnt want to go to school, remembering all the times she’s come home covered in dirt, the way she’s been extra clingy recently and she’s like why does stella have to sign a contract and the teachers sort of......like well its to make sure that everyone behaves nicely towards one another and kara’s tempted to argue this point, but stella’s still sobbing and has just caught sight of her, is already running towards her, so instead she just asks politely that she and lena be included in the mediation and informs the teacher that she’ll be taking stella home early today

stella kind of falls asleep in the car, so kara takes the opportunity to call lena and lena’s like Ready 2 Fight tbh, she’s like okay so when are we meeting this kid’s mother to duel (this is paraphrased ofc) and kara’s like i dunno but do you have a meeting this afternoon?  stella’s really upset

technically lena has several meetings this afternoon, but she’s already cancelled abt half of them by this point in the conversation and she’s sure jess is well on her way to cancelling the rest for her, so she packs up and meets kara at home and stella wakes up on the couch, crawls out from her blanket burrito and sprawls across her moms laps and they let her pick the movie so they end up watching princess and the frog and moana and the aristocats while stella dozes, still redfaced from crying

later, lena and kara press her gently for details bc like they’ll fight anyone for her with zero info but information would probably make it a lil easier, so they get names and dates (as accurate as a seven year old can give) and they spend a lot of that afternoon just cuddling stella, asking v gently that she tell them when things like this happen bc they can’t make things better if they dont know whats happening, reminding her that they love her a whole lot, that everything that other girl said is just what a very small, very mean person says when they’re angry that you wont behave like them

so then theres the mediation and its turned more into a mediation between the parents bc this girl went home and told her parents that stella danvers lied, that she was just joking abt what she said but lena sees the immediate flash of disdain in the woman’s eyes when she walks in, kara sees the barely concealed sneer on the dad’s face and wow, yeah, okay, she sees where their daughter gets it

it boils down to this: stella is v much the victim and everyone knows it, so kara and lena throw their collective weight around a little (and they rarely do this, truly, they want their kiddos to learn to handle their own problems without relying on reputation or money or whatever) and get this girl switched into a different class and may or may not start a blood feud between their families

but just a small one 

as stella gets older, it’s different??  like she doesnt want her moms getting involved when she gets picked on (and lbr, its the same girl bullying her, just with different lackeys and lena grumbles under her breath abt a mini veronica sinclair every time stella comes home bearing a different story) but she does as they asked when she was little, she tells them about most of the stuff, usually keeps the really bad stuff quiet tho.  they do end up finding out abt most stuff, no small thanks to maia hearing abt a lot of shit (tbh she’s like.......the final stop in the rumor mill??  she hears it all and shuts that shit down) and reporting it right back to their moms

though sometimes she........handles it before it gets back to them

like this one time there were these boys that were harassing tiny freshmen stella (she went on a date with one of them and told him to fuck off when he tried to feel her up, so he spreads it around school that stella’s several words that make maia’s hands shake with anger), and like??  its not something to involve their moms in, considering they thought stella was at ari’s house when she went on the date and she’d get in some trouble for lying, so maia just quietly ruins their lives.  she punches one of them once, and they’re huge babies who talk a lot of shit and never expect to get called on it so she tells them with no uncertainty that they’ll be apologizing publicly and that if she catches them within ten yards of stella, she’ll make them wish they were never born

but mostly maia tells their moms bc she may not have ever gone through this shit, but she knows that just beating ppl up isnt the answer???  wont actually change anything.  so kara and lena hear abt most of what stella goes through and they keep up their steady reassurances, that stella’s beautiful, smart, different in the best way, that she doesnt have to be like anyone else, that they love her just the way she is while they also fight the pta president, this girl’s mom, three teachers that think stella just needs to toughen up (they actually get one of them........not fired, per se, but she doesnt return the next year), an unsympathetic counselor and just abt anyone else that looks at stella the wrong way

like u know how the kids rally around lena and sort of......diffuse the impact of whatever shit the public’s pulling???  the family does the same for stella

eventually it gets bad enough that kara and lena sit down with stella and ask if its even worth it for her, if she even wants to stay at the school or if she’d rather switch to a smaller school that’s a bit more......understanding??  and stella thinks abt it for a long time, and she appreciates the offer???  she rlly does, but she’s never seen her moms run from a fight and she’s not abt to run from this one
