this is a bit of a long post so i apologize

but last night, i had an extended talk with my wife about how my queer masculine experience involved a lot of competition, one-upping, and emotional "subjugation" from other people who shared my gender expression, and how I have a lot of unaddressed trauma about being around other butches or masc-of-center people

It wasn't until I was a proper adult, mid-twenties, when I met my first well-adjusted butch. Even with other people attempting to compare or push us against each other, she didn't take the bait and we both maintained a supportive and encouraging acquaintanceship. And even though we never became Friends, her existence-- her quiet strength and confidence in herself-- gave me such a huge amount of queer euphoria that it helped me repair the relationships I had with other queer mascs around me. I learned to admire them for qualities I didn't have, I learned that envy is honestly really horrible and came from inside me more than anything else. I learned that yes, there are going to be shitty queers out there but there are also a lot of people like me who are sincerely just scared and isolating and lashing out

I spent so long being afraid of the competition and alienation that i ignored the sense of brotherhood and kinship that can come from supportive relationships with other mascs and butches. When I find it, it's euphoria
