some other misc thoughts:
shoutout to all the ppl on main who gave me song suggestions for this; not knowing what it was for
and also magik for talking me into crushcrushcrush. i got so fuckored by it even tho this is supposed to be the angst-free playlist lol. i THOUGHT about putting misery business in here but while very funny as a concept i couldn't quite abide by the lyrics. i just couldn't... (too romance-focused, not even fitting at all, though very fun to imagine him and kairi singing together in [gesturing] the future or whatever. tho i wonder if kairi shared music with him while they were regularly meeting on the beach. honestly no way she didn't? fun little bonus scene...)
had to put a courtney love song in here after realizing 1) how cornerstone she was in the grunge scene, 2) that shad would love her music
''do you want to fight me'''s quoted liner notes are meant to be shad @ sora. but you can read them however you like :)
i put the demi lovato song in here because 1) it worked 2) shad would unironically listen to it. and think it rules. one of my longest-standing canons about his music taste that is he is a sucker for female vocals. i had to! i simply did!!!
i bitched about the og mix being 8 songs of which 3 were instrumental . and then kept 2 of the 3 instrumentals. look! i couldn't not keep the doopliss theme remix! okay!! first of all its JUST SO!!! ITS SO!!! second of all i needed something to help me transition into confident, which i refused to cut
other than the instrumentals i only preserved 2 other songs from the og mix - tho half a mix is pretty solid, i guess. still felt like i was scrambling for a hot minute tho.
the four i cut were:
1) the third instrumental (which was fine but that's SO MANY instrumentals, and also it was ONLY fine)
2) the only possible interpretation of it was his crush on kairi being Weird - even if i tried to reframe it as about sora it'd still kinda be weird. ITS HONESTLY EXTREMELY PINING. WHICH ISN'T INCORRECT BUT IS LIKE. THE WRONG TIMELINE FOR THIS MIX. BAD NEWS THE LYRICS DID FUCKOR ME THO
3) angst, in the mix i didn't want to have angst ((or at least to not swing away from being mostly uptempo and SOUND confident, even if there's layers of angst underneath))
4) ANGST THAT WASN'T EVEN LIKE ACCURATE TO HIM AS A CHARACTER. I HAD TWO OTHER BETTER-FITTING MCR SONGS I COULD HAVE - AND DID ELSEWHERE!! - USE FOR HIM SO. WHY DID I GO WITH THAT ONE? HELLO???? TO WHAT END???

Hey, your blog is pretty rad. It gets me thinking. I do want to know something though. What do you mean in your about when you say that Miura "continues to admittedly write neogriffith as a morally ambiguous and interesting character?" Do you have examples in the story? I don't agree or disagree necessarily, I just like to know how you come to your interpretation.
Thank you!
That’s mostly a reference to this interview quote, from the guidebook (mostly the first sentence):
Also, manga characters tend to be judged as enemies or allies – good or evil – but I'm trying not to create Berserk using such a value system. Griffith is Griffith, and he seems appealing, but maybe from his side Guts looks like the villain. And there are probably those who find the world Griffith creates to be more to their convenience.
source
But yeah I do think this holds true in the story itself and Miura has put a lot of narrative energy into depicting Griffith’s actions in the Millenium Falcon arc as largely positive.
There’s the way Miura gave him an enemy to defeat who is pretty unambiguously evil and has a wholly negative impact on the world, which means you get scenes where, eg, even Raksas seems extremely likeable in comparison - when he leads Silat to the horrifying vat of apostle... juice that Ganishka uses in combination with captive women to create his demon army.
His apostle captains in general are all written as fully realized characters who aren’t just rapey slaves to their base desires but often like, helpful and kind. Locus is an admired knight who channels his apostle bloodlust into the tournament circuit, and after joining Griffith puts his efforts into peace and diplomacy, Grunbeld has an honorable streak (and while I have no desire to read his backstory book I do know that he’s the protagonist in it and iirc his behelit sacrifices were actually willing), Irvine has that scene where he gave Sonia his cloak as a blanket, and Zodd gets his awesome scene where he teams up with Guts to fight Ganishka (and is called Guts’ counterpart by Sonia), as well as letting the RPG group go because his squad wasn’t supposed to be killing humans. And even Raksas has the aforementioned scene with Silat.
So like, as a general rule the Millenium Falcon arc pointedly shows us a bunch of apostles that have stronger human sides than the ones we’ve been seeing so far in earlier arcs, and who do good things.
None of which is about NeoGriffith directly, but it’s about his allies and narrative and helps beg the question of where he falls on the monster <-> human scale.
Wrt NeoGriffith specifically you have things like, eg, chapter 284 where he finally returns to Midland’s army and faces down all the nobles with Charlotte coming in clutch to declare him her fiancee. This scene is a good example of how NeoGriffith is depicted throughout the Millenium Falcon arc, like, tonally - he’s positioned as the protagonist of his own story, a protagonist the reader is meant to side with, and that’s what the beats of the scene emphasize. If we were meant to be looking at NeoGriffith as a scary monstrous antagonist in this particular scene, it would be bizarre - we’d be siding with the smarmy asshole noblemen who hate Griffith because class mobility scares them, and the comedy of the scene (nobles reaching for reasons to bar Griffith from power and being foiled by convenient arrivals like the pontif and Charlotte) would feel wildly out of place. Because the tone of the scene is funny and triumphant, not sinister.
Another example is the final fight with ascended Ganishka, when humans and apostles unite in battle together - it’s awesome! Miura made it look super cool, made it feel like a triumph, and even added little details like soldiers riding into Falconia on apostles after the battle. There are like 3 epic speeches about how awesome it is that apostles and humans are working together, from Sonia to (iirc) Locus to the Pontif, and they’re right! They’re basically saying that hey, Griffith’s creating a world where people stop fighting with each other, whether that’s wars between humans or apostles preying on humans, and live peacefully instead.
Now granted that’s already been complicated by things like Griffith flooding the rest of the world with fantasy monsters to achieve that lol, but the achievement itself is pretty straightforwardly good. It’s hard to find a flaw in the basic concept of apostles not eating humans and giving peace a chance. The means are questionable, but that’s kind of the point: it’s morally ambiguous, and we’re probably meant to be asking whether the ends justifies the means. And maybe one day Miura will come down firmly against Griffith and state in the story that the ends do not justify the means, but I doubt the story will ever suggest that, eg, apostles roaming around killing innocent people was a good thing that Griffith came along and ruined.
Then you got the whole lost chapter, which Miura struck from the record by removing it from everything after the initial publication, but which is probably still accurate to the world building because Miura said he removed it for revealing too much too soon, rather than because he changed his mind about the concepts behind it. But yeah that also suggests some heavy moral ambiguity wrt NeoGriffith’s existence and purpose.
Anyway yeah basically Miura wrote half the Millenium Falcon arc with Griffith in the heroic protagonist role and it shows in the tone and structure and his actions and the allies he surrounds himself with.
(THO I will say that calling NeoGriffith “interesting” is a bit of a stretch lmao, I was probably referring to his ambiguous emotional state and the way Miura subtly keeps the reader strung along and wondering if he has any human feelings or not. A big example of this, other than Hill of Swords ofc, is when Rickert rejects him and Griffith seems to be at a loss, unable to counter Rickert’s assertion that he’s no longer his Griffith. I have a post that covers my thoughts on that a bit better if you’re interested. Also have this one too.)

EGGY prompt list
We all love the EGGY guy from TikTok (B. Dylan Hollis), so why not have a prompt list of all the things he has said in his videos? :D
Or, you know, now you can just have his quotes on your blog, because he is funny
The man looks like he does taxes for fun.
Have you no mercy?
This is culinary terrorism.
Tastes like a bookshelf--books included!

Holy crap. They went there. They really went there.
Isaiah from ep2 of fatws? That’s Isaiah Bradley, the protagonist of the miniseries Truth: Red, White & Black, written by Robert Morales and drawn by Kyle Baker--a.k.a. the heaviest, most disturbing comic series I’ve ever read.
Basically: during WWII, 300 black American soldiers are taken, against their will, to parttake in the super soldier serum experiment (the remaining soldiers in their camp are killed). Only five survives, all the others die in agony. The five remaining are taken to Europe to fight (basically treated like dogs), where four of them die in various ways, until only Isaiah remains. He steals the costume meant for Steve Rogers, and goes to a concentration camp to destroy the German branch of the supersoldier program (there is a gas chamber scene. It makes your chest constrict and your heart clench), he succeeds but then is taken hostage and brought to Hitler, who plans to dissect him to reverse-engineer the serum. He is freed, but then court martialed for stealing the uniform, and setenced to prison. He is freed after nearly twenty years, and becomes a legend amongst black people, while no-one else really knows about him. Steve leanrs about his existence in present time (the series was released in 2003) and visits him--by then the serum has mosty destroyed Isaiah’s body and mind.
The whole thing is way more disturbing than what is seen on the show, and that was already plenty disturbing.

Do you sometimes read a fic writer’s work, and just... thank all the gods this person managed to get obsessed with the same fictional people you did?
