thank you to @sentientsky for the inspiration
oh, all the stars they will never see together
time lost between bodies an arm's reach away
as the walls come down.

scratching an itch with this one, the combined hyperfixations and special interests have taken over my brain and life.

not the fourteenth doctor throwing the word LOVE around like it's free when my boy ten is forever living here

9 fell in love with life again because of Rose. Then on Satellite 5 he thought he saw her die before his eyes, got her back, then almost watched her burn from the inside out because she loved him enough to sacrifice her life for him. He then died for her.
Of COURSE Ten is afraid of love, and specifically loving Rose. He's held what he thought was her ashes in his hand, and his whole existence he's known that one day he might lead her to her death for real.
Nine fell in love with his pink and yellow human.
Ten was born in love with her, and that terrified him.

i think the most devastating bit about doomsday is that ten had never had to live without rose before.
ten was born in front of rose. he existed as a physical manifestation of nine's love for her: the embodiment of all the wounds she had tended to without knowing. rose could not save the doctor from hating himself, but she let him love again. she laughed and listened to music and got chips with him, and "run for your life" became "thank you. i need you. please stay with me." to live without her, to live with the knowledge that he could never ever see her again would have been utterly SHATTERING.

the doctor just. knows rose so well it hurts me. the hologram message he left as nine in bad wolf-- like he PLANNED that shit out ahead of time. he KNEW rose would be stubborn and not want to leave him. he KNEW hed have to force her away in the tardis to keep her safe if push ever came to shove. and he knew shed argue with him. and that shed move closer, and that he could turn and end up looking right at her. and in doomsday. he grabbed both magnaclamps.

Remember when Billie Piper poured her entire heart out in delivering the "I love you" line with a massive emphasis on the "lo" like she's saying something that doesn't need to be said because everyone already knows. I don't think I've heard a reiteration that has her type of enunciation. The way she's delivering the vowels like she's saying something that's heavier and more meaningful than all the stars in the galaxy. Like she's saying something forbidden. Like she's saying something she knows she can only say now, right now, right this minute. Otherwise, she would never get the chance again. Like something that's destroying her from the inside and bringing it out in the open would be the final blow. Like saying it would kill her, but not saying it would have the same effect. It's been bottled up for so long. So long. That it's clawing out of her throat and drawing blood along the way. Like the words themselves making their way through and resounding in the wind are weakening her muscles and crumbling her already vulnerable and fragile heart.
And do you also remember how we, as the audience, never hear the Doctor say those words back? Not once. Even though it's obvious in every interaction, in every look they share, in every minute they spend together. It doesn't need saying... so powerful is their love that it physically can't be put into words. We don't hear it because the word "love" is too weak to do their story justice. The word we never hear from him... But what we do get to hear from her has the power to shatter entire universes.
