Dorian and the early years✨ (Brivia is 1 1/2 in this)

I feel like Dorian, who has fought along side people who shared a different view from Tevinter, is more adament on making sure Brivia is connected with her culture as much as she can.

After all, I think his talks with Solas would stick in his mind of how Tevinter and their elven history went and doesn't want it somewhat repeating with Brivia. So he gets books, scriptures, everything and anything that helps Brivia know that her culture for herself is important. (While also reminding her along the way that he loves and care for her cause thats also important too.)

i am constantly at war withon myself about my own morality. i try to be good. i am lying. im being the best i can. i fantasize about killing my enemies. i would never actually do that. i am a terrible person. i am the heart of my friends. i am the dirt on the ground that fertilizes the earth. i am the forest fire and the smoke that consumes it. i am smoke. i am fire. i destroy all i touch just to prove a point. i never mean to. i need others almost as much as i only need myself. i want to be held. i don’t deserve it. it’s just this on a relentless loop all the time. my mind is floating a way and my hands burn and once they calm and a nice friend with a pretty smile and good heart comes along i wonder how long it will be until i burn them too. i am the batter, both humanoid and monster all dependant on the perspective. i am just another man. i am satan’s spawn itself. i am worse than i believe and i am better than i know. i deserve to burn in hell almost as much i deserve to live a peaceful life for all i’ve suffered. the world likes to believe it’s black and white, that there is only people on the court or on the stands and never both or neither. their understanding of the world is flawed but at least they’re free from this pain as universe attempts to colour correct my greys until it fits somewhere nicely so my thoughts are pulled in two. realistically i know i am neither saint nor satan but when my blood pounds angrily at the thought someone was foolish enough to trust me or when my heart physically hurts from singing of someone else’s betrayal it becomes hard to see my bones clearly for what it is.

The 1976 adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray with Jeremy Brett as Basil Hallward.

Basil was one of my favourite characters in the novel so seeing Jeremy play him actually healed my soul a little bit.

However, did you know Jeremy Brett actually portrayed Dorian himself in The Picture of Dorian Gray (Season 5, episode 20) episode of Armchair Theatre in 1961? Haven't found any footage, but there are some photographs:

Edit: Aaaaand the reason why no footage can be found is because there is none! Zilch! It's disappeared without a trace! According to Wikipedia, many episodes of Armchair Theatre were lost and this particular episode was amongst them. Jeremy Brett's Dorian... completely lost to time... *sheds a tear*

At least we have these wonderful pictures to prove it happened!

Apparently a total of 258 episodes of Armchair Theatre are missing due to the archival policies of television at the time. The entire first series is gone.

There’s a lot going on here that I frankly don’t have the energy to cover, but here’s some food for thought.

I’ve been thinking about the current state of the fandom, and the actions Dorian has been taking. It’s been putting me off because for the most part, there’s a gray area in which fandom operates in any piece of media; and Dorian is effectively meddling with that gray area in a way that is driving fans away. It’s been bothering me on a level I couldn’t really put my finger on.

And then I remembered, Dorian may be the copyright holders and owners of the game. But they aren’t the creators. This is where the disconnect is, and why they’re overstepping.

Legally they are within their right to do (most of) of what they are doing. It’s cruddy and violates a lot of the unspoken rules that exist between the fans and the creators, but they can do it. It’s very obvious that it’s targeted right now but that’s an entirely different topic that I don’t think I can comfortably discuss.

It’s interesting because there is another fandom I know of that is seeing (if it hasn’t concluded already) a slightly similar problem. The Undertale fandom has recently flocked around a fan game, Undertale Yellow—which used music from the original game. As far as I’m aware, the creator—Toby Fox—was fine with it. However, the copyright holders were not. Materium Music’s CEO did not want to allow the release of UTY’s album on YouTube and other streaming services even though Toby Fox approved of it. The soundtrack had many original elements but reused motifs and other fragments from Undertale’s soundtrack.

Sound familiar?

But while UTY had the original creator helping fight for their rights as fan creators, we do not. And so the copyright holders, Dorian, are doing what they can to protect the assets they own with very little thought for the creations outside of their own platform. The time and effort that goes into creating. The beautiful dedication to the game that, while they own, they did not create and as such they cannot appreciate it fully.
