When I came across that "joke" from Tav to Quill and Z'rell's comment (plus Halsin), I had to take a minute to process what happened. Gale might be a bit silly and eccentric but he's the kindest, sweetest and most passionate character in that party. No wonder the poor man has deep insecurities to solve, so many people reduce him to an easy target! Ofc one of the side effects would be overconfidence and ambition as a defense mechanism. He's obv lonely; only Tara and Morena ever loved him for him.

his eccentric nature might be a part of it. he is loquacious, outgoing, and doesn’t see the point in hiding his enthusiasm. he is considered to be the weird one. naturally, wizards in general being seen as somewhat squishy and physically weak might also add to it.

personally, i really don’t like the implications of the (widely considered) autistic-coded character being the one who faces the most ridicule by far by other characters and fans (and larian) alike.

some might disagree with me on that, but i don’t find it funny by any means either. mostly it just makes me feel bad. “he deserves it. cocky, arrogant, hubris-ridden wizard needs to be taken down a peg” like he isn’t… y’know… already at his lowest. it also disregards the fact that much of his bravado is part of his carefully curated Great Wizard of Waterdeep™ persona that he has skillfully adopted to mask his general feeling of being defective. being fiercely proud of your skill and knowledge and being doubtful of having something truly worthwhile to offer are mindsets that can coexist. according to fandom, gale is either secret hubris incarnate that is only waiting to be unleashed upon the world or pure baby that can do no wrong. instead of a character that is just as flawed and traumatized as all the others, but no less deserving of genuine love.

to me, the constant ridicule just reads as further feeding into his deep-rooted insecurities and his belief that he (as gale, the person) isn’t someone who holds inherent worth. it really, really doesn’t sit well with me.

Thinking about Sam and how central autonomy and violation is to his character. How many times and ways he had his choice taken away throughout the series. All the things we don’t know about his time with Lucifer, but are also so heavily implied that we do.

Imagining he eventually gets out of The Life and becomes a victim’s advocate. He ultimately decides not to try and pursue law school at this stage in his life—it’s been so long and so much has changed—but finishes his bachelor’s and pursues a master’s in social work. He never expected to end up here: the boy with the demon blood, no longer living out some doomed and twisted fate, helping people. He’s passionate about representing those made most vulnerable and unsafe in their own skin, supporting others as they come out the other side survivors, lending the compassion he’s always struggled to have for himself. Every time he listens to someone else’s story, helps connect them to resources, advocates for their case, he heals a little bit too.

Not to be sad on main but like if in season 2 timeline after the fight at the Byers steve planned this whole scenario to publicly humiliate billy and get back at him and finish their rivalry once and for all

But once it’s been executed billy doesn’t look angry and embarrassed like Steve was expecting. He just looks…really sad. And still embarrassed but not in any way steve can enjoy. He looks scared. And what Steve doesn’t know is billy had gotten into a real bad fight with neil earlier that day that already left him shaken and downtrodden so this hit him at the absolute worst time and there’s no glory in it for steve when he sees billy sneaking off to the bathroom or his car or wherever. Is pretty sure he saw tears sun the guys eyes and Steve thinks he SHOULDNT feel sympathy for him after what he did to his face. Fuck that guy. But it doesn’t stop this remorse eating away at his chest, pulling him in billys direction to check on him

Solomon constantly asking for your reassurance whenever he engages in anything romantic is due to his insecurity that he isn’t as important to you as the brothers. He needs to know you want to do this, he needs to know you love him.

If you say no he immediately backs off. You have to go out of your way to kiss him. There’s never a dialogue option that leads to a kiss without you explicitly asking for one, unlike some characters.

It hurts to see Logan struggling so much. Who doesn’t follow him in feeders might think that this guy doesn’t worth the hype and should be booted out of the seat immediately.

But the fact that he was right there with Oscar fighting for the F3 title and he could’ve given a hard time if not being hit off by another driver right after the start… says a lot! He didn’t have the money to move up the F2, stayed another year and dragged the worst team to a P5 finish in the standings. 80% of the points were collected by him.

He had an okay year in F2 after, not spectacular but alright enough to get the SLP and move up to F1.

He’s under immerse pressure with the one year contract hanging above his head. He pushes himself hard hence the crashes he had over the season. James is very supportive and doesn’t say anything but encouraging words. Now that Liam isn’t contracted with AT, I reckon he’s the main competitor for taking his seat seeing his improvement after just three races.

I just wish people would be more understanding and looking into things before opening their mouth and destroying human beings confident even more.

Shigaraki and Kurogiri as brothers

Not biological, of course. Anyway, I wanted to bring this headcanon outside of twitter. I usually flinch at unnecessary applications of familial terms (I’ve admittedly never liked dadgiri) but I do feel like there's a stronger case for this one, especially with it’s darker tones related to AFO’s cultish “family” of victims. So, I wanted to share my thoughts.

This first point is more of a simple one. Shigaraki and Kurogiri are both AFO’s “students”. It gets lost in translation since it all gets coined as “master”, but they are the only two recurring characters who refer to him as “sensei” (teacher/professor/master)- Machia refers to AFO as “Shū” (lord/head of the house/master).

And, well, AFO definitely raised Shigaraki. Kurogiri ominously says that “Shigaraki isn’t the only one he raised/molded/groomed” when referring to Machia, and he follows it up with “meet another one of AFO’s loyal servants”. Kurogiri tends to be put into panels that have double meanings and it’s very easy to make the connection that he could be talking about himself, too.

There's the third point that there's a strong theme of a cult-like family in the children that are orphaned/kidnapped by AFO and Garaki. AFO explicitly refers to "raising" Touya and being part of a family (of future Nomu).

On top of all of this, you have to look at their ages. Kurogiri has been raised by AFO from as young as 17. Bakugo and Toga are currently 17, if that helps with perspective. An older kid, but still impressionable. Maybe not always happy with all the lessons and dress-up, but he didn’t have the ability to leave. He was brought in at around the same time as Shigaraki, and their age gap is around 10-11 years.

So, here’s the logic. Kurogiri and Shigaraki were kidnapped around the same time, they were both kids, and they were both groomed-raised by the same man during the same time period. They view AFO with a similar reverence. He’s their sensei. Kurogiri doesn’t have any more ability to fight AFO’s will than Shigaraki does, even if he knows more.

So, rather than Kurogiri being a "dad", AFO is the "dad" to the two of them while Kurogiri is more of an "older brother" that's made to babysit Shigaraki (canonically, 'babysitter' is the only concrete term used to describe Kurogiri's role).

Once you realize they can be read as brothers, a lot of their interactions suddenly takes a more lighthearted tilt to it and a lot of things click in place.

I want to take a moment to debunk some interpretations I’ve seen that Shigaraki treats Kurogiri horribly or something, that it’s this awful abusive power dynamic. For one, Kurogiri can, in fact, say “no” to Shigaraki and his whims. He can’t say no to AFO assigning him as his protector, but this is a job that he genuinely doesn’t seem to mind.

The reason he does most of what Shigaraki says is that he, according to Ujiko, babies him like hell. 254 is the hammer on the nail that Oboro just genuinely likes and cares about Shigaraki, with his care for him being the very reason that Aizawa is able to recognize him under the mist. I’d even argue that the reason that Shigaraki’s voice is on the tape recorder is because AFO knew that Kurogiri would move regardless of mind control.

And, if you really look at the way Shigaraki talks to him, if you read him as a little brother, suddenly all the “idiot”s make a lot more sense. I’ve never quite placed how it’s intended to read but now it’s clear it’s “ugh, my stupid idiot babysitter who can’t read my mind”. It’s a very, dare I say, sibling thing to do!!

And Shigaraki cares in return. He’s clingy at heart. When it’s all over, I can’t imagine either of them would carry much or any resentment. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to have a proper reunion yet, but I’d be shocked if they didn’t.

That’s not to erase the complexity of their relationship that comes with the two of them being under AFO’s thumb, though. There’s plenty of other meta about how Shigaraki is abused by AFO (and it should be obvious how Kurogiri is controlled) so it doesn’t bear repeating here.

Kurogiri aids AFO’s plans and Shigaraki takes advantage of Kurogiri’s mind-controlled service, but at the same time, Kurogiri physically can’t dissent and Shigaraki is likely left in the dark about everything. For the two of them, there’s an underlying sense that they can’t save each other.

They can care, but not too much, and they can’t cling or protect respectively in any meaningful way. That’s why they both need outside help in order to have a relationship that’s genuinely as deep and meaningful as it could be.

Speaking of darker readings... There’s three main big brother/little brother relationships in mha: Toya/Shoto, Tensei/Tenya, and AFO/Yoichi. They’re all vital to the plot, and it‘s worth mentioning that the first two have similarly large age gaps as Kurogiri/Shigaraki. However, AFO always had a "complicated" relationship with Yoichi. Despite that, he seems to have a great desire to be with him. He now lives vicariously through Shigaraki, someone that looks almost exactly like Yoichi, so why not provide him a caring big brother that gives him good advice, just as he believed himself to be? Either ignoring or playing on the fact that Tenko, himself, had an older sister around his age.

EDIT: I COMPLETELY FORGOT!!!

Hammering this in, Shirakumo and Tenko are both paralleled with Mirio and Eri. Mirio is Eri’s babysitter/brother figure while Aizawa is both their sensei… but as a much lighter, happier parallel to the horrific situation that is Kurogiri, Shigaraki, and AFO.

Read a lot & have an idea of what is and is not good to you in a book/writing

Have an idea that you want to write

Allow the idea to simmer in your mind until you’re completely sure that this is what you want to write

Do so much research

Binge-write and use about 8% of said research

Write a little bit more as it comes to you

Stop writing for probably months/return to step 4

Be reminded of the thing you were writing & start thinking of it again

Mental & emotional agony

Go back to what you have written and fix it with the shame you previously lacked

Repeat until finished/stuck on step 7

This is intended to imply days, weeks, and/or months of time between each step, but please go at whatever pace suits you best! This is your writing, after all, so just use this as a guideline :)
