It had been a week since you had discovered Alastor's ears and he had let you touch them for the first time. Sneaking on him a few times to caress or play with them, maybe even a little tug or kiss to them when none of the others were looking. The relationship between you two also changed to something different, you couldn't exactly put a name to it, but it was more than friends, but definitely less than lovers. It confused you. Alastor confused you. Once he is nice to you, cooks you dinner, and lets you play with his ears while he writes a new script, the next time he rather distances himself from you, makes jokes here and there as if he himself didn't know what to do nor how to act.
The others also had picked up on the change between you two, Angel was teasing you about it a lot, Husker just warned you to be careful, Niffty was herself like always and Charlie was super happy about how close you two seemed to have gotten now.
So now to your new mission at hand, round two of your self-proclaimed game. Figure out if Alastor has a tail and if yes, get around to touch it! But this time it seemed to be harder than before, Alastor had his guard up a lot around you now, even when he let you play with his ears. Every time your hand wanders away from his ears down to try and peak under his coat, his hand either guides yours back up to his head or he entirely gets up and leaves, making sure you cannot find out if he has a fluffy little tail.
So now you were sitting at the bar, head resting on the counter as Husker slid your favorite drink over to you. "No look yet huh sweets? Was surprised you even got around to touching his ears without injuries." Angel now sat down beside you, softly patting your back as you let out a tired groan. "I just don't get it! I mean he saw that in the it wasn't that bad when I touched his ears! So why is it so bad now if I figure out if he has a tail too!" Pouting, you sit up a bit now taking a sip from your glass. "Maybe he doesn't have one, none of us ever saw one at least. Or maybe if he has one it's a different feeling for him than his ears?" Husker was cleaning a glass now as he spoke to you. Maybe he was right but.. you really wanted to know if he had a cute matching tail. Eyes going around the foyer now as you notice Alastor making his way up the stairs.
"Al! Wait up!" Jumping down from the barstool to follow him up the stairs, he waited for you on the stairs before walking up beside you. Eyes glancing over to him, he looked calm as always, his signature smile adorning his face, staff clutched in one hand as he walked alongside you. "How can I help you today dear?" Looking over at him now, you simply followed him to where he was going. "Are you doing a broadcast today? May I listen again?" Raising an eyebrow slightly Alastor looks over to you, nodding in agreement as he leads you to his radio tower. Over the last week, you had listened to his broadcast live two times already, which made you happy that he allowed you to join him. Opening the door for you, you enter first as you immediately take a seat at the table, Alastor had put up a second chair for you. Still, you noticed how his eyes had a glimmer of suspicion at how you suddenly wanted to listen in today.
Waiting for him to start the broadcast, your head was leaning on your hand as you watched Alastor with a smile. Suddenly an idea came into your head, trying to suppress the grin that was threatening to grow on your face. Alastor was focused on his broadcast, talking about something you weren't even listening to anymore. Reaching your hand over now, your fingertips softly graze his ears, as Alastor lets out a surprised yet quiet yelp, before turning his head to you with a warning glare. Returning his gaze with a smirk now, as you stand up from your seat and slowly walk over to him, he was glaring at you now. You were so close to fucking up, but this was a chance. Reaching your hand out to the back of his coat to pull it up. Quickly the > On Air < sign switched up, as Alastor grabbed your wrist in a rather right grip. Turning his head to you now, his antlers had grown in size, a red X on his forehead, and eyes turned to dials. You definitely fucked up now.
"D̷̢͙̟̼̘̊̒̑͑͝ë̸͇͍͓̲͇͂̾̓͝a̴͙̻̞̫̞̾̑̈́͑̕r̸̖͎̼̳͍̀̉̌̉̒ ̶̜͉̦͔̒̋̌̒̕ͅw̵̛̲̭̰̼͒̑̎͝ͅh̴͚̮̬̜̔̉͗̀̅ͅa̴̭͖͍̩̣͐̀̇͂̿ţ̷̛̪̣̥͓̓̆̕͠ ̴̢͓͓͙̯̂̀͋̀͘w̵̘̣̫͚͛̋͛̊͠ͅë̴̢̡̛̥̦͇́̄̉̈ř̶͓̜̗̻̓̊̐͘ͅẽ̷̮̻͈͕͎̓̌͐̈ ̵̠̝̫̺̲̑́̍̈́̈́ÿ̴̳̩͍͎̙́̌́̿̈́o̶̰̭͎͈̣̅͛͑̌͘u̶̢̝̥̞̪͋́̒̎͝r̶ ̵͕͉̫̻̤̎̐̋̾͘į̴͕͈̮̅̎̈́̀̌ͅn̸̠̳̮̤̻͆͛̔̎͋t̸̖̻̲̘̭̐̎̂̏̕e̵̞͎͎̭̗̓̍̓̉̈́n̶̬͈͎̤͉̈́̈́̈́̇̾ţ̶̱͓̥̲̅̔͋̀̚i̶̡̲͕̤̩̒̏͐̈́͝ǒ̷̗̰̯̩̻́̔̄́n̸̡̧̞̩̥̔͆̎͆̅s̵̪̣̱͔̎͒́̽͠ͅ ̷̝͍͈̥͌͂̿̏͘ͅr̶̹͚̦͉̞̈́̈́͂̋̀i̶̡̨̛͉͇͇̾͐͊̍g̸̨̛͉͎̰̖͋̒͒̓h̴̜̫͕̪͊͊̈́͝͠ͅt̷͉̳̩̰̜͗̈́̓̽̒ ̴̨̬̱̰̠̒͂̍́̏n̸̬͍̬̣̗̿̃̅́͑ǫ̸̠̰̈̊͌͗̚͜͜w̴̧̜̺̖̓́̎͗͆ͅ?̴̠̖̯̤͚̓̀̎̂͆"
Gulping once, you try to pull your arm back from his grip, which just makes him tighten it. Hissing lowly, you squeeze your eyes shut, it was slowly stinging a bit from how tight his grip was. "Al.. You're hurting me!" Alastor finally turned back to himself, letting go of your red wrist now, a print of his fingers visible as you cradled your hand against your chest. "I'm going to leave for now.." Head down as you hurriedly leave the room, closing the door behind you as you dart for your room, ignoring Angel's calls who just walked past you. Throwing yourself on your bed now, you looked at your wrist scared now. He had never used his demon form for you, there was no way of denying that he had scared you. Closing your eyes to push away the tears that were slowly building up in your eyes, as your consciousness drifts away.
"Dear, wake up." A hand on your shoulder was softly shaking you awake, lifting your head to take in your surroundings before meeting Alastor's eyes. Sitting up quickly, you scoot a bit away from him as you watch him with wide eyes. "Alastor..! What are you doing in my room?" Watching him now, as he takes a seat on the edge of your bed, making sure to not make you any more uncomfortable by getting too close to you. "I'm sorry about back there, I lost it a bit, I shouldn't have." Despite smiling, you noticed that Alastor was genuinely apologizing to you. "I'm sorry, I crossed a line there, I used your trust in me listening to your broadcast live, I'm truly sorry." Laying your hand near his own carefully, letting him decide if he wants to be touched right now. Looking down, he softly takes your hand, as he presses a kiss against the red fingerprints he had left behind. His eyes were closed right now as his lips linger a second longer than they usually do. "I'll make it up to you, I promise." Raising to his feet now, he gave you a soft smile, before leaving you stunned in your room.
Laying back down against your pillows, your gaze was on the ceiling as your cheeks became a soft shade of red. What was he thinking? Turning onto your side now as you hug your pillow against your chest, looking to where Alastor sat just a few minutes prior.
The next day arrives, as you make your way down the stairs to the others. Charlie was right now explaining something to Angel and Husker, hyper as always. Vaggie was simply sitting on one of the couches with a book right now, while Alastor was nowhere to be seen. "Hey Vaggie, have you seen Alastor?" Leaning over the back of the couch now so the girl could see you as she looks over to you. "He went out rather early today, saying something about Overlords meeting and visiting a friend in Cannibal Town." Raising your eyebrows slightly at that, friend in Cannibal Town? Definitely Rosie. He probably decided to tag along with her a bit after the meeting, as she was also an Overlord. Thanking Vaggie, you go over to the other three to let Vaggie read her book in peace.
"Okay and then when Heaven agrees we could- Oh good morning!" Waving to you immediately now as Charlie noticed you coming over. Greeting them all with a smile and good morning now before Charlie starts to ramble on about her plans. It was nice seeing such a hyper and happy girl in hell, it was definitely a change to how people normally were down here.
"By the way sweets, would you mind tagging along to the city today? I wanted to go visit some clothing stores you would definitely like!" Angel laid his hand on your shoulder now as he asked you, before even thinking you agreed. It had been a while since you had last been to the part of Pentagram City where all the clothing stores were located. Besides Alastor isn't here today to try any of your attempts to see his tail nor to play with his ears. After quickly getting changed, Angel led you to the stores he was talking about. And he sure was right, you found so many good clothes to your liking in many different styles. One thing hell didn't lack was good fashion, probably thanks to Velvette from the Vees.
Leaving the store now with a lot of bags in hand, Angel decided to pull you to his favorite > cheap yet delicious < restaurant as he called it. While looking around a bit, you couldn't help but notice a certain red-haired demon walking down the streets, alongside Rosie, as their arms were hooked together, laughing. You knew they were simply good old friends, yet you couldn't do anything about this weird feeling bubbling up in your stomach. Reaching your hand out, you softly tug on Angel's shirt, head hung low. "What's it, sweets? Ya suddenly don't seem so good." His hand softly raised your chin now to look at you, noticing your pained expression. "Are ya hurt?" Taking a good look at you to make sure you weren't visibly hurt anywhere. Raising your head again, your eyes on the two other demons, Angel's eyes follow yours before letting out a sight.
"I know they're only friends but.. I feel weird seeing them I don't even know why myself!" The bag you were holding dropped to the ground, before hiding your face in your hands. "Sweets, if you ask me that sounds as if ya're jealous.." Angel's hand softly patting your head now as you raise your head, eyes meeting his. "But.. That would mean.. And he would never reciprocate.." Tears were building up in your eyes, before you knew it Angel pulled you into a comforting hug, softly patting your head. "It's going to be okay sweets." Staying there for a good minute or two, before you calmed down again. What you didn't see was a certain dial eyes watching you, as Angel had his arms around you and your body against his chest.
Deciding to head back to the hotel for now, Angel said he would take you to the restaurant another time. Back at the hotel you for now decided to head back to your room for a little rest. The shopping bag is thrown onto a chair before flopping down on your bed. A sigh leaves your lips. The last few days really weren't the best for you and were slowly wearing you down.
"Say dear, I thought we had a deal of you not touching others~" A radio static voice suddenly sounded through your room, sitting up you looked around frantically, eyes stopping on a dark corner of your room. Red eyes watching you, a shadow figure beside them grinning at you. Before you could know it, your body was pressed to the bed with Alastor on top of you. "W-What do you mean!? Angel was simply comforting me! Besides you were also all over Rosie!" Thrashing around now, as you try to push Alastor off of you, but he was simply too strong for you. "Oh, so you're jealous sweetheart? Was that payback then?" Alastor head was lowered as he whispered those words into your ear making your eyes grow wide. "He was comforting me because I was crying! Which I by the way was because of you!" Staring into your eyes now, Alastor was at a loss for words. You were crying? Because of him on top of that? Before he knew it, he watched your eyes fill with tears again daring to flow over. Now he had fucked up this time.. Again.
"D-Don't cry! Dearest I'm sorry." Scooting off of you now, he sits beside you not really knowing what to do, he never had to deal with someone besides Niffty crying. And Charlie, but that was a different story. Your hands rubbing over your eyes now, trying to get rid of the tears. Before you knew it, the culprit of your tears grabbed your hand, leading it to his head. Alastor wasn't great with words to comfort you, but this was his way of trying to comfort you after screwing up, which you deeply appreciated. Looking up at him now, eyes red from crying, as your hand starts to softly rub over his ears. "I meet up with Rosie to ask her for advice on what to get you as an apology for last time." Pulling out a little box from his coat now, he hands it to you. Sitting up, you take the red box from his hands, opening it slowly. Inside was a gold necklace with a red pendant in a tear shape. "It's beautiful.." You were at a loss for words right now, you didn't think he would get you something like this as an apology. "Let me put it on you dearest, turn around." Moving yourself now that your back is to him, you softly move any hair out of the way so he can put the necklace around your neck. Hand reaching down as you take the pendant between your fingers. "Thank-" Your words were interrupted by a soft kiss being pressed to your neck, but as you turned around, Alastor was gone, and only caught a glimpse of his shadow disappearing. Hand reaching to the place you had felt him kiss. Did you only imagine that? No, he definitely kissed your neck.
The next day you wanted to ask Alastor about it, but he was nowhere to be seen, as if he was avoiding you, which made you a little bit sad. Did he regret it?
Till now you also were not able to accomplish your victory in this little game. Making yourself question if you were ever going to figure out if he had a little deer tail. Turning around now, you caught a glimpse of red hair disappearing, making you dart right after him. So he truly was avoiding you! Before he could close his door, you put your foot between the door and the doorframe. "Open the door, I won't go away!" It took almost a whole minute for him to open the door, entering the room, the door is closed behind you. Crossing your arms in front of your chest now, you turn around to face Alastor now. "Are you avoiding me?" Static radio error. "Of course not dear! Why should I?" He was obviously more than nervous to be talking to you right now. "Oh, I don't know, maybe because since yesterday you've been running away from me and not shown your face once?" Looking at him skeptically now, he tried to look composed as always with his smile, but you noticed how his smile was slightly strained and his hand clenched just a bit tighter around his staff. "If this is about the kiss and you regret it just say it please, I won't be mad at you." Your eyes were avoiding his now. Oh if only you knew it was the complete opposite.
"Listen dear, it's not that.. It's.. How do I say, rather the opposite? I have been feeling rather drawn to you, wanting to get closer but.. I don't quite know how to handle these emotions." For once Alastor looked nervous, something you had never truly seen on him, he seemed so unsure. Holding out your hand, waiting for him to perhaps take it, which he did. Eyes locked on your hands, as he was softly playing with your fingers, slowly linking them together. "Listen it's okay, take as much time as you need to figure this out okay?" A soft smile was on your lips now, trying to reassure and calm him, but it had quite the opposite effect on him.
"May I kiss you?" Blurting those words out without even thinking about it, both of you were staring at each other with blown eyes now. You question yourself if you heard correctly and Alastor questions his sanity by asking you this, was he completely going crazy now? "If you want to, I allow you to do anything you want, I trust you." Now this surprised him, he indeed wanted to try this but.. he had never kissed anyone before. Not while alive, and certainly not while dead. Slowly his hand lays on your cheek as he pulls you closer to him, angling your head so you are looking at him. Your hands softly grab onto the front of his coat, eyes closed to give him full control. Alastor could either take his time or pull away entirely, it was all up to him, you let him go at his own pace.
And before he knew it, he was leaning down to capture your lips in a soft kiss. It felt different than he had imagined, it felt warm and comforting. It was a simple soft peck, nothing too spectacular, but for both of you, it was something special. When he pulled away again and you looked up into his eyes, you noticed movement behind him, your eyes lowering and noticing something moving under the backside of his coat. Eyes glancing with interest now, Alastor's eyes following yours to what you were looking at, a sigh leaving his lips. Before you knew it, Alastor was shrugging his coat off, his shadow hanging it somewhere in the room. And there it was, a fluffy deer tail, that was right now softly swishing from side to side, it was adorable. Alastor was a sight right now. His ears were pointed towards you, a blush over the bridge of his nose while his tail swished from side to side.
Reaching out your hand to touch his tail with sparking eyes, his hand stops yours as he watches you. "Once. It's different than my ears, one pat and that's it darling." Nodding in agreement, he turns around a bit as your hand softly pats over his tail once. It was soft just like his ears. Looking up with a smile now, his head was turned to the front, but his ears were turned to your direction, which looked super adorable. "Well since I was only allowed to pet your tail once, I would like to pat your ears again!" Smiling up at him innocently now, he exactly knew how this would end.
And he was correct, he was now lying on his bed with you, his head on your stomach as you were contentedly playing with his ears. Even though it would probably take a while till both of you knew how to call this relationship, you were more than happy that your one hand was busy patting his ears, and the other one was softly held by the red-haired man. You could get used to this.

Naora moved swiftly from one tree branch to another and glanced around. Something doesn't feel right. she thought, tugging on her hood. She heard the faint sound of rustling and whirled, but to her disappointment, nothing new greeted the eye, but the dark of the night.
"Hey Naora!"
"Holy crap!" she stumbled forward, clawing at the wood, one foot in the air. She slowly turned around. "Tyler." she said in a tone of disgust, rolling her eyes. "You know I could've died if I fell, right?"
Tyler shoved his hands in his pockets and smirked. "But you didn't, right?" he patted her shoulder. "Anyways, it's my shift now to watch over if any humans intrude. Ya know, with my night vision thing,"
"Wow, so cool. Night vision thing." Naora muttered sarcastically.
"It's better than having a tail. I mean, what does it even do? whap people in the face?" Tyler said, squatting down and pointing at the furred tail curled behind her left leg, peeking out her dress. She whipped it at his eye. "Agh!" he shrieked, holding his face. "I think I'm blind!"
"You did say it could whap people in the face, and it did."
"Ahh, whatever. One blind eye is probably better than having to poke a hole in your underwear so your tail fits out."
"Don't go there," Naora snorted. "I'm out. Have fun on your shift, night vision guy."
"Right. G'night, tail girl."
she gave him a slight shove and climbed down the branches, then hopped down at the very last step. "Naora," she heard. "What's wrong, Ki?" she asked. A girl a few inches shorter than her with unusual yellowish skin and curled, orange hair and fierce eyes with slit pupils stared up at her. "We've had several suspicions of a human wandering out here." she said seriously, crossing her arms. "You and me were assigned to find it."
"s'that so?" Naora rested her fingers on the handle of her dagger. "Let's hunt it down, then."
"I have no idea why I had been assigned with you, you who holds no strength, no intelligence." Ki sighed. "All you do is yada yada around here with your face-whapping tail, and yes. I saw that."
"Hey, atleast I have dagger skills."
"Whatever. For now, go to sleep to get ready for tomorrow."
"Noted." Naora passed by Ki and into a campsite-like place. She seated herself on a fallen log, decorated with plants growing out of it and watched the little girl Maria flap her colorful wings, reaching up into the sky and raising her arm up as if touching the stars and giggling, Roger chow down steak, his wolf ears twitching furiously at every little sound Maria makes, and everyone else. Terry and Cherry, the rabbit siblings began quarreling about whether lava was a liquid. Klara stepped forward, pushing them apart from each other. "Now, now, you two." she said with a gentle voice, smiling softly. "war makes it worse."
Naora sighed, sinking into her seat and closed her eyes, falling into a dreamless sleep.
[ 2 ]
"Naora! Naora! Ki! Roger! Everyone, wake up!"
Naora drowsily opened one eye, then another. It was still dark, the sky like a black canvas with tiny dots of white. Someone shook her. She looked up. "What do you want, Ty...?" she yawned. Ki was up, too, concern etched on her face. "Yes. What is the problem?"
Roger snorted awake. The bunny siblings were curled up, snoring. Klara was still asleep. But someone was missing...
"Maria's missing!"
Naora sat up. "What?"
"Weren't you on shift!?" Ki gasped, stumbling to her feet. Klara immediately opened her eyes as if she hadn't just been snoring lightly. Roger gritted his teeth. "Yeah. Weren't you on shift?" he growled. Tyler laughed nervously. "Well you see..." he shrugged. "I may have dozed off a little..."
"You're a half-cat, Tyler, you're supposed to be hyper energetic at night or something!" Klara yelled. Terry shuffled in his sleep, his bob tail twitching slightly. Ki buried her face in her hands. "This is why I don't allow people like you to go on shift..."
Naora's tail shivered. "Geez, stop stereotyping me!" defended Tyler, crossing his arms. "Look, we're wasting time. If we wanna save Maria from some killer human thing, we gotta be fast."
"Got a point there." Naora muttered. Without another word, Ki grabbed her leather bag and ran off. Klara picked the two little siblings up, still asleep, and followed behind her. Roger followed, too. Naora glanced at Tyler and shook her head. "You messed up real badly." she whispered, catching up with the others. "It must be that stupid human that wandered off here." Ki growled, balling her hands into fists. "I'll absolutely kill every single one of their kind."
"How do we know where we're going?" mumbled Tyler into Naora's ear. She harrumphed and walked faster to get away from him. He frowned. Even her, he thought. She pulled on her hood then looked down. "Wait!" she said. They all froze. She bent down and touched the ground, then rubbed her index finger with her thumb. "Fairy dust..." she gasped. "Maria was here!"
Ki joined Naora, squatting down next to her. She squinted at the ground hard. "She's right. There's a trail."
They all exchanged glances, and as if sharing the same mind, hurried to follow the trail of sparkling fairy dust. "Guys? what if this is a trap, though...?" Klara said, her breath shaky from carrying two children (still not awake) and running. Ki placed her hands on her hips. "If it is, we can still outsmart those dumb humans."
"Hey... guys? the trail stops..." Tyler walked up to a tree bark and pressed his palm on the ground. "The trail stops here-"
a net exploded from the leaves, caging Tyler. His eyes went wide. "Tyler!" screamed Naora, rushing to him. Ki grabbed her wrist. "Imbecile. It will get both of you trapped." she scolded, gesturing to another net hung sneakily in the leaves.
Klara slumped down, breathing hard, placing the two children down on the ground. "How do they sleep for so long?" she muttered. Roger's ears perked up, and he sniffed the air. "Do you guys 'ear that?"
"Their snoring?" Klara muttered, staring at Terry.
"Hear what, Roger?" Ki let go of Naora's wrist. Roger continued to prance around, nose in the air. "It's like... a little kid cryin'... and it smells like..."
he gasped. "Maria!"
"Is no one gonna help me here?" Tyler complained, clawing on the net. Klara patted Cherry on the head and chased over Roger along with Ki. Tyler gave a hopeful look to Naora. She rolled her eyes and sighed. "How'm I supposed to get you down, o night vision guy?"
"Your dagger, of course!"
"And how am I supposed to get up there?"
"It's simple, really..."
[ 3 ]
"Oh no, no, no, no, no, not at all am I gonna risk Cherry and Terry's life for yours."
"C'mon, tail-girl."
"I'm not gonna do that." Naora crossed her arms and glanced at the two children, still huddled up on the ground. Light was peaking out from the sky, it was turning five in the morning. The others had to find Maria. Tyler stuck his bottom lip out. "Pretty please with a cherry on top?" he pleaded.
She couldn't help but snicker. "you look seriously stupid right now."
"I could look stupid more often for you if you helped me down."
Okay, that crossed her mind the wrong way. She felt her face heat up and looked away. "Fine, whatever."
she gently shook Terry and Cherry awake. "Hey, you guys."
They slowly opened their eyes, stretching, yawning. "Where are we?" Cherry asked. Naora definitely didn't want to explain the whole thing. "Er... Tyler's stuck in a net and I uh..." she fiddled with some of her own stray hair. "I need you to go climb up there with my dagger and slice the net. It's okay if that's too hard for you."
Terry picked himself up along with Cherry, who crossed her arms. "Too hard?" she mused. "I don't think so."
Without a moment to spare, they both climbed up, fast as a flash, and was already on top. "Wait- you forgot the dagger-" Naora called. They ignored her and bared their fangs, biting into the string. Soon, the net was held up by one single thread, on the urge of breaking. Terry sank his teeth into it, and The net fell apart, and Tyler fell out. "Agh!" he rubbed his head, but then saw the look of awe on Naora's face and grinned. "See?"
"how did they not get caught by the net?"
"They're too fast to get caught."
"Remind me again that they're rabbit children."
Terry and Cherry dusted themselves when they got off. "Can you tell us where we are now?" they asked in unison.
Naora stiffened. "Oh... uh..."
. . .
Ki chewed her bottom lip. "Roger, are you sure you know where-"
"Quiet down- will ya? I'm tryna focus!"
Klara sighed. "Do you guys think Terry and Cherry'll be safe with-"
"Those two nuisances, Tyler and Naora? nah, course not." Roger groused. "Will you stop interrupting everybody?" Ki barked.
 "Yeah, yeah, sure, bossy."
"Talk about bossy..." Ki whispered under her breath. She heard a faint sound of weeping. Roger's ears twitched. "She's somewhere near." he said, pushing through a bush. Klara spat on the ground, rubbing her tongue off. "I think I swallowed an ant..." she mumbled. Noises of screaming got louder to the point Roger had to pop his fingers in his sensitive ears. "Yup. Definitely Maria."
Ki's eyes sharpened. She gestured forward. "I see her."
They glanced at each other and ran. "Maria!" Klara gasped, staggering forward to the girl. Fresh cuts and bruises were everywhere on her body. A tight knotted rope dug into her wrists, and her legs were tied together, wings sliced. She gasped and sputtered, whined but couldn't form words. "What happened?" Ki asked, trying to untie her, trying not to be harsh, trying not to hurt her. Roger's ears quivered. Then his eyes grew wide. He tackled Ki, pulling her back. "Watch out!" he yelled. An arrow flew in the air where Ki had been. "I can manage by myself." Ki said as she pushed herself off him. Klara looked around in panic. "Are we being targeted?" she squeaked. Roger nodded. "We gotta go-"
"But what about Maria?" Klara said. "We just leave her here? like some maniacs?"
Ki's jaw tightened. "If we don't go, we'll-" she cut herself short. "Watch out Klara!"
Klara jerked her head southwards in search for any danger. An arrow came from the opposite direction. Roger lunged forward, but missed the arrow. It pierced through Klara's right arm, a clean shot. She howled in pain, clutching her shoulder. Maria screamed out. Ki gasped. Roger stared. Klara turned to Maria, breathing unsteady, and kept her fingers stumbling to untie the complicated knot as if she had not been shot. "Klara!" Ki said, pushing herself down, barely missing a flying arrow. "We can't leave a little girl in here... yet..." Klara breathed. Roger staggered backwards, an arrow merely missing his head. "We've got to GO!" he urged. "We'll all die!"
"No," Klara said, finally getting the rope off the little girl's wrists, pulling off the cloth tying her legs together. "Run."
Ki slung her arm around Klara and supported her up. Klara shook her head, sinking back down. "We can make it with you!" Ki insisted. Roger sighed and picked up Klara, set her on his back and gestured to Maria. "Minion girl, you take care of her."
Ki made an offended noise. "Minion? How?" she took the little girl by her waist and made an effort to not touch any of the scars.
"'cause you're yellow." he shrugged. "And short."
"..." Ki glared at him before running off, dodging arrows. A woman peeked out from the shadows and trees, barely in sight. Only her brown hair pulled up in a ponytail was seen, her face, however, was masked. Her arm was poised, ready to shoot another arrow. It was aimed at Roger. "Roger, I see the human. It's about to shoot you," Ki warned, glancing at the little girl in her arms. "You guys... are gonna die..." Klara muttered in Roger's ear as he swerved for a right. "I do love myself a motivational message." Roger grunted, struggling to keep Klara on his back. The human slowly vanished from view. "Where're we running to?" Ki asked.
"Hey, I'm following you!" Roger said. "How'm I supposed to know where you're running to?"
Ki rolled her eyes. "Seriously, I don't know where we're headed."
"You've lived in this forest the longest. How'd you not know your surroundings?"
"Well, I never did try exploring out here."
A blinding light shot through the trees. Roger shielded his eyes. "Where- where are we?"
Ki brought her long-nailed hand up and tore through the keep out tape, studying the new surroundings. Ki stumbled back. "Oh no, no. We can't be here..."
Roger glanced at her terrified look. "What? why?"
"Because..."
[ 4 ]
Tyler didn't know why she was still mad. Naora kept avoiding him. Terry and Cherry seemed to recognize the tension and kept quiet the whole walk. It was just silence, before Tyler broke it. "Why're you still mad at me?" Tyler sputtered. Naora stopped walking, but didn't meet his gaze. "You put Maria's life on the line. Who knows? maybe all of 'em are dead by now 'cause of you." she said glumly.
Tyler frowned. "But when I was stuck in the net, you were completely fine."
"What? you want me to get you stuck in another net?"
"Then would you forgive me?"
Naora looked away. "It shouldn't be me you're saying sorry to." her tail was lowered down. Her gaze averted to the sky. "I really hope they're okay."
. . .
"This is not okay."
"I didn't know angels looked so angelic..."
"What?"
Roger slipped Klara down his back and pressed his sweaty palm against her forehead. "She's going to die." he said, in a-matter-of-fact voice. "I didn't know that," Ki grumbled. A lake laid before them, green instead of clear. The smell of grass was strong, almost unbearable. Gloomy leaves hung down tree's thin barks. Ki laid Maria down on the grass. She coughed into her fist, blood spilling out. It dripped down her chin and on her stained and ripped clothing. "Klara's seein' angels," Roger said, with what seemed like genuine concern laced in his words, for the first time.
He touched the arrows stabbed in her arm, then lightly attempted to pull. She yelled out in pain, grabbing his wrist. "Don't." she whispered.
Roger's ears pricked up, and suddenly, he cupped Klara's mouth, and pressed his finger to his lips. Ki picked up on this, pupils dilating gradually.

☕️ Diego from Gran Hotel
Charming! Absolutely beautiful. Nothing ever turned me on as much as his beard. Really! I hope lcdp runners grow a brain cell and make Pedro grow it. It'll do wonders for the rate. Also, I don't know what all this talk about him being evil. It's so obvious that he's only a poor misunderstood soul. Maybe his father was the gardener of another hotel and his dream was to own an hotel himself, do people ever think about that? Maybe Diego is only haunted by his family's dream? And I also don't see why shouldn't he get it, he runs it pretty well. He's the best candidate for it. If he kills some people here and there to make sure it runs smoothly, so what about it? We all had to make decisions like that at some point in our lives, cut him some slack!

The Vessel [ Pt. 10 ]
Pairing: Geralt of Rivia x Fem! Reader
Summary: You go back to Cintra, back in your kingdom and back amongst the people that love you, and your two companions go back with you.
Warnings: Idek?
A/N- Although I decided to have Ciri in my story, Ciri actually does not have any powers in this one, and the reader does. For some reason, Pavetta's bloodline could not have the elder blood in it.
[My Masterlist] [My Witcher Masterlist - Read the other parts here!]

Calanthe had a tight lipped smile etched to her face; this celebration was making her feel claustrophobic and the crackling cords of the lute gave her a headache. On one side sat her husband, the King of Cintra, Eist Tuirseach of Skellige and on her other side sat her granddaughter, the blonde haired blue eyed beauty, Cirilla.
"Spare me the festivities, I can't wait to retire and sleep off all night," she muttered under her breath, her fake smile still plastered on her face, as she acknowledged the lords that bowed their heads in her direction in greeting.
"Calanthe, love, it's her anniversary, you can atleast pretend to have a good time," Eist smiled, his fingers curling around the goblet in front of him as he lifted it and brought it up to his lips, taking a sip.
"Would someone even bother asking me if I like it?" Cirilla scowled, rolling her eyes. If there was one thing she couldn't do, was pretend, unlike her grandmother and her husband, who could give a 1000 watt smile on even the gravest of days.
Eist scoffed, but was met by a glare from his wife, as she turned towards Ciri with a stern look on her face, but not one with hatred, "Ciri, when will you learn?"
"Oh stop it grandmother, not again."
Calanthe let out a deep shaky breath pummeling from deep within her lungs as she sat back, trying to get more comfortable when she spotted one of her soldiers speaking to Mousesack by the gate. She squinted her eyes, bringing her index to her chin as she leaned forward, letting her chin be supported by it. Mousesack's expressions screamed at her that the discussion was not a common one; something was up.
Mousesack craned his neck to his side, discreetly and looked at her, her eyebrow instinctively shooting upwards in inquisitiveness and he blinked, slowly striding towards him until he was leaning next to her and whispering something into the Queen's ears; Eist and Ciri watching them with their eyebrows raised.
Tumblr media
"We need to see Calanthe," Geralt said to one of the guards at the massive gates for the fifth time, and the guard asked him for the fifth time back what their purpose for visit was.
Geralt pursed his lips shut, and turned towards you. He looked at you in the eye, and you sighed. This wasn't working. There was no way on earth they were going to let you go in unless you told them what the truth was, but you couldn't risk it. What if they didn't believe you?
"Guards, back away. Let them in. The Queen wants to see the three of them." Mousesack's voice rang from behind them and they turned around immediately, moving out of the way until you came face to face with the a man with greying long hair, although way shorter than Geralt's. He had a pleasant, kind look to him but still, he had caution in his eyes.
"Follow me," He said, his voice not wavering a bit.
You turned towards Geralt who was stiff, and alert too, his eyes scanning the man in suspicion. When you didn't follow him, the man turned and his expressions softened, "I am Mousesack, Queen Calanthe's confidant. I mean you no harm."
"Geralt, I think we should?" You asked, and he blinked in approval, his lips clenched together.
The three of you entered the palace, slowly following the man in front of you. The hallways were elegant and beautifully lit, and a faint sound of a lute filled the hallway. You slowly turned towards Jaskier, and saw him in a daze just like you had expected him to be.
"Jaskier, I'm sorry about your lute," you sighed, and he looked away for a bit, in sadness, his hands held together in front of him.
"You know? Lovers may come and go, but she was forever loyal to me."
"I'm sure you'll find a new one," Geralt grumbled next to you and you gasped, elbowing him in his side.
"Geralt, can you please not?"
He grumbled something again, but you chose not to entertain the Witcher. Instead you linked your hand with Jaskier's, sliding it against his arm until you were holding it and walking, leaning against him.
"I don't think Yennefer will take my revenge on your lute."
Geralt snorted next to you, and Jaskier threw his arms in the air, dramatically and you giggled teasingly.
"I thought you were on my side, [Y/N]. But I see that your priorities have changed."
Jaskier wiggled his brows dramatically and flush crept on your cheeks, your insides flaring up once again. Your heart almost felt like it stopped, and you couldn't bring yourself to take a look at the brooding man walking next to you. Finally, you mustered enough courage to look at him, but when you did, you realized that he was actually grinning like a Cheshire cat.
"You too?" You growled at him and he stopped smiling.
"Jaskier isn't always wrong."
"Hey! I am NEVER wrong—"
"Geralt, I supported you. You're siding with him now?"
The three of you were talking at the exact same time and Mousesack abruptly stopped, turning towards you and all three of you stopped bickering, looking at him with embarassment on your faces.
"We all thought you were dead, Princess."
You looked at him in disbelief; he knew?
"My apologies, I didn't meant to startle you. I'm, uh, a druid. I know things, and I can feel powers. The minute you stepped into Cintra, I felt your presence," you blinked, "and Tissaia de Vries might have told me you would come?" He smiled at you.
"Does she know?" You asked, your voice coming out weaker— as though something was lodged to your throat.
He smiled, and nodded, "She does. She has been waiting to see you ever since the sorceress paid her a visit and told her you were alive."
As Mousesack stopped talking, you looked up to see that you were in a richly furnished chamber but it wasn't the chamber that surprised you, it was the woman that sat nervously by the edge of the king sized bed, her fingers nervously toying with each other. Another young girl stood in a corner, excitement glimmering in her eyes.
"Your Majesty, she is here," Mousesack announced.
Calanthe looked up, her eyes brimming with tears. She glanced at you from top to bottom as though she was trying to fit your memory into her mind. She blinked, ignoring how thick chunks of tears now flew from her eyes and she stood up, almost trembling like a leaf.
"Come here, sweet child?"
You didn't know what came over you. Maybe, it was the fact that you didn't ever experience the love of a mother. Or maybe, you were going to be a mother yourself, so you knew what a mother's role was. You ran towards her, and she almost choked on a smile as you ran into her arms, burying your face into her chest as her fingers began stroking your hair.
"I can't believe it's you, sweet child. I never thought..I'd get to hold you in my arms. Look at you. You're.. grown up," you pulled back, and her palm came to rest against your cheek, her thumb stroking it gently.
"What's your name? I never.. got to name you."
"It's [Y/N], mother."
Ciri awkwardly walked up to her grandmother's side, her fingers clenching the Queen's garment, her blue eyes looked at you.
You looked down at her and raised an eyebrow.
"Meet Ciri, [Y/N]. Your niece."
Tumblr media
You sat back, trying to get more comfortable in the utterly soft chair on the Queen's table; your back hurt like a bitch.
Calanthe nodded at one of the lords who took her hand and plastered a kiss against her knuckles and she gave a fake smile before turning to you and muttered, "The child giving you trouble?" Her words ended with a glare towards the Witcher and you bit your lip.
"I'm fine, mother."
"I can't believe you brought that wretched bastard with you, [Y/N]. Men like those, treating our bodies like we are nothing but a fucking commodity."
She took a sip of ale, her eyes not leaving Geralt who stood in the farther end of the hall, drinking ale from a pitcher himself. Jaskier had taken the lute from the bard, borrowed it actually, and was now entertaining the guests.
"Mother, he isn't.. I mean.. I know this all doesn't paint the right picture, but Geralt has been kind to me."
"Kind? You would call a man who used your body just for the sake of having a child? And look where it got you—" She hissed.
"Mother—"
"Calanthe, my love," Eist intervened, and you swallowed the lump forming inside your throat, your eyes fixed on the Witcher.
"Fine but he needs to leave. Before I ask him to leave myself," Calanthe growled.
Your heart sank at this, and to make this worse, Geralt was right there in front of your eyes and your heart aches to go talk to him but you didn't want to anger your mother, especially when you had met her for the first time in your life.
Tumblr media
You sat up in bed, drenched in your own sweat, your chest heaving up and down. You had seen the sorceress in your nightmare and she was smirking, holding your baby in her hands. What made it worse was the fact that Geralt was next to her, holding her by her waist, as he bent down to kiss the forehead of his child.
You swiped your palm over your face as reality sank back in and you realized that it was just a nightmare— you were in Cintra. You were safe.
You laid back down in bed, closing your eyes so you could fall back into a deep slumber yet again, only hoping that the sorceress wouldn't torture you in your dreams again.
For a few minutes, you kept tossing and turning in bed, your body churning in discomfort. You couldn't sleep.
You sat up once again, rubbing your belly, trying to comfort your unborn baby, until something struck your mind.
You decided to explore the palace, for this was your first time you had actually been to one, and ironically, this was your home. You slid into your robe, tying it securely around your blossoming waist as you stepped out of the chambers, holding just a candlestick to help you look around.
You wandered aimlessly through the palace confines for a few minutes, exploring.
It was only after fifteen minutes or so, you decided to check out the other tower. Only, you had no idea that the other tower was the guest tower where Geralt and Jaskier were staying the night.
Geralt frowned, squinting his eyes as he threw back his head, downing the contents of the pitcher in one go. He looked at Jaskier, who had a blonde woman curled against his lap, his fingers fondling her thigh. Shaking his head, the Witcher slammed the pitcher onto the table and pushed himself up.
He pushed his way through the overly drunk guests at the celebration, his only goal now to reach his own chambers for the night so he could get a peaceful sleep before the dawn came the next morning.
The hallways were quiet this side of the palace, and Geralt could practically hear the sound of his feet as he climbed the staircase towards his room.
Strangely, his eyes fell on you— you were sitting on the topmost staircase, staring at your hands, a look of exhaustion draped over your face.
"[Y/N].." Your name shot out of his lips like a prayer and he saw you look up, a look of relief reflecting in your eyes.
"Are you okay?"
The concern in his voice was like a sharp knife cutting through your heart, hurting just the right amount. You blinked, giving him the weakest of your smiles as you nodded and stood up. You were now on the top most step, and Geralt was on a step below you, so the man was just the same height as yours.
His eyes were golden, a fire lurking within his irises, his eyes although hollow and devoid of any emotion, for others, you could see a flicker in them, that made a warmth tingle inside of you somewhere.
"Couldn't sleep.. "
"Is it the baby?" He frowned, still looking at you, an inexplicable look on his face. It was only then that you felt something. When you lowered your eyes, you saw his palm pressed to your stomach.
It felt oddly intimate. It was just the two of you, in that hallway, and Geralt had his warm palm protectively draped over your belly— and as though the baby already knew who his father was, you felt a flip in your stomach.
"No, the baby is okay."
Relief filled him, and he gave you a flicker of a Ile before he placed his other hand on your arm and pushed you slightly towards the wall to step up the topmost stair, so he could tower over you.
"She haunts my dreams," you blurted out, although you didn't know why you said it and Geralt looked thoughtful for a bit.
"Mine too."
"In what way?"
Despite the crispness of the weather in Cintra, you could feel your blood running cold and your toes begin to tingle, not in a good way. You could feel the jealousy rise inside of you, and your nostrils flared.
"I see her as a monster."
"Not your lover?" You mumbled.
Geralt took a step closer, and you instinctively took a step backward, until your back was against the wall. The proximity between you two was almost that of a finger length, but you didn't mind.
He shook his head as he took a deep breath.
He smelled of ale and the forest— of nature.
"You're safe now. And so is our baby."
"Until when?"
It was all rainbows and sunshine, until thick black clouds fled up the sky, hiding the sun and it was all dark.
"I—" Geralt began speaking, but almost immediately, he fell quiet, and you blinked, waiting for him to speak but no words came out of his throat.
"What?" You asked.
"Do you regret this?"
The question pulled you off guard as you were least expecting it. Your eyes went from widened to confused, as you tilted you head slightly and placed your palm against your side, parallel to the wall and using it to support yourself.
Did you regret it?
"Which one? Having you use my body to find yourself a motive in life?" You asked, bitterly.
"Meeting me I mean."
"We didn't exactly meet in the best circumstances, Geralt," you chuckled nervously, bringing your palm to your front, your fingers hooking to his locket, as your fingers began toying with it, your eyes fixed on his, "the thing I remember, you fucked me on the Great Mount."
Geralt grunted under his breath, but he still leaned closer, letting his face dip, ever so slightly so that his lips were inclined to yours, aching to be pressed to them. He parted his lips, letting his tongue swipe over his bottom lip, as your fingers began trailing upwards, his locket now forgotten.
Geralt closed his eyes, the instant he felt your fingers run against his chest up to his neck, as you suddenly grabbed a fistful of his collar and pulled him closer, your noses now touching, and your chests heaving out of control.
"Tell me, Witcher, do Witchers dream?" You suddenly asked, your hand flying up to your head as you absentmindedly tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear.
Geralt's lips twitched, and his eyebrows creased slightly, as though he was thinking hard. Finally, his face moved slightly, just a light bob, signalling a nod.
"What do you dream of? What did you dream of most recently?"
He blinked, tilting his head, "I saw you. You were in the woods."
You were captivated by him; frozen on spot, and he didn't even touch you, or hold you. It was like there was an imaginary force binding him to you, drawing the two of you together.
"There was a woman long time back, I met her in Blaviken."
You bit your lip hard, a taste of metal flooding your tastebuds. Why was this making you jealous?
"I think I should go." You stepped away abruptly, and immediately took a step around, your hand flying to your heart, as you began fisting your fabric into a ball, your cheeks still heated up. Your steps were fast, and you didn't stop until you were at the end of the hallway when Geralt's voice rang out behind you, and you paused, just for a second but didn't turn around, only to let his words sink in. "Her name was Renfri. And she said something to me— The girl in the woods will be with you always. She is your destiny."
You gasped at the realization, his words slowly sinking into you, settling into everywhere in your body— your mind, your senses, your heart. You didn't look back, and instead you began running, towards the confines of your chambers, for you knew if you didn't, you wouldn't be able to stop yourself from falling into his arms.

Hamilton!firstprince au
(cross posted from twitter with a couple of edits b/c i couldn’t make them there)
in which i loosely follow the plot of hamilton except its firstprince and alex and henry get a happy ending. inspired by the striking similarities i noted between our favorite first son and his namesake hamilton in the broadway musical
the similarities:
both have/will have a political career
both often talk too much/don't mind their words
both began as lawyers
both extremely motivated but overwork themselves (“nonstop” +  “you have a fire under ur ass for no good goddamn reason)
both had some sort of sex scandal that impacted their career plans
hamilton speculated to be bi
the story
the setup of the colonized country alex lives in is similar to the usa vs england but fictional bc alexs race would have limited his opportunities in america's early years
idk names for either of these countries so its now the colony and the motherland
alex + his mom live alone in the poorer southern part of the colony
but his dad + june live elsewhere + they dont rly contact e/o (tho they do know of e/o’s existence)
june becomes a journalist who writes important pieces abt independence
when alex comes of age his mom reveals she used to be part of the rebellion
thats actually why his dad left to raise june bc it was too dangerous
his parents met in the rebellion but oscar left first for june while ellen stayed until she realized she was pregnant w alex
ellen still has some rebel contacts but she mostly sheltered alex to keep him safe
now tho alex decides to join too + the rebellion sends him up north to the capital for an education bc he's smart + they need people like that
he attends uni + meets like-minded people there
tension grows btwn the colony in the motherland, and alex + his friends write/speak out often and this goes on throughout their schooling
they’re also troublemakers in general too, much to the annoyance of the motherland soldiers stationed in the capital to prevent rebellion
henry is one of those soldiers
he's from a noble family in the motherland but was sent overseas as the sort of black sheep of the family due to his sexuality
the idea was to let him be in charge in the colony + reestablish a reputation there w/o embarrassing the main family back home
henry hates his job + feels bad for the colonists but still does what he's told anyway
alex + fhis riends like to bug motherland soldiers for fun
nothing  enough to put their lives in danger too much (although yes that too esp when drunk)
henry becomes a favorite target of alex's bc he's awfully stoic + statue like + on the way to uni - overall fun to antagonize
there's also the fact that alex is angry at all the soldiers for oppressing the colony + holding up the motherland monarchs tyranny (but also alex just is the type to fight literally everything and anything)
it becomes almost a daily ritual for them to argue
henry wonders why this colonist keeps on picking a fight w him but soon almost looks forward to it
many of the other soldiers know or speculate why henry is in the colony but none make the effort to get to know him; some even call him arrogant or undeserving of his position
alex doesn't
of course alex also doesn't know him
and alex hates him
but he doesn't whisper behind henry's back
henry comes to read some of the essays alex publishes speaking out against the monarchy + also hears alex speak to crowd in the square
alex is a talented + charismatic public speaker
henry finds himself growing increasingly sympathetic to the colonists cause
at the same time he and the other soldiers are order to be stricter and dole out more punishments
the others gleefully do so which makes henry concerned about alex's safety bc alex often seems to have no self-preservation skills
henry asks alex for a word when he's alone
“am I in trouble?” “no but you bloody will be if u keep going on like this”
“this is serious” “so am I” “you can't go around saying things so openly you'll get yourself killed”
alex tries to leave at this point “I think I'll be ok” but henry shoves him against the nearest wall
“listen to me! stop acting like this is a game! ur putting ur sodding life in danger! I dont bloody care what ur opinions r but why must u declare them around enemy soldiers? how is this helpful 2 ur cause? u cant fight if ur dead”
“you'd b surprised how effective martyrs are”
cue enraged henry noises
alexs gaze turns hard “listen i  appreciate/the advice” he says sarcastically “but I dont need an enemy telling me what to do. I can take care of myself”
there's a stirring in alexs chest after he removes henry's hand and stalks off that he's pretty sure is anger
like it can't be anything else
while alex is trying to convince himself of that, the tensions boil over + soon the two sides are on the brink of war then the fighting starts
henry + alex don't talk much for a while bc they're both busy on their sides preparing
school is on hold during the war so alex + his friends are looking to serve + bring glory to their names
alex esp is recognized for his intelligence + becomes the recognized general rafael lunas secretary
luna is the george washington figure in this case who is impressed by alex wants him as his right-hand man
alex is disappointed his role is not on the battlefield bc he knows he has a good tactical mind + he could change the tide of a losing war + gain honor and status thru it, which would put him in a good position to be elected in the future
as secretary, alex is in charge of a lot of important correspondence eg for more supplies + men, so the motherland soldiers figure ambushing him off the battlefield would make things hard for the colonists
henry overhears this plan + immediately worries for alex's safety but he's cornered by another soldier to talk strategy + misses the chance to take out the men then
henry manages to catch that they're going to attack alex at night when he leaves + henry arrives just in time to kill them in a panic
alex hears the gunshot + yells “drop ur weapon”, drawing his own gun
henry obviously does + alex inspects the scene he keeps a gun fixed on henry
“what's going on?” he asks, eyeing henry w/ suspicion
henry explains everything + looks positively terrified bc he just betrayed his side even tho the motherland and his family has treated him like shit since he came out but still.
becoming an outright traitor is not something henry ever planned + leaving behind everything he's ever known w no hope of ever going back is terrifying
but he also doesn't regret protecting alex
alex questions henry but can quickly tell henry is sincere + is telling the truth
henry explains his change of heart + they have a heartfelt moment in/just outside luna's office.
alex almost died + henry just switched sides, emotions are running high and they escalate into a kiss. the moon is out + it's all very romantic but they don't admit their feelings yet
soon after they go to luna, explain the situation + talk w the other generals/people in charge
henry is sent away on an assignment + is watched closely at first but he proves his loyalty quickly
henry and alex write letters back + forth that turn into love letters
besides managing correspondence for luna, some of alexs ideas of sneak attacks/stealing supplies help turn the tide of the war andhe also writes to other countries for foreign aid
eventually the colonists win in this huge up start that no one anticipated bc the motherland is known as the most powerful country in the world
he + henry reunite in the capital of once the war is over
alex finishes up his studies + practices law + soon is chosen to be part of the new lawmaking body
things are going pretty well for alex w his legal + political success and his relationship with henry
they dont live together but theyre dating tho no one else knows
alex pretends to be single instead + says he doesn't want to be tied down
it works while he's still in his early 20s but as he gets closer to 30, people start to find it strange + tell him he needs to settle
being married to his work is also not a valid excuse anymore
it turns out alex made quite a few political enemies due to his strong opinions that he always vocalises + can be unwilling to compromise on
they don't like his ideas or more often hate him and hence his ideas too
they look for some dirt on him bc atm he has lunas support which has a lot of sway + decide they need to find out why he hasn't married
they manage to find out about henry + threaten to tell the public
alex is obviously distraught re the consequences personally + politically
so alex and henry discuss what to do
henry is willing to put alexs political career 1st but firmly explains their relationship can't continue if that's the case
henry gave up his whole life + any possibility of going back to his family so he's not willing to be someone's dirty little secret
alex doesn't know what to do so he goes to consult luna who he's become very close with over the years
luna is not quite old enough to be his father but he's like an uncle + he always calls alex “kid”, much to alex's annoyance
but alex knows he'll have some good advice
alex + luna end up having a long conversation
like washington luna has always been very vocal abt his regrets re his naivety + desire for glory back in his youth
hes always said that this was his greatest regret in life. but then he tells alex like he had another great regret in life- letting go of the love of his life
alex is surprised bc luna's never mentioned anyone special
“who is she?”
“he” luna corrects “he was my best friend. we had something a relationship but it was short-lived bc I decided I wanted to join the military + attain glory. i thought thats what i wanted in life. turns out that stuff is meaningless w/o anyone to share it w. nor did I even achieve it. perhaps i did accomplish some things but now in my retirement I have no one by my side. i have found that life is meaningless without love and family.
“i tried to find my friend to reconnect after all these years even as simply friends but he died in the war. alex, I see many similarities between us. don't make the same mistake that I did, alexander. glory + lasting legacy mean nothing if you're alone in the end
“if you make choices that are motivated by love and family you will be a lot happier”
alex takes his advice even though he kind of hates sort of giving up to his enemies
he decides to choose henry and his own happiness over politics bc in the end he's done a lot of good work and that much is enough
also his enemies probably would try to blackmail him throughout his career if he was doing something against their interests
so he + henry leave the capital and move uptown and the two of them have a quiet retirement + engage in philanthropy for the rest of their lives
separately they've amassed a decent amount of money - henry kept a portion of his inheritance despite being unofficially disowned and alex made a lot of money as a lawyer and then politician
as it turns out alex still has a tangential role in politics when some of his former allies go to him for advice
all in all, alex happy with his final decision to be with henry and step away from politics
the two of them live happy and full lives together
