More profound when you consider that Doctors Without Borders rarely makes political statements.
In #UNSC mtg on Middle East, @MSF
SG Christopher Lockyear says: "Israeli forces have attacked our convoys, detained our staff, bulldozed our vehicles, hospitals have been bombed and raided. And now for a second time, one of our staff shelters has been hit. This pattern of attacks is either intentional or indicative of reckless incompetence. Our colleagues in #Gaza are fearful that as I speak to you today, they will be punished tomorrow."
He adds: "The humanitarian response in Gaza today is an illusion. A convenient illusion that perpetuates a narrative that this war is being waged in line with international laws. Calls for humanitarian assistance have echoed across this chamber. Yet in Gaza we have less and less every day, less space, less medicine, less food, less water, less safety."
Imane Maarifi, a French North African nurse, who was helping in the European hospital in Gaza for 15 days and just came back said that adults are making makeshift fireworks (like small ones not actual fireworks) and sometimes they reunite the children and use the fake fireworks and tell them that the bomb noises their hear are just children using fireworks somewhere else to try and reassure the kids when they are too scared…
She said that they have to make very difficult choices giving the exemple of a child who had a bullet wound. The bullet was still inside so he needed surgery and they couldn’t give him a tiny bit of morphine to calm the pain while he was waiting because if they did it meant doing the surgery without morphine so they kept the morphine for his surgery…
She also explained how it’s going to be worst for the next team (PalMed and Doctors without borders) cause the bombs are getting closer and closer each day…
Edit: I’m adding a video of part of her testimony with English subtitles.
Please sign this petition to tell @DanaherCorp that their test prices are too much. Why should someone have to spend ALL their money just to get a test? Medicine should not be a luxury. #TimeFor5 #PeopleOverProfits
Doctors Without Borders has been present in a lot of horrific conflict zones, and I’m wondering how what you’re dealing with now is similar or different from other places you have experienced?
It’s different. And yes, I have worked in conflict zones. And they’re always very nasty. But this is a particularly brutal thing because of the huge number of civilian casualties. And they can’t escape it. They can’t move. They’re told to displace down south. But are we talking about just reducing the area from forty-five kilometres to twenty kilometres in length and trying to put two million people in there, which is . . . It’s just an extraordinary situation. And no, I haven’t seen it.
They haven’t stopped bombing. They’re still bombing. They’ve got troops in there with tanks. And it’s just consistent. It’s well documented. We are seeing it all over the world in all the newspapers and television. So it’s like people know exactly what’s happening. And yet it doesn’t stop. I haven’t seen that before.
Where else have you been stationed?
I’ve been in Congo, I’ve been in Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire. Gosh. Many. Do you need more?
No. There has been a lot of large-scale violence against civilians in the past two decades in many of these places. So you saying that this is still different is notable.
It’s notable in the sense that to have such a volume of people—civilians—that can’t move very easily. And they’re being bombed and shot at. And I just haven’t seen that type of violence. We are also talking about a population that’s around seventy per cent women and children. And so the figures that we’ve seen around mortality are at more than ten thousand deaths. But with the Ministry of Health now being really decimated, it’s very difficult for them even to track it. But then you know that with ten thousand deaths, that seventy per cent are probably women and children, according to the Ministry of Health. And the number of wounded is very, very high. And there’s also people under the rubble, and we can’t get them out. So the figures are just astounding.
image ID: the destiel breaking news meme, but after cas says "i love you", dean replies:
cas, danaher corporation and it’s subsidiary company cepheid are still charging tuberculosis (TB) patients in low- and middle-income countries $10–$20 to access quick and accurate testing despite the fact that cepheid’s genexpert machine tests were developed with at least $252 million in taxpayer money and doctors without borders found out that the tests only cost $3–$4.50 to produce. TB is a major cause of death and disability, not to mention that the inaccessibility of these tests leads to the spread of drug resistant TB around the globe.

After the success of last years birthday project, where we raised an incredible $2,683 for abortion rights we are back again with another birthday fundraising project!
This year we are raising funds that will go directly to doctors without borders / Médecins Sans Frontières - a charity that we know Pedro himself is very passionate about.
Donations and shares are very greatly appreciated as we aim to hit our first goal of $490! The fundraiser is live now and will remain live until Pedro’s birthday on the 2nd April.
I am co-chairing this fundraiser with my partner in kind @leslie-lyman again this year - please feel free to reach out to either of us if you have any questions!
