I would very much like to follow some other fans of Loki, be they:
fans of the show itself and/or fans of the movie version
fans or followers of the actual deity
fans of the comics
That said this fandom has been an absolute dumpster fire since the series dropped, so I want to be very clear that I do not care who you ship or which Loki you prefer, but if you regularly post about how much you hate the series, the characters, the actors, other ships, etc. I do not want to interact with you.
that said Thorki is my one hard NOTP so if you're into that I am going to politely decline following you. no hard feelings

Also of note? Graz will actually speak quite openly and freely about how fucked up its culture is and all the various aspects ( most of the aspects ) that need to change.
That does not, however, mean that it's going to allow you to project those things onto it, bc it personally cut ties with its own people decades ago, lives a vastly different life from everyone but the outliers ( which does, by the way, include actively working to improve the lives of humanoids and anyone else who isn't a demon ), has never been any of the things associated with traditional illithids, and quite frankly was a victim of its own society from birth anyway.
It will understand if you're cautious bc of what it is. It will share in your anger at the majority who do actively cause a great deal of harm and have for generations. But if you take the time to understand that it has species and diet in common with the rest of its kind and almost nothing else and still choose violence? It's not going to give you grace. It's going to make dinner out of you, and you're not going to get a warning first.

Portrait spamming
Recent discovery. If you click on the portraits of the characters like crazy, they will react to it. And the developers had a lot of fun coding these reactions xD

Sometimes the state of discussion on Forgotten Realms drow stuff frustrates me because like, yes, i'd love to discuss whether keeping the Greyhawk bones of essentially an Evil Matriarchy was a good idea at all, because these things don't exist in a vacuum. Yes I'd love to discuss whether keeping the aesthetic trappings of a lot of the Greyhawk stuff did actively contribute to how weird people got about drow especially in a very niche hobby. Was it a good idea at all? Would Homeland have been written differently in the modern day (almost certainly yes)?
But it's like, no, I don't think it's inherently weird or some sort of fetish thing for the Drizzt books to turn it into a high control Lolth cult where the focus protagonist is used to explore the realities of indoctrination and religious trauma and it's genuinely committed to the idea of "what if men were, in all respects, seen as the inferior gender and a strict gender binary was used to further drive wedges into the idea of women and men ever seeing each other as people", because oh boy, Erelhei-Cinlu certainly was not like that literally at all, have you read those modules? I have! Have you read Gary Gygax's novels that introduce Eclavdra? I have! The fact we got a working society out of that is pretty fucking wild!
No, that thing you're mad at is not a novel thing, it's a sourcebook thing. No, that's a really bad faith take. No, you literally remembered that wrong because you haven't read these books in years. No, Drizzt is not implied to be good because it's in his blood, the characters literally lie to you sometimes out of desperation it's a coping mechanism, YES his dad is lying about it because he can't live with himself -- NO PUT THE BLOOD QUANTUM DOWN, STOP PUTTING IT BACK IN, I'M GETTING THE SPRAY BOTTLE

When They Double Down on Bad Takes
The person with the Bad Take about the Raksura books blocked me, so I can't respond to them directly. This is a fine, rational and valid decision. However, they indirectly replied to my response to them in a reblog, so I'm going to address it, and then work on something else. (Probably still Raksura related though.)
They indicate that the "racist connotations" of the Fell "true form" (tm) being black could have been averted by creating two factions of "Good Fell" and "Bad Fell." Apparently, they do not realize this is what we like to call "racist as fuck" in polite society. Or what we can call "The Drizzt Do'Urden Gambit" (That is, singular "good" representatives of an otherwise "default evil species.)
Let's break down why this suggestion is inherently (though obviously inadvertently because it's clear the op doesn't realize) racist.
To Split the inherently Bad Group into Factions of Good and Evil replicates the problem of "Inherent good and inherent evil" that you would want to avoid. Yes, even if it's within the same species. "One of the Good Ones, Not Like the Others (who are bad/evil/lazy)," is inherently racist, and plays on positive/negative stereotypes.
So, lets talk about stereotypes! A stereotype is a generalized and assumed belief about groups of people. Stereotypes can be about behavior, philosophy, or interpretations of the customs and beliefs of the group. Stereotypes can be positive or negative, and the "positivity" or "negativity" of that stereotype can shift depending on the situation. This is why stereotypes are universally Really Terrible and should be avoided.
A racist person or a person with unexamined racism (yes, there is a difference in my opinion, and it largely depends on how hard it is to call them out on it, and the person's willingness to correct themself) will have a number of stereotypes filed away, both positive and negative for the group they are prejudiced against. This makes it easier for them to continue to hold to their prejudices when they are confronted with individuals of the group they're prejudiced against acting in ways that don't match the stereotypes they have for that group. (This is why it's difficult to educate, and why it's difficult to self-examine. You may not realize your "positive" stereotypes about a group are as racist and bad as your "negative" stereotypes.)
Now, the greater arc of of the Fell/Raksura conflict is about confronting unexamined prejudice in my opinion. (Specifically, the unexamined prejudice one might have for longstanding enemies, not necessarily for an oppressed or disenfranchised minority. The Fell are specifically the former and not the latter, and there is a difference. It's a difference of power dynamics.)
Moon and the other Raksura hate and are afraid of the Fell, with some extremely valid reasons. (Slightly more personal in the case of Moon in the sense that he's been repeatedly driven out of communities because his flighted form somewhat resembles a Fell. And of course that entire horrifying situation with that one ruler.) They do possess a number of prejudices and stereotypes concerning the Fell. It takes a long while before they come to understand that their prejudices and stereotypes are inaccurate or just plain incorrect. (Incorrect in the sense that the Fell are for the most part NOT choosing to behave the way they do, and would choose differently if they were not being controlled by the rulers and Progenitors in a toxic mind control cycle of abuse moebius reacharound.)
It's important to note here that when the Raksura realize that they were wrong, they begin to make an effort to correct their behavior toward the Fell. This results in their establishing continued social contact with Consolation's Flight. (I really do wish we could get more of Consolation's Flight from Wells. I just really want those kids to Do Well for themselves.)
Again, the winged form of the Fell being black while the groundling form of the Fell is white is not an indication of racist imagery. It is a very weird take and does not stand up as symbolism because the Fell are still predators whether they are in groundling or winged form? I'm also not sure where they get the idea that Wells' shifters have "true" forms and "alternate forms." It's pretty clear that both the winged and groundling forms are the "true shape," as far as the Fell or Raksura are concerned. (Also also, the Fell groundling form is described as "sickly pale." Not necessarily pretty or harmless appearing. Again, a Fell is equally dangerous and predatory whether in groundling or winged form.)

what other RPG games do you like?
Heya anon, what a fun question! If I sat and listed all the RPGs I like, it would take forever. Here's a ramble instead because I'm bored on a Sunday.
I've been playing basically any kind of RPG since I got a copy of Fallout 1 in... 1999? '98? I was too young for it, but I was also too young to watch horror films then and look at how I turned out.
Pretty sure I blindly walked into the Glow in one of my first playthroughs and didn't understand why my character kept dying afterwards lmao.
Then I got into BG with BG2 when it was released. After that I started reading Drizzt novels, and that's where everything went wrong.
Either way, I like pretty much any kind of RPG. If you can find it on GOG, Steam, or Abandonware sites, I've probably at least tried it. Old-school, draw a map, tile-based dungeon crawlers like Pool of Radiance or Might and Magic? Yep, love those games. All the Infinity Engine games and their modern clones? Yep! I'm really hoping we get a Pillars of Eternity 3 some day. Even though I think they've all had massive problems so far and I've had bad interactions with the company's community management, I'll probably play the next Owlcat game too. I loved the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games when they came out, but I'm eh on ME2/3 and DA is a really uneven series. I'm less into JRPGs these days, but I've played stuff like Chrono Trigger, Persona, and most of the Final Fantasy series.
Speaking of FF, strategy RPGs are just so, so good and I've had to make do with constant replays of Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre for years...
Tabletop RPGs are my only other real hobby these days besides writing, and I'm currently on a break from running anything. I plan on running either Dungeon Crawl Classics or the MCDM RPG (if it's out by then) when I'm ready for another campaign.
I've been a Larian fan since Divinity 2 (that's the Dragon Knight Saga, not Original SIn) and the fact that they got handed BG3 is still kinda surreal even now lol. I remember Kickstarting D:OS1 and thinking it was such a fun tactical RPG with just awful characters. That's what all of their games were like before D:OS2, really. Look how far they've come! And they managed to make a system that I think is largely bad for tactical play pretty fun.
OH! I also love ARPGs. I'm thankful I don't have a real hour count of my Diablo 2 playtime since ca. 2001, because it would not reflect well on me. My Path of Exile playtime is already dangerously concerning.

hello, it is time for violence (the ask game didn't say if i should specify a fandom, so... for the drizzt fandom, unless you want to talk about a different one): 3, 6, 8, 16, 25
Oooh thank you for sending these! 3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr I've seen some questionable takes over the years but in general, the idea that characters changing and growing over the course of an almost 40 book series is somehow watering them down or disrespectful to the fans. 6. which ship fans are the most annoying? In this fandom I don't think any? I don't think this particular series attracts a ton of hardcore shippers to the point that they've made me hate a ship. 8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about Sorry, but Salvatore is actually a good writer. He's not perfect, but it's not just a happy accident and your uniquely perfect reinterpretation of the source material that has given this series its longevity. (I don't think this is super common but I've seen it enough in different forms for it to fit here.) 16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc) I don't know why Dinin is so popular!! Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against it, I just don't get the popularity of the rest of house Do'Urden tbh. But it's honestly fun to see fellow fans find characters that didn't leave that deep an impression on me initially and run with them and make me see them in a whole new way :) 25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing Honestly I keep so much of the noise blocked out at this point lol. I thought I'd have more to complain about! But I guess there's always nitpicking (which is totally fine ofc) and sometimes it just feels like. hey. this is a series that started out at a time where campy fantasy was not known for being woke (or especially deep) and has had to change to accommodate I don't even remember how many major edition and lore changes over the years. There's plenty to critique but I guess keep in mind that you can't judge a series like this the same as a non-franchise-affiliated series? Thanks for sending these again! I'm always happy to answer asks!

Zaknafein Do'Urden Romance Headcanons
(I don't generally believe he would be interested in romance after everything he went through.)
Zaknafein would need a...certain kind of person that can be patient with him. He does have a lot of issues and problems. Don't get me wrong he does have a heart deep down.
Plus it would be easier if you get along with his son Drizzt. I don't think he would want to be with someone that has beef with Drizzt.
And life in the Underdark drow city Menzoberranzan where the society considers love as a weakness. That would be tricky to differ toxic and healthy relationships.
If you manage to past these challenges with romancing the famous weapons master congrats!
He's very protective of you, whatever or not you are a skilled fighter he'll keep an sharp eye on you.
Teasing is how he shows his affection, he's not a mushy nor a romantic.
Acts of service is his main love language he doesn't out right say "I love you" alot but he shows it in his own way.
Dates, I think he would enjoy quiet moments like stargazing or being lazy in bed. Also if you are a skilled fighter, flirtatious sparring may happen.
He's a good kisser and...other things as well. (Its canon in the books. *cough*)

Why Lore needs to be Important to the DnD Franchise
Tumblr media
Okay, I have been talking a lot on how DnD does not really make Wizards of the Coast any money, what they are doing wrong, and how the lore is not accessible. Like at all.
Today let me talk a bit quicker on why WotC really, really needs to do more with the lore. Because I have the feeling that a lot of people actually do not know that little fact about the way those things work: Chances are, that WotC cannot actually license the game mechanics of DnD.
Let me explain:
What you can license or copyright is a bit different from country to country. But in general simple game mechanics cannot be licensed. You know, stuff like the attributes, abilities and stuff like that. The concept of Strength or Charisma cannot be licensed. Nor can the concept of magic per se or the concept of stuff like persuasion.
The general idea of half of most of the classes are also too generic. You cannot license the idea of fighters, barbarians, wizards or bards. Sure, certain parts of the build of the classes can be licensed, but not the general idea. Same goes for elves, orcs, halflings and so on.
While the make up of the character sheet can be licensed and specific rules can be as well - or some of the spells. The general game mechanic cannot. Which is why there are several games that are quite similar to DnD in mechanics and general concepts.
When they put up the entire bullshit with the OGL, several lawyers were swift to argue that: "Well, actually, they will have a hard time enforcing that, and might in fact lose big, if they go after someone and the someone fights back." Some lawyers have even speculated that this kind of backlash did more to persuade them from not going through with it, rather than the boycot.
Like, don't get me wrong. If they had gone through with it and someone would have fought back, it would have been a year long expensive legal battle. But there was a good chance that especially if they went after some of the people who just made mechanics additions and that kinda homebrew content (aka stuff that build on mechanics, rather than DnD Lore)... It would have totally bitten them in the ass.
And this get's me to the point: The DnD Lore meanwhile, they can license and use to make money.
Faerûn and Toril as a setting are licensable. As are the original species of course. And the characters. You cannot license the idea of an elven ranger, but you can license Drizzt as a character. You can license the Faerûnian pantheon. You can license the story of the Second Sundering. That is stuff that you can trademark and that nobody else can work with. You can go: "Yeah, this is ours."
Which is exactly why WotC needs to do more to actually work with the lore. Because that is something that nobody can take from them. That is the stuff they actually can make money off. So, yeah, by not using it, by not getting people hooked on that lore... They actually just don't capture the market they need to capture.
As I said in the blog last week: This is why instead of alienating those big Actual Plays like Critical Role, they should work together with them. This is also, why they should work with Larian to use the attachment people have formed to the BG3 characters to implement them more into the DnD Lore, to get people hooked on that lore. Because that is, where they actually can make money.
Again, I will just repeat what I said before: I honestly do not get what WotC and Hasbro are doing there. Like, as someone who has an economics degree, I cannot wrap my head around it. Because economically it is just plain stupid.

There's something I've been thinking about a lot lately everytime I see people talk about the Magic story. Particularly people who express disappointment with how the story unfolds. And I think I've figured out (one of) the main sources of that disappointment. Mostly, it comes down to those fans having misidentified the intended tone/genre/story structure of the Magic story.
The way I see a lot of people talk about the Magic story, it's clear to me that they're interpreting the story through the lens of it being a high fantasy action/adventure novel. They're comparing it to stuff like R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt novels, the Dragonlance novels, Eragon, any number of generic fantasy novels that ape the aesthetics of D&D, and even the old Magic novels. (You also get a bunch of people who seem to want Magic story to be more like Game of Thrones, but those people are just wrong because Magic has never indicated that it's trying for that level of dark and gritty fantasy.)
But here's your first problem. Magic story isn't told in novels anymore. It's told in serialized story chunks. The structural needs of these types of stories are completely different! You can not tell a novel style story with the type of word count the Magic story has now, and the act structure of these types of stories are completely different as well.
As for tone and genre tropes...the high fantasy people aren't too far off, because there's definitely some high fantasy flavor in the soup of Magic's narrative influences. But the modern Magic story also owes a lot to pulp fantasy and modern super hero comics for its tonal influences and the types of tropes they play with.
It's a classic recipe for disappointment. When you set your expectations and something fails to meet them, it's only natural to be disappointed.
Of course, some of the blame definitely rests on WotC for this. Some of the weird pacing issues the Magic story suffers from make a lot of sense when you look at the people they're contracting to write it. A lot of them seem to be primarily fantasy novelists, and there's a good chance that not all of them are necessarily familiar with the structural needs of this style of story telling. Plus, this definitely sends some mixed signals to the fanbase as to what kind of stories to expect.
I don't know if I have a conclusion to this, but I thought they were some interesting observations I had made and felt like they had the potential to start some interesting discussions. Feel free to chime in with what you think.

The Dork Legacy 1.5 part 2
Tumblr media
Our first good look at Autumn and she's stalking Einstein. Lovely. However, as you can tell, that well can really pick 'em. She's gorgeous.
Tumblr media
And she loves animals.
I really wasn't very good with getting shots of things these past few times, so I apologise. Let's jump ahead to Einstein's first kiss.
Tumblr media
"Uh...do I gotta?" ;-;
Tumblr media
His first kiss is with someone who is rather attractiveness challenged...but hell, his name is EINSTEIN. He can't complain.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah. This is a beautiful start to your dating career.
Tumblr media
Every time I leave these two alone, I swear...
Tumblr media
"Ohhh, feroovitah!"
I hear this like seventeen times a minute. >.<
Tumblr media
Whoa, hang on there, cowboy...you invited her over because you wanted to Go Steady, let's not rush things!
Tumblr media
"Hell no, just because I'm in love with you, doesn't mean I want to be your girlfriend!"
Tumblr media
"But enough of that, let's make out!"
Tumblr media
>(
You know, Autumn, they do have pills for this.
Tumblr media
"WAH SHE REJECTED ME."
"I kissed this loser?"
Tumblr media
"Be your girlfriend? Yeah, sure, that'd be nice!"
>_<!!!!!!
Tumblr media
"I sure am glad I have such a great boyfriend."
>.<!!!!!!
I love her all ready.
Tumblr media
She wubs the fishies. Sadly I never caught caps of this, but staring at the fish is pretty much the only thing Drizzt ever does. They're wonderful for each other.
Tumblr media
Zits!
Tumblr media
Demon zits!

Also I believe he was the one speaking in the "sizzle" teaser with the brief shot of the underdark "if we don't leave we're all going to die?"? If so, the drow has the Red Prince's VO!
Unfortunately, the guy in my post is a player character, not an NPC :( But a drow with Red Prince’s VO? Hoooo, sign me right up!
I really wish we could have a drow follower (...And one who isn’t a goody-two-shoes Drizzt copy, pretty please!)

Good points, sorry for the negativity earlier my bff told me yesterday she and her bf had decided where they wanted to work once they finished school in 6 months. The place is over 250 miles away :( I don't want to have to get a new bff :( I suppose I could do weekend road trips every once and a while. His name is Justin? I never would have guessed just doesn't seem like a Justin more like a Steve Rogers lol ;) What was wrong with the pizza? It's good he's spoiling you you deserve it :) Drizzt
Oh no! well 250miles would be quite the road trip every so often but the upside would be going out to explore? :) I’m sorry to hear that though, that must be tough :(Haha you’re too kind. Ehh nothing was wrong with it but it had green peppers, some weird onions and black olives on top of good ol meat and cheese. I’m not too big a fan of those being added to a pizza or a fan of those items in general but I dont throw a fit or anything, I just pick them off and put them to the side. Heh yeah...lord knows I’ve had some horrible times with horrible guys before him. He’s perfect

if i wanna be crazyyy abt drizzt like u where should i start
WELL. Disclaimer that like, these books are very "ah the 90s lol" at first, they handle some things well (very well for the time they were written in, and still do, imo!) and some things not great, the writing style might not be your thing, etc. It's basically catnip for me but it may not Fucking Possess You the way it did me because we're different people.
Also like people are very...weird about these books and weird about Drizzt, I would heavily recommend just..not seeking opinions out until you've gone through the books yourself and formed your own opinions on them. People love to hate on the main character, the author, everything about the books and a lot of the time they're genuinely just factually wrong about it, are inaccurate because they literally haven't read it in a decade, or are conflating it with the sourcebooks (which the author didn't write and had no control over).
ANYWAY, YES. Resources!
Intro slideshow by my good friend bramble to give you a better idea of what you're getting into (including content warnings!), and also gives you three different starting points
The reading order guide I used getting into it which lists all the books in order
If you're familiar with the series at all (or you don't mind spoilers for certain events), general trilogy/quartet roundup i made that also lists which DnD edition the books reference/are linked to/desperately trying to follow
If you live in the US you can get them at most libraries I believe. They are also all available as ebooks, and of course less legal means exist. I usually buy them as ebooks because the shipping cost to get physical copies to Australia is awful haha.

Ruka, I just wanna express my condolences for the Drizzt fandom being such a pain on here. Made me realize that I got lucky just finding the books randomly in a store and picking em up because they looked cool. Absolutely 0 background info or interaction with the fandom, just purely immersing myself in the series for weeks and sharing some highlights with friends. Hope the haters leave you alone and you can just keep enjoying the series for what it is.
Honestly that was close to my experience once I finally got to reading them and not just absorbing What People Knew About Them, I tore through all the books without looking them up at all or stepping into the fandom even a little bit haha, which means I got to get through them all without watching people dump on them near-constantly like Drizzt is the worst series ever made.
It's part of why I love them so much, because when I finally got to sit down and read the damn things my opinion completely reversed, that's how hard they won me over. The books are full of love for their characters, their setting, and are respectful of the reader's time, and I do love them for that.
Which, uh, was a double nasty surprise when I went to look for cute fanart and found a tag filled with weird circlejerking about how much everybody hates Drizzt and the author (what is with the weird fucking ad hominem btw, like you can't just say you don't like the writing style, the author is also responsible for everything wrong with drow and dnd).
Like I hadn't already absorbed a shit ton of jokes by osmosis about how Drizzt is a mopey bitch who's so sad and tragic and brooding and also found out that was...a total fucking lie actually, so it wasn't a great atmosphere to run into and did not endear me to a lot of the community here :/ It's improved massively of course, but the fact that intensely negative people have been running the show for as long as this site has existed is fucking dumb actually.
ALSO PEOPLE KEPT LEAVING SHITTY COMMENTS ON MY CUTE FANART POSTS IN THE TAGS WHICH WAS REALLY ANNOYING ACTUALLY I DIDNT LIKE THAT VERY MUCH. I ENJOY THAT PEOPLE ENJOYED MY EARLY FANART BUT I DID NOT ENJOY PEOPLE LEAVING DISPARAGING COMMENTS ABOUT HOW BOOKS I HADNT READ SUCKED.
But honestly it's fine. I can handle a few weird comments even if they annoy the hell out of me (and are often demonstratably completely wrong, like cmon if you're going to be an asshole at least be correct about the stuff you like), I don't like it when people leave weird comments on the stuff of people who are just starting or clearly enjoying the books because it's so out of pocket but all I can do is write or draw to counteract that effect and clean up the tag a little.
I feel worse for the people who have loved this series from childhood honestly. There's so much negativity surrounding Drizzt and I can't imagine how exhausting that must be to never have a place to talk about a series that means a lot to you because the general accepted opinion is that you hate it, the series sucks, and everyone is in some sort of bizarre love-hate orbit because The Author Loves Me Not and His Characters Are Wasted On Him, He's A Hack.
So yeah, hope you continue to enjoy yourself with it too anon :)b
