You know, with the fact that Ryn went and got herself petrified within a day of finding out just how willing the Ruby Vanguard are to fuck a wizard up, I do think that, while the bar is very low, Essek (as he is during the course of the campaign) really does deserve some credit for never ending up in such a self-imposed pickle that he needed his allied party to show up and save him from himself. In fact, the only time the Nein directly felt the need to worry about him was when Caleb put him in danger without thinking through certain connections that would be made, and even then, that was more of Caleb feeling guilt-ridden about it than actual worrying.

And to be very clear, Essek absolutely was and still to this day in canon is in a massive, self-imposed pickle, but when it actually comes down to it, the Nein were pretty tangential and superfluous to navigating that, and he's predominantly doing the work himself.

IEYTD/WoF AU

I'm planning to draw something for this, but just have to share some of my ideas first lol.

Agent Phoenix is a SkyWing who was turned into a scavenger/human via an animus curse. This makes them the only scavenger in an Agency full of dragons, which has its pros and cons. Needless to say, Zor is absolutely infuriated that their plans are being foiled by a small, squishy creature that should be nothing but prey.

As for (almost) everyone else as dragons:

Oh this person literally stole from Vlaakith's armory, oh and the thing she stole can literally unmake Vlaakith's rule.

Coming into Skyrim from Blackreach resulted in a lot of sharp culture shocks for Chigura but what unsettles him most is not the people or the politics. It's the sky. He really does not like how endless and bright it is. He can't sleep under the sky without something covering his face because moonlight is too much for his eyelids to block out. The daylight actively hurts his eyes and makes it harder for him to see.

He does not like grass, or the way that the topside water is perfectly clear. The nirnroots are wrong. Every person looks so...plain? Boring? Hard to tell apart, at the least. He doesn't know how Nords remember who's who, with how indistinct they all seem to be from one another. Race relations are confusing and frustrating, religious concerns are a whole jar of worms he'd never opened before, the reachfolk his people descended from are all Emphtek*. Prior to the return of Vulthuryol, Chigura had never thought about what life would be like outside of Blackreach. It was like asking "what if the world was made of pudding?" It seemed impossible. Now that impossibility has come to pass and he is STRUGGLING with his "normal human" cosplay so much that the vigilants of Stendarr are on the hunt for him.

Even the simpler, easier to explain things still present challenges he did not consider himself capable of having. A year into his quest, and he still instinctively reaches for his khopesh any time he passes a monk or a priest on the street. When he speaks with them, the outright malice and disgust will always seep into his voice. Mara and Malacath are different gods and their followers will get SO MAD if you conflate them. For reasons that escape Chigura's comprehension, because the Blackreach conception of Mara and Malacath is that they are one in the same. The two sides of love.

Mara and Malacath are separate gods, water is clear here, and everyone looks the same to him.

Let’s talk the Black Dragon Coalition.

Or, I’m tired and a little bored so it’s mhw time

Let’s meet some characters, for the sake of ease, we’re giving everyone names.

The hunter is Eltrys Nym Mulharaynd. He is 22 years old, half wyverian and from Pokke village originally. An archer by trade, Eltrys joined the guild after killing a barrioth that attacked the village, more accurately he was recruited by the guild. He can pass as human so long as he covers his ears. Eltrys is selectively mute, talking rarely and to a select few people.

The palico is Rayne. They’ve been with Eltrys since we’ll before either even thought of joining the guild. Prior to meeting Sun, Rayne was El’s main communicator.

The handler is named Sun-Rai Jessel, though Eltrys calls her Sunflower. She’s 19 when she travels to the new world. She took a liking to Eltrys very quickly, particularly after the shipwreck, and the two formed a brother-sister relationship. Sun is fluent in both common and wyverian sign, so acts as Eltrys’ translater.

The field team leader is Cambien Dalyn’Roth. Born and raised in the new world, Cambien doesn’t quite grasp certain old world concepts. 26 years old at the time of the elder crossing, what he lacks in experience, he more than makes up for with endless enthusiasm.

Excitable A-lister is Aiden Rand. A childhood friend of Eltrys, the two joined the guild around the same time. He juxtaposes Eltrys in nearly every way, cheerfully optimistic and talkative to the archer’s stoic silence. He knew Eltrys was have wyverian before the incident. He is madly in love with his handler (very much an r/the straights are okay couple).

New characters include:

Dervanin Mulharaynd, Eltrys’ father and his human parent. A guild hunter and an archer. He was wrongfully imprisoned when his wife was murdered and their home burned to the ground. He believed Eltrys, who was around 7 at the time, also died. The pair are eventually reunited, even if it is under rather shit circumstances.

Calaxco Quintyris. A wyverian originally of the third fleet, Cal got separated from the scholars during the accident that stranded the third fleet in the highlands and was presumed dead. In the time he’s been on his own, Calaxco has perfected taming monsters. He himself rides a legiana named Cryox.

Shivi, Aiden’s Palico. Objectively the goodest boy.

Falling in love, again, with more OCs 🤷🏼

Yesterday my wife saw the color-coded post-it note tabs in one of my Fantastic Beast companion books and was like, “Can you make your next hyperfixation or special interest housekeeping?” and at first I almost walloped her, because rude, and then she quickly explained, “I’m just saying, in a perfect world where we could funnel your ridiculous ability to obtain and organize massive amounts of information into exactly what we needed, our house would be immaculate” and I was like “yes ma’am, and unfortunately they’re disorders for a reason”

We both had a good laugh. I then posted a fic I’d been working on, confident I’d be able to switch my brain back to another longtime interest (my research) after getting the current FB plot bunny out of my head…
