She inched away as she saw the woman’s hands reach for her. Dorcas shakes her head, still holding back tears. “Can you give me a minute, please?”

Dorcas laughed at that. A genuine laugh. “Merlin, you are a stubborn girl.”

Lily smiles and reaches for her again.

“I love you, Dorcas.” She whispers. “You must know that.”

She knows. Merlin, she knows.

The redhead leans in, inches from Dorcas’s lips. “I love you.”

Dorcas shuts her eyes tightly. “I can’t, Lily. I can’t.”

Lily nods, holding back her own tears.“The Order first.”

Above all else.

Lily takes a moment and then digs into her purse. “Your lipstick is smudge, come here.” Lily gives a weak smile.

Her eyes fluttered shut as she feels Lily’s soft hands on her cheek. “Will I see you again?”

She already knows the answer to that.

The two stand silently as Lily puts the red lipstick on Dorcas’s lips.

She already knows.
