Da’Renan’s mother was so weighed down with grief over the death of her partner, she stuck around just long enough to name her child before leaving the clan, never to be seen again. Despite the loss of his birth parents, he never felt unloved or alone, as the entire Dalish clan felt like family. Da’Renan was especially close to his adopted mother, Ashalle, and Master Ilen, whom he apprenticed under with an intense interest in woodworking since his teens.

Da’Renan misses his clan every day, and often wonders what life would be like if he never found the corrupted eluvian and became a Warden. But it helps to remember one of the last things Keeper Marethari said to him: "No matter where you go, you are Dalish. Never forget that."

Tathas became all too aware of the injustices her people experienced at a young age, when her mother was murdered. This, and the need to provide for her household, led her to put her skills and uncanny luck towards retrieving stolen property and tracking down missing people. She developed the mindset that the shems existed to take from them, so she had no qualms about taking things back. If the law wouldn't protect her people, she would.

While Tathas was initially thrilled over her Grey Warden recruitment, the responsibility was more than she wanted. She took it upon herself to find a cure for the Taint, conveniently disappearing to do so. She still considers herself a proud Warden… just one with a new duty.

Adina was brought to Kinloch Hold when she was just three years old, and has no memory of any family or life outside the Circle before this. Receiving very little emotional care from the Chantry Sisters that looked after her, Adina grew up to be withdrawn in everything except her faith in the Maker.

It took a great deal of work on her friend Jowan’s part to coax her out of her shell even a little. This led her to be profoundly loyal to Jowan, and she agreed to help him escape the Circle even if it meant defying the Chantry.

Adina was ready to accept whatever punishment Greagoir decided on, but of course, Duncan had other plans. Being a Grey Warden opened up an entire new world to Adina, literally, and she flourished under freedoms she never even knew existed.

Rica did all she could to protect her younger sister Kay from the world. Despite this, as a casteless dwarf, Kay was subjected to cruelty for as long as she can remember. Try as Rica might, the world made it very clear that Kay was not supposed to be in it, as far as everyone else was concerned. Kay was afraid to dream of anything beyond a life as a carta puppet. On one hand she had a mother telling her she would never amount to anything, while on the other, her sister tried to nurture hope of a better life.

A better life came in the form of recruitment into the Grey Wardens. Eager to prove her worth to the world and to herself after all, Kay accepted life as a warden with glee.

Dalia almost died within the first few weeks of life, after she was born prematurely. Her father sought the help of spirits to see her recover, despite Chantry superstition that it would instill magic in the child. Whether the superstition from the sisters was true or not, five years later, Dalia proved to be overflowing with magic. From that point on, the Hawke family lived their lives in a constant state of running. This impermanence led Dalia decide that friendships were nothing but inevitable loss; only her family mattered.

One of the good things about moving to Kirkwall and becoming its Champion is that Dalia learned that friends can be family. And even though many of the group have gone their separate ways, Dalia still considers them such.

Stephen always felt like it was his responsibility to be a third parent, more than a sibling, after Carver and Bethany were born. From a time when he was still young himself, he was put in charge of looking after the twins, and he took this job very seriously. It’s something that carried over even into adulthood, despite Carver’s frequent protests that he was old enough to care for himself.

Without his family to look after, Stephen felt lost. It took becoming Champion for him to find purpose again, deciding to use his newfound influence to spread acceptance of mages.

Amaris was born into a clan some believed cursed to never bare children with magic, always having to adopt mages from other clans. From the moment her magic manifested at age 12, she was treated as special. She considered herself lucky to get to spend her days apprenticing the Keeper, and her parents went from fretting over her spending too much time reading, to not enough.

While Amaris accomplished much as Inquisitor, she rarely found any enjoyment in the position. Plagued with fears of assimilation, doubts about herself, and soul-crushing revelations about her reality at every turn, it took a harsh toll on her. But disbanding the Inquisition to refocus on stopping Solas has refilled her with determination and purpose.

Alec was ten years old when his magic manifested, much to the horror of his parents. For months they tried every superstitious “cure” they could find. Alec hated his family after the first time they almost drowned him, and was in a lot of ways relieved when they finally gave up and sent him to the Ostwick Circle.

Ostwick’s reputation as a “sedate” Circle was achieved through authoritarian control by the templars. While Alec enjoyed his studies at mastering his magic, he hated feeling like a prisoner incapable of breathing without suspicion. Not to mention, his weak blood (anemia) only worsened while locked away.

Alec enjoyed the freedom found as Inquisitor, able to decide his own fate now. He relished in going from unwanted, to everyone clamoring for his attention.

Adaar’s Tal-Vashoth parents had no knowledge of how to raise a child. Though they were kind, they were distant, both traumatized by their escape from the Qun. They called her Imekari (“child”) and left her alone most of the time. It was not until her magic manifested and they arranged a Tal-Vashoth Saarebas to teach her how to control her magic that Adaar felt true connection to an adult figure. The Saarebas took her under his wing like she was his own. At age eighteen, Adaar adopted the name she would be come to known as: Taam (“battle”). She bid farewell to her parents and joined the Valo-Kas mercenary band, in hopes to see more of the world.

Taam likes the safety being Inquisitor provides, even if it comes at the price of half Thedas calling her the Herald of Andraste, and the other half calling her an ungodly oxman. Taam just wants to be known as Taam, and is thankful to have people around her to remind her who she is.

Terry held a lot of resentment towards her ancestors for their exile, and towards her family for raising her in a life of crime with the Carta. It would have made her very unpopular with the syndicate, if not for the fact that she was very good at what she did. Gifted with cunning and the art of subterfuge, if you needed something to get discreetly from one Free Marcher state to another, Terry was your gal.

The Inquisition offered Terry the escape from her life of crime she so desperately wanted, and she took to the opportunity without looking back. Terry views being the Inquisitor as a chance to redeem herself by bringing about peace and transparency to southern Thedas.

@dalishious made an elven character creator for Dragon Age and I got hooked ( it is HERE if you want it).

So… here:

Naomhan Tabris. A good kid who was full of dreams about being a great hero who would lead the world into respecting his people only to watch as they put more focus on his companions and not him. After her saved his father from a riot, Naomhan was bitter enough to follow the woman he loved (Morrigan) through the mirror, bringing his father with him.

Thea Surana. An intelligent mage who tended to prefer the truth over white lies, Thea was used to being able to over come thing through willpower alone. Being out in the world though taught her more then books ever did and she learned that sometimes lies or misdirection was needed. She comes from Rivani and had gotten her tattoo and piercings done in secret, hoping to one day go to the homeland she dimly remembered before her magic manifested.

Davalla Lavellan. My delightful himbo lady warrior who likes to chase dragons and wrestle with Bull. She is intelligent and quick witted, managing to get a full court approval (I still let Celene die though ✨tragic✨). She’s just also the person to get distracted or over eager to hunt down dragons or poke at giants. She’s huge on staying true to yourself owning what you believe in, which led to some issues down the road with Sera and later when her lover Solas left.

Revas Lavellan!! I originally shelved her after wanting to replay the games but I delight in her to much to let go. So instead I kept her wok editing her enough to not do the same thing. I also edited her name after learning of the… issues reguarding the person’s lexicon I took the name from.

Revas is a rouge who has a bit of a devil may care attitude. After spiders destroyed her first clan a when she was in her twenties vallaslin, she became very ‘live in the moment’. She found the Lavellan clan after her clan’s death and began searching for her baby sister who had been alive during the attack on the clan but awakened her magic quite late in life as she herself had just gotten her vallaslin. Harellen was caught by Templars in a town they passed though, being dragged off. Revas devoted her life to find her… and did, selling wares with a blank face. Revas kidnapped Harellen to take her to Lavellan where the former mage became a craftsmen.

Of course we have my AU of this…

Harellen Lavellan. A world where Revas fought off the Templars and Harellen fled into the forest where she found a clan. Young and never trained, Harellen devoted herself to work as a mage, hoping in her heart to bring her sister back to her. She eventually started going by Harel when her interests became more macibure and more into the idea of the dead coming back. She was eventually traded to the Lavellan clan who were welcoming of Harel’s interests in things like entropy and necromancy. Harel eventually accepted she would never bring her sister back but devoted herself to her studies.

CONFESSION:

When it comes to characters I think a lot comes down to, whether people want a game full of characters they only like? Or do people want a game with a variety of characters (where some of them they won't like, just like in real life)?I've seen posts from the fandom claiming they want flawed, imperfect people but to me it doesn't seem this way. I see people wanting characters/companions to be flawless and likable only which for me feels ridiculous and contrived

I prefer interesting flawed characters with their own opinions (sometimes unpopular) that challenge me and the other companions/characters rather than having everyone bow down and kiss my protagonist's ass.

I'm playing in a Dragon Age ttrpg and having a lot of fun. The chonky dude on the left is my character, a healer mage with a Tevinter Laetan background. What type of music would Morrigan like? 👀 I see her as hating bubblegum pop or pop in general but maybe leaning into bedroom pop, but never admitting it. Maybe loving bands like Kittie or any bands that envoke feminine rage? Screamo maybe? I can see her have The Perfect Girl on repeat as well. Maybe even No Scrubs (but she would never admit it). I can picture Leliana being into artists like Taylor Swift or kpop. Anything that invokes positive feelings as well as romance themes. Maybe cries to songs like Duvet or Nobody. Probably has Ditto by NewJeans on repeat. Alistair is probably into angsty teen music, EDM, or rap. I can see him having Legacy by Eminem on repeat as well as I'm Good by David Guetta. Mainly music that represents how lost and lonely he feels as well as how happy he is with his newfound order. I know for a fact that Zevran has Sexy Naughty Bitchy by Tata Young on repeat. He is not picky with music. If he likes it he likes it. Probably goes back and forth between sexually positive music and really heartbreaking love songs. Would love Boy's a liar Pt. 2 since that is what's trending right now.
