Pairings Poppy x MC

I could hear notifications from all the directions. At first i am confused but then each and every student turn around to look at me. Zoe beside me is frozen looking over her screen. Its The T isn't it?

I am used on being in that blog but no one ever looked at me that way. So i open my phone and as i do i regret my decision immediately.

I stare at my phone in horror as Zoe grabs my hand leading me to our dorm. Everything fades as i feel my pulse quickening. What the fuck am i going to do now? Am i expelled yet? Oh my is Ina alright? I can hear people cheering, others whispering and others read in total shock.

Before i can think further Zoe sit beside me on our sofa running her hand through her hair. "Bea listen to me we can still fix this, there is no proof of what happened--"

But she gets interrupted as our door knocks. "Dont open the door! Not now Bea" but i ignore her completely not thinking straight. I crack the door open and all i can see is two guilty eyes looking deep into mine.

"Ina.." i breath out as she enters the room

Zoe stands up awkwardly and Ina gives her a look i cant begin to describe. Her hair is a mess, her mascara is running down her face and her eyes look so tired.

"Can you give us a moment?" She manages to say calmly and Zoe does as she is told leaving us completely lost and alone

Ina collapses to the sofa exhaling deeply. What have i done? I was so caught up into my own fantasies and desires that i led both of us to this.

"I spoke with the Dean" she finally breaks the silence between us and i look up at her, tears threatening to escape my eyes showing my vulnerability

"She will investigate this matter further.. until then we should both leave"

I stay quiet until i feel Ina move towards me. She sits beside me not daring to even touch me "I dont want you to think that any of this was your fault Bea"

I can't look at her in the eyes, i avoid her gaze. One Mistake led to me getting expelled. Way to go Bea. I sigh wiping my own tears, this university was an opportunity for me to change my life academically and financially. But i blew my chances by giving in to my desires

Ina stands up gathering her purse "Goodbye Bea, take care of you" Thats all? She isn't mad at me? She isn't mad that she lost her job? No wonder i like mature women. I cover my face with my hands as i hear the door close. What the hell am i suppose to do now?

I gather all my strength as i walk towards my room. Zoe is nowhere to be found but i don't want to open my phone. People send me nasty messages, cruel ones. Most of them say how much of a whore i am and others are just asking how good Miss Kingsley was. Disgusted, but no i am the disgusting one, who kept pushing her professor to sleep with her. Now she lost her job, and i have to say goodbye to my dream university.

I take my suitcase out folding effortlessly my T-shirts. I wonder what Poppy is thinking. I am sure she will be more than glad i am out of the way, i am sure she is the one behind this all. I sigh heavily as i continue packing, that until i hear a soft knock on the door

Thinking that its Zoe I open it wide ready to be confronted by her warm hug but i freeze when i see Poppy standing in the hallway.

"What else could you possibly want?" I ask as i massage my temples. Gosh i feel so tired

Poppy's expression is slightly different. Maybe if you haven't seen her bitchy face daily you wouldn't notice the difference but i do and i honestly can't deal with her right now

Without another word she just pass through me and into our living room. She never lose that elegance about her, she is walking like she owes this place

"So Miss Kingsley" she says as she crosses her arms shooting daggers with her glare

I roll my eyes "Oh please i know well that you uploaded that"

Poppy looks surprised but she is back to her ice cold expression in seconds "Listen Newbee--"

"Ugh shut up!! For once close your mouth can you? Not only Miss Kingsley is losing her job, i have been expelled!" I take a step forward, anger flowing through my veins

"But you just take and take and take without thinking who do you ruin!" My voice now rose as i take steps closer to her

"And don't worry, this 'Newbee' is leaving forever and you will be forever satisfied" i spit out as i collapse to the sofa. I want to cry badly but i don't want to be vulnerable Infront of Poppy.

Surprisingly she is silent, until she finally takes a sit beside me. "Can you please just go? I have a lot of things to pack, let alone explain to my parents the situation"

I dare to look at her and her eyes are wet with tears "It was Carter, he did it"

"Ha! Nice one, why would he even do that? He stood up when Chloe--"

Poppy sighs heavily "I broke up with him because of you"

I gasp standing up as i fell my blood boiling "I swear i dont like Carter why would you even--"

"No Hughes! I know that, Gosh you are so annoying" she says standing up as well coming towards me

Taking a deep breath i feel the tears ran down my face. I don't want to leave this university, it was my only chance to change my scene. I knew that i wouldn't fit in, God i wish i would have never step a foot here. I am quick to wipe them away remembering Poppy is still here

But then i feel a hand on on back patting me uncomfortably "We will find a way out of this Bea" she says softly giving me a weak smile. I can now see clearly that she had been crying

"What the hell do you want Poppy? You dont need to do anything for charity as you say" i move away from her grip and she sighs again, this time because of annoyance

"Its your fault anyways! Why did you even sleep with professor Kingsley? What does she has that i dont?" As she spit these words out she places her manicured hand over her mouth before she says more

My mind goes blank. Did Poppy Min-Sinclair just admit she is jealous? I chuckle at the thought trying to brush these ridiculous imaginations away but then i see how horrified she is.

"Poppy.." i open my arms for a hug but then she dodges away. Ugh why did i even try

"Don't! This is Gucci and you will get mascara all--" but then she stops taking a deep breath

Instead she opens her arms and i lean in hesitantly. The woman i saw as a rival for so long is hugging me. The same woman who tried to humiliate me Infront of thousands of students. The same who tried to kick me out of this university is now the one pulling me closer to her

I can smell her sweet perfume that makes my scenes dizzy. Her hands are caressing my back and i am overwhelmed by the warmth she radiates. Maybe its the expensive coat but then she pulls me incredibly close burying her face on my shoulder

I am still surprised, maybe i am dreaming am i not?

"I like you Bea..i don't want you to go" she whispers in my ear and i get goosebumps. What did she just say??? I am totally hearing things right?

I want to slightly push her away and look at her eyes to find answers to my questions but she holds me tight

"Ugh dont look at me, i cant believe i even said this" she is totally embarrassed

"Oh Poppy--"

"Don't you dare say you like me too the way you look at Professor Kingsley--" but i dont let her finish. I get free from her grip and i place my hands on both sides of her face

"Do you mean it or is this a joke?" I say looking deeply into her eyes. She melts into my touch and thats when i lean in brushing my lips against hers. At first they are gentle but as time passes our kisses become more heated.

I pull away and i watch her shudder against me at the loss of contact "I asked you a question" i say breathlessly as i gaze at her sparkly eyes

"I mean it" she says trying to catch her breath

"You ruined my coat now it will smell like you Hughes"

"Is that a bad thing?" I chuckle but then i see tears running down her face

"No! Dont look at me its angry tears, why the hell did you kiss me!"

I try to comprehend what just happened but then Poppy holds me against her in an instant "i wont allow anyone to kick you out"

I smile as i hold her closer to me "I know, because thats your job"

We both laugh wiping eachother's tears and finally i see the real Poppy. The one without her dogs around her or other students expecting her to be harsh. Its just Poppy and me.

A Garden of Stars (Prologue)

Genre: slow burn, friends to lovers/one sided love au (depends on the ending i guess :’)), high school au, angst

Summary : The only problem with falling in love is you didn't choose to

A/n: Soooo, here is the first part! I recommend listening to I like me better by Lauv while reading! Enjoy!

"We're going to be late!" Your older sister Selene yelled when you just finished brushing your teeth, you just rolled your eyes instead of replying her, knowing it was just to meet up with her boyfriend. And mom wouldn't let her go out unless you were with her all times until you reached school.

"I'm coming!" You replied, "Asshole"

"I HEARD THAT!"

"I WANTED YOU TO HEAR IT!" you yelled again, grabbing the jacket on your chair and hanging your schoolbag loosely around your shoulder. You looked at yourself in the mirror and sighed.

It's just another day of school.

And as usual, you went downstairs and said goodbye to your parents, and walked out with Selene to be greeted with harsh sunlight, so you cover your eyes with your arm.

"Why is it so sunny today?" You asked, and finding that your sister was squealing and running into Hoseok- her boyfriend's- arms. And you just rolled your eyes for the second time, but stopped when Hoseok started to laughed

"Good morning (Y/n)!"

"Morning" You smiled at him, not nearly matching his. But your sister had different plans when she pampered his face with kisses, and he hugged her waist, smiling like it was their wedding day. "I'll just go to school on my own" you stated, not wanting to watch her kissing him for a second longer, Hoseok, wanting to reply, was cut off by a kiss on his lips, and you turned your heel.

He's cute and I hate that, I hate his sunshine smile, and I hate how he's so nice, and I hate that he belongs to my sister.

You plugged in your ear piece, wanting to listen to music on your way. And as you clicked shuffle on your playlist, I like me by Lauv came on.

You smiled lazily and clicked on the Instagram post Jimin had updated and tagged you of him in the empty theater, looking so fucking aesthetic. You remembered that you were helping him read his scripts, and he had asked you to take that photo of him, and he had apparently posted it and tagged you as his "Best photographer" and now your Instagram was blowing up with followers.

The lead actor of the school, the hottest model for Instagram, the most adorable classmate, was a great person, but he's in the school's 'I want to date him bc he's so popular but not a bitch' list, so just being his friend is risky.

Apparently, he had also tagged Jin, the film and photography director of our school. The person who you loved to annoy with your best friend, by making fart noises when he was recording, and it would always make Jimin burst to laughter and forget his lines.

He was so much more handsome than he claimed to be, and he was talented as fuck. His laugh is adorable, and he could literally step on me. But he already had a girlfriend, and his girlfriend was so nice you ended up being friends with her when you wanted to pry his sex life out of her. I know, I didn't know what I was thinking either

As you commented on his picture, you received a message, and you clicked on it fast, realizing Yoongi had sent you a piece he was working on. And you smiled, remembering how he and you met online when you wanted to find a tutor for piano lessons, and found someone your age instead, and immediately became friends. He wasn't from your school, but you seen him in pictures before, and all you wanted was to kiss his gummy smiles.

Is it love at first sight? Why is he so adorable! And he's a pianist too! I never even met him! Ugh, what is wrong with me!!

You passed a couple that was walking by the park, and you smiled at the girl, who smiled back at you. Your phone in hand and eyes trained to the road, looking left and right for cars, and as the train above you passed and no cars were in sight, your crossed the road, a skip in your step when you saw an old man and a dog doing the same as you, stopping only to bow politely at him.

You crossed the sidewalk safely, only to forget every damn time that a curb was there, and you stumbled a little, already being used to it, you just laughed it off. Getting up to run back to your normal pace, your school not further and not wanting to catch up with Selene and Hoseok.

You remembered the first time you fell on that curb, Namjoon, who had been sitting on the bench at the park, saw you and dashed to you immediately, abandoning his notes and papers that looked like sheets of music on the bench, and helping you up, asking if you were okay. You guys hit it off right then and there, you learned that he was a senior in your school, and he wanted to produce music. You also learned that he was not looking for a relationship, after he told you that he had not planned on staying, but instead wanted to move as soon as he graduated, to find a chance to be a musician.

He was adorable, his hair was always stuck in places, and I loved running my fingers through them, with the reason I wanted to fix it. I love poking his dimples, and I love forgetting that there is a motherfucking curb after school because he was always there, and ever since then, I know who to rely on when I'm down. But only for now, because sadly, he's moving after graduation.

You ran into birds that flew away as always when you ran to them, they had always occupied the fountain there. The birds had flew away faster ever since that day you were playing soccer with Taehyung.

I mean, you had told him playing soccer at a public place was a bad idea. But he insisted on teaching you a so called power move he made, and you couldn't just say no. So as the good friend you were, you and him ended up in the park, playing soccer, and when he tried to show me the power move, he had kicked too hard and the ball literally hit one of the pigeons at the fountain, and you didn't want to say it died, but it did scare the others away big time, and since then the birds there was really quick on their feathers. Plus, Tae had bought you ice cream as an apology!

He was hot, no kidding. Captain of the soccer team? Loved by everyone at campus? so it was not impossible for me to fall in love with him too! But you know what's the dual combo for loved soccer captain? Cute cheerleader in pigtails. And that's just it. There goes my chances. I might as well start working out and learn gymnastics.

You laughed at the memory of it all. And finally, you had reached school after safely walking the crossroad of busy teenagers on their phones or with their significant others, or best friends.

You arrived at campus earlier than expected and the bell wont ring for a few more minutes. So you just went to your usual hiding space, thinking of all the cliché memories of you writing those seven love letters.

Oh? There were only six stated? Well, that can't be right... because..

"(Y/n)! Get your ass over here quick!"

You turned and smiled, seeing Jeon Jeongguk walk up to you, his hair and jacket practically swaying in the wind, as what looked like a phone was in his hands, and a smiled played his lips. His eyes glistening with the morning sun, showing that he woke up on the right side of bed.

"Where have you been? I've been waiting since ass crack of dawn!" He laughed and shoved his phone in your face "Look at this, look at this! IU posted a new photo! Look at this (Y/n)! Are you looking!?" You laughed when he was trying to grab your body from falling into the grass because you were trying to walk backwards. "You did not come here at ass crack of dawn"

"You're not seeing it!"

"Okay give it to me" You said, grabbing his phone and looking at the picture of IU, the sweetheart of campus. The lead choir and the best singer of the whole high school. You scrunched your nose, and immediately deleted it, falling backwards on the soft grass so he couldn't prevent you from not deleting it.

"(Y/n)!!!" Jungkook panicked, and you couldn't help but laugh at how worried he was. "Why did you do that?" He pouted, lying on the grass next to you, and wrapping his arm around your shoulder as sounds of students chattering filled both of your ears, and he immediately took his phone back.

"Because she isn't good for you. She has a boyfriend Guk, are you crazy? Keeping a picture of her? What would her boyfriend say?"

"Why would he care?" he pouted more, sticking his bottom lip out. And you stood, placing a hand on your hip.

"Well, if I were your girlfriend, and Tae Tae had a picture of me, what would you do?" you asked, and he looked up at you.

"Good point" he laughed, then stood next to you, just as the bell rang "But you my best friend, so unless Tae Tae likes you, It's just creepy" he said, laughing "And there goes the bell. Wait for me after class okay?" You nodded "You tell me that every day Jungkook"

"I just don't want you to bail on me!" he said, then he turned to the back door "I'm going to go now! Don't wanna be late on this normal boring day! Bye best friend!" He kissed your cheek, like you always did, then left.

And that's the problem. With Jeon Jungkook. Your best friend. And the person your currently in love with

Finding my feet in 2019

Good heavens, it’s been a minute, hasn’t it? I had all these PLANS for my late winter/spring of ’19, didn’t I? Ah, well. It’s a funny industry, and I sometimes have trouble saying “no” to projects, even when I’m well aware that I ought to. SPEAKING OF. The secret project mentioned in my last (now surely long forgotten) post was handed in early this month, and later this week I should get my notes for revisions. Then next month, it’s more secret project grinding and yes, one day this should probably be announced. April, I’ve been told. We shall see.

I’ve still got a lot of work to do before I’m free of this one and back to the thing I tried to start, but then put down; also some rewrites on my wacky little mystery project that still needs to make the submission rounds; and furthermore some fleshing out on Cinderwich because I’ve finally come to peace with the idea that it needs to be a full length novel, drat it all; and I’m noodling with some thoughts for another Wild Cards project, but that one’s on the back burner for now (by necessity).

And to think, I had plans to take a break this year and maybe just work on, like, one thing.

On the home front, things continue as things are wont to do. In sad news, we lost our beloved eldercat early in the new year. She was quite ancient and dearly loved. We found her one morning atop her favorite heating vent, having settled in for a nap and never awakened. (That we all should be so lucky.) We had her cremated, and her tiny urn is on the mantle with her collar and tags wrapped around it – because we’re sentimental, that’s why. She lived with us for nearly twenty years, and she was an adult when she arrived in our home. You’re allowed to be sentimental when you’ve had a really great roommate for that long.

Shortly thereafter, we lost the fish, too – so we are now a tank-less household. I could’ve restocked that tank, but it felt like too much effort after we lost the little old lady. Now it’s in the garage.

In the wake of the eldercat’s passing, Quinnie has decided to become The Cat, rather than the smallest and least respected dog – so it’s been a social adjustment, but it’s gone smoothly for the most part. Lucy is learning to pay the House Yeti a little of the respect that she used to show the little old lady cat, and Greyson doesn’t really seem to have noticed that anything’s different.

Of course, Greyson is also trying to eat his own tail at the moment, so I won’t hold him up as a bastion of wisdom or anything. He has a little cyst toward the end of his tail – far enough down that he can still reach it with the cone, ugh. It’s no big deal, but he won’t leave it alone. The vet and I are in the process of deciding whether to remove it or just try to keep it wrapped up until he forgets to gnaw on it.

As for Lucy, she’s doing quite well. Why, just yesterday she horrified me by either finding or catching a large black coot. (A water bird about the size of a duck.) There’s always the chance that it died on the property for some reason and she found it; we aren’t terribly far from a lake, so it’s not like it’s a total freaking mystery as to how the poor thing got here – but Lucy can’t possibly have caught it out of the air (she’s rather fat, tbh) and it didn’t hit a window, that’s for damn sure. That bird was big enough to take out an airplane engine, and there are no signs of cracks, breaks, or splats.

Anyway. Yesterday was gross and bad. Let us speak no more of it.

In other news, I’m still working on the house in my copious downtime. I’m down to three sets of ugly light fixtures to be removed and three lovely new fixtures with which to replace them. They’re going to be a BEAR to install, courtesy of some ridiculous ceilings. But I have a ladder and when I have the motivation, I’ll put the last of these ugly 1990s cheap-ass builder grade rusted-out lights to the curb. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe not.

Tomorrow I’ve got a guy coming over to take something off my hands via NextDoor, and I’ve got a couple of new things coming in. I also have picked out some vinyl flooring for my bathroom, and if I like it, we’ll do the kitchen, too. I will get this house looking like civilized adults live here and care about our surroundings if it freaking kills me.

And oh yeah – publishing news. My southern gothic project The Toll will be dropping in July instead of this coming fall. I know, right? Cool and a tad scary – because I’ve been eyeballs deep and it’s not that I’ve forgotten about it, but it was easier to worry about when it was still happening all the way out in November.

But no. July. It got a starred review from Publishers Weekly and everything. You can read that starred review here, if you like.

They called it “Moody and mysterious…[a] gothic tale [that] touches the heart even as it wraps chilly fingers around the spine.” I’ve been calling it a low-brow southern gothic meet-cute between Welcome to Night Vale and William Faulkner, so … your mileage may vary.

1. coke or pepsi? I don’t have a preference, but fun fact: when I was a child, I called them mamsi-coke and papsi-coke (as in mom and dad) for no particular reason.

2. disney or dreamworks? I like Dreamworks’ intro more than Disney’s, so yeah.

3. coffee or tea? I’ve tasted coffee twice and hated it both times. I’m a devoted fan of Earl Grey tea.

4. books or movies? Usually books, but sometimes movies capture a scene much better than a book could.

5. windows or mac? Windows: the only experience I’ve had with Mac was with a horrible, horrible PC.

6. dc or marvel? Marvel: I haven’t seen much of DC...

7. xbox or playstation? I don’t play video games that much, but lemme quote @gameofsassbutts ‘s answer ‘cause it’s cool: “[robot woman voice] playstation”.

8. dragon age or mass effect? Again, I’m not a gamer. No idea what those are.

9. night owl or early riser? Night owl ftw.

10. cards or chess? Cards because I suck at chess. Plus card games are awesome.

23. animation or live action? I’d say animation, just because you can do anything when it’s an animation, whereas a live action *anything* is constrained by the physical world. And that’s not fun.

There’s writer (not sure whether my shitty writing will be good enough to make at least some career out of it...), CÉGÈP-level psychology teacher (because my two-times psych teacher Lisa amazed me), Speech-Language therapist for children (because I’m intimate with how it works), and/or ASL interpreter somewhere somehow (because I’m a slut for languages). Extra-career-wise, I’d like to keep writing and reading any time I have time.
