"why am i here again?"
your eye twitched, letting out a deep sigh. "for the millionth time, you don't need to be here, you can also just go home, we're going back in a few hours after all," you didn't even wait for a response from the setter before downing the glass tilted towards your mouth.
there was nothing wrong with atsumu not wanting to be there with everyone, it was more of the fact that he was acting like he actually had something better to do.
"but seriously do you have anything better to do?" you asked, your voice dubious of any response he would've given you.
considering who you were talking to you wouldn't be too shocked by any response he would've given you. "i'm pretty sure you never really do anything."
"i do things!" he shot back defensively.
his words did little to convince you and the other six sitting around the table. you and shugo exchanged glances with each other from the corner of your eyes before looking back at the older miya with dubious looks on your faces.
it was clear to everyone else that he was just trying to not seem like he didn't have anything better to do than go out drinking for some reason.
you stared blankly at him, blinking slowly, waiting a few more seconds to pass before opening your mouth to speak once again.
"um... are you sure about that atsumu?"
"of course i am!"
sakusa looked away as he muttered to himself while making sure he was loud enough to make atsumu hear his words. "if you're going to lie you might as well do a better job of it."
"i'm not lyin'!" his desperate attempts to try and make you believe that he of all people was being honest was starting to look more depressing than anything. "since when have i lied?"
"pfft-" shion looked quickly as he covered his mouth with a hand. he didn't dare to look back as he tried his best to keep his laughter in.
those words were more than enough to make him laugh. the idea of atsumu of all people saying he doesn't lie was certainly something that could make anyone laugh.
atsumu looked at the libero in disbelief, a disgruntled look on his face having taken more than enough offense from the older male. "the heck's so hard to believe 'bout me being honest?"
"ahaha," you wiped a tear from your eye as you laughter began to die out. "you can't be serious... wait, are ya being serious or something?" you finished, sounding rather taken aback.
he looked away almost immediately after those words left your lips. "did ya really have to laugh in my face..."
"i don't want to be rude or anything like that," you drew out your words as you tilted your head to the side. "but do you actually have any other friends to hang out with?"
the genuine curiosity in your voice only made things even worse. "of course i have other friends!"
bokuto blinked slowly as he looked at the setter. "didn't you complain to me for an entire hour last night because you were jealous that inunaki was going out some friends?"
"wait a second, are you being serious?" shion said holding back laughter while he wore a teasing grin. "i didn't think you were so cute
almost immediately he stood up, his face burning almost as much as his hand that slammed down on the wooden surface. "shut yer trap already!"
"come on atsumu there's no need to get embarassed," you lazily smiled as you waved a hand his way. "you should be a lot more mature," you teased as you leaned into the palms of your hands.
"you of all people should really not be judging someone on their maturity." shugo deadpanned.
"huh? what is that supposed to mean?"
"whatever," atsumu huffed out as he sat back down. "i have plenty of friends-"
he really made it too easy.
"friends made through volleyball don't count atsu."
"hngh!"
yup, that definitely got him.
it was almost as if he liked getting called out by you with how easy he made it for you. at this point, you were sure that even hinata would be able to say something about him.
"'samu-"
you narrowed your eyes at him, glaring daggers into him with your cold stare. "your literal brother does not count as a friend atsumu."
the setter slouched back into his seat dejectedly as you looked away from with a sigh. "i swear it's almost like he likes getting bullied."
shugo's shoulders dropped as he turned his head to look at you, a tired look dressing his face. "so you're admitting that you bully atsumu?"
"i don't think i ever  denied it."
safe to say, no one went without atsumu slander that night.
