Princes of Prophecy
---
Fili was five when Kili was born. He was twenty-five when he mastered the recitation of his lineage. His people had abandoned The Lonely Mountain fifty generations earlier and all they had left of that once great kingdom was a myth, a few hereditary leaders, and a prophecy:
When the mountain moves, forgotten princes will witness the beginning and cause the rise of hope.
The dwarves of Erebor long considered themselves the dwarves of Ered Mithrim. Thirteen extended and intermarried families shared the mines at the southeastern end of that mountain range overlooking the fabled Withered Heath. Once the home of dragons, it now lay abandoned. But stories of its great flying beasts still frightened children.
On his fiftieth birthday, Fili’s uncle took him along the edge of the heath enroute to the Iron Hills. Fili had entered puberty and negotiations for his marriage had begun. There would be no official union until he reached majority at the age of 100, but good deals took time.
For his part, Fili considered himself already married. On Kili’s twenty-fifth birthday, the two had solemnly and secretly exchanged oak wreaths. It was what Kili wanted and Fili wanted whatever made Kili happy. He didn’t understand why Kili’s smile made his heart warm, but it did and he never wanted to lose that feeling.
Fili rode in the wagon with Uncle Dwalin while Uncle Thorin rode separately on a pony. There was plenty of room for Kili, but his mother had told him that Kili was too young for the journey and would be safer at home. He grudgingly accepted her wisdom. Kili hated it and Fili tasked him with guarding their secret treasures while he was gone. That mollified the younger dwarf. Thorin had promised that the expedition would return in time for Yule, so Fili and Kili made matching countdown calendars in their journals to track the days.
In the second week of the journey, Thorin spotted the single peak of Erebor in the distance and the whole group stopped to have a meal and record their thoughts and impressions. Fili drew a picture so he could share it with Kili.
They ended up camping there for the night. After dinner, they all sat around the fire and shared stories. Eventually, the shadow of Erebor led Thorin to tell the tale of the prophecy. Fili was reminded that he was a prince but the prophecy specified princes, plural, so that this was not yet the time.
The adults nodded silently, but Fili asked if the person he married would become a prince. Thorin explained that his wife would be a princess, not that anyone had used those titles in a long time. Fili insisted that his husband would be a prince, so Thorin reminded him that he had a duty to take a wife and produce an heir. Then he changed the subject.
Fili squinted angrily at Thorin as the adults dismissed the young dwarf from their conversation. If the duty to take a wife and produce an heir was so important, why was he the heir because Thorin hadn’t? He grumbled under his breath and lay back to look for shapes in the stars.
The rest of the trip went as expected and they were indeed home in time for Yule. Fili’s greatest gift was being reunited with his best friend. He strove to make the most of their time together in case Thorin really tried to force him to marry differently.
On Fili’s seventy-fifth birthday, it became obvious that Thorin recognized his relationship with Kili and wanted to end it. He began sending Fili on frequent trading trips. As long as Thorin was not in the party, however, Kili would join them by dinnertime on the first or second day. He was an excellent hunter and his presence ensured full stomachs, so everyone was happy to see him.
Fili began to plan ways to escape Ered Mithrim. He loved his friends and family. He loved the mountains and mines of his home. But he loved Kili more. And Thorin became more and more adamant about making a good marriage and having sons.
Every trip became a scouting trip. Fili’s journal filled with possible routes and destinations. He quietly kept a portion of his earnings back from his treasury account. He purchased or traded equipment and supplies until he had the most comfortable and impressive caravan in the entire realm. His team included younger members of every family.
Thorin thought Fili was a genius and let him run their entire trading program. He considered it all an asset to his matchmaking efforts. Serious offers of marriage and alliance arrived almost as regularly as the profits from Fili’s trips. He decided that the whole princes and Kili thing was just youthful exuberance.
On Fili’s ninety-fifth birthday, Thorin announced his engagement to the eldest daughter of a distant relation and trading partner in Ered Luin. Fili had not been consulted. He held Kili’s hand under their table and they both faked smiles throughout the banquet.
Fili’s caravan left two days later. The previously planned trip raised no suspicions. Like Fili’s first expedition, their path lead southeast toward the Iron Hills. Again, in the second week of the journey, the single peak of Erebor was sighted in the distance and the whole group stopped for the night. Fili was happy to share it with Kili. He felt it was a good omen for their plan.
The next morning, half of the caravan, with most of the trading goods, continued on to the Iron Hills. They would continue sending progress reports by raven, fulfill the obligations Fili had contracted, and return to Ered Mithrim with the profits.
Untethered from Thorin’s expectations and machinations, Fili and Kili headed southwest with the remaining members of the caravan. None of them had good prospects at home and were happy to follow Fili in finding a new domain. If all went as planned, the members of the decoy caravan would receive messages and join them over the next few years.
On Fili’s one-hundredth birthday, he officially married Kili. They stood before their found family and friends on an outcrop in the Misty Mountains with Erebor a distant point on the horizon. Their new community was small and they were just beginning to make progress on a new mine, but they all had hope.
At that moment, The Lonely Mountain erupted. Gandalf’s wildest fireworks were put to shame. They all watched in amazement and a bit of fear as even their distant home shook under their feet. Someone remembered and repeated the prophecy out loud:
When the mountain moves, forgotten princes will witness the beginning and cause the rise of hope.

Thoughts/wonderings on the Dragon Age: The Missing issue 1 preview pages (Dragon Age: The Missing #1 spoilers at link), under a cut due to spoilers (please note post contains spoilers for front pages and synopses of subsequent issues beyond #1 as well):
I know it isn't new, as we saw her before in this piece of art, but I love Evka's design, like her hairstyle, her facial markings, etc.
Evka and Antoine is a pleasant surprise, I'm looking forwards to spending time with them and learning more about them, and I hope they both make it out of the issue alive.
going by the presence of two other characters (that resemble Teia and Viago) on the cover of #2, it seems Evka and Antoine are the companions for issue 1 only, but still, the composition for the adventuring party of issue 1 is such a treat. No humans, and dwarf-heavy!! I'd like to see more of that sort of thing in DA going forwards
about that. Evka and Antoine in #1. #2 has what looks like Teia and Viago on the front. #3's synopsis says Varric and Harding run into a pair of Veil Jumpers, and I wondered here if they could be Strife and Irelin. based on this I have wondered if each issue of Dragon Age: The Missing features a different cameo of 2 of the 'newer era', 'Tevinter Nights & similar' characters, perhaps even representing different factions? [Wardens, Crows, Veil Jumpers/The Triangle Guys, ?]. a) how fun, and a neat way to re-feature and expand on these characters before DA:D b) could we be seeing these folks in DA:D? c) who could it be in The Missing #4?
I like Varric's dialogue, I can hear 'his voice', u know? he seems so tired and on-edge in this. :[
So, if something has been dragging the people of Marnas Pell away / abducting them, the title could have a double meaning. It's not just Solas who is kinda 'missing', that Varric, Harding and the Inquisition remnants are looking for. these poor people are missing as well. if so and since that's the title of the whole series, not just one issue, that could be a plot thread that runs through all 4 issues
Varric and Harding's dialogue "Stop him, what else" / "But you were his friend, right? Maybe you could, you know, talk to him?" exchange nicely reflects the Solas choice Stop/Redeem at the end of Trespasser
"It fits, though. A refuge in the ass end of nowhere. He's really gone down in the world", Varric pls, the shade
"You were his friend, right?" reminded me of when the Inquisitor can ask Varric in Haven 'tell me about your friend Anders, the mage who blew up the Kirkwall Chantry'. poor varric, he must be so tired and feel so guilty feeling like his friends keep ending up doing stuff that isn't good for the world either with his involvement or under his nose without him knowing.
the light/dark shading on Varric's face feels quite intense compared to the others. it emphasizes for me how on-edge and stuff he's feeling/acting
Has Harding's hairstyle changed since DA:I? ^^ she wears it in a long braided ponytail now? reminds me of the Harding-esque dwarf in this DA:D concept art
interesting, they're in the Deep Roads with those familiar dwarven statues, but when Antoine is looking at the wall, that looks like a carving of a human-sized figure on a horse
"A tall, dark figure, emerging from the Deep Roads to drag the unwary to their doom" 👁️
"There could be a human or an elf down here, using the place as a base for whatever terrible scheme they've concocted" 👁️
the shadowy figure at the end 👁️
I guess if they told Evka and Antoine, they would probably become people Solas does know, not 'people he doesn't know', and the Inquisition remnants are trying to keep their operations secret and uninvolved people out of harm's way. I also wonder specifically what lead it is that the Inquisition remnants had that sent Varric and Harding down here after Solas in the first place. is it just Varric & Harding looking into these, or are there other groups of known faces investigating others?
about the kidnappings, and the possible it's darkspawn/maybe it's not darkspawn stuff. we know that darkspawn take female captives during raids and take them into the Deep Roads (the origin of Broodmothers). in the novel The Calling, the Architect's darkspawn captured and took captive Warden Bregan. ofc that doesn't mean it's darkspawn, especially since Evka and Antoine hadn't sensed any yet, just that it's not unknown that darkspawn kidnap people. is whatever/whoever's taken the people doing effed up experiments on them? is there any connection to the underground monsterpools from Horror of Hormak? how does it link into the plots of subsequent issues e.g. going by the Venatori presence in the synopsis for #2, maybe it is them who are the culprits?
could investigating the kidnappings be why Evka and Antoine had been recalled to Weisshaupt in TN?
also I'm just so excited! Obviously we knew that this comic was coming, and that it's stated to be a DA:D lead-in. but it's still just so exciting to finally see the DA:D storyline, or the prologue thereof, finally kicking off (things like TN & the short stories were great but more in the vein of bridging content between things, this feels more like 'Chapter One').

Roam The Earth | Geraskier
So... I wrote this thing ages ago. It must have been March, because that was when I listened to this song for the first time: Roam The Earth by Kaleb Jones.
And I don't know why, but I immediately connected the lyrics to Geraskier and decided to write a little alternative ending to the infamous mountain-scene. That being said, I used parts from the episode which I didn't come up with, obviously. I hope you enjoy it! (bonus points for the dear hearts that find the reference that truly surprised me as I edited the story!)
~~~~
Roam The Earth | Geraskier | PG | 2.2k
I wanna roam the earth with you
“Look, why don’t we leave tomorrow? That is if you’ll give me another chance to prove myself a worthy travel companion.”
“Hm.”
“We could head to the coast. Get away for a while. Sounds like something Borch would say, doesn’t it? Life is too short. Do what pleases you… while you can.”
“Composing your next song?”
“No, I’m just, uh, just trying to work out what pleases me.”
The conversation he had with Geralt only minutes ago still rang in Jaskier’s ears as he saw how the witcher walked up to Yennefer’s tent, put his weapons in front of it and then, after a moment of hesitation, went inside.
The bard watched this scene with a heavy heart. Sure, he wished for Geralt to be happy, no matter how, but then again, Jaskier had lost his heart to him years ago. He wanted the witcher to himself, but he knew it would never happen. Not with Yennefer still in the picture.
Jaskier stifled a bitter laugh. After all this time of travelling together, the sheer thought of coming closer to the witcher seemed futile, but still, the bard didn't want to let go of it. He was a romanticist, after all.
As the bard looked away from the tent, he tried not to think too hard about what would happen inside of it, or about how comfortable Geralt would sleep while he would find a place on the ground next to the fire the dwarfs had lit. Instead, he took out his jotter and sat back down on the stone near the cliff.
He sighed when he thought about the idea of a getaway with Geralt. Just them. On the coast. Together. Maybe they would find a little house, not much, just a roof over their heads. They both were used to being in nature, so they only needed a place to sleep at night.
Tell me where you wanna go I don’t think it matters Mountainside or by the coast Chase the weather patterns
Or they could stay in the mountains. The views were amazing and there were many places to stay as well.
Choices, choices.
Yet, it would never happen. It simply wasn’t meant to be. They weren’t meant to be.
“Oi, bard. Are ye coming? The wine is good and we’ll exchange some for a tune or two.” Jaskier sighed when he heard Yarpen’s voice. He put a smile on his face and turned around. “Sure. Let me just get my lute and then I’m all set” he said and got up. He wanted to be alone and sulk about his lost love for the witcher, but then again, Yarpen and his men would surely be able to distract him. And the wine would do the rest.
~
The wine had been good. And strong. It had made him drowsy and he had slept like a dead man. He had slept so well that when he woke up, the sun was already high up in the sky. “Oh bollocks,” he cursed and jumped up. He quickly gathered his stuff and hurried away, up to where he assumed the rest of the group had gone.
He was too late. Once he arrived at the cave, he saw dead bodies lying around. He was surprised to meet the two warriors, Téa and Véa, who had been presumed dead after their fall. And there also was Borch, who apparently was a golden dragon. It was a lot to take in, but it would certainly make for a good ballad.
Jaskier listened as the dwarfs talked to Borch and then talked to him himself before he sat down a bit aside to write down in his jotter. As he was writing down, he noticed that Yennefer, Geralt and Borch were talking.
While he wasn’t able to hear every word, the bard certainly noticed that there was tension between Geralt and Yennefer which they unloaded by shouting at each other. It seemed to be about the nature of their relationship and Geralt’s child surprise.
In the end, Yennefer left with tears streaming down her face and Borch left Geralt, too. Jaskier got up. He knew that he had to do something. Talk to Geralt. Show him that he was not alone.
So he did just that. He walked up to him and took a deep breath. “What a day,” he said, trying his best to sound cheerful. “I’d imagine you’re probably-” “Damn it, Jaskier” The bard felt himself flinch involuntarily. He didn’t like it when the witcher raised his voice at him. With his growling voice and the huge sword on his back, Geralt clearly looked intimidating.
“Why is it whenever I find myself in a pile of shit these days, it’s you, shovelling it" the witcher growled. “Well that’s not fair” Jaskier interjected, but Geralt was quick to remind him of both the child surprise and the djinn.
“If life could give me one blessing it would be to take you off my hands” the witcher then continued.
“I…” Jaskier stopped for a moment and thought about what Geralt had just said. He knew that maybe it would be better to just leave Geralt alone, but to the bard, it seemed as if the witcher was lost. He was angry, not at himself personally, but at the world. “No” he therefore simply said. “Leave me alone, Jaskier. You’ve done enough” Geralt growled back.
“Oh no, Geralt. I have done nothing. It is not my fault that you are in love with the witch and don’t have the guts to tell her” Jaskier said. “As for your child surprise: I did not accept the law of surprise. Yes, I asked you to join me on this ball, but everything else was your decision alone.”
To this, Geralt just growled, turned around and walked away to the little cliff where they had sat the night before.
Jaskier gave the witcher a few minutes to calm down before he joined him and even when he sat down, he didn’t talk.
“Do you really think that our connection, the one I have with Yen… that it’s just magic? Just… just us being connected by the sheer fact that I wanted her to survive?”
Jaskier was surprised when Geralt spoke up. He knew that he had been right. That not leaving him alone was the best thing he could have done. The witcher needed him there. Wanted him there, but Jaskier also knew that if he had left, Geralt wouldn’t have asked for him to return.
No, Geralt needed to be pushed towards accepting help. And over the years Jaskier had learned to do that more and more.
“What did Borch say? He seems to be the specialist in all things supernatural. He’s the Golden One after all, isn’t he?” Jaskier said.
“He said that I would lose her. And I did lose her. She left.” Geralt didn’t make a move, he didn't even flinch, but Jaskier could feel that the witcher was not okay.
“For… for good?” Jaskier wanted to know. Sure, he wasn't too fond of the witch, but he knew how much she meant to Geralt. “I’m sorry, Geralt…” The witcher just grunted affirmatively. “And now? My offer still stands, Geralt. The coast, the mountains, I don’t care where we’re going.” Geralt didn’t reply. He didn’t even grunt. But somehow Jaskier knew that everything would turn out fine.
~
Saw the clouds come rising up and lightning turned to laughter then I knew you were the one ever after
~
They stayed up on the mountain. Geralt spent the better part of the day sitting on a rock and staring into nothingness. Jaskier kept his distance, he knew that the witcher needed time to himself. Of course, he wanted nothing more than to be back in civilisation, but he also knew that Geralt needed to be alone for once.
Still, the bard was glad that he had decided to stay. Geralt wanted him there. Maybe he even needed him, Jaskier didn’t know. But one can dream.
The bard got out his jotter and lute and decided to work on the song he had started to write the night before.
Ancient Love and Wanderlust Fell so fast that sunset Mother nature kept their trust And married them in secret
He tried out the lines and melodies a few times until he was happy with how it turned out. He was so focused on his work that he didn’t notice that Geralt had moved from his spot.
“This sounds… nice,” the witcher said.
Jaskier looked up, he was surprised. “Thank you,” he said and looked down at his jotter. “I… just don’t know if I am happy with it.”
Geralt grunted. It was a soft grunt, that made Jaskier smile. “You know how particular I am about my work, Geralt,” he pointed out.
“I know” the witcher returned with a slight smile on his face. “You’re a perfectionist when it comes to your work, at least when it comes to your more meaningful songs.”
Jaskier couldn’t help but chuckle. “So you think this is going to be a meaningful song?”
“I know it,” Geralt said. “Whenever you get into this mood… when you’re scribbling things down rapidly and then grabbing the lute and humming things and…” he stopped when he saw the puzzled expression on the bard’s face. “What?” “How do you know all this?” Jaskier wanted to know. Geralt shrugged. “We’ve spent almost two decades together, of course I know things about you,” he returned. “I had plenty of time to get to know you.”
Jaskier looked away. “I thought you… you were just dragging me along for whatever reason. Especially because I… I am usually the one responsible for the bad things that happen to you. You said so yourself.” “Jaskier you know I didn’t mean it,” Geralt said, his voice almost being a growl.
Jaskier sighed. He knew that arguing with the witcher wouldn't change anything, even though he wanted to speak up and make him understand how these words had hurt, he decided not to. So he just shrugged his shoulders. "I guess so…"
"Hmmm," the Witcher uttered. He fell silent and for a moment Jaskier thought he would say something. But Geralt just sighed deeply. "I'll leave you to it."
Jaskier watched as the witcher turned away and went back to his spot at the edge of the cliff.
The bard needed a moment to recompose himself but then took his jotter and went through the lyrics he had just written. He spent a long time tweaking the words and the melody until he was happy with the way it sounded. Only then did he sing through the whole song again, wanting to know whether it worked out the way he wanted it to.
While Jaskier was singing, he looked over to Geralt, who was still sitting at the cliff. He knew that these lyrics were everything he wanted to tell the witcher at this moment and he also knew that Geralt was able to hear him.
Now we’re tethered to this world Solemn body wishing For hidden springs and treasures we Might be missing I wanna roam the earth with you
“I want that, too.” Jaskier was surprised when he suddenly heard Geralt’s voice after he had closed the song. “What?”
“Roam the earth… with you,” Geralt said.
The bard opened his mouth to say something, but he was at a loss for words. He put his lute aside and walked up the witcher. He sat down next to him, just like the day before. “Geralt…” “I have been thinking, Jaskier. Yes, you have been around when some of the bad things in my life happened, but… you’ve always been around somehow and… I like having you around.” Geralt didn’t look at the bard while he was talking, he looked out at the sky.
“Geralt…” Jaskier took a deep breath. He knew that he had to be careful with his words now. Geralt didn’t present himself that fragile and raw often. “We can do this, Geralt. Get off this damn mountain and… just go wherever you want to go.” “I need to get to the child” Geralt returned.
“And we will do just that” Jaskier confirmed. “But… maybe you want to go to the coast before? Take some time off? If it…. pleases you?” “It would please me,” Geralt said. He finally turned his head and faced the bard. “Thank you, Jaskier.”
“For what?”
“For staying.” Jaskier smiled. “I thought about it, but… I just knew that it would be the kindest thing to stay. To not leave you alone.” “Hmm…” Geralt seemed to be thinking. “You seem to know me better than I know myself at times.” The bard chuckled. “Well in a way that’s my job as a bard.” He wanted to shrug it off with a joke but was taken aback when he felt Geralt’s fingers interlacing with his own. “Geralt…” he said again, this time it was merely a whisper.
“I am glad to have you around, Jaskier, even if I make it seem different at times,” the witcher said. He squeezed Jaskier’s hand softly. “Never forget that.”
The bard looked down at their intertwined fingers and then up into Geralt's eyes. They were soft and Jaskier had a hard time focusing on the words he wanted to utter. "I… I won't" he said and cursed himself for stuttering. "Now shall we get down this stupid mountain?"
"Tomorrow," Geralt said. "We have enough food left and… I wouldn't mind spending an evening alone with my worthy travel companion."
Jaskier smiled. "Tomorrow it is."
~~~~
That's it for now. I hope you enjoyed this little something. I'll leave it up to your imagination how this scene might continue. If you like my writing, I have 2 more stories up already and I am finishing two mre which I might post over the next week.

garnet and poppy!
Hi @writernopal, I am really vibing hard with these two because you hit the elemental things of "The Dragon's Warrior" *takes a long calming breath*
GARNET - Are there gods?
Yes, there are gods. The only one who got named yet is the moon goddess Anande, who is also the goddess of beginnings and ends, who is the one who guides the souls from one plane to the other. She is there when a child is born, and she is there when someone dies.
The dragons call her the Silver One because they believe the thread of life is as silver as the moonlight.
How many gods will be there in the end, I don't know, I am still worldbuilding this part.
POPPY - What historical event does every student learn about?
*pushes my glasss up my noses like an old scholar*
The event everyone learns about is also the one crucial for the story.
Centuries ago, the continent was ruled by the council of the kings. Those kings were from all species and instead of waging war against each other, the council was called to sort things out and help each other. Depending on where you are, it is called the Golden Age or the Flourishing Age.
Things broke apart when a dragon prince and a human princess should marry at the wish of the dragon king because the prince and princess grew up together and were fond of each other. To the dragon king, it was a natural thing to strengthen the bond with their human neighbors.
The human king on the other side reacted badly because he already promised his daughter to a young dwarven king in exchange for a trading contract.
After receiving no reaction from the human king, the dragon king called for the council to sort this issue out, but the council didn't react to his call.
When the day of the wedding of the human princess and the dwarven king came to be, the dwarven king marched with his men through the dragon king's territory without further notice to reach his soon-to-be wife.
The dragon king saw this as a hostile action and deemed the dwarf and the human were allied against him, so he attacked the dwarven king and later the human king.
After this, the council broke apart and split into two sides, fighting teeth and bone against the other, which ultimately would mean the downfall of the dragon kings and queens of the old. No dragon survived this war that raged over the whole continent. So today, only their remains in the ground tell the story of times when dragons roamed the earth and the remaining kings descendants still fight till this day for the lost kingdoms to be theirs.
Well, that is the story of how Emersyn knows it, how every human, dwarf, and elf learns it who was born after the war. But Arkin and Asterlayna will be the proof dragons still exist and have a different story to tell about all this, since they got told to slumber back when all this happened.

My exchange fic for the Solas Lovers Exchange!
Fandom: Dragon Age, post Trespasser and Tevinter Nights
Characters: Varric, Solas, Cole, Regret demon, mentioned past Solavallen but no Lavellan in the actual story
Rating: T
https://archiveofourown.org/works/45532678
-
The (Regret) demon guffaws, great splatters of bloody mucus spraying from its wide maw. "I told them they were free. I told her she was free. She was beautiful in the twilight; eyes glowing bright in the aftermath of the ritual. It was a lie. I am a creature of pretty lies and ugly truths. I am the regret of all who know me."
The hollow feeling in his chest is familiar. Solas has thought these thoughts and felt these truths. This grotesque amalgamation is a painfully accurate representation of how it feels to have Mythal's stolen power burning in his veins. The wolf they created fights the dragon he never wanted to be, but he has no other choice if his plan is to succeed. There is only one road to victory. Every choice he's made for himself has cost him more than he gained.
"They frolic among the spirits, these creatures in cages of flesh. Wisdom, Curiosity, and Contemplation observe and comment on their every move. One spirit follows at a distance, entranced by their laughter and vivaciousness," Cole whispers into the thick silence. "They call themselves Evanuris. One among them offers it a way to join them."
"It is a trap, set by one who knew more than she revealed. Her regret turns me; twists me," the demon continues, crouching low; posture uncertain whether it should relax or prepare to leap. "I am no longer what I was meant to be. A goddess regrets the necessity of her actions. I am the regret of a god, of all the gods, of those who would be gods."
"What are they talking about?" Varric asks. His voice is calm, steady, and it is obvious the dwarf is not fully aware of what they face.
"You can hear, but not see what is happening?" Solas inquires, glad for the excuse to turn his attention away from the spiritual battle before him.
The hands on his shoulders briefly lift as Varric shrugs. "Just Cole talking to a wall of black mist again."
"Ah."
"You haven't answered my question."
"No."
The dwarf snorts. "I'll remember this when I'm writing the next Fen'Harel myth."
Solas groans. "Please don't."
"The slow arrow. Always too slow, too late, not enough. 'Kill the king's other daughter' they say in my voice. Perhaps I deserve all the infamy they have gifted me. I am the reason they are lessened, weak, hollow. I destroy every beautiful thing I have ever touched." The demon closes its scarlet eyes, turning its head away from them.

progress report: it's chewsdae innit
hello hello i slept most of the day away!
lately, at my job, there hasn't been a lot of work, so i have a lot of downtime, which i have spent sleeping instead of working on shadowing activities. don't tell my boss.
i've also been drawing a lot! most of them are of moz and ulysses, becauase i am incapable of stopping myself from drawing moments of tenderness between those two, but some have been of other ocs, too, like kiwi and my brand new baby, liksi tabris, from dragon age: origins, which brings me to....
played. dragon age: origins! i've already played like 5hrs of it a few years ago, as a dwarf, but i didn't really feel it. i am feeling it now, as a city elf, even though the first hour is... rough, to say the least. who thought that racism and the potential sexual abuse of the player character is a good way to introduce the game?? but i found myself engrossed, so i'll keep playing. here's to hoping i don't get bored with it.
listened. mania by fall out boy! they have a new single coming out on the 18th, so i gave this album a listen for the first time ever. i don't understand the hate that it gets? it's a solid album. not their best - that goes to folie a deux and infinity on high - but it's not as terrible as some fans make it seem. but some people just have visceral reactions to their faves changing up their sound. which is weird to me, because shouldn't you encourage growth and experimentation? if your art gets stagnant, you die. anyway, favorite song is HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON'T. this line fucks me up: "and when your stich comes loose / i want to sleep on every piece of fuzz and stuffing that comes out of you" pete is crazy for writing that!!!
youtube
watched. the menu (2022) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ a fun little feast. it's delicious to watch. i found it super funny, the way the eaters still thank the chef even after the craziness. the quiet acceptance of their death. the final exchange between margot and the chef. super funny. it's saying something about social cues, class, the service industry, etc, but i am not sure what. an incisive critique of society it is not. it is however, entertainment, and i was fully entertained. so it did the job.
the last of us s01e01 (2023) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ super good introduction!! i cried. it felt like a video game, almost? like i should be holding a controller. i actually don't know much about the world because i only played the first few hours, but i'm excited to watch it all unfold.
misc. have a self-portrait :)

Sign Ups are Open for Paragon 2022!
We will be accepting sign ups until June 19th at 11:59pm US EST.
If you are interested in signing up for the exchange, follow these three simple steps:
Go to the Sign Up form on AO3 (you will need to be logged into AO3, if you need an AO3 account please message us here)
Fill out your requests! Please put at least one character in each of the three request boxes, but you may put six characters in each field and add more boxes to give 10 request boxes and 60 characters (from the tag set). Characters can appear solo if they're requested alone or in platonic and romantic relationships if they're requested together unless there is a DNW: platonic or DNW: romantic in the request.
All characters appearing in one request box must appear in the work you're gifted UNLESS you specify otherwise. See example below
Tumblr media
You cannot put non-dwarven characters into your characters line, but you can add them in your prompt. Prompts are optional, but this allows you to request multiple relationships (platonic or romantic) in one request. Non-dwarven characters can be asked for in the optional prompts for specific relationships (platonic or romantic) but your gifter is not required to include non-dwarven characters. Ensure any prompts have something for that possibility! See example below:
Tumblr media
On the form, there is a place for you to go into details about what you want. This is a great place to put a prompt with your ideas for a fic or art! You do not need to go into detail, but you can go into as much detail as you like to give the creator ideas. You may also put this information on a third party site instead.
Good things to list: general likes, rating restrictions, prompt ideas, squicks/triggers/do-not-wants, any non-dwarven characters you'd like (non-dwarven characters are completely opt-in, if they are not requested in the prompt they cannot be included as a main focus in the work) or anything else you’d like the writer/artist to know.
Make sure you list things you do not want in the AO3 form so that DNWs can be enforced. We are insisting Authors and Artists adhere to the Do-Not-Wants and the characters, otherwise they have complete artistic license.
Fill out your offers! You must offer at least three characters and up to 60 using the same method as the requests. If you include multiple characters in the same offer box, you MUST be able to write all the characters in a platonic and/or romantic relationship.
You may choose Any as your offer. Any really does mean Any and you may get matched to anything in the tag set. Use it wisely.
There is also a box for any information you think the moderator team needs to know - ie if you wish to not be matched with another participant in the exchange. This information is confidential.
Your assignment will include at least one match between your offer and the other person’s request, but you may not match on all of them. You are also not beholden to complete the request you matched on, although you must complete at least one of the requests.
Sign-ups end on June 19th 11:59pm US EST. Matches will be received no later than June 20th 11:59pm US EST

8, 14, 19 for In Judgment + 18 just in general
In Judgment for the one shot asks!
8. Would you ever write a sequel or a second chapter to the one shot?
I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to writing more in this universe, no!
There was a lot of background that I’d fleshed out with regards to Cadash and their past and their complicated relationship with gender that simply didn’t make it into the actual fic, and I’d love specifically to write a story focused on Anders and Cadash learning from one another during the course of the Inquisition timeline. I especially would want to capture that feeling that comes with being in between, not only in the way Cadash feels about gender, but also how they feel being like, a common person elevated to a rank beyond their wildest dreams (and the class issues that arise from that!) They never wanted this power or responsibility, but they can’t turn their back on it now they have it — but surely they have a breaking point somewhere?
(Anders clearly had a breaking point, so maybe he can help Cadash figure that out. Or maybe at least figure out where to plant the next explosives :P)
I’d probably want to replay DAI before I did anything too plotty, though; it has been way too long! But now that Dragon Age has firmly grasped my brain again… perhaps?
14. What scene is most different to the original plan?
If I’d had more time on my hands I would have liked to flesh out the meetings between Cadash and Anders while he was still a prisoner of the Inquisition, add a little more tension and whatnot! There was also some fighting when Cadash releases Anders (hence why they have their blades with them at the end), but I couldn’t find a satisfying note to end the story after Cadash and Anders has fought out of the cells, so I decided to leave the rest of it implied, haha!
19. If the oneshot focuses on a ship, why did you pick this ship?
It was for an exchange, so I’m answering more with the mindset of what inspired me to offer/write this ship in particular!
Honestly when I signed up for the dwarf exchange last year I assumed I would probably write some Varric or something (as he’s the only dwarf I write regularly, and I’d written Cassarric the year prior), but then this Cadash/Anders sign-up caught my eye and honesty it kinda just fell into my brain from there and I rotated it in my mind for a few days until I felt confident enough to write it! I think the main thing that grasped my interest was writing the viewpoint of a sympathetic Cadash who hadn’t really given much thought to the plight of mages before that point, but is enamoured by like … Anders’s humanity, if that makes sense?
18. Do you have any plans for a new oneshot/several new oneshots?
Too many. God, TOO MANY. I’m always expanded on some unhinged concept-or-other in the back of my mind!
Not including things I’ve discussed as part of the recent WIP meme, the dragon age one shot ideas that I’ve been slowly rotating in my brain include:
1. Orsino and Cullen heading to Kirkwall after finding out about Meredith’s return
2. Sexy extrapolation of the Hira and Tassia interrogation scene
3. Five Times Tassia and Rezaren Kissed (and the one time they didn’t)
4. Elthina/Meredith with femdom and manipulation galore
5. Hawkedith where Hawke is giving Meredith a bath and Meredith just won’t. shut up!! about Anders—

There And Back It Up Again

Bilbo Baggins has been de-aged, rather against his will, to go back and save the trees apparently. Sent back to do his adventures all over again, just this time with more scars and new knowledge, and also make sure the plants of the world don't die. In exchange he has the chance to save his friends and change the tragic path of history. In being sent back his life force was bound to Thorin's in such a way that if he dies that Bilbo will go on living as he would have, but that Bilbo can live out the long years of a dwarf instead of a hobbit as long as Thorin is alive. So yeah, now Bilbo has to save the world, his family, and also a bunch of trees. And this time killing the dragon is definitely his problem.

Crosswind Isle
Crosswind Isle is a thriving island dominated by its massive port town. Colorful buildings dominate the western two thirds of the island. The rest is mostly field for grazing with a small orchard near the eastern shoreline.
Tumblr media
Point of Interest #1: Lady of the Seas
The Lady of the Seas is a large, comfortable hotel. With 100 rooms to rent, its everchanging denizens come from all over. The Lady was the first fortress built on the island, but it has been an inn for nearly 200 years.
The tavern is legendary for its food and rowdy atmosphere. Maude, the elderly orc innkeeper is nearly as legendary as the establishment.
She’s had the run of the place for 30 years. Rumors abound that she is a retired pirate. Her eldest son is a navy captain.
Point of Interest #2: Shrinehouse
The shrinehouse is not unlike the many other places of worship scattered across the seas. It houses small shrines to a variety of gods and is maintained by a handful of clerics. It is, however, notable for its size and diversity.
Mother Pelian is the longest serving cleric in Crosswind’s shrinehouse. An elf devotee of Artemis, she keeps her past a closely guarded secret. Parties that get into Mother Pelian’s good graces may be asked to retrieve her holy symbol from the forsaken lighthouse.
Point of Interest #3: Good Stuff
Good Stuff is a large house near the docks owned by the Brothers Echo three bat-like sprites named for their tendency to repeat after each other.
Whether the three sprites are siblings or not is uncertain as their story always changes.
The house is crammed full of oddities of varying value that the sprites seem to have organized based on a system known only to them.
They’re mostly useless for arrows, rope, and other standard bits of equipment, but if you need pickled newts of a particular vintage, purple dragon scales, missing pages of a book, or a magic sword, they almost certainly have it.
The Brothers Echo think highly of their wares and price accordingly, but they love music more than money. A good song is usually worth a reasonable discount.
Tumblr media
Point of Interest #4: Messrs. Croak & Enders
Among the colorful buildings on Crosswind’s High Street there is a single drab but immaculate black storefront. The sign by the door reads “Messrs. Croak & Enders, Established.”
The interior resembles a funeral home, and the two owners dress as undertakers.
Mister Croak is a squat, pallid man with a wide smile and pitch perfect manners. Mister Enders is a bit taller than the tallest person in the room with a distant expression and few words.
The truth about the strange duo is unknown, but the duo are tolerated because whatever it is they do doesn’t seem to be hurting anyone.
In truth, Croak and Enders do whatever needs doing. Croak and Enders were once the servants of a long-dead god.
They spent millennia seeking purpose and have found it as fixers. They usually expect some price to be paid (usually a favor) in exchange for their work.
They locate rare magic items, find adventuring parties, turn up obscure bits of lore, and very rarely slay dragons.
Tumblr media
Point of Interest #5: Elixirs & Brews
This simply named potion shop is run by the middle-aged Madam Delancey who has recently taken in her brothers family after their home on another island was ruined in a storm.
The potion making talent runs in the Delancey family, and (though now especially crowded) the shop has never been better stocked or more profitable.
Point of Interest #6: Crosswind Library
The Crosswind Library is a treasure trove of rare books and nautical charts. It is currently overseen by the elderly dwarf Harrier Seastone and his two young human assistants Willem and Beth who are hopelessly in love.
Point of Interest #7: Valiant Shipwright
Lucas Valiant is a young human man following in his father’s footsteps as a shipwright. The Valiant crew is famed for their versatility after years of working on the strange ships that visit Crosswind Isle.
Point of Interest #8: The Seafort
Newer construction than the Lady of the Seas, the huge walls of the Seafort sit closer to the waves and protect the island with powerful cannons.
The lizardfolk admiral Hazikar has few friends thanks to his aloof manner and unsentimental approach to protecting the city, but Crosswind’s leaders trust him.
Tumblr media
Point of Interest #9: Crosswind Lighthouse
The amateur elf mage Menlo lives in the lighthouse along with his seven half-elven daughters. Menlo settled on the island when he fell in love with the lighthouse keeper.
