Crush
Pairing: Kiba Inuzuka x Reader
Anime: Naruto
Word count: 1049
Warnings: No warnings, fem!reader
Prompt: “Oh my god! Him? You like him?”
Tumblr media
Having a crush on someone is like feeling butterflies in your stomach when you finally see them for the first time in the day. You get giddy and suddenly it’s hard to not smile when they’re standing in front of you. It’s hard not thinking about them, you think about him when you wake up, when you eat lunch even when you’re sleeping. You find yourself craving his presence, even if he wasn’t talking to you, just him being around is enough.
That’s what having a crush is supposed to feel like.
You on the other hand wish you can dump these feelings in a bottle and have it sink to the bottom of the ocean.
On top of thinking about him constantly, which is starting to make you go a bit insane you realize that on days you know your paths will cross you tend to look better than usual. You fix your hair, the make up you decide to put on is almost scary good with how you’ve perfected it and your ninja attire you usually wear you decided to change it up with a different color in hopes he just noticed you. You even started to notice how nervous you grow around him or when he’s in the vicinity you’re not as bad as Hinata when Naruto talks to her but you’re pretty damn close which makes you go insane because that just isn’t you.
~~~
Sitting inside Ichiraku Ramen on one of the open chairs you sit by Hinata who you invited over to have lunch with. You two usually take time out of your week at least once to sit down and have a meal together.
“Hey Hinata. Howd you know you had feelings for Naruto?” You ask while picking out the egg from your ramen while she looks at you with an immediate blush on her cheeks.
“Well… I became interested in him when I was younger, he saved me from bullies when we were kids and even though I wasn’t allowed to be around him I always paid attention to him from that point. I admired him a lot for who he was so the feelings just came naturally, especially as we got older and were around each other more.” She answers in a small voice. You smile at her words. “Why do you ask?” She adds.
You shrug, “Just wondering is all.” She nods and turns around. “Oh hi Kiba.” She smiles at her teammate who sits next to her.
You feel 10 degrees warmer and the small restaurant suddenly felt suffocatingly smaller. You looked down at your food immediately finding it much more interesting than what the boy next to you was saying to your friend. What ramen did you even get? Wasn’t it supposed to have chicken in it? There’s so many vegetables in this. When did the broth-
“Hi (Y/N).” Kiba says with a smile.
You have to acknowledge him. You have to look at him, it’d be rude not to.
Jesus is it getting hot in here?
You hate how tight your chest feels right now, it’s just Kiba. Just Kiba, the same boy you’ve known since the Academy, since watching him lose at the Chunin exams and the same Kiba you’ve known since forever. It’s Kiba, the boy you’ve realized just up until recently that you’ve had a crush on since you can remember.
“Hi…” you say quietly and glance over at him before looking back at your bowl. You can feel your cheeks burning up and curse him for coming in here. You hate being this girl, you don’t get shy, you’re loud and abrasive most days but with Kiba around, you are reduced to a shallow puddle ready for him to step in to.
You’ve ignored and pretty much zoned out all of their conversation until Kiba stands up. You turn your head, and he smiles to the both of you. “I’ll see you two around.” His eyes linger on you for a moment before he leaves past the front banners of the restaurant. You feel your cheeks and they were practically on fire with how flustered you got, you internally sighed. God did you feel like an idiot around him.
You were patting your cheeks, hoping to calm down when Hinata gasped next to you, causing you to quickly look over. “Oh my god! Him? You like him?” She exclaimed. Your mouth opened but nothing came out. “I always noticed you act differently when he was around but that’s why you asked me that question earlier!”
“Shh!” You hush her and look around you two to see if anyone was walking by. “Don’t say anything to anyone! It’s just a little crush, something that will go away eventually ya know? It’s not like Kiba would even like me back so there’s no point in saying anything to anyone. Let alone him, right?” You rush all of the words out as quick as you can.
“Are you trying to convince me that you don’t really have a crush or yourself?” She asks.
“It just wouldn’t matter if I told him or not okay?”
You huff a big sigh and Hinata can’t help but frown slightly. She knows your feelings now, you like her teammate, but her teammate has almost said the exact same thing to her about you, give or take a few words. Kiba wanted to spend more time with you, but with you never saying more than a small greeting to him he thought it was pointless and he wouldn’t have a chance. Kiba seeing you and Hinata eating was just a perfect excuse to see you. He likes seeing you around the village, he liked being in your presence, he just liked everything about you.
He stayed back on the side of the ramen shop once he heard Hinata’s voice raise when he left. His curiosity getting the better of him he eavesdropped on your conversation. He waited a few moments and after hearing you admit, you also have feelings for him, his feet seemed to have a mind of their own because before he knew it, he was walking back into Ichiraku and was standing in front of you. You stared up at him with wide eyes and mouth agape.
Gorgeous
Pairings: Neji x Y/N
Song reference/inspiration: Gorgeous by Taylor Swift
Summary: You hate Neji… or do you?
A/N: I didn’t know what came over me please don’t sue 🤣 Please let me know your thoughts, although I couldn’t really reply since this isn’t my main blog... (I just really like reading your comments & reblogs 🥺)
Tumblr media
You always thought the gods above adore you because of how lucky you are. For years of being a shinobi, you’re able to go on missions without that certain someone.
Everyone knows that you dislike Neji. Some might even go far and say you hate him. But no one really knew why you hated him with so much passion.
So when you’ve been assigned on a mission with him for the first time, your friends — with the exception of Hinata —immediately know you’d invite them for drinks to get piss drunk and rant about the Hyuga boy.
When you arrive at the bar, you wasted no time ordering drinks and downing them one by one.
“Woah, slow down Y/N!” Sakura says.
“Let her be, Sakura. You know how she gets when Neji is involved,” Ino tells Sakura, “No words are going to stop her, might as well just look over her.”
Sakura gives her a frown then slips in glasses of water in between the drinks you had lined up.
“Ugh, I hate this! Why do I even have to be assigned with him?” You complain.
Ino sighs, “It was bound to happen anyway, with the shortage of shinobis from the back-to-back attacks here in Konoha, and all that. You’ve been lucky you hadn’t been assigned on missions with him for this long.”
You huff. “The gods hate me so much.”
Ino just rolls her eyes at you.
“Why do you hate Neji so much anyway?” Sakura asks.
You take a shot before answering. “Have you heard how he talks? He’s always talking about destinies and fates and how we can’t change them!”
Sakura and Ino look at each other. Then Sakura says, “I don’t know what year you live in, but Neji has changed ever since he met Naruto.”
“—And besides that,” you continue your rant, “He’s such a know-it-all. And he just always has to explain everything to us like we don’t understand anything.”
“I mean he’s really good at analyzing things and breaking them down for us so we can follow the reasoning behind things,” Sakura says in defense of the poor man.
“Shikamaru is just the same but I don’t see you hating on him,” Ino adds.
You pay no mind to their statements, knowing they’re probably right but you weren’t just going to admit that. “—And he always sounds so bossy! Everyone looks up to him and heeds his words. It’s like he has this magnetic field that attracts people and shit. It’s so fucking annoying!”
Ino and Sakura were both about to say something about your statements but no words came out despite them opening their mouths. You squint at them, a contrast to the way their eyes had widened.
“What?” You ask.
“I think we should talk, you’re being a little too loud,” someone behind you says.
You bite the inside of your cheeks, knowing who that voice belongs to. You feel your face getting hot — from the embarrassment or from the alcohol, you weren’t sure. You clear your throat, look behind you and greet, “Neji.” You try to make your voice sound friendly, but you were so used to saying his name laced with venom that it’s just impossible for you to sound amicable.
He’s taken aback by the hostility in your voice. He’s aware of your hatred towards him so he tries not to bother you with his presence but you’re talking too loudly about him that it was becoming uncomfortable to him. Besides, you two are going to go on a mission together, it’s better to resolve things between the two of you right now, or at least before the mission starts.
Neji knows he hasn’t done anything to wrong you and as far as he’s concerned, both of you never talked to each other yet so he wasn’t really sure why you despised him so much, until now, that is.
He holds his hand out for you to help you stand. How gentlemanly, you wanted to sneer but you stopped yourself. Instead, you clench your fists and glare at him.
When you don’t make a move to stand up, he gently grabs a hold of your hand and tugs you towards the exit of the bar. You’re too shocked by the action that you didn’t get to protest. You know damn well Neji avoids physical contact with everyone, except during training, of course.
By the time you’re both out of the bar, you aim a punch at him. But with your drunkenness, you miss. That, and he easily dodged it.
“What are you doing?!” Neji asks, surprised by your action.
“You should think about the consequence of touching my hand.”
His brows furrow, trying to understand you. He doesn’t want to make things worse so he chooses to apologize instead.
You don’t respond, opting to lean back against the wall and cross your arms instead, considering your abrupt movement made your head feel dizzy. You tried not to wince at the pounding of your head. God forbid you’d let him see any weakness in you.
Then you take a look at Neji who seems to have shifted to a more relaxed stance after your unexpected attack. Seeing this, you try to collect yourself as well. Or at least as much as your drunk mind can.
Neji takes your silence as a signal to talk. “We’ve known each other for so long now because we have the same circle of friends, but we never really got to talk to each other until now,” he starts. “I have seen you interact with everyone except me. At first it did not really bother me, but then I found out you hated me. In order to avoid unnecessary arguments or whatsoever, I let you be and kept my distance. I did not understand why, until I heard you talking a while ago—”
There was something unnerving about his lavender eyes staring at you so intently that must’ve made your mind short circuit, so you cut him off and blurt out, “You should take that as a compliment.”
To say that Neji is confused is an understatement. The creases on his forehead deepen at your declaration. “What do you mean?”
You close your eyes and just shrug. Your mind wasn’t cooperating with you so you’d rather just not talk. You keep silent for a whole minute meanwhile Neji waits until you speak again. When the minute passes and he still hasn’t said a word, you ask, “Why don’t you just go back to Tenten or something?”
That sounded wrong.
Frankly, that wasn’t what you plan on saying, but your inebriated mind couldn’t comprehend what you just said and its possible implication.
If other people were to listen to your conversation right now, they would probably assume that you were jealous, or maybe even insecure with Tenten, but Neji was different from other people. Luckily for you, you both share a similar way of thinking. He knows you’re trying to deflect.
“Tenten’s your girlfriend, right?” You couldn’t stop your mouth from blabbering anymore.
“No. She’s a friend.”
This was news to you. You always assumed they were together since they spend a huge amount of time with each other.
“So you’re single?”
“Yes.”
“Ugh, that’s honestly worse,” you thought. Or at least you intended it to be just a thought but you ended up saying it out loud.
Neji doesn’t know if he should be offended by your statement or not. Was it worse because no one’s going to keep him in line? Shouldn’t you be glad no one’s going to suffer the fate of being his girlfriend? Those were definitely something you’d say. But he’s uncertain, so he pushed those thoughts aside, knowing full well you weren’t going to answer him properly if he asked the meaning behind your words.
Since you’re so keen on changing the subject regarding your hatred for him when he’s obviously trying hard to make amends with you, he decides to just drop it and talk to you when you’re completely sober. “Is Kiba going to come get you?”
“Why should he?” It was your turn to furrow your brows.
“You’re drunk and he’s your boyfriend.”
You snort. If he said you were seeing Kiba then you definitely wouldn’t deny it and you’d shut your mouth. You aren’t in a relationship with him, or maybe you are, if friends-with-benefits is considered a relationship. So Kiba is in no way your boyfriend — that label entails commitment and of course, love. However, your setup with Kiba was more of an agreement rather than a commitment and instead of romantic love, there was only love for a friend.
To correct him you say, “He’s not really my boyfriend.”
Neji was never one to assume unless there’s a basis. He knows this about himself. So when you deny your relationship with Kiba, he was skeptical, and a smaller part of him was ashamed that he reached such a conclusion without asking first.
It only goes to show that you both have wrong preconceptions about each other, and that you both have a lot to learn about one another.
“Ah, sorry. I thought—”
“It’s fine,” you wave him off.
Neji’s eye twitches. You cut him off twice now and he doesn’t appreciate it at all. He’s a very patient man and it takes a lot to get a rise out of him or maybe even get a reaction. But you had him shift from being apologetic to confused to ashamed and then to being annoyed in a matter of minutes.
Surely this wasn’t normal, right? What kind of power do you hold that you could make him easily shift moods? For a moment, he considers the possibility of you casting a genjutsu on him but quickly dismisses the thought when he senses that your chakra flow is normal.
You quickly notice his annoyance and you immediately feel bad for your actions. “‘M sorry,” you mumble with a pout, looking down on your feet.
The apology softens the Hyuga boy immediately. He’s never really heard you address him so sincerely and without malice all throughout this conversation, or ever. But he’s seen you do this with your other friends; he’s seen you readily set aside your pride for them. Your friends admittedly claimed that this was one of your traits that makes you so special whenever they tried coaxing him to talk to you and befriend you.
Unexpectedly, Neji smiles. It was truly a rare sight, and it was directed to you. You feel your heart flutter.
“I-I should, uhm, head home,” you internally cringe at the way you stuttered the words.
“What about Ino and Sakura?”
“Ah, I’m pretty sure they’ve gone ahead when I left.”
“And Kiba won’t pick you up?”
“Nope. He’s somewhere doing god knows what.”
Neji gives a contemplative stare.
“Anyway, I think you already know that we won’t be able to talk properly since I’m drunk, so I’ll go now. Let’s talk some other time, I guess. Bye!” You say a little too fast.
“Wait! Let me walk you home.”
You huff. “Do whatever you want.”
Silence follows after that. You’re particularly happy that the walk to your home is quick since you aren’t sure how to act around Neji.
He walks you until the door and you quickly mumble a thanks and shut the door.
As soon as the door is shut, you immediately slump to the floor, dropping your facade along the way.
The fact of the matter is that you don’t hate Neji. It’s quite the opposite actually. You just don’t know how to express your feelings properly.
For a moment you wish you could be like Hinata who’s content at watching Naruto from the sidelines. You, however, instead of feeling content, you’re furious. Because there’s nothing you hate more than what you can’t have. And this is what your face chooses to express whenever Neji is around, which is why you couldn’t blame your friends or other people for that matter when they assumed you hated him. You just went along with them, to save face.
The white lie was furthered by their observation that you don’t talk to him. To your defense, it’s not that you don’t want to talk to him, it’s just that you can’t. Your mind literally goes haywire.
Just like in your conversation earlier. When you first cut him off, and blurted out the first thing on your mind.
You should take that as a compliment.
What your mind wanted to say is: You should take that as a compliment because even when I’m drunk, it’s you I keep on thinking about.
Not to mention how embarrassing it was when you asked if he’s single and thought that that was so much worse than being in a relationship. Because how can he be allowed to be single when he’s just so gorgeous it actually hurts?
You bang your head against the door a couple of times in frustration.
Unbeknownst to you, Neji is still standing on the other side of the door, dumbfounded by how fast you shut it in front of his face. Just as he’s about to walk away, he hears a whack on the door. His mind immediately assumes you got hurt. As he raises his hand to knock on your door, he stills at the sound of your voice.
“Stupid Neji and his stupidly gorgeous face, ruining my life by not being mine.”
Sleep Over’s and Ghost Stories
AU: Rural Au
Words: 2289
Rating: General
Characters: Hatake Kakashi and Tenzo|Yamato
Warnings: Ghost stories, Mentions of blood.
Summary: Naruto informs Kakashi that he has invited his friends over for a sleepover at their ranch that night. Knowing he can’t do everything himself to get ready to host a bunch of kids, Kakashi calls in some help.
Warning wasn’t something that Naruto had given Kakashi a lot of that afternoon when he came running into the house after a long day of school and announced that he had invited his classmates over for a camping sleepover, tonight.
Any less warning and Kakashi might not have been able to secure any help for the night, leaving him to take care of all of the food prep, wood gathering, and other chores that needed to be done while Naruto took the trunk into town to get enough marshmallows to feed an army.
That was an understatement of course. It was more likely that they could feed all of Konoha with the number of Marshmallows he had bought. At least he had also thought ahead and gotten eggs and bacon for tomorrow’s breakfast, which Kakashi had no doubt he would be cooking.
Panicking over the amount of work that was being handed to him, and wanting someone there to help him out, Kakashi decided to call the best person to help him out for the night.
Gai had unfortunately informed him that he had to head into the city the next morning for a supply run, meaning Kakashi had to call his other best friend. An unpleasant call to make since he knew that Tenzo had planned to go to the lake tomorrow for a relaxing day by himself.
Thankfully with enough pleading and a promise to go to the lake next week with Tenzo, he finally secured some help for the night.
Which was how he ended up here. Setting up a bonfire for the kids while Tenzo and Naruto put out chairs for everyone.
“Did you buy enough non-marshmallow snacks?” He called over to Naruto, wanting to make sure that no one was left hungry tonight.
“I even made sure to pick up extra bags of everything for Choji,” Naruto beamed. “And I asked Choji to bring some snacks from the bakery, Sakura to grab some stuff from the general store, and Kiba’s even bringing some dog food because I told him it was the only way you’d let him pet Pakkun.”
This must be one of those ‘proud dad’ moments that Gai was always talking about.
Tenzo, on the other hand, didn’t seem as happy about Naruto’s underhandedness, judging by the unimpressed look on his face. “Some days I wonder how you two get along, and then moments like this happen,” crossing his arms over his chest he turned to glare at Kakashi. “Quit teaching him bad habits, Senpai.”
They both knew that was never going to happen of course. Kakashi loved teaching Naruto all of his worst habits. It ensured that there would always be someone in the village to mess with other people, even long after Kakashi was gone.
“I also asked Sasuke to bring some cat food,” Naruto added. “Once Kakashi Nii-san told me you were coming over to help. He said he could bring a bag of cat food that Itachi made himself. Something that your cats would love.”
Tenzo’s hands dropped to his side, a small smile pulling at the corner of his lips.
“I see,” his voice softened. “Still, you shouldn’t lie to Kiba to get free food for the dogs.”
“He’s right you know,” Kakashi added, smiling when Tenzo gave him a skeptical look. “But really it’s Kiba’s fault for believing you. Everyone knows Pakkun won’t let anyone pet him but me.”
Ok, him and Gai, and sometimes Tenzo depending on how nice the pug was feeling.
“Senpai, what did I just say about teaching him bad habits!?”
Resting his hands behind his head, Kakashi chuckled when Tenzo started to lecture him about the importance of friendship and trust. This wasn’t the first time he had gotten this exact lecture and there was no doubt in his mind that it wouldn’t be the last. Tenzo gave it to him at least once a week after he used his friends’ love of praise to get a free coffee or lunch out of him.
Meanwhile, Naruto continued to set everything up. Far too used to Kakashi and Tenzo’s arguments he had learned long ago to tune them out and keep doing whatever it was he was in the middle of.
It was simply better not to interrupt Tenzo, or one risked him dragging them into the lecture. Naruto was already lucky he wasn’t getting it alongside Kakashi since it had been his actions that upset the woodcarver.
“Oh!” reaching out, Kakashi placed one hand over Tenzo’s mouth to silence him and used the other to point towards the driveway. “Naruto, your friends are starting to arrive.”
Naruto immediately dropped what he was doing and turned towards the driveway, throwing his hands up into the air when he saw Itachi’s car pulling in beside Tenzo’s truck. “Sasuke!” He called out, running towards the driveway and leaving Kakashi and Tenzo to finish up with the bonfire set up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Once everything had been set up and all of Naruto’s school friends had finally arrived, it was finally time to relax and enjoy the rest of the night. At least, enjoy as much of the night as one could while Kiba was sitting beside him trying desperately to pet the pug dog sitting on his lap.
“He’s going to bite you,” he warned, chuckling when Kiba continued to ignore him and narrowly avoided getting his hand chomped by Pakkun. “I told you.”
“He’s supposed to love me,” Kiba huffed, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring down at Pakkun. “All dogs love me.”
“Pakkun’s a picky dog,” scratching the pug behind the ears, Kakashi chuckled when he instantly relaxed into his hand. Forgetting all about the mean teenager who had been interrupting his relaxing nap just seconds ago. “You have seven other dogs to play with on this ranch. I don’t see why you’re so determined about getting Pakkun to like you.”
“All dogs should like me,” planting his hands on the chair, Kiba glared back at Pakkun from the corner of his eyes. “I’m a dog person. All dogs love me.”
Giving his head a shake Kakashi turned his attention back to the rest of the group and continued to scratch Pakkun’s ear. It was amusing to see Kiba continuously trying to win his favourite dog over, but at some point, the kid had to give up.
When feeding Pakkun treats didn’t work, it was a lost cause. He had chosen his favourite human and he simply wasn’t interested in anyone to who Kakashi wasn’t incredibly close.
“We should do something interesting,” Glancing towards Tenzo, Kakashi raised an eyebrow when he saw him staring at Naruto and all of his friends huddled around the fire roasting marshmallows. “It’s too quiet. Something interesting has to happen.”
And Tenzo accused him of being a bad influence.
“Mmm, and what ‘interesting’ thing would you like to happen?” Watching as Tenzo leaned in close, Kakashi listened to his plan carefully. A small smile pulling at his lips.
This was going to be perfect.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Catching the attention of the kids hadn’t been as hard as Kakashi thought it would be. With the simple mention of a ghost story, he suddenly found himself surrounded by excited, bright-eyed kids waiting patiently for him to tell them the story.
Now he just had to hope that Tenzo was ready to put his plan into action.
“The tale of old man Tobirama, hmmm. Well, I guess you’re all old enough to hear it now. But don’t come crying to me if you end up having nightmares for years about it.”
“Kakashi, stop teasing us and tell us the story already.” Naruto insisted, puffing out his cheeks and glaring at his guardian.
“I bet it’s not even that scary,” Sakura commented, acting like she wasn’t leaning in to hear better. “‘Old man Tobirama’. There probably wasn’t even anyone named ‘Tobirama’ in our village.”
Oh, boy were they in for a surprise.
“Well, in the case,” leaning forward, Kakashi planted his hands on his knees and smiled down at the group. “Let me tell you the story of old man Tobirama. The grumpy old guy who lived in the old Senju ranch and would cook up children for dinner.”
At the mention of the Senju ranch, he could see the kids already starting to shake.
“Long ago, before I was even born, the Senju ranch was full of life. With a large family, parties every weekend, and a garden that could make anyone jealous. They were known for having the best fruits and vegetables in all of Konoha, though back then the village was a lot smaller so who knows how good they were.”
He’d probably get smacked by Tsunade for saying it, but it was worth it for the giggles he got from his audience.
“For the longest time, the Senju’s lived in the village peacefully. Mingling with the other villages, trading their fruits and veggies for other goods that they could use. But then one day the Senju’s just stopped coming into town. It was like they disappeared. No one knew what had happened to them, but there were rumors. Little whispers that floated around the village about the middle child, Tobirama.”
Naruto shivered in front of him, Sakura slinked behind Ino just a little, and Kiba used Bull as a shield from Kakashi. So far, none of the other kids were showing much of a reaction except for prompting Kakashi to continue with the story.
“For years the house lay empty. No one going in or out. It slowly started to decay and rot from the inside, and the garden became overgrown. Surrounding the house with vines, vegetables, and fruits. There wasn’t an inch of the place that was accessible. After fifty years the villagers finally got together and made a decision. The house had to come down.”
“This is boring,” Sasuke interrupted him. The same unimpressed look on his face that he always had when someone other than his big brother was talking. “Nothing is even happening.”
Giving his head a shake, Kakashi reached out and flicked Sasuke in the nose.
“Hasn’t Itachi taught you anything about patience, brat?” he teased. “I’m just getting to the good part. Now shush.”
Settling back into his seat, Kakashi returned his hand to Pakkun’s head and took a deep breath. “Anyways, the villagers had made their decision. They found a group of hard workers to tear down the old building and started to gather all of the equipment that they would need. A week later the workers were ready to head onto the property and start with the demolition. They hoped that it would only take a few days, but as the hours passed by, they slowly started to disappear one by one.”
Sakura was now completely hidden behind Ino, and it looked like Ino wasn’t doing much better. Her face had lost all colour, and her eyes were wide with fear.
Naruto had slowly begun to inch away from Kakashi, using any of his friends that were readily available as a shield between himself and his guardian. Hinata was cowering behind her favourite hoodie, only her eyes visible.
The only people who didn’t look fazed by his story were Sasuke, Shikamaru, and Shino. None of which were a surprise given their personalities.
He just had to hope that Tenzo pulled through and managed to fix that.
“By the end of the day the only person left was a young woman. Desperate to find the rest of her group she searched the entire house. Looking in every bedroom, searching the yard and even the attic. But no matter how often she called out to them, or where she looked, she couldn’t find them anywhere. Finally, she was left with only one place to look. The old cellar under the kitchen.”
There were a few mummers in the crowd, and at least one ‘not the cellar’ spoken in a whisper somewhere behind Shikamaru.
“Pulling up all of her courage, she headed for her new destination. The door to the cellar creaked as she pulled it open, but when she peered down there was nothing but darkness. She called out to the others, but no one answered.”
Naruto shifted a bit closer to Sasuke, nudging his shoulder until the Uchiha finally gave in and threw an arm around him.
“Taking the first step down the stairs, she held her breath. The stories villagers had told her growing up swimming in her mind. Images of Senju Tobirama, a teenager with bright silver hair and angry red eyes, wielding a bloody ax in his hands. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get rid of those thoughts, and every step she took down into the cellar felt like it would be her last. But finally, she made it to the bottom of the stairs and reached out for the cellar lights pull cord, hoping to add some light to the room. Finding it in the pitch black, she tugged at it and…”
“She was met with the face of Senju Tobirama!” Jumping up behind the kids, Tenzo flashed the light under his chin and warped his face into the most haunting face he could manage. With wide creepy eyes, and his mouth hanging open with what Kakashi could only assume was ketchup smeared all over his chin, Tenzo sent every single one of the kids scattering. Screams filled the air, only slightly drowned out by Kakashi and Tenzo’s laughter.
If Kakashi had been smart he would have brought a camera. There was no way Itachi was going to believe him the next morning when he told him about the look of absolute terror on Sasuke’s face.
Prev. -- Next -- Masterpost
Sasuke lands with a soft hush in front of the Honen-in temple. He had to put shoes on, but that doesn’t make it any more pleasant to bounce on the ground, so he takes to hovering again. His cloaking is decent enough that the humans won’t notice. It doesn’t matter anyway – there is no one there.
The wind dies down. Sasuke is alone.
They chose a secluded temple – or secluded enough, compared to the bigger and more crowded ones – but still, this is closer to any big city than Sasuke has ever been. Even if he can only see trees and bushes, even if he can only hear birds and the soft trickling of a water source nearby, he still knows, still feels that this place has nothing to do with his mountain. The human-made currents easily overpower the natural ones here. The electricity, the communication lines, all those signals they send each other, are much stronger than the trees’ conversation and the wind bustling around the leaves.
Sasuke shakes his head – it wouldn’t do to get homesick already. He hopes someone will be here soon. He needs the distraction.
A few minutes pass, enough for him to start worrying that they didn’t get the time or the location right, to tie and untie the chords of his hoodie into good luck knots several times. Until there is a rustle in the leaves, until the chill in the air is gone and…
“Hi!”
The fox is young. He looks like a teenager, like Sasuke does. They don’t assume an adult form unless they are over a century old – or so it goes for tengu anyway. What about kitsune? Sasuke should have studied more.
“It’s Sasuke, isn’t it? Sorry I’m late, the bus ran into traffic. I should have brought some luck but we’ve been saving it to get good weather for the Inari-sai… It’s Sasuke, isn’t it? My mom sent me to welcome you! Did you wait long?”
His hair is blond, sticking up in all directions, catching the sun in fiery reflections. Sasuke can see his ears and tails flicker in and out at the corner of his eyes. He counts four tails – only one tail over being able to assume human form, though there is no telling how long ago that was.
His clothes are a bit… Sasuke can only say gaudy. There is a huge, colorful depiction of a cintamani, a wish fulfilling-jewel, printed on his yellow t-shirt. He is also wearing a ratty pair of cargo shorts and equally ratty sneakers, also of many colors, though not the ones of the shirt.
Sasuke wonders how well he blends in among the humans, before admonishing himself for his rudeness. The boy is more experienced than he is in this – if this is how he dresses, then surely it is not an issue.
He also sports a huge smile, stretching high on his cheeks and full of pointy teeth. It would feel a bit threatening if the fox didn’t look so genuinely happy to be here. His whiskers are etched into his cheeks, even in his human form. His voice is high and changing, like a song. Oh. He is talking.
“…really sorry! I’ll make it up to you, please don’t tell my mom, she’ll get mad at me. She told me to leave in advance, but Kiba came by with a jinmenken and his face looked just like our old school teacher and…”
“I didn’t wait long.”
Sasuke half expects the boy to miss it entirely, but he shuts his mouth and beams again, relieved.
“Cool! Let’s go then. My mom is waiting for us, but later I’ll show you around! It’s your first time in Kyoto right? Is it okay if we take the bus? I’ll buy you a ticket. Usually I take my bike but well… Oh! We should get you one!”
They start to move down the stone path and Sasuke has a hard time keeping track of what the boy is babbling out. He talks fast, with an accent Sasuke has never heard and some words he doesn’t recognize – he can’t say if it’s because they are local idioms or just refer to human things he doesn’t know. The bus, he knows, and he can’t say he looks forward to it. At least the boy seems content to do all the talking, so Sasuke follows him in silence.
They pass a blooming jinmenju, its hanging face-shaped fruits laughing softly at them, but otherwise the forest seems scarce of spiritual presence. He wonders if they hide well or if they have just deserted this spot – the path gets busier as they go down, growing loud with footsteps and conversations.
They will go through the grounds of Ginkaku-ji, the boy explains, one of the most visited in Kyoto, especially during spring.
Sasuke has never seen so many humans at the same time.
The widest groups to go up his mountain would be just enough to fill one of those dreaded buses. As they near the temple’s entrance, they cross paths with dozens of people of all ages. There are even foreigners, with their light skin and hair, saddled with heavy backpacks, clutching at maps and opening round eyes all around them. He shifts uncomfortably under the few gazes that land on him.
It is an odd relief to spot the otoroshi perched on the main gate to the temple, its long hair dangling over the edge of the rooftop as it peers at the passerby. In broad daylight and with so many people, it won’t punish any of their missteps, though Sasuke imagines they are numerous.
“It enforces temple rules,” the boy comments. He points at a sign, on the side of the gate. No picking flowers and other vegetation, no feeding the koi and birds, no flying drones, no littering, no shouting,…
“Are those sacred?” Sasuke can’t help but ask. Otoroshi protect the sanctity of the temples and give a good scare to those who disrespect it. But few of these people come here to worship.
“Sacred enough to him,” the boy shrug. He waves at the otoroshi, earning a widening of its toothless grin.
“The one living in my mountain was very different,” Sasuke adds, thinking about the abandoned shrine laying below their own temple. Its residents had longed deserted it, leaving the otoroshi to guard it against intruders. They would hear the loud “thump” of the yokai falling from the torii gate at odd hours of the night, signifying it had to scare away yet another wandering human. It was more and more frequent lately.
“Oh, that’s right, you’re from the Hira mountains, right? Were there many spirits leaving up there with you? I guess the ones from the city are quite different…” “Have you never been to a more…”
He doesn’t find the word. A more worthy place? More pleasant? Fortunately, the boy doesn’t seem to catch on his hesitation. He barrels in – he seems good at it.
“Nah, never left Kyoto much. We hike up around here all the time but I guess it’s not the same.”
Sasuke finds it sad. But then again, he has never set foot out of his mountain himself, and maybe the boy would find that sad.
It occurs to him them, that he’s been calling him “the boy” and “the fox” in his head. That he didn’t get his name.
.
Notes - Ginkaku-ji is a big popular temple on the ouskirt of Kyoto, Honen-in a much smaller and less known one that is not too far.
Jinmenju are trees with fruits shapes like human head that just laugh at you when you pass, and jinmenken are dogs with a human face.
CHAPTER 7 of Itachi Uchiha x OC Yuri!
I’ll get into an updating groove at some point but school and work are killers right now😓
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Why don't you tell us who you are? What's an Akatsuki member doing by themselves?"
"Ah-choo! Akatsuki? What's that?"
It looked like I may have upset each of them a little. "What do you mean 'what's that?' Are you messin with me?!" The blonde kid grabbed Itachi's cloak and lifted me off the ground with it.
"P-please let g-go." I grunted and tried to pull off his iron grip, but it was useless with my sickened state.
"We need information out of her, Naruto, let her go!" The kid seemed to listen to the pink haired girl. "Here, let me patch you up."
"Thanks... but why would you do that for me?"
"Because, that's just what we do. We're leaf shinobi after all!"
After Sakura healed me, the others asked their questions. "So what happened to the land of flowers?"
"Oh... well I guess since I left, the vegetation has rotted away."
"Why would it matter if you were there or not?"
"My family and I have this strange power that allows life to thrive all around us. My grandpa moved to the land of flowers about 80 years ago and I lived there up until three months ago."
"Okay," The leader sat in front of me. "How did the people die then?"
"Oh... the villagers turned on me. They didn't like me much to begin with but they- they tried to kill me." I hung my head out of shame and bit my lip to try and contain my emotions.
"So you killed them?"
"No! Some people I met saved me."
"Hm." He thought for a moment then retuned his attention to me. "So how did you get mixed up with the Akatsuki?"
"What the hell even is that? You keep saying it but I don't understand what you're talking about. Why do you think I'm even associated with those 'terrible' people in the first place?"
There was silence amongst them. It was as if they were trying to understand if I was actually telling the truth or not. "The cloak you're we-“
"There you are, little flower." That sounds like-!
"Kisame!" I stood up and pranced over to him. "I didn't think you came!"
"Of course I did. We just let you stay with Itachi's shadow clone while we rested. Speaking of which, you look so small in his cloak. Haha."
"I-Itachi?" I heard Naruto stutter.
"That's Kisame Hoshigaki! One of the seven swordsmen of the mist! We have to get out of here!" This Shikamaru seemed concerned too.
"You won't be going anywhere-"
I held out my arms to shield the group. "That's enough, Kisame! You're gonna scare my new ninja friends!"
"Friends?" Itachi's voice appeared next to me.
"Itachi.. Uchiha?!"
"Of course. They're really pleasant and nice when you get to know them. Isn't that right?" I look to the group to urge them to defend themselves.
"R-right!" Said the girls. The rest of the group seemed uneasy and unsure of what their next step should be.
"As far as I'm concerned," Itachi started. "They hurt you. That's unacceptable. Besides, they have the nine tails with them." Itachi's eyes changed from brown to red. He seemed upset, but, maybe, hesitant to do anything to the group.
'Oh no. What should I do?' I formed a thick wall of shrubs in front of the kids and commanded a burst of pollen to act as a smoke screen and deterrent.
"Tch. I can still find them, Yuri."
"I know that but you'll stay right here. Both of you will!"
Both of the men complied and gave up on going after the shinobi when they realized how difficult it would be to get past my complaints.
"Anyway what's this Akatsuki group they kept asking me about?"
Leaf ninja:
"Well she helped us out so that's good!" Kiba and Akamaru were at the front of the group.
"Man! I wanna go back and fight!"
"No, Naruto! We don't know if the enemy is following us or not."
"They aren't." Hinata quickly scanned the area. "My byakugan isn't picking them up anywhere close by. They're still next to Yuri."
"At any rate, we have to report back to Lady Tsunade ASAP."
"Right!" They sang out.
~~~~~~
"I see. So that's what happened, huh?" Tsunade processed everything her group told her.
"Yes, milady."
"After you all have rested up, I want you to go find this woman and bring her to me. I'll assign a couple more people and spilt into smaller three-man groups since we're dealing with the Akatsuki."
"What?! Why do you want us to do that?" Sakura couldn't understand why the hokage would want to capture the girl.
"Well think about it," Shikamaru explained. "If she's with the Akatsuki they might try to use her powers for something. Seeing as she doesn't have any fighting skills or knowledge of who they are makes her easy to control. She's putty in the palm of their hand."
"Those jerks! They won't get away with that!"
"Yeah, yeah, Naruto. We'll get her when we head out next. My feet are killin me!"
Yuri's group:
After the Leaf ninja escaped, both Akatsuki members  prepared for the evening. Yuri's question remained unanswered because Kisame couldn't be bothered and Itachi chose not to respond to her.
Yuri went into the woods to grab some extra firewood for the night. "Here. I'll join you." Uchiha lead the way into the forest and aided the search.
"Hey, Itachi,"
"I'm listening."
Yuri wanted to know more about this man so she asked, "is there anyone you care about?"
"What do you mean?" At this point, the only one making a real effort to gather wood was Itachi. Yuri was fiddling with a twig.
"Uh- I don't know... I guess just anyone. An older sister? Next door neighbor? M-maybe even a lover?" Despite her embarrassment about the topic she started, she found herself choosing bold words which piqued the man's interest.
He stepped to the small pile he made before sitting down. "I have a younger brother, if that's what you mean to ask."
"Really? What's his name?" She sat beside him.
"His name is Sasuke." Yuri let Itachi talk about his younger brother without interrupting because she noticed the glimmer of pride in his eyes. He then went on to tell her about his late best friend, too. She noticed the aching pain of it all, but didn't want to ruin his mood by asking. This is the happiest she had seen him since they met.
"I'm glad you have him. He sounds like a smart kid! I'm sorry about your friend. He sounds kind." Yuri showed a genuine smile then looked back to the stars. "I don't really have anyone like that anymore and I've never had any siblings, so I don't have anyone that I'm able to care for. My parents weren't around much either."
Tilting his head up, the Uchiha said, "I'm sure that one day you'll find someone important to you."
Itachi's soft voice and calming presence had always put Yuri's mind at ease. Never had she felt unsafe when he was around.
'How could those kids so scared?' She thought to herself. This one person had a place in her heart that she couldn't ignore. 'I've never felt something like this before, but... he is special to me.'
Yuri buried her head in her arms and sighed. "Yeah. I think... that person is you now."
"Hm?" He pressed and she quickly sat up, trying to direct the attention in her high pitched voice. Itachi chuckled and took them both back to the fire so they could sleep.
But I Like One Piece (3)
Her schedule becomes much busier after that.
She gets up an hour before training with Gai-sensei and goes to get Naruto. He’s taken to setting up traps again to dissuade her, growing more complex and subtle by the day.
She’s getting very good at dodging and disarming them.
They train with Gai-sensei for two hours. Usually running laps and doing katas focused on fluidity and strength. He seems to have taken Sanji’s creed as a personal challenge and she’s usually wearing mitten-like weights over her hands or has her arms tied behind her back.
After training, she returns home to practice katas with her father, using a smaller bokken.
She has a very short amount of time to shower and get dressed before Naruto arrives for breakfast with her family.
Sometimes Gai-sensei joins them, and she never knew embarrassment before she had to watch her parents try not to swoon over his every word. She suspects both Okaa-sama and Otou-sama have crushes on him.
Naruto grimaces next to her and they eat their food in double time and shout their goodbyes as they run to the Academy.
They eat lunch separately.
It’s Naruto’s idea, and rather ingenious if she does say so.
They sit at opposite ends of the same table while Ino, Sakura, Shikamaru (sleepy guy), Chouji, and Kiba are spread out between them. She knows their names now. Ino made sure of it.
Ino and Sakura try to get her involved in girl talk, Chouji alternates between talking to her about cooking and to Shikamaru about classes, while Kiba and Naruto discuss what kind of cool ninja moves they know and will learn next year.
They’re close enough that it still feels like they’re spending time together, but the conversation and slight dispersal of the seating positions mean they’re “technically” not eating a meal together.
After the Academy day is over, she goes to the market with her mother to buy groceries. Once they get back, she prepares their lunch boxes the moment groceries are put away, making extra due to the sheer amount of sharing that goes on, with Naruto yelling ridiculous suggestions as Okaa-sama measures him for new clothes.
He seems to be going through a growth spurt, now his body is getting the nutrients it needs.
They finish their homework together in the kitchen while her mother makes dinner. Otou-sama usually arrives in time for them to finish setting the table and they eat dinner together.
On Wednesdays and Fridays they get ramen from Ichiraku’s. Every other weekend is when the Hokage checks in on Naruto, so she’ll not see him for the entire two days.
After Naruto leaves for his curfew, she helps wash the dishes while her parents ensure she’s up to speed on their family history.
She goes to bed early, because she learned quickly not doing so made Gai-sensei’s training that much worse to bear.
They move up a year.
It’s almost a shame, because towards the end there the teacher had begun warming up to Naruto, if saying “Good luck Ketsugi, Uzumaki.” counts as “warming up”.
She supposes she maybe should’ve had a bit more faith in the teacher, even if the woman does have an unhealthy idealization of the World Government-level tyrant Usagi-hime and is completely, totally wrong about pirates being poor role models to aspire to.
Now they’re going to have a new teacher and begin the whole rigmarole over again.
At least their classmates are already used to him, and they get a three week break before the summer term starts.
Her new birthday’s the weekend before classes start up again too, so there’s that.
Naruto’s being stalked.
She notices it a few days into the break, when Okaa-sama begs for them to act their age for once and go play outside instead of just training or cooking.
Naruto knows a good swing set outside the Academy and they spend half an hour trying to see if they can get the swing to go all the way round.
Yes, she has the memories and partial mindset of a twenty year old, but this is the dream of every child who has ever been on a swing, including her, and they are in an anime ninja world.
If there’s anywhere it’ll be possible to fulfill this dream, it’s here.
She’s managed to go almost horizontal on her swing while Naruto whoops in glee behind her, and on the backswing she spots a blur of dark hair hiding behind a tree and watching them.
No, she thinks, slowing a little while Naruto kicks with increased vigor and whoops again once he touches tree branches, the person’s weird pale eyes remaining fixed on his swinging. Watching him.
The stalker follows them everywhere.
She’s getting reasonably sure the stalker is a girl, because just about the only place she doesn’t follow Naruto is the boy’s bathroom.
She’s almost on par with the masks for stealth otherwise, remaining far enough away that it’s not obvious she’s stalking but close enough that she always has a clear line of sight to Naruto.
She’s definitely a member of one of the village clans. Her skills and the symbol on her high-quality clothing attest to that much. But what’s her interest in Naruto?
She waits a minute after Naruto enters the bathroom, and then walks towards the stalker.
The girl knows better than to run and draw attention to herself, but she does backpedal a bit.
“Look,” She says, not unkindly. “I don’t know who you are. I don’t know why you’re watching Naruto. I don’t think you want to hurt him, and I’ll let you off so long as you don’t. Just don’t steal any of his underwear, or invade his privacy and make him uncomfortable, or we’ll have problems. Am I clear?”
The girl blushes tomato red. She opens and closes her mouth several times. She flees.
She sighs. The stalker may have just been too shy for her own good, but it’s always wise to nip a potential yandere in the bud before obsession really takes hold.
That weekend they get an addition to their morning training.
Gai-sensei comes striding onto their training field with a boy about their age trotting along behind him. He has a braid and very bushy eyebrows.
“This is Rock Lee!” Gai-sensei says proudly. “He will be joining our most youthful training!”
“I am Rock Lee and I am eight years old.” The boy introduces himself. “I am honored to meet the students of Maito Gai-sensei!”
“I’m Uzumaki Naruto and I’m seven! Imma be the Hokage, believe it!” Naruto cheers, waking up more with the chance to say his dream.
“Ketsugi Mayu. I’ll be seven two weeks from now. It’s nice to meet you, Lee-senpai.” She bows to him.
“Ah! It is I who should be calling you senpai, as you were students of Maito Gai-sensei before me!” Rock Lee insists, eyes shining. What a polite boy.
“Heck yeah! Just call me Naruto-senpai!” Naruto boasts, hands on his hips and nose in the air.
“No, don’t make him do that...”
“HOW YOUTHFUL!!” Gai-sensei roars, tears of joy streaming down his cheeks. The only person she’s ever seen cry more than him is Franky. “It brings me much joy to see my students getting along so well! Yosh! LET US RUN 50 LAPS AROUND KONOHA ON OUR HANDS!!”
“Yes, Gai-sensei!!” Lee yells back.
“Lee!”
“Gai-sensei!”
“Lee!”
“Gai-sensei!”
She and Naruto share a horrified glance. Oh god there’s two of them now.
There’s a lot of falling on faces, and 50 laps around Konoha do not get completed. They do manage 20 circuits somehow, and Gai-sensei tells them all he’s extremely proud of them.
That’s what’s nice about Gai-sensei. Even if you couldn’t quite reach the goal he set the first time, he’s always encouraging and takes every effort as something to be celebrated and built upon. He makes you want to succeed, but not worry about failing to get there.
They’re doing cool down stretches when Lee’s stomach growls.
Her eyes narrow.
Naruto catches sight of the look on her face and begins snickering.
Gai-sensei, cheerfully oblivious, straightens up. “Yosh! Mayu-chan, would your parents mind if we imposed upon them for breakfast?”
“Of course not Gai-sensei. They’d be delighted to have you.” She smiles.
Lee curls into himself a little, beginning to retreat. “Then I shall meet you all here tomorrow! Have a good morn—”
Her hand clamps down on his arm. She keeps smiling. “Training breakfasts are at my house. Here’s the address for you, so you can join us.”
Lee blinks, eyes shining suspiciously. “Ah...uh..is this...okay?”
“Don’t fight it Lee!” Naruto calls behind her. “Or she’ll hunt you down to feed you, believe it!”
“I did not hunt you down!” She yelps indignantly. “You set traps when I left you food!”
“I just wanted to say thank you!” “With chalk dust?!”
And so Lee joins them for breakfast.
He’s loud and a bit awkward, effusively thanking her parents for even the smallest of things and easily getting caught up in Gai-sensei’s pace.
He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body though, and can be surprisingly level-headed and reliable when not overexcited. Which, admittedly, is a lot of the time.
He also likes her curries, which Naruto wrongly insists are “pure LAVA on a plate, Mayu-chan, curry’s supposed to be sweet and savory, not burn your mouth off!”
She’s just glad she now knows somebody who can appreciate what a real curry is rather than the sweet, spice less sauce that cowards attempt to pretend counts.
Her parents are convinced he’s somehow Gai-sensei’s long lost son. To be fair to them, the eyebrows and enthusiasm are very...similar. Their theorizing ran rampant when Lee mentioned he lived in the Village Orphanage while assuring her he did, in fact, get enough to eat.
Gai-sensei isn’t exactly dissuading these theories with how much he mother-hens the boy either. She suspects he overacts and exaggerates his normal robustness a little bit for Lee, to stop the boy from glancing around during training sessions or meals like he can’t quite believe he deserves to be here.
She can’t exactly criticize, since she and Naruto and Okaa-sama and Otou-sama are also doing all they can to make Lee feel welcome.
The weekend of her birthday isn’t like any birthdays she’s had before in this life.
For all that she grew up in Konoha, she never had any friends before Naruto. Running laps was a much more productive use of her time, even if her mother worried about her being lonely.
A quiet dinner in with her new parents was enough for her.
Naruto missed her sixth birthday because he had to spend the weekend with the Hokage, then insisted on trying to draw Luffy for her from the stories she’s told him as a late birthday present.
It’s not a very accurate drawing—Luffy’s straw hat is upside down and he’s got lasers shooting from his eyes and looks like a distressed noodle overall, but it hangs on her wall all the same.
Naruto has been pulling a vanishing act sporadically throughout the week, which she wasn’t overly concerned about.
She knows about birthday preparations, and if he wants it to be a surprise, she’ll humor him.
Though she did stumble upon a scene where Lee was on one knee in front of Sakura, while Naruto prepared to hit him with a bag of mulch from behind.
All three froze when they realized she was there, stammered out something incomprehensible, and fled like startled mice.
She has no idea what was going on there, but she’d pay good money to find out.
Or at least cook a good meal, because all her ingredient purchases leave her perpetually broke.
Naruto isn’t in his apartment the morning of her birthday.
She gets past all of his traps only to knock on the door and hear no answer. The neighbors yell at her when her repeated hammering on the entrance gets too loud.
Lee isn’t with Gai-sensei when she finally arrives to training. He pointedly ignores all her questions about where the other two are, but teaches her the kata for a dropkick in exchange.
It’s difficult, but the grin she gets when her heel hits the ground and leaves a dent is blinding.
He walks her home too.
That’s when she realizes this was planned.
Sure enough, the curtains on the windows are drawn, and Gai-sensei is a little eager to go ahead of her into the house.
The lights coming on are blinding, and the yell of “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAYU!!” should not be as loud as it is considering there are only five people in the room.
She’s sweaty and worn out and for some reason she can’t stop smiling so hard her cheeks hurt.
Lee and Gai-sensei present her with a set of weights and a few pairs of orange leg warmers to cover them, like the ones they wear on a daily basis. She grins and thinks it might be nice to wear something that reminds her of the two of them and Naruto, who has insisted on getting mainly orange clothing since Okaa-sama once told him he had the coloring for it.
Okaa-sama and Otou-sama give her a book on baking bread that’s about as heavy as the weights and several bags of different types of flour. She hugs them as tightly as she can. There’s wheat and rye and multigrain and gluten-free and she can’t wait to see what she can create with all of this.
Naruto fidgets and shoves a small pot with a rosemary plant in it into her arms. “Ino let me have this if I helped out at the Yamanaka flower shop with her and Sakura-chan, believe it, and she said it tastes really good in food and its name is Habu-san because plants are living things, so they should have names like people and animals do, right?”
She inhales the slightly salty scent.
Later, after she’s finally had a shower and gotten dressed with the addition of the leg warmers, Sakura and Ino will drop by with a set of sparkly silver hair clips and a chef’s hat keychain.
They’ll all go to a restaurant owned by Chouji’s family to eat, and she’ll devour one of the best plates of chicken katsu, intent on figuring out the recipe through taste alone. She’ll share a chocolate cake with Chouji and Naruto, laughing as the latter pouts when describing Lee’s declaration to woo Sakura when he becomes a worthy ninja.
But for now, she just beams at her best friend and tells him, “I really love Habu-san. Thank you so much for giving this to me, Naruto.”
They return to the Academy.
Lee walks with them there, and they wave to each other as they go to their respective classrooms.
Kiba runs up to them within seconds of arriving in their new classroom, a beam on his face so bright it could outshine the sun itself.
“Igotmyninkenpartner!!!” He bursts out, practically vibrating with happiness.
She blinks. Looks at Naruto, who shrugs. Looks back at Kiba. “Beg your pardon?”
He groans, cuddling a bundle close to his chest. As she’s looking down at it, it squirms.
“I. Got. My. Ninken. Partner.” He repeats, with exaggerated slowness. “It’s a huge thing for the Inuzuka! We get chosen by a ninken, and they can understand human speech and learn cool ninja moves with us, so when we grow up we’ll be twice as awesome as any other ninja!!”
“What’s a ninken?” Naruto asks as the bundle squirms again—
And a puppy pops out.
“Meet Akamaru!” Kiba says proudly. Akamaru is white with floppy brown ears and big dark eyes and—
“Akamaru.” She says seriously. “You are a very good boy.”
The puppy yips in response and she could die right then and there from happiness.
This year they’re actually moving into the ninja portion of Academy learning.
The new teacher is a white haired man and he has them sit criss-crossed on the floor.
“Chakra is a force found in all living beings, a combination of their spiritual and physical energy, or yin and yang. It is a ninja’s greatest tool, the source of genjutsu and ninjutsu.” He drones on.
Does it run on midochlorians too? A voice in her head that sounds like her past brother’s mocks.
It just all sounds so inaccurate, like a bunch of different ideas mashed together to seem cool.
At least Devil Fruits were somewhat understandable. Eat a weird fruit, it messes with your genetics, you get powers. Much more plausible.
She pokes Naruto awake again and the teacher glares at them. “Today we’ll focus on basic chakra awareness. I want you to meditate and locate your chakra center.”
The classmates around her close their eyes. After an especially sharp glare, she does so too.
It’s warm in the classroom.
It’s noisy outside, and she can feel Naruto’s knee press into her leg.
She focuses on her breathing. It’s almost peaceful, retreating inside herself like this—
There’s something inside her.
It wasn’t there before.
It doesn’t belong in her.
She thinks it doesn’t like that she’s found it.
It’s like forcibly being made aware of blood circulating through your body. Not simply your heart beating, but the friction as the liquid scrapes through your veins, the pain as the breakneck current is divided and divided again, until dead ends send the liquid flying back to where it came from at the same terrifying speed.
“What the shit?!” She gasps out, eyes flying open.
Then she hears what she just said and claps her hands over her mouth as the children around her break into surprised titters.
The teacher glowers. “Ketsugi, go stand in the hall.”
[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Three Hundred Forty: Moving Out ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Hyūga Hiashi, Hyūga Hanako ] [ SasuHina, pregnancy, death, blood, gore ] [ Verse: Best Years of Your Life ] [ AO3 Link ]
It all happens so suddenly.
Hanako’s second pregnancy hadn’t been without its share of worries. The Hyūga woman seemed to get a little weaker day by day, Hiashi hovering in worry despite her assurances she was fine, just...tired. Her morning sickness was powerful, her aches and pains keeping her in bed more often than not. But if Hanako was anything...it was set in bringing her second daughter into the world. So she endured, her patience never failing as she faced the dawn of every day determined to see its sunset...and do it all over again for as many months as it took.
And then, in late March...Hanabi was born.
Hanako survived, much to the nurses’ surprise. Weary and worn, she’d held the newborn with a sense of pride and relief. “You’ve given me quite a run of it,” she had murmured, Hiashi watching silently. “I’ll be glad to sleep without you kicking me from the inside...now to just handle all your fussing and crying for a while, hm?”
...but she would not get that chance.
Three days after returning home, after a particularly twisting roll over in bed...Hanako inadvertently caused her own demise. Tears from the strain of birth subtly reopened, blood loss unnoticed in her heavy sleep, exhausted from the past nine months. And the heavy drowsiness of an emptying circulatory system only ensured she wouldn’t wake.
Come morning...Hiashi work to a fussy Hanabi, and a dead wife.
Hemorrhage.
The shock and horror was almost too much. Calling emergency services in vain, he was told she had been gone for at least two hours by the time he noticed. There was nothing they could do. Nothing he could have done. Her body was simply too fragile, too weakened.
And now, it was lifeless...the only proof of it left in two little girls.
Hinata, only five at the time, barely understood. The ambulance and EMTs had frightened her, retreating to her room as a heavy, blanket-like atmosphere settled over the house.
Her questions about where her mother was were answered with an outburst of emotion from her father: something she could never recall seeing before.
...it scared her even further.
Hiashi slept in the guest bedroom as arrangements were made for his wife’s funeral, all while juggling a newborn and a preschooler. His brother’s widow offered her help, coming to stay for a few weeks with her son, Neji.
Hinata still didn’t fully comprehend. Everyone kept telling her her mother was gone, but...gone where? When was she coming back? Why had she gone, with the new baby only just arrived?
Didn’t she want them?
“But...what does it mean, she w-won’t come back? Why not?”
“It means she’s dead,” Neji replied quietly. Not cruelly, but simply as a matter of facts. He, after all, had been forced to come to terms with the idea even younger than Hinata had when his father died. “She’s asleep forever, Hinata. You won’t see her or talk to her anymore.”
Dark brows wilted, tears burning in her eyes. “But...w-why?”
“I don’t know...but when they were taking out the bed from your parents’ room, I saw a lot of blood.”
“B...blood…?”
“They said it was from the baby. Babies make you bleed when they come out. Your mama just...didn’t stop bleeding.”
...it hadn’t made any sense. Her mother had been fine! She’d come back from the hospital, and there wasn’t any blood...three days had gone by, and nothing!
Then why…?
People kept coming by their house. All of them were sad, with those eyes that said more than words ever could. Hanako had been beloved in their community: an active member of the garden club, among the other parents of the preschoolers, and just being friendly and welcoming to everyone she met. A bright light had been lost, people kept saying. Now things would be darker without her there.
Almost a month passed...and then Hiashi made a decision. He just couldn’t stand it anymore. Being in that house, seeing those people...all they were were constant reminders of her, of his loss, his broken heart.
...so, he found a house in another city two hours away. Not too far as to be cut off from his sister-in-law should they need one another, but enough for a new start. A blank slate. Something to let him begin to recover from the loss of his beloved Hanako.
...but not everyone is so ready to leave.
“Hinata...I must speak with you.”
Looking up from her small gathering of toys on her bedroom floor, the girl meets her father’s eyes. They’ve been dark and sunken as of late, and today is no different. And yet...there’s something different about his gaze...she just can’t quite put her finger on it. “...y-yes?”
He sits on her bed, patting the mattress beside her. “...how are you feeling?”
“...sad…”
“You miss Mama, don’t you?”
A small, somber nod is all she can manage.
“...me too. Every moment of every day. Which is why...I think we need a change.”
“C...change?”
“Yes, Hinata. I want to move to a new house.”
“...huh…?”
“This house, it’s…” He pauses with a sigh. “...it’s full of memories of your mother. And those memories - as much as I love them - are making me sad. It’s hard to move forward when we’re stuck here, in a place that’s tied to the past. Does that make sense?”
“I...don’t know…”
“...I think it would be good for us. We can meet new people, make new friends...and have a new house to make new memories in.”
“You want to forget Mama…?”
“Hinata, no...that’s not what I -”
“I don’t w-wanna forget Mama! We can’t leave...this is our home! This is where she was, where she was alive!”
“Hinata, listen to me!” Carefully, he takes her shoulders, trying to stop her temperamental flailing. “We won’t forget Mama. We can never forget. But if we stay here...then we can never heal. Our hearts will always be sad. Sometimes...you need to take time away from what makes you sad. Mama will always be with us, no matter where we go. That I can promise you.”
Looking to him teary-eyed, Hinata isn’t convinced. “W...what about my friends…?”
“...we’ll have a day where they can all come over and say goodbye before we leave. And maybe if their parents say it’s okay, you can call them on the phone sometimes, and come visit. Or they can come visit us. Will that be all right?”
She can’t find an answer.
“...I’ll talk to all the parents. I think most of them knew this would happen. So they’ll be ready. That way you can say goodbye, okay?”
...no reply.
Sighing, Hiashi goes quiet for a time. Without a word, he gets up and takes his leave.
Hinata just...sits before rolling over and staring at the wall.
With the money to spare and not wanting to wait, Hiashi hires a moving team to pack up the house. Hinata watches sadly as so many pieces of their lives - most untouched since she can remember - are wrapped in paper and put into boxes. Hiashi tells her that much of it will be donated, or put into storage. Where they’re going, the house will be a little smaller, but in a better neighborhood with a big yard and a smaller school.
By now, she doesn’t have the words to argue.
Two days before the final push, Hiashi arranges for her class to meet in the park just down the road. It’s well into Spring now, and the grass is green, even if the days are still rather cool. The other children all gather around as Hiashi explains.
“Hinata, Hanabi, and I are going to be moving to a new city, soon. We wanted a chance to say goodbye to you all...and thank you for all of your help.” Even now, his tone is a bit stiff - Hinata knows that means he feels awkward...and is trying to remain professional, even as the subject grows heavy.
“...I know that many of you treasured Hanako as we did. Her absence is felt by many...but so too is her presence. It lingers, and seems to drain us. We hope that a new start will let us adjust to life without her, without her memory hanging so heavily over our shoulders. You are all, of course, welcome to stay in touch. Especially the children - I know Hinata will miss many of you, and I thank you for being such good friends to her. Take today to have fun, and tell each other what you mean to one another. We’ll take those tidings with us when we go.”
Given how young they are all, many of the children seem a bit unsure what all the fuss is really about - mortality isn’t yet a reality for some.
Were she a little older, Hinata might find herself a bit jealous of that.
“How come you gotta go away?” one boy, Kiba, asks in despair.
“Papa wants to go.”
“Can’t you stay?” Sakura asks, looking unsure.
“No...I w-wish I could. But Papa says we might come s-see you guys. But not for a while. I can call you on the p-phone.”
“I’ve never used the phone,” Chōji muses.
“M-me neither. But...m-maybe it will work.”
Everyone murmurs in discussion, but one boy seems to linger back from the group. Hinata knows him: Sasuke. He’s quite popular despite being so shy. They actually get along rather well, given their similarities.
“...I’ll miss you,” he offers quietly.
“Yeah…m-me too. I’ll call you on the phone, okay?”
“Okay...mister Roary will really miss Luna, too.”
Hinata jolts a bit at that. Luna is her little bunny plush, which she often brings to school with her. She’s good friends with Sasuke’s dinosaur plush, Roary. “M...maybe I’ll bring her to visit!”
“Yeah? Promise?”
“I promise.”
As the afternoon fades, Hiashi begins saying goodbyes to the adults, Hinata doing the same with her classmates. All of them give her hugs, wishing her well.
“Be careful, okay?”
Hinata nods as Sasuke takes his turn - the last of them - to embrace her. “I-I will…”
“I hope you like your new house, and your new school.”
“Yeah, me too. I’ll m-miss everyone.”
“We’ll miss you too. But we’ll see each other again! Okay?”
“...okay.”
                                                     .oOo.
     I am...VERY tired, so this probably isn't my best work - I feel like the end is rushed cuz I was running out of steam @~@ And it doesn't help that angst tends to be very...slow work for me, aha~      Idk this is just...what my brain gave me. I've never gone into too much detail about Hanako's (Hinata's mother) death. But this is what I HC to have happened in pretty much every verse: her body is just too fragile and worn out, and a while after Hanabi is born, she has internal bleeding that kills her.      I didn't mean for this to be TOO graphic, and I hope it's not horrible. I often have trouble writing gore, so...I tried to tread a little lightly but also still make it impactful. Idk if I succeeded.      But for now I REALLY need to sleep, so...that's all for now. Thanks for reading~
SasuSaku Month Day 20: Something New
Title: Employee Discount // Summary: Sasuke works at Hot Topic and wants to do something new with his look. Sakura from Claire’s knows just the solution: pierce his ears. She pierces his ears AND his heart in the process. // ao3 ffnet
A/N: has this been done before?? Mall au is so funny to me i don’t own anything at all
----
Sasuke rang up the last customer in line and handed them their bag full of merchandise. Working in retail was exhausting and he was more than grateful to be on his 30 minute break. He wasn’t even a good employee and he was so ready to go home.
Customers were really testing his patience that day, especially when Kiba and Naruto came in twice to buy glow in the dark condoms.
“If I tape these to my wall, will it be like those glow in the dark stars we had as kids?”
“Dude, imagine a glow in the dark condom constellation.” Kiba handed Naruto the smaller size, taking the larger one for himself, “haha Naruto, you have a Little Dipper.”
Even the pre-teens buying rubber bracelets and colorful skinny jeans were more tolerable than those two.
He called out to his co-worker Suigetsu, “I’m on my 30. Don’t bother me,” before leaving the store in search of a soft pretzel. He didn’t know what they put in those pizza pretzels that made them so good—well, he did know, they used cheese and tomato sauce and pepperonis and shit, but still. They were godly.
As usual, Rock Lee was enthusiastically handing out free samples while Neji made the pretzels and TenTen manned the register. Sasuke wrinkled his nose when he saw that the samples were the almond covered bites with caramel sauce. Gross.
He nodded to TenTen for his usual. After he paid and waited for Neji to take the pretzel out of the oven, he noticed the necklace resting on Neji’s chest. “Your necklace is sick, dude. Where’d you buy it?”
Neji handed him the pretzel in a bag and pointed behind Sasuke, “Claire’s. My cousin works there and they actually have cool stuff. You should check it out. Buy from Hinata, she makes commission.”
Sasuke chomped on his pretzel and nodded, not caring if he burned his mouth. They were best fresh. Maybe he needed some new jewelry, his usual look was getting a bit stale. He didn’t want to be like Lee: signature or not, that green jumpsuit was awful.
Still munching away, he wandered into Claire’s for the first time. He was going to really have to look to find something as cool as what Neji had on, it looked like a unicorn had vomited over half the store. He was sorting through some simple, silver jewelry when the sales associate asked him, “are you finding everything alright?”
He turned around, mouth full of pretzel, ready to answer that he was just looking, but holy shit. It was a super pretty sales associate. He finished chewing and swallowed before answering, “uhh I just wanna do something new. Got any ideas?” As a fellow retail sufferer, he knew it was annoying to actually help customers, but he decided to be a little selfish and bother her for a bit.
To his surprise, she perked up. Little did he know, Sakura actually loved talking to customers. How well did they pay at Claire’s? She gestured to the display he had been looking through, “these kinds of simple pieces are really popular with guys lately. But can I make a suggestion?”
He nodded as quickly as he could, eager to hear what she thought.
“You’d look super hot with your ears pierced.”
Did that mean he was already hot or the earrings would be a game changer? Either way, getting his ears pierced did sound pretty sick. He heard it didn’t even hurt that much. “I’m down. You can do it here, right?” Sakura pointed to a chair in the corner, “yup, just sit over there and I’ll be with you in a second! Choose your studs from the board.”
He had decided on a simple silver stud when Sakura came back with the needle gun. Didn’t they have one of those in the Hot Topic break room?
“Is your hair natural?” he couldn’t help but ask while she prepped.
Sakura paused while wiping his ears with disinfectant. She nodded towards him in all his bangs-plus-spiky-hair glory, “I could ask the same to you.”
Point taken. He let her continue doing her job. She was even prettier up close. Her name tag said Sakura. That was a nice name. She seemed nice.
He remembered he had more pretzel in the bag and took another bite. His chewing made his ears wiggle up and down, though, so Sakura placed a hand on the side of his face, “hold still. It’ll only be a quick pinch.” Her hand was warm and soft, Sasuke didn’t even notice that the nail gun had pierced his ear. His poor pizza pretzel was completely forgotten now.
Sakura stepped back to admire her handywork. All her soft colors stood out amongst the glaring lights and tacky decor. Sometimes angry moms with awful haircuts came into Hot Topic and accused him of being a devil. Next time he would tell them to go to Claire’s, an angel worked there.
He looked at himself in the mirror she handed him. He did look kinda cool. Sakura started telling him about how often he needed to clean his ears and how long until he could change to a different pair of earrings. “Can I get your number?” he blurted. When Sakura simply raised an eyebrow at him, he quickly clarified, “I’m not gonna remember all that. Could you text it to me?”
Sakura laughed and turned around to walk towards the register, “maybe next time. For today I’ll let you use my employee discount.”
----
Sasuke visited Sakura on his breaks from then on. She was way more entertaining than the Hot Topic break room or the mall food court. He usually brought her an almond covered pretzel with caramel sauce when he got his pizza one. Her manager, Tsunade, didn’t care as long as he brought a lemonade slushy for her too.
“Sakura, you never told me your new boyfriend is an e-boy?”
Sasuke didn’t know what an e-boy was, but if E stood for emo he was going to lose it.
----
A/N: as always i hope my dumb jokes land well or i’ll be embarrassed. Happy birthday emo king
NS fanfics
Listen. I just want a fanfic that ends the way it should be. Naruto ‘saved’ Sasuke at the valley of the end after the 4th war. Sasuke doesn’t remain this evil guy who seeks to separate or kill Naruto, Sakura and the village again (even though he had valid reasons for why he wanted to). Sasuke is not an obstacle between Naruto and Sakura because he was not interested in a first place. (I see a lot of SS/NH shippers say that NS seem like siblings, but that is just not the case.  When I think of SS and NH all the feelings are one sided on Sakura and Hinata’s side respectively. Even though Sakura is canonically older of the three, Sakura reminds me of a girl who has a crush on the handsome older neighbor guy who is friends with her friend, Naruto who has a crush on her, and Sasuke in the equation treats her like a little sister. Absolutely NO INTEREST. Let me get back, I want Sasuke to have not gotten off lightly, but I also do not forsee him wanting to stay in Konoha. I want the truth about the UCHIHA MASSACRE to be revealed. Itachi is dead and gone, it is time for Sasuke to have justice and not people looking at him like he had no reason for doing what he did to Danzo. Plus it would be nice if people recognized just how much Itachi sufferred to protect the village (JUSTICE!!)
I want Naruto and Sakura and whomever else to be complacent in the fact that Sasuke isn’t going to go around doing evil things and let Sasuke travel around with Team Taka until he feels ready to come back to Konoha, and when he does feel ready he adopts Juugo and Suigetsu as Uchihas and they move into a compound in or just outside the village (I do not think Sasuke would be fine mentally to go back to the Uchiha compound so maybe he gives that as an orphanage space for kids who lost their parents, ect,), but Karin doesn’t want to be adopted because she loves him and they explore their relationship and talk out their issues/feelings. (SASUKARIN)
Also Orochimaru is NOT given a pass to roam around Konoha freely and he is not given a pass to EXPERIMENT ON HUMANS which is what he was exiled for IN THE FIRST PLACE. NARUTO and the village as a whole are NOT OKAY WITH THAT. Orochimaru is under heavy surveillance, not doubting Yamato’s prowess but maybe chakra restraints on Orochimaru, idk the dude (?) is weird.
MEANWHILE
Naruto and Sakura just as what was shown canonically hang out in Sasuke’s absence, occasionally meeting up with the other teams, squad leaders (funny Gai and Kakashi Inserts, Iruka (Iruka does not look 70, he looks as he should- younger than Kakashi). When they meet up with other teams, Naruto remembers Hinata’s confession, and feels that before he can confess to Sakura he goes to HInata to show her gratitude for putting her life on the line for him twice but tells her he cant return her feelings as his heart already belongs to one woman (just as Jiraiya did). (Also since NH like to try to spout BS about Hinata being a healer, maybe she actually healed Neji until more professional help came instead of just watching him bleed out right in front of her-a medic no matter where is supposed to heal, periodt!),  Neji is ALLLIVEEE.
After one particular outing, Naruto walks her home (not being forced but because he wants to) everything is calm and Naruto finallly confesses her feelings, he even tells her EVERYTHING, about disguising as Sasuke to kiss her. He either leaves to let her collect her thoughts but tells her he wont stop wooing her. Sakura does not need to react then and there. She starts to think of everything he has ever done for her, him encouraging her and protecting her and more, remembers the times Sasuke even told her how much Naruto cared like the gaara fight. How he is her motivation to become stronger. She thinks about how she had to revive him TWICE, how his heart was and is in HER hands and knows that they complete each other. Heaven and Earth symbols galore.
She finds him the next day (training with Kakashi/Tsunade or whomever as works on studying to become hokage (he is a good fighter, but needs to learn more leadership and hardships of a leader.-> I actually didn’t mind Kakashi as Hokage I do wish he did cooler things or was more badass as Hokage but I like the Idea of Tsunade passing down the mantle to Naruto.) SHE asks him on a date.(Now you know how symbolic this is). They walk together, Naruto fumbles/doesn’t know where to put his hands in nervousness until she uncrosses her arms from behind her back and takes hold of his hand with a blush on her face. Maybe a little clip/ image of their younger selves holding hands/walking together as they did. (I love younger Sakura’s cute little green dress).
Further down the line, Naruto reminsces about meeting Sakura’s parents for the first time and how accepting they were and no cliches about Mebuki knowing or being friends with Kushina. (Becasue i’m like why weren’t they more around Naruto even though his parentage was a secret anyone could look at his face and know that he is Minato’s child and thus Kushina’s, especially if they were close friends). OR maybe Mebuki remembers when she had invited Naruto over for dinner once or twice way when they were genin and she noticed how their personalities complimented then but said nothing because she knew Sakura was so Sasuke- focused then (I don’t like adding to much noncanon things but this is not bad). --MAYBE RTN COULD BE INPUT HERE INSTEAD to satisfy the whole meeting the parents concept.
On a Hinata note,  watanukisakuya has a good idea for rewriting the Last movie. This would show Hinata’s growth and ability to do something without thinking about n-n-naruto kun. I rather a badass mother and clan leader Hinata than a housewife (no offense to housewives but this is the ninja world hunny). I do not know who she would end up with but I admit to being biased to KibaHina ShinHina or maybe someone from within a clan. It would be cool if it was a lower branch member (not Neji they are cousins), and work to end the slavery (She sves her own family, especially out of gratitude for Neji, no help needed from Naruto).
The wedding
The night before I do want Naruto’s swing in frame (XD) think about his lonliness and the waterfall training with Bee when he thought about his anti self, to how much love he is receiving now and how happy he is. This would essentially be in Naruto and Sakura POV. This doesn’t need to take 40 minutes of characters finding gifts, but be focused on NARUSAKU’s journey together. Naruto thinks of all the people who have helped/supported him. I did like Iruka standing in as his father. I want Naruto to think about his parents and their sacrifice so that he could be here. Sakura remember’s Minato request of her to take care of his son and promises to do just that. Tsunade and Naruto thinks of Jiraiya.
Beocming Hokage
They do have their son Shinachiku, Hanami and Hanako, and Lastly Arashi. (Shinachiku is already born and twins are on the way, Arashi has not been concieved yet).
We finally get to see Naruto become Hokage.  Yes, Shikamaru is his advisor. (Even though I hate the Boruto series, I love the idea of a bond between their children).
 Naruto has to deal with the after affects of the war. Addressing smaller villages concerns about 5 nations having all of the power and wars that essentially hurt small villages the most. War relief fund set up between all the big villages to help smaller villages. (I do not know how to manage the ideas of the Daimyo’s v. leaders of villages yet.) Though Hinata would have dealt with Slavery in her clan, I would like their to be some failsafe that Narutoo put in place to make completely sure. I want Naruto to make sure that there is never another Danzo.
Sakura deals with the strains of motherhood, being a wife, and the head of the hospital, helping run the orphanage w/ Team Taka and Ino in the old Uchiha compound.
Naruto the Next GEN
It would not be titled after new character. Everyone did not pair up and have babies at the SAME TIME. Sasuke would probably have had a baby first out of everyone with Karin. I think NaruSaku would follow. Maybe Ino has a baby by the time NS are on the twins. SOME Pairings babies would be the same age, give or take a few months, but split up ages amongst the rest.
Pairings:
Naruto and Sakura
Sasuke and Karin
Shikamaru and Temari
Chouji and Ino
Kiba and Amaru (met on a mission)
Tenten and Rock Lee (I’ll admit I like RockTen or NejiTen, idc)
Neji and whomever, i’m still thinking
Hinata and ex-lower branch member (or Shino or Kiba, I like Amaru with Kiba too though)
Hanabi and Konohamaru
(Though there is peace times, I will think that there would be a few strangler bad guys, but nothing that they can not handle, and there is still the matter of the rest of the otosuki. NO NO ASTRONOMY. I hate it. No trains. No futurama look to the village, Leave it as the same aesthetically pleasing rustic village look)
(Ninjas will be ninjas so people will still train, if not only to just defend themselves and keep the tradition alive (like dojos) but yes some people do fall off on being ninjas. Not as many people want it.) There are more jobs though.)
For some reason, I have the impression that the world of Naruto as we know it is not the entirety of the globe, so there are still other villages (Yes, they might have been caught up in the infinite tsukuyomi as well without knowing whats going on)..I don’t know if the other villages are evil or not etc)
More to be added later...
[ Part 1 ] [ Part 2 ] [ Part 3 ]
-
The next day, Sakura started her shift with a smile on her face and a song in her heart. Well, not really, but she definitely began the shift in a good mood. It was hard not to feel positive: she’d totally aced her make-up test with her professor and she was about to have two days off that she could spend catching up on schoolwork and sleep. Most importantly, however, was the company she was expecting during her shift that day.
Maybe it was stupid to feel so excited, but she was excited.
Four days ago, Kakashi had been a strange man with a pug who’d flirted with her before not paying for his drink. Now… well, she was starting to hope that he’d be more. Maybe a lot more. When Sakura had made the dubious decision to call Ino and ask her for advice, Ino had squealed “ASK HIM OUT” loud enough that Sakura had had to pull the phone away from her ear.
Sakura wasn’t sure she had the courage to do that. But maybe she could handle reminding him that she had the next two days off, in the hopes that he would ask her out himself. Sure, it was pretty cowardly, and that didn’t exactly sit well with Sakura, but neither did asking out a customer while she was at work. Somehow, she thought her boss would frown on that.
Sakura didn’t want to piss off Hana. Hana was the older sister of Sakura’s friend Kiba, and the last thing Sakura wanted to do was upset her boss, especially since it would also reflect badly on Kiba’s recommendation that she work there. And after the conversation she’d had to have with Hana earlier that week about a certain unpaid-for drink, Sakura was probably on thin ice already.
As if her very thoughts had summoned her, Sakura felt her stomach drop as she heard the sound of the back door opening and her boss’s voice ringing through the air.
“Hey Sakura,” Hana said easily as she locked the back door behind her. “I’ve had to rearrange my schedule this week, so I thought I’d come in and do inventory tonight,” she said, smiling brightly.
Sakura forced what she hoped was a believable smile in return. It was a few hours before the time when Kakashi came in, but who knew how long inventory would last? If Hana was still here when Kakashi arrived with four dogs, Sakura wasn’t sure how she would react.
And it had to be four dogs. He had to have run out by now, right?
“Is there anything I can do to help?” Sakura asked hopefully. Maybe she could hurry this along.
“No, I just need you to run the shop. I’ll try not to get in your way too much.” As Hana set down her bag and plucked her inventory clipboard from the wall, Sakura held back a sigh. All she could do now was hope that inventory was finished before Kakashi made his grand appearance.
For the next two hours, Sakura handled customers while Hana puttered around the shop counting things. She counted milk jugs, syrup bottles, and boxes of napkins and stir sticks. Sakura mostly tried to ignore her steadily growing anxiety and failed miserably every time she checked the time. However, a certain fatalistic mood began to settle over her as the clock hands crept closer to what she thought of as “Kakashi Time”. After all, he was just a customer who had some dogs, and they were a coffee shop that was dog-friendly. So, it wasn’t like either of them were doing anything wrong.
…Right?
“Sakura.” Hana’s voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts, and Sakura turned to take in the sight of Hana counting the various sizes of cups. “Do you know why we’re missing shot cups?”
Without thinking, Sakura answered, “No, I don’t know why we would be—” and then stopped, trailing off. Puppuccinos. Goddamn puppuccinos.
Hana’s eyes narrowed. “Sakura?”
Sakura gave a wincing smile. “Well, you see, we’ve had a customer lately who likes to bring in his dogs, and Starbucks does this thing where they give out little cups of whipped cream and call them puppuccinos…”
Hana folded her arms, looking unimpressed. “And you thought we needed to keep up with Starbucks, apparently. Did you not realize that would throw off inventory? It looks like theft, Sakura.”
Sakura swallowed. Why did she have to have so many conversations with her boss regarding Kakashi and thievery? “Well, I figured that we don’t charge for extra whipped cream, so it would be okay.” When Hana’s expression didn’t change, Sakura sighed. “I didn’t think about the cups. I’m sorry.”
Hana watched her narrow-eyed for a moment longer, and then a curious little smirk crept over her face. “So… who’s this new customer?”
Fuck. Sakura felt her face start to get hot, and her voice was a trifle squeaky when she answered, “What? Which customer?” Smooth, real smooth.
Hana casually inspected the nails of her right hand, although she was obviously still watching Sakura from the corner of her eye. “You never break the rules, and now you’ve broken them twice in one week.”
“I— Well, I mean, I just made a few mistakes. It’s a coincidence.”
“So, you’re telling me puppuccino customer isn’t also didn’t-pay-for-a-drink customer?” Hana’s smile had begun to take on a positively wolfish quality. “He must be cute.”
Sakura opened her mouth to make some sort of excuse—just what kind of excuse, she wasn’t sure—when she was saved by the tinkle of the bell over the door. At least, she thought she was saved, until she looked over and saw a certain lanky figure in the doorway.
Kakashi leaned casually in the door, holding it open, smiling lazily. Lifting one silver brow, he whistled—and then the dogs started walking in.
"Oh, no," Sakura whispered to herself in mounting horror. But there was no stopping it.
First was Pakkun. Out of the backpack for once, he was wearing the same blue halter that all of Kakashi's other dogs had worn, but it was so small and cute that Sakura had to repress the urge to make a very awkward high-pitched noise. Next came Shiba, and the Bisuke. All of them were holding their own leashes in their mouths. When Uhei came in the door, he paused briefly and wagged his tail before continuing forward.
That wasn't the end of Kakashi's dog parade, though.
Another smaller brown floppy-eared dog stepped through the door, followed by two other dogs of lanky, medium build. All three looked like mutts of indistinguishable breeds. But the last dog that came in caused both of Sakura's hands to fly up over her mouth. He was a dark dog whose breed wasn't immediately obvious—definitely some bulldog, maybe some bull mastiff—but he was easily the largest dog that Sakura had ever seen, the top of his head reaching higher than Kakashi's waist.
All eight dogs filed into a line before the counter, and each of them sat politely, still holding their leashes in their mouths. Completely ignoring her shocked expression, Kakashi let the door swing shut and approached the counter himself.
"Medium flat white and eight puppuccinos, please," he said pleasantly, like he hadn’t just released a canine horde upon her workplace.
“Kaka—” Sakura began, trying not to cringe, but she was cut off.
“Kakashi Hatake, why the hell are you standing in my coffee shop with every dog you have?” Hana’s voice boomed from behind her. Sakura turned to blink at her. “Let me guess… you’re the new customer I keep hearing about?”
“Oh, hi Hana. I didn’t know you worked here,” Kakashi replied in that same pleasant, unflappable voice. “It’s nice to see you outside the shelter.”
Confused, Sakura asked, “You know each other?”
Hana snorted, smirking at Kakashi. “You know I volunteer at the animal shelter. This guy,” she said, pointing at Kakashi, who looked admirably unphased by her ire, “is the guy they call when there’s a dog no one else will adopt.”
Sakura turned to look at him, briefly distracted from the tense situation. "Really? You take all the dogs that no one else wants?"
"No," Kakashi answered, looking offended, as if there was no way he would be that much of a sucker. After a long, pregnant pause, he added, "I only take the ones that Pakkun likes." Another pause. "Mostly. Pakkun didn't really like Shiba at first. I had to talk him into it." From the front of the line of dogs came a small, disgruntled 'boof'.
Sakura really wanted to ask how one went about talking a pug into something, but she decided it wasn’t the time. Especially when Hana glared from her to Kakashi and then said, “Neither of you have answered my question. Why are you here with all of your dogs?”
There was a moment when Sakura and Kakashi both looked at each other and then back at Hana, and then they both started speaking at the same time.
“Well, he saw the ‘Dogs Welcome’ sign in the window—"
“Oh, it’s really a simple explanation. I really like Sakura—”
“And when he asked what the limit was I didn’t know what to tell him because no one’s ever asked that—”
“And I thought I’d bring in a whole bunch of dogs to try and impress her.”
Sakura had trailed off, belatedly registering what he’d said about liking her, and was now struggling not to turn red again. Hana had her arms folded and was staring at him.
“It seemed like a good idea at the time,” Kakashi finished blithely, though the smile he gave was a little sheepish.
Hana was now pinching the bridge of her nose, her eyes squeezed shut. “Sakura,” she said slowly. “Make the man his drink.” Opening her eyes, she pointed at Kakashi again. “You. Take your dogs outside. There’s not enough room for them in here. And pay for your drink first!” she added as Kakashi started to move toward the door.
Kakashi chuckled awkwardly as he moved back toward the counter. “Right. Of course.”
In the awkward silence that followed, Sakura rang up Kakashi and made his change, both of them endeavoring to ignore the indistinct muttering coming from Hana, who had returned to her clipboard. Sakura quickly moved to make his flat white, very carefully not looking in Hana’s direction as she did so, and also avoiding looking at Kakashi.
“Medium flat white,” she said in a meek voice devoid of her usual cheer as she approached the counter and held out the drink.
Kakashi gave her an apologetic smile as he took it. “I’ll, uh, just take this to one of the tables outside,” he said, and within a few moments he’d herded his dogs back through the door, and Sakura was once more left alone with her boss.
Quickly busying herself by wiping down the hot bar, Sakura was startled when the silence was broken by Hana slamming down a whipped cream canister and a stack of shot cups beside her.
“When you give out whipped cream for dogs, you need to adjust the cup tally on the inventory sheet,” Hana scolded. “Don’t call them ‘puppuccinos’ again until I can verify that Starbucks doesn’t have that copyrighted.”
“Yes ma’am,” Sakura said, hope rising in her chest.
“Go take a break,” Hana finished gruffly.
Sakura blinked. She was always by herself in the shop on Wednesdays, so she never took a break. “But I don’t take breaks on—”
“Fuck’s sake, Haruno, know a good thing when you hear it!” Hana said in exasperation. “Take. A. Break.” And she shoved the whipped cream and cups toward her.
A silly grin threatened to break across Sakura’s features, and she quickly repressed it. “Of course, Hana. Thank you!” she said sincerely, albeit quickly, as she slid out from behind the register and beelined toward the door.
“Fifteen minutes!” Hana called after her, and she might have muttered something else, but Sakura was already out the door.
Letting the door shut behind her, still holding the cups and whipped cream canister in her hand, Sakura looked toward the table that Kakashi stood beside. And maybe it was the charmingly shamefaced grin he had, or all of the built-up tension of the last ten minutes—or maybe it was the pile of dogs who were crammed around his feet. But Sakura couldn’t hold it in anymore, and she burst into slightly hysterical laughter.
“I can’t—believe—you brought—eight dogs in here,” she gasped between giggles, and Kakashi’s grin grew as he watched her, his eyes warm. “I thought Hana was going to kill me. Or you.”
“Are you impressed yet? Because I’ve kind of run out of dogs and I promised Pakkun I wouldn’t adopt another one for at least a year.” Kakashi carefully stepped out of the pile of dogs and toward her, plucking the stack of cups and whipped cream from her hands and placing them on the table behind him. “Hey, do you think Hana can see us from inside the shop right now?”
Perplexed by the apparent change in topic, Sakura answered, “Well… no? She’s probably too far back to be able to see this table from—”
Sakura cut herself off as Kakashi dipped his head down close to hers, her breath catching in her throat. “Good,” he murmured, and with one hand raising to cup her face, he pressed his lips to hers.
She didn’t react at first, completely stunned by this turn of events. But when he went to pull away, her courage finally decided to show up, and she leaned toward him, throwing her arms around his neck and kissing him back with an enthusiasm that Ino would’ve been proud of.
Kakashi hummed low in his throat in response, his free hand finding the small of her back. When she pulled back slightly to take a breath, he smiled at her, and she smiled back.
“You know, I probably shouldn’t show up here again… at least not for a while,” he said as she slowly moved back a little, her face warming as her actions caught up to her.
“At least not with so many dogs,” she quipped, biting her lip.
“You’re off tomorrow, right?” he asked, and when she nodded, he continued, “Let me take you to dinner. No dogs.”
“I don’t know…” Sakura hedged, trying not to grin. “I’m kind of only in it for the dogs.” The fact that Uhei chose that moment to come and sit on her foot made the grin break through.
Kakashi laughed, somewhat ruefully. “How about dinner and a dog park afterward?”
“Yeah… that sounds fun,” Sakura said, beaming.
Sakura didn’t miss Kakashi’s quiet, relieved sigh as she bent slightly to stroke Uhei’s head, much to the dog’s obvious tail-wagging pleasure.
“Now then,” she continued, reaching past Kakashi for the cups and whipped cream, directing her attention toward the dogs. “Who wants a generic equivalent, definitely-not-copyright-infringement cup of whipped cream?”
Chapter 3
“I am here, dattebayo” Naruto kneeled down and his blue eyes widened the moment they met the familiar onyx ones; those beautiful doll-like eyes. The porcelain skin that was now covered in soot and the night sky dark hair. That could be no one else but Uchiha Sasuke. His old lab partner back in high school.
“Are you alright?” Naruto shook his head to wake himself up. There was no time to get all nostalgic.
He approached the raven. Sasuke seemed to have gotten smaller and thinner, or maybe it was just Naruto who had gotten taller and well..More muscular.
“My leg”  Sasuke said, Naruto looked at the wood stuck in the thigh. It looked painful it probably was. Naruto crawled under the metal table. The raven coughed loudly, covering his mouth and nose with his arm. Naruto looked at the lab coat. He grabbed the white sleeve of the right arm and ripped it out,wrapping it around the leg to stop it from bleeding out.
“Hold on to me, can you do that?”  Naruto put an arm under Sasuke’s knees and another one on his back.  Sasuke nodded weakly.
“Let’s get you out of here, dattebayo” Naruto pulled Sasuke towards him and titled him up.The grip of the raven was weak and his head was buried in the blond’s neck.
“Kiba,  I got him!” He could see his team clear the way.
“Good job, Naruto!” Kiba said as they cleared the way. They walked out of the building and jogged towards the grassfield, away from the dangers of the fire.
“Sempai!!” The red haired woman looked relieved, tears were appearing in his eyes. “Thanks goodness!”
“Uhm thank Uzumaki over here” Kiba joked.
“Stop playing the hero and get your asses here to help control the fire!”
Naruto chuckled hearing Tenten scolding them. “Owh owh Sasuke, what kind of a mess did you make” Naruto looked down at the man in his arms. It had been eight years. Eight years since they had seen one another, talked even. The raven hair had gotten longer, he had small eye bags now, maybe he didn’t get enough sleep or he had gotten older. It didn’t matter, he was as beautiful as ever.  He coughed when Naruto set him down by the medics.  The raven looked at the grass,he was probably still in shock.
“Hey” Naruto cupped Sasuke’s chin and forced the raven to look at him, “Shit happens. It is alright..I will fix it” he said taking his helmet off.  “I became a firefighter after all” he put the helmet on top of Sasuke and couldn’t believe his eyes seeing the familiar arrogant eye roll. “You haven’t changed a bit” Naruto smiled and jogged to aid the others.
It took several hours for the firefighters to get control over the fire, but they managed it.  Once the fire was gone it was clear that  everything on the second floor, and that entire side of the university for that matter was burned. But the good thing was that nobody died and only one got injured.
“Hey” Naruto walked towards Sasuke. They had cut off his pants to get to the wound. Bandage was wrapped around it.  “New fashion sense?” He scratched the back of his head. He felt nervous around the raven and yet ..Sort of happy.
“Seems yours haven’t changed. Hideous orange jacket. Isn’t it supposed to be yellow like the others?” Sasuke looked at the other firefighters.
“It is a...It is a inside joke” Naruto stated.
“The inside joke being you?” Sasuke raised an arrogant eyebrow.
“Yeah, you are right I should probably take it off”
Naruto  took the top off and also his shirt
“Yup totally an inside joke, dattebayo” Naruto grinned, seeing the raven turn his head away from his abbs was worth every minute he spent working out.
“So, I heard there was an explosion” Naruto squatted in front of Sasuke, putting one hand on Sasuke’s exposed knee.  The Uchiha chuckled.
“Fire or an explosion. Well, it was an explosion and then a fire” He scoffed.
“You seem pale. When was the last time you ate something?” Naruto asked, looking worried.
“I listened. I lost weight, remember” Sasuke joked
“Seriously” Naruto’s narrowed his eyes when it locked with Sasuke’s.
“I had crackers around..Noon. I don’t feel hungry”
“That is because your mind is too occupied with what happened. You have to eat something before you faint” Naruto stood up and stretched himself.“ Is there anyone you can call to pick you up? Your parents? Uhm..Your brother? ...A spouse?”
“No” Sasuke shook his head slightly.
“Wait, is that a no to the call or to you being in a relationship”
Sasuke frowned slightly by Naruto’s words and looked up.
“Are you asking me if I am single?” It seemed he caught on to the firefighters smooth attempt of asking.
‘No” Naruto immediately said, but the Uchiha didn’t seem convinced at all,”maybe...Yes…”  The blond scratched his scarred cheek.
“Naruto” Sasuke said his name seriously, “It is not usual of me to ask..So..” he looked up and swallowed loudly, “can you stay with me...For a few hours?”
The blue eyes widened. It was indeed unusual, the Uchiha was always too proud to ask for anything from anyone. He could only imagine how much the raven needed this. He leaned in and cupped Sasuke’s cheek in his hand, stroking his cheek bone with his thumb.
“Of course”  he said, nodding slightly. He suddenly felt a forehead bump into his, forcing him to back off and rub his head, “what the fuck, bastard!”
“Stop pretending I am a kitten you saved from a tree! Shorty-” Sasuke stopped talking seeing an immediate smug smile on Naruto’s face.
“What? What? I can’t hear you over my glorious height” He put his hand behind his ear.
“Dumbass!”  Sasuke pointed an accusing finger towards Naruto, his eyes suddenly sparkled like he had an epiphany, “Dummy”
“You didn’t change one bit, dattebayo” Naruto said those words in a negative tone. “Where do you live?”  He said rubbing the back of his neck.
“Not far from here” Sasuke got up.
“Can you walk with that leg?” Naruto seemed concerned.
“It is not that deep, the medic said as long as I don’t overdo it. It should heal fast”
“I can carry you-”
“You have made that clear already, but I don’t need to be carried around”  Sasuke interrupted him.
“Always playing tough” Naruto smiled, “typical bastard”
“Oi Uzumaki! Ready for pasta!” Kiba put his arm on Naruto’s shoulder before looking at Sasuke. “Oh, how are you doing?”
“I am fine” Sasuke immediately said.
“You know each other?” Kiba looked from Naruto to Sasuke and then back at Naruto. “Yes, he was my high school lab partner” Naruto smiled slightly.
“Oh the one with-”  the firefighter immediately wrapped his hand around Kiba’s mouth, preventing him from saying another word.
“No pasta night for me! I am going to take him home! Tell everyone I said bye!” Naruto pushed Kiba towards the fire truck.
“Oi, Naruto ain’t coming he is getting laid tonight!” Kiba shouted before turning his head to his friend and giving him the middle finger. The blond turned his head to Sasuke, running his hand through his hair.
“Uhm..He is always like that….Trying to badmouth me” Naruto said.
“Hmm..Sounds to me you do have a thing for ‘god thanks I am alive sex’. You fuck the people you save?”  Naruto was confused, it almost seemed Sasuke was serious not sarcastic.
“No..No, I don’t do that!” he put his hands up like he was showing his innocence.
“I can’t believe you were that same short, skinny dummy from high school”
“Hey, I didn’t cause a lab to explode” Naruto regretted his words immediately, seeing Sasuke’s expression darkened. “I am sorry, dattebayo”
“It wasn’t my fault. Try and error, bitch!”
“I recall you said the exact same thing in high school” Naruto laughed and wrapped his arm around Sasuke’s waist, “let me help you get home, dattebayo”
“Can you wear a shirt? I get cold just by looking at you” Sasuke looked away once again. Naruto sniggered.
“I thought you were getting hot-”
“Don’t even!” Sasuke warned immediately, though the red shade on his cheeks were undeniable.
Oxoxoxoxox
Sasuke grabbed the keys to his apartment from his lab coat, opening the door.
“Welcome to my tiny apartment, it is a bit messy” Sasuke warned ahead. Naruto supported Sasuke all the way to the couch. Once the raven was seated the blond looked around him and only saw a bunch of books on the counter...Where was this mess Sasuke was talking about?
“Bit messy? What do you call clean?” Naruto asked, sitting down next to Sasuke. “You want something to drink..Or eat?” Sasuke asked.
“Speaking of food, you should eat” Naruto got up, “It is alright if I look around?” he was already on it without waiting for an answer.
“Go ahead,I guess” Sasuke shook his head thanks to the idiot.
“Eeey~ bastard, I thought you hated beer!” Naruto said, seeing a six pack in the fridge. That was all together with a bowl of salad.
“No wonder you got so skinny, if this is how you live”  Naruto grabbed a beer before closing the fridge.
“I am average in weight, Dummy”  Sasuke hissed.
“I can order a pizza. I have remembered Domino’s telephone number, dattebayo”
“Not something to be proud of” Sasuke said.  Naruto rolled his eyes grabbing his phone and ordering the pizza.
“Can I get you something to drink from your own empty kitchen”
“Listen,I wanted to go grocery shopping today, but...Things got heated” Sasuke had a small smile on his face, “let that sink in, you will get it”
“It took me 8 years to get the ‘fired’ pun” the blond grabbed another bottle of beer from the fridge before sitting next to Sasuke and handing him to bottle.
“Eight years...It felt like yesterday when we graduated” Sasuke sighed, opening the bottle, using the corner of the coffee table.
“Time flies...Or maybe we get better at remembering” Naruto put his arm over the couch.
“It is funny...You have changed so much...And yet when I looked at you. I recognised you right away” Sasuke said.
“And you thought, who brought his fucker here?”Naruto chuckled.
“It is weird...I felt immediately saved”
Naruto felt his heart skip a beat. Did Sasuke just acknowledged him.
“I am actually very proud of you. You became what you wanted to be” Sasuke raised his bottle, “cheers on that”.
“Cheers…” Naruto said.
“And if you ever tell anyone I said that. Nobody is ever going to believe you, Dummy”
“Hey, Sasuke...Speaking of graduation...Do you remember uhm...The last time we talked. After the ceremony”
The raven conformingly nodded.
“I remember you looked beautiful and you told me you never thought I would get this far. You said mockingly before you just...You just shut up and looked at me...And I always thought, I should have kissed you...But I was afraid-”
“Your point being?” Sasuke asked directly.
“Did you...Or didn’t you...Wanted me to kiss you back then?”  Naruto couldn’t believe he felt actually nervous. The raven had this grin  on his face before taking a sip of his drink.
“I…” He was obviously teasing, answering this slow, “I wanted you to kiss me, but you didn’t”
“Damn it! I knew it” Naruto cursed slightly.
“I was really hinting all throughout senior year that I liked you” Sasuke couldn’t help but to chuckle slightly, “I went as far as to draw little heart in your notebook so you knew”
“I thought you were doodling to annoy me, dattebayo!” Naruto shook his head.
“I just figured you weren’t into guys after you were so oblivious” Sasuke shook his head, “I am getting nostalgic”
“Me too...I wonder how things would have been if I had kissed you that day”
“I can’t travel back in time or jump in an alternative universe” Sasuke slightly leaned in,”However, I can show you what you missed out on because...I am not in a relationship”
Naruto scoffed, the Uchiha always managed to make him feel or get reminded of how stupid his can be.
“I can live with that” Naruto whispered feeling Sasuke’s lips on his. The blond closed in, wrapping one arm around the Uchiha’s waist, pulling him closer. His hand was on the other man’s cheek. He deepened the kiss, feeling Sasuke’s hand moving from the blond’s chest to his shoulder.
The doorbell rung and the blond broke the kiss, smiling like the idiot he was.
“I can’t believe it, so you are bad at something, dattebayo”  he got up to open the door, leaving Sasuke on the couch who glared at Naruto.
“Pizza is here”
“What do you mean I am bad at kissing?” Sasuke asked it seriously and yet….Competitively.
“I guess I just became a better kisser than you, dattebayo” Naruto sat down.
“No, no..I am not a bad kisser, I am going to proof that to you”
The blond laughed when his back was pressed against the couch while the raven was sitting on top of him.
“Ha, you can be so predictable, dattebayo!” Naruto looked at the the dark eyes.
“....I feel doubly betrayed now” Sasuke frowned, he seemed confused.
“Don’t...I think it is kinda cute” Naruto moved his torso up.
“I don’t mean to be cute, I am trying to be fucking sexy here” The current expression on Sasuke’s face was the closest Naruto would ever see him get to a pouting face.
“You are fucking sexy too”  Naruto wrapped his arms around Sasuke’s middle,“Hey, do you remember our deal?”
“What deal?” Sasuke asked.
“The one we made back in highschool”  Naruto reminded the raven.  Sasuke seemed to be thinking deeply, but the moment his eyes widened Naruto knew he had remembered.
“You know I wasn’t serious. We were honry teenagers...Aren’t things different now?”
“..Well...I am also a honry adult” Naruto admitted,”Nah, I was just joking. Forget that deal, it is expired”
“Such a pity”  Sasuke had smirk on his face,” because I was really in a thank-god-I-am-Alive-Sex mood”
“Well, in that case” Naruto tried to kiss Sasuke, but the Uchiha blocked him with his hand.
“The Pizza’s getting cold”
“I know something else that is getting blue...Dattebayo” Naruto muttered.
“I heard that” Sasuke said.
Matchmaking
Sakura Haruno was not to be trifled with. Sakura Haruno knew how to get into a person's head and pull out their spleen through their eyeballs. Don't ask how. Just accept it. Sakura Haruno was just that good. Naruto didn't make up the rules. He just accepted them for what they were. The truth. So one early spring morning when he went to meet up with Team 7, he was unsurprised to see that usual plotting look on her face and when she turned to look at him, he knew he had just been dragged into this without any say.
The things he did for friendship.
Sakura herself was unsure how exactly she came up with the plot. She had awoken early and gone out to enjoy the sunrise over the treetops when she had spotted them. First she recognized her sensei. Kakashi was not an easy man to miss. His ridiculous hair and mask and that lazy body language was recognizable anywhere. He was standing at the ledge of the cliff, hands in pockets, watching the sunrise. It was such a Kakashi thing to do and Sakura should have figured that he enjoyed watching sunrises. However the person he was standing with stumped Sakura for a moment. Then she realized that the other person was Itachi. His hair was in the normal ponytail, but there was something softer about him in this moment. He was relaxed.
It still surprised Sakura how Sasuke-kun and Itachi could look so similar yet so different. She had watched the pair with keen eyes. Kakashi had said something to Itachi who smiled lightly at him and just like that, it was clear in Sakura's mind. The sun came up and all she could see was hearts and sunshine and romance. They would be prefect together. Sakura could see it already. Kakashi flirting and being his usual lazy self, but with a new spring in his step and Itachi smiling more and not so busy with missions and family. They needed each other and Sakura would help them see it.
"Naruto," Sakura began with a sweet tone once Naruto finally arrived at their meeting place. "We're going to be matchmakers."
"For who?" Naruto asked with squinting eyes. He slouched against the side of the bridge while Sakura bemoaned the lack of romance.
"Sensei and Itachi-san! Don't you see how they look at each other?" She asked and Naruto made a face.
"They don't really talk at all. I don't think I've ever seen 'em talk."
"That's because you haven't been paying attention." Sakura calmly informed her less than genius teammate. She was so distracted with setting up this romance that she did not even notice when Sasuke angsted onto the bridge. "Mark my words, Naruto. Kakashi-sensei and Itachi-san will see the light and fall in love. We just have to help them realize their feelings. Those two aren't big on that sort of thing. So we need to help them." Sakura hummed and Sasuke stopped mid-brood to stare at the female.
"What are you going on about?" He asked and Sakura started, finally realizing he was there.
"Oh, Sasuke-kun! I was just...uhhh." Sakura began awkwardly.
"She's trying to set sensei and 'Tachi-nii up." Naruto helpfully inserted himself into the conversation. Sakura scowled, eyebrows narrowing as she turned on Naruto. Sasuke however caught her attention with his own displeased glare. That perverted sensei would be getting nowhere near his beloved Aniki. This woman had to be stopped.
"Haruno. I swear if you try to set that pervert up with my brother, I'll-"
"You'll what?" Sakura barked back, arms crossed over her chest. "Glare at me and angst?"
"Oooooooo." Naruto breathed.
"Dammit." Sasuke turned away. She knew too much...pink she devil. Sakura smirked, knowing she had him beat. She held her hands firmly on her hips and regarded the two boys on her team.
"Love will prevail! Either get on my level or get out of my way." She boasted. Naruto and Sasuke shared uneasy glances.
If there was anyone Sakura could trust for romance it would be her one true rival. Ino was many things, and wise in the way of love was one of them...or at least she was better than Sakura. After training that morning, Sakura made a beeline for the flower shop where she knew Ino would be working. She opened the door, hearing the bell jingle overhead and Ino peered from around the counter, lips pulling into a smile as she spotted the other girl.
"Well well, what are you up to Sakura?" Ino asked, slipping from the desk to approach the other girl. The store was mostly empty and Ino had a stack of magazines lined up. She was no doubt looking forward to the conversation. Sakura explained her goal and asked for her wizened advice on the topic of brining people together. Ino hummed, watching as Sakura firmly explained her mission.
"So you've come to me for help?" She asked, eyebrow high.
"Yes. You would understand." Sakura replied with a hopeful look on her face, bright green eyes imploring. Ino nodded sagely, peering out the window.
"Flowers. We can have flowers delivered to Itachi-san from Kakashi-san." Ino looked around the shop and Sakura nearly clapped her hands in excitement. Of course! Flowers were perfect!
"Oh yes!" Sakura gushed. "Maybe these pretty yellow carnations?" She pointed to them, smiling brightly.
"No! no, no no!" Sakura yelped in shock at Ino's explosion. "There is a language to flowers and yellow carnations are rejection! We can't send Itachi rejection flowers!"
"Oh! I didn't know!" Sakura wailed in dismay. A rejection flower? Did those really exist? Ino sighed wearily. Sakura looked around at the flowers, wondering what other secrets she was ignorant to. The blonde reached out and pat Sakura's arm lightly.
"Here, let me make you a bouquet to send." Ino danced around the shop and Sakura watched as she picked several types from different sections of the store. She would eye each with a keen eye before nodding to herself and adding them to the bouquet.
"Here we have variegated tulips. They mean beautiful eyes...and you've seen Itachi-san's eyes. So obviously Kakashi has too. Red camellia, which is burning passion. Gotta have that. Daisies for loyalty and one red rose for love and respect." She held out the colorful arrangement to Sakura who felt fluttery at all the romance. She took the bundle and went to pay for them but Ino waved her off. "Consider it a gift. We need more romance in this village."
"Oh! I couldn't possibly...I-" Sakura babbled out her thanks and Ino slipped a white camellia into Sakura's hair and offered the girl a smile, tapping a slim finger against her nose.
"I'll see you after, okay?" She assured the smaller girl who nodded, thanking Ino.
"It's the oddest thing." Itachi hummed that night as he sat in his room with his brother. Sasuke turned towards him curiously.
"What is?" He asked, watching as his brother continued to tidy up the room.
"I received a bouquet of flowers from Kakashi-senpai. I never took him for the type to send flowers. I wonder what he wants." Itachi pointed to the flowers and Sasuke was on his feet in an instant. He read the tag, noting it was stamped rather than written. No way to trace it back to anyone it seemed. This had Haruno written all over it. He glared out the window, hands curling into fists. The pink she devil would not succeed.
Flowers delivered: check.
Kakashi and Itachi in love: Still working on that.
Sakura was still plotting and Sasuke was still brooding. This left Naruto to his own devices which usually ended with him avoiding his friends. Too much drama for him, you know? Sakura had already set out a mariachi band and Sasuke had responded with cold sharp precision and chased them off. Sakura had then tried to have a live poet follow Kakashi, but Kakashi had assumed they were trying to sell him something and had made himself scarce. Somehow Kiba and Shikamru had gotten wind of the whole fiasco and were making bets on who would win between Sasuke and Sakura. Ino had taken it upon herself to act as wingman to Sakura and Sasuke had used the power of guilt and honor to get Naruto to follow him. It would have been much simpler to let Itachi and Kakashi do as they wished, but that wasn't going to happen.
It finally reached a head when Hinata informed Kiba who told Shikamaru who mentioned to Choji who told Ino who told Naruto who blabbed to Sasuke and Sakura that Itachi and Kakashi were both at the village cafe together. So, naturally there was amad diash for the cafe. Sakura knocking Sasuke out of her way to ensure the meeting did not go interrupted and Sasuke latching onto her ankle, prepared to break up whatever was happening. Naruto trailed behind with the rest of Rookie nine, all taking bets now. Sakura flipped the Uchiha over her head and onto his back, knocking the wind out of him with a triumphant roar. In the background Ino nodded mouth pressed into a firm line. The pair burst through the cafe, nearly taking out Genma who was trying to eat his damn soup in peace. They found the table they were looking for and Itachi looked up, face impassive as Kakashi sighed.
"THEY'RE TRYING TO LET THAT PERVERT DEFILE YOU-"
"GIVE LOVE A CHANCE-"
"CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE THEM STOP?! I HAVEN'T SLEPT IN THREE DAYS!" Naruto wailed from somewhere out of sight.
Kakashi and Itachi were sitting in the cafe. Itachi held a smoothie in one hand, the other was linked with Kakashi's. The two men looked from the pile of children on the floor to each other. Sakura and Sasuke instantly tried speaking over each other, Sasuke shoving Sakura away while the girl took him into a headlock, neither willing to let the other go. Kakashi slowly pulled his hand away from Itachi's and crossed his arms over his chest, studying his squabbling students with a lifted eyebrow.
"You two would be perfect together!" Sakura called out, elbowing Sasuke in the ribs.
"Don't listen to her, Aniki! She's all forehead and no brains!" Sasuke shot back and in the background, Ino rolled up imaginary sleeves until Choji pulled her back.
"Uhh, guys...I don't know how to say this, but Itachi and I are already together." Kakashi piped up.
"Wait what!?" Both Sasuke and Sakura stopped their arguing to turn to their sensei who shifted, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. Ino shifted from where she held her own flowers and Shikamaru sighed. "All this work for nothing." He sighed wearily, and turned walking right out of the cafe.
"Yeah, for like four months now." Kakashi confirmed, nodding his head as Itachi hummed in confirmation, still slurping on the smoothie. Sakura and Sasuke stared. Itachi played footsies with Kakashi under the table, smirking lightly at the whole display.
"It's okay guys, they're already doing each other!" Kiba shouted to the rest of Rookie Nine. There were some cries of glee and dismay. Shino shrugged, over the whole thing and Kiba gave chase of Shikamaru to figure out about the money.
"So, you've been dating?" Sasuke pulled himself to his feet as Naruto helped Sakura up. Rookie nine slowly dispersed, leaving just Ino and Team 7 behind.
"Yes." Itachi replied, still slurping and looking well at ease. Sasuke looked as if Itachi had just said he had slaughtered their whole family just for the lulz. He stepped back, hand over his heart. Naruto lifted his eyes to the ceiling. Damn Uchihas'.
"So it's over then?" He asked. "We're done here? I can go eat now?"
"Yeah, go away." Kakashi waved them off, settling back down to reclaim Itachi's hand. Naruto cheered in glee and grabbed Sasuke's shoulder. Sasuke glared at Kakashi as if preparing to kill him. Sakura nearly swooned as she watched the pair hold hands. She was right! They were perfect together!
"Sakura, can we go now? Let them enjoy their date?" Ino nudged the girl's arm and she slowly nodded, tearing her arms away from the wonderful scene in front of her.
"Yeah, let's go." She looked to the blonde who grinned at her, blue eyes dazzling in the cafe lighting.
"Oh thank god." Ino declared and shoved the bouquet of red carnations she had been holding into Sakura's arms.
