Also, while I'm on about all this.
FUN FACT: Did you know that Monster Zarbon is still stronger than Vegeta, even after his Zenkai boost?
And also that Vegeta's Technique is a good fucking move?
Once Vegeta makes off with Frieza's Dragon Balls and spots Krillin with the seventh, the very last one he needs to make his wish, he finds himself in a pickle.
Vegeta has to chase down Krillin and not let him get away. But doing so reveals them both to Zarbon.
It's here that Vegeta has to plan for how he's going to defeat a superior foe - formulating a strategy to take advantage of Zarbon's overconfidence.
Fortunately, Vegeta is a brilliant strategist.
STOP LAUGHING I'M SERIOUS. Vegeta took a sharp turn for dumbass from the Cell arc onward, but the Vegeta of the Saiyan and Frieza arcs was extremely intelligent, calculating, and observant.
When Zarbon reaches him, Vegeta's plan unfolds.
Totally willing to employ dirty tactics to circumvent a superior foe, Vegeta blinds Zarbon with the ol' dirt in the eye.
Capitalizing on that ever-present weakness of Frieza's forces: That they cannot sense ki. They have to see their opponent with their eyes. This is, effectively, Vegeta's makeshift Solar Flare.
This momentary blindness opens Zarbon up to cheap shots from Vegeta.
Which he quickly follows up on by pummeling his incapacitated and helpless opponent with that move that the anime made oh so famous for being useless and doing nothing.
For all his superior strength, Zarbon is now blind and being relentlessly assaulted by an unyielding waterfall of ki blasts. Each one by itself doing minimal damage to his superior hide but the overwhelming onslaught of attacks he can't defend himself against wear him down.
It's only at this point, battered and bruised and pummeled by Vegeta's cheap shots, that Zarbon's lost enough ki for Vegeta's Zenkai to level the playing field.
It's only after this, once he's thoroughly weakened his opponent, that Vegeta's superiority in technique allows him to win out in straightforward martial combat.
Though his Zenkai played a role, Vegeta wins this fight because he fought Zarbon smarter. By using dirty tricks and Vegeta's Technique to great effect.
