Some amazing shots from the Bendigo Easter Festival down in Victoria, Australia
The Festival hosts possibly the largest gathering of lion dancers in the southern hemisphere, and is also home to the longest imperial dragon in the world - Dai Gum Loong

These are Quetzal Coils and Quetzal Coils 2.
For a change of mediums - a very slight change, I know - I used the Blick Studio colored pencils. These pencils have a harder lead than Prismacolors, so the layering technique I used is quite a bit softer. Instead of squishing the colors together to make gradients, I build up layers slowly. I work from dark to light (which is backwards, as I understand it, but I mostly think things out of the ordinal anyway, so working "backwards" has always made the most sense), building up the layers gradually and blending the values together to get some nice, soft color transitions.
I used a gold paint pen on the green one as well. Each quetzalcoatl also has a stone - the orange one has a carnelian on its head, and the green one has an opal triplet just below its head.
I would compare the Blick Studio pencils to Caran d'Ache pencils. The Caran d'Ache are quite expensive and have a really exquisite layering ability (and high pigment-to-binder ratio), but the Blicks, at a quarter of the price, do a really impressive job as well. They have more binder and take more layering to get the job done, but I still highly recommend these pencils if you like hard leads and don't want to sell a kidney for nice coloring tools.
