"It was true that Anders had been changed by his union with Justice.  But Justice had begun to change him even before that, from the moment of their first meeting.
Back before Kirkwall, before Hawke, in Blackmarsh near Amaranthine, where the Veil had been stripped tissue-thin by dark magic, Anders and his companions had been thrown into the spirit world, and there they had found Justice.
Anders had, on occasion, encountered other friendly spirits in the Fade.  But those were like shy woodland creatures, fleeting about, silent and inscrutable.  Intelligent in their own way, but preoccupied with matters in which human beings played little part.
Justice was different.  Imposing, undeniable, like something out of a storybook.  Like something out of Anders's own childhood dreams, when he had drifted to sleep in petrified silence each night during his first lonely months in the Circle.
From the beginning, Anders had felt a sort of silent awe in Justice’s presence.  But with time, he realized that what he felt, more than anything, was shame.
He could see, now, his own veneer of carelessness, of casual disregard, for what it was.  A protective posture.  Armor against the world.  He had long ago learned that selfishness was something to hold onto when cruel experience made believing in anything else too painful.  Selfishness meant that he was permitted to save himself, even if he could save no one else.
But in Justice's presence, all of this, everything of his former life, suddenly struck him as pale and wanting.
There were, Anders knew, certain beliefs that he had always held onto, in a locked away, guarded part of his heart.  That the vulnerable would someday find the strength to unite against their oppressors.  That their oppressors would be cast down and face atonement.  And in Justice, these ideas suddenly stood before him, given form and voice.  They suddenly seemed not only possible, but necessary.
For his part, thrown into the mortal world and confined to the decaying body of Kristoff,  Justice could not help but take note of Anders as well.  It first struck him as odd that a person who burned with such a painful longing for righteousness was regarded by his mortal companions as little more than a charming scoundrel.  Then came the realization that this was intentional on Anders's part - a disguise.  Then, the realization that the disguise was not for others' sake, but for that of Anders himself.
He noted this, for example:  Anders liked to speak about the Circle's cruelties, or the templars who now hunted him, in an attitude of annoyance, glibness, arrogant superiority.  Always masking pain, masking anger.
When Justice finally named those things in earnest - You were a helpless child when you were taken and caged.  They should never again be allowed to lay their hands on another mage as they did you - Anders looked at him in real fear.
He was afraid because he knew what this would mean:  to acknowledge that feeling, to face it, to give it weight.  He knew where his desire for retribution would lead him.
That part - the endgame of all of this - was never in doubt.
But even back then, when Justice was still Kristoff and not yet Anders, his presence at Anders's side was a source of strength, almost intoxicating.  When they fought the templars who had come to recapture Anders, Justice did not hesitate to deliver the killing blow.  He seemed to regard the act as unquestionably right, as no more blameworthy than removing a dangerous weapon from the hands of a child.
Anders envied this certainty, fed off of it, felt emboldened by it, and desired it for himself.
[...]
Justice was able to recall the first moments of their union in a way Anders could not.  Feeling the different weight and motion of a living body around him, overcome by the blinding flare of a living consciousness, colliding with the surge of conflicted emotion that Anders carried within him, and, finally, merging with the mirrored longing for justice already present there.  More painful than Kristoff, more bewildering, but more ecstatic as well.
For Anders, it was different.  Unconsciousness, panic, a sense of absence, of his body suddenly becoming foreign to him.  The experience of possession.  He was lost for some time, even as Justice worked solicitously to help him find himself again, to lead him back to the surface.
In the days and weeks that followed, Anders found that all of the old parts of him were still there - memories, desires, fears, faults.  But something had cracked open inside him.  He had a sensation as though his innermost heart were suddenly bared to the world, raw and unprotected."
~ unison by zerodignity
I dislike people who prefer Awakening Anders and sneer at DA2 Anders, not because I dislike Awakening Anders (I didn't play it, so I can't say I dislike him), but because they miss the point of his character, just like the writers of his did. Anders is not a "bipolar terrorist" that was destined to blow up the Chantry in a misguided act of heroism that is actually a villainy. Anders is a person who commits something unthinkable because there was nothing else left. He tried for 7 years to change the fate of the mages and the only thing he got in return were more oppression, abuses and injustice. If he didn't do what he did, if he didn't remove the status quo forcibly, there would be no foundation to build mage's future on. His action was necessary. He didn't start the war, as it was started by the Templars themselves when mages voted for independence from the Chantry, but it had to be done to show that mages have enough of the status quo, that the change needs to happen. Anders before Justice was a man who hated Templars and desired justice, but never could actually pursue it, because his survival was far more important at the time. He acted the way he did, because it was easier, it was a convenient mask to hide behind, so he didn't have to face the reality of his own feelings. Justice changed all that. He allowed Anders to be truly himself. And albeit I mourn his ending in which he lives happily with the Wardens (which was retconned for the sake of DA2), Anders needed this change in himself. He needed this realization that his own survival is no longer the most important, and that he finally can put his anger to good use.

Saturday, November 11: Family, Lost and Found
Tag your content with #zevwarden week 2023 or @zevraholics on your post and we’ll reblog it here.
*Any art found to be whitewashing Zevran will not be shared.
Day 1 - Sunday, November 5 - Tradition and Trying New Things
"It's Antivan tradition to throw coins in such a well as this. Supposedly it brings one luck." Which traditions (cultural, familial, personal) do Zevran and the Warden have in common, and which are different? Are there any that are unfamiliar at first, but one of them shares with the other? What are ways the two of them break with the past, forge their own paths, or maybe even create new traditions?
Day 2 - Monday, November 6 - Secrets, Kept and Told
Morrigan, "Are [the Crows] so powerful simply because they are very good at what they do? Or is there some secret to their power?" Zevran, "If there were a secret, it would only remain so if it were not told, my dear." What secrets do Zevran and the Warden keep from other people? From each other? Are there any consequences of keeping secrets, positive or negative? What truths eventually reach the light of day, and how does that reveal come about?
Day 3 - Tuesday, November 7 - Fear and Safety
"You mean you want to hear about the grueling training? Being locked in an oubliette for weeks at a time? The slavery? The festering injuries? Or are we seeking something more glamorous?" / "Oh, those things never happened to me." There are stand-out moments of fear in the life of any Grey Warden or an Antivan Crow. Share a time one or both of them were terrified. Did they face fear bravely, or did it get the better of them? What was the impact of that moment? Or, share a story about a time the two of them found safety, comfort, or calm. How did that feeling come about? Was it short-lived or long lasting?
Day 4 - Wednesday, November 8 - Work and Pleasure
"Falling down a flight of stairs is an adventure. Falling into someone's bed? Also an adventure. I am assuming what you're looking for are professional anecdotes." How much adventuring do Zevran and the Warden get up to after Origins, either together or on their own? What jobs or titles do they come to have, what anecdotes do they have to tell? Or do they settle down for a quiet life somewhere—either restlessly or happily?
Day 5 - Thursday, November 9 - Bodies and Minds
Alistair, "So those... designs you have all over your back..." Zevran, "They're called tattoos. And I have them in many more places than just on my back, my friend." What stories do Zevran and the Wardens' bodies tell? How have their bodies changed over time? How do they carry themselves, or use gestures or mannerisms? What about a time when they ran, swam, fought, or enjoyed other physical movement? Or focus your work on a part of the body - eyes, hands, hair, scars.
Day 6 - Friday, November 10 - Favorite Things and Pet Peeves
"I fancy many things. I fancy things that are beautiful and things that are strong. I fancy things that are dangerous and exciting.Would you be offended if I said I fancied you?" What are Zevran and the Warden's favorite things about each other? How did they discover those favorite things—slowly over time, or in one particular moment? What things get on their nerves about the other person? Is this something they make an effort to change, or does their partner just have to learn to live with it?
Day 7 - Saturday, November 11 - Family, Lost and Found
"Surely your life has not been so idyllic? People like you and I are not the product of happy lives of contentment, after all." Maybe the Warden resonates with that particular line from Zevran, maybe they don't. What does being part of a family mean to the Warden and Zevran? Does the answer change across different points in their lives? If they regard each other as part of a family, is there anyone else involved in their family? (Friends, other lovers, biological or adopted children, elders?)

I can never bring myself to Sacrifice Hawke, I can’t stop thinking of Anders, Of Varric, of any of them really. And picturing Varric having to write letters to everyone to let them know just hits real hard.

Happy Friday! How about "look i’m not coddling you, i’m just trying to help. i wanna take care of you cause i, you know— care about you." for Fenders? 💖
Thank you! A wonderful opportunity for another fenders @dadrunkwriting ficlet.
---
“Go away.”
Anders wrings out a tea towel, spins it in the air a few times, and drapes it over Fenris’ forehead. “No.”
Fenris sniffles, his voice turning nasal. “I’m fine.”
“You’re not.”
“You don’t know that. Leave me alone.”
Anders sighs. “I do, in fact, know that.” He takes the mug of tea he made half an hour ago and discreetly warms it back up in his hand. “Come, sit up and drink the tea.” He takes the towel away and slides his hand behind Fenris’ back to help him up.
“I can sit,” Fenris huffs. But he takes the mug and drinks from it, so Anders counts it as a win. Fenris glares at him over the rim of the mug. “You don’t need to coddle me.”
“I’m not coddling you, I’m just trying to help.” Anders leaves Fenris’ side, before the pink shade on his cheeks can give him away. Not only is Fenris adorable in this state of sniffling grumpiness, he also doesn’t have to know how much Anders needs to take care of him. How solid that need sits in his chest and beats in time with his heart. “I’m a healer, It's what I do.”
“What good of a healer are you if you can’t make this go away?” Fenris gestures at his red and puffy nose, his face scrunches up, and Anders shoves a handkerchief into his hand, just as his whole body gets shaken by a sneeze. He falls back onto the pillow with an exhausted sigh.
Anders turns to the table where he set up a workstation with mortar and pestle and a variety of herbs and roots. “I can help you with the symptoms, but I can’t magic away the cold. Your body has to fight this itself.”
“What is your magic good for, then?” Fenris mumbles into the pillow.
“For helping you sleep, if you let me,” Anders says as he grinds up herbs and steeps them in hot water. “And for getting hunted and arrested and made tranquil,” he continues quietly. Carrying the mug with the new infusion over to Fenris’ bed, he keeps his eyes on the mug, careful not to spill anything. “Here, drink this, it will calm the symptoms. You’ll sleep better and I won’t even have to use magic.”
When he looks up, Fenris stares at him. Anders sets the mug on the sidetable and sits down on the mattress to help Fenris sit up again. “What?” he asks when Fenris just keeps staring.
“They hunt you,” Fenris says, as if he just now realises it.
“Yes. Now, sit up one more time and drink this. You’ll feel better.”
Fenris dutifully sits up and drinks, looking at Anders the whole time. When he lies back down, his eyes flit around, looking anywhere but at him.
“What is it?” Anders asks.
Fenris’ gaze snaps to him, which would look more impressive if he didn’t have a drop of snot hanging on his nose. “What do you mean?”
Anders hands him another handkerchief. “You want to say something.”
Frowning, Fenris blows his nose. “How do you know that?”
“I’ve known you for years. You’re fidgeting when you want to say something but don’t know how.”
A huff, but it turns into a sniffle. “I don’t fidget.”
Anders barely stops himself from rolling his eyes. “Just tell me.”
“Everything hurts,” Fenris says quietly. “The markings, my arms, everything.”
“Do you allow me a gentle healing spell? Just for that pain?”
“Yes,” Fenris says, turning away. “Please.”
Anders swallows all snarky remarks he could provide right now, easily, and focuses on the spell, letting his magic spread over Fenris’ body. He watches him for signs of disapproval, but Fenris’ face relaxes and his hands unclench as the spell dulls the pain. Anders keeps the magic up on a low level, just enough to help Fenris relax. “You should sleep now,” he whispers.
Fenris closes his eyes and turns to the side. When he tugs the duvet around his body, Anders hears Fenris mumble, “I still do not understand why you are here.”
“Because I care,” Anders says, wiping the hair away from Fenris’ forehead and dabbing it with the wet towel. Stepping back from the bed, he looks at Fenris’ sleeping form. “Because I'm a fool and I care about you,” he whispers to himself.

Rating: M | Category: M/M | Words: 30 839 | Chapters 14/28
Summary:
When Magister Dorian Pavus' expedition meets unexpectedly with a clan of unhappy Dalish elves, First Taren Lavellan may be the unhappiest among them. Unhappier still to be put to the task of helping to see his quest through. This is the tale of how a fortnight in the forests of the Free Marches can change everything.
From the top
Ch. 14: A Lesson in Responsibility
Snippet:
“The last time the clan travelled through these parts, I was needed with them,” he explained. This admittance held more of that hidden embarrassment, a shortness to the usually even candour of his accented speech. “Even now, we could not spare the people, but then you came along,” he sighed, but the words contained less malice than Dorian had come to expect. “The clan will be moving early, we won’t return until the forest heals. A few seasons, at least. Our hunters needed to come out this way to prepare, and with your —” he faltered, “the help of your people, your supplies…” And here, Dorian understood. The great upset his witless companions had caused in alighting the forest and abandoning their slaves had benefited him, in a roundabout way. The slaves who wished to join clan Lavellan would now help his people prepare to travel, the supplies and gold taken from Dorian’s looted packs meant that elves of the clan who might have been sent to trade were free to join him, and meanwhile the hunt had to be sent further out. All of it allowed the bright-eyed, story-telling First to set out for the mythic temple he had, apparently, a longstanding fascination with. He had only to chaperone Dorian through the forest, and that too had benefits besides his own winning charm. He was, after all, another mage.  “So… you’re using me, my resources and my people, to do something you wanted to do all along?” Dorian concluded, settling back with the first genuinely smug smile he’d ever been able to direct at this self-important elf.

Welcome to the Fourth Annual ‘14 Days of Dragon Age Lovers’ Prompts Event!
I am so excited to be back to host this event for the fourth year in a row. I have a fun new list of prompts to get into the spirit of Valentine’s Day with some of our favorite Thedosian characters, and I cannot wait to see what this years list sparks for all of you!
As always, please make sure that you read through the events rules page (which is outlined below the cut) before you decide if this event is for you.
Let’s start with the basics!
How does the event work?
It’s pretty simple!
Step 1: Post your content
Step 2: Make sure to tag the event page (@14daysdalovers)
Step 3: Add the tag #14DALovers (don’t forget to add the prompt and pair tags)
It’s that easy! I will reblog all contributions to the event page for everyone to enjoy in one easy to find location.
I am hosting this event solo, so please be patient with me for reblogs. If I have missed your post and it hasn’t been posted on the blog page by the following day, don’t hesitate to DM me here with a link to your post. I will do my very best to make sure any content contributed is added in a timely manner so it can be viewed + enjoyed by the other participants!
Who can participate?
Anyone over 18 years old can participate! This event will allow adult themes and NSFW content, so unfortunately minors are asked to kindly please not to participate. Please make sure your posts are tagged as NSFW (lemons, etc) if they fall into that category, and tag anything potentially triggering.
How long does the event run?
The event will run for the month of February. Even though the prompts list only has 14 prompts, I want it to be a fun and relaxed event, so I am not putting deadlines on content submissions. Don’t have a piece of fan art/fanfiction finished on the 1st for the first prompt? No big deal! Just submit your content when you finish it and I will reblog it regardless of the date. The last day to submit your pieces for the event will be the 28th so make sure you post them before the end of the day to have them added to the event page.
Which fandoms & pairings will the event cover?
The event will be open to pairings from any of the Dragon Age games, novels, etc. Any pairing from the fandom as a whole, including rare pairs, are allowed and encouraged as long they are respectful to the character. Please make sure you tag your posts with your ship pairing!
What kind of content is allowed?
The event is open for original works of fanfiction, fan art, 2D and 3D rendered pieces. No mood boards or playlists please for copyright purposes. NSFW content is allowed as long as it is between two consenting characters. This is supposed to be an uplifting feel good event, but I understand the need for conflict, angst and drama in certain pieces to build a mood. However it should go without saying that any ‘dark’ content will be frowned upon and will not be added to the event page.
Here is a list of content that will absolutely NOT be permitted for the event;
• Content that changes a queer character to a straight character.
• Graphic violence/torture or angst for the sake of torturing a character.
• Any content that is racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, ageist, etc.
• Incest
• Underage
• Non-con/rape
• Kink-shaming
• Basically if it’s not respectful don’t submit it!
The purpose of the event is to most importantly have fun and uplift your fellow content creators! Comments and reblogs are encouraged, but please keep them respectful. Anyone leaving negative comments or tags on content posts will have their content removed from the event page and be blocked from participating in the event further.
That about sums it up! My ask box and inbox are open for any questions or concerns you might have so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any.
I can’t wait to see all the wonderful romantic Dragon Age content!

Spirit Inquisitor Headcanons
This ask comes from an anonymous user who asks: "I was wondering if I could request the inner circle reaction towards finding out that their inquisitor is a spirit like Cole, like first meeting them and how'd they get along with them or how would they treat the Quizzy after finding out, maybe the inquisitor is a 'Hope' spirit since in lore it stated Hope and Faith are very rare spirits so maybe the Inquisitor was attracted to the real world due to the hope of both templar and mages in the conclave"
I absolutely ADORED this ask and had so much fun with it. I'm even entertained by the idea of an actual oneshot or fic... And for those of you that sent in other requests, I see them! Just getting to them slowly.
WARNINGS/TAGS: Inquisitor is referred to in the 3rd person with they/them pronouns as to keep it open for everyone, Hawke has a mention and uses she/her pronouns, There's a small mention on Anders and Justice/Vengence, most of this is sweet/fluffy in my opinion
Tumblr media
The Inquisitor wasn’t always a spirit. In the grand scheme of things, the change has been fairly new–at least compared to Cole.
They went to the Conclave to watch the discussions between the mages and the templars. Unlike many others, they were hopeful for new beginnings and opportunities that would occur as a result. However, after the Conclave exploded, they were one of the many to be caught by the wreckage.
The Fade was already very thin at the site of the explosion, due to the nature of its cause. So, it’s not unreasonable for spirits to pass through. It’s not long before a spirit of Hope finds its way through one of the many rifts, it hopeful of the same thing that the Inquisitor wanted. Having similar wants, the spirit of Hope merges with the body of the would-be Inquisitor.
When they awake, they have no recollection of who they were before—only filled with a strange sense of levity despite the awful situation they’re in. They’re a bit uncoordinated, almost like a large child that isn’t quite sure what they’re supposed to do just yet. However, after the journey to the Breach alongside Cassandra, they become more in tune with the skills of who they used to be.
In the beginning everyone is very quick to dismiss the strange behavior of the Inquisitor, chalking it up to them being shaken up from the Breach or some sort of residual magic left within them. However, as time goes on and they don’t seem to be recovering any memories, suspicions begin to arise. However, they’re such a sweet and optimistic soul, dedicated to leading the cause, that no one can stay put-off by them.
When Cole appears, there’s an immediate connection. The two are so similar it’s almost eerie. Neither seems to know exactly what they are, but they know that they are like each other. Hope and Compassion easily find a place alongside each other, and this uncanny similarity is what begins to raise Cassandra’s red flags—that it’s not just amnesia or a strange personality trait of the Inquisitor’s.
At Skyhold, the implications become far more severe. When the Inquisitor’s family writes letters and sends for them, they simply tell Josephine that they’re not quite sure who those people are or what they want. Their mother only says that the Inquisitor has the face and name of their child, but there’s a strange absence of everything else.
It’s Hawke who points it out to Varric. From the moment she meets the Inquisitor she can identify what’s wrong. At first she could never tell when Anders was truly Anders or when Justice and Vengeance had seeped into his mind, but by this point it’s burned enough into her mind that she can see it in the Inquisitor. Of course, it’s different here: whoever the Inquisitor was before, they’re very much dead—Hope now piloting the body. Hawke is relieved that they’re not fighting over control on the inside; that has been Anders’ demise after all. Varric doesn’t want to admit the similarities, too afraid to face the same situation again.
When it becomes clear that the Inquisitor is dead and they’re actually a spirit of hope, reactions are mixed among the Inner Circle.
Cassandra is very off-put initially. The concept scares her a great deal, but she eventually comes to terms with it. After all, she had begun to respect the Inquisitor for their devotion to the future. That respect couldn’t disappear at the mention of a spirit. The same could be said of Blackwall. Leliana and Josephine are also puzzled, but I think they’re both more open to it than Cassandra.
Cullen is admittedly very afraid. He’s still apprehensive of anything spirit-related since that night at the Circle Tower. However, he is won over by seeing the caring nature of the Inquisitor—and their hope for him on his journey to wellness.
Vivienne reacts very similarly to how she reacts to Cole. She’s ready to pull her support of the Inquisition immediately, but there is something about the Inquisitor that’s very endearing to her. I think their devotion to help her, even after she treated them so rudely, was enough to get her to stay.
The Inquisitor being a spirit makes no difference to Sera, Dorian, or The Iron Bull. They’ve certainly seen or heard of stranger things.
The relationship the Inquisitor has with Solas is very deep and profound. He seems to understand what’s happened almost immediately, and encourages the Inquisitor to touch into their spirit-side. Of course, he educates them on their origins and the Fade. They even journey there together many times.
Varric is still haunted by the image of Anders, so he’s hesitant to fall back into their friendship. However, after some encouragement from Hawke, he does his best to continue interacting with the Inquisitor again. It’s then that Varric realizes that he never knew who came before, but he does very much know he’s talking to in that moment—his friend, the Inquisitor.
And of course, Cole and the Inquisitor are virtually inseparable. They share such a strange coincidence, that it’s only natural they get along so well. They each understand the other and their own personal confusions, providing support for the other as they battle with the question of Who am I?
It takes a while for everyone to get used to saying it out loud: that whoever the Inquisitor used to be was actually dead a long time ago and that they had been inhabited by a spirit for as long as they had known them. But after they say it out loud, they realize it doesn’t make too much of a difference. Just as Varric realizes, everyone else does too; Their friend isn’t the body, but the Hope inhabiting it.

7. Lassitude
On the outskirts of Haven, Solas ponders the implications of all that has occurred—and what is to come.

Snippet:
The fledgling Inquisition was… peculiar. That was the best way Solas could describe it, as he roamed the outskirts of Haven. Its leaders painted a convincing, even inspiring picture: The Left and Right Hands of the Divine, an accomplished ambassador, a templar Knight-Commander turned to noble cause—but no one knew what to make of the man who stood at the center of it all.
Solas certainly did not. The man was tranquil, bearing a mark of magic that was never meant to exist, magic that was beyond even his own understanding, left standing in the wake of what should have been certain death. To make matters more confusing, Solas had watched that tranquility break and then be renewed with the ebb and flow of the Fade, never once seeing any indication of magic aside from that of the mark itself.
Not that it seemed to bother anyone else. Here in Haven, the Herald’s tranquility was a well-kept secret, hidden from the eyes of the public. There were rumors whispered in dark alcoves, spread with hushed tones swept away in the night, but these were ultimately quelled before they had time to gain traction. Those with closer ties to the Inquisition leaders knew more, but they remained tight-lipped under the Spymaster’s scrutiny.
It was simpler, Solas imagined, to ignore the less savory parts of the image their Herald presented.

Had some time to draw! I’ve been so busy for the past few months I haven’t gotten to draw or write so it was nice to have some of my nagging inspirations out lol
