Second of all, I agree with that anon about finding Jimin fascinating. I have never been this intrigued by any other celebrity. I find him different but I don't know why. He is good looking but so are other idols. I mean it's Kpop. Most have to be good looking to make it. It's just such a weird thing. Like you can't help but notice him. Everytime I watch a BTS related content, he is the first person I notice. He isn't even my favourite but my eyes will instantly see him before anyone else. He also somehow leaves the strongest mark in any mvs or performances or even simple content. It's weird. I don't get it.

I saw your ask come in days ago, just as I was logging out of the app and felt a bit bad because I knew I wouldn't have any time for Tumblr for the next few days. Lately, I've actually wanted to remain active here, but life keeps getting in the way. I know it's not a big deal but I really am thankful that so many of you understand that I'm active here only when I can afford to be. 💜
On to more interesting topics, yes to everything you said about Jimin. There's no other member I write about here more than Jimin and it's something I don't ever feel like apologizing for because that man is infinitely captivating.
It's rare to see someone who recognizes exactly what he is, as young as Jimin did. There are many points over the years that Jimin has done something, and it registered in my head that this man is different. It's human to be a bit self-indulgent, to be a little self-absorbed, a little self-deception is a very natural mechanism that sometimes shields us from other people's projections and malicious intent. And so it struck me as almost inhuman in how acutely aware Jimin was to recognize his need to be seen, heard, in the most audacious format available to him as a 13 year old boy in Busan, South Korea.
His depth of self-knowledge, indicative of his unusually high intelligence, is at the source of his magnetism and charisma. In my opinion. You can see it in his eyes and it amplifies his already unnatural beauty.
I recently started speaking with a Jimin-bias on Twitter and we've become good friends. She described Jimin like this (and I've linked in sources):

That is one reason I am ecstatic about FACE. The music itself is one thing and we'll deal with that when we get there - I may or may not like the music (though given what he's released so far, the fact he's in BTS, and him working with RM and PDogg, I doubt it). But the subject matter of FACE: Park Jimin, would interest me even if I was on my death bed with only 10 KB of data available for me to use one last time.

I'm not very good at explaining what I mean, but I hope those who love him don't take offense when I call Jimin a freak. Because that is what I'm absolutely convinced he is. I don't know how else to express just how beastly I think he really is. Looking at him for me is like looking at one of those lenticular prints that shift into different things depending on lighting - like you turn your head one way looking at Jimin and you see a panther, turn your head another way and you see a dove, turn yet another way and you see a snake. And each animal is the most perfect expression of its form. He hones every quality he expresses with a meticulousness that scares me sometimes, because every example of that sort of personality I've seen in music has burnt out or passed before 40 (Prince being the only exception). The rapline have an identical quality but they seem less volatile than Jimin to me for some reason.
Anyway, I'm rambling. I'm excited about FACE and Anon when I saw your ask come in days ago, I suspected you were fishing (lol), but also I love Jimin and will take every excuse to talk about him. It's also way easier to talk about him than it is to talk about Yoongi, Namjoon, and Hoseok for me lol.
Speaking of which, it goes without saying that Jimin's evolution in self-awareness is also a result of his relationship with the rapline in BTS, as well as some other members. Jimin's comments about how he relies on those three, of what he thinks of their characters, and about how those three have assisted and influenced him, are consistent with how I see them too.
Back to Jimin, he's a once in a lifetime personality and there's nothing wrong with admitting it.

Angst time, baby!
It’s a bit of an endless (lol) source of joy (comfort?) to me when a character who, by all logic, should be supremely self assured and confident, but is instead reserved and insecure. Maybe because I’m somewhat the opposite - confident (fake or otherwise) despite my comparatively minuscule ability. As the embodiment of the literal concept of dreams, as well as the collective unconscious, Dream should be above such things as insecurity. And yet… and yet… It can be a lot, being different. And if the King of Dreams is worried about stuff like that, what hope do us squishy mortals have?
I love the little thought exercise Dream has when considering how Hob might get along with his siblings. It’s not something I see very much in the Dreamling fics I read, Hob interacting with the others. Dream even thinks kindly (or at least a bit kinder) of Desire, which is surprisingly heartwarming considering their relationship. It makes me realize that I should try to find more “Endless Family shenanigans” Dreamling fics. It could be fun!
The comfort is just hnnnnnnnnng. Hob is such a good boyfriend, exactly what Dream needs. I love it when between the two, Hob - 600+ years old but still the younger - is the more grounded, emotionally secure partner. He knows to let his Dove fly free, but will always be a safe spot for him to land. Also, he and Death would get up to the most ridiculous siblings-in-law antics, so I kind of understand at least part of Dream’s fears. But of course, with a man like Hob, he needn’t have worried so much.
Hurt/Comfort is my jam, and this is a very delicious serving of it.

This fic harkens back to a headcanon I know to be true. Mainly that if you hurt Charles Xavier, your days are fucking NUMBERED. With that in mind, the idiots in this story get off LIGHT.

My name is Nek and I make alternative rock music with my buddies, under the moniker Lake Jackson. Tbh I have a musical fixation with the 80s and 90s, and especially with music that comes from the USA. 
I’ve been in quite a few bands. 
My old project was called His Majesty the King of Spain, I was in a turbofolk cover band called ΒΙΕΤΝΑΜ and I also briefly played various acoustic instruments for Blank Canvas and Άλλη μια Μπάντα από τη Νότια Ντακότα.
Ιn high school, we had a band called Parallel Lines and then when I was in uni, my buddy Dimitris and I formed an all-around rock cover band called The Dogs of Leisure.
I think this pretty much sums it up for my brief musical journey.
My favorite album of all time is Doolittle by the Pixies, and my favorite pizza topping is pepperoni.

Week 8: Digital Citizenship and Software literacy: Instagram Filters
Face filters and editing programs that only hide or accentuate imperfections have become so commonplace in today's culture that people have forgotten how their bodies and features genuinely look. As a result, people may compare themselves to unrealistic standards set by social media, which could lead to an inaccurate sense of attractiveness and self-worth. Around 2010, Instagram introduced basic photo filters that altered the color and style of images. These weren't interactive or real-time filters, but they marked the beginning of social media image manipulation (YordStudio, 2020). During 2011, Instagram launched "live filters" which allowed users to see the filter effect while taking a picture and in late 2015, most people agree that this was the pivotal moment for social media filters. Snapchat debuted "lenses," interactive augmented reality (AR) filters that instantly added effects and animations to selfies using facial recognition technology. Similar to flower crowns or dog ears, these filters gained immense popularity.

Filters are a key tool for manipulating photos, smoothing imperfections, and altering appearances ans being able to understand how filters contribute to image manipulation is relevant to the book's themes. (Katz, Louise, 2021). Studies suggest a high prevalence of filter use. One study found over 90% of Bumble participants (women and non-binary people aged 18-30) used beauty filters or edited their photos on social media. A Dove Self-Esteem Project study revealed that 90% of women reported using a filter on photos before posting them online

Of course misused filter are also a controversial topic to debate, especially using Deepfakes to imitate the voice, the movement of characters, to fake out or to initiate hatred or being bashful and disrespectful to individual. Deepfakes are a subset of synthetic media in which photos or videos are altered to look authentic using machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). They might be employed to give the impression that someone is talking or doing something they are not. People using Deepfakes for laughters, for fun without thinking any consequences, and it is really easy to use since AI has been developing nonstop. Donald Trump is one of the many celebrities that becomes a victim to the fake motion AI, as people consistently faked his speech or his camera movement by just a single click! Here is a footage of someone adjusting his speech into a clown.

For picture modification and self-expression, social media filters can be an imaginative and entertaining tool. They let users experiment with various aesthetics, edit images, and post a well-curated version of themselves online. But, it's critical to consider any possible drawbacks. Overuse of filters can impede real communication, contribute to unattainable beauty standards, and even cause mental health issues. The secret is to use it responsibly. Through a harmonious equilibrium between relishing filters and upholding a positive self-concept, individuals can adeptly traverse the virtual realm with assurance and genuineness.

Week 7:  The Hyper-Sexualization and Aestheticization of Female Bodies -Influencers, Social Media, and the Negative Impact of Beauty Standards
The beauty and sex industries in Western society continue to promote the hyper-sexualization and aestheticization of female bodies (Coy-Dibley, 2016). The rise of "influencer commerce" has brought significant changes to how online content is created and consumed (Drenten et al., 2019, p. 42). However, social media algorithms often prioritize high-value users, leading to limited visibility for others (Carah & Dobson, 2016, p. 3). In pursuit of a large following and monetization, particularly women influencers conform to societal standards of unattainable and specific feminine aesthetics (Coy-Dibley, 2016).
On social media, the representation of women is closely tied to their bodies, influenced by societal norms and categories (Drenten et al., 2019, p. 51). The beauty and sex industries have commodified certain femininities and aesthetics, leading women to employ strategies like fashion choices and beauty practices to present themselves in highly sexualized ways (Drenten et al., 2019, p. 51). Influencers often emphasize specific body parts, wear revealing clothing, and engage in gestures that hint at undressing, contributing to a recognizable "porn chic" aesthetic (Drenten et al., 2019, p. 51). For example, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner. As Figure 1 shows, to conform to societal standards of attractiveness and femininity, they strategically choose outfits that accentuate certain body parts, such as wearing form-fitting clothing, bikini to emphasize curves or revealing clothing to highlight their physical attributes.

The pursuit of beauty standards negatively impacts female bodies, leading to cosmetic-seeking behavior and body dissatisfaction. Social comparison theory explains how women compare themselves to idealized bodies, resulting in insecurity and body-image issues (Coy-Dibley, 2016). This can contribute to the development of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), where individuals become excessively concerned about perceived flaws in their appearance (Nicewicz & Boutrouille, 2022). Industries and media perpetuate the belief that women's bodies are never good enough, fueling the desire for constant improvement (Dorfman et al., 2017). Social media platforms like Instagram amplify these pressures, normalizing cosmetic interventions and creating unrealistic expectations (Rodner et al., 2021). For example, the plastic surgery craze dubbed the "Dash Effect" saw a surge in inquiries for lip fillers after Kylie Jenner admitted to having the procedure (Olya , 2015) As Figure 2 shows, many young women get lip filler injections to get Kylie lips. The Kardashian unrealistic beauty standard contributes to an increase in cosmetic-seeking behavior as inspirations, with a significant percentage of patients seeking aesthetic surgery to enhance their appearance.

In light of these findings, it is critical to challenge the beauty and sex industries' influence on female bodies. For example, The Dove Self-esteem project is challenging the beauty standard. By promoting diverse representations, body positivity, and healthy perceptions of beauty, digital citizen can work toward a society that values and embraces each individual's uniqueness and inherent worth, free of the negative effects of unrealistic beauty standards.

Dove Real Beauty Campaign
Continuing the theme of successful campaigns, The Dove Real Beauty Campaign was an early and excellent example of what companies should be doing. 
Dove launched the campaign in 2004 to challenge the body ideals everyone seems to be held to within society, and to promote body positivity. They showcased real women of all shapes, sizes, and colors with the ideal to reshape the stereotypical image of beauty. 
This campaign upped the revenue of Dove by 10% within the first year of the campaign and is still an active Dove campaign today, 9 years later. This campaign has rooted other Dove campaigns like the Dove Self-Esteem Project, which has also been successful. 
The goal of this campaign shone through to influence the beauty industry and other brands to showcase real people. The aim is that these brands will adopt Dove's idea of inclusivity and diversity within their digital marketing strategies.

I then decided to look at an iconic contemporary project which promotes positive self-esteem. The Dove Real Beauty Campaign challenges societal beauty standards getting people to describe their looks to an artist, then getting others to also describe this person to an artist, helping people to acknowledge their negative self-perception. Researching this project will provide me with better knowledge on providing valuable inspiration and guidance for my own creative solutions.
Campaign Objectives:
Self-Perception - Raises awareness how women perceive their own beauty, typically being over critical
Boosting Self Esteem - Empowers women pushing for positive self-esteem by encouraging appreciation of natural beauty
Highlight impact of stereotypes - Challenges beauty ideals and the negative effects it can have on self esteem.
Creative Elements:
Comparative reveals:  Shows contrast between self-described sketches and sketches from strangers description. Highlights criticality of people own their own appearance
Storytelling: incorporates emotional narratives from participants by showing their reactions
Media:
Dove used TV Advertisements and print advertisements to reach a wide audience
The campaign also used social media channels create a sense of community which then encourages people to share stories and further the impact of the campaign.
They also produced a website which offered resources for people on their positive self-esteem journey
Impact and Effectiveness:
Cultural Impacts: Initiates conversation around beauty standards and self-esteem
Emotional Resonance: Campaign resonates with viewers, eliciting empathy and prompts self-reflection about peoples own self-perception.
Perception-shift: Encourages people to reconsider self-perceptions around
their beauty
In conclusion by challenging conventional beauty standards, Dove promoted inclusivity  and advocates for self-esteem. The project also created a foundation for a further cultural discussion. The creative elements being spread over a range of media allowed for better effectiveness and reach in challenging social perceptions. Considering this, I plan to also produce deliverables for different forms of media to help me hit a wider audience. It has provided valuable insights to me about structuring a campaign advocating for positive self-esteem, and I plan to take inspiration from product structure and how they clearly defined their objects when producing my response.
