@wynterlanding Happy Birthday Babe!
#ooc: alley talks#wynterlanding#Some notes: 1: The bottom text is white while the top is black simply because of the background and what colors look best where.#I tried all white then all black then  white text with black outline also black text with a white outline. All things things.#And in the end this configuration was what was the most easily readable for me. Odd but hey it works!#2: I needed a 2 syllable word after withdrawn my first thought was his job but that’s too many syllables.#The  syllable site I used said draftsman as an alternative to the word. It’s uhh not. Kinda. I know it’s not 100% but it worked so shhhh ;)#see architects can be draftsmen and draftsmen can be architects but not all architects are draftsmen and not all draftsmen are architects#A draftsmen is the person who makes the initial draft of a design or layout of a building#An architect designs the plans and layouts of buildings#one ot boyh might be hired for a job#the draftsman makes simple plans such as making a configuration for a client that wants a home with three bedrooms#the architecht does more planning and detials such as how rooms flow and look not just layout#they also make sure plans follow local ordinances codes and lawsmuhh sorry you didn't need to know all that but yes it will be on the test#tbh I could have just used craftsmen bc architecure and design could be considered a fine craft#but if I did that how could I fit in my trademark rambling lol#sorry but hey at least I put this all in the tags to make the post look nice and clean for rebloging

Once it became pretty clear that I could be a pretty skilled artist if I applied myself, around when I was 12 or 13 or so, my professional destiny seemed to split between trying to pursue art on the one hand, or trying to pursue history on the other
I chose history because it seemed more practical, more Important, and, perhaps most of all, it would keep me away from artists.
I wonder now whether I shouldn’t have just abandoned both and gone and worked in a factory and never had to think a thought or do anything for the rest of my life.

Oxford apartments neighbor speaking about Jeffrey Dahmer
One evening in June of 1990, I held my first conversation with our neighbor who lived across the hall. I introduced myself to him as Vern and he introduced himself to me as Jeff.
He appeared to be very polite as he and I stood in the hall in front of our apartments. He stated he was leaving to go to the corner store to buy a pack of cigarettes and when he saw I had a pack in my shirt pocket he asked if I had a cigarette I could spare.
Tumblr media
Of all the times I had seen this guy he was always casually dressed in faded jeans, a flannel shirt and casual shoes. He wore glasses and his hair was cut medium length always looking well groomed. He had the appearance of a college student or someone who had been to college. He was clean shaven and had boyish look.
I guess the word I would choose to describe my impression of him is intelligent, highly intelligent. He had a slim built appearing to be 6 feet tall, weighing maybe 165 pounds. I'd guess his age to be 30 or 31 years old.
Through the times that I'd see him our conversations would mainly be small talk about my car, my job, the weather, his job and the building or something of that nature. He always appeared to be soft spoken as we would stop in the hall on his way in or out of his apartment.
Never did he give me any impression that he had hang ups about living in a dominantly black building or living in the neighborhood which also was dominantly black. As time went on Pam also had begun to have small conversations with him. She also thought that he was pretty pleasant to talk to. We were neighborly with all the tenants living in the building.
Tumblr media
Being that I was the only black man at my place of employment and Pam being raised in Madison where blacks were few, neither she nor I had a problem with him being white. Our typical conversations went something like this whenever we would talk to each other in the hall.
"What's happening?"
"Hey Vern, not much."
He would notice that I would be just getting in from work most of the evenings when we'd see each other...
"How was your day?"
"Not too bad," I'd reply. From earlier conversations in our passing, I had informed him that I was a Draftsman. He like-wise told me he worked 3rd shift at a chocolate factory downtown and that he's been employed there for a couple of years.
"Do you have to punch in tonight?"
"Yeah, got to pay rent."
"Talk to you later," I'd respond. His reply was... "yeah, take care."
There had been various other conversations and I must admit talking to him made me feel appreciative of our small conversations. I felt sad for the guy living alone, never seeing him associate with anyone or have friends visit him at his apartment.
Amongst all of the tenants in the building Jeff stood out the most, not only because he was white but to me because he never had visitors or a girlfriend which to me appeared strange but not the type of out of the way strange. He was always alone.
He didn't own a car therefore, his means of transportation was the city bus. After becoming acquainted with him, we'd see Jeff standing on the bus stop or getting off the bus walking towards the apartment building.
He appeared to be weird to the other tenants but I never thought of him as such because of the fact that the area where we lived was nothing but a danger zone and keeping to himself was a safe thing to do. It was not safe for anyone walking that didn't fit in.
Tumblr media
It was no surprise to see Jeff wearing his light gray jacket walking at 9:00pm through someone's backyard or taking a short cut through the alley headed towards the Oxford Building. He'd walk among dope peddlers to have them approach him and ask him "you looking..?" "You straight..?"
Meaning do you want to buy drugs but He would either shake his head negatively or ignore the peddlers all together.
He would be approached by addicts trying to con him in any way possible for money and women working the streets would confront him with offers of sexual pleasures for money but he would ignore them all.
I recall once telling Pam that I thought he had a lot of heart to live in this area. He never showed any sign of being fearful, he didn't have a kick ass type of attitude. It was more of an "I don't bother you and you don't bother me" type of attitude.
In June there was a series of burglaries and apartments in our building were broken into. Everyone was on lookout for any strangers walking through the halls. The police were called and they questioned everyone that lived in the building to see if anyone may have seen anyone or knew anything. Two apartments were broken into and everyone in the Oxford Apartments had high concerns about the break-ins.
Tumblr media
The tenants began to look out for each other's apartments when the tenant was away. I had two of my nearest neighbor's phone numbers and I had also given them our number to inform each other when we were going to be out of our apartments. Our neighbor Jeff had gotten a phone but said he had it for only a week or so because he couldn't afford the bill.
"Hey Jeff, we're starting to look out for each other's apartment due to the break-ins. Give me your telephone number so that we can call you to just let you know when we're not going to be in so that you can keep an eye on our apartment."
"Vern, my phone was turned off because I'm having a hard enough time paying my rent and feeding myself, so there's no reason to give me your phone number. I do however intend to get a burglar alarm for when I'm away at nights working. There's no way I can afford to have my stuff ripped off and there's no real security around here that I trust."
"Yeah, it's getting pretty tough around here." I said.
"Yeah Vern I know what you mean. Any news about the guys' stuff that was stolen?"
"None! You know how that goes."
"Well I'll talk to you later."
"Sure Jeff, later."

To continue with Croatian self-taught naive painters - next is Ivan Lacković Croata (1932 – 2004), born to a peasant family in the village of Batinske near Kalinovac. After completing his primary school, he worked as a laborer in fields and forests. His first watercolours, depicting village life, were painted in 1944.
When he moved to Zagreb, he worked as a mailman and post office worker, when in 1962 he met Krsto Hegedušić and occasionally worked in his master workshop. His first one-man exhibition in the HAZU Cabinet of Graphics in 1964 established his reputation as a masterful draftsman. He left the post office job in 1968 and became a professional painter.
He painted lyrical and surreal scenes from his native region of Podravina in tempera and with oil on glass (a traditional technique of the naive artists from north Croatia). Detailed winter scenes prevail in his early works. (from wiki)

Throwing in some headcanons for the season 1 Archive gang
(As always, these are just silly goofy fun, not meant to invalidate anyone's characterization of the archive folks, we're in season 3 so if any of these contradict with canon, it's probably bc of that or memory failing us/personal preference sooooo, lesgo)
cw: alcohol (very lightly mentioned) and spiders
Jon:
-Jon tends to wander when drunk, it's a good idea to keep an eye on him. He's gotten lost in campus during his college days but always comes back unharmed (somehow).
-He thought his grandmother made up grass allergies to keep him from getting into dangerous places as a kid but his family has a genetic grass allergy, nothing fatal but recently cut grass does make him v itchy when it touches bare skin.
-He uses pen grips, i think he's developing arthritis so he owns some comfortable rubber ones. There are a few bite marks on em, but if you confront him he will gaslight you
-Jon's bones also crack very easily, when he gets up you can hear it. It gets worse throughout the seasons
-Jon uses transparent nail polish. He started doing it to avoid nail biting but started the habit of chipping it off. In college he wore colored nail polish but he ditched bc he doesn't consider it v professional on himself.
-He's a responsible sunscreen user, he applies it whenever he needs to be outside but he uses a regular drugstore one since i don't think he believes in skincare being a thing. IN THE SAME VEIN: he doesn't think that body wash works, he only believes in soap.
-He had a bowlcut as a kid.
-He gets shorter by 1 inch per season.
-Jon, even though very good with tech, prefers to do things on paper because he likes the feeling. He prefers pencils over pens, but uses pens because they are more professional
-Jon would love smash burgers, i'm not giving more context.
Sasha:
-Sash started training a couple years ago to improve her posture (she tended to go shrimp while doing deskwork) and now she could crush a lemon with a single hand. She and Tim go to the gym sometimes and she can lift way more than him
-To counteract the smash burger hc above, she would love Shake Shack.
-She's scored pretty high on IQ tests every time she has to take them but she doesn't believe in their validity.
-She used to go spelunking on internet forums a lot.
-I think she would have enjoyed well planned ARGs and things that involved solving mysteries before it became her full-time job to deal with horrors.
-Sasha owns comfy shoes she wears in the office. Wearing heels during a whole workday isn't worth it and she knows this.
-Shes a bit of a stationary fan, she would have all of the really nice highlighters and notebooks
-She chews her lips pretty often, especially when she wears nice chap sticks
-She likes furbies.
Tim:
-He hates furbies and dolls, truth be told it is more fear than hatred.
-He's been on commercials as a kid at least once. Somewhere on youtube there's a bubblegum commercial with a preteen Tim on it and Jon found it while looking for background info about nearly everyone in the archives in season 2.
-Tim has a small collection of fucked up Rubik cubes. He has a knack for solving them, the more alien-looking, the better. He finds solving puzzles stimulating but also gets fed up with them easily. Having something to do with his hands helps him think.
-He's an excellent draftsman, took an art course pre college and he indulges in it every now and then. He has no issues with people looking through his sketchbooks and all of the building facade sketches he has there. He's the kinda guy to sketch random people he sees in public and all of the archives gang has been drawn by him before
-He would love cockatiels, but he doesn't own any animals. He birdwatches quite a bit and has books/a special sketchbook just for birds/landscapes. He also purple columbine flowers, even though he is really bad with plants. He's foraged before but he ended up in emergency care bc he fucked with something he shouldn't have XD
-Tim got his tongue pierced some time ago, it suits him well.
-Will absolutely WRECK you in karaoke and then act like he isn't that good after (he was a theater kid)
-He's the most seasoned traveler among everyone in the archives. Tim's ideal vacay would be going around the world
-He would have enjoyed streaming games as a hobby (am i bringing up Mike LeBeau? probably. In a different world we would have Tim playing The Sims 2 with all of the mods on Twitch). He's also had pink hair before!!
Martin:
-He's a bit of a polyglot to me (so far The Eye makes you understand other languages but it doesn't give you proficency over them! That's all his own talent)
-Mart's worked at a blu-ray rental before the Institute. He came out of that job decently well-versed in 80's-90's movies. He's the opposite of a film snob and probably loves The Princess Bride and other bangers
-Martin's the kind of person that would cut an apple for you but he'd eat a tangerine with the rind on without hesitating. After you have a fight with him he brings you cut fruits and crackers
-He also writes prose and has finished nanowrimo during company time.
-Martin wears graphic tees under shirts under sweaters at work, but for very nerdy and obscure things
-Martin does the little dinosaur hand things often when he is walking, heh
-He's kept house spiders in glass jars with little holes and fed them bugs. Many of those spiders gave birth inside those jars. He's moved places a couple times as a kid so he's probably responsible of scaring a landlord or two by greeting them with a roomful of spider jars (and it was deserved).
-Martin owns tea pets!! He shares a cuppa with them every now n then

Today's Black History Month illustration is of Paul R. Williams, the first Black member of the American Institute of Architects.
Tumblr media
Paul Revere Williams was born in Los Angeles in 1894 and was orphaned at four years old. Immediately after high school, he landed internships and jobs at local architecture firms despite the racial prejudice. Williams took classes at the Los Angeles Beaux-Arts School and then attended USC’s School of Engineering. He became a certified architect in 1915.
Tumblr media
In 1920, Williiams was appointed to the first Los Angeles City Planning Commission, and the year after, he received a license to practice architecture in California and started working for John C. Austin. In 1922, he opened his own firm and served as an architect for the Navy during WWII. In 1923, Williams became the first Black person inducted into the American Institute of Architects.
He was an outstanding draftsman, and had the skill of rendering drawings upside down. He developed the skill so that his white clients (who might have been uncomfortable sitting next to a black architect) could see his drawings right side up across the table from him.
Tumblr media
Williams designed over 2,000 homes, including the homes of Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz, Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
Tumblr media
Along with designing homes for the wealthy and the stars, he designed affordable homes, public housing, civic, commercial and institutional buildings. Williams was also part of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) planning and design team.
Tumblr media
Some of his works include the Golden State Mutual Life building in LA, St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, and the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Tumblr media
He spearheaded the redesign of the Beverly Hills Hotel, a renovation which cost $3 million. The cursive letters on its sign are based on his own handwriting. Outside of LA, he remodeled buildings and spaces for Howard University (dentistry school, architecture and engineering college.)
Tumblr media
He received many awards including the NAACP Spingarn Medal and USC’s Distinguished Alumni Award. In 1957, he became the first African American to become an AIA Fellow. In 2017, Williams was posthumously awarded the AIA Gold Medal, America’s highest honor for an architect. He was the first Black architect to receive the Gold Medal.
Tumblr media
Williams passed away in 1980 at 85, leaving a mark on West Coast architecture and aspiring Black architects.

Kit's MM *Spicy* Book Rec List
Because I need basically zero encouragement to make a book rec list, and @thepixiepaige mentioned that a rec list would be appreciated, here is a rec list of some of my favorite MM spicy books that I've read in the last few years.
*Note: Please check content/trigger warnings as needed. Not all, or even most, of these will be everyone's cup of tea. Many contain kink, age gaps, and some contain sibling relationships.*
Cara Dee's The Game series
Forever and always my go to spicy rec. This series has me by the throat and there's just so many of them and they're all amazing! There are currently 16 and counting...
The Game Series is a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, two things are certain. This is not a perfect world, and life never turns out the way you planned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other Cara Dee Books
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nora Phoenix's The White House Men series, Perfect Hands series, and Kinky Boys series
Nora Phoenix is often hit or miss for me. Sometimes I love the books (like the ones pictured here) and sometimes they're a little meh. She writes daddy kink though in a way that consistently hits, so if that's your thing, these three are excellent reads and can be mostly read as standalones (although The White House Men series less so)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Avon Gale's Scoring Chances series
Below is the blurb for the first book. Each series deals with different players on the team. This is my go to hockey romance and I read all of these SO quickly.
Drafted to play for the Jacksonville Sea Storm, an NHL affiliate, twenty-year-old Lane Courtnall’s future looks bright, apart from the awkwardness he feels as a gay man playing on a minor league hockey team. He's put his foot in his mouth a few times and alienated his teammates. Then, during a rivalry game, Lane throws off his gloves against Jared Shore, enforcer for the Savannah Renegades. It’s a strange way to begin a relationship.   Jared’s been playing minor league hockey for most of his career. He’s bisexual and doesn’t care if anyone knows. But he’s determined to avoid another love affair after the last one left him devastated. Out of nowhere a one-nighter with rookie Lane Courtnall gives him second thoughts. Lane reminds Jared why he loves the game and why love might be worth the risk. In turn, Jared hopes to show Lane how to be comfortable with himself on and off the ice. But they’re at different points in their careers, and both men will have to decide what they value most.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
N.R. Walker's Thomas Elkin trilogy
Each book is only about 100ish pages, so really this is just one book broken up into three parts. Just very sweet and indulgent and architecture as a setting feels very unusual!
Even the strongest of buildings start out as plans on paper, and every architect knows that sometimes plans need to change. Sometimes, these lessons are learned on the job. A successful New York architect, Thomas Elkin almost has it all. Coming out as gay and ending his marriage before his fortieth birthday, he needed to start living his life. Now, four years later, with his relationship with his son back on track, and after a few short-lived romances, this esteemed traditional draftsman thought he knew everything about architecture, about life. Cooper Jones, twenty-two years old, is about to take the architect world by storm. Talented, professional, driven, and completely infuriating, Cooper is the definition of Generation Y. Starting an internship working with Thomas, Cooper is about to knock Tom’s world off its axis. Tom can teach Cooper about the industry, but Cooper is about to teach Tom a few things about life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Annabeth Albert's Out of Uniform series
Listen, I wouldn't rec a Navy SEAL series if it wasn't great, and these are GREAT. The blurb here is for the first one, but I loved them all.
After trading the barracks for a fixer-upper rental, navy SEAL Zack Nelson wants peace, not a roommate—especially not Pike, who sees things about Zack he most wants to hide. Pike’s flirting puts virgin Zack on edge. And the questions Pike’s arrival would spark from Zack’s teammates about his own sexuality? Nope. Not going there. But Zack can’t refuse. Pike Reynolds knows there won’t be a warm welcome in his new home. What can he say? He’s an acquired taste. But he needs this chance to get his life together. Also, teasing the uptight SEAL will be hella fun. Still, Pike has to tread carefully; he’s had his fill of tourists in the past, and he can’t risk his heart on another, not even one as hot, as built—and, okay, yeah, as adorable—as Zack. Living with Pike crumbles Zack’s restraint and fuels his curiosity. He discovers how well they fit together in bed…in the shower…in the hallway… He needs Pike more than he could have imagined, yet he doesn’t know how to be the man Pike deserves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keira Andrews
Another author who is often hit or miss for me, but these are really fun! She does the age gap romance that I crave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Specific Books
All of these are standalones, although many are part of a "series," and all of them are kinky and spicy af.

I abandoned academia about 7 years ago. I have an MA in history and was teaching adjunct classes for peanuts with no benefits or anything of the like and no guarantee of a job when the semester was done. One summer after the 2nd summer session ended I put in for a job in construction specifically dirt moving (building roads) due to needing the money and haven't looked back ever since. Im currently a heavy equipment operator and foreman. I make more money annually than a tenure track professor makes at the college I was at; the benefits are great with a 401k and health insurance; I still get 3 months off out of the year due to weather (in northern North America you can't do effective dirt work in the winter) and an added bonus of when I'm off the clock at 5:30 pm or during the weekends I'm off. There's no students or students parents to deal with after hours, no tests to grade, no papers to work on, no lectures to write, no faculty meetings or "mixers" etc... Maybe take some of the time between semesters to try something different, you never know you may find it works out to be something you enjoy more. If not I'm sure academia will still be there to go back to.
A lot of people tend to bring up the embarrassingly low pay of college professors as if this were a rhetorical slam dunk but generally people trying to be academics are well aware that it doesn't pay well and despite this poor payment there is still an amazing surplus of people who want to do academic work for the number of postings available (the low wages are therefore no mystery); I make more doing ____ isn't inherently compelling. I would make as much as a low-level draftsman as I can expect to make starting out at most colleges with a tenure track position.
I think if I wanted to chase money I would try to find something that would involve less time outdoors in the summer. I also don't think I would fit in well with the people who do that for a living, having done some blue collar work in the past I don't really want to live the Frasier-in-Cheers life of being reminded I'm a faggot for having a PhD and enjoying reading
In fact I went to academia in part to escape that. If I were the kind of person who was happy punching the clock for a decent wage I would still be doing that, but it bores me to death
It occurs to me however that the spirit in which this is written is less " do construction" than it is "there are other good things to do and what you might like may surprise you," which is a point well taken, but I do not think I have the luxury of too much experimentation at this point as I am in my mid-30s with much student loan debt and many dependents
I think my next thing kind of has to be my thing

William Playfair the Scottish engineer and political economist was born on September 22nd 1759.
In a day where anniversaries are thin on the ground, thank god for William Henry Playfair.
I read one article about Playfair that describes him as "a kind of Forrest Gump of the Enlightenment" perhaps a bit harsh, I would say he was a bit of a polymath, another source in my opinion is more accurate, Playfair is without doubt to many of you out there "the most famous man you have never heard of" he rubbed shoulders with the era’s many giants, switching careers at the drop of a hat, and throwing himself headlong into history-changing events, from the storming of the Bastille to the settling of the American West.
William had a lot to live up to, his brothers were architect James Playfair and mathematician John Playfair, his father passed away when he was 13 and it was left to John to lead the family. After serving his apprenticeship with Andrew Meikle, the inventor of the threshing machine, Playfair became draftsman and personal assistant to James Watt at the Boulton and Watt steam engine factory in Soho, Birmingham then seems to have just wander from one trade to another, the way Gump wandered through life, so you can see where the analogy comes from.
William Playfair, was, during his adult life, (takes a deep breath) a millwright, engineer, draftsman, accountant, inventor, silversmith, merchant, investment broker, economist, statistician, pamphleteer, translator, publicist, land speculator, convict, banker, ardent royalist, editor, blackmailer and journalist. Okay they are not all jobs, but they do put you in the picture a wee bit on the character of the man I think.
Most interestingly in my opinion was his time as a spy in France during the Revolution and was on the scene during the storming of the Bastille. He even helps trigger the first major political scandal in the newly formed United States, a land speculation gone bad involving Washington, Hamilton, and Jefferson.
To go into all of this man's adventurers would take too long, instead I will just tell you that the one thing he did, that has been a part of all your lives, in one way or another, is he invented the graph. Before William invented the graph you had to read through pages of statistics to find things out, the graph, you "get it" in a glance. In 1786, he published The Commercial and Political Atlas, a compendium of bar and line charts representing different European countries’ imports, exports, wages, and other trends for which he had the data handy. As the man himself explained, “Men of high rank, or active business, can only pay attention to outlines… It is hoped that, with the Assistance of these Charts, such information will be got without the fatigue and trouble of studying the particulars.” he went on “No study is less alluring or more dry and tedious than statistics, unless the mind and imagination are set to work,” in the book’s introduction.
His old boss Watt, was sent a copy of the Commercial Atlas for review, and wasn't impressed, called the book “mere plummery” and its author “a Rascal.”
To finish I must say that he was a rather humble man and actually gave credit for the invention to his brother writing, “[John] taught me to know that whatever can be expressed in numbers, may be represented by lines,” Playfair wrote much later, in the introduction to one of his books of diagrams. “To the best and most affectionate of brothers, I owe the invention of [these] Charts.” He was never a success in his lifetime and was seen as a ditherer by Watt, William Playfair died in 1823, in poverty and relative obscurity, banned from any good society.
Slowly, over the next century or so, the supply of readily available data grew—as did the the public’s appetite for it. Bar, line and pie charts began trickling into newspapers and textbooks. Two hundred years later, as we barrel forward into the Information Age, you can’t click a link without stumbling upon some kind of data visualization. The next time you come across a graph, remember, like many other notable inventions in our history, take pride in that it was the work of a Scot that gave us these easy to read information "pictures".

so i know your mobswitch mc = derse still and ts = prospit still, and i love that, but i’m wondering if you ever went over why jack noir & co would turn to detective work while team sleuth would go into crime? :0c
(slow pan over to over 6k words of my thoughts on this)
I may share extended thoughts at some point but I will somewhat summarize, I have more complicated thoughts on the scoundrels than I do on the company but essentially I view mobswitch as the exact same universe as the typical version within reason, but there was a moment in the past where different very minor decisions occured that snowballed into drastic change.
For example, Pickle Inspector has a powerful imagination and separately, schizophrenia, and at a point in his life on Prospit as a bureaucratic cog doing paperwork, a coworker is his is found to be engaged in heretical horrorterror worship which Prospit treats very harshly compared to Derse. PI mentions when everyone the man worked with is being interrogated that he had seen what could be construed as evidence of horrorterror influence in the man by other people, but what he knows is just hallucinations: things floating around the man in the air, whispering, so on. He's offered a position on the investigative team that is in charge of the witchhunts for heresy, but turns it down.
Innovator on the other hand is the version of PI who agreed. He's seen as a receiver of visions and a diviner who can sense evil and see truth where no one else can, and the respect, power and influence that gives him changes him over time, turning him into the somewhat more relaxed, magnetic and cruel personality you see in Metropolis Central.
Pickle Inspector turns down that job, deciding ultimately that the improved pay and living conditions isn't worth lying about his symptoms or imagining things wholecloth to throw people to executions or banishments. In a routine test a few months later when bureaucratic workers are tested for latent talents, he's shown to be a remarkable shot with a rifle and is extracted from desk work to find employment as a sniper on the front lines of the Prospit-Derse conflict, where he somewhat encounters Sleuth and Dick for the first time. Sleuth having served as messenger between the King and Queen, diplomat and emissary (Agent rather than Archagent), and Dick as a soldier on the ground.
Notably with the Crew vs. Company, the big shift at this point is the way Noir approached his relationship with the Black Queen and the governing body of Derse itself. Rather than stay Archagent and in an active rel-hate-tionship (lol) with BQ, before he even helps gets her exiled in a deal with the trolls he leaves his position, taking Dignitary, Droll and Brute with him. Rather than being anti-everything he specifically targets Derse's government and engages in smear journalism and muckraking which he will continue as Scout, sabotage and other specific criminal behaviors that leaned away from simply stabbing things and more on information gathering and organization to solve bigger problems. When they're exiled and end up in Metropolis Central, after the now joined remains of the Derse-Prospit governing bodies who escaped in the mass exodus take over the growing city founded by some chucklefuck (Scofflaw), they form the Company and take up detective work to help people who aren't being helped by the corrupt Fuzz and to uncover as many dirty government and business secrets as Scout's nosy heart desires. He works begrudgingly with the Fuzz, but is far less stab-happy and a bit more prone to getting his ass kicked because he thinks before he acts a lot compared to his opponents.
This is just loose coverage of how things are different, I've got more details nailed down for it than I've said here, of course :] also in terms of mobsterswitch i'll note that I have changed the names given to HB and CD traditionally, to Heedful Blandisher and Cheerful Draftsman to match my characterizations of them. I'm considering changing Scout's name too honestly, to Scurrilous Scout, because of scurrilous's meaning- despite it being used as a throwaway name invoked as Slick's exile name by Hussie? Scout is fine, but Scurrilous essentially meaning someone who creates scandals with the intent of damaging reputation is definitely the kind of thing that would be said about Scout in an attempt to discredit his muckraking, I think it fits really nicely. Besides, I really like carapacian names with obscure or less common words, and it feels like Peccant Scofflaw and the scoundrels got a lot more detailed thought in the names than the mc got? I dunno! It's fun! hope this is a decent response for now without writing a small novella lmao
