Ellie redesign? Ellie redesign. I'm gonna be honest, I really dislike her original design. She looks like she's 6 instead of 12. Also, please don't put a 12 year old in a crop top. Moving on, I gave her a white/black streak (I know it's on the wrong strand in her ghost form, I'll draw it correctly in the future I swear) to show that she's kind of a failed clone. Maybe her human form would still have some ghostly attributes because of this. She has a water core in a lot of people's headcanons, so I made her ghost form's hair wavier to reflect that.

Anyway here's my breakdown of the ffxiv jobs, my opinions on playing each, and the tier rank of how good their story was
TANKS
WARRIOR - warrior is so fucking funny why did they make it able to solo heal itself and the entire party in 90% of the content in the game. Raw Intuition/Bloodwhetting is so broken in dungeons its hilarious. And then they have like 3 additional healing skills on top of that. And they kept buffing it throughout Endwalker. So it is currently the easiest to play, does the most damage (i think...?), and has the best healing of any of the Tank jobs. 2nd fave probably.
Story Tier: C, it's ok, Curious Gorge is a good name. i have like nothing to say about it it's a generic AF story
PALADIN - I used to hate PLD but I think the partial rework they got halfway through Endwalker helped it a lot. It's much less clunky now. Probably still my least favorite Tank though Hallowed Ground is fun and it's pretty close to Gunbreaker for me.
Story Tier: F, this is the worst class storyline in the entire game. It's so stupid. The writing is so bad the writers acknowledge it makes no sense at all and I'm like. Yeah, thanks, I am experiencing this shit. Perhaps write a story that makes sense next time instead of pointing that out.
DARK KNIGHT - Unfortunately this is my favorite Tank 🫡 which is rough since it has the worst survivability out of any of them. But I love how you use MP and the silly number of OGCDs. The Blackest Night is such a fun ability and it's a crime that it's not a baseline skill you get from the start. Why do they have so many DRs that only cover magic damage. I must ask.
Story Tier: S, there's a reason it's the most popular and well regarded class storyline. It's really good, also the only questline I know of that uses the quest log text as part of the narrative. Outside maybe a few of the very late Endwalker quests. And, well... same writer lmao
GUNBREAKER: I think GNB looks cool as fuck and I like that it has 2 DPS rotations. The Gnashing Fang combo is so fun. Superbolide memes are always fun. My main issue with it is a skill issue because I am just constantly misaligning its burst windows.
Story Tier: C. It has some interesting lore but I found it pretty forgettable as a story.
HEALERS
WHITE MAGE: I hated White Mage for a while but something clicked and now I totally get it. I find it fun in dungeons cause you get to Holy spam and stun lock everything. As uh. The healer. That's fun. Once you get Afflatus heals (and then Afflatus Misery) it clicks. It's fun maximizing damage and playing chicken with the tank's HP.
Story Tier: B, you get a lot of lore around the Padjal, and I think the Stormblood story where you find a padjal living in hiding with her mother is pretty good! Also it's not technically the job storyline but there's a WHM side quest to get a unicorn mount? i guess it's technically a CNJ quest but same diff. no one else gets that shit. so that's cool
SCHOLAR: probably my least favorite of the healers... it just feels super clunky. You can tell a bunch of different design philosophies went into it over the years and none of them mesh very well. They've made it so the Fairy Gauge controls literally one spell. Why have the gauge at all? It's also a huge missed opportunity that there's no tie in or interaction with the fae in Shadowbringers. I love the idea of a battle tactician healer but I think it needs a rework.
Story Tier: B+, I liked the characters and its the main way to get backstory and lore on what happened with Nym.
ASTROLOGIAN: While I think AST has a similar issue to SCH (lots of different design philosophies over the years) I find it way more fun to play. I like the card mechanic and how it interacts with the rest of the party. AST is basically the only job that has its own like. Minigame? As part of its rotation. And I know a lot of people don't like the RNG for it but personally I find it fun. I know AST is getting a redesign in Dawntrail so hope it's good.
Story Tier: C? I think? I'll be honest I don't remember it super well but I didn't find anything objectionable about it. And I like the tarot aesthetic and lore and how it's healing based on manipulating luck.
SAGE: I think SGE is tons of fun, I'm not sure if I like it or WHM more. I love all the skills SGE has for preventing damage and the gimmick where your DPS heals someone in the party. Visually the hi-tech laser shooting healer is a lot of fun. IT HAS A GAP CLOSER. The only thing i wish was it wasn't so MP negative and that it did more damage. It's a little sad its DPS output is so low compared to the other healers (even AST when you factor in how it buffs the party). Since SGE is supposed to be a healer that heals through damage it's silly its damage kinda sucks.
Story Tier: A, I loved this storyline. Both the Endwalker job stories are very self contained and interesting. While the twist is pretty obvious it's still an interesting exploration of uh. Scientific ethics. Yeah
PHYSICAL MELEE DPS
MONK: I've probably played MNK the least of the phys melee but I like the whole adaptable combo thing. Not much else to say since I have played it so little. Might bring it back out and try again. It DID have the funniest guide in the Balance discord for a while.
Story Tier: D. I think? I remember thinking it was dumb, lmao. Sorry.
DRAGOON: MAN I wished I liked DRG more. It looks so fucking cool and I like how it interacts with the dragon lore. But I find it very punishing to play. To do good damage you have to align so many different cooldowns... and snapshot your DOT correctly... and screwing one thing up just fucks your DPS output forever. Like AST I believe this is being reworked in Dawntrail so I hope it feels better to play.
Story Tier: C+. I think it starts strong since you get to meet Estinien pre-Heavensward and it melds nicely with that story. But I found it pretty directionless post-HW which is a shame.
NINJA: I remember finding this one fun. I like that there are different combos you do that have varied finishers depending on the situation. I am just... bad at remembering which combo to use to get which finisher, lol. So I haven't played it as much. NIN gets a lot of flavor other jobs don't get with their unique run and jump animations. And you get a Bunny of Shame on your head if you fuck up a combo, which is incredible.
Story Tier: A. The Rogue story is probably the most memorable of the basic class quests. Ninja just has great characters and a fun story. What is with that one guy. Karasu? If you know you know. I also like how the Rogue characters show up later in the Ninja story. That's fun.
SAMURAI: I had a similar experience to WHM here because I initially hated it then really came around once it clicked. SAM seems very complex, it has a ton of buttons and different combos. But it is actually quite intuitive once you figure out the general pattern. And it does INSANE damage. I think it's the highest DPS output in the game? I love building the combos and then doing a huge finisher for a bajillion damage. The guaranteed crits and constant OGCD weaves make me feel unstoppable. I think this is tied with RPR for me.
Story Tier: B+. I found the exiled samurai character and his journey toward redemption very compelling. I won't spoil beyond that. However it does fall apart a little in the second half. Still fun but not as good.
REAPER: I love RPR, the teleportation is a lot of fun, and I love finally unleashing the demon form and going ham on the enemy. The weapons are the coolest looking in the game. Every scythe design hits. I probably played this the most in Endwalker. My main critique is the Death's Design mechanic. I hate having to keep a stupid debuff on the target to do damage. It's like a dot but without the optimized snapshotting. If they want to keep this idea i think it would feel better to change it into something like SGE's Kardia where you apply it to one enemy to do increased damage to it without having to worry about reapplying it. not sure how they would balance this for aoe but that's not my job. But even with that caveat I still really enjoy the job.
Story Tier: A+. While it doesn't reach the highs of DRK's story it comes close. I love the badass old lady main character. Her hunting a voidsent that possessed her grandfather would be cool enough but making her a Garlean exile in hiding who grudgingly agrees to train you just adds an extra cool factor. I really enjoyed this story. As a bonus theres a lot of incidental dialogue in the post-6.0 Endwalker story if you completed the RPR story because it ties in a lot.
PHYSICAL RANGED DPS
BARD: It's a bit clunky, its got some outdated design elements, it has one of the lowest damage outputs in the game... and i LOVE IT. this was technically the first job I ever played? totally different character like 8 years ago. and i was so so bad. I think i am actually pretty good at current BRD. the animations look cool. i like that it's a class you really need to work for and optimize to eke out that last bit of damage. and boosting everyone else's damage by existing is kinda neat.
Story Tier: B. I'll be real I barely remember this but I do remember it was gay as fuck so immediately gets an extra tier for that.
MACHINIST: MCH is really funny right now because like. It's phys ranged, right. The design behind phys ranged is you have 100% uptime cause you can freely move around and not have to worry about cast timers or melee range or anything. So the trade off is that they do less damage than other classes. Endwalker MCH did not get the memo and does insane damage anyway. My controversial opinion is that it has similar burst DPS to RPR. No i will not elaborate. I'm also bad at doing good damage on MCH which is impressive since it is easy.
Story Tier: B+. Some Ishgard noble's gay son wants to build machines instead of killing dragons the good old fashioned way and has to prove himself to get taken seriously. A tale as old as time. See I haven't done this quest in like years but I still remember it. He is a memorable character. It's just not like. knockout wowza compared to the A tier stories.
DANCER: Dancer is the second easiest DPS job in the game behind SMN. So if i am sleepy it's the one I like playing. You play simon says. you do a lot of damage when you play simon says then do almost no fucking damage otherwise. I think it's the lowest direct damage in the game? for a dps i mean. You have high stakes sexual tension with a DPS of your choice via Dance Partner. I wish other DNC players knew how Dance Partner works. YOU CAN DANCE PARTNER ANOTHER DANCER. THE BUFF STACKS. BUT YOU CANNOT DANCE PARTNER THE SAME PLAYER AS ANOTHER DANCER. THOSE BUFFS DO NOT STACK. ok i'm good. anyway
Story Tier: C. there's some shit about negative emotions and purging them? in theory i think this has some interesting implications with Endwalker lore considering Dynamis and its role in the story. Very similar mechanically to what's going on with the DNC story. but i really don't think the writers made the connection so it's like pure speculation and not the actual story. It's meh. fine i guess. i did like all the flashy dancing sequences.
MAGICAL RANGED DPS
BLACK MAGE: I am so so so so so so so bad at BLM. i pull up the guide. i read the guide. it all makes perfect sense. i go into a dungeon or trial or something. somehow i always get like Zeromus or some shit. and i drop Enochian or something and everything goes to shit and i'm yelling and i'm not even like slide casting or teleporting or anything i just run around crying. then i remember i have like 10 more buttons i haven't been pressing and oh god the dot fell off. people play this? for fun? i admire it. apparently they do a ton of damage if you can play it. could not be me.
Story Tier: B? There's some voidsent and Thirteenth lore. all the black mage characters are Lalafell because it's funny i guess. OH YEAH it has like the one named male Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te NPC in the entire game and he's fun. look at this twink:
Tumblr media
sorry i don't have anything to say about BLM i am bad at it
SUMMONER: easiest DPS job in the entire game. they redesigned it for Endwalker so it is practically a new job. i have no idea how it played before. but it is super streamlined. maybe too streamlined? it's another one to play if you want to turn your brain off. i like that at 90 you summon The Actual Primals instead of little representations of them. and i like the way your burst phase switches between Bahamut and Phoenix. it all looks very cool. they should add Leviathan as a summon in Dawntrail.
Story Tier: C.. i don't remember a single thing about this questline except you interact with Y'shtola's half sister. i think you go to Cartenau at some point. idk
RED MAGE: RDM is one of those jobs that looks really complicated when you start then you actually play it and it is just super super easy. that being said i think it's really fun. I like balancing the white and black magic gauges. Dualcast is a great gimmick and it feels cool to lob two big spells in a row at something. Dualcast Verraising a chain of dead players is so fucking funny. it's a shame that the existence of Verraise means RDM does shit damage to compensate for its utility. It and DNC just sit at the bottom with BRD barely scratching ahead of them. i think? i don't remember LOL
Story Tier: A, I really like the story and characters. I like that you have a middle-age world weary catboy (catman) as your mentor. and i like that he canonically trained Alisaie too and you chat a little about that. it's a fun story!
BLUE MAGE: what the fuck is a blue mage
Story Tier: ???

Entries 16 and 17 in my historical Disney Princess series: the Frozen sisters!
I know that Elsa and Anna aren’t officially part of the DP lineup (Frozen is a franchise all on its own) but I wanted to include them as they’re so well known and popular and a ton of people consider them to be part of the lineup.
Ok so these two needed a LOT of work. Frozen is one of my least favorite Disney films in terms of costume design and their outfits are virtually devoid of any semblance to fashions of the late 1830s to early 1840s, when the Frozen saga supposedly takes place (yet another Disney movie with a concrete time period!) If that hadn’t been made clear by a few hints dropped throughout the movies and shorts, I would have had no idea where to place Elsa and Anna, as their wardrobes look so modernized. PARTICULARLY Elsa’s ice gown from the first movie, that slim, slinky silhouette and high thigh slit would NOT fit into the 19th century AT ALL. Another problem with their outfits is that they seem to be based too much on the bunad, the Norwegian traditional folk costume for women, particularly because of the patterns and rosemaling.
For this project, I only focused on redesigning their main outfits from the first movie - Elsa’a ice gown, Anna’s traveling outfit, and both girls’ coronation day regalia. I took a few liberties with Elsa’s ice gown, given that it’s a fantasy go made of ice and she could technically do whatever she wanted with it while still sticking to the trends of the early Victorian era. Anna’s traveling bunad was the hardest of the four to do, as I initially had few resources for 19th century Norwegian folk dress, until I came across some authentic Norwegian folk wear and accessories on the website for this Norwegian museum, which I was thrilled to find! I am also convinced that Anna’s winter outfit is the most accurate of the four I’ve chosen.

dash redemption here jock content there you’re all so extremely valid but my next proposal is Paulina redemption with a side of Danny joins the cheer squad. she sees him do one (1) vertical front flip and then stalks him for a week til he agrees to join up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Danny now owns compression tights and seven pairs of the cheer shoes and also way less hoodies bc his squad mates steal them all. Phantom is a terrifying level of flexible now and also way better at on-purpose kicks.
bonus: Sam and Dash both get to have a gay awakening while watching their friends at cheer practice. they have silent solidarity but neither will ever ever speak of it on pain of death

Technically a redesign for Serena’s second look as I rlly don’t like it that much but also is gonna be for a small lil project I might try to work on where I develop Serena’s character post xy bc I realized that I don’t actually dislike/hate Serena all that much bc I think she could have had really good development but it was hindered by her crush on ash.
I want her to realize that her wanting to do contests initially wasn’t actually for herself but so she could be appealing to Ash and decide that she needs to work on herself more ( also that shes dealing with comphet bc I do feel that the reason she idolized and crushed on ash so hard is bc she felt like she should bc isn’t that what she’s supposed to do? ) so she decides to give contests another chance so she can use her experience there to become a better performer and then go back to kalos to focus on becoming a better performer.
I also think she and may/dawn should be friends too ( I need to watch DP and AG so I can better reads on their characters along with the other coordinators there ) and she has a couple of traveling companions that vary depending on what region she’s in ( both canon characters and a few ocs )

Lady Phantom AU: What would Lady Phantom's outfit be like? Cause I don't want to give her the jumpsuit Danny Phantom wears.
I was debating on that because I wanted to keep the Ladybug theme to Lady Phantom, but the whole DP aesthetic is black/white/green.
Then I remembered that some people have drawn AU Ladybugs with a white and black suit based on some kind of white ladybug that exists.
So I'm thinking of using a variant of my LB redesign but swapping the red for white. Lady Phantom should keep the white hair/green eyes combo though because 1.) I gotta reference the DP theme song and 2.) Danny and Marinette both have black hair and blue eyes. (I know Mari’s hair is technically blue but its supposed to be the “"black with blue highlights” thing so don't @ me!)

After an insanely long time, 3 full- and countless partial- visual redesigns, 2 ability reworks, no less than 4 commissioned art pieces and a lot of other new OC’s in the meantime, I can finally, at long last, present; Kefilwe Naidoo, AKA Firestarter!
She was one of my very first Overwatch OC’s, the second (or technically third) one I ever made, and can you believe it, in the 3-4 years it’s taken me to give her a decent redesign, the Overwatch Devs STILL haven’t added a black woman of their own to the game, crazy huh?
Anyway, her long awaited officially revamped stats and backstory are contained, below~
Real Name:  Kefilwe Naidoo
Alias:  Firestarter
Role:  Damage  /  Job:  Area Control, Armour Busting and AoE Healing
-
Hit Points:  250  /  Health:  225  /  Armour:  25
Primary Weapon:  Pyroclast Flamethrower
Ammo:  180  /  Reload Speed:  1.75 seconds  /  Ammo Consumption Rate:  22 per second
Damage:  6 per point of Ammo  /  DPS:  132 + 25  /  Range:  8M forwards, 5M across (At max range)  /  Attack Type:  Flat Fan Spray
Primary Fire, Flame Spray:  Spray fire out in front of Kefilwe in a wide, short range fan.
Special:  Kefilwe’s Pyroclast solution sticks to enemies, burning them continuously even after they are no longer being directly hit by the fire stream. Further, the Pyroclast eats through metal, causing all of Kefilwe’s damage (including abilities but not quick melee) to not only ignore the damage reduction of armour, but to be doubled against it.  /  Damage Over Time (Burning Damage): 25 per Second  /  Burn Duration: 3s after last direct contact with Pyroclast fire
Ability 1, Fireball:  After a short cast time, fire a very large ball of flames in the direction you are facing, piercing all barriers, constructs and enemies in it’s path. The Fireball only stops upon head-on contact with a natural wall, or after travelling 85M, at which point it explodes into a large AoE blast.  /  Projectile Size: 3.5M Orb  /  Projectile Travel Speed: 22.5Mps  /  Cast Time: 0.4s  /  Explosion AoE: 12M  /  Damage (Contact): 85  /  Damage (Explosion): 50  /  Cooldown: 8s from Firing
Ability 2, Pyro-Manoeuvres:  Perform one of two manoeuvres which can both leave damaging fire in their wake. Follow-up with Primary Fire - Dash forwards leaving a trail of fire behind you which lingers for 4s. Or Follow-up with Secondary Fire - Leap upwards and forwards, causing a small blast of fire around you, both when you jump and when you land. Can hold up to 2 charges.  /  Movement Speed (Both): 13.5Mps  /  Damage (Dash Trail): 30 per Second during contact (+Burning)  /  Damage (Leap/Landing Blast): 45 each (+Burning)  /  Dash Trail AoE: 2M Width, 10M Length  /  Leap/Landing Blast AoE: 5M  /  Cooldown: 8s per charge
Ability 3, Fire Wall:  Erect a wall of fire 4M wide and 7.5M tall, up to 15M away from Kefilwe. Any part of the wall not touching the ground when it is created instantly sputters out. Allies can pass through the fire unharmed, but enemies who do so are damaged as well as burnt, and enemy attacks which pass through the wall have their damage reduced.  /  Duration: 5s  /  Damage per Second: 20 + 10% of Enemy’s Max HP + Burning  /  Damage Reduction: -25%  /  Cooldown: 12s from Use
Ultimate, Inferno:  Unleash a huge blast of fire which quickly radiates out from Kefilwe in a cylindrical pattern. Enemies who pass through the fire take damage as well as being burnt and briefly slowed (For the remaining duration of the ult), and allies who do so are healed over time (For the remaining Duration of the ult). The cylinder expands at a rate of 3.5Mps + 1 for each second the ult has been active, and is 14M high. Kefilwe's speed is halved for 0.65s while the ult is cast, after which the AoE is locked in place, but Kefilwe can resume normal movement.  /  Duration: 6.5s  /  Damage (Contact): 125 - 10 for each Second the ult has been active + Burning  /  Healing: 45 per Second  /  Enemy Slow Effect: -25%  /  Required Charge: 1950
Passive, Warmth:  Kefilwe exudes a constant warmth which very slowly, but continuously heals herself and allies around her, even during combat. Kefilwe gains Ultimate Charge from all healing provided by this ability at a rate of 1.25x the usual rate for healing (1.25 per 1 point of healing).  /  AoE: 12M  /  Healing: 7.5 per second
-
Ultimate Voiceline (Self & Enemies):  “Tshisa ngoku!” (”Now Burn!”)
Ultimate Voiceline (Allies):  “Feel the Heat!”
Hero Select Voiceline:  “Uphold the Just, Defend the Weak”
-
Home / Base of Operations:  Pretoria, South Africa
Nationality:  South African
Sexuality:  Bi  /  Gender:  Cis Woman  /  Pronouns:  She/Her
Age:  42  /  Date of Birth:  26th of September
Height:  5ft 8in
Affiliation / Allegiance:  The South African Front-Line Defence Force (Formerly), Overwatch (Recall)
Backstory:  A young girl when the first Omnic Crisis began, Kefilwe was originally never expected to join the fight, but a year into the Crisis when a wave of Bastion units came to Pretoria in unexpected and undefeatable droves, many children like her were given little choice but to adapt to their new grim reality.
Skirmishes raged between the malevolent Bastion units and the then-new South African Front-line Defence Force at the cities edge. With each passing day the threat of annihilation grew, and Kefilwe, a budding young chemist, turned her mind to finding a way through the Bastion Units’ mighty armour.
By the time she was fourteen she had done it, her Pyroclast Solution, a special chemical compound which when set ablaze was able to eat through most any metal with ease. She joined the S.A.F.D.F. and began making headway with the Bastion problem, by the time international forces responded to Pretoria’s need for assistance, only half-functional, terribly melted stragglers were left.
Now, the world descends into chaos once more; Omnic uprisings, political assassinations, all out wars, some even saying a second Omnic Crisis is on the horizon. So Kefilwe has made the choice to don a new suit, and prepares to do what is needed of her, once again.

PSO2 New Genesis Will Hopefully Be Much More Than a Visual Update
July 24, 2020 6:00 AM EST
Our hopes and fears for New Genesis, a new content update coming in 2021, promising to bring game system renewals to PSO2.
Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis is the new update coming to PSO2 in 2021, bringing with it a graphics update and a renewal of the game’s systems. The update celebrates the 20th anniversary of Phantasy Star Online.
Sega first revealed New Genesis during Microsoft’s Xbox Series X games showcase on July 23. Seeing it’s an update, not a brand-new game, PSO3, or anything like that, it’ll obviously be coming to the same platforms PSO2 is on, meaning Windows 10 and Xbox One, with an Xbox Series X version coming. This also means that in Japan though, New Genesis will be on PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch via Cloud gaming. Note that the Japanese version of PSO2 on PC is very easily accessible in English thanks to fans.
I always wondered why Sega finally decided to officially release PSO2 outside Japan in 2020; nine years after the game’s first Closed Alpha Test in Japan. Now we all know why. PSO2 New Genesis definitely makes the game more beautiful, all while keeping certain visual elements for which PSO2 wouldn’t be PSO2, like the uncanny valley character faces. Players who unlike me, care about graphics, will definitely be appealed. However, I’m worried as to whether they will stick with the game once the initial sense of discovery and hype dies down, and I’m skeptical as to what this update will bring to PSO2 besides better visuals.
PSO2 New Genesis Reveal Trailer
youtube
If you already play PSO2, the Japanese version at least, you know the game is currently in Episode 6. Well, New Genesis seems pretty much to be Episode 7 except with a fancy name rather than the usual numbering. The Japanese press release also sells it as a “new game”, but it’s ultimately an update. An update which seems voluminous and promising.
Besides the graphical update, new content and game systems changes will be coming. The video hints that new classes will be added. Though rather than brand new classes, it looks like at least the three original classes of PSO2, Hunter, Ranger, and Force, are all getting newer versions with fancier movements. Most notably the jet-boots like things all characters seem to possess now, which allows for quick bursts of movement. Most enemies seems more imposing than before too, with a focus on fighting a single monster instead of a swarm. The original Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast was one of the inspirations for Capcom’s Monster Hunter, which itself became an inspiration for many others. It seems like Sega is again throwing the ball back. Thorough the trailer, the combat actually doesn’t feel that much different from current PSO2 though.
Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Universe, Phantasy Star Online 2, Phantasy Star Nova, and now PSO2 New Genesis.
I’ve entered the Phantasy Star Online series with its first entry in 2000, played every version barring Universe, and ultimately kept playing PSO Blue Burst on PC private servers till 2011. As such, I was pretty eager to get into PSO2 when it was announced, and started the game with the first Closed Alpha Test in August 2011. While I quickly noticed how different it is from PSO1, I still greatly enjoyed it. Overall, PSO2 greatly improved over the years. You wouldn’t believe how slow the characters’ running speed initially was. The game is a much better and pleasant experience now compared to its beginnings. And yet my excitement and enjoyment died down over the years, only playing to hangout with online friends, but ultimately taking an indefinite hiatus from the game since late 2018.
In my opinion, PSO2 has multiple problems, and they’re quite hard to explain as they only hit you once you’ve spent a considerable amount of time with the game. But one way to sum it up well is how it ultimately feels like the game controls your play schedule. Mainly because of the scheduled Emergency Quests every week, which are the most interesting and the most rewarding content. PSO2 ultimately decides for you when do you play, what do you play, and when do you stop playing. Overall, in my last months of playing PSO2, it often felt like a chore rather than a game, even without min-maxing or when trying to enjoy the game as a “casual” player.
Min-maxing in PSO2 is also not worth it as it’s incredibly costly, in time, money, and most possibly real money. The act of “Affixing” equipment in PSO2 feels like a gacha game inside the game, and can easily screw you over. PSO2 definitely changed as I’m talking from experiences from 2011 to 2018, but at the very least back then, I couldn’t think of any content that was worth min-maxing. As long as you and all the players you play with don’t get hit much and have good, up-to-date equipment, which isn’t too hard to get, you could clear any endgame content. Which in turn made the grind of repeating the same Emergency Quests and endgame content over and over all the more pointless. It’s ultimately not worth it unless you wish to brag by uploading videos on YouTube where you solo bosses planned for 12 players. (Technically you could do that even without min-maxing, but those are always timed battles, so even if you’re skilled enough to never get hit, you won’t beat the bosses without enough DPS.)
Another issue is how PSO2 often fails to keep older content relevant, and always keep adding more and more on top instead of improving preexisting elements. This also makes it hard for beginner players lacking knowledge, who could spend hours and hours running certain quests for rewards that aren’t actually “worth” anything. With better equipment available through easier means. I’m worried New Genesis might turn out to this same pattern all over again.
It’s worth noting PSO2 also has a pretty good story mode. With the addition of New Genesis, what will happen to all the previous PSO2 main story content? Will it be rendered unplayable, only reduced to a compilation of cutscenes? This already happened in the past, and I fear it might happen again.
If there’s one thing PSO2 excels at however, and what New Genesis will be improving, it’s being one of the best cosplay games there is.
One particular aspect PSO2 is very good for is being a cosplay and fashion customization game, and that’s definitely one of the points New Genesis will focus on. PSO2 already has very extensive character customization options, especially when it comes to female characters and mecha, seeing we’re talking about a Japanese otaku game here. Most hardcore players on PSO2 I knew weren’t spending hours and hours for the rare drops and weps, but to get enough money to buy the newest clothes for their 765 years old youkai loli character.
PSO2 also had numerous collabs in eight years, adding costumes and customization options from Sega franchises like Sakura Taisen but also dozens of iconic Japanese popculture elements from Eva to costumes designed by Suzuhito Yasuda. Again though, most of these are only obtainable through real-money gacha with abyssal drop rates, or by spending gigantic amounts of in-game money, buying from other players.
Tumblr media
In any case, I strongly hope PSO2 New Genesis will try and bring some new solutions, instead of simply painting over mold. I have high hopes for the “system redesigning” it will bring. In Japan, PSO2 regularly has live streams detailing upcoming content, so we’ll learn more soon. While we’re moving to next-gen in the middle of a pandemic, with the world being in the weirdest place we’ve ever experienced, PSO2 will stay relevant in the world of free-to-play online JRPGs with gacha-like elements. It’ll definitely be a serious competitor to Genshin Impact and Blue Protocol.

The difference and relationship between MiniDP and HDMI
HD output revolution pioneer: HDMI interface HDMI high-definition multimedia interface is a digital video / audio interface technology, is a dedicated digital interface for image transmission, which can transmit audio and video signals at the same time, the highest data transmission speed is 5Gbps, while There is no need to perform digital/analog or analog/digital conversion before signal transmission. HDMI can be paired with Wideband Digital Content Protection (HDCP) to prevent illegal copying. The HDMI interface not only satisfies 1080P resolution, but also supports advanced audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. At the same time, HDMI supports EDID and DDC2B, so HDMI devices have "plug and play" features, signal sources. “Negotiation” is automatically performed with the display device to automatically select the most appropriate video/audio format. Compared with DVI, the HDMI interface is smaller in size. The cable length of DVI cannot exceed 8 meters, otherwise it will affect the picture quality, and HDMI can transmit up to 15 meters. As long as one HDMI cable can replace up to 13 analog transmission lines, it can effectively solve the problem of messy connection behind the home entertainment system. Unfortunately, the use of the HDMI interface requires payment of a certain technical agreement license fee.
Tumblr media
Challenge the rising star of HDMI: DP interface DVI and HDMI are transmitted by converting the signal into TMDS to minimize the transmission of differential signals. However, in the notebook field, it has long been the world of LVDS (Low-Voltage DifferenTIal Signaling). The introduction of the DisplayPort interface is a perfect solution to this problem. DisplayPort is now widely supported by the industry, mainly due to the two advantages of DisplayPort: First, the advantages of DisplayPort at the protocol layer, DisplayPort uses MPA (Micro-Packet Architecture); second, is notebooks, etc. The problem with portable devices. The use of the DisplayPort interface greatly simplifies the wiring complexity. Regarding the difference between DisplayPort and HDMI, we know that HDMI is the first specification for CRT, and inherits the core technology of DVI, TMDS, which is still an extension of DVI in essence. The video content of DVI, HDMI and UDI are transmitted in an instant and dedicated way, which ensures that the video traffic will not be blocked when it is large. DisplayPort was originally developed for LCD monitors. It uses the "Micro-Packet Architecture" transmission architecture, and video content is transmitted in packets. This is significantly different from video transmission technologies such as DVI and HDMI. In other words, the emergence of HDMI replaced the analog signal video, and the emergence of DisplayPort replaced the DVI and VGA interfaces.
Tumblr media
Good or bad relationship between DP and HDMI:
The DP interface is better. The main reason is that HDMI can only transmit up to 30 frames per unit time due to bandwidth limitation. DP does not have this limitation. Therefore, at high resolution (3840*2160 or higher), the DP interface is better. There is no difference in the resolution of 1080P.
The difference between HDMI and DP is the number of frames of images transmitted per unit time. HDMI can only transmit 30 frames, and DP is unlimited.
High-definition multimedia interface (English: High DefiniTIon MulTImedia Interface, HDMI) is a digital video/audio interface technology. It is a dedicated digital interface suitable for image transmission. It can transmit audio and video signals at the same time. The maximum data transmission speed is 4.5. GB/s.
The Dp interface, which is the DisplayPort interface, is a transmission interface for high-definition audio and video streams. The longest external distance can reach 15 meters, although this distance is inferior to HDMI, but the specifications of the connector and wiring have been prepared for future upgrades, even if the future DisplayPort adopts the new 2X rate standard (21.6Gbps), the connector And the wiring does not have to be redesigned. In addition to the connection between the device and the device, DisplayPort can also be used as an interface inside the device, or even a data interface between the chip and the chip.
The difference between the MINI DP interface and the Thunderbolt interface is as follows:
1. The main difference between the Mini DP interface and the ThunderBolt interface is that ThunderBolt has a data transfer function (PCI), while the MINI DP does not have the function of transmitting data.
2, ThunderBolt is a composite interface, it can be understood that it can provide PCI-E to external devices Mini-DP only supports display; ThunderBolt is now available on most platforms in the form of Mini-Displayport interface.

I was planning to make a whole post anyway about my hopes and predictions for Gala Leif if he ends up happening next month, but there’s also a whole lotta other stuff to talk about now with the FEH rerun, the Ciella fight teaser, and our first gala dragon, so I guess I’ll take the chance to just talk about everything all at once, lol.
I feel like I went through every possible human emotion in the span of like ten seconds when I saw the gala banner announcement a day or two ago and then saw what it was actually about. That sure was a roller-coaster.
I honestly don’t really care about Mars that much [mainly because I’m always just more interested in adventurers than dragons], but I’m really curious about the precedent this is setting, with this being our first gala dragon, and this also happening only one month after the last gala banner.
They’ll probably talk about it in the next This Month post in a week or so, but I’m gonna just assume for now that we’re gonna get gala banners on a monthly basis from now on, rather than every two months. Which is a little bit scary to think about since it gives us less time between each gala to save up for each one, but we’ll just see how it goes.
Everyone’s predicting that we’re gonna alternate between gala dragons and gala adventurers, but I’m not sure it’ll be strictly scheduled out like that. I feel like we’re just switching to a monthly schedule and we just happened to get a gala dragon as the start of the schedule shift. I think it’s more likely that we’re going to start seeing reruns of old gala units between entirely new gala characters. I mean, it’s pretty obvious how much revenue it’d get them if they ever decided to rerun Gala Cleo or Gala Alex, lol.
Mostly I just can’t even think of that many options for what they could release in terms of gala dragon alts. We might get some of the other dragons that the royal siblings have pacts with, but we only know of like two other ones.
Mars’ introduction is bringing up the whole hot button issue of powercreep in the fandom, but honestly I don’t think Mars being really powerful is that big of a deal. He’s not exactly essential for any content, and tbh at the end of the day I just think it’d be weird if our first gala dragon WASN’T notably powerful. People already complain about dragon banners as it is because they have such low value. I can only imagine how many complaints there’d be if we got our first gala dragon and it only ended up being a sidegrade to the existing options. From what I’ve seen of how Mars changes up things on the DPS sim, I think they struck a good balance of making him powerful without him being super gamebreaking. I honestly think that Marth’s mana spiral is a much more blatant example of powercreep, and has had more of an impact on the flame meta than Mars alone.
Anyway, on the note of Marth and co, the FEH rerun has finally begun, and I kinda have to agree with everyone that the defense gamemode just doesn’t really feel good to play at all when it’s locked to solo, lol. It’s so obviously designed for co-op instead. It’s not really that big of a deal, but it does feel like more of a slog than it should, especially since you have to do it like 45 times for the event endeavors, and since there’s so many valor rewards. I’m curious to see how it pans out when this becomes a regular gamemode for future events, though. Hopefully they get better at balancing it and making it fun to play.
Even though I still don’t have any interest in pulling on any of the FEH banners since I just want to save for Gala Leif, I did decide to 70MC Alfonse, because haha bad decision machine go brr :) But I honestly do like him a lot, and I’m excited to get Sharena from the upcoming event. I hope she’s a light lance since I don’t have H-Elly or H-Vanessa, but we’ll see how it goes.
We also got some more teasers of the new FEH event and how it’ll play out. It looks like it’ll be a wave-based arena mode of sorts where you fight lots of enemies, which apparently include boss versions of different gacha characters. I think they mentioned a while ago that they’ll be introducing a new event type to the event rotation along with defense battles, and I assume this’ll be the first example of it. If they do, I hope they keep the part with you fighting boss versions of gacha characters, since that’s a neat idea that makes them feel different from the other events we get and the bosses we fight.
They haven’t really said anything about what the new FEH units will be like aside from Sharena, and I can’t really make any guesses since I’m not a Fire Emblem fan to begin with, but I’m already bracing myself for the inevitability of us getting a two-part banner for the new units, lol.
We’re also getting Ciella’s fight at around the start of next week, and they posted a preview video of the standard difficulty version of it. It seems like she inflicts a unique debuff called Vulnerability, so I’m really curious to see if I end up being correct with my previous theory about certain wind units getting debuff cleanse mechanics added via mana spiral upgrades. I think there’s at least one part in the video where Lowen heals the team and it doesn’t cleanse Vulnerability like it does with Plague, and it’d be a bit weird if you’re just meant to deal with having the debuff until it eventually wears off, so it’d be neat if they do introduce a new debuff cleanse mechanic.
Though tbh I can’t actually tell exactly what Vulnerability is meant to even do, since I don’t think it seemed to have a big impact on how much damage characters took, even though it definitely sounds like it’s meant to be a defense debuff or something. Either way, it’s probably going to be the central mechanic of Ciella’s fight, so hopefully we get tools to deal with it.
They only showed off the standard version of her fight so things will probably get more complex in expert, but it looks like her fight’s going to be built around making you move around a lot to dodge attacks. She seems to have various purple attacks, as well as homing attacks, and one move that seems to fire projectiles that bounce around the map. I don’t know how much this will really impact things, but it at least seems different to how relatively little you have to move around in Kai Yan.
It also looks like she might have unavoidable freeze-inflicting attacks, which might be interesting. They probably want you to use at least one freeze-res character. Which might not really diversify the meta much from where it is now, since Hawk has freeze res, but we’ll see how it goes.
We haven’t heard anything about us getting more wind mana spirals, but I’d be kinda surprised if we don’t get any more for this. In general wind is in a bit of an awkward spot, and if we don’t get more mana spirals for it soon, I feel like the Ciella meta is just going to be Tobias + Hawk [and maybe Lin You] again, if only just due to a lack of good options.
I’m also still really interested to see what the wind Agito weapon buffs end up being, and how much they might benefit certain characters. I think that a crit rate buff might be pretty nice, at least for characters like Ku Hai, but that sort of a buff probably wouldn’t help people like Lin You or DY-Xainfried much since they have crit rate buffs in their kits already. A crit damage buff could be interesting, but unless you’re playing as Lin You or have a DY-Xainfried on the team, it might not be as good as a crit rate buff.
Either way, I’m slowly getting a 0UB wind CT2 of each type just so I have all my options available to me, but I feel like the first wind Agito weapon I get will probably be a blade or wand, since I’ll probably end up using either Tobias, Noelle, or DY-Xainfried against Ciella most of the time. I do have a 70MC Lin You, though, so I might get an axe too.
We’ll see how it goes when the fight comes out, but I’m gonna assume that Ciella will probably be about as difficult as Kai Yan. Though since she doesn’t seem to have the same ‘you deal twice as much damage to the boss as you normally would for some reason’ mechanic as Kai Yan, and since wind is way less broken as an element than shadow as a whole, it’ll probably take a bit longer to clear. Though tbh I’m still like 100% expecting people to be able to clear it notably faster with full shadow teams than wind teams, so there’s that to consider, lol.
Anyway the main thing I’ve been thinking about recently is Gala Leif, who I’m still hoping against hope will come out at the end of next month.
It’s not like we know for sure he’s gonna ever be released at all, but with chapter 13 he’s officially joined Euden full-time, and he got a whole new redesign and 3D model to commemorate it, which really seems like blatant set-up for him getting a gala alt. Like how Sarisse has her NPC design, and a 3D model based on it for Melsa’s event, but then she got a new outfit and 3D model for her gala alt. Even Mym technically got her design tweaked a bit for her gala alt compared to her regular NPC artwork.
I wasn’t even sure at first if Leif got a new outfit for chapter 13 or if it was just a different pose, but it’s definitely a different outfit. Or, more accurately, it’s basically his old outfit but tweaked and redesigned to be more ornate and fancy and detailed, which is pretty telling. And I’m pretty sure his 3D model from the Void Poseidon fight was a new one based on his new outfit, which is also just even more additional design work to put into someone who’s currently just an NPC.
I heard that in chapter 9 he was basically given the same sort of internal coding as Albert [like how NPC Zethia in chapter 1 was apparently based on Hildegarde’s data], but I don’t really think he’s going to be a light unit, at least if he does end up as a gala unit. We already have Gala Euden as a gala light sword adventurer, and I don’t think they want to double up on that. I also feel like one way or another Leif is going to be fairly support-based, which would make him overlap with Gala Euden even more if he were a light sword. So I’m just hoping that doesn’t happen.
In the long run I think that his role in combat will be more relevant to the question of which units he’d overlap with, rather than his element/weapon combo. I mean, we could have a purely offensive gala light sword and they wouldn’t actually conflict too much with Gala Euden because they’d do different things. The various changes we’ve gotten to how co-abilities work, and the introduction of unique co-abilities, means it’s not really a big deal to have two units with the same weapon type in a team together so long as they do different things.
Which is also why I don’t want him to be a wind or water element sword unit, either. Gala Ranzal is [kind of] defense-oriented already, and also he just doesn’t deserve to get directly overshadowed by a hypothetical new gala wind sword, lol. And even though Gala Elly is a different weapon type, Leif would definitely conflict with her in practice if he was a support-oriented water unit.
Funnily enough I think him being a shadow element gala sword built around team buffs could work fine, and he wouldn’t really overlap with anyone aside from maybe Patia, but realistically I doubt we’ll get another gala shadow sword so soon after Gala Alex, no matter how different they might be in practice, lol.
So basically due to process of elimination I think I’d want him to be a gala flame sword. On the one hand the idea of a gala flame sword doesn’t really interest me at all, but honestly I think he could be surprisingly interesting and really shake things up if he’s support-oriented. Nearly all of the flame swords we have are pretty much entirely offensive, and nobody uses Karl even though he can technically be used as a support-based flame sword with the right set-up. So I honestly think that Leif could have his own relatively unique niche in the flame meta even if he ends up with such a common element/weapon combo.
There’s also the fact that Volk seems like it’s going to end up being the hardest Agito fight by a substantial degree, so I think it’d make sense to start introducing more flame units designed to let people break into that fight. And from what I know of the Volk meta [from having never actually played eVolk myself, lol], it seems pretty obvious that the big hole in the flame meta at the moment is how H-Lowen is basically the only accepted support unit, and he’s an entirely support-focused unit who does next to nothing to contribute to the team’s DPS. If eVolk and HMS didn’t have unavoidable damage and high difficulty in general, he’d probably lose his place in the meta, which I feel like is kinda already happening as a result of Hawk and Marth’s mana spirals. So I feel like what flame really needs right now, rather than more good DPS units or more good healers, is a support unit who can also contribute to team DPS.
So basically what I want is for Gala Leif to be like a mix of Tobias, Gala Elly, and T-Hope. If he wants to be an alternative/replacement to H-Lowen, he’s going to need at least SOME healing, on top of offensive/defensive buffs. I wouldn’t actually want him to have enough healing to straight up replace H-Lowen as a healer, but if he wants to be an alternative to him then he at least needs enough to deal with stuff like cleansing plague.
In general my basic idea of how I think his kit could work in order to fulfill that role is that he could have an S1 that has a big strength boost and a smaller defense boost [so like a reverse of Patia’s S1], and an ability/chain co-ability that gives Team Healing Doublebuff. Preferably on the level of 5% HP per tick instead of 1% HP per tick like with T-Hope. I think that’d basically be all that he needs to be able to work as a team support unit who can contribute to team DPS while also providing enough healing to deal with plague and recover people from unavoidable damage, even though he wouldn’t be as good of a generalist healer as H-Lowen.
For both Volk and HMS there’s also the issue of interfering with melee baiters, and needing to do ranged baiting for certain moves, so in spite of him being a sword unit, maybe they could give Gala Leif an S2 that gives him a ranged attack stance like Tobias, so he can let the melee units do their thing.
This is all just more or less baseless speculation, but this is just what I’m thinking they could do to address the fact that Volk is the hardest Agito fight, that the support role is the most exclusive and difficult role in that fight, that H-Lowen is basically dead weight DPS-wise who seems to slowly be losing his relevance in the face of 4DPS team comps, and that Emma has basically never been meta for Volk and has become way less important for HMS with how co-abilities work now. So introducing a new gala unit who provides fairly substantial team DPS buffs along with adequate healing seems like it’s exactly what the flame element needs right now. And considering that Gala Alex has poison and buff dispel it’s not exactly impossible that we could get a gala unit designed to work against Volk. It might make more sense for us to get a wind gala unit next to go against Ciella, but I still think that Ciella won’t be as hard as Volk, and wind also already has more in the way of viable support units than flame does at the moment.
The fact that our first gala dragon is also a flame one designed for DPS units, along with Marth getting a super powerful mana spiral, also just makes me think that they’re still trying to address the Volk meta and give people more options for it, so I think it’s reasonable to assume our next gala unit might be designed to address the support/defense part of the flame meta.
It’s worth noting, though, that I’m pretty sure Leif had some sort of team defense buff when he showed up in chapter 9, which is basically the main reason why I’m assuming he’d be a support/defense-based unit rather than an offensive one. Patia also ended up being a team support unit so it’d just make sense if he ended up being kinda similar, lol.
Anyway this was way too many words to just say that I want my boi to finally come home :v

Stejskal: FC Cincinnati unlikely to sign new Designated Player before 2019
Courtesy of FC Cincinnati
November 13, 20189:35AM EST
Despite indicating otherwise over the summer, it’s unlikely that FC Cincinnati will sign another Designated Player before they begin MLS play next year.
FCC president and GM Jeff Berding and technical director Luke Sassano told MLSsoccer.com shortly after Cincinnati acquired DP striker Fanendo Adi from Portland in July that the incoming expansion club intended to sign at least one more DP before they moved into MLS in 2019.
Sassano and head coach Alan Koch walked that back last week. The duo told MLSsoccer.com that it’s unlikely that Cincinnati, who set the USL regular season points record before being bounced by New York Red Bulls II in the second-round of the USL Cup Playoffs on Oct. 28, will sign another DP this winter. It was recently reported by Yahoo Sports that Cincinnati were close to a deal to sign US international Fabian Johnson to a DP deal this summer before talks fell through.
“At this stage, I’d say probably not,” Koch said. “We’ve put a lot of work into building something and I think our club philosophy is to be as fiscally responsible as possible. We do go case by case, of course, and we know we’ve got a lot of business ahead of us, but if you’re asking me right now, I’d say probably not, no.”
“As a club we’re always open to seeing what type of players would be available for the winter. But we also understand that when you do sign a DP, there has to be a certain amount of research and timing that goes into it when you’re talking about that kind of investment,” added Sassano. “So, I wouldn’t anticipate that we’re going to bring another one this winter. We’ve had a lot of great conversations, there’s always possibilities, but I would agree with Alan’s sentiment.”
The new tack is part of a broader strategy that will emphasize continuity and cohesion over big splashes in the transfer market. Sassano and Koch said that Cincinnati expect to bring “eight to 10” players from their 2018 USL roster with them to MLS next season. That number includes Adi and Fatai Alashe, who was acquired in a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes on the same day of the Adi deal. The club also has an option to permanently acquire left back Pa Konate, who was acquired on loan from Serie A club SPAL in August and has experience in the UEFA Champions League and with the Swedish national team.
Even if those three are excluded from the count, however, that projected number is higher than what Minnesota and Orlando brought with them during their recent transitions from the lower divisions to MLS. Other players who will reportedly move with FCC to MLS include midfielders Emmanuel Ledesma, Jimmy McLaughlin and Corben Bone as well as defender Forrest Lasso.
Koch and Sassano know they’ll have to add talent above their USL holdovers, several of whom Koch said are already signed to MLS deals that the club is waiting to announce, but they’re hopeful that the group will provide stability on and off the field during what will be a hectic transition into MLS.
“We know we have to bring in better players that will come in to make us better as a group. For us to be successful in MLS, we have to be significantly better than we were this year and that’s why we’ve worked so hard to bring in the right players,” said Koch. “But I think it’s important to maintain the culture. I think the last two years we’ve really grown something very special here, and I think it’d be pretty disrespectful just to brush that aside. So, we will keep a small core so we can continue to build on the mentality and the understanding of the philosophy.”
It’s unlikely they’ll shell out huge cash for any signings this winter, but Cincinnati certainly aren’t putting any geographic restrictions on their talent search. The club have one of the bigger scouting staffs in MLS, and Sassano, Koch and their deputies have been racking up the frequent flyer miles for the past few weeks. Koch returned from a week-long trip to Europe last Thursday and headed out on another international trip on Monday; head of scouting Jorge Alvial, formerly of Atlanta United, Sporting KC, Chelsea and, most recently, Manchester United, was just in South America; Sassano hit several different continents during the USL season and confirmed that the club continues to look in Germany for new signings.
Cincinnati plan to end up with around 25 players on their season-opening roster, and they’d like to have about 90 percent of their squad secured by the time preseason opens in late January. Sassano anticipates that the club will have “full function” of the $ 2.8 million in discretionary Targeted Allocation Money allowed to each MLS club in addition to the $ 1.2 million in mandatory TAM given to each team.
They’re also talking with other MLS clubs about trades ahead of the Dec. 11 Expansion Draft, in which they’ll make five picks from the unprotected lists of the 18 MLS clubs who will participate in the draft. Sassano said FCC are considering promising teams they won’t select any of their players in the Expansion Draft as part of the compensation package in any potential trades.
Cincinnati have also hired several liaisons to help onboard players, an area that has been a problem for past expansion teams. With 14-16 new players likely coming to the club this winter, FCC want to make their transition to Ohio as smooth as possible so that they can worry less about getting settled off the field and focus more on coming together on it.
“We’re trying to be on the cusp of doing things a little bit differently and trying to maximize our resources,” Sassano said. “I think going through that whole process this year opened our eyes to what type of player we would bring to Cincinnati and how clever we would have to be to find, source and then sign those players.”
With the club unlikely to sign any new big guns this winter, things like effective onboarding and finding good value in the transfer market will be particularly important for FCC. The margins are slim for MLS teams that don’t spend in the top tier. They’re slimmer still for expansion teams that don’t shell out major cash. Cincinnati know that, and they’re looking ahead to 2019 accordingly.
“I think we have to be realistic. I think this year we’ve come in and flexed our muscles a little bit in the USL. I think we’ve grown and we will continue to grow, but we’ll be the new kids on the block next year with a very fiscally sound budget,” Koch said. “This is not a sprint, this is a marathon. We want to be as competitive as we can out of the gate, and like every team, our goal should be to make the playoffs. But we need to be very realistic as we continue to build this. You go one game at a time, you give it your best shot and you see how the cards fall into place.”

This is one of those questions where if you ask three different SEO professionals, you’ll get at least three different answers.
There isn’t an easy answer for this, but there are some things you should keep in mind when determining what strategy works for you.
Usability
I’m always a fan of user-centric SEO. So if there’s ever a way to provide all of the color combinations possible in the same page (using a dropdown menu and JavaScript or something similar), I’m always a fan of that.
If you’re selling something like T-shirts, for example, people probably want to know what colors that particular style is available in and are less likely to search for [purple scoop neck tee].
However, there are situations where users are color-centric.
For example, if I’m searching for a pair of shoes to match a dress I’m wearing to an awards banquet, I’m likely to search something like [emerald green heels].
In that case, it’s important to come up in search results for your emerald green heels.
So the first step is to consider if your product is one where specific colors are important to user happiness.
Duplication of Effort
The second concern you should consider is duplication of effort.
Consider how much effort it would take to write custom copy for each color of each product and consider the possible return on that investment of time and resources.
Do you have unlimited resources and you just want to do everything you can to rank well? Maybe it’s worth it to you to write custom copy for each color.
But also consider that for each individual page you create, you must maintain that page. It adds server load, maintenance needs, and extra pages you have to update or redirect if you redesign or discontinue that product.
Consider how it impacts your shipping operation. Does each color already have its own SKU?
Ultimately it may be a business decision as to whether each color should have its own page.
Content Duplication
The third concern you have to take into consideration is duplication in search engines.
If you have three different colors of an item, it’s probably feasible to write specific content for each one so that search engines aren’t seeing duplicated content.
However, if you sell something like candy melts, where there can be over 300 different colors, it’s much less feasible (and useful) to write that much specific content even though it’s an item where people probably want specific colors.
If you do a search for something like “blue candy melts” you can see that merchants do this in different ways:
Amazon, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Wilton-Blue-Candy-Melts-oz/dp/B006ZZQTHC?th=1 has a blue candy melt page where you can switch to another color without leaving the page. The URL doesn’t change, and you never even encounter a specific page for the other color, although it exists.
This is an example of using JavaScript for the user experience while having multiple pages. If you did a search for a different color candy melt, you would be taken to that specific color page.
Party City does it differently: https://www.partycity.com/r/wilton-blue-candy-melts-267195.html. They have a color selector on the page, but when you select another color, the whole page reloads to the other color page, like this: https://www.partycity.com/r/wilton-royal-blue-candy-melts-595444.html#swatch.
The content on both sites is almost identical except for switching out the color name in the content:
Make your own colorful, delectable treats with Wilton Blue Candy Melts! Easily melted in the microwave or fondue pot, Candy Melts have a succulent vanilla flavor…
Make your own colorful, delectable treats with Wilton Royal Blue Candy Melts! Easily melted in the microwave or fondue pot, Candy Melts have a succulent vanilla flavor…
It’s pretty obvious to me that Google probably doesn’t care about this duplication.
Remember, Google dislikes duplication when it’s used to artificially inflate the value of multiple pages. When it’s honest duplication that is just part of doing business, they don’t seem to care that much.
However, it’s possible that writing color specific content would help you rank better, so it’s something you may want to try, either on all the colors of one or two products or on a handful of popular colors for one product.
Consider What Google Can Really Crawl
The final challenge is that the goal posts on this issue are always moving.
Google finds new and better ways to identify individual products, and web technology continues to advance in terms of how much you can show on a single page.
Remember, even five years ago, this wouldn’t even be a question, because an in-page color picker didn’t exist.
As schema markup advances and search engines are more able to crawl AJAX content, I wouldn’t be surprised if they become able to parse individualized content for each product within a single page.
To be clear on this though, Google claims to be able to do this already, but I’ve tested it and have not seen it work. Several of my colleagues have tested this too and say it’s like parallax scrolling – a nice idea for usability, but really hard to get Google to fully crawl. So my recommendation is to stay away from any highly complex coding like that for now.
Ultimately until the technology improves, whether to have separate pages or separate content for individual colors of products remains primarily a business decision.
Think about all the elements discussed in this post, and make the decision that works best for you and your business.
