Doll review time!

today I received via target the Sunny and Luna Madison two-pack, which i had had my eye on for a while but decided i would wait on a sale for them. and they went on sale recently for 50% off! they were 25 dollars (plus shipping, as my target was unable to let me reserve one for in-store pickup so i had to order them shipped) but in my opinion a very good price for both of them!

i really appreciate that RH always has the color-coordinated stands. saves me from having to get cheap generic stands every two seconds like with mh LMAO. also, Sunny is actually my first Rainbow high doll, since all my other girls are shadow high! i also noticed that shadow high has slightly different stands with spikes on them as compared to the RH ones.

here's the back of their hair.

Sunny's hair is CRUNCHY. i'm talking rock solid. for this elaborate hairstyle she has though, i understand why. Even though i could probbaly at least get the four dangling curls looking nicer with a wash and re-curl, for now at least i'm content to leave her as-is. Luna's hair is significantly less crunchy and more in line with the typical amount of gel for this curl pattern. out of the box it is in two distinct halves, but i separted the curls a bit to give her some more volume.

now, for some individual details.

I'll start with Sunny! In my opinion, she's the clear winner of the pack, and one of the cutest RH designs ever. the reason i was interested in this pack was for her adorable outfit, as well as the fact I like this Luna outfit more than her basic doll.

first up, her face! Sunny's very cute, but what struck me the most with this doll is her hair clips! she has 5, and theyre all different colors. combined with her shooting star earrings, there's a lot to love. I'm very fond of the yellow and rainbow color scheme of this doll.

Her shoes! yep, heel crocs. and leg warmers. it's so ridiculous and over the top, just like everything about this outfit. they're perfect.

I took her jacket off to kook at what she's wearing under it. the little decal on the shirt is surrounded with embroidered safety pins. cute!

the skirt is two layers. the pain white skirt, and the clear plastic with stickers layer over that. i love the pocket details, though they aren't seen much with the shirt and jacket over them. i do like to see that they're there though!

one thing that struck me with this doll is without the jacket, her outfit is actually not very yellow at all! it's mostly white

as for that tiny jacket, it's as pretty and detailed for its size as i'd espect out of rainbow high. tiny ruffle details, pockets, and drawstrings. on the back is a little cartoon sunny with some more rainbows, and a sun and moon that match her hairclips. also, a little cameo of the bear bag.

I love the decora (i think, correct me if im wrong im not super knowledgeable about jfashion cultures) influences on her. everything has a cute and childish vibe, but while altogether its definitely something i could see one of my more fashionable friends wearing around our college campus. a 10/10 sunny (i think she's definitely the designer's favorite)

next up, Luna!

Luna is quite pretty as well, and im a sucker for the series one grayscale dolls. they're such a unique concept! however, I feel like she just lacks that last bit of punch that sunny has. maybe because she doesn't have quite as many acccesories? maybe some hairclips for her too, or a necklace.

here's her face! I love her face in this doll, I'm pretty sure the mold is identical to sunny's (they are twins, after all) but their makeup makes them look really different to me imo. epectually from a distance, Luna looks a bit more mature. in person as well, her eyes are quite clearly a lovely shade of purple, (that isn't too intense as to ruint the grayscale effect) though it seems like it doesn't come off well in the pictures.

not as many details to show off for Luna, but here's a close-up on the shoes. my roommate said she recognized them so im sure theyre in referece to some designer shoes (as RH/SH often does) that i'm not familiar with.

nothing particularlt special from the back. but you can see the little attachement loops on the belt to the skirt a bit better.

he'res her bag, though it's not as fun as sunny's bear bag, it's quite cute, and light enough that it can be held up by Luna with the small handle, or worn on the shoulder instead. it also opens, which i always like to see.

Final thoughts: This is my favorite of the twin 2-packs out of RH/SH so far, I think they're gorgeous and well worth the sale price. Sunny in particular is once again proving to be of the most consistently well-designed characters of the whole line (i love her Fantastic Fashion look as well, and while yellow + rainbows is basically always sunny's thing, I think this is the best execution of it out of all her dolls. I also really prefer this luna to her series 1 doll, where the chrome is more contained and it looks more like an actual outfit you might see in a high school. happy to add both of them to my collection!

Fahrenheit 451's dismissal of the importance of other artforms

something is pissing me off about farenheit 451 and i'm sure it's been said before because this is quite a book but ill say it anyway. im only on page 54 so i have yet to judge if this is a good book or not, but i like it so far. it's a beautiful love story to books and writing and the written word, and it's about how important it is to share stories. i am a storyteller, i tell stories in many ways, but i am first and foremost an illustrator, with a love of cartoons and animation. i consider every method of storytelling an artform; and intellectual, important ones at that: oral histories, pop songs, stand up comedy shows, cartoons, a kid's oc, books. and i believe that at the end of the world, humans need art, and not just one form of it. every art form is as important as the next. so what pisses me off is that it seems like Ray Bradbury does not consider anything but books to be an effectively important artform. He makes a bold claim, describing cartoons and pictures as a lazy method of storytelling.

More cartoons in books. More pictures. The mind drinks less and less. Impatience. (p. 54)

As someone going into the animation industry, i took great offense to this. What i believe is truly meant here is that the people who consume cartoons are lazy, and that i can agree with (after all, it is much easier to watch the Loony Tunes than read Shakespeare), but in the same vein he is calling the people who made the cartoons lazy as well; that the people who make cartoons and the people who enjoy them are dumber and lazier than those who create and enjoy books. i understand the importance of the written word, and i certainly believe people don't read enough, but he clearly values books higher than visual art forms. he makes this defense against classical artists, so we know that he does not deem visual art unimportant:

And at the museums, have you ever been? All abstract. That's all there is now. My uncle says it was different once. A long time back sometimes pictures said things or even showed people. (p.28)

but then this itself shows a bias toward classical art, and he does not view abstract, or modern, art as real art. i think this, in part, is because he is a product of his time. tv and cartoons are new and strange, the funny pages in a newspaper are just for kids, and comic books are for delinquents. i understand his feelings on modern abstract art, but it is art and it is just as important as Michelangelo; and these are both as important as Faulkner.

he shows a hatred for other mediums, like music, and television, and film. and i know, i know, it's about how things are made more simple so that people can consume quickly and without thought, but to imply that music and cartoons and film requires no thought is an insult to those complex and beautiful art forms. think about the love and care that is needed to create them. is it not comparable to your own when you write a novel? but now i must come down off my high horse, and tell you that i think all artists share this bias for their own art form, and i can't blame Bradbury. you can only have one favorite, and his is books. i just think that all artists should be able to recognize each other as equals.

After stumbling her way through multiple corridors in the dark, seemingly abandoned hospital she had woken up in, Rain finally came across another soul. "Oliveira...? That you, man?"

Things had gone so bad so quickly on this mission that even a seasoned soldier like Carlos was a little bit in shock. His platoon was given such limited information going in, and granted he'd forced the issue by jumping out of a helicopter before they'd reached their ordered drop-off location, but... Geezus, this was bad. Training for the U.B.C.S. was pretty standard military training, with a side order of here's how to handle panicked civilians affected by various biological agents. "Agents." Carlos wished he'd gotten a lot more clarification for that term, because he never in a million years expected it to be crazed, virally-infected human beings.

His experiences dealing with guerilla warfare in Brazil in his youth had conditioned him to some extent on how to deal with full-on combat breaking out in the middle of civilian streets, but... this... This was something entirely different. No matter how radicalized people became, they still had instincts, senses of self-preservation, or some kind of morals or stakes that could be appealed to to some degree to get them to stand down. These people... it was like they had rabies or something that affected their brain function. They just kept coming, regardless of the imminent danger to their lives. Regardless of being told to stay where you are or I'll shoot.

Yuri had fallen first. Bitten by one of those things, and then... well, he became as crazed as they were. It was some kind of transmittable biological agent, Carlos had determined, though he didn't know how to protect against it. It seemed to be a lot like rabies in that the sufferers would eventually become uncontrollably aggressive and seek to bite others to transmit the pathogen.

The rabies virus, Carlos knew, had mechanisms to make its host more aggressive in the final stages, when the host was dying, so that the virus would be passed on through bites and other contact with blood or saliva and not die with the host. Maybe... this was something similar? He could only speculate, because his employers were mum about the details, especially after he'd reported Yuri's demise. As soon as he began radioing back that any of his group was infected... Umbrella went radio silent on them. That was when Carlos knew he really had a serious problem on his hands.

Nikolai had been the next to die, taken down by dogs infected by whatever this was that was killing people. Apparently it wasn't limited to human hosts, but also affected dogs, cats, birds... you name it. Carlos had done his best to try and protect him but... it was too late. Now he found himself trying to track some kind of supply drop he'd seen be delivered by helicopter after his last radio. He wasn't entirely sure it was to do with his platoon, but it was something, some form of communication from Umbrella, and so he felt compelled to check it out.

He'd zeroed in on the Racoon City General Hospital, but as soon as he entered the place, he knew something was very wrong. It was empty. And silent. During a crisis? During a life-and-death biohazard situation in which people were being bitten, scratched, torn apart, and literally eaten alive... the hospital was... empty? That made no sense to him. Cautiously, he held his semi-automatic rifle at the ready as he moved methodically through the building, looking for whatever had dropped from that helicopter. He'd found nothing thus far, until he turned a corner and-

"Ocampo?" Carlos said, immediately lowering his rifle upon seeing his friend and Umbrella comrade. He was glad to see a familiar face, but even so, his brow furrowed. "They didn't tell us they were deploying Sanitation as well," he mused, before looking her over, taking a couple steps towards her. "Are you alright? What happened to you?" She really didn't look good, if he was being honest. Then again, nobody was looking great right now, given the situation here.

He tossed his rifle behind him to his right side, leaving it hanging by its strap as he took out a semi-automatic pistol. "Here," he said, offering it to her along with a couple of magazines. "The situation's gone to hell in the city. My platoon was overrun within minutes. I'm all that's left. Umbrella's not responding to my evac calls. We're gonna have to fight our way out."

Okie dokie, for my opinions on the other dorms!

Yeah, I'm fairly clearly an Octavinelle fan - it's for sure my favourite dorm. I do really like the other dorms, too :)

I think that Heartslabyul may be my second favourite dorm, either that, or Pomefiore. I absolutely adore the combined weirdness and classiness of both of those dorms, and the chaotic dynamics of the dorm members (is it also because I'm kind of obsessed with the second and third years in Heartslabyul and Pomefiore? ... maybe... ^^ )

Scarabia is also great, both because I love Jamil, and because the spirit of the dorm really speaks to me. It also fascinates me how in the fandom, Scarabia is known as the 'party dorm', when that's solely Kalim's influence. I think that if he wasn't there, the Scarabia students would probably be known for being just as reserved and solitary as Ignihyde or Diasomnia students.

Diasomnia is so cool, and I am so excited to learn more about the Diasomnia students come Book 7!! I love the vibe of the dorm, and the found family of the main 4 lads is so sweet. Also, I love Silver, and Lilia is also growing on me as a character.

I don't relate as much to Savanaclaw, but I think that the characters in the dorm are fantastic! Leona is so interesting to look at and analyze. Ruggie is also curious, and such a wonderfully scheme-y individual. And Jack is such a sweetheart, and deserves so much more love.

Ignihyde is a curious dorm to me, and I am also looking forward to how Idia and Ortho will develop in the post-Book 6 storylines. I think this may be my least favourite of the dorms... but I don't dislike Ignihyde. I would definitely struggle in that dorm (specifically with all the tech :/ ), and I don't really enjoy Idia or Ortho as much as most of the other characters. I think they're both really interesting, complex characters, and I LOVE hearing theories about them! They just don't... I don't know, tickle my fancy as much as some of the other students / dorms?

so, even though I mostly talk about Octavinelle, I'm more than happy to talk about any of the dorms / characters!! ^w^

pome team's the one with the least SSR cards bc i do not have any SSR cards that compliment pome except for beans floyd :'))) i did swap out robes vil with beans vil at times and used lab floyd instead of beans floyd when we needed water, but this is the default

ofc i got my beloved dorm azurid duo <33 they're legit a lifesaver + hween jade makes them so *chef's kiss* this team has a whopping NINE buddy bonuses which is so fire emoji sjfkdjsfk (also sometimes i swap out dorm riddle w/ lab riddle for more water spells)

this is the team that changes the most with each fight. the default is this bc we have two heals from lab jamil and gala kalim, but i swap out jamil's card a lot per fight. sometimes i use his birthday card for flora/water, and sometimes i swap to his firelit card. (originally this team was supposed to have dorm cater and robes trey, but i swapped to idia/lilia last minute)

these teams have been working pretty well in all the containment facilities + in the 6-66 fights, so i wonder how they'll hold up with the 6-67 final fights,,,,,

Having trouble with the OB battles? That annoying [redacted student name] from chapter X won’t let you advance the story?

I went through all the currently released OB battles (now begrudgingly updated with Ignihyde) using only R cards to show that not everything is lost. Sending an ask with your cards is completely OK, but you can also check the teams under the cut to make a similar one with higher rarity.

Oh and if you didn’t already check our FAQ, it has info on the OB battles’ elements and effects, so please check it out too so you don’t get caught by surprise by some nasty debuff.

Magic will be 1/1 or 5/5, healers are more leveled up than the others, but you don’t need them to have Lv.10 magic like mine.

The post format will be as follows:

Prologue

All magic and buddies are level 1.

Heartslabyul

Rook is 10/1, but everyone else is 1/1 and you don’t need Lv.10 for this.

Savanaclaw

Floyd is 10/10 and his buddy with Jade is also Lv.10, but everyone else is 1/1 with untouched buddy level. You don’t need Lv.10 for this.

Octavinelle

Epel and Rook are 10/1, Trey is 5/5 and Sebek is 1/1. While Lv.10 isn’t necessary, it’s better to have at least 5/5 from this chapter onwards.

Scarabia

Rook and Epel are 10/1, while Vil and Kalim are 5/5. Try to have everyone with magic at least 5/5.

Pomefiore

Floyd is 10/10 with Jade buddy Lv.10 too, Epel is 10/1, Trey is 5/5 and Jade is 1/1. You can only start healing on turn 4, so you need to survive until then or end the battle ASAP.

Ignihyde

This battle was a real pain in the ass and forced me to use another player’s support rather than the NPC options. Limited myself to a Lv.80 5/5 Dorm Azul with Jade buddy Lv.9, but you should easily find supports out there with higher magic levels. Ortho, Idia and Jade are 5/5, Floyd is 10/10.

Diasomnia
