Second attempt at teaching myself how to make dolls!
I definitely made mistakes, and I didn't even bother embroidering a nose because I thought the natural curve of the pattern implied it nicely enough. But I'm quite happy with this experiment!
My hope is that once I get used to working with all of these different shapes, I can start making my own patterns. All in all, I'm having a lovely time!
(Note 1, this is not my pattern. But I'm not sure who's it is originally, because I came across about a million of these while looking for things to try. If anyone who knows about this stuff could fill me in, that would be super appreciated!)
(Note 2, I have a couple of my sister's prints in the background there)
This is my first custom Monster High doll, and I learned a lot of cool new art techniques in the process. I think making my own little guy irl has fixed me.

Progress pics under the cut!
The clothes were hand sewn and the plaid pattern was drawn on in sharpie. I also ended up making each piece twice as I figured out what did and didn't work with the doll proportions. Shout out to @Dollightfully's etsy shop for having easy to follow patterns I could modify!
After stripping all the paint and hair I added modifications with apoxie sculpt to better match Sloane's design, color matched with acrylics and added depth to the face with soft pastels. They also received top surgery with sand paper and a lot of patience.
The best part, the face!! I sealed everything up with Mr Super Clear and got to work layering up color and lines with water color pencils + white acrylic for highlights and base coat for the eyes. For the hair I glued down pieces of faux fur and razored it into the shape I wanted.
Tail needs to be attached, but otherwise this took me about three weeks on and off. Thank you to the free Clawdeen doll I got from work and a long hiatus for making this possible. Originally I just wanted to see if I could do this, but think I've unlocked a new niche hobby oops.
If you made it this far in the post—
I've been watching one of the dolls under my care learn to make various kinds of tea. Its traditionally a combat doll, designed to be barely restrained on a metaphorical leash, seconds away at any time from tearing someone apart for its handlers and staff. But as its amount of down time increases its found itself restless and wishing to expand the ways it can serve and care for its handler.
Watching it retry again and again until it gets it just right. Learning the different temperatures for different kinds and what kinds need additives like sugar and milk. Drinking failed batches it doesn't like just to not waste supplies. Expressing confusion that sugar and honey are different forms of sweet, something its hyper efficiency focused mind never would have bothered noticing.
The way it uses the data slate we gave it to take notes on preparation, preferences of different staff member, always with its handlers focused on the too of priority.
And how happy it noticeably is when anyone nods approvingly or says they got it right. How stressed and tense it is till then. Its a thrill to watch. I adore watching dolls work and grow and find new purposes to keep them going. It makes some of the rough parts of this job all worth it. I'm thrilled with it and thrilled I'm getting to work with it.
More process pictures! Mugi is my perfect excuse to buy cute dresses 🥰
The original idea was to make the torso split into 3 parts, with a ball in the middle just because I liked the aesthetics of the ball, but it did not improve the posability (unless I changed the overall shape of the body, but I didn't want to), so at the end I decided to make it into 2 pieces, so it matches the other bodies!
Also redid some joints digitally, so they look way more neat. Making joints and pieces that are more technical is always harder to do by hand, like neat edges and perfect spheres. So being able to make them digitally is a time saver. Just so you can make an idea, it took me several days to make the piece on the left and the surface is still not smooth. For the piece on the right, it took me 30 minutes to sculpt it digitally, and 1 hour to get it printed. It's just too fast and easy 🥹
Mugi current status is practically finished! But before sending her to the casting factory, I want to digitalize her. First of all, because I want to make a human version of her head, with no horns. But also because the casting factory waiting times have gone up like crazy, and I don't want to wait for +5 months to play with Mugi, so I will print a copy to play in the meantime 🥲
Head is all smooth and soft 🥰
I sculpted a lot of hands in cute poses and I want them to be easily interchangeable with magnets, but making hands is super tedious 🥲 Sanding between the fingers, make sure all nails have the same overall shape in all hands...It's the only part that I still have to finish 💔
Last but not least! Please let me introduce you to MeiFang or MeiMei!
My most requested doll has always been an MSD Fang. I KNOW. I am fully aware that this is NOT what people have been asking me to do 😅 But since I don't think I will make a MSD mature Fang (let's say, a shrunk version of the current one) I decided to make a child version of her! I adjusted the features accordingly to the age change, so the eyes are larger and rounder, the nose and mouth are smaller, and her cheeks are puffier. Really hope people still appreciates her 🫶
I am sending you a virtual snack If you read until this! 😆
the metanarrative made me do it…. yeah i’m making pathologic dolls. never made any dolls before, but i’m pretty happy with my first attempt even if they look a little wonky
So happy to finally present my Fizzarolli doll! I actually made him like a year ago, right after Ozzie's episode and just loved him instantly, plus he is voiced by Alex Brightman and as a musical nerd I had no chance. Can't wait to see more of his jesters' costumes!
Finally settled my PC back up and I can post these pictures!
The Dolldrops and I had a fantastic time in London last weekend! The dolls received many compliments, head pats, hugs, and other lovely comments from people daily!
They met Marta Svetek, Kellen Goff, and Dawko! Kellen also signed the dolls for me :>
I got them a lot of lovely treats like bubble tea and new plushies - It was their first time going out to the public and they were just basking in the attention they received! Going back to the hotel and both were just sleeping in the bag or my lap like exhausted little puppies.
Now we're in our new apartment, trying to get settled. The trip was successful, even though I was pretty anxious travelling with them :D We'll be saving money to make another trip sometime in the future!
We met @kriimhild too, and she was a great help babysitting the two little gremlins so I could rest my wrists from carrying both of them all the time :'D
