I just feel some kinda special way about being underground, immersed in a world so few get to see. The sound of the running water echoing.. the tricks your mind plays when dripping noises turn into anything else, the PITCH blackness when you turn off your flashlight. The thump-thump of cars running over manhole covers. The smell of moss and rainwater and decaying leaves. The age-old graffiti worn away by the water. The knowledge that the chances of me running into someone else down there are paper thin. The thrill of not knowing what buildings or roads I'm under until I find a gutterbox I can look out of to see if I can figure it out. Ugh. Everything about it is so incredible. I need to go in more drains this summer for sure.

It's also just so cool how you never know what you'll run into down there... Junctions and drain features are so unique, particular to the region, the materials available, the people involved in constructing them, revisions made over the years... Every drain is so unique and has so many stories to tell

And even beyond that... The relationship they have to the surface. Without the stormwater system in any city, the city wouldn't exist. Along with electrical, gas, and water lines, they make up the physiology of a city, the life that lies under the surface, and there's a certain romance in that. Especially because of how little they're thought about... They just quietly do their job, supporting every life that goes on above them, content to be unnoticed. And I think that just makes it all the more special when someone takes the time to care

I have not thought about @dracocheesecake's and mine common TDC AU, the Natives AU in which both Skeksis and Mystics are actually normal species from Thra with their own societoes and not linked there is no Dark Crystal no Darkening and no draining, and the main conflict is mostly SkekSo being an imperalist who knows he will die from a Skeksis disease with Darkening-like symptoms soon so he goes "fuck it Imma conquest the others and expand my lands and make our species the grandest on Thra to leave in a blast and be remembered as a hero for future Skeksis generations and thus immortal", in a while ! Better remedy because I recently got FRESH IDEAS AGAIN @ohfugecannada you will be happy !

And like all of us fans wyo make AUs we can't help but imagine what the canon characters would think meeting their different yet similar selves from alternate universes, I sure do when I make AUs, imagining canon and AU versions chatting casually and being shocked at the differences

And then it hit me yesterday or the day before yesterday

If the 2 universes, the canon Thra and AU Thra converged one way or another

The Skeksis and Mystics in that AU being from Thra as much as the others

They would have essence in them

So I DOUBT the canon Skeksis would just chat with their selves

They would capture them and figure that if they drink from themselves it should be the ultimate immortality potion, plus taller species more essence

And I have the vivid picture in mind I may draw one day of canon So watching with a smirk Natives!So being drained and weakly begging for mercy as a vial is being filled

And even I shudder at such a thought

ROUTINE

i get that people crave routine - they like the stability and certainty of a routine. and a routine does help me sometimes but whenever i fall into a a repeating cycle i finding myself crawling to get out of it.

it gets draining and exhausting.

but i guess that may just be because i haven’t found the right routine for me.
