christmas shopping

Alright, so I know Christmas passed and all, but I thought I'd share this old work anyway to serve as both posting writing and also as a mini-announcement here!

I received two requests already, so thank you for your support, even though it's been a long time! I'm working on the first one already, although it's looking really rough, ahaha. I won't close requests yet since there's only two.

This work is actually from November 2020, if you can believe it, but I never posted it because a.) it felt unfinished and b.) I had actually intended to write it as a birthday present for Solar @\solarwhisper. But I never finished it and felt sorry about it, so it was never sent or posted... Anyway, this is a Kokichi x Reader (PG) short one-shot!

“Wake up! Wake up!”

You feel an overbearing pressure on your midriff as you try to get your bearings, still half-asleep and wanting to go back to sleep, wrapped in fluffy blankets. Your eyes slowly peel open a crack, and a familiar silhouette comes into view.

“...Kokichi?” You mumble and shut your eyes again. “What are you doing?”

You can almost see his grin as he laughs and shakes you ruthlessly. You’re not sure when you last became close enough with Kokichi to be shaken as he sits on you or when Kokichi even managed to get into your room, but you’re not too concerned. It’s Kokichi, after all. Now, if only you could get back to sleep…

“No, no going back to sleep!” Small, not to mention cold, hands pat your cheeks repeatedly. “It’s time to wake up! Come on, lazybones. It’s already 10 am. We have places to go, things to do, people to see!”

You grumble discontentedly and unsuccessfully attempt to roll over on your bed. Kokichi is too heavy for you to do so, even if he’s a tiny boy. All you end up achieving is turning your face to the side.

“Leave me alone. I didn’t make any plans with you. I need my sleep. I was up late doing work…”

Then, you hear him sniff quietly. Uh-oh. Disaster number one was about to head your way. In a flash, you shoot upright and slap a hand over his open mouth just as he’s preparing to let loose a piercing wail that you were sure your neighbors would hear. You glare at him as his purple eyes stare back, seemingly smug despite how firmly your hand was clapped over his mouth. That mouth could do horrible, horrible things, and it wasn’t restricted to only telling lies and emitting sonic cries. You weren’t keen on finding out what else it could do.

“Enough! I’m awake. What do you want, Kokichi?”

You let your hand fall from his mouth and instead cover your own as you yawn sleepily. Kokichi huffs as he sits with his legs resting over yours. The bedding does nothing to lessen the impact of him weighing on you, and you reach over, gracelessly pushing him off of you.

“Using brute force this early in the morning?” he pouts, but he looks positively delighted as his purple eyes sparkle brightly. “Anyway, now that you’re awake, don’t tell me you forgot all about the promise we made to go Christmas shopping together for gifts!”

You frown, yawning yet again.

“I didn’t make any promise to go Christmas shopping with you.”

Kokichi’s eyes grow big and wet, and he purses his lips indignantly.

“You forgot! We promised, we really did. You said you’d help me look for Christmas gifts this season because I can never find good gifts. I’m usually too busy carrying out my Ultimate Supreme Leader duties, after all,” he asserts.

You shake your head adamantly.

“I didn’t promise you anything.”

He knocks himself on the head with a fist, making a silly expression with a wink and sticking out his tongue.

“Whoopsie! I mean, maybe that was a little white lie but…” He suddenly has his arm hooked around yours. “Now we have a promise! Go Christmas shopping with me today, alright?” He points at your calendar, which is chaotically hanging askew on a tiny hook on the right wall of your room. “You don’t have anything today! You’re free all day,” he sings triumphantly.

You have the urge to promptly kick him out, but instead you pinch the bridge of your nose to mitigate your incoming headache.

“It’s like that because I planned today to rest,” you emphasize the last word, hoping to get through to him. “I need this day to be free, or I won't survive the rest of the week.”

But he doesn’t give in.

“Going Christmas shopping with me is like being free,” he claims proudly without a shred of guilt, a barefaced lie. “You’ll have so much fun you’ll forget all about all your worries and stress. Come on,” he begs with shining eyes.

How did his eyes sparkle like that? Did god sprinkle glitter in Kokichi’s eyes when he made Kokichi? You brush away your thoughts and try to get back to the topic at hand.

“Yeah… No.” You send him a disapproving look. “I know you’ll drag me to every store and tire me out before lunch, and then make me carry all your bags for you as you run around the place without a care in the world.”

“Aww, how did you know?” he sulks. “Still, it has to be you. Gonta’s good for carrying things, but not much else. And Shuichi has zero stamina, so he’ll be tired after we go to maybe two stores. Plus, there’s no way I could convince anyone else to come with me. Maybe Kaede, but I’ll probably get a life lesson and lecture if I have her come with me.”

You stare at him, trying to figure out what his motive was, anyway.

“Are you seriously just asking me to go Christmas shopping with you? Nothing else? What do you want from me, anyway? I’m not as strong as Gonta, and I doubt I can give as much advice on gifts as Shuichi or Kaede.”

He just grins and puts a finger to his lips playfully.

“Hm, I wonder? What do I want from you?” He jumps off your bed sprightly and skips to the door. “Anyway, be out of your room in ten. We’re going to the mall!”

Before you can object another time, he goes out and shuts the door, leaving you alone with your thoughts and an unfortunate time restriction that gives you little time to tidy yourself up. Sighing, you clamber out of your bed, resigned, and start sifting through your clean clothes. It was going to be a long day with Kokichi at your side.

Even so, you can’t deny he’d indeed sparked your curiosity, and when it came to satiating it, Kokichi never disappointed. Excitement simmered in your chest just below the surface of your weariness. There was something to look forward to, even if you weren’t sure what it was yet. And boy, was it something.

Another Great Idea From Yours Truely

So basically imagine a ghost au of Danganronpa V3 except with the twist that Shuichi can see the ghosts (shocking I know)

So basically it goes like Shuichi became the Ultimate Detective because the ghost of the person who died told him everything they knew and Shuichi (still clever as hell don’t get me wrong) just put the rest of the pieces together and was like ‘hey uh. It was that guy right?’ And everybody lost their bananas

And so he became the Ultimate Detective wHICH IS WHY HE DOESNT THINK HE DESERVES HIS ULTIMATE ITS BECAUSE HE WAS PRACTICALLY HANDED THE ANSWER ON A SILVER PLATTER

And with the first murder he asks Rantaro like ‘hey who killed you?’ and unfortunately Rantaro was too confused with his sudden death know shit so he has to go the normal route of Sleuthing to figure it out (or maybe Rantaro knew something but not quite enough to change anything due to ✨plot convenience✨)

Kaede is a ghost now (do I see a ghostly figure playing Claire De Lune?) and probably apologizes to Rantaro and he kinda half-forgives her because he understands where she’s coming from but like. Bruh

But then come Chapter 2 (Electric Boogaloo) he meets Ryoma’s ghost (maybe even before they find the body if you’re feeling ~spicy~) and he’s like ‘alright who killed you’ and Ryoma like knows but he would probably be like ‘hah I got what I wanted, I’m not telling you shit’ which would be very annoying

But that would be yet another excuse to keep things on track, so not much changes (because Rantaro and Kaede are probably following Shuichi around so they wouldn’t know more than him) and Kirumi dies and does nOT in fact apologize because that would be a ✨lie✨ (and boy aren’t we fond of those)

Now this is where things may or may not start getting off the road paved for us; Ryoma will probably stay depressed and look for a way to die again (maybe idk? Let me know if I’m getting his character absolutely wrong it’s been a while) but Kirumi could go two ways. Either she could 1) stay in the crazed state she was driven to in the trial or 2) see reason and chill tf out

If 1, she’ll probably go in a similar enough route as Ryoma where she’s trying to get out of the confines of the killing game, possess someone, or die again so she can reincarnate (or something, etc etc, I’m spitballing here) meaning she won’t be useful to Shuichi finding the killers.

Conversely, 2; she will chill out and help Shuichi with stuff he asks of her (staking places out, haunting people in because they’re likely to be murdered or murder, see who leaves their dorms at night, etc, still spitballing) and maybe help find a killer or two!

Either way, Angie dies and she’d probably be a bit miffed that she wasn’t able to meet Atua just yet but she’s chill so she’d probably assume it’s part of Atua’s Plan or smth idk

Although she’d probably know it was Korekiyo who killed her, which would make keeping things on track hard (if you wanna do that I probably shouldn’t assume huh) so Shuichi might know to stop the whole ‘let’s go in a room with the murderer with the lights off’ thing and keep Tenko from dying.

Lmao Korekiyo is all like ‘hey let’s talk to the ghost!’ And then Rantaro is just like ‘ah yes, Shuichi, let’s talk to the ghost’ and Shuichi is somewhere between laughing and crying because HA THATS GOOD THATS A GOOD ONE BUD but also GODDAMMIT AVOCADO MAN SHUT UP YOU’RE DEAD

So now Angie’s dead, Tenko might be alive if you chose that route, but Korekiyo is definitely dead. But how dead?

This might sound stupid because ‘Loveless, you dumbass, you idiot, he’s dead what do you mean’ well shUT UP I HAVE AN EXPLANATION TO MY CONFUSION

So part of Korekiyo’s execution is that he died and turned into a ghost, makes sense, no confusion there— BUT THEN HE GETS SALTED INTO DEATH AGAIN. So like… maybe his ghost is just. Not around. Hell you could even take this as Monokuma’s warning that Shuichi is on the thinnest of fucking ice.

So, currently, we have:

Rantaro: dead and ghost, follows Shuichi

Kaede: dead and ghost, follows Shuichi

Ryoma: dead and ghost, depressed (might have used the salting method to die again? Your choice but hey)

Kirumi: dead and ghost, insane/helpful (if insane maybe used salt?)

Angie: dead and ghost, chillin

Tenko: dead and ghost, follows Himiko OR alive- your choice your problem idk man 🤷

Korekiyo: dead. Very Dead.

And hey if you make Tenko die, you can have Shuichi console Himiko with words taken directly from Tenko’s ghostly mouth :)

(Lmao this is sadder then I thought it would be)

Okay and with this next one things get REALLY REAL (heheheheehhehehehhehe)

So the Neo World Program is like technology. And ghosts are known to screw with technology. Food for thought your choice your problem heheh :)

Anyway since ghosts can’t follow you into VR the ones that follow people would just be waiting like dogs at the door (hey that’s a good expression heck yeah) and so they would notice Miu dying and might try to like. Make Shuichi colder or something so he realizes something’s up and heads out. And since Shuichi’s smart he’ll figure out by maybe the second or third chill down his spine

Anyway Miu’s a petty bitch so she’ll snitch with no hesitation, even before Shuichi asks, which you might think won’t change much BUT WAIT

When Kokichi tells then it was Gonta obviously Shuichi would have a reaction of surprise, but Kokichi is smart so he’ll be able to tell it wasn’t a ‘what?! Gonta?!’ kind of surprise, but instead a ‘wait he’s telling the truth??’ kind of surprise. He may not say anything but he’ll know

Ahem anywho Gonta dies and is super mopey and sad and apologizes profusely to Miu (who doesn’t forgive him even though she was the one planning a murder first) and he might even feel bad enough that he like hides away somewhere to train to become a better gentleman or something.

AND HOO BOY THIS NEXT ONE COULD BE WILD IF YOU WANT IT TO

So uh. Starts off with Kokichi saying he’s the mastermind and Shuichi calling bullshit, of course.

But when they discover the body (body more like bloody ha gotem), Shuichi will make eye contact with Kokichi and Kokichi would probably ✨freak out✨ because this was not part of the plan

So he’ll just like shush Shuichi and maybe explain the whole plan(? I mean I think he would but it’s your choice I guess) and so basically you are now given the option to have Kokichi and Kaito’s plan actually work!! Your choice as to what happens after that but Kaito will still die due to his illness and Tsumugi might die still but uh. You get to keep Kiibo and maybe Tenko so that counts as a win right?

Might write more than this later just give me several hours days months weeks? Yeah that sounds right

Genre: Fluff.

Reader: Gender Neutral.

Kyoko

I think that Kyoko would make a pretty great pair! Just think about it! Ultimate Detective and Ultimate Historian? A match made in heaven!

At first, it might be hard for you to talk with Kyoto's stoic expression and what you think at first to have a cold personality. However, once you get to know her you learn she just doesn't show emotion all that much. She cares a lot about what you have together!

I think it would be a lot of fun for you and Kyoto to talk about famous unknown killers and famous unknown unsolved cases. Who knows? Maybe with both of you working together, you'll solve them!

I think a great way for you and Kyoko to spend time together would be to visit museums! As the Ultimate Historian, you tell Kyoko more about anything in the museum. Than the information they have on display to demonstrate your talent!

Mukuro

Another character that I think you would make a pretty good pair with! I just think that the talent of the Ultimate Historian and Ultimate Solider would go pretty well together.

Unlike Kyoko who would be interested in almost everything you have to tell her. I think that Mukuro would be curious about famous wars and battles recorded throughout history. You don't mind telling her you are just more than happy that she's interested!

Mukuro would be interested in how battles and wars were won and the tactics that lead would lead to victory. After all, she's a soldier herself so anything you tell her could help her a lot! Even if they aren't the best of people...Mukuro would be interested in what the leaders of these battles were like.

Mukuro likes listening to your voice it calms her a lot whenever you talk. She liked learning about what you told her so that was always her favorite part of the day.

Ibuki

Honestly, this girl probably won't have the slightest idea what you're talking about most of the time. To your surprise but not to her surprise she's failing history class...

So of course you help her study! She appreciates it since history isn't one of her best classes. Of course, she'll ask if the both of you can do your homework together.

It might be a little overwhelming to get used to Ibuki and her antics. She's a very friendly person and can be very loud at times although that doesn't surprise you considering her talent...but you at heart she's a good person and soon warm up and feel comfortable around her.

It might be pretty embarrassing but I could see Ibuki doing something like this. She appreciates your help and is very happy about it! So I could see her boasting loudly about her talented and knowledgeable her S/O is.

Kirumi

Another person who I think would be a great pair! Although because of her talent, you might not think so at first. But she likes how passionate you can be.

Now and then Kirumi surprise you with historical facts that even you didn't know! It makes you very happy as you can talk about history with her and learn new things.

I think Kirumi is very easy to approach and talk with. So while you may have trouble talking with others. You have the easiest time talking with Kirumi since she's very friendly and a calm person.

Now Kirumi is the prime minister of Japan so because of that. I think that Kirumi could give you access to a lot of historical information that isn't easily available. It's something that makes you happy so she doesn't mind getting access to the information for you.

Mondo is there for you of course, admittedly a bit awkward at comforting but will absolutely offer to beat the shit out of your ex for hurting you, even if it was mutual… still! Pretty understanding though, breakups are tough.

Ishimaru is awkward at comforting as well, but he wants to be there for you! You mean so much to him, he will refuse to leave your side. He never wants you to be sad, especially alone. He does whatever you ask of him, unless it’s leaving you alone lmao.

Sakura helps you through your heartache to the best of her ability, she takes you out to eat at your favorite place, and perhaps takes you somewhere fun like the movies or perhaps somewhere else. If you don’t feel like leaving, training with her as a distraction is what she’ll do as well.

Toko is familiar with this kinda heartbreak, all too familiar. She has been rejected and lied to so many times, so she completely understands and feels sympathy. She will absolutely go to your exes house and show him what for. Other than that, she’s awkward at comforting, opts for distracting you with movies.

Mahiru spends time with you, she’s a good listener so she will gladly listen to you talk about your sadness and frustrations. Breakups are hard and she is good at comforting you and letting you know it’s not your fault.

Peko doesn’t know much about romantic relationships, so she feels she wouldn’t be much assistance. However, she tries to be there for you in your time of need, she’s still awkward with comforting and would deal with your ex if you allowed her to.

Ibuki cannot imagine the pain you are going through right now! She tries to distract you from it by making you laugh with jokes, and she even has you help her with her next songs and plays you some music as well. She’s all ears, and a good listener as well.

Hiyoko is bad at comforting, but she will totally talk shit about your ex for making you sad! Regardless of whether or not it was a mutual breakup or one that ended with no hard feelings. In her eyes you deserve better, she tries to help you forget about the person.

Mikan feels horrible that you have to go through such a thing, she’s not the most experienced with comforting others so she tells you she’ll do whatever you want, however she may suggest some… unholy things because she’s been traumatized. She tries her best to be helpful though!

Nekomaru decides the best way to deal with a breakup is to train with him to help you strengthen your body and your mind! As well as being a good distraction! It will also make you more confident the more fit you become and he tells you things to try and keep you positive!

Gundham is another one that is rather awkward with comfort and would rather distract you from your situation. Thankfully, the four dark devas of destruction shall do fine if you are in need of comfort that much! Otherwise, he will plan some different things for the two of you to spend time together.

Nagito will probably find the person that broke up with you himself and have a personal talk with them, you’re the most hopeful person he knows and to find out somebody had the audacity to try and shatter your hope is unforgivable in his eyes and must be dealt with. Other than that, he’s actually good at comforting and distracting you.

Chiaki distracts you through video games. She also tries to remind you of any positive things that came out of the relationship, perhaps it’s the good times you had, perhaps the ex helped you make a lot of friends or even made you a better person, if they were bad to you however, she reminds you that at least you know what kinda person you want in your next relationship.

Akane doesn’t date often enough to get this heartbreak crap, but she does care about you. She’s happy to train with you and get you to punch out your feelings and encourages you to be more pissed about it than sad. She hates seeing you sad.

Fuyuhiko will gladly deal with your ex himself and get peko in the mix if he has to. If you insist it’s fine he won’t push, but he is there for you. He understands to an extent and he hates to see you sad and he will do anything to make sure you feel even a little bit better.

Souda hates seeing you so upset! He spends a lot of time with you and tries to get you to have more fun and distract yourself from it. He tries to make you laugh with his horrible jokes, and probably invites some friends to help you out as well.

Rantaro let’s you talk about it and vent your frustrations. He’s not familiar with that kinda heartbreak himself but he’s an understanding guy and he’s good at making you feel better as well, and tries to make you laugh a bit.

Kaede probably distracts you by having you play piano with her, if you’re okay with it. She listens to you vent as well, and she tries to keep you in a positive headspace. There are more people out there.

Angie tries to keep you in a positive headspace as well! She hates to see you sad! She tells you that Atua has plans for you! This was meant to happen, because one day you will fall in love with somebody much better for you, with the knowledge you learnt from that relationship.

Miu can be a bit mean, making fun of you for being sad over a dumb breakup. But when she realizes it’s serious she cuts it out and tries to help you. She distracts you and probably gives you some self love treatment with some makeovers with cute outfits and if you’re comfortable then makeup and shit.

Gonta feels horrible that you’re so sad! He’s there for you, and he is not leaving your side until you’re feeling better! He’s there with you through it all, and he’s very comforting! It helps that he’s honest, even with the lack of experience he has, having fun with gonta is an easy distraction.

Kokichi distracts you with jokes and teasing, and perhaps stealing your stuff. He thinks you chasing him around and being mad at him is a good enough distraction from your breakup. He’s also comforting, but in a roundabout way.

RE danganronpa not having the best writing I was talking to a friend the other day about v3 about how it sucks that they set up Kaede to be the protagonist but then killed her off because while yes, Shuichi is a very good protagonist and he’s the only one that really gets interesting character development, Kaede could have so easily been an insanely interesting protagonist if she got to live because she has plenty of room to grow since she’s very clearly scared shitless and is deeply insecure about her ability to motivate and lead the group, but she smiles through it and lies about her feelings so much that the player doesn’t even know about her creating an elaborate murder scheme. And I realized that the way to keep her as a protagonist is for there to be a way that the first trial ends and someone else is found to be the killer (for example it could be Tsumugi if she weren’t the mastermind, or maybe someone else was in the library and killed Rantaro) and they get executed and thats that. Then at the end of the chapter we get a scene where Kaede is alone in her room and sighs in relief as it’s revealed that she hatched an elaborate plan to kill the mastermind but she wasn’t found guilty, either because she wasn’t the actual killer or because she was being protected by the mastermind. And so we the player have to proceed with the new knowledge that Kaede not only wanted to kill someone, she actually went through with a whole plan to kill someone and we didn’t even know about it and neither did any of the characters. And Kaede is on edge because on one hand she has to live with the fact that she was perfectly okay becoming a killer and that she failed to kill the mastermind so the game is going to continue and someone else was unlucky and got executed instead of her,but on the other hand she’s relieved that she wasn’t the one who died and that she was given another chance to find the true mastermind and no one has to know what she did. And as the game progresses it gets more and more stressful for her because she tries to keep up the positive energy but she’s living with this massive secret and she can’t let anyone find out about what she did and she finds herself still wanting to kill the mastermind so we the player don’t know how much we can trust Kaede anymore since she’s lying to everyone including us and she can very well kill again if she wants to

#danganronpa #kaede akamatsu #of course we couldnt have something like this happen cuz yay misogyny killed kaede and also like mentioned #dr doesnt have good enough writing to pull this off lol #yttd is at least able to pull something similar off with sara so at least i have that but still god like can you IMAGINE #how good v3 wouldve been if it had done this and like what i think is really fun is like #shuichi figuring it out cuz you know he would hed know in the first trial but in this version doesnt say anything #and he doesnt have to cuz kaede conveniently isnt the culprit #but like now hes stuck with this knowledge that she so easily couldve been #and you know shuichi is just like that last person shed want to know about this #but shed also be eaten alive by guilt from keeping it from him cuz she trusts him most and was the one encouraging him to pursue the truth #even if its unpleasant #so i like to imagine one of two scenarios like either shuichi eventually confronts kaede about this after shes become a bit more corrupt #and he plans to tell and shes forced to kill him to keep her secret #or a scenario where shuichi chooses to protect kaede over the truth and he becomes her accomplice #both scenarios would fuck up kaede quite a bit #and then i guess itd be really interesting to see if she becomes more and more corrupt and eventually does get executed #or if she owns up to her mistakes and decides to reveal her truth that shes actually fucking terrified #and she doesnt have as much control as she wants to and she has no clue if its gonna be okay #i think that would fit so good with the truth/lie theme too #goddddd like im so mad now cuz this is just like so good like why cant dr just be good its so easy

I am once again... forced... to answer an ask with.... Well I have multiple Self Inserts for that Fandom you see... and I'm very bad at choosing anything ever so we're just gonna talk about all of them and here's my half finished redesign of all of them just to have in one place

📖 - What is your s/i's backstory? How does it make them meet your f/o(s)?

Danganronpa 1 and 2's S/Is are twin brothers who together make the Ultimate Collector, in a canon timeline only one of them gets into Hope's Peak, in my happy school life AU they both get in. V1 joins class 78 and during his school life there starts the anime Club with Hifumi and Celeste. V2 joins class 77 and mostly stays isolated from everyone until Teruteru takes an interest in him and starts talking to him.

In UDG V2 takes the place of Komaru, having escaped his room first and running into Byakuya, acquiring his gun, and eventually running into Toko

For DRV3 I'm still very eeeeeeeh on how exactly the story goes, what I consider the truth vs lies, and just how I want my rewrite to go, so everything about The Ultimate Baseball Star V2 is pretty undecided. He seems to bond with Ryoma over some pretty heavy criminal charges, however.

💌 - Any major changes in your selfship lore over time?

Oooh yeah, lots. Especially to V3 as mentioned above it's hard in WIP territory and has been for a WHILE but that's mostly because V3 is a VERY weird game.

Other than that, as time has passed I've cared a lot LESS about DR2's killing game and have basically written all of Collector V2's lore around my Happy School Life AU or UDG.

The only one who hasn't changed story wise is V1, but she HAS gone through a LOT of design changes. She was originally a lot more geisha styled, lots of make-up and such, and has sense become more calm Decora and Cluttercore

🗺️ - If your s/i is used for multiple f/os, how would all the timelines look if displayed together?

V3′s ending really burned me so bad i don’t know if i even want to play Rain Code when it comes out. and that really sucks because i would have been overjoyed waiting for this game pre-2017. like is this what you wanted Kodaka? you killed Danganronpa in the worst way because you were sick of it, okay fine i guess, but now you have another murder mystery-esque game and im supposed to be excited for it....?

i still don’t understand why he couldn’t have given v3 a ““normal”” ending instead of basically shitting on the fans with the meta BS. you don’t want to keep making games to answer questions left unanswered... okay? then answer all the questions now? don’t end it on a cliffhanger? i don’t get it. i don’t know who had a gun to kodaka’s head to keep making danganronpa games/content but i would have much rather had a “satisfying” conclusion to the series- and if asked for more games he could be like “No. i’m done.” instead of making it confusing/insulting on purpose to annoy fans into not wanting the games anymore...

i get it fans can be annoying fans can be awful but i just dont want that as part of the in-game world?

i know its his series and he can do whatever he wants with it, clearly, but i can still be bummed that my favorite series was ruined by its own creator, and ruin any excitement i had for it/stuff similar to it

I think a lot about a post-game scenario where the v3 survivors have essentially been isekaied into a normal world where their lives as they remember them are entirely fiction, but also. Wouldn't it be fucking hysterical in a simulation post game where Tsumugi is the one who has been literally isekaied instead?

Hear me out, in ch6 when she's explaining how everything was scripted by team DR, including their talents and backstories, this is all because in her world Danganronpa WAS fiction. She somehow swapped places with the Tsumugi who was lying about it for the sake of despair. The end of the game happens and she *wakes up* and is now in a world where Danganronpa actually IS real and she's now at the mercy of the future foundation. All the characters she was obsessed with are real and they hate her guts. COULD YOU IMAGINE?

I wish Spike Chunsoft would just go full "Persona" with Danganronpa and milk it with tons of spinoffs.

I'd be there for every goddamn one of them on DAY ONE, you know. Pick your genre! The minute they figured out how to make a decent third-person DR action game with Ultra Despair Girls, that should've opened the floodgates wide IMO. In fact, if you take any given Persona spinoff, I can tell you how easily/naturally they could develop (and I could get super-hyped for) a Danganronpa equivalent.

Danganronpa Arena is SO obvious. It's the MOST obvious spinoff, and it has been sitting there waiting to be creating for seven goddamn years now. Ever since Kodaka said he wants a DR fighting game. Hey, remember that official DR3 Staff Book art that showed Nanami dreaming about it? Many of us have shared fan ideas for the story and/or for character moves. COME ON, y'all. What's the holdup?? DO IT! DO IT NOW!

Danganronpa: Dancing? FUCK YAS. I mean, there's already some wicked dance remixes of the game soundtracks in that Crypt of the Necrodancer DR content, so why the hell not?? And I recall that @dreamrlu did some great fanart (1) for how the (2) V3 crew could dress (3).

Danganronpa Q, a dungeon crawler? Despair Dungeon already exists, so it's COMPLETELY NATURAL. It's just a higher-quality production of that same concept! And if you haven't seen that fanmade version of the first "Persona Q" opening where it's the casts of DR1 and DR2 meeting up? It's AMAZING.

Danganronpa Tactica? Imagine leading squads from the Future Foundation (including DR1 and DR3 cast members) in missions against remaining Remnants of Despair. I've been playing a lot of tactical RPGs lately, and there's a lot of room to tell a ton of story in this format... plus it's not like you even have to make complex graphics to make it work, so SC doesn't have to worry about struggling with 3D renders if they don't want to. Just consider how Digimon Survive pulled this off with 2D sprite art!

Danganronpa Strikers is, uh, maybe the hardest to justify — but if you set it in the virtual world, that could make it easy! Since Danganronpa S already took place entirely in VR and contained a load of combat encounters, why the hell not do a similar setup for an action game? And if you prefer to keep in the real world, there are still a number of characters I could easily justify making playable in such a scenario — Genocide(r), Sakura, Asahina, Mondo, Nekomaru, Peko, Akane, Great Gozu, Seiko, Munakata, Maki, Gonta, etc. I can even picture some more-unlikely candidates such as Kimura slotting into the roster. I don't even like musou games that much, but ofc I'd play the SHIT out of this one.

Look: I know I'm an insatiable fan who just wants more precious content with these characters. But you can't convince me that these things wouldn't also SELL. The brand reached new heights of awareness and sales with V3, and they haven't really capitalized on that at all aside from giving us "Danganronpa S." We haven't even gotten a new anime since DR3, FFS! And I'm confident that any one of the ideas listed above would sell far better than a weird digital board game with RPG combat set inside VR, frankly. :P

Kokichi forgets v3 (saiouma misunderstanding angst prompt)

Apollo: "After the game, Kokichi randomly goes missing. No one knows where he is and unfortunately, not many of them care.

They think that he's running away from his problems like always and besides, they have much more important things to worry about, namely getting out of this damn hospital run by Team Danganronpa.

Unbeknownst to them, Kokichi is still there. He's kept locked in a different ward, with the staff doing their best to slowly break him down.

Sure, the franchise lost a lot of fans and supporters thanks to the 'survivors' but it was still running and well…Kokichi was a fan favourite so why not reuse him?

Why not break him down until he doesn't remember what happened? Why not make him trust them so they can throw him back in? He might not have been a survivor but who cares?"

Checkers: Do they not realize until they see him on V4

Apollo: "They don't even know there's gonna be a V4 until ads suddenly start playing with a strangely familiar silhouette

His behaviour has changed slightly and people start getting close to him and it hurts the V3 cast because they could have been close to him but they weren't and they hadn't even tried to find when when he stopped appearing.

They can't help but wonder if they could have saved him from this fate

But imagine not caring about someone and seeing them thrown back into DR and seeing them be liked by people"

Hina: Seeing Kokichi in that game, unable to remember anything that happened, is absolutely killing them Idk if he keeps his talent but If he brings the group together as a leader in that game?

Apollo: It tears them up inside because they finally notice that he IS a good leader…They just never gave him a chance

Hina: Imagine they try reaching out to him once he gets out But. He only recalls V4s cast

me: he falls for Shuichi anyway, as a handsome stranger he met, Shuichi gives up on telling him since he is not getting those memories back and has a fresh dose of trauma to deal with, so why bother him with Shuichi's guilt… well, Kokichi ends up finding out what happened in v3 anyway but it's like, Kokichi tells him he doesn't want to know about it and that he doesn't plan to look into it, because it would just feel weird to see himself there with no memories of it and possibly acting like someone else, but he stumbles onto a clip that has Shuichi in it online and gets curious and he thinks Shuichi hates him and only got close to him to get back at him like, mind you, he has no idea what his motivations and plans were in v3, he sees a clip that's from a curated narrative and he's just. it's super fucked up for him to see it's actually some Shuichi compilation I decided, so it starts tame, some sad moments, actually a cute moment from their FTE, and then he gets bitch slapped with Shuichi being mad at him and telling him off, and Shuichi seeming to only care about Kaito in ch5 he comes to Conclusions I am picturing it happening as they're in this fragile early stage of the relationship where they've been on a couple dates but haven't called it an official item and told people, so it's super bad - bad No reason for Kokichi to calm down and ground himself in something he can trust Shuichi about, nobody to intervene

what i would personally want from another DR game

(note: not all at once, since some of these are Mutually Exclusive in fact ha)

realistically:

preferably not a Killing Game. this sounds like Blasphemy but DR was never "about" Killing Games. i'll accept it if it happens, but i'll be Very Skeptical. there's plenty to say about that universe and its themes without throwing another new 16 into the mix. leave that to the Fangans, as i think only Fans can produce something that feels fully "new" w/r/t Killing Games now

preferably uses mostly characters we already know with some great additions. a la UDG

could be serious or a spinoff. racing game, RPG, rhythm game, fighting game, game where we use the Kumas like Pokemon...

if a spinoff, would prefer it still has something of a Narrative to it where everyone's somewhat in character, even if it's silly. think Usami forcing Kamukura to participate in Dangan Kart and he does because he's Bored or some dumb shit like that. give me that Stupid Content

just...another game with Kodaka's involvement specifically. this is filed under "realistically" because Kodaka has recently stated he would like to do it, and that after v3, he was on break from Danganronpa, not Done With It 5ever. considering he still does Birthday Posts and constantly answers questions about DR, he is clearly quite attached still, but ultimately by his own admission it's up to Spikechun

non-realistically:

End of HPA/adjacent timeline. IF, Everyone Is Here UTDP/Summer Camp etc

as a corollary to the above, would prefer that it is not V3's timeline. and V3 is, in fact, a Separate Timeline/"setting reset" according to Kodaka. it is not a retcon/continuation of previous games. BUT: i think that world would be best explored in novels/manga via the Rantaro series Kodaka wanted to do. BUT: i think if it is explored, it will be in a game

further: would prefer an Everyone Is Here game. it would unite the fandom, from old-time fans to folks who came in mostly thru V3 and stick to it

however, of these personal wish fulfillment settings, i think the most realistic of them is an IF-like timeline, esp if released on the 15th or 20th anniversaries. what better way to Celebrate than with everyone from DR1 being alive

Kyoko game that's like Ace Attorney because i don't know it'd just be funny. can you imagine. can we use Komaru to channel Yui

i want a Mukuro game but that's not going to Happen

female protagonist that lives. for real this time. could be a new one or not but the Universe Needs Balance. Komaru and Kaede need one more for their team!!!

a UDG-type game in that it Expands on an existing character who desperately needed it. this is under ??? because i imagine no one expected Toko to get her own game that transformed her from kind of a Joke Character into a Fully Fledged Baby. even Kodaka admits he didn't know what to do with her in the latter half of DR1, and she became one of the most Beloved Girls in the franchise in her game
