Okay so hear me out: draco as a spy for the order.

He proves himself to the golden trio in fifth year, for reasons I have yet to explain but will figure out soon enough, and runs to Severus during the summer in between fifth and sixth year before he gets the dark mark. Snape calms him down and they figure out what draco wants to do moving forward and what would be the smartest thing to do while keeping his morals in tact. They figure out the spy solution.

So snape takes draco to the order and is like “he should be a spy” and everyone’s like “no 😠” at first but then dumbledore goes “yes 🤓” and everyone goes “yeah we were joking he can join our club 😁” (I’m being funny not serious. I am also seriously minimizing the amount of time all of this will take and the complexity of all of it, but follow along)

Does all of that make sense? You guys obviously can’t read my mind and have no idea what I’m going to do with the characters yet, but this solves a big plot hole that I was trying to figure out a way through.

None of that matters. What matters most is here.” She touched his chest, right above his heartbeat. “Be true to yourself, Harry, promise me that.” Harrison Smith was an ordinary boy, thank you very much. He lived in a flat on a council estate with his mother, he went to school and did his homework, and always left an extra portion of dinner for Mum to have when she got off her late shifts at the local chippie. Harrison Smith didn’t know his dad. Mum said he’d died in a work accident when Harrison was young. Prince Draco x Hermione

Summary: The war is over. The Ministry dismantled. Voldemort has begun a caste system to better identify his sympathizers from his enemies.

King Malfoy, under guidance from the Dark Lord, is seeking a wife for his son, Prince Draco. All single women of marrying age can submit themselves to be a part of ‘The Choice’, a contest made up of 30 women who will move into what was Hogwarts castle to compete for the Prince’s heart. Hermione, an Essential, was in love with an Undesirable and didn’t want to submit her name – but surely, even if she submits, she won’t actually be one of the Chosen?

A (The Selection) inspired fic. Not a crossover. This is a WIP.

Excerpt:

“You fixed the hair,” Prince Draco mused, his eyes scanning her updo. “It’s much more - tame than I remember it being.”

Her eyes narrowed into slits at his sweetly veiled insult. To hell with playing nice. Maybe if she stopped disguising her hatred, the Prince would have her sent home sooner.

“Glad to know you’re still insufferable to be around. Time hasn’t changed much, has it?”

The Prince had the audacity to chuckle. “In regards to you and I, Lady Hermione - I don’t think it has.” He lifted a curl from her shoulder, brushing it through with his finger. “Except the hair. Immeasurably better.”

What would you say are your more controversial opinions about the hp characters?

ohhhh okayyy. i feel like my opinions on a lot of the characters aren’t controversial because i dont feel super strongly towards anyone in any negative light but here are some i could think of at the top of my head:

i’m glad the malfoys faced more extreme backlash after the second wizarding war. a lot of people in the fandom seem to be very sympathetic towards draco and scorpius for getting dogpiled with the brunt of it (which yeah, it sucks, especially for scorpius) but the prejudice makes complete make sense to me. if i was someone who didn’t know scorpius’ character, and had someone from my family get killed in the second war due to death eaters or something— seeing the malfoys still be wealthy and walk around freely without any jailtime, i would be bitter too. they’re hated on but they’re still one of the richest families ever, so they’ll live LOL

another anon has asked about this and i haven’t responded to them yet but when i do i will link it here for my reasons. basically: the best character in the cursed child is harry potter. i think the way they wrote his character and ptsd carried the play. it was def his story, not albus’.

i do think dumbledore has some aspects of him that may be considered morally gray, but mostly i dont think he is. he does everything for the good of the world, and his complete selflessness leads him to sacrifice anything for it— even himself and the people he loves, when necessary. i completely understand why people wouldn’t agree with his methods though.

james potter isn’t a sunshine character he’s a dickhead. fans of him made him a golden retriever character to be more palatable for modern times. i like him the way he is: an asshole and then less of an asshole 👍 this is what true stanning looks like

pansy parkinson is racist and out of all the female side characters, developing HER is so questionable from fandom

harry had questionable descriptions about a lot of male characters to make people think he could be a little 🏳️‍🌈 there was bill, there was sirius, there was cedric. but draco is not a part of that list. harry was not feeling draco whatsoever throughout the series but drarry shippers cling to that one ‘obsessed’ line

furthermore, harry rejecting draco’s offer of friendship wasn’t a sad or a ‘what if’ scene. draco was being a classist piece of shit and harry didnt want to fuck with that, there isnt any way in any timeline he wouldve accepted draco’s friendship.

slytherin sucks just generally lol. people want so bad to pluck anti-heroes out of a series that was written specifically with the mind to make all the characters suck.

hermione and ron’s drama isn’t as toxic as people make it out to be. yes, this includes the time hermione sent birds after him. people act like its the end of the world but she was tackling puberty and the end of society soooo i give her a pass to tweak out.

mostly every harry potter character has horrific names. like literally mostly everyone. even the name harry potter 🙁

movie romione wasn’t that bad LOL

severus snape’s ‘redemption’ or whatever was so ass. he bullies kids for five years and then everything is chill because… true love? on harry’s mum? are you kidding me 💀

weasley family angst goes hard but people (especially percy stans and some ron&ginny stans) acting like they’re the most toxic family to walk the earth make me want to rip my hair out and eat it. molly loves her kids guys shes not evil. jesus.

genuinely trying to think of more but i can’t right now…. maybe i will reblog and add to it. i feel like most of my opinions aren’t that controversial though 😭

I’m feeling inspired to take on an enormous project that I probably shouldn’t take on. So, to try and convince myself out of it, I’m asking if anyone would be interested in it:

A complete rewrite of Harry Potter.

Harry would still be in Gryffindor. I haven’t decided on the rest of the trio, but there are going to be some major character redesigns so hopefully they live up to their full potential, namely Neville and Draco. The fic will be drarry. Draco will be the bully in the first few years like canon, but I’m hoping to accomplish a Zuko level redemption arc with him starting fourth year.

The idea is still super duper vague, but it’s gonna be huge, and I likely won’t start posting stuff on ao3 until it’s finished.

The project will likely take a lot of planning and rereading do the og series (if this whole idea hasn’t said it, I hate JKR and the hp series had so much wasted potential UGH, anyways, I hope to fix that.

It’ll probably have a short bit of the trio in adulthood fighting to change the corrupt system. I’m planning on making Hermione a lawyer and either Harry or draco a politician (depends on how the story goes and how their characters develop) Y’all have any ideas on Ron?

Is anyone interested in this. I’m also SO interested in taking on people who will help me take on this project (through online communication)

Did I mention Dumbledore is gonna be a bad guy as well as voldy. I’m hoping for their to be no “good guy” and make dumbledore’s manipulation a bit more obvious.

Draco was fiddling with Sirius’s makeshift battery which had gone on the fritz and was trying to figure out a spell to repair it, lest the rest of the group revolt for lack of a good distraction. He nodded as an ethereal female voice started singing about crystal visions and Harry came to flop down in his chair opposite.

“Love it? She could have written it,” said Draco, tugging at a wire that had popped loose.

“Has she always been that way? You know, a bit loopy?”

“To be honest, I don’t know,” said Draco, looking up at Harry, who was perched cross legged in a patchy crimson armchair, the wall behind him covered in pictures of motorcycles. “I never spent time with her before this year. Most people take one look at her and write her off, but they’re wrong.”

Draco pulled sharply on the wire and the other end popped loose as well, sending a shower of sparks to the floor which he stamped out.

“Here let me try, '' said Harry, holding out his hand to accept the offending battery. “Do you still think she’s a nutter then?”

“Luna? Certainly not,” said Draco, crossing one leg and leaning on the arm of his chair to watch Harry fiddle with the infernal mess. “She’s bloody brilliant. I wish I had known sooner or I would have put her to work for me. With the right training she could be striking fear into the hearts of anyone who believes in the Sight.”

Harry laughed as he twisted the ends of two wires together. “Leave it to you to find a way to weaponize Luna’s personality.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I love the girl. But her predictions are absolute bogus,” said Draco.

“You hope at any rate.” Harry glanced up pushing his glasses into place. “Come on, show me a Luna memory then.”

Draco tilted his head, thinking of a good one. Deciding on the time Luna wore a life-size eagle headdress to a Ravenclaw Quidditch match, he locked eyes with Harry, and they dove into the memory together.

He could feel Harry’s presence laughing as the Eagle started pecking at the students in the row behind Luna, trying to get at the snacks they held, so he showed him another one. Luna in the Herbology greenhouse reorganising plants so they could all meet each other. Luna following a cluster of caroling ghosts through the halls at Christmastime and singing along.

Before he knew it, he was showing Harry the time he tried to set Luna up with the Slytherin Quidditch team. Harry was asleep on the couch, under the power of the diadem, as Draco and Luna chatted about the mimbletonia and Neville Longbottom and Luna’s philosophy on love.

It wasn’t until the conversation started veering towards Draco’s stake in the matter that he remembered with a shock how it ended. He tried to close it off, but Harry had felt his surprise and was now interested to see what would unfold.

“And does it really take that long to teach someone Occlumency? I mean really, what do you two spend all that time doing?” said Luna, her arms crossed in a very Hermione-like stance.

Draco cringed, knowing what was coming next. In his memory, his mind was full to bursting with thoughts of Harry as he blurted out, “It doesn’t matter, anyway! It would never work between us. He has no blood status to speak of. He hardly even has a family, not to mention the fact that he’s wanted by the law AND is an insufferably noble git on top of it all. Forget about what I want, my parents would never— ”

Harry stumbled back from the memory as the battery fell to the floor with a thunk. He was on his feet, pacing towards the door, his hands laced through his hair.

“Harry, let me explain,” said Draco, jumping to his feet.

But as Harry whirled around to face him it wasn’t anger in his face, it was disbelief.

“What you want…?” he said.

Draco didn’t know what to say. His heart was pounding. If it was possible, he wanted him more today than he had even wanted him then.

Without another word, Harry closed the space between them. Before he knew it, his hands were on Draco’s neck, drawing him into a kiss.

Draco’s own hands immediately found their way to the small of Harry’s back, then his hips, as he pulled him closer. Insistent lips pressed against his, soft but strong. The kiss with Theo so drastically paled with the real thing he almost laughed.

Draco slipped his fingers under the hem of Harry’s jumper, letting them trail up the smooth expanse of warm skin. Harry made a noise of appreciation, which nearly made Draco lose his footing. He tried to take a step to steady himself, but at the same time, Harry pressed into his touch, and he stumbled backwards, his knees making contact with the edge of the bed.

As they toppled over backwards onto the crimson bedspread, finding himself looking up at the pictures of women in bikinis on the ceiling and with Harry Potter, the saviour of the wizarding world kneeling over him, he really did have to laugh.

“What’s so funny?” asked Harry, propping himself up on his arms to pull back from the kiss, his face still inches from Draco’s own, smiling broadly.

“Just how much of a fucking idiot I am for not doing this sooner,” said Draco, running a hand across Harry’s jawline and threading it through his dark tangle of hair, drawing him back in.

“You and me both,” said Harry. Draco could feel the warm breath of his laugh across his lips as he pulled Harry down on top of him.

Cedric and Hermione would still be out on their run for another hour. There was plenty of time.

Hi, what are your thougths about Draco Malfoy? I really like your rewrite, but I always feel like Draco could be like, the catarsis of a familiar chain. The one who survived his family toxicity and became a better person. I'm just saying he had potential.

Hey Anon! I apologize for taking a bit to respond, I haven’t been on Tumblr very much. But this is an excellent question, so thank you for the opportunity to discuss it!

Draco Malfoy is a complex character. He comes from a rich family that are proud members of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, who followed the Dark Lord until they couldn’t anymore. From afar, many would think that they’re the perfect example of evil people. However, as we look closer, all we see is fear.

We see Lucius trying to protect his son whenever Voldemort put him on the spot. We see Narcissa going behind the Lord’s back to protect her child. We see Draco being forced to do a lot of things out of fear and out of wanting to keep his family safe.

I believe that Draco really was as obnoxious as we meet him as in the first book/film. But, like all children, he grew up. As the war intensified, his actions became less about getting a reaction out of Hari and more about keeping himself and those around him alive—which is something that Hari fails to see at first.

I like the idea of Draco getting a redemption arc, but I don’t think it would be easy for him. I mean, sometimes I imagine him attempting to disappear into the muggle world for a few years where he learns a lot more about the world and himself. Who knows what he might have done during that time? Worked at a bakery shop? Maybe.

In my visions, though, Draco always comes back to the wixen world and becomes a Healer. He apologizes for his wrongdoings and is actively looking to make things better.

Do Hari and Draco become friends or more? I’m not sure yet, but it certainly doesn’t happen until a couple of years after the war’s over.

On a somewhat different note, this is one of the things I love about the rewrite. I get to explore so many different family dynamics and how the kids respond to it. Some people change for the better, others for the worst, and others don’t change at all. It��s interesting to see how I slowly watch them unfold and bloom.
