Artemis will disassemble and clean a fountain pen with the same level of intensity as Butler disassembling and cleaning one of his guns.

#artemis fowl #Artemis will just automatically include the upkeep of Butler's his mother's Juliet's and Holly's fountain pens in the upkeep of his own #Holly and Juliet tend not to use their pens often (which they have because Artemis gifted them pens) so Artemis will help whenever they vis #visit. Then with Butler it is largely due to the man not having the habit of building 'frivolous' rituals of care into his day so Artemis w #will care for the pens as Butler does (at the end of it all) adore the devices #with Angeline I feel Artemis is just so wholly dedicated to that kind of small act of care when it comes to his mother #(thinking of him composing a unique ringtone for her calls)#I think Fowl Sr is more of a ballpoint pen or a pencil fellow and Artemis will sometimes include his father in the hobby by cleaning #and repairing pens in his father's study while the man works (so he will have the experience of being included through the upkeep)#Tim does appreciate when Artemis shows off some of the special/exclusive inks he purchases #he finds the beauty of the ink a much more accessible aspect of the hobby #that diane ackerman quote about crying in a museum while looking at a piece of yellow sulfur and thinking about how lucky we are to live on #a planet of a natural yellow that is so marvelously yellow #Artemis will do ink tests (when you get a new ink and experiment with it on good quality paper) when his father is in the room for this rea #reason

another year, still drawing people doing things to each other. you might or might not know this but i started working as a doctor this year and i'm happy/proud it hasn't kept me from still drawing my silly little fictional guys. it's not much but it's honest work.

Random question! Do you have a favourite moment in the book?

First of all, thank you so much!! oh my gosh that is so kind TToTT I'm really happy you liked them!! The pilgrims all being dumb together is my favorite thing hhaha As to your question, oh man, absolutely. Its more a bunch of moments all from one chapter. My favorite chapter of the book goes something like this: And I've said this before but should say again, it has been several years since I read the novel cover to cover, so I may not remember all the details just right, but as I recall it, my favorite chapter is the one immediately following the story of the White Bone Devil, which is one of the most famous chapters. But to me, the story of the White Bone Devil is nothing compared to their ridiculous conflict with Lord Yellow Robe, Kui Mulang.

After Monkey is banished by Tripitaka, he goes back to Mt Huaguo, leaving Pigsy and Sandy to look after the priest. Which goes about as well as you'd think. Pigsy says he'll go find food, then just takes a nap, Sandy I think goes looking for him, and when they both don't come back for a while, Tripitaka goes looking for them and ends up walking DIRECTLY into this demon's lair.

When Sandy and Pigsy learn of the priest's capture, they attempt to stage a rescue. During the middle of the fight, Pigsy thinks they're going to lose so tells Sandy to cover him, he has to go take as shit IMMEDIATELY. Runs into the bushes, and escapes all the while Sandy is captured and yelling at him for being a fat, useless, coward (rude.. but in this case very true lol)

Pigsy, now alone and unsure what to do, flies to Mt Huaguo to find Monkey and ask him to come back and save everyone. He tells him everything that's happened, and that Trip has been captured and will surely die if he doesn't help. Even after hearing all that, Monkey refuses. He's still upset that Trip dismissed him and thinks dying and reincarnating ought to teach the brat a lesson! Pigsy gives up at first, skulking off and mumbling to himself about what a flea-ridden bastard Monkey is... this is overheard by some of Monkey's minions who deliver the news to the king himself. Monkey orders Pigsy to be brought back for execution LOL Thinking on his feet, Pigsy tries to redirect Monkey's ire, and thinks one of my favorite lines in the novel. "A warrior is more likely to answer a challenge than an invitation".

He tells Monkey that it wasn't him... This demon, Lord Yellow Robe, he's the one who called Monkey a weak, pathetic, cowardly fool.

And this makes Monkey ENRAGED

Monkey springs into action, flying to confront this demon. Screaming about all the nasty things this demon said about him while Lord Yellow Robe has no idea who the hell this monkey is or why he's so pissed off.

And boy, does Monkey go HARD on this guy. After he beats him up and along with a bunch of his soldiers, the demon retreats into his lair and Monkey is left out. He can't find a way to get to him, so instead takes out his anger on Kui Mulang's wounded but still living soldiers, killing them all. He meets back up with Pigsy and Sandy and tells them his brilliant idea to draw the demon back out.

By taking his half-human children and killing them outside the gates, hoping that will enrage their father enough to come back out. Even his companions think he's malding a little hard

This has gone on awhile so to cut the rest short, Monkey is eventually "victorious". I think I recall a subplot about Trip being turned into a tiger too, and there was this captured princess subplot too.

But this is my fave chapter lol. Basically "Monkey Accidentally Saves The Day By Avenging An Imagined Insult To Himself"

Peak Monkey behavior, absolute mad lad, everyone is an idiot. Its just a mess and I love it.

this is probably too far out but im really really curious if they’re gonna somehow develop morty and diane’s (lacking) grandma-grandson relationship in some way next season

i know they probably won’t, morty’s really not the character that they love to dive into, but it would be SO interesting. morty’s always felt pretty disconnected from rick, never able to relate to him and frankly the character he sees as most similar to him is jerry (who is, a HORRIBLE role model)

but i bring this up because i feel like morty could be motivated in some way, out of resentment for rick, to see diane as some mysterious figure who he WISH he knew. someone who he truly believes he could relate to. once again, it’s far out, and in fear no mort he never even really SPOKE to diane, but honestly im pretty desperate for some morty character development that isn’t between him and rick. they already did a deep dive in his biggest fears but it still relates to rick, and i need him to actually be developed as a character OUTSIDE of rick like how rick himself is.

if it’s not diane, some other character who he can view as a role model out of desperate need for feeling a connection. some character we haven’t met, jessica, evil morty, space beth, i dunno, just SOMEONE.

another thing id like them to address is morty’s neurodivergence, although it’s not specified it is stated he has a disability (and yeah yeah, i know pilots aren’t canon, but it’s still heavily implied) of some sort, either adhd or autism (im betting on autism since him and rick are meant to be kind of reflections of each others, different sides of the same coin). they’ve had it mentioned indirectly a few times, think the planetina episode “I’ve never fit in anywhere”. i really do feel like it’d be a great episode to address rick and morty’s absolute oppositeness, rick being unsympathetic morty being hypersympathetic, rick being introverted but overall socially competent, morty being extroverted but overall socially incompetent, rick being traditionally intelligent and morty being emotionally intelligent, stuff like that.

i mean, it’s been addressed in a way but not as a full episode, and i feel like morty looking for a new person to try and connect to, desperate to find someone who doesn’t hurt him and he can actually feel like a person around, and rick not having a person to lean on whether they like it or not causing him to kind of break a bit too. something something something

When Soap retires from the army, he ends up getting a job coaching a little kids' gaelic football team and he takes this shit so fucking seriously.

He coaches the under 10s team, which means that it's still mixed boys and girls, but he gets those kids so enthusiastic about everything. The local community around the club he trains for absolutely love him because A, he's really good with all the kids and B, its extremely funny to see a large man yell after little kids and be so invested in this sport.

He does swear at the kids, though, like all the time. He will call the opposing team wee shites and will call his own team little pricks. He's been told again and again that no, John, you can't call these kids little pussies but he doesn't listen. It encourages them and makes them laugh.

He had an assistant once, a teenager who took on the role for work placement for about a week and by the end of it she just looked at him and went "How the fuck do you do this everyday??" And Soap laughed in her face and said something like, "These kids are so much better than the cadets I used to train," and thats how everyone finds out that Soap uses the same techniques on these 9 year olds that he did on army cadets and suddenly it makes sense why his team all salute him in a straight line before a match.
