i found you years ago through your fire emblem art, so that's always the first thing that comes to mind when i see your url! specifically i think of your izana and kana comics hehe. i think it's been something like... four years or so since i first saw them, and i still try to keep them in mind when drawing characters interacting. the way you draw movement and physical contact is so light and airy feeling, and i love it! also i currently have kaeya in my teapot in genshin and when i see him my brain immediately goes "kaeya-bun" bc of those izana comics... they're very dear to me lol (and i've loved seeing you get into other things as well! lost my mind in a good way seeing ur obey me and genshin art haha)

i will die on the "karl weissman bisexuality" hill. HE TOLD ME IN A DREAM!!!! it's just a little messier for him because he really likes women and will not figure it out ever. charlotte hillinghead TO ME also has the exact opposite problem where she is very much in love with her husband and doesn't have any incentive (or freedom considering the time period) to explore her sexuality. the way she accepted hillinghead's feelings for henry, and was less rejecting and more devastated over thinking he didn't love her or polly, just read queer to me somehow. an acceptance because she's like that too, yk? (maybe a bit of a reach but i don't get to choose who my mind designates as being bi)

i like to think that charlotte-karl experience a spider-verse mindmeld "YOU'RE LIKE ME" moment over being bisexual but they're not quite sure why they're feeling that way because they have no idea they're bi. if you are me you will understand perfectly

and i am a henry/alfred/charlotte poly truther as well (please see above discord ranting from my dms with a friend lol)

on more notes of just giving whichever character i want the bisexuality card, hasan is bi to me too. i think hillinghead and her bond a little over that shared religious guilt, of having their respective institutions be homophobic, and the feeling for so much of their life that they're different, so there must be something wrong. it helps her empathise with him and they quickly become closer because of it :) possibly also introducing him to queer lit, and maybe some non fiction lgbt history books

and one last final doodle because i think alfred as the only detective with an active love life where he's pursuing someone would make the others pretend like they can be adults but they want to know SO BAD and they also give advice once in a while because they're rooting for alfred :) they're all pretty good at hiding how badly they're invested in this (think iris 'casually' asking hillinghead how it's going and the other two perk up in the background) like i refuse to believe any of them are totally immune to the equivalent of office-gossip

Motivation: things to like about these subjects

Math:

Isn’t math kinda magical in a way? See, the thing about math is that it’s the same in every country! Every equation, no matter how hard or complex or long, can easily be broken down into much easier ones, (like simple adding, multiplying, dividing, or subtracting) Once you know what’s going on, it’s not really that hard. (+ take cute notes!!)

Science:

Ookay, honestly? Science is genuinely so interesting! How your body works, how plants create their own food, how the whole solar system was made/ operates, whether there’s other life out there, chemical reactions & experiments? If you actually tried to be fascinated by it, you’ll be surprised how incredible it all is! (+ take cute notes!!)

English:

Me personally, I loveee English. You can too by trying to romanticise it!

If you’re doing poetry, like what’s there not to like? Poetry is such a beautiful language, it’s a way of expression through gentleness.

Writing short stories? This is my favourite. You can write it about anything, the possibilities are endless! Doesn’t it excite you?

History

Don’t try to remember facts and dates of events, try to learn the story behind it. You’ll find that it actually becomes so much more interesting if you remember the story, the emotions, the plots of the event.

Romanticising: hot chocolate or some hot coffee, studying at home, hair in a messy bun, playing some classical music in the background.

(+ also in class when you’re taking notes, you can doodle pictures of the people (stick figures for me lol), how they’d feel like or events on the side to add a bit of fun to it)

And honestly, history is such ‘romance subject’ (like arts, music, literature, languages)

Geography

Become good at it. If you don’t already have an interest in geography, then what helped me was becoming good at it. Paying attention during lessons, taking cute notes, etc. becoming good at it made it so much easier and less scary

Languages

This is also what I’d call a “Romance language”. Also dont you want to learn new languages? So many people decide to learn languages later in their lives because they find out it helps you in one way or another, but in school they’re already teaching it to you in the BEST WAY! Also knowing and being able to speak more than 1 languages fluently makes you SO powerful bc then you can speak in more countries. And also imagine how impressed people would be?!

Music

Have fun with it! It mostly depends on what you are doing in your music lessons, but what you would normally be doing is learning/ practicing an instrument. Don’t be immature and play it at random times when the teacher is talking, but just have fun with it! Again, like i said earlier, so many people start to learn music so much later in their lives and here it is being handed to you on a silver platter. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!

Art / art&design

Personally, I LOVE art!! It’s another “romance subject”. It’s a beautiful form of expression. Even though you may not be doing what you want to be doing, still have fun with it!! Be creative! And importantly: loosen up! Art, like beauty, is very very subjective. One person’s scribble can be another’s MASTERPIECE! So stop bring so worried with it being “correct”. Just have appreciation.

P.E (physical education/ sport)

I just don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t like PE. Like you don’t even have to learn anything, you just run around playing fun games. And as a bonus u get fit!

Steve hasn't done a lot of studying in his life. He didn't need to study to cruise through high school with a solid C average, and he had never planned on needing anything higher than that. He aced a few courses just because they didn't require anything from him, so his GPA was always just a little higher.

But he'd met Nancy partway through, most of the way through if he's being honest, and she had taken notes and made cards and highlighted textbooks. She had played little memory games and made little songs about the things she needed to remember. He tried harder, around her, and even had done a little better.

Which is why when Eddie asks for his help, when he needs to pass two more classes in order to make it out, Steve is all too happy to show him.

Except... Eddie isn't Nancy.

His notes are a mess, completely illegible to anyone that isn't Eddie. He doesn't pay attention to the notecards, and Steve finds him asleep over the textbooks almost every time. He can read an entire Dungeons and Dragons manual cover to cover and parrot back everything inside of it, but he cannot get 2 paragraphs into his history book. Songs almost work, except for the fact that Eddie doesn't know the meaning of singing in his head.

But... Eddie isn't Nancy.

When Steve had suggested Nancy remove articles of clothing for wrong answers, she had balked. She had told him no, and she had meant it.

When Steve suggests Eddie remove articles of clothing for wrong answers, Eddie ends up naked in as many notecards as he has articles of clothing, and the only studying that gets done that night is human anatomy. It only goes slightly better the other way around; he manages to get Steve stripped almost as quickly, and the study session ends.

Steve is at a loss.

Steve is at a loss until he sees Eddie doodling a tattoo idea around his own ankle with a permanent marker.

"Hey," he says. Eddie doesn't have ears like a cat, but the way he doesn't look up, the way his attention shifts with just the slightest twitch of his head, reminds Steve of a cat twitching one ear in acknowledgement. "You have that algebra test monday, right?"

Eddie hums confirmation, and then stops drawing and looks at Steve with a warming smile. "You trying to suggest some flash cards again?"

"Something like that," Steve agrees, and holds out his hand. "Can I see that marker?"

Eddie joins him on the bed and passes him the marker without question. Steve uncaps it, tests it against his skin. It's cold, but not unpleasant, and he doesn't have work the next few days while the store finishes renovations. It could work.

He wriggles out of his shirt, and Eddie's eyes light up in anticipation, but Steve holds out a hand to stop him, marker grasped upright in it. Eddie takes it back with a confused look.

"You have to remember formulas, right?"

Eddie groans. "I've been had!"

Steve rolls his eyes. "You haven't been had. You like leaving marks on me, right?"

"Yeah, with my teeth, Steve," Eddie tells him.

Steve shrugs and sprawls back on Eddie's pillows, arms behind his head. "I don't care how you hold the pen," he says with a shit-eating grin. "But I have a feeling you'll remember the formulas a little better if you're picturing where you've written them on me."

Eddie's breath goes soft, his eyes blinking slowly, and Steve smiles fondly because he knows what Eddie looks like when he loses function for a few seconds. Then Eddie is diving for his math textbook, and a moment later Steve finds himself with a lap full of eager boyfriend.

He scribes his homework onto Steve's skin in ink first and lips second, whispering each one. Steve echoes them, and maybe he actually learns something as well because he knows where Eddie will kiss next by the numbers and letters he recites. He fills in Steve's chest and rolls him over to scrawl all over the lean muscles of his back, down past his ass, onto his thighs.

"Cannot believe you're really going to give me a hard-on for math," he whispers into the soft hollow of Steve's knee, a second before he bites Steve for laughing.

He aces the test on Monday.

MW2 CHARACTERS: School AU

[sfw] cw(s): none !!! As a girlie who has been reading fanfiction for god knows how long, it was inevitable that I came through with a High/Secondary School AU. As a reminder, I don’t know shit abt the British school system so we’re going with my experiences with the American public school system. enjoy dovies <3

Ghost is that one upperclassman in every single one of your co-grade classes that just sits there. He doesn’t say a damn word and you don’t even see him writing down any notes, but somehow, he has the best grades in the whole fucking school. Principal’s honor roll, scholarship recognization galore.

It takes so long for you to work up the courage to talk to him and ask him for help on an assignment and when he admits he doesn’t know they had an assignment to do, you’re a bit dumbfounded. You realize that he quite literally just sits there and vibes the entire time. He proceeds to turn back to the window and stare out of it.

Eventually he warms up to you, though. It takes, like, three months of pestering him until he actively begins conversations with you and you find yourself with a very stoic cheat sheet. He has kept all of his tests and is perfectly fine with just giving you them bc what are morals???

Gaz is the local “i know him but we aren’t friends” kid. Literally everybody knows his name, he’s on the school’s soccer (football, i guess) team and is relatively well known as a nice person, but he only has a few close friends. His grades are also insanely high, you don’t understand how he manages to ace every test while also spending most of his time practicing sports.

He’s the type of person to forget a pencil, however, and usually ends up leaning over to whoever is next to him and asking for one. He usually gives it back, unless it’s someone he doesn’t particularly like. When he tries to give it back to you and you just tell him to keep it, he likes you automatically.

He’s always inviting you to watch his games after the two of you get closer. He also sits with you during shared study halls or lunches regardless of if you or he has other friends in the lunch. Gaz is also the type of person to lean over and ask if you wanna share the copy of an assignment document or swap essays to proofread.

Soap is absolutely the really loud jock kid that people either really like or really hate, and there’s just no in-between (i’m so sorry Foap 😭). Despite this, he’s actually one of those really nice sport boys that will start punching if someone disrespects his friends. He’s also in an abundance of art classes.

In class you can see him scribbling down notes until he gets bored and starts just doodling in his notebook, tuning out the lecture. However, if your science teacher decides today is not a teaching day and puts on something like Bill Nye or The Magic School Bus, he is enraptured. Is also the person to quietly chant “Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill!” during the theme song. Used to hate the Amoeba Sisters until he binged their videos before his Biology final lol.

You start being friends with him on complete accident after you help him with a question on a pop quiz. He gave you puppy eyes! How could you refuse! He proceeds to talk to you the next day like the two of you are best friends and you are now stuck with him until graduation. But hey! You basically have a bodyguard now.

Price is an Honors English and AP Literature teacher through and through. He originally wanted to be a history teacher, but the English position was open and he took it with little complaint. He’s absolutely the teacher you can launch into tangents for the entire class and will take half a point off of your essays for misusing a comma.

If you're his favorite student, he tends to grade your FRQs and other assignments much harsher than he would others, but it ends with you having well rounded essay skills afterwards and acing your assignments later in the year. Will let you hang out in his room during your study halls and is always open to helping you on assignments if you ask.

Hangs thank you notes from students on his walls, has a wild collection of them and shows them off any time another teacher asks him about them. Has cried reading some from students he liked having in his classes.

Laswell is a Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus professor. Idc what u think she is absolutely a math teacher and would absolutely have a doctorate. People who don't like math probably go into her class also not liking her, but come out at the end of the year wanting to be in her class next year.

If you're one of her favorite students, she absolutely gives you little notes on your graded tests like 'good job :)' and always says she's proud of you if your grades improve during the year. She also lets you and your friends eat lunch in her room because she understands why you'd rather be in a math room than the cafeteria.

Has never been seen without a coffee during the first four periods of the day and a random beverage during the last three. She always has a drink with her and it's become a bit of a game between a few of her students. Sometimes she'll give someone who asks a drink as well. A student she particularly liked tried to pay her to bring them coffee; she gave them their money back and brought them a coffee.

Nikolai is a history teacher that also coaches the school golf team. And yes, golf team; that man radiates golf energy and I cannot be told otherwise. He doesn't understand the kids' obsession with things like Kahoot, but makes them because it keeps kids engaged with the class and mostly keeps grades up.

Being one of Nikolai's favorite students is hard if you don't golf, but if you are a favorite, he tends to give you extensions of assignments if you're struggling to find time/motivation. Also will give you candy under the table if you win a Kahoot, or if you visit him during a study hall he will also give you candy. He gives out Smarties (the American version) because he thinks the name is funny.

If you show interest in learning Russian and ask him how to roll your Rs or how to pronounce the Cyrillic letters, he will automatically like you more than the others. As long as he feels like you're earnestly learning it out of interest and not just to make him like you, that is. If you already know Russian he'll like you anyway. Sometimes it's nice to speak his native tongue.

Hey, I remember you mentioning on your IG something about two types of popular artists and one being good at social media and the other being good at art or something like that (I can't really remember lol). But it got me thinking, any tips for how to be good at social media? Cuz I'm certainly not even after posting art for six years lol

Heya!

What I meant by that is that there are traits that allow you to grow on social media, and traits that determine what a highly skilled artist is, and those traits do not always necessarily overlap.

I've seen so many amazing artists that post artwork that blow my head off, and yet they don't have many likes. On the other hand, some artists at the same skill level who draw more popular things will get way more attention.

That is not to say that either is the correct way to create art, but there is definitely a formula to social media that is in play.

There are a lot of posts about how to grow a social media account, particularly on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram art spheres, and imo you really need to examine what you want from your art before jumping into social media mode

The stuff you create to pander to social media might not be art that you want to create at all - I'm lucky, because I am less artist more storyteller, and what I enjoy is telling jokes and silly stories to liven up people's moods :] this, of course, conveniently does well on social media. On a personal note, I have a history of being a recluse and not connecting well with people, and art is my way of trying to communicate my feelings, one way or another.

So of course, if you draw for any reason other than my own, my approach to art and it's relation to social media might be inappropriate for you.

All that being said, if u take a look at those "get big on social media" videos they always cite the same few points... And you can look into that, for sure, but this video sums up how I feel about all that.

I spent like 20 minutes drafting words after the above paragraph, but I really ended up regurgitating sentiments from the video... So really don't listen to me, listen to that video

EDIT:

I just realised I didnt actually answer the question with my anecdotal experience, so here's a list of things I did

1. Posted like 3 doodles a day on social media

I did this for 6 months on a side account on Twitter recently and got the account to 11k followers... And I did this for 3 months on Instagram a few years ago and I think got 3.5k followers. Of course, do not spam maliciously and make sure your art is still of good quality, but for those artworks I posted quickly, I did not colour, and mostly did clean sketches. This also trains you in the matter of line confidence haha. Again, this worked for me because of my set of circumstances (love for the media, want to tell stories, simple art style)

2. Focus on my favourite aspects of media

This helps with respect to burnout - kinda hard to burnout when you love what you're making! For me, it's character interactions and comics. I want to see my blorbos kiss and if I'm not the one drawing it who will?!

3. Interact with people

People eat up work that they can interact with. A choose your own story situation, one of those like/rt to strip a character 😭 those do numbers for a reason.

Additionally, if you post stuff people love, people will respond to it with comments, maybe their own headcanons, adding on to the work... I've gone into long looong Twitter thread conversations with people who added onto my ideas that I threw up onto the screen and I think it's also a nice thing to do to respond to positive comments haha... I'm not very good at this (read: bad at communication)

Queen at British Music Experience Liverpool - 12 May 2023

So in May I went to Liverpool to watch Eurovision live and had the time of my life?? ICYMI Roger suddenly appeared on stage and I was there in the first audience rehearsal which was like?? That was way more than what I paid tickets for lmfaooo absolutely amazing

But you're not here for that, SO! I finally got time to visit British Music Experience in Liverpool where they have these Queen memorabilia!

The first and most noticeable Queen memorabilia here is Roger's drum kit. I took some pictures from several angles so you can hopefully see the setup clearly.

I couldn't find a description plate for it so I emailed the BME to ask them about it, and this was their reply!

The Queen Drum kit has been on display since 2009 at the 02 Arena, later transferred to Liverpool’s Cunard Building in 2017. The Roger Taylor (Queen) Ludwig drum kit has been used in the late 1970s for their News Of The World & Jazz tour. You may notice that he changes his resonant kick drumhead with either the Queen symbol or the album artwork. This was common for drummers to change resonant drumheads frequently at the time during the 1970s.

The other Queen things are inside this glass display, and their descriptions are pretty much self-explanatory as above (let me know if I need to add alt text). The drum kit used to be inside the glass display but they've taken it out for some reason.

The first set of lyrics is from Machines, look at that "parahumanoidarianised" bit which either was previously "parahumanitarianised" or he just struggled with that made-up word lol. Still for me it's a very underrated song, I love that they brought it for half of the Rhapsody Tour in 2019 and I hope they bring it back sometime!

The next set is the lyrics to White Man, which you can see is written not only in pen but also red crayon (? marker?). I'm not sure what the extra bits in red are, next to the lyrics - looks like random notes about something and also a random doodle of something on the top left...

This set is the lyrics for Teo Torriatte, and if you look carefully at the bottom of the paper there are smaller additional handwriting for a different verse, not sure if it's Freddie's as well...?

This one wasn't listed on the description of the display but it's the handwritten lyrics to I Want to Break Free. It looks like John's handwriting rather than Freddie's, and a previous version of the description plate in 2017 (attached above) from Jim Jenkins on this website seems to confirm it.

(The website also showed that there used to be a set of lyrics for Hammer to Fall, but it wasn't there when I visited, so I wonder if it was moved somewhere...)

This is the best piece on display - one of Freddie's kimonos that he wore for the ADATR tour in 1977. I know he probably had a lot of kimonos, maybe even multiple ones of the same pattern, but this is the picture attached above is the closest one I can find online. So it does not mean it's necessarily the same one, I really don't know!

Note that even that auction website didn't even find a picture of him in it, just him wearing a "similar" one... although I haven't actually asked around as I usually would and I haven't had time to look it up myself, maybe someone can find it!

And last but not least, the main reason I went here tbh... Brian's John Birch guitar! Everything about its unique history is described on the plate in the previous picture. In this audio you can hear the moment that guitar started acting up in the middle of Brian's solo and hear the loud crash when he decided he's had enough of it lol, iconic.

And a bonus Freddie popping up on one of the screens!

That's all the Queen-related memorabilia at BME in Liverpool, but the rest of the place is pretty amazing in itself, lots of historical pieces from the music industry throughout the years, so it's definitely worth a visit if you're around!

some notes about the au/fic below the cut since i keep forgetting to actually share !!!!

in this fic magical girls are treated somewhat like?? idols i guess??? idk it wasn't intentional but that's just kind of what happened. there's like. agencies that manage magical girls and give them assistance/work to do . the system's fucked though.

all kinds of supernatural stuff happens!! pokemon do not exist but magical beasts of the same origin as magical girls do! and they're. fairly similar to pokemon in many aspects

magical girls aren't the only people with magic. there's just a very specific phenomena that goes on w/ magical girls specifically. they've existed since the beginning of recorded history! (and guess who's a huge nerd about that.)

anyway. character specific notes. i'll start w diantha bc she's the "protagonist"(read: first half of the story is in her pov)

she's still an actress in this au!! she probably could've unlocked her potential as a magical girl as a teenager if she'd... just had the time to . oopsies.

she didn't. become a magical girl until the start of the story (she's. 26. that is a VERY late age to discover that in this!!!!)

dating malva. lives with her as well. how cute hope nothing happens to their relationship(smiles)

is assigned on the important task of apprehending a powerful rogue magical girl(cynthia!) who has evaded every attempt in the past four years. hmmm wonder how this will end up!!!(sorry. im giggling writing this all out)

her weapon is a rapier similar to the one diancie is seen with in the oras animated trailer i'm just not 100% satisfied w my design for it yet. lol rip

aaand cynthia. wonder what her deal is!

she's a Very experienced magical girl. she is also a mid 20s disaster who is trying to juggle school with erm. being a wanted magical girl.

she used to be in the same agency that diantha is now in, but ran away after finding out some. Very Classified information.

so many people want her gone. too bad she's almost untouchable. (there's. a Ranking system for magical girls but i don't feel like explaining it. know she's probably one of if not the most powerful one alive tho)

is trying to unravel the mystery of where magical girls actually came from. (this is part of what led her to discovering some things she shouldn't have.) however her quest for Knowledge isn't. really that important to the main plot of the fic. i may make a spinoff about it tho if i ever get to that point lmaooo

ok genuinely i cant share too much about cynthia without just spoiling all the fun surprises i have planned for the story sorry

Hi anon i love this ask im totally gonna try do as many mercs as i can for this aa!! but for now i will start with Sniper >:3 They def woulda gotten along from the start I think, or at least started with a friendly rivalry. Intern has no official history (literally just have them written as a jobless transient before being hired by Pauling) but 100% for self insert reasons they're also a kiwi lol. So there's some fun NZ vs AUS vibes going on over the slightest of cultural differences XD Tho the best example of their dynamic is, because of Interns height (or lack thereof) Sniper often uses them as a headrest or drapes himself over them. Intern may act annoyed but they always love the huggy touchy love-language of the bushman.

Later on Intern finds themself hanging out in Sniper's nest a lot, where ever that may be for the day. Or his room/camper. Intern likes the quiet away from the other mercs and the two of them can chat away the hours easily.

Dark hidey-holes in the corners of forts also make a great place for shenanigans of course. Not much to say about the next doodle just wanted to include some actual shippy stuff 😳

I will say tho, on a similar note; that I do have many a nsf.w headcanon and a couple of doodles if ppl are interested in that kinda stuff?? I wanted to ask first tho so i don't just dump it on unsuspecting followers but would y'all be interested in that? i did my history notes today, which was essentially copying the messier version of notes i wrote in class onto my gambol notebook. peep the differences in the picture on the right-- pencil vs pen and some color coding, just write it down holy shit handwriting vs legible handwriting. i haven't finished compiling everything, but it shouldn't take too long to finish the rest. out of all subjects, i'm proudest of my history notes, and i'd love to talk about note-taking some day.

i've got a long day ahead of me tomorrow: i have to go back to school for the school drama, then i'm going shopping w/ my friend, so i prrrobably won't get a lot done. but i'll try my best lol :^)

bonus: scribbles i found in my notes. sometimes i like to doodle stuff (cats especially) when i'm taking notes, so i can cheer my future self up during revision when i find those doodles.

Morphine doodle that definitely got a bit out of hand lol, but I do love how it came out!

While researching Morphine's history I came across something said by William Osler, a Canadian physician who's regarded as the father of modern medicine. He referred to morphine as "God's own medicine," and I wanted to draw something using that quote!

As I explained in my last post, morphine was named after the Morpheus, Greek God of dreams, because of its sedative effects. Morphine is often using in end of life care to make people comfortable and ease their pain. Wings and poppy flowers are the two main symbols associated with Morpheus, and while I originally included the wing back tattoo onto Morphine's design as a reference to this, I think the idea of said tattoo turning into angel-like wings when being used in someone's last moments is a cool idea.

Morphine is incredibly old, and use of the 0pium poppy medicinally is even older. According to the DEA museum, the earliest use of 0pium poppies being grown and used was in 3,400 B.C. in Mesopotamia. It was know. As the "joy plant," and as its influence grew, it was the catalyst of the mid-1800's 0pium Wars in China. But before that, it was used in ancient Greek and Rome as a way to put people to sleep and relieve their pain.

There's a lot of dripping liquid shown in this doodle, that's because 0pium, also called poppy tears, is dried latex collected from the seed capsules of the 0pium poppy. Cutting a capsule reveals a milky white substance, that being latex. The idea that Morphine could cry white tears that either look like or actually are 0pium was something I thought was cool. There's a couple seed pods included in the drawing as well.

Lastly, a paragraph from Kyoto Pharmaceutical University detailed a brief history of Morphine's name, and noted how it is currently known as the "king of drugs," which inspired the crown shown in the drawing, along with Morphine's usually poppy crown.
