You know, by traditional definitions, a few years ago i was probably...not an "anti," but "anti adjacent," shall we say.
I won't lie, I'm still discomforted by some ships out there. I don't like st/rker. At all. I used to ship th/rki as a teen, but then fell out of it hard in later years and now can only think of them platonically. I don't really like r/ylo or w/ncest (which are also targets of antis).
But I certainly never harassed or hated anyone who did ship those things. If I was following someone who shipped them, but didn't post about it too regularly, I didn't care. If I was following someone who shipped them but they did post regularly, I simply unfollowed and moved on.
But current antis who are trying to establish some sort of Purity Cult in fandom are just...they're something else, man. And honestly, their extreme, puritanical, and pretty ignorant movement has only pushed me further away from being "anti adjacent." Now I'm like, th/rki shippers? You do you, boo. W/ncest? Lovely. R/ylo? Not my thing, but I will fight anyone who tries to stop you. St/rker? ....definitely still discomforted, but it's fine, IT'S FICTION, I can choose not to read it. Remember that old ff.net adage - don't like, don't read.
And now, ships that were considered fairly "safe" in fandom are under fire. Hannigram?well, it's ~abusive~. Obikin? often accused of p/dophilia. Bucky/Tony? Bucky killed Tony's parents...while he was brainwashed...so...? (*checks notes* is that really the reason they hate it? jfc)
But don't worry. This is just a rehash of Ye Old Porn on the Internet conflict, and its cousin, Think Of the Children. Like all things, this too shall pass.
