dolores would trace her baby's cute cheeks and boop her nose, and mariano would be tickling her stomach - they just love the giggles this little baby lets out

i would like to imagine that at this stage of dolores' life, her powers won't hurt as much anymore - she's still affected by loud fireworks but she can tolerate the sound of a baby crying

overall it was definitely an experience for the both of them, they easily fell in love with the baby (and they fell in much more love with each other too <33)

Fic rec of the week from March 27th to April 9th

Happy easter! Chocolate is life so I'm so happy and I'll totally gain weight again. As for you, instead of chocolate I'm giving you links to my favorites fics of the week!

The first one is called Still just you and me, and is about Agustín and Pepa's friendship. In there, Pepa gets jealous because Agustín got a new friend and he's forgetting his promises to her.

It's a pretty simple but cute story that really touched my heart! I wasn't sure before starting but I love how it's about Pepa and Agustín only, without Félix and Julieta being part of the friendship. They're best friends and it feels!

The second one is Dreamlight Miracle, by @egofan4evr, a Reader story (platonic) crossover between Dreamlight Valley and Encanto.

It has been started last year, before Encanto was announced in Dreamlight valley. At the time we honestly thought it would take a long time before we gets any Encanto character in Dreamlight Valley...I guess we were wrong XD That fic also made me want to start playing Dreamlight Valley because it seemed so fun.

I was honestly afraid she would stop it, so I'm happy she decided to continue it and having it be an Alternate universe where you're getting Mirabel a different way than in the game. I like her way by the way, it's really fitting the Encanto characters. For now she posted a short chapter before she continuse and I can't wait to see how she'll adapt it with what we have in canon.

The last one is A pilgrim's kiss by @theglareyousee and is about Mariano and Dolores and Shakespeare works.

I'm not a native english speaker so the Shakespeare kind of language gives me headaches. I mean... "This love feel I, that feel no love in this. Dost thou not laugh?" I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN, SPEAK ENGLISH!

There though it was alright! Especially since it's only quotes said by Mariano as a way to be romantic. I love how it serves as showing he isn't compatible with Isabela, but is with Dolores because she's the one to know and understand poetry on the contrary of Isabela who doesn't understand it at all.

It's cute and very fitting, a must read!

Ángel Madrigal (b. 14/02/53):

The firstborn with a gift very similar to his abuela's. Ángel's gift reveals his 'aura' at all times, but he also has the power to see someone else's with physical contact. He’s quite outspoken and blunt, despite his soft tone. Without using his gift, he's not great at reading a room.

Nora Madrigal (b. 01/01/55):

The cautious girl with the gift of invisibility. It's not necessarily that she is shy but she always wants to put her best foot forward and, if she can't, she'll just keep you from seeing her foot instead. Nora prefers to play it safe and is a total stickler when it comes to rules.

Sirena Madrigal (b. 02/05/57):

The bubbly kid with the gift to command the element of water. Much like her abuelo, she goes with the flow and tries to be a beacon of positivity. As a duo with her cousin, Leo (👀), she takes a lot of cues from Mirabel in having a glue-like presence within the family.

Pablo Madrigal (b. 23/09/62):

The most independent of his siblings with magical hair. He was born with weak vocal cords and was coddled a lot by his family, especially his mother and big brother. His gift helped him to express himself without them constantly watching over him. After (a small handful of) years of being babied whilst watching his older siblings and cousins make all the mistakes he couldn't, Pablo reckons he's a little man that can fend for himself!

Marco Madrigal (b. 21/06/64):

He's just a little guy with no gift 🥺 (although, one day he may or may not open a door to the world of psychometry).

I’m a bit late but happy birthday to Dolores Madrigal! She’s my absolute favorite from Encanto. I whipped this drabble up as quick as I could. It makes me so happy to see so much content in honor of my favorite girl!

Dolores couldn’t remember the last time she could genuinely say she enjoyed her birthday ever since she turned five. Sure, Mirabel’s gift ceremony had gone terribly wrong, but Dolores was pretty sure hers was ranked among the top worst. She spent that entire evening bawling her eyes out from the sensory overload of her new gift. The fact that the loud celebration still continued in her room didn’t help matters either.

Though a smaller, more intimate birthday party each year would’ve suited Dolores just fine, like everything the Madrigals did, their birthday parties every year for every grandchild had to be perfect, entertaining, dazzling, noisy.

Don’t get her wrong, Dolores enjoyed dancing and celebrating but their was only so much noise her ears could bear before her energy was zapped. Also, the parties had gotten so large and extravagant that it didn’t really center around who they were celebrating anymore. People just liked to party. Another downside was that she hardly ever got to hang out with her family since the Madrigals were all running around busy hosting.

But now, with all their energy and effort being placed on rebuilding Casita, throwing huge celebrations wasn’t the Madrigals’ main priority.

Isabela’s birthday had just passed and she had absolutely insisted against a party. Instead, she went out on a shopping spree, buying every bright, eye-catching article of clothing she could find. It was fun to see the façade of Señorita Perfecta finally topple.

Tío Agustín’s birthday had been celebrated in June and it was a nice little family get together, complete with a lovely cake her clumsy tío had promptly tripped face-first into. Lucky for him, he fell into the cake after he had blown out the candles.

Dolores wished her birthdays had been like that. Simpler and quieter, minus the faceplant. In the past, it had irked her that at every stop Isabela outshined her. However, every time it was Dolores small chance in the spotlight whenever her birthday rolled around soon after her prima’s, she wanted nothing more than to withdraw into a little ball and escape the assault to her senses.

Finally, now that the world was at a normal volume, she could appreciate celebrations a bit more. Still, she was mildly confused when the family got up on her birthday not acting any different than normal. Only Antonio grinned up at her and wished her a quiet happy birthday after the family had finished breakfast.

She couldn’t be too upset about that though. She was one who easily fell through the cracks. Besides, wasn’t this what she wanted? No fuss or hubbub.

Putting the finishing touches on their new home was a rather enjoyable birthday activity in her optimistic eye. Of course, that optimism could be due to the fact that she was helping paint the nursery with Mariano at her side.

Dios, he really was wonderful. She was so glad Isabela broke off the engagement and Dolores finally mustered the courage to speak to him. For all the time she spent fawning over and listening to his voice, now it was his turn.

While other family members struggled with their lack of gift, Dolores thrived once she got used to the lack of hearing range. For once, she could hear her own voice spilling from her lips without cringing at the sound reverberating painfully through her skull.

Dolores paused her paintbrush mid-stroke and her mouth abruptly shut with an embarrassed hum. She had been going off on a rant about Tío Bruno’s latest plot twist when she realized she probably had been chattering entirely too much. When she faced him, she didn’t see the annoyance she expected to find.

Instead, Mariano was staring at her as if she were the most angelic creature on earth and not a sweaty, paint-splattered hopeless romantic. He smiled warmly, motioning for her to continue. “And then what happened to Ricardo’s second cousin?”

“He–” She never got to finish her sentence as her brother bounded into the room and impishly swung his paint-laden brush at them.

“‘Milo!” admonished Dolores, gesturing to her and Mariano and the now freshly speckled wall.

“It’s fine. Remember, we don’t need to be perfect. Besides, it adds character,” waved Camilo nonchalantly.

Mirabel wandered into the almost complete nursery and immediately took notice of Camilo’s little addition. “Camilo! Really?!”

“It adds character,” reiterated Camilo pointedly. He admired his handiwork on his sister, her new boyfriend (ew), and the wall. “Also, you’ve all got freckles like me.”

Before an argument could ensue, Mariano questioned, “Hey, Mirabel, do you know why we kept the nursery? Surely this isn’t your room.”

“Nope. It’s not. We’re building my room elsewhere,” declared Mirabel proudly. Then she shrugged. “And Abuela just kept the nursery in the plans because she wants it to be as close to the original Casita as possible.”

A mischievous glint behind her green flames was all the warning they got as she added, “Besides, we’ll need the nursery again eventually.” She gestured at Mariano and Dolores. “With the way you two are making eyes at each other, Abuela just might become Bisabuela sooner than she thinks.”

Dolores and Mariano went scarlet.

Mirabel grinned cheekily at Camilo who was surprisingly not jumping in with his own wisecrack, “Huh, it is easier to tease when it’s not my sister with a boyfriend.”

The fifteen year old flitted out the room.

Camilo pulled faces at Mariano and his hermana as he said, “Whatever. C’mon, lunch is ready.”

The surprise that awaited Dolores when she got to the table made her want to tear up. Her whole family and a couple of close family friends were gathered around a cake with her name on it. A few wrapped presents dotted the table. Ah, so that’s why it seemed they conveniently “forgot” at breakfast.

The Madrigals grew worried when the young woman seemed to freeze up, clutching her hands in front of her with tears shining in her eyes. Had their surprise shout been too loud? Surely not with Dolores’s superhearing gone.

“It’s…” she was going to say perfect but that wasn’t really an accepted term anymore. “…beautiful. Just what I’ve wished for all these years.”

Dolores didn’t need or want extravagant. Gift or no gift, she was drawn to the calm and her family. However, it was hilarious that the Madrigals were singing happy birthday in mellow tones for once when there really wasn’t any need to worry about blasting her eardrums away. As if sensing her thoughts, Isabela came over and teasingly covered Dolores ears. Then her favorite prima absolutely belted out the rest of the song.

Encanto: Madrigal Family Relationship Analysis Part 20 - Felix and Pepa

These two are the definition of couple goals. This is no disrespect for Agulieta, Palma, and Doloriano, as they could also be described as “couple goals”, but these two had the most screentime of the entire pairings and show nothing but deep love and affection for one another. Felix enjoys helping Pepa manage her mood swings and she deeply appreciates his efforts. They kiss, tenderly hold onto one another, and love to sing and dance whenever possible. I remember seeing this fancomic from kianamai on her instagram page of a possible meeting between the couple: They met as children, instantly liked on another, and Felix didn’t find Pepa’s mood-linked weather powers bad at all; he loved it and Pepa was clearly touched it. That’s how I believed they met. Felix was most likely the first person outside her siblings (I can’t count Alma since her “advice” for Pepa was to just get rid of it) who never saw her powers as a problem and didn’t tell her to “control” herself. Pepa fell in love with his bright, cheerful, helpful, and loving demeanor; Felix fell in love with her passionate, honest, protective, and equally loving heart. Heck, even when they get into a brief argument in the WDTAB song, it’s quickly dealt with and forgotten. I also think that Pepa may have some insecurity over Felix helping her moods not because she doesn’t appreciate but because she feels that she’s not helping him enough; if brought up, Felix would quickly reassure her that, her very being is helpful enough for him.
