So I watched the teaser trailer
Things I liked: It looks very, very pretty.
Things I didn’t like: First of all. I still think that Erivo, Bailey, Grande and Slater look too pass as college students. Sorry. But it’s the truth. They can pass for the time skip. But not the first act. Second of all. Where. The fuck. Was Doctor Dillamond? Third of all. I don’t know if it’s because this is her first major acting role in years or if it’s a “George Lucas telling Hayden to play it duller” type of deal. But Grande looks a little stiff and skittish as Glinda. Not exactly the social butterfly she’s supposed to be. Fourth of all. Not. Enough. Fiyero. C’mon people. You have one job. Do it properly. Don’t let us down like descendants did.
Things that I’m mostly (but not really) ambivalent about: The fact Warner Brothers still seem dead set on releasing it in two parts considering the trailer has Dorothy and Company. So either they’re lying through the teeth or the second part is going to be ridiculously short. Either way. I’m not impressed.
TL;DR: It likes very, very pretty. And that’s the kindest thing I can say about it.

In Defense of “Something Bad”
I feel like “Something Bad” gets a bad rep. No, plot driving songs aren’t the most fun to listen to out of context, but in terms of the story itself it’s one of the most important moments in the musical. The “Animals Should Be Seen And Not Heard” reveal never fails to knock the wind out of me, and it gives the context to the entire state of Oz and why Elphaba ends up taking the road she does.
Tumblr media
Something that also never fails to break my heart is Elphaba’s innocence in the song. “Someone’s got to tell The Wizard, he’ll make it right. That’s why we have a Wizard.” That naivety and optimism in her is so beautiful and sad. She has such confidence in The Wizard and, by extension, in fairness, justice, and good things happening to good people (and vice versa). When the rug gets ripped out from under her, her disillusionment makes it all the more heartbreaking. Her line later on before “Wonderful”: “no one believed in you more than I did” hits home every time.
Furthermore, Elphaba cares for and respects Doctor Dillamond and he trusts her with this knowledge in return. I see them as kindred spirits and fellow outsiders. He was influential enough to her that his tragic fate left a big scar, as noted in “No Good Deed” when she mentions his name.
I’ve seen some comments along the lines of "I hope the Wicked movie cuts Something Bad” which I couldn’t disagree with more strongly. Yeah, when I’m just in my car jamming to the soundtrack I usually skip this one, but like it or not this is one of the most important scenes in Wicked in terms of character insights and real world application. That is worth the less than two minutes the song takes.

After giving it some thought, I think Phone Guy could be a Seer of Doom, have you talked about Seers of Doom yet (or would it be seer of dooms? I don’t know how to pluralize classpects)
The Seer of Doom [symbols: eye, skull]
The Seer class has its basis in the classic seer trope. An example would be the Oracle of Delphi.
The Doom aspect’s main theme is caution. You can find its official description here.
A Seer of Doom is among those who explore energy to influence. This is the “classpect group” they belong to. Members include: the Mage, Seer, Heir, and Witch of Life/Doom. These classes are all opposites or inverses of each other that explore the Life/Doom dichotomy (energy to influence). A description of classpect groupings can be found here.
The Seer of Doom passively knows the Doom aspect. Passive classes are guided by others or act for the benefit of others. They are more likely to be kind, but less likely to stand up for themselves. Mages and Seers possess great knowledge of their aspect and everything it symbolizes. Simplified, the Seer of Doom is motivated by others to know caution.
In personality, the Seer of Doom hates being wrong and hates confrontation. Personality descriptions can be found here.
Their archetype is the Scholar Defender, defined by awareness and caution. Archetypes are explained here.
Their opposite is the Mage of Life, who actively knows growth.
Their inverse is the Witch of Life , who actively manipulates growth.
A classpect or “god tier” is an individual’s best self. All classpects go through a journey from unrealized, to struggle, to realized. When a character is unrealized, they neutrally exist as their inverse. On their struggle, they will wildly flip back and forth between their inverse and true classpect. In their worst moments they will act as their inverse, in their best their true classpect. When realized, they will stabilize as their true classpect. They will still have room to grow, but will become happier, more successful people.
This means that the Seer of Doom begins life motivated by themselves to manipulate growth. When their struggle arrives and they are at their worst, they will continue this behavior in negative extremes. However, when at their best, they will find purpose in instead knowing caution for others. When realized, they will stabilize and continue to know the Doom aspect passively, in a positive way.
They share their archetype with the Knight of Light, the Defender Scholar.
The Seer of Doom would quest on a planet similar to the Land of Flow [Seer] and Doom [Aspect]. An example would be the Land of Ferries and Specters. An explanation of planet naming conventions can be found here.
Two possible gods, or denizens, to reign over their planet would be Hades (God of the Underworld) or Persephone (Dual Goddess of Spring Growth and Decay). Other Doom aspect denizens can be found here.
When the Seer of Doom completes their planet quests and dies on their quest bed, they would rise to ascension on the wings of locusts (symbols of plague). A list of soul animals can be found here.
The characters that I have currently classpected as Seers of Doom are: Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Doctor Dillamond from Wicked, Orsino from Dragon Age, and Fiver from Watership Down.
If any of the links not connected to my blog break, the content can be found on my Google Drive.
Official Aspect Descriptions Personality Descriptions Aspect Denizens
Note: it would be Seers of Doom (think Knights of the Round Table).

Elphaba: You know, this conversation would be somewhat less absurd if I could understand you. Doctor Dillamond: *bleats* Elphaba: Really? I hadn’t thought of that.

Holiday Gifting Day 2
Day 2 of 5 features a few Wicked videos!
Idina Menzel (Elphaba), Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda), Norbert Leo Butz (Fiyero), Sean McCourt (u/s The Wizard), Carole Shelley (Madame Morrible), Michelle Federer (Nessarose), Randy Harrison (t/r Boq), William Youmans (Doctor Dillamond) July 18, 2004; Broadway || Notes: This is Kristin and Norbert's last show. It was also supposed to be Joel Grey's last show, but he was ill. Video is sound only for first 4 minutes. This is a great video and excellent sound. Includes the speech by Idina. Definitely the best of the early Wicked captures. Idina wiping tears from Kristin’s face is touching and priceless. This bootleg is a treasure.

Eden Espinosa, Megan Hilty, Derrick Williams, David Garrison, Carol Kane, Jenna Leigh Green, Robb Sapp, Sean McCourt May 28, 2006; Broadway || Notes: Megan Hilty's last show in the Broadway run! A very Megan-centric recording, good close-ups and follows the action very well.
Link
Jenna Leigh Green (u/s Elphaba), Kendra Kassebaum (Glinda) 2005; First National Tour Notes: 10mins of highlights include Defying Gravity, the catfight, and No Good Deed.
Link
Jenna Leigh Green (u/s Elphaba), Katie Adams (u/s Glinda) 2005 (2); First National Tour || Notes: Very minimal highlights. Flying portion of Defying Gravity only. Still a nice and rare video of Jenna as Elphaba! Though not great quality.

I still like my fancast better
I’ve got nothing against Erivo, Bailey and Grande. But the fact remains is. They don’t look like college students. I mean. Look at dear Evan Hansen. I like Ben Platt. But he was too old to convincingly play a high school student on film. Same goes for Erivo, Bailey and Grande. Theatre is an entirely different medium that almost completely lacks closeups.
And yes. Before anyone says anything. I’m more than aware that Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson and Mitchell Hope are all pushing thirty. But they can still pass for younger. And in my opinion. Erivo, Bailey and Grande can’t. I’m not saying they’re not talented, I’ve only seen Bailey in five children and It, Broadchurch and doctor who but I know he was in a Sondheim musical and I’ve heard Erivo sing in Pinocchio and Grande sing in Victorious. I’m saying that in my own opinion they don’t look like the college student Fiyeraba and Glinda are at the start. But as always. I’m prepared to change my mind in the event they manage to pull it off
On another far, far more petty note. You CAN make it into one full film. You CAN segue from Defying Gravity to Thank Goodness. Just zoom out as Elphaba belts out the final note of Defying Gravity, fade to white, or green if you’d prefer, and zoom back in on Fiyero and Glinda’s engagement party in Thank Goodness. It CAN be done. So don’t be lazy. Don’t make us wait like the Simpsons did. Don’t try to be deathly hallows or mockingjay. If les miserables can do it. So can you. So please. Don’t. Be. Lazy.
TL;DR: I still like my fancast better but I’m prepared to be wrong. And I fully believe the filmmakers are being completely and utterly fucking lazy by splitting the film up into two parts and making us all wait a year between instalments. And no. You will never be able to change my mind on this last one. It’s already made up

I know this is not likely to happen but allow me to describe my dream Idina/Kristin cameo in the wicked movie
during One Short Day Elphaba and Glinda are exploring the city and pass by a pair of Emerald City women strolling together (enjoying their own day), the women look over their shoulder and tip their EC glasses down to look at Elphaba and Glinda as if recognizing them and it's Idina and Kristin. They then move along laughing to continue on their way.
just something that's been caught in my head for awhile

POV: Doctor Dillamond teaching the trolley problem
Dr Dillamond: These five people all need organ transplants or they will die. Miss Glinda’s perfectly healthy. Miss Elphaba, do you wanna slice her open and use her organs to save the five sick people?
Glinda: Elph-Elphie, think about this. I’m your hottest frien-no, Fiyero.
Glinda: I’m your nicest fr-no, Boq.
Glinda: I’M YOUR FRIEND!
