letting him go wild

Due to our governments archaic law about this dog being dangerous, we don't know whether he will get to live for next year's christmas. So today he is allowed to be happy. Thanks for changing our lives, Butcher.

I finished my npl and placement yesterday so here’s free vet advice that everyone asks for
Insure your pets, in dogs and cats it is 100% worth it. And try to get to cover for the highest amount that you can afford. I can go into more detail about pet insurance if you want
Most flea treatment that contains ‘fipronil’ will not work, fleas have become immune to it. Often times only prescription flea medications will work or a seresto collar
If your dog is going in for a planned surgery, bath them the day before, make sure they go to the toilet the morning of and if your feeling like really making your vet nurses happy, cut their beard as short as possible.
Don’t breed your pet if you cannot afford a caesarean, ask for an estimate for one at your local and out of ours vets
If your male cat is constantly trying to pee but can’t, that is an emergency you need to take him to the vet straight away
If your rabbit or guinea pig stops eating or pooping that is an emergency you need to take them to the vet
If you have a deep chested dog and their stomach is swollen, they cannot lie down / rest, they’re salivating a lot and unsuccessfully trying to vomit, this could be an emergency you need to take them to the vet straight away
Euthanasia can be a kindness to some animals, I promis your pet isn’t angry at you for getting them put to sleep, they’re out of pain (mental or physical) now and you did the right thing
If your debating whether or not your pet needs to see a vet, just ring up and ask your vets
Your pet being overweight can be as dangerous for their health as them being underweight, check body condition scores and ask your vet nurse for weight advice if your not sure
H fronted dog harnesses such as Julius k9 harnesses can damage your dogs shoulders, especially if they pull a lot. Y fronted ones are safer.
Don’t get a new pet if you cannot afford routine vet bills, if you don’t have at least £100 you can spare for your pet to see the vet, you cannot afford that pet.
Vaccinate your pets, every year.
Try to have some sort of good dental health routine for your pet, dental sticks now and then don’t work. Enzymic toothpaste, plaque off, aqua dent, hills T/D do work.
Learn what pain looks like in your pet, search Glasgow pain score or ‘species’ grimace scale for more info. Remember, if you would be in pain in your pets condition, they are in pain and need prescribed pain relief.
Don’t give pets human over the counter medication unless you have specific instructions from your vet to do so. So many human medications can be toxic to pets.

First ride post-fork upgrade — just a two-mile loop on gravel forestry track with a bit of easy singletrack right at the end.
The Revelations are immense. I wasn't sure what to expect as the old Sektors were the best I'd ever tried, but hohoholy shit.
The front is miles more lively because it weighs ✨nothing✨ I was alright at hoisting the Sektors, but my god. It's effortless with these.
Now to test somewhere more extreme.
Bonus Max being a bozo. 😌

Hello! This is a very random question-but I guess dogblr can be like that-feel free to ignore this ask 😅
I saw your post about Sigurd’s buff muscles and had a slight epiphany.
I have a working line Lab (like very working-the line is quite split in the UK) and his gait is very different to most of the labs I see. Is that what I’m seeing? The difference between a fit weight dog bred to work and who does work as an assistance dog (including guide work literally pulling me along) vs an overweight show type plodding along?
Skye is my first ever dog so I’m still figuring out what ‘looks normal’ on a dog and he’s is decidedly not a pet (and makes that very clear to me on a daily basis) so finding frames of reference can be a challenge!
Also thank you very much for your very lovely blog with some very cute fluffy sled dogs (we basically never see working ones in the UK only disaster owner pets and yours are gorgeous!)
I would say the difference in your dog's gait vs other dogs of the same breed's gait is down to structural differences not necessarily line dependent.
The structure of an individual dog's body affects the way it moves, this is why we see dogs bred for different purposes having often wildly different body types. A correct whippet's structure is best suited for its purpose of high speed chasing whereas a correct labrador's structure is best suited for retrieving in icy water all day. A lab should not move like a whippet and vice versa, but both of their structures are good things for their purposes.
The example above is extreme, but differences in gait and movement can occur at a more subtle level. The length of a dog's upper arm influences how far it is able to extend outward in front and have proper reach in its gait whereas the angle of the dog's shoulder affects how the dog is able to balance and move in a straight line.
Your dog likely moves differently than show line dogs not just because his weight is different but because structurally he is different. There are several reasons for structural split between work and show dogs and often the differences between such lineages in many breeds is a controversial and hotly debated subject.
For labradors for example they were original bred to help retrieve in icy Canadian waters and their standard is written accordingly. Field line or working line labradors here in America don't often deal with the icy temperatures so breeders often prefer a lighter structure and breed for a different preference than the show standard. With a different interpretation of the breed comes different structure.
Additionally not all breeders take functional structure strongly into account be it pet, show or working breeders. This means that some show breeders are often desiring exaggeration in a breed where there should be moderation, pet people breeding dogs just because they like them and not thinking of the structural implications and working breeders not thinking as deeply about structure as they should be because the dog works and is functional.

I haven't updated y'all on Váli for a while
He's still doing Váli things, being a Váli, being a muscular active beast with the personality trait of that really sweet nerd who watches way too many crime shows.

That's it. I've had enough. I'm gonna try my hardest to start up an org to become a charity to help get assistance dog partnerships into education in the UK. I've had it with these univesities and colleges being ignorant. THE AMOUNT OF STORIES THAT I'VE HEARD IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS.
I'm want to call it Canine Access to Education or CATE. An fuck it I'm gonna get my disabled bros into education.
