i think a lot of people who are aware of Shane sort of just think of him as the skeptic guy on bfu/ghost files (not saying that’s u obv just a lot of ppl bc I guess I need this to be a pitch meeting) and I think that is a shame because HOLY SHIT HES SO TALENTED AND COOL AND WEIRD AND THE SHIT HE MAKES IS SO FUCKIKNG INSANELY GOOD

Ok so going back in time for a second to b*zzfeed. Who btw did not deserve this guy. Afaik he had two major like, creative projects on there. Ruining History and The Hot Daga. Both were very good. ruining history was a fun history show he did with Sara and Ryan and there are rotating guests every episode. Shane is very interested in history, very good at teaching history, and i think in an alternate universe hes a beloved high school history teacher. Ruining History is the father of puppet history. B*zzfeed canned it and i miss it every day. and then there’s the other father of Puppet History, Hot Daga. Hot Daga is insane. I love Hot Daga, its not for everyone, but I think its so good. The lore goes crazy, he produced and made original songs for it, he animated the whole final half season by himself which is fuckinf insane. He made a ballad for it and actually i need everyone reading this to Listen to “believe me maizey” and then directly after listen to the Meteor Ballad from Puppet History. OH LOOK A SEGWAY

Puppet history is so fuckinf good. Its So Good. And especially in later seasons since hes doing so much you really start to see his improvement as an artist and its just. Its incredible. Some of the somgs are genuinely fucking masterpieces, like some of my favs are The Flower Boat Song, Asmodeus, The Horse and God song, the Emu song, Big Pile Of Diamonds, Infinitiger, The Window Song, Gay Oars Duet, Hologram Professor Song, and the Meteor’s Ballad. And more. Uhh OH the Olympic Torch is really good too. His lyrics are so smart and fun and his vocals are so impressive and he has such good range, he duetted Himself for the Oar song and managed to make the two voices identifiable as separate characters without being over the top. The lyrics range from poetic anf beautiful to weird and funny often within the Same song! Its just so good and he starts so good and gradually over the years he’s done the show you can see him getting more comfortable and better at music which is crazy causw again HE STARTED OFF GOOD! HE WAS INSANE IN HOT DAGA AND HE IS SOMEHOW EVEN BETTER IN PUPPET HISTORY LIKE! and and and ok here’s where I get crazy and a little parasocial (lol not really i am misusing that word for the bit LOL)

Something about all his work is that you can kind of see how his art depicts the world. In Hot Daga you get the line “what else can you do in the face of such monumental loss, but breath a weary sigh as the world is a little quieter now.” And in Puppet history you get uh actually you get like 20 things from the meteor song but one of my favorite parts is (read blue as the professor, orange as the meteor, pink as both) “some shit’s just etched into the stars, calamities you cant outrun/and when sweet earth we finally meet/the sky will burn and boil the sea/as mountains rend/its you and me.” i think both these lyrics and these somgs demonstrate a maturity about the world that you dont really see in a lot of people, his general kindness towards anything and everything and his ability to change perspectives on things without being forceful. (On a personal note I listened to The Meteor song after someone I knew passed, and as dumb as it maybe sounds the idea that like,, death is not cruel, you can’t always run and sometimes the best thing you can do is be there with the people you love as the world ends.) and also I think that you really can tell that he views the people he’s telling you about as People and not just like, figures. Ykwim. He shows such genuine respect and care for everyone in these stories and I’ve already like briefly in these stories but like, you KNOW if a guy can make me cry for the Meteor that killed the dinosaurs then he’s something special. i also think the way he portrays death in his work is very comforting as a whole. and another thing speakinf of rhat is that he has so much respect for other cultures in a level I think that goes beyond just bare minimum not being a piece of shit. Like especially when he’s teaching history, an example that always sticks out to me is how much effort he put into making sure people remembered and thought about Hatshepsut by having a whole episode on her history then also making an EXTREMELY (probably intentionally so though i cant be sure bc I can’t reas minds) catchy song that Told you to think of Hatshepsut and explained Why uou should think of Hatshepsut and it’s been stuck in my head ever since I first heard it years ago. Also I’m consistently impressed by his good pronunciation of things, I remember in the Tunguska event episode of mystery files there were so many ppl from tbe area he was talking about shocked by how good his pronunciation was. And ive seen that so many times w him like, idk i just think thats very cool. He’s a genuinely really mature and respectful guy I think. Wise too. So much of his work has educated me, changed my worldview for the better, inspired me. Like He’s so talented ik i keep saying that but HE IS!

Like ok so. He can write both songs and stories beautifully. he’s wise as fuck and could probably be a philosopher. He can make puppets (and just tbc later season puppet history the puppets are not him, but in the early seasons afaik they were all him, so he is definitely skilled at that.), he can sing, he can voice act, his graphics and editing are off the charts, he’s educated and smart, hes funny. He’s so fuckinf cool.

also again getting parasocial here but I just really like how much of a zest for life the guy seems to have. And Honestly im impressed that he worked in retail, had actual trash thrown in his face by an angry customer (true story) and still came out it like “man the world sure is wonderful!”. What a guy. And He’s so fucking weird and interesting and I could seriously just listen to him rant about Literally anything Forever. Anything. It doesnt matter I think he could talk about anything in a way that would make me invested in it and i’d come out of it more educated than before with a fresh new perspective on life.

ok so far it's like. fine? which is lowkey sad coz i wish it was smtg i really liked but it hasn't gripped me yet which is a shame but yknow. early days. i'm giving it time since it's only 15 episodes so far

my main issue is like. i really wish it wasn't so obviously influenced by bbc but it just so clearly is which is a shaaame like it's better than bbc in every aspect but yknow. not a high bar to clear. like it kinda feels like they liked a lot of things abt bbc and set out to fix the bad parts (h&w friendship being nonexistent, the mysteries being shit) but just kept the rest? in some places keeping things that were invented by bbc which is. baffling tbh

i'm not really picky when it comes to h&w personalities like i think it's fine to just do whatever you want w them, i think it's really fun when an adaptation gives them different personalities than what you're used to but, and this is where it feels far too bbc-ish for comfort, i just don't like it when sherlock is a cunt for no reason? like. he's not a mean person he's only mean in bbc coz moffat thought house md was cool and ripped it off. can we stop making him mean pleeeease 😭 he's just some guy..................

h&w relationship wise it's like... ok so i tend to go into adaptations with a fully clean slate so like i never let my general attachment to them influence how i view them in specific adaptations, the work itself needs to sell me on both the characters and the relationship and like... here neither of those really happened yet which makes me sad coz i think by now it should've but i'm giving it time. at least they're friends and i like that watson is useful for cases/knows things holmes doesn't sometimes coz thats like. such an essential element to sh stories for me and a loooottt of adaptations tend to just completely forget it so that's a win but idk if anything they're too tame? like i dont expect a romance but they can't just be casual friends they need to be bat shit crazy about each other. to me. but like maybe that'll develop over the rest of the podcast we'll see

kinda related to that point but case-wise i think holmes is a bit too ahead of everyone else sometimes which isn't inherently a problem but it does once again smell of bbc which like. noone should ever emulate moffat writing don't do that 🙏 god bles. but i've been able to solve every case along with/before the mcs which is like. thee point of mystery stories for me so yea i really like the stories themselves so far, especially the way they manage to make them solvable even without visuals or narration. OH and i almost forgot but i rly like the soundtrack, i love it when sh soundtracks have a heavy emphasis on violins coz. yknow

howeverr i am on my hands and knees begging them not to give watson a girlfriend tho like please oh myfffucking god . obvs watsonlock doesn't usually factor into my enjoyment of adaptations given that like. y'know. out of the hundreds out there theres only two where either of them is even gay so it's not something i expect nor require but like. to me it is essential that these two ppl are insane abt each other and don't really have anyone else, definitely noone important. like even the rdj movies got this despite ritchie's obsession w the 2 men 1 woman dynamic so idk why i'm constantly having to wage a war against random unnecessary romances for either watson or, god forbid, holmes. when the only interesting relationship either of these men have is with each other. that one granada holmes quote about them choosing not to include mary coz holmes and watson dont need anyone else etc etc. like i seriously dislike it when they introduce anyone else like cmonnnnnn thog dont care

anyway tldr. i guess if asked to pick a short description i'd say. promising? i hope it's gonna be good in the long run. the way they do mysteries is already something i like so. i hope they keep that up and i hope the h&w relationship evolves into something i enjoy coz so far i'm like. i can see the bones of smtg i'll potentially like but it's not there yet. but also like. this is an indie production i'm listening to for free so ion wanna rip into it these are mainly just what i liked/disliked based on the preferences i developed with this one quick trick (grow up completely insane abt sherlock holmes -> consume every adaptation that you can get your paws on -> no profit)

so um WTFOK SO KUNG FU PANDA i freaking love kung fu panda HE IS MY FREAKING LIFE if he never existed my sister wouldnt be a furry (will not elaborate she is blocked here FOR A REASON sorry nox) I HAD HIGH HOPES !!! (FIRST MISTAKE.) the music, was breathtaking, felt like i was watching kung fu panda for the first time again (not really but u get wat im saying) the animation was FLUID! there were some stiff parts, but I hardly noticed them, theres only one part where some movement didnt make sense?? like for example po was flung to the left but was then was stopped mid air, and awkwardly moved right to the ground?? i was the only one that noticed it i think thats a me thing FUCK HALF OF MY RAMBLE GOT DELETED ANYWAYS. OK SCREW WHAT EVER I WAS GONNA SAY UMMM THE ART. THE COLORING. THE CONTRASTING COLORS. THE TRADITIONAL CHINESE ART (duh) I WAS JUST AMAZED BY IT ALL IM A FREAKING ART NERD loved it so much AND THE CHARACTER DESIGN for the villain BEAUTIFUL. other character okayish.... picked most obvious animal and made her wear clothes...! im a picky person. OK WHATEVER BUT WHEN THE MOVIE FINISHED, it felt so short?? maybe cause IT WAS SO FAST PACD??? WHY DID THEY DO THAT. the beginnning started out good ! there was that initial action, somewhat revealing the villain their motives, and then showing where po is and what his dilemma is !!! Hawks line to Skippy in the hospital about not being sure of anything anymore I think was a pretty good indication about how this will end. That coupled with the confrontation Lucy will have with her daughter in the next episode, and telling her to ask her father, he's clearly going to have to tell his daughter something. He can't go back to the status quo. His old life is not an option anymore. I really kind of love how they have set all this in motion. He's exhausted by his life. It's been strange to me to see all the people who say he looks older than 64 (ignoring the fact that Matt is one of the most beautiful people ever) it surprises me that lots of people seem to have missed that's why he looks older. He lives an entire life in contrast to his true self. He's exhausted by the facade. The wear and tear on his face and in his features is the entire point. He chose a life that suffocated his true self. And it was one thing when he knew Tim was still out there somewhere and there was always the maybe of it all. That disappears with Tim's death. The only part of him that he kept authentic was his love for Tim. What does his life look like in a world with no Tim?

I'm not going to get into the does he or doesn't he love Lucy thing. I believe he loves her in a very particular way, but I would argue his feelings for her always had more to do with his love and admiration of her father, and a sense of obligation to him, than they ever did with her. I do believe he loves his children. But he is a man that is now realizing and coming to terms with the fact that he missed his entire life. What could have been, which he sees very clearly in Marcus and Frankie, if he had been brave enough to fight for it. It's why I genuinely am stunned by the reaction of some people to his character. He is the living embodiment of self hate and that's heartbreaking. The realization that the life he longed for could have been his if he had just tried. The show has done an amazing job of setting up the last episode. Your other anon is correct. They deserve that conversation. Both of them.

Thats why i dont get people who hate Hawk either!! This man has suffered in silence literally all of his life, has had to hide who he was from literally everyone he cared for. His father hated him for being who he was, his adoptive father figure (senator smith obvs) also hated the concept of what Hawk was (but he didnt know Hawk was it). Like that scene where s. Smith is talking horribly about Leonard and the fact hes gay and Hawk just has to listen and cant say anything bc itd mean his downfall too?? Like that man was everything for Hawk and to have him speak so bad of, without knowing, what he really was mustve been so so so painful.

It would be wonderful for both to just... let themselves love and be loved freely.

sorry and im gonna tag this obv but incase you dont have it filtered spoilers for shadows ep that just aired but oh my god. oh my god. sorry. oh my god. i knew it was coming. obviously, logically, i knew it was coming. i knew it was coming when i watched s2 as it was airing on the couch with my entire family and clocked nandor and guillermo i knew as i spent every thursday night for nine weeks last fall screaming on here and on discord i knew when the leaks about a certain upcoming character came out and then were confirmed by hints earlier this season like i knew. obviously i knew im not stupid. but it's so, so fucking different to know and to hear. it. to HEAR GUILLERMO SAY THE WORDS this was such a small part of a bigger (and goddamn excellent + hilarious episode) so much of my brain is telling me to calm down and stop making such a big deal out of this but like. im not going to. how many goddamn times i've "known" before and gotten fucked around on in so many ways by writers and studios and whatever like. when he said it i screamed out loud and i'm not going to calm down about that. guillermo said the words i'm gay on screen and that's a big fucking deal, and i don't think i need to explain that to you if you're following this page. and it's not about nandermo (i mean. like it is a teensy bit just because their arcs and such are so wrapped up in eachother and whatnot but also it isn't at all) it's about guillermo saying. the. words. and best of all is i know how many of the people that made that happen know how much it meant, i know harvey knew how much it meant. rant over. good ep. looking forward to next week & beyond.

(Sitting like a wise old man on a log) okay so call me controversial for this but I HATE DevilDice so much like its so unreal. At first I was just like "ok" when Cuphead was more niche, like it was dumb since I dont think you NEED to ship anything in Cuphead to Like it and engage with it but like whatever right?? But then as it started gaining more and more traction with talk of the DLC and S1 of The Cuphead Show! DevilDice was EVERYWHERE and I personally didn't really understand why people so desperately wanted DevilDice to be real, especially when the Devil and King Dice didn't really have much in common or anything that really told me "oh yeah they NEED to be together", people were just kinda making shit up as they went and like idc if people do that for their ships but because it was EVERYWHERE in the fandom tag, character tags, etc, there was NO way to really avoid it!! And the fact that King Dice's character was reduced to JUST "The Devil's Henchman" and not the respected and even downright intimidating figure the Game made King Dice, it was super insulting...especially when he was HEAVILY based on a Real person (Cab Calloway)!! And how he's kinda reduced to just a joke character that nobody really takes seriously anymore is super disheartening and I'm like "#NOTMYDICE"!!!! I JUST dont think people should have to rely on a ship to care about a source, but thats exactly what like 90% of the Cuphead fanbase does (they couldn't go 1 day without shipping King Dice with Chef Saltbaker!!!) And its super annoying imo...these characters can be completely appreciated without all the nonsensical and bizarre ships and AUs like...yandere King Dice???? Like what does that even mean KING DICE WOULDNT FUCKING DO THAT!!!!!!!

Also just as a little add on it really sucks that so much of the The Cuphead Show!/Cuphead Fans went totally Gaga over The Devils and King Dice's VAs/Twitter Accounts "flirting" with each other and didn't even realize that Netflix (a multimillion corporate entity) was totally baiting their audience because they KNOW that'll capture their audience's attention without explicitly doing anything that they're even hinting at. okay its 4am here and i guess what better time to express how chronically online i am through homestuck gender, sexuality and mental stuff headcanons of mine *smile*

okay im gonna start off with the beta kids and trolls of course, probably will not go into the alpha trolls as i do not really know a lot or care a lot about them

ME TOO i think everything, these are just my like, personal thoughts about the characters, i genuinely like and use all headcanons though

John: um i am a john/june coexistence believer so i will be going over both. I think john is defo straight okay like idk dont ask i wont be explaining like he just feels cishet to me dont get me wrong I love LOVE johndave but you cant look at john fucking egbert and tell me he is gay im sorry, and june is defo a transbian, thats all shes just a girly who likes girls. as for mental stuff both of them, I see personally having autism DEFINITELY and slight adhd

Dave: oh my god BI DAVE IS REAL. dave is one million percent bi no gender lean,but was ashamed of it for a while because he was scared to be gay cause he grew up thinking gay was something wrong, but eventually came to terms with it. i can see dave as cis or transmasc really they both fit very well to me. dave has to me, obv depression, but i think like a panic disorder because of his brother, some stuff brings him back, and while i feel the bro dave stuff wasnt as severe as the fandom makes it out to be, it still was pretty fucked up, and dave is still just as fucked up over it, a lot of the time its more self worth stuff wondering why his brother was such a dick to him blahblahbalh whatever you get what im saying, i also feel as if like, not a mental disorder thing but he tries to get attention from everyone he can because of the attention his childhood lacked and he is really scared and insecure anyways take all this as you will

Rose: ok rose augh bi rose is real,,, BUT she is SO SO SO female leaning, like shes like i like girls butttttttt there are a few men i will ... look at and want for. I think shes nonbinary demigirl, she/they but doesnt mind whichever set of pronouns you use. i think she has like pretty bad depression and struggles a lot with derealization and things in that area. i can also see her definitely having some form of autism

Jade: okay jade i see as cis and bi with no lean, i have no further explanation, while i see her as having bpd it presents itself way differently than usually associated with the stereotype for someone with bpd. this coming from being alone her whole life and feeling abandoned by everyone around her, because she might feel like shes the only one who puts effort into caring and is still left alone in the end maybe im projecting lalal youll never know !  i see her also having severe severe depression but tries to suppress it to make sure no one worries, she also has really bad add and some slight form of autism.

OK now onto beta trolls (warning a lot of these r gonna be bi headcanons oppsy)

Aradia: okay.... im not sure how to go about this one since i am aradia lol but uhh ill just go ahead and describe how i see myself i suppose? so I am cis girl she/her, bi with a pretty heavy female lean, ok if anyone wants I will go further in depth with this one but i have bpd and hpd which are both very similar but have some distinct differences xD anyways I also have some form of autism and have add, i struggle really really badly with depression along with derealization and depersonalization, this is all, umm as a little added thing I subscribe to catholicism but am kind of shitty at practicing it, but i still do hold some of their beliefs to myself

Tavros: transmasc absolutely cant fight me on this one, um also bi with a male lean, I think he struggles with an anxiety/panic disorder, and has autism + depression.. he also has dependent personality disorder REAL bad.. umm dont have a lot to say on this one LMAO 

Sollux: sigh everyones gonna kill me sollux can be cis to me......... if I want, but I also like trans headcanons of him? so idrk how i see him lel, hes definitely bi with a female lean. um he has bipolar.. canon so thats one, but I can also see him having aspd noo ren dont make him evil having aspd doesnt make you evil these are my headcanons so they will make sense to me differently than they will to you haha and he has depression

Karkat: transmasc karkat real ooouhhh scary ghost noise also bi with male lean, he so obviously has a panic disorder and ptsd, I also think he struggles with depression real, and like lol.. anger issues ok thats all i have to sat for him too ah oopsie a lot of these are gonna be depression but thats a given cause.. really who isnt depressed anymore?

Nepeta: BRAH okay listen nepeta isnt like.. not cis but she isnt not nonbinary!!!?!!?!?! like to describe it shes like nonbinary with she/her prns like shes just this little girl that breaks gender norms all day if u feel me? shes bi with a slight female lean but no real preference i think she defo has autism and adhd, but also struggles really bad with depression from how lonely she is

Vriska: transfemme bi with no lean, ok ahh this is not really a lot to unpack but it is? idk vriska though her personality seems like the posterboy for fucking bpd and people might say that gives people with bpd a bad reputation to be associated with her, as someone with medically diagnosed bpd i just dont agree, if the shoe fits... its probably for a reason, anyways vriska has the absolute most convincing and fitting title of bpd of any character within homestuck, but she also fits within depression in my opinion, but thats really a result of her bpd and stuff with her lusus driving people away anyways i can also see her having npd

Equius: brah gonna be honest equius straight but bicurious and transmasc, wants to be strong because of his rage stuff but also because hes insecure about not being cis and wants to be as “manly” as possible, nepeta always tries to convince him he doesnt have to be strong to be a man but hes so insecure it doesnt matter what she says. I think he personally struggles HORRIBLY with gender dysphoria and what trans person doesnt? but him especially, it makes him badly depressed and he wont admit it, I also think he is autistic

Gamzee: brah another cis male bi sigh he has a female lean but only a little. I think he struggles with drug induced psychosis, he started abusing substances when he was younger because he was depressed but it ended up frying his brain and making his body and mind dependent on the drugs and giving him awful psychosis issues

Eridan: cis male bi with no lean whatsoever he just wants someone to fucking love him, i think he struggles with bpd, hpd and npd along with depression ok thats all

ivan and kirin’s pre island storyline is interesting but (similar qualms as in season 1) i dont love the optics of the gay black kid being framed as the ‘bullying’ force in this situation etc etc idk just the way it’s done feels weird to me. i know they have luc as the contrast guy but i just think they could have set things up with some more grace... i wonder what the writer’s room looked like.

the music in the scene where pat reaches out and grabs pran's hand cresendos so beautifully i'm obsessed with it. everything from the colors and tension, to the lighting and shot set-up, the music and emotions it was all so perfect so perfect. cinematic masterpiece i think.

my favorite part thou is the romanticism of that hand grabbing action. i've grown up watching that in hindi movies and its smth that's so poetic and dramatic it wouldn't fit the structure of most episodic length media but i've always wanted to see gay ppl do that. gay movies r mostly about gay struggles and not just romances and i'm v grateful bad buddy is just that. it never stops amazing me when i watch some gay show and the central conflict isn't about them being gay but smth external. it fully opens up the scope to just romance and grand and small gestures like this hand grabbing and silly playful things like the bet while still being so so fucking angsty w/o making u lament the existence of homophobia.

He likes the way the mud kicks up, the humidity in the air, though like every other owner and trainer and jockey, hates the soft track. He’s racing Honey, a decent mudder, and he’s glad for the solid assignment. [I was like. okay I can't name a horse "Honey Badger" so this was my best guess. Honey is a horse that Daniel really likes to ride and he has a good relationship with the owner so he often does race her. Muddy tracks, like wet tracks in F1, are more dangerous and also slower, and can cause injuries (for the horse or rider). She's a good horse but not like in contention for the best in the country or something. Anyway.]

Max is riding Red Dame. She’s a sweetheart of a horse, the racing companion of Max’s true love, Red Bull. They’re gated a few down from Daniel and he leans into Honey. The bell sounds and then the race is off. [Okay so if you read this far I will tell you that this is pretty explicitly based off the book "Seabiscuit" by Laura Hillenbrand and Red Dame is analogous to a horse named Fair Knightess, who was one of the only horses who Seabiscuit could train with (most other horses would get mad and refuse to race). So these are the two horses (Red Bull = Seabiscuit himself) that Max is most familiar with. Red Dame is fast, but she doesn't have that same temper or touch of brilliance. Max is basically Red Pollard, and Daniel is George Woolf. Sorry to the actual brilliant men and horses for borrowing them for a fic plot.]

As the field leans around the far turn at the San Carlos racetrack, Daniel once again finds himself just to the back of Max. Max is bent over the back of Red Dame, racing along the rail. Daniel is caught in the veritable whirlwind of horses. Kimi is racing along the rail, Fernando on the outside. Sergio is practically on Daniel’s tale. Just inches ahead of Max, a length ahead of Honey, is Esteban on Alpine, a horse that Daniel only knows for side-swiping a jockey off his horse at the start of the Kentucky Derby a few years back. [This is me fictionalizing a real race. Sorry to Esteban and Alpine lol I just needed a horse to screw up. I was just throwing out drivers and horse names here.]

Alpine leads the pack of horses around the turn but halfway through takes an awkward, sagging step, losing his momentum. The delicate formation of racers collapsed, horses beginning to rack up behind him with nowhere to go. [I did watch some horse races to try and describe this.] With no time to stop herself, Red Dame charges straight into the bottleneck. Daniel sees Max crash into Alpine’s dark hindquarters, no time to even react. The good Dame reached forward just as Alpine kicked out with his heels.

Red Dame’s forelegs were kicked out from under her. She pitched into a somersault at nearly forty miles per hour. Max goes down with her, his helpless form following the line of her fall, over her back and neck and vanishing under her crashing body. She came down onto him with great force, skidding to a stop. Another jockey, Nico, his horse Hulk heaving down on the track, found himself unable to avoid the fallen Red Dame. His horse gathered himself to make a desperate leap over her, rearing up on his hind legs and launching himself into the air. At the same, unfortunate time, Red Dame tries to push herself back up on her forelegs, lifting her directly into Hulk’s path. Red Dame was forced back down onto the track, flipping her upside down. Max couldn’t get out of the way, the full weight of his horse coming down upon him. Hulk bent in the air like a thrashing fish, spinning into the ground, Nico riding him down. Hulk rises with only bruises as injured. Red Dame lay where she fell. [This is more or less exactly how Red Pollard, Seabiscuit's jockey, crashed in 1938, causing Seabiscuit's owner to find a new jockey, George Woolf who was a good friend of Pollard's, an an excellent rider in his own right. Sorry to Nico, but again, needed a worse horse and rider to make a bad decision. Also GOD I was having trouble with tenses here because Daniel is there, sort of, but he also keeps riding! So much of this like recreation is from afterwards. Idk I had trouble.]

Nico limped over to where Max lay. The left side of his chest lay crushed. [Poor Max....he literally just got crushed by a horse idk what else to say]

Christian saw Max go down, staring in horror as Red Dame rolled over him. [Christian is the owner of the horse and therefore the one who employs Max, and he knows them both well.] He stared at Max’s crumpled form, the great overturned animal. He ran to Max’s side, the jockey barely conscious, his mouth wide open. Finding Jos also nearby, they carry Max desperately to the track infirmary until an ambulance arrives. [Jos was a loose thread throughout this...he's like a failed jockey I guess, Max is living out his dreams or whatever. They're enough of a pair that he's at the race. Originally, he was the trainer but I didn't like how the relationship worked out because both the trainer (in this, Adrian) and Max have to have an excellent relationship with the horse and trust in each other, which just would not have worked with Jos.] They climb in with Max. Daniel, holding his third-place laurels, watches them go, heart stopped in his chest. [Third place, like I said, Honey is good but not great. Daniel also goes to ride Red Bull which means he has to be good enough in terms of performances and to an extent, finances, to be able to make that decision and not lose his relationship with the owner of Honey.]

He watches as Adrian, the trainer, sinks down in the dirt beside Red Dame, the horse not able to rise. He managed to take her back to the barn, her back horribly wrenched. If her back was broken, it was over. [Parallel the horse's injury to Max's injury lol]

Back at the hospital, Max’s chest had practically caved in. He had broken ribs and a shattered collarbone, a broken shoulder, internal injuries, and a concussion. Several days passed and he stabilized. [Why did I end this paragraph like this? The timeline doesn't quite make sense. Anyway, I wanted to show how bad it was but Max and Daniel also aren't in a position where it would be like. normal. for Daniel to go visit Max in the hospital...they're friends but probably not publicly in a way that would allow Daniel to do that, regardless of the energy between them. I do think Jos especially does not like Daniel's friendship with Max and would not like him to visit, and is probably quite angry with Max (wrongly so, there's nothing he could have done) about the accident.]

Daniel heard from a stableboy who heard from someone who heard from Adrian that Max wouldn’t ride again for at least a year. [Daniel is not close enough to the Red Bull team to be get any updates himself. He's just some guy to them.] His voice catches in his throat. So many of the jockey’s are just kids and so is Max, but he’s also Daniel’s friend. Injuries are commonplace in their profession. Tomorrow, Daniel knows it could be him. It doesn’t make it any easier. [Similar to F1 but also on a much worse scale because this is the 1930, horse racing was SO dangerous! So Daniel has clearly seen this happen before, and seen young riders (jockeys often lied about their age and began as young as 12) lose their entire career and livelihood in this. He definitely cares for Max and is intrigued by him, and especially by his horse (and frustrated because he can't beat them!!), so this is both the possible loss of a friend and a great possible loss for the sport. Obviously I did fudge their ages in this, because Max, if he's as good as he is in this, would have made it to the "top level" at a relatively younger age, so there's some backstory there I didn't explore. Daniel, in this, loves riding but I think unlike many of the other people in the industry, his family survived the Great Depression with land and he has their support to fall back on and likely will take over the ranch after he retires, so he doesn't have quite the same desperate relationship with riding, and therefore isn't always in the "in group". Anyway that was a tangent. ]
