STUDY IN LOKI ROMANCE

Part 6: Conclusion

Since we're only a few days away from the last episode, I decided to COUNT DOWN everything we´ve got so far ( that can be interpreted very easily as romantic ) and discuss what the actual fuck is going on with second season. Because even though I shipped lokius practically from S1E2, I absolutely did NOT expect this kind of development. (Not that I´m complaining)

Warning: This is gonna be LONG post, lots of screenshots, lots of SPOILERS, lot of "oh-my-god-they-so-cute" language, and little bit of meta.

I originally thought that this post would be everything at once, but since I have just too many screenshots this time around, I´ll have to split it. so every post will be one episode. Color coding means:

IIIIIIIIII = anything, that coud potentialy be just acting choice.

IIIIIIIIII = everything else (tzn.: whatever was written, and/or carefully prepared by filmmakers. )

side note: I already wrote, about how amazing it is, that Mobius is unable to fight but fights anyway and how beautifuly, and ridiculously brave he is HERE. But this is about Loki/Mobius interactions, so I´ll try my best not to talk about THAT. (Even when I´m really happy, that s2 continues with this formula and Mobius is still his completely defenseless while aggressively brave self. I love him, btw.) Here is count down for every episode:

Sooooo 51 lokius moments, that were completely and utterly unexpected, but yet here they are. Why? Let´s start with over look at what we´ve actualy got: Things that could technically be just acting choices and Tom´s and Owen´s chemistry together:

So... let´s scrap the theory, that romantic tention is created only by chemistry between actors (though it IS amazing and also key ingredient) and their acting choices. Because so far, screenplay, and cinematography was supporting their story as well. I feel, like I should clarify, that I do not expect Lokius kiss, or blatant confirmation to happen. I was here during Johnlock debacle. And I was here, when Destiel ended... the way it ended. And I refuse to put in creators (especially when it comes to marvel/disney) any hope, that I know can be crushed so very easily. I´m not doing this shit again. If it happens? WOW! I´m gonna be surprised. very pleasantly surprised. I will litteraly never shut up about it

But I do not expect it. Not even now, when I saw, what are creators of Loki able to put out in the world. Like this for example:

And yeah, I am avare, Loki officialy CAN have male love interest, because it was confirmed in a text, that he´s a bi.

Also there was this (very misleading) article few years ago:

Still. I can´t bring myself to hope for anything explicit. But I absolutely understand anyone, who have that hope. And I know, how great feeling it is, while it lasts. Anyway. I´m gonna look at all possible options, I can think of. Even some, I feel, are more possible then others. And maybe answer is not just one. It could be more things at once.

Explanation number one: Creators took notes on how season 1 was received. And they saw, that Mobius is very popular, well-liked character, his interactions with Loki were favorite moments according to majority of an audience, and decided to lean more into that, for viewer´s sake.

Same with sylvie. Once they saw her romantic relationship with Loki isn´t that popular, they decided to give her her own agency, own story instead.

Explanation number two: They genuinely think, they are showing deep friendship between two bros and nothing more. I mean... Loki getting close circle of friends and wanting to stay with them is a one of the bigest themes this season. They are trying to make a point about Loki changing bacause of them (and probably making sacrifice for them) But there is still very intentional difference between his relationship with Mobius and everybody else. Mobius is obviously the most important one of the bunch.

Explanation number three:

Creators want romantic scene with Sylvie and Loki to be big surprise at the end, so they tried to show as much problems and conflicts between them, as they could and limited their screentime together.

But I personaly think, this would be stupid for many reasons:

Making Mobius and Loki focus this season caused people to rooth for them, and be invested in their relationship more.

They showed multiple times, that Sylvie wants from life very different things, then Loki and their philosophical views differ greatly.

It doesn´t look like creators put enough effort into building up this kind of ending to be satisfying. It would just feel like they´re trying to surprise / shock audience. Explanation number four: They think that what they are doing with Mobius and Loki is father/son dynamic. (I´m sorry, but this would be just hilarious. If this is the case, I would love to know, what they were thinking, when they decided to leave Owen´s line: "You´re just a little pussycat" in there. Or when they look at all those acting choices and said YES, THANK YOU. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED.)

Explanation number five: They´re queerbaiting the hell out of us. And their master plan is to make us all watch and having hope and then they will throw in the finale some last minute no homo explanation and wil laugh in our faces.

(I suppose I don't have to say how much I like this option *sarcasm*)

Explanation number six:

Creators would like to make Lokius canon, but they are restricted / they´re not allowed to. So they decided to go as far, as they can. To give us little (big) nods, to give us those beutiful scenes. To double down on everything lokius related. And they know what they can get away with before casual viewers notice that there is something gay happening. (I mean... it looks like they can get away with anything but kiss at this point :D Like seriously. I saw people talking about how beautiful Dean and Castiel´s friendship was EVEN after finale, so...)

Explanation number seven:

They are doing Love triangle thing, where they will try ultimitely "please everyone" by giving us some scene that could be potentialy seen as romantic between Loki and Sylvie AND between Loki and Mobius (while leaving it for interpretation) In Czech republic, we call it: "when the wolf ate well, but goat is still alive."

Explanation number eight: They ARE able to make Lokius canon, but they actually like podtext more, then posibility to make it transparent, and that is just the way, they want to tell this story.

Explanation number nine: They were planning to make Lokius a thing (if not from the start, then after season one) and they made whole season this way, so more people would rooth for them. And it will end with some form of confirmation of their love story. ( as I mentioned above, I can´t see this happening, but that is my bad experience talking. If it happens, I deffinitely won´t be mad about being wrong here, I can promise you that :D )

I gues we will know more about their intent after episode 6. Right now, I´m actually just hoping, that story will stay consistent as much as it can. And characters won´t die. On the contrary I hope, they will end up happy, because they did earn it. I have to say, that I enjoyed this season even more then the first. And I really do hope, that finale wont make me change my mind. Regardles of intention, this show is high quality and it is obvious how much care was poured into every aspect of this season from effects, cinematography, costums, sets, music, acting... I think, that this show is a best thing marvel did in a long, LONG time.

Also please, pleaseeee let this season end at the place, where it will be possible to see Loki and Mobius in other MCU project (I would honestly watch anything, where they appear together)

And lastly: If it doesn´t end the way you wanted, please please don´t let anger to rule your actions. Do criticize as much as you want, but please don´t harrass anybody. At the end of the day, creators of this show are also just people. Don´t say anything, you wouldn´t say into their faces. If it will end badly, watch your favourite, comfort gay show, celebrate how much Lokius fix-it fanfiction we´ll have! And how much art already exists because of those first five episodes.

Or take that frustration and turn it to motivation: maybe you can create something better!

Please just don´t let TV show ruin your whole year and your creativity.

He’s been a little ball of frustration all day today, and enough is enough.

You try not to be too hard on him. His agent interrupted Saturday morning TV with news that he wasn’t getting the part he’d be practicing for. “They wanted someone younger, to appeal to the newer audiences.” He sulked through the next two episodes.

Then his sister called, and he retreated into the bedroom. His voice still carried through the closed door, switching back and forth angrily from Spanish to English. He stomped back to the couch and doomscrolled for two hours, his brows pulled together in a dark scowl.

His final straw came when you heard him groaning, “You have GOT to be kidding me!” Venturing into the kitchen, cautious of the sourness of his day, you find him tapping his phone with increasing annoyance.

“What’s wrong?” you ask, moving to lean beside him. His whole frame is tight, frustration directed at the world around him wafting off in heady waves.

“If I’m too fucking old and too fucking lazy to get anything I want, then fuck it, I’m going to order a pizza and not give a shit about the diet. But the fucking delivery app keeps crashing and I just would like one goddamn thing to work today!” He shoves his phone across the counter, your hand stopping it from skittering off the edge to add to his annoyance.

“How about you go take a shower and we lay down for a little while?” you ask, lightly stroking Dieter’s back. He takes in a deep breath and whooshes it out, scrubbing at his face.

“I’m sorry, it’s just been a shitty day,” he says, letting you tug him towards the master suite.

“Everything gets better once you’re in bed,” you say, leading him to the shower. He groans quietly.

“Baby, I’m not really in the right headspace for that.” You cup his cheeks and rest his forehead against yours, tapping the tips of your noses together.

“That’s not what I mean. We’ll cuddle up and put on a movie and when we get hungry I’ll make something. But right now, you’re gonna try and relax.” Switching on the shower, you usher him in and close the door behind him. He looks through the glass at you in the perfect imitation of a Sarah McLachlan dog shelter commercial, and you draw a little heart in the steam.

Giving him a few minutes to decompress, you turn down the fluffy bedspread and change out of your day clothes. Shuffling around in your drawers, you find the perfect outfit to don before Dieter steps out damp and loose. The towel wrapped around his waist lets you admire his soft broad body, dimples and divots you love mapping with your mouth. He’s slicked his hair back but a few errant curls poke out.

“That was needed, thank you,” he says, pulling out some neon green boxer briefs and tugging them on. They make his butt look absolutely adorable, and his bulge sizeable. You really should get him more of those. As he approaches, a smile begins working its way across his face.

“What are you wearing?” he asks, kneeling on the edge of the bed as you pose dramatically in the pillows.

“Why Mr Bravo, don’t you recognize the white elephant gift of last Christmas Eve?” Draped over your body is a white T-shirt with a badly rendered line drawing of sexy lingerie where it would fall on your silhouette. You’d won it at a party, and the terrible quality matched with the hilarious design made you keep it in the back of your drawer.

“I thought we ruined that,” he says, crawling up the bed to hover over you. The weight of the day is smoothing from his face, fingers curling around the hem of the shirt. “You’ve got much better underwear than this.”

“Dieter, don’t you dare take off the Seduction Shirt!” you crow, squirming below him as he redoubles his efforts to get the hideous shirt off. You nip at his biceps, digging your fingers into his sides to tickle yourself free. He tries to keep up, chasing after your crawling form and yanking you back into his embrace.

He gets it halfway up your stomach when you manage to roll you both, pinning him on his back with his knees folded over your shoulders. He’s full on laughing now, cheeks a ruddy red and coughing with exertion. You let him catch his breath until he looks down up at you, a warm smile across his face. Pushing his thighs up to his chest, he takes in a small gasp, pupils blow out and hands clenching. Gaze drifting down, you find him hard and twitching in his boxers, your tits pressing softly. Cautiously, you stroke your palm up his length. He throws his head back, stomach tensing.

“Do you want…”

“Please.”

You’re stripping his boxers off in record time, sliding down so you can take him into your mouth in one quick slide. He chokes, hips bucking as your practiced touch massages behind his balls. Keening and hissing, you set a fast pace to topple him into pleasure quickly, adding two fingers pressing firmly at his hole. He’s babbling as your lips slide up and down his shaft, sucking hard and swallowing around the thick intrusion.

“Oh fuck, baby, I’m…” he begs, and pride swells when he cums down your throat not two minutes after you began. You love knowing exactly what makes Dieter explode, and how quickly you can achieve it. Easing him down, you climb up to snuggle into his open arms.

“Don’t know why I said I wasn’t in the headspace, I’m always in the right mind for you,” Dieter says softly, lips dragging over your temple. You smirk into his chest.

“It’s the Seduction Shirt, works every time.”

Quicker than you expect he rolls you, pinning your hips and ripping the shirt over your head to discard in a corner of the room.

“There, no advantage now,” he snarks, rubbing his scruffy face into your neck. Fighting against the ticklish touch, you koala bear around him and pull him down to entwine.

“So if anything happens now, it’s all thanks to my own sex appeal?” you ask with faux curiosity. Dieter pops his head out to bathe you in warmth you’ll never get enough of.

“Damn right.”

How I would fix the Gang War Arc in BUCCHIGIRI?! (Part 2)

So I made a lot of changes that happened in Episode 3-4 but I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned how I would change Episode 1-2. Now, I don’t think it would experience much change compared to the last one but I’ll definetely try to change some things here and there. Also it is very long too so bear with me:

- So first off, I’ll change Arajin’s whole motivation from the get go. Instead of making his goal of losing his virginity, he would instead wish to be a cool guy. As in he would revolve around being the cool new kid at school. This of course means donning a pair of glasses and a bass to show off. (Which of course would make everything ironic and also play more into the Aladdin parallel)

- The two guys that appear in the temple back in the first episode and frequent visitors of the Tomoshibi family restaurant would still appear but I’ll also have them be like commentators regarding the ongoing events that happens in the episode. (I’m assuming that they’re attending the same school as the rest of the cast or different ones)

- Matakara’s intro wouldn’t change and the same goes for the Teacher as well explaining to Arajin the small basics of what he is going to experience in Ichizu High.

- Instead of Arajin going after Mahoro, it is Mahoro who goes to Arajin after the latter made his first introduction. He would still have it bad for Mahoro but I’ll change his reaction to ‘Huh, wow I can’t believe she would be into me but I’ll play it cool.”

- The scene where Zabu and Komao meets Arajin wouldn’t change but I would have them be a tad forceful towards the poor boy in that they want him to join their club. (In fact, I headcanon that the gang members, be it from Minato Kai or Siguma Squad, tends to happen with any new kid on their first day of school with some exceptions)

- Chase scene and the whole reunion between Arajin and Matakara would still happen while Zabu and Komao are bewildered and Arajin being uncomfortable with Matakara claiming him to be the coolest and strongest person he knows. (Which makes his cool kid motivation all the more ironic because Arajin wasn’t honest to the one person he knew since childhood, Matakara)

- Marito’s establishment scene along with the Siguma Squad base first being seen is still the same.

- In fact, I’ll have the rest of my rewrite of the first episode play out the same way as canon for the most part tbh but there would be some notable differences.

- Arajin wouldn’t go to the stone shop to make a soapstone for Mahoro, since in my rewrite I toned down his relationship with Mahoro in that he doesn’t desperately simp for her to the point he’s ignorant of everything happening in the plot, but that he has a shift at the family restaurant again. (Emphasizing more of his helpful side and that despite being rude to his mum, he still helps her and such, especially since he’s helping her take over the family business at some point).

- Arajin’s second meeting with Zabu and Komao can still happen. But instead of them meeting Arajin just so that they can lure him to the NG Boys and humiliate him, I’ll have them meet Arajin by coincidence where they’re heading over to a minimart to help run errands for Matakara.

- Of course, Arajin is exasperated at seeing them because of their association with Matakara and that they have ulterior motives (they do), but not wanting to put up with the hassle, he decided to just put up with these two and help them with their errands all the while hoping that once they’re done, they can leave him alone.

- While they’re walking to the minimart, Arajin came across an unknown group of boys (NG Boys) beating up some scrawny guy with a red hat and yellow hoodie (Hagure). Arajin was shocked and appalled at this scene and asked his two classmates if this is a common occurrence. Both Zabu and Komao stayed silent and looked away from it.

- This would of course establish that they, or rather some of Minato Kai, hold prejudice on their rival gang, Siguma Squad, seeing them as bloodthirsty babarians and such.

- Arajin would still have gut problems but he wouldn’t leave to go to toilet instead I’ll have it represent the unconscious guilt at what transpired between him and Matakara since childhood.

- This frustrates Arajin because of their indifference to what’s happening in front of them, so he decided to help out the poor pink hair boy that was being harassed by the men in white uniform. He first threw a pebble to get their attention and once the NG Boys grunts saw him, decided to give chase to Arajin.

- Zabu in particular was pissed at the fact that this new kid they met yesterday threw himself into the fray at those guys but the moment he and Komao, saw Hagure getting up from his injuries, decided to duck out from the scene. (Because he’s a Siguma Squad member) But unfortunately for them, this would spark a bitter rivalry between them and another person who just came out from the minimart.

- Basically, I establish Hagure and Jabashiri a little earlier in the above scene. Speaking of, Jabashiri came out of the minimart with shopping bags containing snacks for the Siguma guys to enjoy but he was shocked at seeing Hagure injured. Hagure brushes it off that he is fine before wincing from pain. Jabashiri scanned the area to see who caused it and the moment he caught a glimpse of Zabu and Komao running away, he immediately assumed that it was them who hurted Hagure.

- Zabu and Komao on the other hand, instead of relaxing back at the bathhouse Matakara is staying at, they would come back panting from all the running they did but were disappointed they turned up empty-handed.

- Matakara on the other hand, was still busy working out (yes I kept the workout scene for our puppy boi) but the moment he saw his two friends panting for breath, asked his two best friends what has happened.

- Zabu and Komao looked at each other and both kinda lied that they tried to get the stuff Matakara needed but they ran into Arajin and how he treated them to his family restaurant’s cooking instead (I like to think it was Komao who said most of it and that he interrupted what Zabu was about to say lol).

- This of course backfired hilariously because now Matakara has his attention on Arajin and this fueled Zabu’s jealousy. (I still kept the scene where Matakara put Arajin on a pedestal but the scene is now played out differently)

- NNL Segment still happens of course since they’re the Greek Chorus of BUCCHIGIRI?! and I think it’s personally entertaining in some parts.

- Back with Arajin, he tried to run away from the NG Boys harassing him until he, unknowingly, reached Honki Temple. He tried to lock the door from the NG Boys but to no avail, they bust through the door and Arajin was left cornered until he saw a box containing a flintlock gun right behind him. (The scene would still be the same but Arajin has his clothes intact on him albeit dirtied)

- The scene of Arajin trying to attack the NG Boys grunt is still the same as his is meeting with Senya so I’ll leave it alone.

- Back in his room, Arajin tried to do an Internet search regarding Senya and what he is but the search results weren’t reliable (Which is the same scene after Arajin acquired Senya ofc but I’ll have Arajin be more curious towards Senya and his origins)

- While Arajin is sleeping, he started to experience nightmares of him as a child witnessing child Matakara beaten up by the thugs targeting them and how he ran away. And when Arajin yelled out, Senya in his chibi fairy form, came out and asked Arajin why he screamed.

- Sweating from fear, Arajin took a quick look at the outside view from his window and then his alarm clock before he realized that he is late for school but then he realized ‘oh it’s the weekend!’ but he had another freak out because he has to help his mum with some important client elsewhere in the early afternoon. (I expanded the Tomoshibi family restaurant a bit in that they also offer catering services to important events 👍🏻)

- Of course, while getting dressed (which is basically the outfit he wore in his and Mahoro’s ‘date’ btw), Arajin checked out the metal dot that is in his temple, curious regarding why it’s here. Mrs Tomoshibi, who is still in her pyjamas, asked Arajin if he can go to the client’s meeting place by himself, since she has yet to be dressed. This of course pissed Arajin off and he yelled at his Mum to get changed quickly.

- And so, he walked to the park to cool off and also because the event is nearby as well. Of course, there’s Senya and he asked why he couldn’t go there by himself to which Arajin answered in an exasperated manner that he doesn’t want to be there early.

- The ‘date’ scene with Mahoro would be different in that instead of a ‘date’, Mahoro was passing by to meet up with her big brother (Marito) and his friends. Arajin was surprised by this coicidential meeting and so, the two of them chatted for a bit.

- Because I changed the scene where Arajin doesn’t make the soapstone for Mahoro and doesn’t confess to her, I would have him try to be friends with her but just as they’re walking, suddenly a horde of NG Boys would then come by.

- Arajin was shocked because he thought that he scared them off until he realized that there’s are the same exact guys who chased him but the only notable differences is that he bought backup.

- The NG Boy grunt (who is basically a higher up to Akutaro) wanted payback for what Arajin has did to him and his friends and for interrupting their beat up.

- Of course, Arajin is scared and his gut is growling because of the paralyzing fear he is experiencing. And of course, the NG Boys would then jump on Arajin while the other would take Mahoro hostage.

- However, Mahoro wouldn’t let it happen and decided to fight the random touching her. (Yes I gave Mahoro some fighting skills that she picked up from Marito but in a unrefined fashion)

- Zabu and Matakara can still have a scene together where both guys are watching the scene of Arajin being brutalized and Matakara is the one who took action while Zabu is ignorant of it.

- Senya lamenting at his host being weak and trying to leave not before Arajin says his wish and merging with Senya prior to Arajin being knocked out from th last attack would still be the same.

- Arajin’s wish invocation would be different as I stated in the first point in that instead of losing his virginity, he wishes to be cool instead. (It’s still ridiculous from Senya’s POV lol)

- Arajin would then beat up the NG Boys harrassing him and Mahoro with sending some of them flying.

- Matakara managing to arrive at the scene to see Arajin’s powerup and being in awe Utsumi-style would remain the same lol.

- In fact, I have most of the earlier scenes of Episode 2 play out the same except that Siguma Squad arrived a little later, probably because Mahoro called her brother over to deal with the NG Boys but instead of helping her out, Marito turned his attention to Arajin instead who is still powered up by Senya, this of course catches Marito’s interest.

- Mahoro on the other hand is not amused by this lol and the Siguma members even wonder what does their leader even see in this plain guy.

- Arajin had no idea what just happened and why there are a lot of NG Boy goons lying on the ground before Senya chided him for the ridiculous wish invocation he made and Arajin retorted back that he had no idea why that came to his mind.

- Unfortunately, one of the NG Boys got up, albeit still injured and proceed to send both Arajin and Senya flying into the pond, like what happened in canon.

- Matakara rushed in to help Arajin out of the river but he bumped into Jabashiri like in canon and Jaba having an intense hatred for Matakara.

And that’s my basic outline of rewriting Episode 1 and the first half of Episode 2. I would tackle the later parts of Episode 2 and the expansion of Episode 3-4 in another post. I know I made Marito a tad bit bland in my rewrite but I rather have a slight buildup to his character. Though you are free to add in anything.

OFMD Spiral Parallels 29: Silk Robes and Ed's Self-Identity

Intro: What I love most about how season 2 builds on season 1 of OFMD is the spiral narrative structure. Ground is repeatedly and explicitly re-trod from season 1 to season 2, but in season 2 everything goes deeper than season 1. Symbols appear and reappear, transformed. Meanings are shuffled, emotions are stronger and truer, and transformation is showcased above everything. The first season plucks certain notes, then the second season plucks the same ones--but louder, and then it weaves them together to create a symphony.

When Stede dumps Ed in the first season of OFMD, Ed spends most of the next episode wearing Stede's dressing gown. The immediate reason he does this seems to be just wanting to be comfortable: when he gets back, he ransacks Stede's cabin for cushions and blankets, then uses those to make a fort.

It's all pretty explicitly childish, but that's not bad. Ed's childhood was traumatic, and in this episode and the previous one, Ed external maturity level is more closely matching his internal emotional maturity level. Ed didn't get to be a kid, he didn't get to be a cringey teenager in love. He's only been able to access this part of himself through Stede, but even with Stede gone he's using what was left behind to figure stuff out about himself. Surrounded by warmth and kindness, he can wear a comfy pink silk robe and slog through an experience of deep emotional discomfort.

And this starts to have real positive results. Ed sings a cringey song to the crew, then explicitly embraces a new identity within that community. He encourages artistic expression, and the group starts to form up around him (a more successful result than Stede's encouragement of the crew's sewing in the first episode). Then he goes back and starts cleaning up the mess he'd made in the cabin. The whole thing is undignified and awkward, but it's genuine positive growth. Wearing the silk robe is good for him.

And then Izzy destroys it all. He tells Ed changing like this is "a fate worse than death." Ed's defense then exposes the fragility of his new identity: "I am still Blackbeard."

And that's actually true: we all contain multitudes, and Ed's identity can include both "Edward" and "Blackbeard." But Izzy rejects the idea that Ed could be both these things. He flattens Ed into one of two mutually exclusive identities. There's Blackbeard, or there's Edward.

And he attacks Edward, hits Ed right where he knows it'll hurt: in just how undignified and "unmanly" he's being, and in how hurt he is to have lost Stede. And just like the kraken was born so Ed could fight back against his father's hurt, the Blackbeard persona takes over to fight back against Izzy's hurt. And Ed take off the silk robe and puts his leathers back on, to project the image of Blackbeard to the world.

And then a pile of time passes, and Ed does a heap of bad shit that can't be undone (Izzy's lost leg is a constant reminder) as he tries to be Blackbeard or nothing else. Stede comes back, relationship things happen, and Ed is wearing a comfy robe again.

This time, the robe certainly seems to actually be Ed's. And it's presented in direct contrast with Ed's leathers, the symbol of his life as Blackbeard. Last season, he threw all the silks in the sea and donned his leathers; this season, he throws his leathers in the sea. He wants to take away from himself the option of being Blackbeard again, to make sure he won't do things like that again by separating himself entirely from the Blackbeard persona.

In many ways, this is good. This whole episode shows how well Ed's doing compared to his headspace back in S2E2, when his despair at himself was so helpless that he chased death. While he was wearing the pink robe in response to the end of an immature relationship, now he's wearing the blue robe and making breakfast as the result of a mature relationship. He's found that part of himself again, with Stede's help.

That being said, Ed isn't really dealing with what he did in the past, with the deep kraken part of himself that Blackbeard was a manifestation of. This robe is very simple, undecorated except for a few tassels. And throwing away his leathers is trying to run from himself, just like how a few hours later he declares himself "a fisherman," and insists "fishermen and pirates are nothing alike." He's going in a better direction, but he's still operating by Izzy's flawed logic: either he's Blackbeard, or he's Edward. And because of that, he makes what might have become the biggest mistake of his life, leaving Stede to what almost became his death.

When it hits, it hits, you know?

I won't act like this was perfect all the way through, or that there's changes I wouldn't have made; and certainly I'm nowhere near as big a fan of this show as others. But at the end of the day, did I enjoy this? Was I invested in the characters and having a good time and did it get an emotional hit out of me every now and then? Am I a fan of Avataro Sentai Donbrothers? Yeah. Yeah I absolutely would say that.

It's definitely pretty disjointed in places; this is no 555. There's many points I wish the story would keep focus on some new element or that things came together better; or in fact that this series leaned MORE into Inoueisms than it did -- I was fully expecting to be super into Momoi and Sonoi than I was, for instance; and I think much of what I like in an Inoue plot just wasn't there, or at least not hard enough. Admittedly maybe it's also because I'm late to the party and this is the show EVERYONE was talking about last year and which you couldn't wade through a Toku fanbase for long before being hit by a million screenshots of the latest episode. I knew just about everything going in from major plot twists and character trajectories to every little joke and bizarre scene. So maybe, MAYBE I could have done with being a little more spoiler-free to enjoy the show; and I would have liked it a lot more were I following along at the time. I feel pretty sure of that now.

But... fuck, even with that; when it wants you to feel an emotion it is REALLY good at making you feel that emotion. Everything going on with the absolutely insane Kijino/Miho/Natsumi/Inuzuka/Sononi drama kept me hooked and had me going crazy at every choice each character made in that whole mess; Haruka was her delight and her eventual bond with Sonoza was just delightful; the whole cast and their rapidfire shenanigans was super fun to tune into each episode, Don Kaito is the funniest bit of all time, Jirou was there as well, and Momoi losing his memories of everyone at the end... THAT was a plot that drove me crazy.

This is really disjointed as a whole and it sounds like I've got a lot more negative to say than positive, but trust me when I say everything good this series does makes up for all its flaws tenfold for me. I really regret missing out on watching this show last year and I'm so glad I decided to give it a shot these past couple of months. It's certainly not for everyone, but if you're the kind of person that likes crazy... this definitely does crazy. Donbrothers is forever

Some OPLA Thoughts: Episode 5

Wow.

My post about the last episode started off with how Zoro's backstory (the portrayal of Kuina particularly) was the first thing in this adaptation to seriously disappoint me... Only to immediately follow that up with the best episode so far. I don't think I have anything negative to say about this one.

We've finally started to see that other side to Garp that I was worried had been edited out of the live action completely. That wilder, goofier side when confronted with his grandson as a pirate for the first time. That grayer portrayal of morality in this universe, when he and Koby talk about the Warlords.

I found it really interesting that Koby was so betrayed by the concept of the Warlords. I mean, I also think that's the right response, but it really hasn't been made clear yet in the live action that the World Government is super corrupt. Honestly-- I'm pretty sure I mentioned this in my post about the first or second episode-- they even toned down how much of a tyrant Morgan was. The anime made it really clear that the people of the town were just as scared of Morgan as they were of any potential pirates his unit was supposed to be protecting them from. In the live action, it could be read that Helmeppo was just an errant bad apple.

And speaking of! He's finally starting to come around. It's a prickly sort of friendship that he's building with Koby... but they are noticeably talking more-- and saying more. Those conversations aren't all insults and then stalking away in a huff like they have been up to this point. I didn't mention it in my last post, but Helmeppo had a line that really stuck out to me in episode four. It's still all argument about how they should be handling their duties in Syrup Village, but he's let his guard down enough to admit that he is jealous of the shine Garp's taken to Koby.

What stood out in this episode was his line about how Koby doesn't know shit about how the world works-- in reference to his disbelief about how the Government handles the Warlords. I was kind of ridiculing that... and kind of not. My immediate, knee-jerk reaction was along the lines of, "Really? Pampered, spoiled Helmeppo is going to lecture the boy who spent his childhood enslaved on a pirate ship about the harsh realities of the world?" But you know... That is a really interesting angle to take. That being the son of a high-ranking Navy captain, maybe Helmeppo has seen some of the injustices of how the World Government runs first-hand, and it would be great if that's what these two bond over in the live action.

Sanji's introduction has been great so far-- his fight scene looked fantastic-- and we haven't even gotten into the really hard-hitting stuff with his backstory with Zeff yet.

There were some interesting changes... but nothing that left me feeling uneasy about how it might impact the story as whole. I really hope they leave the whole issue with Don Krieg as the abridged version that it is right now. Honestly, that whole ordeal was really tedious to me in the original. I love that Nami was around for Zoro's duel in this version. (Though maybe a little disappointed that Sanji wasn't. I felt like witnessing that was a pretty major moment in him starting to understand what this insane crew is really all about.)

And Mihawk... Steven John Ward's portrayal of Mihawk is everything I was promised it would be. Really stole the show this episode.

The fight with Zoro was amazing. But also just his overall demeanor... and they gave him the best lines! Like, obviously the "I don't hunt rabbits with a cannon" one comes to mind-- in regards to only using that tiny knife against Zoro. But also, I loved his interaction with Luffy. The little, "Though I do like your hat" was such a great nod to his friendship(?) with Shanks... All of his moments were just so good.

I saw an interview with his actor where he talked about the secrecy behind the audition process-- how he didn't even know what role he was auditioning for until he got it. And how his response was to immediately call up his friends who are anime fans and ask them just how bad it would be if he fucked this up. XD

Which is exactly the response I would want. Any time I've had concerns about this show, it's always been about the writing. (And nothing too major has been messed up yet.) I've got no complaints about the acting. Everyone has killed their roles so far and brought exactly the energy to the table necessary to make this something special.

somebody who’s more up to date on what’s stated to be retconned or whatever help me out, because i’ve been rewatching phineas and ferb (again) and just finished rewatching the finale (last day of summer) and it got me thinking about all the timeline implications and what’ll happen in the next two seasons. because i’ve also seen all of milo murphy’s law and this is breaking my brain

i much would PREFER if the pnf finale stayed canon because i really love it (destroying a time loop for the end of a formulaic sitcom also including a lot of status quo changes is pretty genius) and also i hate what mml does to doofenshmirtz’s story for a lot of reasons

but it kind of donned on me once doof vowed not to be evil in last day of summer how much this confuses everything. like milo murphy’s law happened after the phineas and ferb summer (right?) and he was still evil then until the season one finale. not mention doof mentions he invented a time machine to put in the bathroom in the finale, which messes up the whole him not knowing how to invent time travel yet thing in milo murphy’s law

i also get confused about how candace against the universe fits into the timeline, because that came out way after the finale, and then candace has the development about not wanting to bust her brothers anymore, i’m assuming that happens in the middle of that summer pnf takes place in since doof is still evil. but i guess i can kind of wrap my head around that being some alternate universe “what if” scenario deal, and it is a kickass movie (or maybe she just relapsed… which… fine)

i also couldnt see them changing the status quo so much in the next two seasons that candace isn’t compelled to bust her brothers plus doofenshmirtz not being evil, even though i’d hope they would

even then, if they did do that or went with the mml timeline, wouldn’t that be confusing for pnf exclusive watchers (who would probably be watching on disney+ like me when the new seasons drop and would have almost definitely seen the s4 finale) be confused on why everything doesn’t line up??? is the mml timeline non-existent now since it’s cancelled / a different show???? has this ever been addressed. i don’t know. somebody help me my autistic brain can’t stop game-theorying about this cartoon sitcom for babies.

i probably messed something up since there’s hundreds of episodes of this show but i trust myself to be somewhat accurate in my assessment as that guy who’s seen all of pnf 3 times and watches it everyday

Summary:

As a child living in the town of Lawless, Angelo Lagusa has witnessed a tragedy: his parents and younger brother have been mercilessly slaughtered by the Vanetti mafia family. Losing everything he holds dear, he leaves both his name and hometown behind, adopting the new identity of Avilio Bruno. Seven years later, Avilio finally has his chance for revenge when he receives a mysterious letter prompting him to return to Lawless. Obliging, he soon encounters the Vanetti don’s son, Nero, and seeks to befriend him using the skills he has quietly honed for years. Set during the Prohibition era, this show tells the story of Avilio’s dark, bloodstained path to vengeance, as he slowly ends each of the men involved in the killing of his family.

Propaganda:

This series has character designs by the art director of Baccano. In fact, the setting of it being in the early 1920s in America is sort of reminiscent of Baccano. However, the story is much crueler and more grounded than that other famous series, even if it involves a similar amount of guns and blood.

The anime follows a broken and traumatized young man fueled by revenge. It’s a tragedy and a thriller and a Mafia series. We see the lengths Angelo Lagusa goes to avenge his family, whom he’s the last living survivor of. He changes his name and leads a double life, getting close to the Vanetti family, who killed his birth family. But in the process of trying to do this, he gets adopted into this Mafia family.

He must wrestle with his morality as he keeps on the bloody road of revenge. People that don’t deserve to be hurt get hurt or killed because of his actions—even dying by his hands.

It's an anime that shows just how far someone is willing to go for revenge, willing to break everything in his path for it. And considering the Prohibition era came to an end in history, was all the trickery and killing even worth it?

Trigger Warnings: Animal Cruelty/Death, Cannibalism, Emotional Abuse, Graphic Depictions of Cruelty/Violence/Gore, Suicide, Alcohol and Smoking.

This entire series is a mob story so there's lots of guns, blood, and killing. There is an assisted suicide of an important character. Also the family dog dies when the main character's family is massacred in the first episode.

Summary:

Su Moting, the daughter of a god and a monster, is the supposed Chosen One set to fix the balance of the universe, but unfortunately, she’s just barely living as it is. Only just told of her great fate, Su Moting couldn’t care less as she juggles her social life, work, and her new duties (which she doesn’t take seriously). Alongside Moting are Star Tianji and Star Dikui, a god and a monster out to help our protagonist with her grand mission. They, too, are also struggling to figure out life on Earth, as Tianji is an immortal who doubles as the god of Su Moting’s personal cellphone and Dikui is a cat monster immortal more concerned with lazing about. Somehow, they make things work as the best worst roommates of all time.

Propaganda:

Four-season donghua (Chinese anime) that’s so recent and seeped in American pop-culture that I needed to do a double take when a literal cockroach said “Run, Forrest, run,” in English with a heavy Chinese accent. There’s a cat who plays video games (he’s very good at it), a phone who’s the worst kind of hype man, a sentient air conditioner, a guy who can shapeshift into any vehicle, off-brand Super-Man but jerky, a high-ranking god that collects anime figures, and the mega ultra cool protagonist who is a normal human girl fresh out of college and always low on money. It’s great

All the TW’s above are done for comedic effect, but they come in fast and hard with the humor. Better safe than sorry! The biggest things I remember are one or two “blink and you’ll miss it” racist jokes, characters joking about killing themselves out of embarrassment (no one goes through with it), and there’s a LOT of self-harm via stupid decisions. Stupid things like tying a loose tooth to the back end of a sports car sort of stupid. The protagonists have 3 brain cells collectively.

Ms. Incredible & InvisiGirl

What is it — a spin-off series/reboot of The Incredibles (2004) with both Holly Hunter and Sarah Vowell reprising their roles as Helen and Violet.

PREMISE:

Gloomy, shy and socially withdrawn Violet Parr can't believe this. Due to her parents having to leave on business for an unspecified time, she's forced to stay with her Aunt Helen who she hasn't seen since she was little and Helen is now looking forward to spending time with her with her niece and get to know her better but unfortunately her niece has little to no interest in it. It's then that Violet begins having strange dreams/visions of a girl in a tight one-piece red suit with an orange "belt", black boots, gloves, and mask, a black crutch, and an insignia of a yellow "i" skulking around the shadows of the city, fighting crime and cleaning up the streets. It turns out to her complete and utter shock and horror that the girl.... is her. Discovering that the suit has given her invisibility and force field powers, Violet's "secret" that she didn't even know she had is almost instantly found out by Helen who goes full force in locking Violet down in order to protect her. However despite her intervention, everything takes yet another twist and turn on both their ends as Violet and Helen are dragged into a deadly plot to take out every remaining superhero there is by a sadistic femme fatale villainess while coming into deep conflict with the NSA as the two are now wanted for impersonating supers. Now the two have to don their suits and fight against the odds to survive as they both come into their own and have to decide whether or not they'd actually want to be heroes.

Notes/Trivia/Details:

• The series will be done in the exact same slick and noir look and aesthetic of the first film rather than the lackluster look of the second but in a way that feels like a proper updated way and version of it.

• There will be a few homages and call-backs here and there spread out to the first film with some more subtle and others more obvious like the famous ass scene as you see here.

• The reason why I changed Helen and Violet to aunt and niece is because it was a way to make their characters feel fresh and interesting again along with a new and distinctive dynamic.

• What won't be revealed until the last scene in the series finale is that Violet's parents (one of which is Helen's older sister) are actually NSA agents whose "business" they had to attend was a top secret mission in Russia that would play a part in the series.

• What will be throughout the series is that Helen and Violet will have their bumbling, screw-up, boobish moments to show that the two of them aren't perfect and top it off, to show that they're new at this.

• What will be exciting is the villain-later turned-antihero Miss Robin, a wicked and ruthless woman with shifting abilities that eventually turns over to help Violet and Helen. She will be heavily influenced by Eris from DreamWorks' Sinbad with the following actresses I'm considering for the role:

Michelle Pfeiffer, Stephanie Young, Nicole Sullivan, Idina Menzel, Eva Green, Sarah Michelle Gellar and maybe even Holly Hunter.

• There will be a couple of easter eggs and references that heavily imply a shared universe, this is for actual world-building. It's to show that there's much more to this world than what's going on with Violet, Helen and Robin.

• Other characters that will be in it are new and the following - two comic book store employees that turn out to be big help for our leads, Violet's snobby popular rival who is actually more intelligent than she looks and a police officer that develops abilities of his own.

• The show will be about three seasons with a total of 65 episodes.

You wake up to a sleeping Eren, he looks beautiful and not like a devil at all you think to yourself. You stroke his cheek and he wakes up, you kiss him gently as a good morning. “Mmmh good morning, love. How are you feeling?” Eren whispers “I feel great” you smile. “I want you to take time getting to know the palace and just relax for the day” He strokes your back. “What are your plans for the day?” you almost mumble, melting to his strokes. “I got some paperwork to get done and a meeting regarding the northern part of Eldia.” You raise your head “Do you wish for me to attend the meeting?” Eren shakes his head “Don´t you worry about legislative and executive meetings for now, just relax for now.” Eren doesn´t want you to overburden yourself by jumping straight into the issues of Eldia as you have just moved away from everything you know and need time to adjust to your new life as Queen of Eldia. “Mkay” You mutter and he apologises by kissing your cheek. Eren gets up and picks up the dress he left on the floor last night. “Thank you” you say putting on the dress, you then lie on the bed waiting for him to get dressed. So far is marriage life great, the conversations between us flow and he is quite affectionate you think to yourself.

“Love, come. I want to show you the garden." He tells you and you got up, following him to your balcony. He nearly hears your breath hitch as you get a glimpse of the garden and he turns to you with a beaming smile."It is beautiful is it not?"

"Breathtaking." You reply as you nod your head, eyes roaming over the different flowers and plants that contrasted each other beautifully. Both of you came to a stop, and Eren turns to you, one hand reaching up to cup your cheek."But not as beautiful as the woman who stands before me." He insists, grinning as you chuckle softly and hit him playfully on the arm. “The garden is called the Queen´s garden, it previously belonged to my mother but now it´s yours.” You feel honoured “I-I´ll take care of it, I promise.” He responds with a smile, you both turn around to the noise of knocking “Come in” you say as the two of you walk back to the bed. “You Majesty, we need to get you ready for breakfast,” Hitch says before her eyes widen in shock at Eren´s presence. She didn´t expect him to stay the night as Mikasa told her that he never stays. The rest of the ladies-in-waiting rush to curtsy, you can´t help but notice the eye contact between Eren and Mikasa. She breaks it by looking down almost sad, are they close? you think to yourself. “I´ll see you for breakfast then” he kisses your cheeks before walking towards his own chamber. Historia and Sasha prepare your bath, while Darcy helps you out of your dress. “How was last night?” Hitch asks curiously while changing your bedsheets. “Hitch, you are not supposed to ask a Lady about her business with her husband, especially a Queen,” Historia shouts from the bathroom. “You are no fun Historia, how are you an item with Lady Ymir” Hitch rolls her eyes. Historia and Lady Ymir? “Oh shut up Hitch” Historia shouts. “But how was it?” Darcy asks, seeming almost a bit concerned. “It was amazing, I have never experienced anything like that” You explain briefly and carefully about what happened between the two of you without revealing too much. Hitch seems like a woman with a lot of experience as she gave you the terminology of the activities you and Eren did. “Mikasa? Are you and Eren close?” You ask the black-haired girl. She was preparing your outfit for the day but froze at the question. “Y-you could say that, we are childhood friends him, Armin and I,” She says, “Aww, that´s adorable. Walking in are Armin and a tall blonde man “Your Majesties” they both bow. Armin is the first to speak “Apologise for interrupting your breakfast. Queen Y/n I´ll be your guide around the palace for the day with Reiner who has been appointed as your knight” You look over at the handsome blonde “I´m honoured, I´ll protect you with my life.” His bold statement made your cheeks burn, you both are lucky that your husband didn´t pay attention to that. “Thank you Armin and Reiner. I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. We were very disappointed to miss the opportunity to celebrate your special day with you.

You could hardly believe it. This incredible space was all yours to explore, to fill with your favourite books and tomes, and to escape into worlds of adventure and intrigue whenever you pleased. You feel a surge of gratitude towards your new husband, the King, for this incredible gift.

"Thank you," you say softly, your eyes still scanning the room. "It's...it's more beautiful than I ever could have imagined."

The advisor smiled kindly at you. "I am glad you like it, Your Majesty. I will leave you now to explore on your own."

As he made his way out of the room, you take a deep breath and close your eyes for a moment, feeling the weight of responsibility and joy that came with this incredible new addition to your life. You walk around the second level, running your fingers across the spines of the books. You are amazed by the variety of topics and genres represented in the library, from history to science to fiction.

Your heart is swelled with joy as you realize the potential of the library. You could use it to educate yourself and the people of the kingdom. Figure out ideas on how you can contribute to helping the less fortunate in the kingdom.

After spending some time in the library, you exit the room and are met by Advisor Armin and Knight Reiner, who are waiting for you outside. They smile warmly at you, and Armin suggests that you take a stroll through the “Queen's Garden”.

This post is really long and it's mostly for me to write down my thoughts semi-coherently. I apologize if it's incomprehensible😞

This one reminds me of Reo and Nagi, particularly with how hopeful they seemed after reuniting in Manshine.

'Don' means gift that makes you superior to others, kind of like a talent or a skill. The word itself is kind of evocative of something miraculous, which reminds me of how others see Nagi's proficiency in football...

Since I'm procrastinating, I'll translate the song to my best ability and try to explain why I think it fits.

(Reo convincing Nagi to join Blue Lock with him. Even though he has planned winning the World Cup with Nagi, he conveniently ignores that if one of them 'wins' Blue Lock, the other wouldn't be able to fulfill their promise. The last line reminds me of how they both thought the other was purposefully ignoring the promise during the second selection. But also it reminds me of Nagi asking Reo to help him during the Manshine game

It could be that, in the end

You've broken the glass in me

Maybe then, you could make me speak

I think you have the gift to cure what's wrong*

(This last part is a bit hard to translate. It's very metaphorical but I feel like it doesn't make as much sense in english. The last line is the most important one rn though, it's originally phrased like the person singing has something wrong with them, more like an illness rather than a flaw. The original word replaced by wrong is 'mal', which could be anything bad. A sickness, a disaster, something evil, something saddening... anyways. The original phrasing reminds me of Agi, mostly because of his whole mad doctor persona. In a way, relating this to Nagi and Reo feels like how Agi's attempts got sidelined by the cure they thought would work best: working together.)

I feel like I need to find you, however, I spend time

Wandering into myself, into my core, which I'll never find

I wish I could have you*, and treat you decently

But you've seen that I can't detach myself from my role

(* Probably meant as "I wish I could have you around" or "I wish I could be your partner") (This part reminds me of both, from the second selection up to joining Manshine. I can't help but picture those few moments where Reo interacted with Nagi like he was trying to avoid him a bit.)

I'll have to calm down and play the game you propose

I'll lower my guard, I'll welcome you and wrap myself in your skin*

Fate has given me unstable hearts

Your words ground me and stop me from collapsing

(*'wrap myself in your skin' sounds creepy but it's the literal translation. It doesn't sound as creepy (unless that's the intention), it's more like I'll warm myself with your skin, which implies an embrace or a hug, something along those lines.) (Also this is Reo during their Manshine rekindling moment. That's all I'll say I think it's clear)

After this part the chorus plays again and the last time it repeats, there's some lyrics added:

(*'return' also could be 'come back (to my senses', or return (to normalcy) ) (*Again, wrong here could be anything I listed before. This time the narrator seems to believe completely in the person they're singing at.) (This too is Nagi and Reo post Manshine vs. BM before they got their asses kicked at the PXG match, rip)

Dulce Soledad is literally Sweet Loneliness.

This one has reminded me of Bachira ever since I learned about how the whole Monster thing started, along with the rest of his backstory. I'm not translating the entire thing again but I'll put the parts that remind me of him the most.

And I watch people keeping each other company

They exchange smiles, words and looks

They have fun, they amuse themselves, they fall in love, I know

I look at them and no one looks back

However, I have you

Only with you, I have fun, you watch my back

We don't exchange words (you're always with me)

Together we hide (during the long hours)

This song is pretty short and straight to the point so there's not much to say. The song itself feels like the narrator is stuck in a romantic relationship he can't escape until the 'sweet loneliness' line. I omitted a few lines here and there since I got tired of translating, even though some of them make me think of how he talked about his dependency on the monster during the 4v4 in the second selection.
