Friendly reminder that Disney’s self proclaimed "progressive” image is a marketing scheme of doing the absolute bare minimum at every instance, just for the positive reception that they get from patting themselves on the back
Hiii I’m sorry that this isn’t art, but it’s very important I feel that I share this around, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and as a Florida resident.
They have now extended the Don’t Say Gay bill to all grade levels, K-12. This is exactly what we said would happen. You give them an inch, they take a mile. And they will NOT stop here. They will continue to ban us, to the point where I fear that we will be hunted down. Florida is not safe. I don’t know what to do. I have voted in EVERY ELECTION I could since I turned 18, and if anything, the government gets more and more conservative. And I, as well as several other LGBTQ+ people, can’t afford to just pick up and leave. We are in danger.
I don’t really have any sort of solution for this. Just… if you are an LGBTQ+ person in Florida, I recommend getting out of here as soon as you can, and to find safe places to stay. Do not move to Florida, or even vacation here, especially if you’re LGBTQ+. It’s not safe, and we need to protest this where it’ll hurt Florida’s economy. And if you live somewhere else… please don’t let your home end up like this. Vote and protest this so it doesn’t become law.
Please stay safe out there friends. Hold your loved ones close.
Indiana is in the process of passing a bill very similar to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
HB 1608 bans discussion of sexuality with children in grades K-3.
It requires schools to out trans students to their parents. Additionally, it adds protections for teachers and staff that refuse to use a student’s preferred name or pronouns. You read that right. Transphobic educators are PROTECTED from being disciplined under this bill.
“I think that most trans kids decide to get trans medical care on a whim and they need to think more about it” is an argument I see popping up a lot with the current political climate. It’s an argument used for why minors should be banned from taking trans medical care, or why people shouldn’t get a euthanasia, or abortions, etc.
This whole notion that the decision is made on an impulse and there is no medical regulations or thought put in to it, is a bit ignorant to me. I don’t think any of these people have looked into the regulations there is for this stuff. I did a whole entire presentation on euthanasia and why it should be legalized and a large amount of push back i got was the argument above, even though there is regulations set it place! There’s a waiting period, there’s a background check for mental illnesses, there’s a large portion of people who’s requests are rejected because they fail these regulations in fact. Trans minors also go through heavy amounts of regulations just for the idea to even be CONSIDERED, plenty of my friends have been waiting for months to be considered for medical care. It is a long and tedious process and not it has been banned entirely for many of them. These decisions are not made on a whim, they are made after deep though put into them and they are often times something that minor desperately needs. Stop phrasing it as impulsive and something many people regret.
This is the conservatives world and we are just living in it, are we?
Conservatives took women right to make decisions about their reproductive rights.
Conservatives are making laws to force LGBT teachers to hide their truth in classrooms.
They took Miranda rights, so police no longer have to read your rights before arresting you.
Conservatives are also planing to go after gay marriage.
Its beginning to be felt the genuine effects of no longer living in a democracy only that we seem to be the last to find out our system is not working for the people, but for the rich.
