#drawing high school versions of them is fun

3. What ideas come from when you were little
I have two OCs that have really stood the test of time: Akane and Kin - though their names have changed over time haha ♪ They were the first ever queer couple I made, long long loooong before I was out even to myself and shock among shocks, they're angels lol ♥ I remember I even wrote a short story about them from like - middle school probably?? as part of an assignment haha. They've been with me for a loooong time, and I'm still very fond of them 💕
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
GLaDOS is so beautiful and I am so bad at drawing machine parts jfdklsasdf. I'm determined to draw her from both games now tho! Her design in Portal 1 is so weird!! <3
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
Plushies, no contest. Drawings the seams and darts and stitches and wear and fluff and fabric vs. fur I just ugh it's all so satisfying! The way the cloth folds over itself or stands firm on its own over well-stuffed filling! I love plushies!! Funny enough, I rarely use them as props tho haha - that's usually things like books, cups, pencils, etc.
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
I haven't heard the complaint in earnest in a while, just in a jokey fashion, but I really really enjoy drawing hands :) Hand expressions are so fun to me! They're just as expressive as faces - especially masked characters haha - and they're so versatile! Come in so many shapes, some hard, some rubberhose wiggly, some sharp and Shaped, but they still all emote similarly. Even just slight position changing can change the temperature of how it reads! It's a challenge for sure but it's just so satisfying >:3c
#Woah an original post#Ask#Ask me#Thank you! :D Fun fun!!#I always love talking about my own lads hehe <3 <3#If I had to guess a year to put to Akane and Kin oh gosh hmm...#Somewhere around 2008/9 if I had to guess?? It's hard to keep track from before I was online haha and I joined kind of late#I've had them for a heck-while! I love them ♥ It's not shown in their tag I linked but I also made some Aarakocran versions of them haha#I still have a lot of the journals and stuff from when I was a kid but none of them have been as long-lasting#I think it's probably because I was very ''inspired'' by what I was reading at that time - which was mostly high school romance lol#Aya and Haruka are almost more like self-parody of that haha - not many characters survived from that time#But Akane and Kin were always in that vague sort of adults sort of teens haze that lets them convert over easily#Their problems weren't related to school or anything so it makes them more versatile :)#I wonder if I still have their short stories anywhere - I also cried while writing one of them lol I've always been the sensitive type haha#Sorry if GLaDOS is the obvious answer lol but it's true! I'm slowly improving but she really is difficult to pin down#Any kind of machinery my brain just blanks out lol. ''It is shaped'' ''How?'' ''Yes'' Pfft#Also rude to imply nature is inanimate! I almost mistakenly said tree but they are animate! They're very alive!#But that's alright - I like drawing trees but I don't very often haha#I really do love drawing plushies tho I lose my mind about them they're so cute <3 Send me pictures of your plushies I will love them /gen#And for hands I mean - I've been enjoying drawing them for so long that it almost feels like the Curse of Knowledge lol#Do people genuinely struggle with hands?? I mean I still do at times - especially closed fists or certain angles#But in general? When they're just hanging out and being silly fruity little appendages?#Or with ASL or the like ♥ They're so fun! My latests have been working with more knuckles than usual haha it feels weird#I never have to worry about same face syndrome with hands! They really feel so intuitively individual haha

Tumblr media
oooooh my god I'm so happy I finally got to draw the super tall monster high heels on someone!! Vil was by far, the character I had the most references saved for. I gotta say, the main inspiration to me was actually Vil's overblot form, probably my favorite design in game, mixing a bit of the religious references it had, I thought of a fallen angel for his scare-itage! I almost went with vampire, inspired on Elissabat's character, but I want to avoid as much as possible repeating the types of creatures the twst cast will be in this AU, and the vampire idea is reserved for a very obvious someone else from diasomnia!
The cons of having too many visual references and inspirations is that it's so difficult to choose only one outfit for the final version. I searched a lot of inspiration in drag, and the ones that clicked with my idea the most were some stuff Pabllo Vittar and Gottmik wore (I'm obssessed with them, you have no idea), if you squint you can see I loosely based Vil's makeup look on Gottmik's lol
There's also the two different patterns I made for Vil's dress. Neither of them were what I originally had in mind, turns out stained glass art is pretty difficult to replicate, but for now I judge these two look decent enough? I struggled to choose only one of them to put on the official character sheet, and I just went with the one on the right because it took longer for me to draw it 😭 you can consider both of them "canon" I guess? I don't think I have a preference between the two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lore-wise I don't have any really relevant or detailed notes. Vil's personality and backstory pretty much remains the same, I think it fits in this universe as well. I could add to the story that the real reason he doesn't use his wings is because angels lose parts of their supernatural powers once they are cast out of heaven, but Vil prefers not to admit it. Also I think it would be fun if their actual angel form was one of those otherworldly cool burning wheels while this one is baisically just a cloak, for practicality, you know?
bonus doodle because I was in a good mood when I drew this:

LasAbarcas Base Game Save File 1.0
My Base Game Save File is complete!!! Download it here!
UPDATED VERSION AS OF 3/18:
OLD VERSION:
My goal with this save was to make the base game feel super ALIVE and full of personality - basically what we all wanted the base game to be originally. This save is full of lore: each household has a story (some inspired by iconic Sims lore, others original), each Sim has relationships outside their home, each world has a description and each neighborhood within each world is built with a very specific vibe that draws particular Sims to live there, all community lots (and some residential lots) have descriptions, and even the graves (and ghosts) at the Willow Creek church graveyard tell a story. There are TONS of community lots in this save that all feel different from one another and are designed with different kinds of Sims (personalities, career types, ages, etc.) in mind to give everyone multiple things to do outside the house.
All lots were built using only the base game (disclaimer: occasionally my game adds pack-specific items, like a kind of food, during playtesting, so it might say there is a pack-specific item on a lot but it's not meant to be there!), but many lots were built with other packs in mind. For example, the save has restaurants, a boba shop/thrift story, a cafe/retail space, a community garden, a high school, and so on that are base game only. So, if you only have the base game or limited packs, it should feel like you have more to do than the base game provides and open up your gameplay with a little imagination.
If you do have more packs, the lots should easily convert to their intended lot type to allow more functionality. You should also find things that come in other packs available in the save. For example, many Sims have university degrees, all Sims have cold/hot weather clothes, there are loads of clubs for Sims to be in (each with a description - MORE LORE hah!), and the calendar is filled with holidays/events.
Here's a little tour of the Save:
WILLOW CREEK:
Tumblr media
Most families in Willow Creek have lived here for generations. These families strongly value their roots and create such a strong sense of Willow Creek identity that the transplant families have taken on this identity as well, leaving the town full of people who proudly work to preserve and celebrate the town’s vibrant history and traditions. Families in Willow Creek tend to have a more traditional approach to family life/dynamics and care about the family’s image/status within Willow Creek.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OASIS SPRINGS:
Tumblr media
Oasis Springs had its heyday several decades ago when its space exploration industry was booming, but when the industry fizzled out, the town lost a lot of business, wealth, and residents. However, those that remain take pride in their retro desert town and clearly see what remains: a beautiful, unique, special place to call home. Families in Oasis Springs tend to be a bit quirkier, care little about what other people think about them, and focus more everyday happiness than career success.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NEWCREST:
Tumblr media
Newcrest is a very family-friendly neighborhood filled with fun for all ages. Families here tend to be a bit more laidback – they are willing to go with the flow and enjoy the messiness that comes with growing up. The Newcrest residents are a supportive bunch of people who enjoy each other’s company and have a healthy balance between careers/school, hobbies, and spending time with family and friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I will also be releasing a Limited Packs Save with version one containing updates to Copperdale and Strangerville coming soon, as well as a No Limits Save down the line.
I hope you all download and enjoy!! Please let me know what you think and if you notice anything that needs updating.
Thanks!

word count: almost 14k! don't judge me pls, i've been sitting on this for a few weeks.
prompt requests are always open!
alternate ao3 link
There was something therapeutic about sitting alone during lunch, watching chaos take place in front of you; from kids running around the cafeteria, traveling from table to table, conversing among themselves, yelling to each other from across the room, even standing up on tables like a stage and yelling out to the entire high school class. Eddie Munson was an enigma. You couldn’t figure him out. Other than him dealing you weed under the table and the occasional class you had with him, you hadn’t spoken more than ten words to him at one time.
So, he might find it slightly weird that you’ve drawn him in your sketchbook more than a few times. You couldn’t help it, that hair was just too glorious not to draw. But to be fair, you’ve drawn up a lot of the other students without speaking to them. A lot of it was pure observation—a student focused on a book they were reading, a group of the cheerleaders circled up and giggling among themselves, Jason Carver pictured in his actual form, the true evil of Hawkins. Sometimes you liked to draw devil horns on him for fun. No harm, no foul, you didn’t actually mean anything by it—you just hated how much he bolstered himself up at school, despite still paying you to write for his English homework. But hey, you gotta hustle where you can. He left you alone for the most part, anyways.
Once the bell rang and the last few stragglers were leaving the lunch room, you finally gathered your own things. Shoving the last minute homework into your bag and clutching the sketchbook to your chest, you leisurely walked your way to the exit. The sound of your pencil clanging to the floor beneath you had you pausing in your tracks.
Part of you just wanted to leave it, you had enough in your bag that it wouldn’t really matter anyways.
“Hey, this yours?” The voice asked.
You turned slowly, scanning the floor, stopping on the dirtied-up white sneakers that squeaked against the floor as they turned toward you. Of course it has to be Eddie.
“Yeah. Yeah, sorry.” You said softly, reaching forward to grab the pencil from him. The silence was apparent now, only the two of you left in the cafeteria.
“No problem.” He laughs slightly, “Oh hey, I’ve been meaning to tell you,” He leans in, lowering his voice—not that it really mattered since it was only you two, “I got a couple new strains in, if you want to meet up at the usual spot.”
Against your own rational thinking, your mouth spoke before your brain could process. “Sure.” You hadn’t even smoked the last bit of weed he’d sold to you yet.
He smiled, leaving wordlessly.
Sometimes it felt like life was happening around you and you weren’t even present, your body just did and said what it wanted.
“Oh, you fucking idiot.” You spoke to yourself.
⋆·˚ ༘ *
Four o’clock. The woods just west of Hawkins High. Picnic table. That’s how you’d set up your meetings from the start. And of course, you were always right on time. Eddie however, he’d get here eventually. At least you hoped. Your shift at the Family Video started in a half hour and not that Keith would even take the chance to fire you, you just hated the idea of being late.
“Come on, Munson.” You grumble to yourself, checking the watch around your wrist. You sigh, sitting your bag on the table to grab your sketchbook, scribbling down a rough version of the wide expanse of trees in front of you.
“I’m late, I know.” A voice startles you from behind. The scream that leaves your mouth is involuntary, but you quickly cover it in an attempt to compose yourself.
“Jesus Christ, Eddie.” You tell him, pulling your hand from your mouth. “You can’t sneak up on people like that!”
“You okay?” He asks, chuckling lightheartedly. The question was genuine, though. The way his eyes connected with yours assured you of so.
“Sure, one tiny heart attack later.” You reply sarcastically.
“Hey, I was loud as fuck walking up.” Eddie says like he's trying to prove it to himself, pointing behind himself briefly. “You completely forget other things exist when you shove your head into that thing.”
You glance down at your book before promptly snapping it shut. “Shut up.” You say, no real bite behind it.
He threw his hands up in defeat. “Hey, just a harmless observation.” Not that you were bothered by him observing, but the fact that he had—it was surprising. He only ever talked about two things, Hellfire Club and D&D, which went hand in hand. But so much so, that he was almost hyper fixated on it.
“Anyways,” you say, shifting the subject. “I’ve got work in thirty—well, about twenty now,”
“Yadda, yadda, yeah—make it quick, I know.” He grins, placing his small chest of goodies on the table. You roll your eyes in annoyance, even if you weren’t really that annoyed in the first place. He slaps two baggies on the table, presenting them like prized possessions.
“Colombian Gold, Northern Lights.” He says, pointing them out individually. “Pick your poison.”
You tilted your head, deciding on which sounded better. Eddie interjects thoughtfully, “Personally, I’m a fan of that sweet, sweet Colombian Gold.”
You laugh quietly, nodding in agreement. “Fine then.”
“Twenty for the ounce.” He says, shoving the leftovers back into the metal chest.
You swing your bag around to dig for the pocket change, shoving your hand inside to grab for your wallet. But, there’s nothing there. Not the familiar chain or zipper that sticks out, nothing.
“Shit, shit.” You say suddenly, beginning to panic. You close your eyes shut, trying to retrace your steps. But it dawns on you, your wallet is probably sitting on your bedside shelf where you left it the night prior, coming back from your late night run to the store after leaving work. “I think I left my wallet at home.”
Eddie ponders for a moment, then shrugs. “Get me when you can, I know you’re good for it.”
You hated the idea of not paying him the money you owed, “I swear I’ll pay today. I can meet up with you after I get out of work or—“
Eddie snorts, walking forward and grabbing a pen that had fallen out of my bag during my wild search. He opens my palm, holding it firmly. He pulls off the cap of the pen, holding it between his teeth as he scribbles something on my hand.
You inspect it closely. It was an address. Eddie caps the pen and hands it back to you. “Can you stop there after work?”
You were apprehensive for a moment, but figured there couldn’t be much harm in it. “Yeah, I can try. I don’t get out until nine, though.”
“Works for me.” He tells you, shoving his hand in his back pocket to adjust the black handkerchief that was shoved in haphazardly. You snorted softly, shoving your things back into your bag as quickly as you could.
“Okay, well—I’ll see you then, I guess—“ You swung back around, coming directly in contact with Eddie’s chest, who hadn’t moved from his spot. Why hadn’t he moved? More importantly, why was he reaching down?
Fuck. You looked down to notice some of the papers from your sketchbook had sprawled out on the ground. You scrambled to gather the drawings back into the pocket of the book, hoping you could avoid another awkward encounter with Eddie today.
But, as luck would have it—“Damn, these are good.” Eddie says suddenly, holding up one drawing in particular, an offhand drawing off Steve while you had some downtime at work.
“Make sure you do my hair justice.” He’d told you. You laughed and smacked him in the back of the head softly.
“Is that Harrington?” He asks.
“…yeah.” You answer, trying not to die of embarrassment.
He glances at you, noticing your discomfort. “Shit, I’m sorry. Here.” Eddie hands the paper over, realizing he may have overstepped.
“Thanks.” You answer, taking the paper from his hand.
“Oh, hey-“ He interrupts, reaching down to grab another page that had fallen under the picnic table seat. “You forgot,” He pauses, looking at it closely, “one.” His voice is soft, thoughtful.
You curse inwardly, trying not to physically facepalm yourself.
“Is that me?” He asks, the smallest smile forming in his face. “Well, at least—-the back of me?”
You stutter for words, your brain suddenly lacking the English language entirely.
“Does my hair really look like that from the back?” He asks playfully, head tilted in curiosity.
“Ms. McNally’s class gets really boring.” You tell him, snatching the paper back. “Like, really boring.”
But no, his head definitely looked like that from the back, despite the unruly curls in his hair, there wasn’t a piece out of place.
“Glad to know the back of my head gives you some entertainment then.” It’s a lame attempt to lighten the mood, but it works. Your thankful his immediate reaction isn’t to find it odd or make fun of you, he almost seemed amused.
“Here.” He finally hands the page over. “No more peeking, I swear.”
You place the page back into your sketchbook carefully. Looking up, Eddie’s still standing there, though looking around aimlessly.
“Eddie, what are you still doing here?” You ask.
“Got another deal going on soon.” He tells you. “Top secret.” And if the wink didn’t make you blush, it was the grin that spread over his features, you shook your head and laughed it off.
“See you at nine, Munson.” You tell him, backpack slung over your right shoulder.
“Can’t wait.” He says playfully.
⋆·˚ ༘ *
Your bike squealed to a stop outside of Family Video, nearly burning rubber. Clocking in with thirty seconds to spare, you breath a sigh of relief.
“What’s got you riled up?” Steve asks, organizing the Horror section of movies from a few feet away.
“Nothing.” You grumble, setting your bag down and throwing the god awful work vest over your sweater.
“You just missed Keith, by the way.” He adds, shooting you a knowing but amused look.
“Thank god.” Keith had a small obsession with you, not that you were creeped out about it. He was just so hopelessly in love with you, which blinded his ability to see that you had no interest in returning the sentiment. “That’s the last thing I need.”
“It’s the undeniable charm you’ve got.” Steve jokes, shrugging casually. “The ladies and gents love it—right, Robin?”
Like a jack in the box, Robin pops up from where she’s squatted behind the counter.
“Stop teasing her.” Robin warms, throwing a VHS case at Steve’s head. It promptly smacks him in the forehead.
“Ow, what the hell?” Steve shouts, fingers touching his forehead for any sign of injury. Not that there would be any, Robin had barely hit him in the process and Steve was kind of dramatizing things. You’d still consider it one of his more positive traits, even if it did serve as more entertainment to you and Robin than anything.
“No, he’s right.” You play along. “It’s a blessing and a curse.”
There’s a beat of silence and then you finally speak up.
“What do you guys make of Eddie Munson?” You asked, grabbing the stack of returned rentals to be checked through.
“The dude who’s been held back twice? Doesn’t he have that weird after school group thing he does?” Steve asks, looking between you and Robin.
“Yes.” You nod. “It’s a D&D club, Steve. Not a cult.”
Steve shrugs nonchalantly. “He always seemed off to me.”
“Yeah and you were prancing around with Tommy and Carol most of junior year.” You reminded him. “Don’t you remember when Tommy hit me on my bike with his car during Spring Break? During that giant party he had at his house?”
Steve immediately looked regretful at judging Eddie.
“Thank god you found Robin.” You tell him, trying to make Steve feel less guilty about it all. Tommy had always been jealous of Steve, but Carol and her constant snarky remarks always egged Tommy on.
“Yeah!” Steve cheers, reaching over to high five Robin. She scoffs in annoyance, leave Steve’s unanswered high five hanging in the air.
“We both love chicks and boobies, it works out great.” Steve adds, returning hand to his side.
“He’s still learning.” Robin says quietly, leaning over toward you. “Why are you asking about Eddie anyways? Doesn’t he deal weed to the students?”
You shot Robin a knowing look.
“Oh. Oh.” She catches on. “Well, did something happen between you two?”
“No. Nothing, really. I just have to meet up with him after work and was wondering if I should be worried.” Robin didn’t seem to question as to why you would need to meet up with, which made you grateful.
“He doesn’t seem like that type of guy. Not to me, at least.” Robin assures, lowering her voice as the entrance bell jingled, signaling a customer. “But, you could always take your pocket knife with you.”
Your mouth dropped open at the suggestion, but to be fair, Robin just wanted to make sure you felt safe.
“Yeah—murder first, ask questions later.” You retort playfully.
“You’ve been watching too many scary movies with Steve.” Robin tells you.
“Hey, don’t knock ‘em til you try ‘em!” Steve says, greeting the customer as they walk by.
⋆·˚ ༘ *
You locked up for the night as soon as you could, making the short trek to your bike behind the back of the Family Video store. You pulled the small piece of paper you had scribbled on earlier, the address Eddie had left earlier started to smudge about an hour into your shift and you didn’t want to take any chances that it could last. And luckily, your mother had dropped your wallet off in the process of making her way to work that night, which was a lifesaver. The idea of biking home and then to Eddie’s made your legs hurt at the very possibility.
It was a ten minute bike ride away from the store, leading you down a long road that led to a dimly lit trailer park. The uneasiness set in immediately.
As if on cue, one of the poorly lit lamps sprinkled throughout the residence flickered a couple times before going out completely.
“Great. This is how I die.” You say to yourself, double checking the number on the paper so it matched with the trailer you were riding up to.
Everything seemed normal, the lights were on inside. Aside from the totally barren mobile home and Eddie’s truck parked in the driveway, nothing felt too grim about the whole situation. Normally, you’d be in a rush to get home and relax, but you knew your parents didn’t care one way or another, as long as you came home in one piece.
You sighed, stepping off and leaning your bike against the deck. If it wasn’t for the muffled music playing inside the trailer, you would assume whoever was there had left but forgot to turn their lights off. You reach forward to knock tentatively on the flimsy screen door.
There’s a rustling from the back of the home, the sudden silence of music being turned off, then a twisting of the doorknob as the door creaked open.
“Well, well, well.” Eddie says, grinning at you through the screen door. “I didn’t think you’d ever show.”
“It’s only five after nine, Eddie.” You tell him, reaching around into your bag to make things quick.
“It was just a—nevermind,” He mumbles quietly to himself, “Whatcha got for me, princess?”
You curled your head to the side subtly, but didn’t think anything of the harmless and playful endearment. Save it, bookmark it, stow it away for later. You slide him the twenty, he eyes it for a moment. “You know,” he begins, arm resting against the trim of the door, “I’d take that drawing of me over the twenty if you’re willing to fork it over.”
“Are you serious?” You ask, hand frozen in place from where Eddie was hanging onto the bill.
“Deadly.” He tells you, tongue smoothing over the teeth that showed through his grin.
You debated, not sure why he was so interested in the first place.
“Why don’t you want the money?” You ask.
“You’ve bought enough from me, I think that warrants a little discount.” He shrugs, like it wasn’t a big deal at all.
“You’re so weird, Munson.” You reply, pulling out the sketchbook and handing the drawing over.
“Got anymore?” He asks jokingly, albeit a little curious.
“I’ll let that remain a mystery, thank you.” You tell him, snapping the book closed. He holds the drawing up to the light, watching him scan over it admiringly.
“It’s really good, you know. You probably draw a lot of kids at school, don’t you?” He asks and you’re not sure where his sudden interest in conversation with you is coming from. Both of you didn’t interact outside of deals—this reality almost didn’t feel tangible.
“Sometimes.” You answer skeptically, “Not all the time, though.”
“We’ll, I’m honored.” He says, noting one of the small details in the background. “Did you make Ms. McNally resembles a hobbit on purpose?”
You snorted at that. It was something, in hindsight, that you’d completely forgotten about. “She was really pissing me off that day.”
“Nice.” He laughs to himself, finally setting the drawing down on a table out of view. “Anyways, don’t worry about the twenty. You’re covered.”
“You really don’t have to do that, Eddie. I can pay.” You felt guilty at the thought, but Eddie seemed pretty serious about the whole ordeal.
“Nope. We’re good.” He tells you, flashing you his trademark smile. He still hadn’t changed his school earlier, brandishing his Hellfire Club tee proudly.
“Okay,” You draw out, dragging the last letter a bit. “Well, I’ll see you at school tomorrow then.”
“Aye, aye.” He replied in mock salute, coming to stand at attention.
You couldn’t help but laugh aloud at the act, it was undeniably goofy, but adorable in its own right. He shut the door slowly, waving you a sweet goodbye as he finally disappeared.
And despite all efforts, there was one giant fucking elephant in the room that you couldn’t ignore–because not only was Eddie devastatingly beautiful, he was charming as hell, which was something you had overlooked for far too long.
⋆·˚ ༘ *
“Stupid. Fucking. Lockers.” You grumble to yourself, slamming the locker shut with every word. It was as if the world was setting you up for the shittiest day possible. It started with you sleeping through your alarm, burning the toast you’d made for breakfast, and somehow managing to spill orange juice all over your jeans in the small span of an hour–so not only were you on your second pair of jeans, you were ready to slam your head against the locker in defeat, ready to be put out of this complete, utter misery that had been your Friday morning.
“Woah, woah.” The voice carried down the hall, you peeked behind you.
Eddie Munson was heading right for you. You turned and sighed, slamming the locker again for good measure.
“Lucky for you, I’ve got just the touch.” Eddie assures you, wiggling his fingers in your face.
You tried to ignore every flipping feeling in your stomach at the sight of it.
It took him a second, but he swiftly lifted the locker door in a quick motion and slammed it close, that time for good. He’s smiling down at you–again, with that annoying, shit-eating grin.
“No. Don’t even start.” You tell him, finger pointing accusingly. “My morning has been horrible. I don’t need jokes, right now.”
“I was just going to ask if you wanted to walk to English together?” He replied, looking slightly defeated. “If that’s okay?”
“Oh.” You frowned. It still didn’t feel right to be conversing in front of your peers, like it was almost illegal. “I mean, I don’t see why not. But, Eddie–”
“Yep?” He asks, turning on his heels. You both had English together, which most of the time, was spent staring directly at the back of his head because you couldn’t be bothered to listen to Ms. McNally’s grating voice for more than a few minutes at a time.
“Why are you talking to me?” You ask, genuine and honest. There had never been any reason not to before, but why now?
“You seemed a little scary–well, not scary, scary–but like, she could definitely break my fingers if I said the wrong thing to her–that type of scary.” He explains in one breath, fiddling with the rings on his right hand.
Fair enough, considering the pocket knife you did carry in your bag for instances like that. There were too many assholes and you had plenty of ways to deal with them.
“Ah.” You replied, as if it all made sense. “Well, the jury's still out.”
“I’ll try and remember that.” He tells you, laughing slightly. “I also just wasn’t sure you liked talking to anyone from school–I mean I get that, but I just wanted to make sure you knew that you don’t have to sit alone at lunch like you do–”
“I don’t mind it–” You interject.
“I know. I’m just saying. Our table wouldn’t mind. The guys usually don’t know how to talk to girls, so most of them don’t say anything anyways.” He assures you.
The friendliness caught you off-guard. It seemed genuine, but you were also waiting for the catch.
⋆·˚ ༘ *
The teacher slaps the graded test onto your desk, brandishing a bright red A. You quickly shove it under your textbook, glancing up as you hear the rustling of Eddie swiveling around to face you from his seat.
“All good?” You ask, mostly in an attempt to be friendly. But, you can’t help but notice the giant circled F on his paper. You’d heard lots of stories about Eddie and his inability to pass, being held back, and every lousy nickname that came along with that. People liked to pick on Eddie because he was different, he didn’t fit in with anyone at Hawkins, and while you might be able to get away with slipping under the radar–Eddie couldn’t.
“I could tutor you, you know.” You suggest, instantly regretting the words the moment they leave your mouth.
“Seriously?” He asks, looking caught off guard. “I appreciate it but–”
“Seriously.” You say, “English is my best subject and as long as you put in the same effort I am, I could at least get you up to a C.” In for a penny, in for a pound…I guess.
“That’s–yeah, that’s cool. I’m kinda busy with Hellfire most days though–” He starts, rolling the paper up in his hands. It was a small detail, but you noticed how often he used his hands when he liked to fidget, whether it be his rings or a poor piece of paper being strangled to death.
“Weekends are good.” You assure him. “I work a lot during that week so I wouldn’t have time anyways.”
Eddie nods slowly. He seemed apprehensive, like he didn’t really deserve the help you were offering. His jaw was clenched, eyes downcast.
“Eddie, I don’t mind.” You told him, offering a small smile to ease whatever worry he was feeling. “It's just–we’ll have to study at your place though, not mine.”
You didn’t even want to begin to explain the ordeal to your parents, as understanding as they may be–any site of a boy and your parents would be seething at the idea.
“My uncle is gone most of the time, so I guess that works out.” He shrugs.
The sound of the teacher clearing her throat from a few rows over interrupts you both. You roll your eyes inconspicuously, turning in your chair.
Eddie taps your leg softly, having already turned around in his chair. You look underneath the desk to find a small piece of paper between his thumb and middle finger. Prying it from his fingers.
You unfold it quietly, fingers smoothing over the creases in the paper. 'Tmrw at 4?' It read it dark blue ink. His handwriting wasn’t as messy as you expected, you quickly scribbles a ‘Yep :)’ adding the smiley face for fun. Maybe this was a good thing, you could make it a good thing. Helping someone bump their grade and maybe make a friend in the process—what’s the worst thing that could happen?
You slid the paper over his shoulder, ignoring the way his fingertips brushed against yours. You didn’t see him unfold the paper, but the way his shoulder shook with silent laughter was a good sign. He pocketed the paper for safekeeping.
You couldn’t help but smile to yourself, but what you couldn’t see was the same smile that Eddie shared with you.

The cafeteria was already packed by the time you had arrived, the hustle and bustle of kids grabbing their food and chit chatting like it was musical chairs was enough to drive you insane. You quickly ducked your head, attempting to make your way to your usual spot in the corner of the lunch room.
The hand that grabs your wrist stops you in your tracks. There’s a moment where you’re ready to swing back in retaliation.
“Hey, want to sit with us?” He asks. He was really starting to throw you off.
The idea of going from speaking in short, clipped—and sometimes one word answers, to full fledged conversations was not something you were used to. The only two people you talked to that much, outside of your parents, was Robin and Steve. And maybe Steve was a cop out, you two practically grew up together, toppling over each other as babies.
“Uh, I don’t know—“ You begin, but the bellowing, boisterous voice of Dustin Henderson overpowers your own.
“Steve graduated already, you gotta make new friends eventually.”
That little fucking twerp. Him and Steve together in one place was a nightmare.
“I will murder you, Henderson. Don’t try me.” You threatened.
“You wouldn’t.” He counters.
“Try me.” You quirk your eyebrow. “Remember what Steve told you about summer of ‘84?”
Your voice was lowered, but it didn’t seem like anyone was paying any attention, aside from the people sitting at Eddie’s table. It was like they had front row tickets to the most talked about movie in town. Dustin’s eyes widened in fear.
“He also told me about that time you two—“ You quickly shoved your hand over his mouth, stopping him from saying what was possibly the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done. He muffled the rest of whatever he was saying into your hand.
“Don’t you dare.” You say seriously, fingers pinching the tip of his ear. His hands fly up, signaling his white flag of defeat.
“You’re so mean sometimes.” He whines, rubbing his tender ear.
“You’ll live, Henderson.” You assure him, bumping him aside with your hip to take a seat.
Eddie had been watching with intrigued amusement the entire time, not sure how well you and Dustin actually knew each other until now. And apparently, it was entirely too much.
“Not gonna eat?” Eddie asks, noticing your lack of a lunch tray.
“I hate big crowds. I usually just wait until everyone sits down.” You say softly, setting your bag on your knees to rest your arms on.
“Here.” Eddie says, sliding his uneaten apple and bag of carrots over like it was a game of poker and he was dividing up his chips. “For now, at least.”
“I’m fine, honestly.” You laugh lightheartedly, but take the fresh fruit and vegetable anyway.

Your halfway through lunch when you lock eyes with Jason, who’s practically burning eyes into your skull. He motions toward the door leading to the back of the school, hoping you’d get the signal.
It made him look ridiculous more than anything. You’d already planned to meet up with after lunch earlier on in the week, but Jason never seemed like he was focused on anything other than basketball or Chrissy—which fair, Chrissy was a great girl.
You leave without much of a word, other than a smile and a pat on Dustin’s shoulder, hoping he’d get the message. He knew just as much as Steve did about your arrangement with Jason, considering Dustin and Steve were practically conjoined twins, at this point. He clears his throat, distracting Eddie with something about their meeting tonight so you could sneak away without worry.
When you’re finally outside, Jason is pacing, not nervously, but definitely impatiently. “You got it?” He asks.
You pause, “…Yeah.” You answer him, pulling the midterm paper out of your bag and handing it over, he quickly snatches it away and slides you over the money he promised.
“Jesus, Jason. This isn’t a drug deal. Chill out.” You finally find the courage to say.
“If anyone finds out about this, I could lose my chance at any type of scholarship, you know?” He tells you, and you don’t even want to begin to hear his sob story. His parents could buy his way into any school he wanted, though you appreciated his poor attempt to manage it himself.
“Hmm, well maybe—just maybe, you shouldn’t be asking people to write your papers for you then.” You snark back, zipping your backpack closed aggressively for good measure. “Figure this shit out yourself, Jason. I’ve got work, my own school stuff, and plenty of other shit to worry about. I don’t need you hounding me for a paper that you could finish on your own in a night if you actually took the time.”
“But basketball is my priority.” He tells you, you join in to mock him at the same time.
“Fuck off, Jason.” Enough was enough. Jason was nothing but a problem, even after all the pain and embarrassment he’d put you through a couple years prior. “Ask your perfect, pretty little girlfriend to do the work for you.”
And for once, he finally looked defeated. But, he was smart in not responding. He shoved his way past you, making his way back inside. You don’t remember how the arrangement between you two started initially, or why you fell pity to him after the stunt he pulled a couple years ago—you figured you were more desperate for the money at the time, sacrificing and swallowing your pride in the process. But now? Fuck that.
You could just ditch the rest of the day, which didn’t sound entirely too awful, but it was rash and you didn’t like to act on impulse, which you’d been doing entirely too much of lately.
“Pull it together.” You remind yourself before forcing yourself through the rest of what was already a horrible day.

Steve tagged along to lock up with you tonight, considering you two had plans to hang out tonight and he had picked you up from school that evening as a favor.
“What’s got you so tense?” He asks, swinging his keys around his pointer finger.
“Everything.” You sigh through clenched teeth, outwardly groaning as you take a seat in Steve’s car. “God, my feet are killing me.” You quickly toe your shoes off on the floorboard of his car and curl your legs up criss cross.
“Care to elaborate?” He pushes, backing out of the parking lot to pull out on the main road. “Everything is just like a blanket statement, you know. You know I’m never gonna repeat anything you tell me to anyone, ever.”
“Except Dustin.” You remind him.
“Okay, that was fair game. You told him some embarrassing stuff about me. I couldn’t just stand there and watch.” He laughs, you try to hold back your own laughter but it bubbles out soon after.
“It’s just—the shit with Jason, trying to keep up with school, my parents hounding me all the time, and then I promised Eddie I would help him with English—which, you know how my motor mouth works, once I get an idea it just comes out, it’s impossible to stop it.” And god was that a fucking breath of relief to finally let out.
“You’re still doing Jason’s schoolwork?” He asks, slightly disappointed in you. It was understandable, he hated him just as much as you.
“Only the important stuff. Essays, the higher graded stuff, you know. It’s easy money.” You tell him, but it sounds like a lousy excuse.
“Let’s not forget he embarrassed you in front of the entire basketball team and cheerleaders last year.”
“Which was partly your responsibility, Steve.” You remind him. But, it was so far in the past that you couldn’t be mad at him. Holding a grudge against Steve was like hating your own brother and you couldn’t do it. Your gut was pointing to every possible sign to say no to Jason, but Steve gave you the push you’d needed that night.
“I thought it was genuine. I’m sorry.” Steve tells you, you could see the way he paused, swallowed, thinking back on the memory.
“Anyways. I’m just stressed. Not that I can’t handle it, but Eddie’s been acting unnaturally friendly with me and it’s kind of giving me weird vibes.” You admit, like trusting Eddie was just too good to be true. Not weird in the way that made you want to run in the opposite direction, but the way that made your stomach clench in anticipation—and occasionally your thighs. Eddie had always been attractive, but only from a distance.
“Just keep your guard up, that’s always the best option.” He says honestly. “Not that you don’t already have the personality of a brick wall.”
You promptly hit Steve in the shoulder, watching him yell and reach for the spot where you’d landed the blow. “Ouch!”
“I'm not that boring you pompous ass!” You replied in playful disbelief. Steve slowly pulled into the driveway of his home, gradually letting the car come to a stop.
“Have you ever heard yourself talk?” He asks, voice teasing.
“And I sound like I have the voice of a thousand fucking angels, Harrington.” You assure him, shoving him to the side as you both raced to the front door.
“You mean a thousand fucking gremlins.”
You gasped outwardly, caught entirely off guard by his response. “Steve!”

You wake up Saturday morning with everything Steve had told you fresh in your mind.
No getting too close. Don’t talk about anything personal. Take the arrangement for what it was. Studying, that was it. You rarely got nervous around boys, but Eddie, you just couldn’t put your finger on it.
Which was exactly why your heart was pounding out of your chest as you knocked on his front door. You silently prayed he’d answer the door quickly, the sweltering sun doing nothing to help your pale skin. You pulled your shorts down where they had ridden up on the bike ride here, the unnecessary sweater covering your plain tee proving to be nothing but a giant heat trap.
“Princess.” There it was again, the soft tone in his voice and the teasing smile that painted his face. “Welcome to the Munson residence, once again.”
“I’m dying out here.” You deadpan, hiking your bag up higher over your shoulder.
“Oh yeah,” Eddie fumbles with the door knob, swinging the door open. “Come in.”
You quickly step inside, watching as he closes the door behind you. It wasn’t much cooler, but it was definitely a welcomed change from the heat outside.
“You know, the sweater might be your problem.” He says as he makes his way beside you, leading you toward the back room. “Not that I’m judging, I’m just sure you’d suffer from heatstroke if I left you out there another five minutes.”
“And then I’d come back and haunt the shit out of you.” It was a lame attempt at a joke, but the response from Eddie has you snapping back into defense mode.
“Promise?” Your cheeks burn a dark shade of crimson, which you lamely attempt to hide by turning to dig into your bag and fish out some of your English notes and one of the books the class was currently focusing on.
“I figure we should probably go over the paper from the other day, so I could explain what you got wrong and why, if you don’t mind?” You change the subject entirely, taking a seat on his bed. It smelt like fresh linen, it was made neatly, you weren’t sure what you were expecting but it wasn’t that. Even you didn’t take as much time to make your bed that often, at least not as neatly as this. To each their own though—maybe Eddie was a bit of a neat freak, not that you minded.
“Sure.” He agrees, taking a seat on his bed beside you, although a comfortable distance away. You could appreciate him respecting boundaries, even if you could still smell the cologne he was wearing, not that it was distracting…at all.
His interest is genuine as you explain through the test, even if much of it isn’t sticking with him, he’s still asking questions and staying engaged more than you anticipated. Even you were ready for a break after an hour of endless talk of metaphors in literature and the re-explaining of Macbeth in detail.
“My fucking brain hurts.” Eddie sighs, laying down, hands crossed over his stomach. You try not to stare at the small patch of hair at the end of his stomach, leading down just past the tip of his belt. Or the way his surprisingly toned stomach stretches against the shirt he’s wearing—which was just a plain, black shirt, surprisingly enough. You couldn’t remember the last time you’ve seen him without any type of Hellfire or metal band shirt on his body. Not that you noticed. Not at all.
Your brain finally stutters back awake at the feeling of his finger poking your thigh. “Huh?” You asks.
“I said, if you’re hot you can take off the sweater—that really can’t be comfortable.”
He was right, it wasn’t. But part of it was because it was like a safety blanket. Also, it was just one of your favorites. You let your brain run on autopilot, slipping it over your head. You tried not to think much of it, thankful your shirt was baggy enough that it didn’t reveal to much of you. Even if your shorts were scandalous in their own right. You had to pick and chose your battles.
You toss the sweater onto his nightstand, noting the paper that falls to the floor as a result. Your drawing, he’s moved into his room, at least. Which was both comforting and odd. You couldn’t understand the interest he’d had in it in the first place, but you weren’t really in a place to question it.
“I’ve been meaning to tape it up somewhere.” He mentions, noticing the way you stared at the lonely piece of a paper. “Not that my wall isn’t already covered in stuff.”
It was the first time you’d actually found the chance to take it all in. Posters, an amp—Eddie definitely came across as a guitar guy, so there wasn’t much surprise there, nightstands littered with random crap—your eyes immediately snapped toward the cuffs on the wall and quickly glanced over. There was no way you were touching on that topic, no fucking way.
“I’d be honored.” You joke, tapping your pencil against your notebook.
“Do you take it with you everywhere?” He asks curiously. “That sketchbook, I mean. I’ve never seen you without it until now.” He laughs innocently, adjusting himself to lean up and back onto his outstretched arms.
“It’s…in my bag.” You say quietly, almost embarrassed at the fact that he read through you so well.
“Can I see some other stuff?”
If there was a way to make you go into cardiac arrest with one sentence, Eddie Munson had found it.
“It’s cool if you don’t want to. I just think it’s cool. At least, from what I’ve seen.” He says openly, gesturing toward the drawing you had given him.
“They’re really not that good, a lot of them are just rough sketches and—I mean, you might find this weird but—“ Don’t mention that fact that you totally draw him a lot—like he won’t notice it the second he opens the book. You had a valid excuse, you just didn’t want to come across as a total creep.
“Just show me.” He smiles, nudging your leg again.
You reach for the book buried in your bag and hand it over. There wasn’t any shame behind the stuff in there, but the way everyone perceives art is so different that the idea of any type of comment or criticism was your worst nightmare.
He flips through slowly, landing on the particular one of Jason you drew from a few days prior. “Now that one’s spot fucking on.” He chuckles to himself, the tiny little devil horns was a nice detail, he seemed to enjoy it just as much as you did in the process of drawing it out.
He flips through the next few pages, nodding silently. The anticipation driving a hole through your chest, you couldn’t even comprehend why you were doing this right now. Every single thing that Steve told you flew right out of the window.
He flips another page and you interrupt quickly, “Before you say anything. You have a great hair for drawing, I don’t mean for it to come off as weird but it’s honestly helped me improve a lot.”
“No, no.” He shrugs, “I dig it. I guess I’m kinda your muse, in a way.”
That’s definitely not where you expected that to go. Actually, it was completely left field. So many miles away from where you planned.
“Not exactly.” You assure him. “I just—your hair is really distracting in class. And your side profile is really nice—“ You can feel yourself starting to ramble, the giant Cheshire grin on Eddie’s face only making things worse. “I’m just going to shut up before I embarrass myself more.”
Eddie closes the book and hands it over gingerly, “I really don’t mind. I’m serious.” He means it, you know that. “It’s fucking ridiculous how detailed you are.”
“I-“ You laugh softly, “nevermind. Thank you. Just…thanks, Eddie.”
You were so pleased in the fact that if there was anyone to see your work, someone you considered more of a stranger than a friend, like Robin or Steve, that it was Eddie.
“Anyways, we should probably, you know, get back to work.” You interject after a while of awkward silence, not sure how to move on from the topic.
“Cool with me.” He nods.
The next couple hours pass quickly, finally packing up your stuff after the long tangent Eddie went off on about D&D and the inner workings of it, which was a lot more interesting than you expected.
“Oh hey, you ever get to try out the weed I gave you the other day? It’s pretty damn sweet, right?” He says handing you the pencil you’d lended him.
“Actually, I haven’t.” You admitted. “I’ve been so busy with work that I completely forgot.”
He holds the joint between his fingers like he’d been keeping it stowed away for safekeeping, waiting for the right moment.
“My parents are going to ground me for life if I come home high.” Okay, it was a bit of an over exaggeration, but still buried in truth, nonetheless. “Let alone even smelling like weed.”
“Do you not realize who you’re talking to?” Eddie asks, he tried to seem offended, but it definitely came off as more of a joke. “Come on, miss perfect. We can just smoke it outside.”
You scoff in annoyance, knowing you were far from any type of perfect. “I have to be home in an hour, Eddie. If you get me in trouble with my parents, I swear to god.”
“I know—you’ll murder me and bury me in your backyard.” He jokes, knowing it’s all mostly playful. “Then I’ll come back to haunt your ass.”
You chuckle, your own words coming back to bite you. “Promise?” You ask, in an attempt to one up him.
You weren’t really expecting a response, but he gave you one anyway. “Someone’s gotta keep you out of trouble.” Eddie teases, bumping his shoulder against yours.
You smiled to yourself, adoring the way that Eddie charmed himself out of any situation with ease. He lit up the joint on the short walk to the wooded area away from his home, safe from any random bystanders that may decide to wander by.
“First hit?” He asks, handing it over to you,
“Such a gentleman.” You reply, hand over your heart. You took a long hit, inhaling until your lungs couldn’t take it and the slight burn lingered in the back of your throat, breathing out slowly through your nose.
For the first time, the silence is comforting. You pass the joint back and forth wordlessly until there’s practically nothing left.
“The stars are so pretty here.”
“Yeah.” Eddie answered after a while, staring directly at you.
You tried to ignore it, the heat of his gaze burning into the side of your face.
“The deeper you get into the city, the less you can really see.”
He hummed to himself, “Totally.”
He hadn’t heard a word you said, too focused on the way you were mindless focused on the sky, mesmerized by something so simple.
“God, I don’t think I’ve ever been this high.” You sigh to yourself, feeling like you were having an out of body experience. Your body didn’t feel like you own, even these clothes felt foreign, the way you ran your fingertips over them. “You’re a really bad influence, Eddie.”
You finally lock eyes with him after a few minutes. He was in a complete daze, high out of his mind–you weren’t even sure if he was still on the same planet as you, which obviously, but there was no way he was leaving this picnic table without some assistance. You take a quick glance at your watch, feeling yourself jump back into reality almost immediately.
“Shit, I’m so dead.” You panic, clumsily placing your feet on the ground–any faster and you probably would’ve twisted your ankle. “I have to go, right now.”
“I can give you a ride, if you need it.” Eddie suggests, but it’s far, far–literally a galaxy away, from the safer option of biking home high.
“I need to ride off the smell anyway, I’ll manage.” You tell him, rather than declining his offer outright. You hesitate for a moment before lending your hand out, gripping his in an effort to pull him up.
“No smoke sessions tomorrow, Eddie. I’m serious.” You point an accusing finger at him, watching as he follows it, then looks up at you with his stupid, dopey smile. “I’m fucking serious.”
Super duper serious. Strictly business from this point forward.
“Fine.” He agrees in defeat, finding his own footing. “But, I’ll definitely feel like an ass if you don’t let me drive you home.”
There was no way Eddie could even put a coherent thought together right now.
“I’ll be fine. I swear.” You tell him, smiling sweetly. He didn’t seem like the type to push back thankfully and dropped the argument there. “See you tomorrow, Munson.”
You leave in a rush, blinded by the idea of having to explain any of this to your parents, and only once you’re home, after a very bumpy, sobering ride–you realize the one very important thing you left behind–your school bag.
⋆·˚ ༘ *
It shouldn’t be something you were worried about, Eddie had already looked through the one possession you were most insecure about–but still, the idea of being thrown so far off your game that you would leave your bag behind was enough to have you showing up at Eddie’s trailer bright and early, the morning dew still stuck to the grass and the birds chirping away at nothing.
You should have figured Eddie wouldn’t be fully dressed when he answered the door, but you weren’t really sure what you were expecting exactly. Still, the door creaking open and revealing a half naked Eddie, boxer-briefs leaving little to imagine–your eyes immediately snap back from where they’d lingered, because nothing about Eddie seemed little, not in the way he was towering over you, right now. Was he really that tall? Huh.
“What can I do for you on this fine–” He begins, voice still fighting through sleep, a yawn escaping him.
“I left my bag last night.” You blurt out. “I just need it back.”
It all seemed ridiculous, in hindsight—showing up like this.
“Uh, yeah–” He looks around, trying to gain his bearings. “It’s on my bed–I think.”
He nods in the direction of said bedroom, swinging the door open to welcome you inside. You side-stepped wide enough to avoid his shirtless chest, trying to ignore the fact that it felt like you were literally going to burst into flames at the slightest touch. Whatever high you had last night was gone, but you couldn’t ignore the fact that you still found Eddie attractive, sober or not.
You move around silently, flipping his blankets around to dig for your bag. He’s standing in the hallway now, just outside the doorway that leads to his room. His arms crossed over his chest tightly, still desperately attempting to rub the sleep out of his eyes. Eddie Munson was nowhere near a morning person, but that made perfect sense in hindsight.
“Gotcha!” You celebrate quietly, throwing the strap of your bag over your shoulder.
“Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask—” His voice startles you, “how do you know Henderson?”
It was a weird way to start a conversation, but Eddie wasn’t one to dwell on semantics on proper conversation starting.
“Him and Steve are a package deal.” You explain, like it was the cure all.
“Oh.” You can see the gears turning in his head. “Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.”
“I’ve known Steve since I was in diapers.” You admit, finally catching his gaze. “We’ve been friends for a really long time.”
“So that stuff at lunch the other day–” You had managed to push that so far out of your mind that you were surprised Eddie had even remembered. He was a curious person, you couldn’t really blame him, but the thought of explaining any of it to him was the last thing on your mind.
“Long story.” You laugh it off, feeling eager to escape now. “Anyways, I’ll be over at four. Is that still good for you?” You ask.
He nods silently, angling his body to let you through–because god, why was this hallway so fucking tiny? You clear your throat and quickly move past him, practically jogging toward the door. The faster you escape, the better.
“Later, Princess.” He adds–and you bite down on nothing but air, teeth clenched. He was trying to be coy and you knew it.
“Bye, Eddie.” You reply, lamely attempting to force the nervousness out of your voice. You’ve never forced your legs to pedal so fast in your life, feeling like jello by the time you arrived home.
⋆·˚ ༘ *
“Why the fuck do they talk like that?” Eddie asks, looking up at you from where he was stretched out on his bed, legs kicked up lazily behind. The soft sound of a random rock song you don’t know the name of playing on the radio to fill in as ambient noise.
“It’s archaic and prose.” You answer simply. “It makes a lot more sense the more you read it.”
“Well, I needeth a break, M’lady.” He jokes, forced accent and all.
“That actually wasn’t bad.” You admit, closing the book that you’d place between you both.
At some point, you’d ended up in a similar position, sprawled out beside Eddie, head resting in the palm of your hand.
“Not to boost your ego or anything, but you’re a pretty good tutor.” Eddie says, twirling the pencil between his fingers slowly.
“Whatever.” You shrug off lightheartedly.
And you can feel the impending question before it even leaves his mouth–blame it on your amazing intuition, but Eddie was also incredibly predictable sometimes.
“You want to know what Dustin and I were talking about during lunch, don’t you?” You ask, eyeing him carefully.
He shrugs, “I’m just a little curious, I guess.”
Fair enough. It might feel good to get off your chest anyways–not to mention half the school already knew about the instance.
“Jason asked me to meet up with him during that back to school bonfire they were having, right before Junior year–you remember? Anyways, I talked to Steve about it. He kinda pushed me toward it initially, he was the only reason I even went–I used to have a huge crush on Jason–horrible, now that I think about it. To make a long story short, he made this whole elaborate show about how he liked him and I ended up half naked in front of him, standing on the dock at his parent’s lake house, but the entire basketball and cheer team watched the entire thing happen. I didn’t realize until I heard them laughing from the bushes. There’s a picture, somewhere, I’m sure–I just try to block it out of my memory.” You explain slowly, enough time had passed that you could think about it without bursting into tears from embarrassment, but it was still terrifying to say out loud. “Steve felt really bad about all of it. I know he didn’t know any of that was going to happen, but I just took a lot of my frustration out on him.”
Eddie was eerily quiet, like he was attempting to soak all the information in. You tried not to gauge his reaction too much, knowing that pity was a normal reaction from most people.
“And then,” You say on a deep breath, “Steve and I got really drunk and made out and it was fucking weird. We joke about it now, but it was just…a lot of mistakes in one night, so I try to forget about it.”
“Good to know that Jason’s still a total dick.” He adds, not like that wasn’t already obvious. “I can’t believe you made out with Harrington.”
You want to gag at the long, distanced memory. “It wasn’t my best moment.” You agree.
“So, yeah–Dustin knows a couple secrets about me. And now you do–but if you tell anyone–Eddie–”
“I won’t.” You can see the seriousness on his face, coming from his voice.
“Swear?” You ask
“Pinky swear.” He answers, holding up his ringed pinky finger. You hesitate for a second before wrapping your own pinky finger around his.
He doesn’t let go. But to be fair, neither do you. He’s looking at you, not ogling, but admiring–although, it definitely could’ve been interpreted as him checking you out. You avert your attention to the intricate design of the ring on his finger, making some attempt to break the heavy, thick blanket of tension that had fallen over the both of you. It wasn’t like you’d never laid in bed with a boy before–you could lay and talk with Steve for hours, but Steve didn’t look at you the way Eddie did, not ever.
You clear your throat softly, twisting the ring with the few fingers that weren’t interlocked with his, both of your hands now resting against the soft duvet. “Is that a pig?” You ask lightheartedly. The answer never comes.
Instead, “Can I kiss you?” Eddie asks, almost too timid to be his own voice.
Your mouth hangs open for a half second, before you force yourself to pull it together. And you’re pretty sure your heart was making a desperate attempt at beating its way out of your chest. You nod slowly, leaning forward before you can even think about stopping yourself.
His lips were soft, gentle–but firm in the way they pressed against yours. You only had a couple other experiences to compare this too, but it was obvious that Eddie had confidence in his own abilities. You pulled back after a few seconds, wetting your lips nervously. Eddie followed the way the tip of your tongue dragged over them, the heat from the breathy exhale he let out fanning over your face.
“You never answered my question.” You say softly, eyes flicking up to look at him. His gaze still locked on your lips, you repeat yourself once more, this time calling him out directly. “Eddie, you never answered my question.”
“Yeah, yeah. It’s a pig.” He says, eyes finally locking with yours. “It’s a stupid fucking pig.” His voice is strained, breathy–and you’re just as sure as he is in the fact that you can’t believe this is even happening.
And even if you may end up regretting the decision later, you decide to put him out of his misery. Letting go of his hand completely, hand settling and finding a place to call home against the back of his neck, you pull him forward. He grunts slightly, almost inaudible as you press your lips against his own, more delicate than he had. In the way that he was entirely too sure of himself, you had restraint, hesitance. You let a long, breathy sigh and try to ignore the way your body shivers with nervousness and anticipation.
Eddie takes the opportunity to find his way past your lips, teasingly dragging his tongue against your own. Your brain could literally short circuit at the thought of his mouth being anywhere else on your body, even now you could feel yourself screaming internally and if you weren’t so goddamn turned on, you probably would just scream out loud.
His hand found your waist at some point, playing with the frayed fabric attached to the bottom of your shirt, kissing you fervently, playfully–and like the tease he’s proven to be, he bites down on your bottom lip gently, for good measure.
“Eddie,” You breath out, pulling back. You can’t even bring yourself to look at him, only following the way his hand is massaging the dip in your waist, “studying, remember?”
“Shit.” He curses to himself, allowing himself to drop back into reality. “Yeah, sorry.”
“It’s fine.” You assure him, knowing that studying was the last thing you were hoping to focus on now.
“I didn’t mean to overstep, I’m sorry if–” Eddie starts, and you can’t help but feel like a sucker for the way his voice stutters over the apology. And studying be-fucking-damned, you had plenty of other time to help him out. You had to allow yourself to self-indulge, at least once, and regret it later.
“Fuck it.” You sigh, shoving your belongings out of the way and pulling him toward you again.
He immediately takes the advantage of being above you, slotting his own legs between yours, still remaining enough distance that you both wouldn’t simultaneously combust from the idea of grinding against each other, though you weren't sure how long that would actually last.
He delves into your mouth like you’re the last meal he’s ever going to have and Jesus Christ–-no one’s ever kissed you this way. You sigh openly, letting Eddie deepen the kiss further. You try to find every reason to pull away, but you’re drawing the biggest fucking blank, gasping softly when Eddie’s hands dip behind your lower back, grasping onto your ass and bring you closer. And there’s no way to ignore the feeling of Eddie’s groin pressed against you, dick straining against the material of his jeans. His openly sighs into your mouth, switching from sweet, closed mouth kisses to dirty, deep open mouthed kisses that leave you both begging for more. His hand slips between you both, palm coming to rest against your clothed mound. He stops for a moment, like he wants to ask permission.
“Eddie,” You say softly, almost startled by how spent you sound, “I don’t know if we should–”
You wanted to keep going–god did you want to, but there was a lot of shit you needed to figure out first. And luckily, this didn’t feel like a one off experience, the way Eddie looked up at you with his wide eyed gaze, lips still obscenely wet and puffy.
“I’ve never–you know,” You struggle to find the words, “I’m a virgin. You should probably know that.”
You had enough common sense to know that Eddie wasn’t, judging by the pack of condoms he never bothered to put in his nightstand drawer, it seemed likely enough that he’s probably fucked a girl or two before, not that you cared. You just weren’t sure if this was the right time to be delving into uncharted territory.
“Fuck, I-” He replies, slightly breathless, “We totally don’t have to. I didn’t really expect–I just wanted to kiss you at first but Jesus–you’re fucking amazing.”
You laugh openly, falling back against the mattress. The look on Eddie’s face was priceless, something you wanted to take a picture of and remember forever. But, the way his fingers accidentally drag against you from where they were now resting against your inner thigh are enough to shake you back into reality.
“Sorry.” He says sheepishly, dragging his fingers back.
You stop him on a whim. The whim being the fact that you’re just incredibly to horny to leave with the state you were in. Fucked out, without even being fucked properly.
“We can…if you want.” You suggest tentatively. “Just for a little.”
Teenage hormones were a hell of hard thing to overcome and you were desperately losing that battle.
“If you don’t want to it’s fine–I get that you’ve never–” Eddie starts, but you emphasize by dragging his finger up your thigh and right about the waistband of your shorts–similar to the one from the day before, short and just as scandalous.
“It’s not like I’ve never touched myself before, Eddie.” You assure him, feeling the way his fingers played with the fabric teasingly. “I’m a virgin, not a puritan.”
“God, you’re so fucking hot.” He sighs, forehead resting against your shoulder. You jump at the first touch of his fingers against your bare cunt, and part of you wants to feel embarrassed about the wetness that had collected there, but you were way too horny to give a shit. “And so wet.” It comes out as a moan. A fucking moan.
It should be criminal how attractive Eddie sounds right now, fingers exploring a part of you that only you’ve ever known. He drags a single digit from bottom to top, collecting the wetness. The tightness of your shorts left little room for him to move his hand around and the contact was almost earth-shattering. He hesitates, taking a moment to circle around your clit. You sigh quietly, which he takes as a good sign, testing the motion out again, and again, until you’re practically keening from the pressure building there. The way his finger slips into you is jarring, how easily he moves past your folds, starting a slow, steady motion of guiding his fingers in and out of you, occasionally stopping to drag his fingers against the most sensitive part of your body, the only place you wanted him to be.
“Oh,” You moan softly, “fuck, please.”
Eddie could come at the sound of you, the way your voice squeaks in desperation. He chuckles softly, using his thumb to circle your clit, teasing and slow. You could get yourself there just fine, but the foreign feeling of a hand that wasn’t yours, knowing your body almost as well as you did, it was enough to have you squeezing down on his fingers in pleasure.
“More?” He asks softly, looking from his face had been resting against the middle of your chest, watching as his fingers disappeared into your shorts.
“Please.” You beg, almost desperate. His second finger joins the first, adding a nice stretch that you’ve never really felt like this. His fingers were so much bigger than your own, so much more filling. You gasp loudly at the sudden change in pace, closing your eyes in a bid to hide your own embarrassment at the sound of your own voice. When you finally pry your eyes open, Eddie is staring at you. You weren’t sure how long he had been, but his gaze is dark, hot–you want to disappear.
“I want to hear you.” He assures you, emphasizing his words by working his finger against your clit quickly, causing you to mewl in response, back arching off the bed. “You sound so pretty, princess.”
And if there was any other way to die, this is exactly how you wanted to go out.
The pressure builds and builds, Eddie finding every way to pull sounds out of you, some you didn’t even know you were capable of. You can feel the way he’s absently, but still gently, grinding against your leg, where he’d maneuvered himself after a while, in hopes of relieving some of the pressure off of his own issue. You could tell he was holding back, which made you feel slightly guilty.
The thought is immediately interrupted by your orgasm washing over you out of the blue, fast, nearly knocking you out from the feeling that spreads throughout your entire body. Eddie works you through the end, even when your body is oversensitive and tingling.
“Jesus Christ.” You sigh, staring up at the ceiling.
“Nah, just me.” He says cheekily, grinning.
You reach for the clasp on his belt on instinct, but he stops you with a hand on your wrist. “It’s fine.” He laughs softly, “Besides, the second you touch my dick, I’m done for.”
It’s absurd, but it makes you giggle to yourself.
“I’ll take care of it later.” He admits, adjusting the front of his jeans to provide relief. The thought of him in bed, dick in hand, had you squeezing your thighs together shamelessly.
“O-Okay.” You reply, pushing yourself up as he moved off of you. “Well, thanks—I guess?”
You both fall into a fit of laughter immediately, not finding any reason to ignore how ridiculous you felt. Not to mention that way your heart twisted at the way Eddie’s grin reached from ear to ear. It wasn’t a new thing exactly, Eddie smiled a lot, but you knew this one was reserved for both of you, and that had your stomach doing back flips.
“My pleasure.” He replies, putting on a fancy, pretentious accent. “Princess.”
“Why princess?” You ask curiously, wondering where the name fits in for you.
“I don’t know,” Eddie shrugs, sitting back on his heels, “You've always been little miss ‘pretty and perfect’ to me—smart, and you don’t really put up with anyone’s shit—I almost didn’t believe it when you asked me to sell weed to you that first time.”
“Thought I was gonna rat you out, huh?” You ask teasingly.
“Maybe just a little.” He admits, holding his thumb and pointer finger an inch from each other. You toss a pillow at his head, he takes the hit like a champ, throwing it softly back at you.

You two spend the next couple weeks studying off and on, not really bothering to avoid hanging out at school. Dustin actually enjoyed it; since he practically worshiped Eddie and you were another friend he had to talk to, not that Mike Wheeler wasn’t sufficient enough, his mind was just flooded with girls and Dustin was so far from the precipice of females.
Even if you spent half of your study sessions making out, you still managed to get enough work done that Eddie was making a little improvement—not to mention the look on Ms. McNally’s face when she called him out in class and he answered her question correct—you would’ve thought hell had finally froze over. Study sessions went from a weekend basis, to Eddie showing up to your shift at Family Video to ask about a question on the homework on any given day, not trying to hide the fact that he wanted another reason to talk to you outside of school.
“If you manage to help him graduate, it will be a miracle.” Steve says one day, leaning in as Eddie left the store.
You show up at his door that night, ready for another one of your tedious study sessions. But he’s answering the door before you have a chance to think.
“My uncle’s home.” He tells, looking back over his shoulder. You’d gotten lucky with the past couple of weeks, timing your visits almost perfectly, so that they aligned with his uncle’s work schedule. But, you weren’t sure what to do now.
“Well, we can just study—it’s fine.” You tell him quietly, “or I can come over tomorrow?”
“No.” He all but blurts out, “Sorry—we, we can just take my van. I know a spot where we can go.”
You’re hesitant at first, but you agree—it’s Eddie, you knew it would be fine.
His van is incredibly spacey, to your surprise. It made a lot of sense, though. You could tell he’d had more than a few smoke sessions based on how it practically reeked of weed and his cologne. When you’re stopped at the spot—a wide expanse of trees covering a large area and a giant skull shaped rock in the middle, he swings the back doors open, giving you a better view of his setup.
“Skull rock, Eddie? Seriously?” You deadpan, climbing out of the passenger seat and to the back of his van.
“What?” He asks innocently, hands flying out to his side in question. “It’s a great spot.”
You could point out every surface that Steve had made out with a girl on that rock, from memory—despite wanting to know, Steve just hated keeping his sexcapades to himself sometimes. Either way, you couldn’t complain. It was quiet, secluded, you didn’t have to worry about anyone finding Eddie toking up in the back if he so decided, even if you didn’t plan to partake. And part of you knew, not much study was going to take place anyways.
“Can I draw you?” You ask randomly, Eddie peering at you from where he’s perched on the edge of his van. “Sorry, that was really forward—I just—“
“Sure.” He agrees, moving deeper inside the van, the night sky nearly swallowing the van whole. If it weren’t for the overhead lights, you wouldn’t be able to see more than a couple inches in front of your face, luckily they lit the interior up well enough.
“How do you want me, Picasso?” He asks, flaring his jacket out.
“Just sit—and, what are you doing?” You laugh, watching as he knelt down, chin on his fist, a goofy attempt at a heroic pose.
“Too much?” He asks, but he doesn’t need the answer. He can tell by the amused look on your face, so he shifts onto his backside, legs spread out slightly, one lifted up so his foot was planted in the floor.
“Act like we’re in your room, talking—just be comfortable.” You remind him, letting the pencil feel out the paper.
And you don’t think you’ve ever heard Eddie stay so quiet, for so long. But he’s watching you, just as much you had been watching him, fiddling with his rings occasionally.
“Something on your mind?” You ask curiously, about halfway through the sketch, “I can see the gears turning in your head.”
“Just thinking.” He says quietly, eyes still locked on yours. “I don’t want to distract you, though.”
Though, that was really the plan all along—so you took the bait.
“No, tell me.” You demand, setting the pencil and book down.
He chuckles to himself, “I’m just thinking about how I wanna kiss you right now.”
You smile knowingly, a little shy now by how intently he’s looking at you. “Then why don’t you?”
And like a dam breaking, he’s on you instantly, hands gripping under your thighs to lay you down on the blanket that was covering the expanse of the back of his van.
“Wait, the doors.” You tell him through quick kisses. “Close the doors.”
And you’re right. The last thing you need is someone walking up on two high school students getting hot and heavy in the back of a van. The doors slam shut and he’s finding his way back to you, eyeing your mouth greedily. Eddie had gotten more and more comfortable with maneuvering you around how he wanted, knowing just how to have you begging for more and more.
His mouth leaves yours, kissing the underside of your chin, your neck, the small part of your chest that was exposed to him. He wanted to worship you in every way and form possible. He’s got his dick pressed against your core, still jailed by the confines of his jeans, the coldness of the chain he had attached to his pants, the one bearing factor that was keeping you grounded. Otherwise, you probably would have left the planet already.
“Wanna taste you so bad.” He groans against your neck, free hand coming up to rest against your cheek, stroking the delicate skin. “Please?”
“Yeah,” You rush out, licking your suddenly too dry lips, “only if you let me taste you too.” You slip your hands in the waistband of your sweatpants, pushing them and your underwear down in one go. You definitely want to feel ashamed, but you can’t help yourself. He freaking out at the thought of your mouth around him, you could say the same for yourself.
You expect him to delve right in, devour you immediately, but he stills himself. He mumbled something into the inside of your thigh, you try not to think about it too much, opening your legs a little wider. He’s nipping and biting at the most sensitive parts of your skin, watching you squirm in anticipation.
And when the flat of his tongue finally makes contact with your core, you moan unabashedly, reveling in the feeling. His nose nudges at your clit, and the sounds—god, the sounds. You blushed a particular shade of red, ashamed at how well your body was responding to his touch.
“So pretty and perfect.” He says against your cunt, “Just like I suspected.”
You laugh at the absurdity of it all, moaning when he sneaks a finger up to join with the work his mouth couldn’t cover. He was working you up, he wanted you to come, but the fact that he already had you 1-0 was a crime and that just wouldn’t suffice.
He grabbed your hands, which had been laying useless at your side, and guided them to the beautiful mane of hair attached to him. You wrapped your fingers around the hair at tugged, ever so softly. The look on his face as he pulled back was something you’d never soon forget, mouth covered in your clear slick, his tongue reaching out to lick his bottom lip.
“Wanna suck your dick, Eddie.” You begged. “Please.”
The look of pleading you gave him had him melting in your hands. He wordlessly lifted himself to his knees, wasting no time to undo the buckle of his belt. You helped him along the way, unzipping and pulling at the waistband of his jeans. When you finally found the chance to switch positions, he was already pulling the top of his underwear underneath his ass, but you couldn’t be bothered to wait any longer. You moved on instinct, grabbing his dick in your hand and tugging on the shaft gently, testing his body out.
Even though you didn’t have much to compare it to, Eddie Munson still had the prettiest dick you’ve ever seen.
“Shit, say that again.” He groans, watching you lean forward to kiss at the tip. You hadn’t realized you even said that aloud until he was staring down at you, completely wrecked by the idea of you finding his dick pretty.
“It’s so pretty and perfect.” You tease, licking the underside of his dick in one, long stripe.
He curses audibly, head banging against the metal of the van.
You take him carefully, slowly. Maybe you’re doing everything wrong, but the moan that escapes him proves otherwise. His hand curls around the back of your head gently, guiding and setting a pace. He’s showing you what he likes, so you give it to him. You’re careful not to scrape against his shaft with your teeth, using your tongue to trace slow circles around the tip before swallowing him down in one go, it was a lot more than you could initially handle, it makes your eyes water and you pull back for a moment to catch your breath.
“Sorry, too much.” You apologize halfheartedly and Eddie gives you an incredulous look, both mesmerized and completely caught off guard.
“I’ll take that as a compliment.” He breaths out, eyes searching yours for a moment. “I don’t want to sound forward but I really wanna fuck you.”
If it was anyone else, they’d probably be dead. But, the way Eddie sounds almost desperate is the entire reason you’re nodding your head in earnest.
“Yeah. Yeah, we can do that.” You agree, despite how terrified the thought made you feel.
“We can stop if it’s too much for you.” Eddie tells you, sincerity ringing through. “I’m serious.”
You nod, “I’m good, I swear.”
⋆·˚ ༘ *
Eddie has you wedged in between the makeshift pillow he made and himself, laid out comfortably on your side, naked from head to toe, and you try not to linger on the way he’s staring at your breasts, or the hand that’s running between your legs, dipping into your folds again. You adjust yourself slightly, legs widening at the touch. He’s gentle and you want to cry at the thought that someone would want to take so much care with you. He fingers you open slowly, swallowing your moans throat deep, lingering kisses that you never want to end. You can hear the wrapper crinkle between you, watching as pulls away to rip it open with his teeth.
Mesmerized as he rolls the condom down his shaft, you clench at the idea of him being inside. You didn’t want to think anymore, letting your body run on autopilot.
“We can go slow. Just tell me what feels good.” He reminds you, hiking your leg up against his hip, positioning himself at your entrance. You nod silently, bracing yourself. Your hand wraps around his wrist where he’s caressing your head, letting the slow, stretching feeling of him pushing inside take over your body. It stings, but barely—you nod again, looking up to let him know that this was okay, that you were okay.
He gradually picks the pace up, once he’s finally seated inside you and you’re accustomed to the feeling of him. It wasn’t until then that you realized just how noisy Eddie could be—moaning every obscenity under the sun into mouth as you swallowed up everyone with a kiss, gasping for air when he grazed your clit with his thumb from where it had been resting against your hip bone.
You can feel the way he’s holding back, not sure how much you could take. He’s gripping you tight, and you attempt to break him from whatever daze he’s locked himself into.
“Eddie, it’s fine.” You say breathlessly, “I can take it.”
And like that, he releases you, maneuvering you onto your back to adjust himself over you, pulling himself out to adjust before he’s careful thrusting back in, hand tucked under the soft skin at the back of your knee, bearing the weight you couldn’t bother to hold up.
He leans forward and mouths at your breasts, taking the time to graze his teeth against the tip of the the soft bud of your nipple, causing a gasp to bubble out of your chest. “Do that again.” You beg.
He laughs quietly, showing the other breast the same care, then switching back to the other. Fuck, it was so good. You’d almost been too distracted to realize the pace he’d picked up, more consistent as the sound your bodies coming together filled up the silence. That and the moans you couldn’t bother to keep quiet, mixing in with his own.
“Feel so good, princess.” He groans, mouth tucked away into your neck, mouthing at the skin there. “Squeezing my dick just right.”
Eddie has a filthy mouth, obviously. You were definitely bookmarking that for later.
“Wanna come, Eddie. Please.” You gasp, trying desperately to push back to meet the more desperate pace Eddie had set.
“Here,” He’s grabbing your hand, guiding it between the both of you, “wanna see you touch yourself, see if you can make yourself come as good as I can.”
Part of you doesn’t know how to respond, so you don’t, but you mindlessly obey the request at hand, circling your clit with your own two fingers, gasping at how sensitive you were. Fingers were one thing, but Eddie’s dick—that was something else entirely. You’re trying desperately to keep up, but Eddie can tell you’re overwhelmed, overworked, so he slips his hand against yours, helping you through the motion.
“You’re almost there, I can tell.” He murmurs against your ear, the hotness of his breath sending tingles down your entire body. “I got you.”
He moved your fingers with his, hips shaking sloppily, thrusting himself through his own climax, watching as your mouth dropped open in a wordless shout, orgasm hitting you in a flash of white, leaving you panting for breath when you came back to earth.
Eddie gives you a few minutes to settle, brushing your wild hair behind your ears and out of your face—he pulls out slowly, removing and tying the condom, discarding it in the front of the van inside of the tiny trash can nestled underneath the passenger side dash. He seems worried.
“It was good.” You assure him, hoping he wasn’t stressing over the idea of ruining anything for you. “I don’t really have anything to compare it to but if it’s anything like that, it was pretty damn good.”
He chuckles gently, his chest shaking at the motion. You finally have a clear view of some of the tattoos you never really noticed until now. Eddie had slipped his underwear back on in the process, helping you search through the flurry of mixed clothes to find your own.
“I guess I just wasn’t sure how we’d handle things after.” He says quietly, taking a seat next to. You see him reach for the pre-rolled blunt sitting in the ashtray and you grab his wrist, pulling it toward you.
“Well, do you want me to leave?” It wasn’t meant to sound harsh, Eddie didn’t seem to take it that way either.
“No.” He replies sheepishly, hands resting in his lap.
“Then stop worrying. Stop acting like you just scandalized me.” You laugh, poking his stomach. “I think we’re way past that.”
“God, because the sounds you make should be illegal and I don’t like being a one and done type of guy—“ Eddie would have gone on a tangent had you let him, but the gentle reminder you offered was enough to shut him up.
“Well, next time—“
“Next time?” He quirks up, eyebrows raised.
“Next time,” You repeat, feeling a little silly, “we’ll find out just how long the both of us can get. But, first—you gotta pass English.”
The exasperated sigh that Eddie let out was enough to have you curling forward in laughter.
“You’re gonna be the death of me, princess.” He smiles, reaching forward to kiss you, chaste and sweet.

❆ ͙͛ ˚₊⋆ now and then
Since the fateful day of his death, Sunghoon Park was infamously known for the heinous acts he so gallantly committed out of love for his late little sister.
For the most part, the identity’s involved in Sunghoon’s amateur high school killings to his eventually more-experienced university slaughters were publicly announced.
Those victims being Cha Jun-Hwan, Nakamura Kazuha, Maddison Dupont, as well as her twin brother Maxwell, and a few unnamed others.
News outlets gave you, Sunghoon’s deadly obsession in this horror story, the nickname V, as you played the role of his only victor, escaping the torture fest you endured for three months while his other victims could barely last an hour against his signature weapon:
A Buck 120 Hunting Knife.
Memories of the events that Sunghoon sent you through roamed within the darkness behind your drowsy eyes, and it didn’t help that he practically haunted every other aspect of your waking life.
You smelt him after scrubbing yourself near clean of your own skin.
You could hear his daunting voice in stolen moments of silence.
You saw his face behind every masked murderer in your nightmares.
His oh-so-handsomely crafted face.
You could only imagine how many more people would exalt his name as a Dahmer or Bundy after seeing it.
That kind of thing always bothered you...seeing people on social media praise murderous monsters as if they were worthy of admiration.
In the beginning, you always thought that “V” was short for victim, and it honestly enabled you to feel like one.
That is, up until Dr. Lee, who you always just called Heeseung, stepped in to help you recover.
Or… more accurately, forget.
"How long are you gonna let Sunghoon control your life?" He'd ask you in half-whisper, to which you'd only shrug in response.
It wasn't like you didn't want to get over everything that happened.
Hell, if it were possible, you’d want a complete brain-wipe of Sunghoon, but Heeseung tried everything that was clinically moral to help you.
Your treatment started with cognitive behavioral strategies that helped you associate your fears with the strength it took for you to both withstand and overcome them in reality.
Next, you went through imagery rehearsal therapy to get over the nightmares.
Multiple times a week, Heeseung would ask you to describe your nightmares in detail, drawing pictures or writing out the most vivid scenes as needed. Then, you would write out a changed version of the dream, mentally rehearsing the new imagery until your nightmares were replaced by it.
In all of your illustrated revisions, Sunghoon’s face was completely blurred out in black crayon, because in an ideal world, you wouldn't want to remember that face ever again.
And so, you didn't.
It was a rare medical phenomenon that your treatment resulted in you fully forgetting the face of your humanoid fear, but you still weren't quite ready to live normally.
Despite three months of therapy having passed, Heeseung still wanted to work with you in recovery for at least another half-year.
And this is the exact path that led to you and Heeseung developing into something a little more than friends. Something like occasional dinner dates with equally occasional kissing afterward.
On the lips, of course. That's where he liked kissing you the most.
Currently you were marked at three weeks on a prescribed medication for PTSD and anxiety patients, and you can't remember when you felt better.
There were a few side effects to the medicine, like declined appetite and wonky periods, but you’d rather take that over a potentially worse lifestyle without the meds.
You were finally getting your life back, and with Sunghoon officially out of the picture and new friends by your side, you had nothing to worry about.
Right?
➠ monday
2:11pm
The ways of a Café Royale worker came naturally to you, which is why your boss (aka the café owner) put you in charge of training the new employee, Lee Hyun-Seo, but you just called her Leeseo.
You had been training the young girl for over two weeks, yet she still struggled with the entry level basics, like handling restaurant grade coffee makers or properly handling a broom.
Despite how much of a slow learner she was, you and the staff decided to keep little Leeseo around.
One of the reasons being that her parents were struggling financially, and the girl just wanted to lend a hand with some of their bills.
The other reason was that Leeseo had a way of charming people, staff and costumers included—like a vessel of sunshine, she almost always had a smile on her face, and you commended her for that given everything she was going through at home.
“I can help!” Leeseo beamed, leaping to take the second tray of food and drinks you carried.
“Thanks, kiddo,” you chirped, finally using two hands to hold the tray.
“Ugh, what must I do for you to stop calling me that?” She whined, placing the steaming hot mugs on a costumer's table.
“Focus,” you said, pointing out how she nearly spilled a cup of black tea on someone’s lap.
You beelined back to the front counter, grabbing the plate of assorted sandwiches that just came out. “That’s for table 16,” Yunjin said, “and this is for the hottie at 23,” she continued, handing you a folded napkin.
“What, did he ask for math help?” You teased, observing her phone number jotted down in blue ink on the piece of paper.
“Just give it to him, alright?” She pleaded with frustration, turning back around to prepare the upcoming orders.
You hit up table 16 first before making your way toward table 23, where Nate was sitting. He was the same guy with dyed silver hair you met a few weeks ago, and since then, he had become a regular costumer at Café Royale.
The most you knew about him was that he enjoyed writing creatively, and was working on a piece to enter for a contest. He was also very passionate about his afternoon dose of caffeine, which you find rather odd at best…
You’d give it to Nate that he was a particularly attractive guy, but not worth doing anything unprofessional like… I don’t know, passing a customer your phone number at work?
“Good afternoon, Nate,” you smiled, handing him the napkin to which he immediately noticed its inky etchings.
“Damn, now I’m offended that you think I’m single,” he joked, eyes following the series of numbers on the paper.
“Trust me, I’m not your secret admirer,” you replied, pulling out your note pad to write, “What can I get for you today?”
“Oh, I had something at home. I just like writing here sometimes,” he smiled, closing his computer.
“Well, it must be something juicy if you won’t even let me see it.”
“Ugh, it’s in draft form right now! Give me a few days and I’ll be happy to show yo—“
“Focus, ____,” Leeseo interrupted as she walked by, showing off the $50 tip she just nabbed from table 16.
You sighed, both at Leeseo’s petty remark, your loss on 50 bucks, and Nate’s ability to enthrall your attention.
“Good luck editing,” you smiled, closing your notepad before getting back to work.
Nate had become a usual costumer ever since the first day you met about three months after you started working here.
You two grew particularly close, especially once he started staying back at the cafe during your night shifts to walk you to your car.
Whenever the sun set a few hours before your shift ended, he noticed how nervous you looked... staring outside the French café windows as if the starry night whispered threats.
If it weren’t for Heeseung, you wouldn’t even have a personal car to get you from point A to point B. He gave it to you as a gift once you started working.
He was able to pick you up for the first week of your job, but after that, he couldn’t make the commitment anymore given his own chaotic work schedule.
So, in typical Heeseung fashion, he bought you a whole freaking car, and he wouldn’t let you refuse his offer under any circumstances.
“Just take the damn keys, ____,” he’d chuckle, watching as you shyly did just that, walking over to the vehicle and taking your first spin.
Back to Nate though, he had a funny way of telling you “bye” on nights like those.
"Watch your back," he'd say, waving with arguably the most attractive smirk you've ever seen as you’d pull out of the driveway and head home safely.
Of course, you'd never admit that first part to Heeseung.
You read the order note that Yunjin just wrote from the last costumer: Two iced vanilla lattes with four mini dessert pops. As a waiter, you already expected that you’d do a lot more floor work than just placing food and drinks on a table here and there, so you took it upon yourself to help Yunjin out by fixing this order.
“Thank you BIG TIME,” Yunjin exclaimed, wiping off the counter near the register.
“Of course, you’ve stirred enough drinks for the both of us.”
“Pfft, I was talking about passing Nate my number, Strawberry Shortcake. Do you think he’ll actually call back?”
“Hmm, probably not… I think he said something about having a girlfriend already?”
“Liar! You berries and cream filled liar,” Yunjin teased, tossing a handful of blueberries at you.
“That doesn’t sound very PG,” you giggled back to her, eating one of the blueberries that landed on your workspace.
"Hey," Leeseo said shyly, tapping you on the shoulder, “I’m gonna step out for a bit, if that’s okay.”
“Mhm, you can’t fool me, iPad kid. Now focus, remember?”
“I am focusing, ____… Its just some girls came in from my school and I really don’t want them to mess with me at my job.”
You handed Leeseo a pair of tongs to grab the cake pops you needed, “I didn’t see any girls, Leeseo.”
The metal tongs clinked against the glass cake pop case, “I told you about them last week, ____… plus, girls like them are pretty hard to miss,” she whispered, pointing her head in their direction.
Pretty hard to miss? Yes, but basic modern day teenagers nonetheless? Double yes.
You tried not to make your peeking look so obvious, so you finished up the lattes and brought them to Leeseo’s classmates to get a closer look.
From their conversation, you could tell the two girls were talking crap about someone, thanks to stream of swear words that flew from their lip-sticked mouths. You placed their order down on the table, but they ignored you, daring to raise their voices even louder so you couldn’t get a “You’re welcome” in.
Yikes, you thought to yourself, thinking about the way your high school self, Maddison, and Kaz used to bash Wonyoung while she was in the same room.
“Aiko’s the short one with the eyeliner, and Maeve's the taller one with pink hair. Don’t let their looks fool you though… Aiko’s the real monster.” You remembered Leeseo telling you when you drove her home after training one time.
That was the same day Leeseo mixed up more than four orders and accidentally sweared in front of a little kid. He asked her for a breakfast croissant to which she replied, “Sorry, but you’re shit out of luck bud, we just ran out.”
Harmless mistake, I know, but the kid’s mother wasn’t too forgiving about it.
“Those girls from my school have been blowing up my phone with hate messages since I left school today… I swear they have nothing better to do with themselves…”
“And does that explain why you said “shit” to a little kid,” you asked.
“N-no, but, they’ve got my head in a bad place… My focus is probably ruined for the rest of the day now,” she sighed, washing the chocolate from her hands before sitting on the kitchen floor.
Leeseo found herself in the same place today, sitting on the kitchen floor as you brought Aiko and Maeve their cake pops before joining Leeseo on the ground.
“I knew a girl just like you when I was in high school,” you began, voice almost falling to a whisper, “Much like those girls out there, me and my friends treated people terribly, especially this one person.”
“So then what happened?” Leeseo asked, looking at you, even though your gaze fell to your lap, stuck in a daydream.
Memories that part of you wished you could forget resurfaced in your mind. You swallowed the lump in your throat, tightening your grip around nothing before answering.
“She killed herself.”
Leeseo’s eyes widened a little at your words, her chest raising differently as her breathing style changed.
You could tell she was shocked, as would anyone who heard such a thing.
She remained quiet as if waiting for you to say something else, and so you did.
“Hey, if you’d feel better hiding in the kitchen until they leave, you can.”
She looked up and smiled. “Thanks, ____!” She beamed, reaching in her pocket for her smartphone.
“Nuh uh, you’re still on shift, buddy, now help Yunjin out with the dishes!” You chuckled, heading to the front to deliver more orders.
Yunjin was the only other person you had told about Wonyoung and everything else.
It wasn’t intentional, but after having one to many egg nog shots at a Café Royale employee's function, you confessed as she drove you home.
You had grown comfortable with Yunjin knowing that dark part of your past, and even now with Leeseo, given that you’d always viewed her like a little sister.
Beep, beep.
It was a reminder on your phone that you'd set yesterday, saying that you had to meet with Heeseung at his place around 5pm.
Maybe the girls won't notice if I slip out for the day, you mischievously thought to yourself, hanging your work apron over the wall coat hook before sneaking out of the café undetected.
7:03pm
Traffic had you running late to Heeseung's place, but he wasn't to upset about it, given that he got held back at work an extra hour to sort files in his office. Needless to say, your dinner "date" ended up starting a little later than desired.
Even so, Heeseung made an effort to keep the night special, but it seemed as though your mind was in a different place at the time.
“You’ve barely touched your pasta,” Heeseung nudged, thinking of any way to start a conversation amidst the awkward silence.
“Oh, sorry! Yunjin brought me a coffee so my appetite’s a bit mild.”
“That’s okay, I’m really just trying to get you to say something,” he smiled, but it didn’t quite reach his lovesick eyes. He just stared down at his plate, twirling the saucy red noodles around his fork.
“Uhm… well, how was work?” You tried, cringing at yourself.
Heeeseung put his fork down, wiping the corner of his mouth with a napkin, “____, why’re you acting like a stranger all of a sudden? You’re always comfortable talking to me. Is it because I was late today?”
Your gaze fell to his lap where he sat with parted legs. Shit, stop peeking, you internally scolded yourself.
You're not sure what made you feel this way tonight, but your mind was on everything else but the pasta in front of you.
Was it the way he decided to cuff his sleeves today? No, he always wore his shirts like that. Maybe it was the way he occasionally tugged at the tie around his neck, or the little breaths he'd let out each time you crossed and uncrossed your legs, or the smirk he'd flash whenever you failed to hold eye contact with him for longer than five seconds.
“So I see you’d rather daydream about my dick than have a simple conversation with me,” He said, voice sounding offended yet prideful at the same time.
You shook your head at his words, biting your lip to keep in the embarrassed laugh that dared to slip past your mouth, “Sure, but you don’t have to say it like that.”
“Why not? I can tell you liked it,” He pressed, talking a sip of the white grape champagne in his wine glass, coating his peachy lips.
In all honesty, you've been sexually attracted to Heeseung since you first met him during one of the darkest stages of your life, and you couldn't help but feel bad about it.
Of course you appreciated him for other reasons, but at the end of the day, he’s your crush and mental health care provider all at once. You dreaded the idea of adding “fuck buddy” to that mix, and frankly, you weren’t sure you'd be able to handle it, despite already testing that boundary a few months ago at his freaking job of all places.
“There are just times when I feel like what you said might be true,” you answered, finally feeling comfortable enough to look him in the face.
“Times where you'd rather daydream about my dick than talk to me?”
“Heeseung!!”
“Fine, fine, I’ll stop,” He chuckled, his contagious bright smile making you laugh a little yourself, "So what is it?... That happens in your daydreams, I mean," he went on.
"In detail or the safe for work version?" You giggled again, honestly trying not to engage in his flirting for the sake of your own existence.
"I never noticed how pretty your laugh is when you're nervous and trying to hide it," he smiled, tilting his head at you.
"Oh and where'd you find that one, in a Rizzler's 101 Guide?" You teased, nudging his knee with yours.
"No, I really mean it," he smiled again, getting up from his seat and meeting you on the couch.
Gently cupping your face in his hands, he pulled you in for a kiss, which quickly led to a full blown make out session. You don't think you've ever felt hornier while kissing someone as you let out sounds you didn't even know you could make.
Heeseung's hand got lost under your shirt while yours were gripping at his neck, pulling him impossibly close to you. Your legs were hooked around his waist as he softly grinded against you, both of you feeling light headed just from the simple touches and sensations.
You wondered what it’d be like to go all the way, so you took off your top, and he followed after you, kissing down your neck as you clenched around nothing.
The warmth of his breath against your cold skin sent shivers down your spine, your fingers combing through his hair as if trying to calm his growing desire for you.
The little nips he left on your neck reminded you of the way Sunghoon used to wake you up from naps, but you tried to stay in the moment.
Heeseung held your waist with one hand while he slipped past your panties with the other, looking at your face for some kind of cue before touching you any further.
You let out a whine, feeling his fingertip barely graze your sweet spot before he started to rub it in circles.
“I love the little sounds you make for me,” he whispered, inserting two fingers with ease given how wet you were.
The words of Sunghoon echoed in the back of your mind, which was almost worse than actually seeing his face. As much as you wanted this moment with Heeseung, your mind was letting your past get in the way of it.
You felt your heart beat increase with each thrust of Heeseung’s fingers, his pouty lips latched to your skin as if he were a leech.
It all felt so good, but every time Sunghoon crossed your mind, you felt like screaming.
You tried keeping your eyes open so your mind couldn’t deceive you with images, but a certain thought resurfaced when you felt Heeseung pulling down your pants.
I’ll show you just how deranged I am.
“Stop! Stop it! G-get away from me!” You thrashed beneath Heeseung, causing him to jerk away immediately. He stared back at your shaking body in shock, trying to figure out what just happened and why.
“_-____, are...are you okay?” He asked sincerely, looking into your now teary eyes.
Your chest kept heaving as a mix of scary emotions started to build up at your core. “I’m sorry, Heeseung,” you sniffled, swallowing the lump in your throat. “I just... I can’t do this.”
“W-what do you mean? Can’t do what?” He asked again, putting his shirt back on and passing you yours.
“The touching stuff... I just-" you sighed, preparing yourself for his response, “I couldn't stop thinking about him.”
Heeseung knew exactly who you meant, despite you not being able to say his name.
“I understand what you’ve been through, ____, but I hate that it has to affect us even now. I thought you said you got over all that...”
You scoffed at his words, “Aren’t you the doctor here? That’s how trauma works, I’m afraid.”
You reached for your own top, snaking your head through the hole and fixing yourself on the couch.
He stared back at the pasta that now set awkwardly on the coffee table before you. As if your words went through one ear and out the other, he went on to ask, “Is there someone else?”
“What? No, Heeseung, I would never do that to you.”
“I get that, but would it really be all that bad? It’s not like we’re officially in a relationship.”
“Heeseung—”
“I know we’ve been through a lot together, and if you’re not ready for this kind of thing, I’ll move on, love.”
“Just because I’m not ready to be intimate with you?”
It was strange how just a few moments ago you were giggling only to now be turning cheeks at each other. The room fell silent for a few moments before Heeseung got up from his seat and handed you your purse, “You can go now.”
You blinked in disbelief, “You're kidding, right?”
“No. I want you out of here for the night. You need some space.”
“Are you sure this is about what I need?” You asked as he walked you to the door.
“Thanks for coming over. Have a good night, ____.” He whispered, not meeting your face before he closed the door behind you.
You felt confused as you stood outside his apartment, feet practically glued to his "Welcome In" doormat.
The irony, you thought to yourself.
You didn't wanna think about if there was something you could've said or done to change the way things went tonight.
Another oddity was that even though Heeseung was persistent on you continuing with therapy because he knew you weren't ready, he somehow expected you to at least trust him in that moment.
Maybe it was time for you to accept the fact that you'd never be normal... not after Sunghoon.
8:22pm
You went straight home after your argument with Heeseung, that is, if you could even call it that.
By now, you were very aware that guilt was one of your strongest emotions, so you felt the need to call Heeseung and leave things on a more positive note.
Or perhaps it was the only way you could try killing off the awkwardness burning in your veins.
Kicking your shoes off, you didn't bother to wash up before plopping your body on the couch, crossing your feet and typing in your phone password.
You went to your "Favorite" contacts list and pressed Heeseung's name, staring at the call option for a few moments before finally clicking it.
Boop... the dial tone rang.
Boop... the sound lingered a few more times before going to the voicemail option.
Ouch.
You instead opted to leave a voice message, rambling some simple (and apologetic) nonsense and pressing send.
He must've read it because three, hopeful dots appeared as you awaited his response... that never came.
Ring, ring, ring, your phone blared, an unknown caller daring to interrupt your silly love affair.
"Ugh," you sighed, hanging up before the number called again.
Ring, ring, ring.
We can all take a guess what your mind immediately thought of at the familiarly ominous ringtone.
Not wanting to feed into your own cowardice, you answered the call, hoping that it would somehow grant you a fleeting feeling of control.
"Long time no see, ____," the raspy voice slithered from the other end of the phone, laced with a craving for mischief.
You were a bit startled by the caller using your name.
"Sorry, but you're a little late with the Halloween pranks. Try again next year-"
"I was thinking, we should play a game."
Oh dear, not this shit again, you thought to yourself.
"Uh, I think you've got the movies mixed up, buddy. That line's from Saw," you replied, fighting back the giggle that danced in your throat.
The old you would've been trembling from a call such as this, but given the circumstances, you were glad for anything that would distract from your cringey thoughts of Heeseung.
"Hmm, I see you're still the scary movie type?" The voice snickered.
"Not at the moment. Right now, I'm more interested in this game of yours. Though, if it involves stripping, you can count me out early."
"Heheheh, don't worry. There's no stripping this time. I've learned from experience that you're not down for that kind of thing. On-top-of-the-clothes fun was always your favorite."
Your jaw clenched at his statement, making you curious to know who was behind the call this time, but you continued to play along.
"Okay, I'm listening."
"Perfect. It's called guess who's gonna get skewered like a fucking pig?"
"Whoo, we're jumping straight into the extremes, huh?"
"Absolutely! Extreme is my favorite," the voice went on, but you were now (re)distracted by thoughts of Heeseung, dumbly staring at the three dots on your phone screen that had yet to dissolve into a message.
"Hey, you still there?"
"Oop- Sorry... you must be boring me, I guess," you teased.
"You guess what?"
"Oh, I forgot we were playing a game," you chirped, sitting up straight now as if the caller was right in front of you, "Hmm, do I get any hints?"
"No, you're smart enough to guess without any."
"Fine," you exhaled, assuming that the answer was yourself. Preparing to perform, you cleared your throat in case you had to fake-cry, "My guess is some guy who probably watched the Scream movies one too many times."
"Well well well. Has my life been threatened by the very person who failed to take it?"
"W-what did you just say?"
"Aww, you almost sound excited about that. Do you miss me, princess?"
"Uhh, I don't know what you're talking about," your voice cracked at the dreadful nickname, a fear you haven't felt in months rumbling in your chest.
"Do you miss the way I made you feel?"
"I hope this isn't your idea of a funny prank, because the humor died after you asked about scary movies."
"You have a strange obsession with death, don't you ____? Answer me this: when was the last time you visited my grave? Or my sister's grave?"
"You're sick," you spat, raising your voice a little louder than intended.
"Mhm. That just means we have a lot more in common than you thought. Anyways, should I knock or just carve my way in-"
Boop, boop.
You cut the call, immediately blocking the number and running to your bedroom, locking the door behind you.
As if it were a shield, you hopped in your bed, tucking the covers over your head and squeezing your eyes shut.
Albeit, you were now well distracted from any thoughts of Heeseung, but unfortunately, something far more daunting than a pasta party gone wrong took its place.
➠ tuesday
9:15am
You had work at the café early the next morning, and didn't get much sleep after that unexpected call. To no surprise, Heeseung never texted you back, but again, that's not really something you were worried about at the time.
Nate was already at the café when you got there, earlier than his usual time, but you took it upon yourself to serve him before Yunjin could step in to play the role of her own cupid.
"Morning, Nate! Don't tell me you already had something before you came here," you teased.
"Hey, and no, not this time heheheh."
That laugh... were you being paranoid?
"I'll have a black coffee... and maybe something sweet if you wanna surprise me," he smiled before noticing that you looked a little off, "Hey, is everything alright? You don't look too good."
You shifted in your stance, trying to stay in character of the happy waitress he knew you to be, "Oh- yeah, I just didn't get much rest last night. Who knew caffeine was so anti-sleep?"
Ding.
The café door bell rang as a trio of elderly ladies walked in... the same ones Yunjin accused of Karenism after you abandoned ship yesterday.
You didn't want her to have to serve them so you turned in Nate's order so you could take their's.
Leeseo wasn't in work today because she had school, so some guy (who's name you could barely remember) took her place, and boy was he a lifesaver in the kitchen.
He had the older ladies and Nate's order made within minutes, handing you the trays in each hand as Yunjin busied herself doing who knows what.
"Here’s your black coffee and a tiramisu square,” you chirped, placing the mug and plate beside his laptop, “I know you’ve tried this one before, but I really think it suits you.”
“Aww, thanks, ____,” he pouted playfully, “How can I ever repay you for such kind deeds?”
Your gaze immediately fell to Nate’s delicate fingers that rested idly near his keyboard.
“Your story. I wanna see it,” you said plainly, tucking the serving tray under your arm and peeking over his shoulder.
“You’re joking,” he said, slightly closing his computer.
“Aww, c’mon! I’ve been dying to read it! If you make me wait any longer I might literally combust!”
“Fine, okay, I’ll show you,” he sighed, playfully rolling his eyes, “but only because I wouldn’t want anyone to clean up your gory remains.”
He moved his coffee out of the way to prevent any accidents, slowly lifting his computer back up for you to see, “Promise you won’t judge me? Like I said, it’s in draft form—”
“I promise, Nate, now stop stalling,” you giggled, squinting your eyes at the tiny words that filled the screen.
You caught sight of the words ghost face, suicide, and revenge almost immediately, your body language clearly exhibiting how you felt on the inside.
“Is it really that bad,” the platinum haired boy asked with furrowed brows, taking in your now disgusted demeanor.
“I… this is unbelievable…”
“Just give it a chance, ____! Trust me, the plot gets better in the next chapter, when the main character finally realizes that the guy behind the mask was the party host all along—”
"What are you, some kind of sick freak?” You interrupted him, careful not to show your anger as you closed his computer shut.
“I… I’m sorry, what?”
“How much do you know?" You went on, slightly raising your voice.
“____, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he almost laughed, trying to shake off how nervous you were making him feel.
“You’re the pervert who called me last night, aren’t you?”
“____, please calm down, you’re scaring me,” he pleaded, standing up from his seat and placing his hands on your shoulders.
Everything in you wanted to push him away, but once the glares from the surrounding costumers and Yunjin entered your field of vision, you simply backed away, swallowing the anger that bubbled within you.
You reached to take off your apron to which Yunjin immediately scolded you, “Nuh uh, you’re not getting away that easily… Get over here, now.”
Letting out a sigh, you looked at Nate with both confusion and shame, walking behind the café counter to where Yunjin was standing.
“What was that all about?” She asked, shaking your shoulder, “Huh? You’re making me look bad in front of my crush, y’know?”
“I got a call last night. A ghost face call,” you whispered, fighting back the tears meddling with your eyes, “It could’ve been a prank, but it seemed so real.”
She took your hand, guiding you into the kitchen where prying eyes and nosey ears couldn’t interfere.
“And you think it was Nate?”
“He’s writing an entire story about it, Jinnie! I can’t be crazy for drawing that conclusion!”
“And you’re not crazy… probably just a little hangry… and sleep deprived,” she smiled, handing you a cookie you didn’t even realize she was holding til now, “Eat it.”
“B-but the chocolate’s all melted.”
“Eat it, ____,” she giggled, shoving the cookie past your lips and into your mouth.
“Ahh, what the heck!”
“Hey, don’t talk with your mouth full,” she grinned, dusting the cookie crumbs on her apron, “now hurry up and finish that… we’ve got a lot more costumers to serve before our shifts ends."
12:16pm
Later that day, you somehow found the balls to apologize to Nate for blowing up on him. You didn’t expect him to be so forgiving, especially considering that you literally accused him of harassing you.
During the brief apology, you explained to him everything you went through in the past, apologizing again for trauma dumping on him. But, like always, he was very understanding, even laughing it off by saying he’s grown used to people having dramatic responses to his art.
“So, you’re V?” He asked, walking beside you as you made your way back to work from your lunch break.
“I’m what?”
“You know, V. Sunghoon’s survivor.”
You usually didn’t like your name being used synonymously with Sunghoon’s, but this time, you didn’t mind as much. Maybe that had something to do with Nate’s undeniable charm.
“Yeah, I-I guess I am,” you half-smiled, walking a bit slower as you weren’t quite ready to leave his side, “Why were you so fascinated by that story, anyway?”
He hummed in thought, looking at the sky before answering, “I’ve got a pretty messed up past, myself, y’know? I hate that certain things turned out the way the did, but it helped to shape me into who I am today.”
“And who’s that, if you don’t mind me asking. Who are you?”
He smiled, licking his teeth at how catty your voice sounded, “I’m an attractive guy with an ugly little kid who’s both obsessed and afraid of death hiding behind it all.”
“Explain that for me.”
“Only if you’re ready,” he said, a silence meddling between you two before you nodded, cueing for him to continue.
“When I was younger, some guys broke into my parents house while my mom and I were solving a puzzle in the kitchen. She hid me in the cabinet, but didn’t have enough time to hide herself before the burglars shot her straight in the chest. That’s just the short version, but part of me hasn’t been the same since then,” he paused, taking in a breath before continuing.
“I know she’d want me to lead a normal life after everything that happened, but I’m still attached to the darkness I saw. It’s a part of me now.”
You were trying not to show it on your face, but you weren’t expecting a guy like Nate to have gone through so much. He handled his pain a lot better than you ever could, and you both envied and admired him for it.
“Sorry, I know that was a lot to take in,” he sighed, sticking his hands in his pocket.
“Nate, I literally just told you that a serial killer held me captive for months while I carried his baby. You’re good,” you chuckled, nudging him on the shoulder.
You two bonded on other things like your experiences with therapy, sharing with him the medication you’d been taking to help with your anxiety.
“I don’t know, ____. I took that same stuff when I was a kid and it fucked me up bad… I’m sure you’ve been having adverse symptoms from it, right?” he frowned, walking up to the café entry with your hand in his.
Ding.
The bell jingled behind you, gracing both your senses with sweet aromas.
“Yeah, actually… I have.”
“So. You can choose to follow doctors orders or take my advice instead. The choice is yours,” he shrugged, letting go of your hand at the sight of Yunjin coming from around the counter.
She wasn’t oblivious to you two holding hands, but it didn’t bother her much anyways.
“Welcome back, strangers. I see you’re both on good terms now? No more witch hunts?”
“No more witch hunts,” Nate confirmed with a smirk, showcasing the faint dimple on one of his cheeks.
➠ wednesday
6:49am
Screech.
The sound of iceskates gliding across a frosty arena filled your ears.
The audience of chilly bodies was silent, eyes gawking in awe at the sight of the skilled dancer practically controlling gravity itself.
It was astounding how skilled this faceless skater was.
You were very much aware that you were currently in a dream, thanks to the mere fact that you’d never actually attend a figure skating show in real life.
Not that you had something against the sport…you just simply couldn’t handle the thoughts that came with it anymore.
Knock, knock, knock.
And in typical dream fashion, you teleported to an entirely different space within seconds, in this case, your apartment kitchen.
Pacing to the front door, you slung it open to reveal a quaint cardboard package lying on the ground.
You picked up the box, walking over to the kitchen counter before placing it down and grabbing a knife to cut through the packaging tape.
Flipping over the cardboard flabs, you were met with the sight of a tiny red sequined dress and a devil horned headband tucked neatly beside it.
Kazuha, you instantly thought to yourself.
“Remember this?” A gentle voice chirped, pulling you from your thoughts.
You whipped your head to see none other than a figment of the late Wonyoung. Even after all your treatment, you could never forget how beautiful she was… even your dream managed to capture the ethereal essence of her beauty.
She held a blue pregnancy test kit in her hand, dressed in the same school uniform she’d always wear, her pink lace socks resting at her dainty ankles.
“Wonyoung?” You asked in shock.
“The one and only. My brother did a good job of making sure you never forgot about me,” she said with a pout, making your own mood fall.
“I could never forget you, Wonnie. No matter how desperately I might’ve tried to.”
She smiled at your words, taking a few steps closer to you, “I haven’t been called that in a while… anyways, the pack said it only came with one test, but it gave me two instead. Trust me when I say you might need this later.”
You nodded in response, putting the test in your kitchen cabinet and closing the box with Kazuha’s costume in it.
“Hey, not so fast!! I wanted to try that on, y’know?
“Kaz!” You nearly yelped, running into her arms and giving her a hug.
“Okay okay, I missed you too, ____, but chill out with the PDA. I have a strict no-homo rule,” she chuckled, kissing you on the cheek anyways.
“Sooo you and Wonyoung get along now?”
“Surprisingly, yes. When you’re dead, I guess grudges just matter less to you. It’s easier to forgive than to hang on to that kind of pain,” she sighed, propping herself on the counter.
“Speaking of the dead,” you began curiously, “how is he? Sunghoon, I mean….”
The light presence in the room suddenly faltered at your mentioning of his name, Kazuha and Wonyoung exchanging troubled looks to each other before meeting your frame with forlorn eyes.
“W-what is it? Did something happen?” You pressed, sensing the dark cloud that slowly engulfed the three of you in the now dull kitchen space.
Wonyoung fidgeted with the beaded bracelet on her wrist before answering you with a shaky breath.
“Sunghoon isn’t here with us.”
Beep, beep, beep.
Awaking from your dream as if struck by lightening, you reached out a hand at the sound of your vibrating phone rumbling against your nightstand, revealing Heeseung’s contact flashing on your screen.
It was now 7 o’clock on the dot.
“Heeseung?” You asked in a groggy voice, rubbing your eyes from how brightly the sun shone from your bedroom window.
“Hi, I’m standing outside your door right now. Are you home? I knocked over ten minutes ago—”
Boop, boop.
You abruptly cut the call, putting on a pair of shorts (since you slept only in your panties), as you ran to answer the door.
Heeseung was standing there in a very nice outfit, but your current emotions weren’t interested in the slightest.
You practically leaped on him, shaking his shoulders with crazy eyes as you spit out words you yourself could hardly keep up with.
“Sunghoon!! H-he’s- He’s still alive, Heeseung! He never died! That… ugh, that means he's still out there! He's wants me dead, Heeseung! That explains everything!!"
“____, slow down. I can hardly understand a word you’re saying,” he chuckled, cupping your face in his hands, “breathe for me, okay?”
“I- I am breathing, Heeseung,” you sighed, anxiety pumping stronger in your veins than oxygen.
“I know,” he smiled, kissing you on the nose, “can I come in so you can tell me everything?”
You let him inside, taking a seat on your living room couch as he helped himself to fixing both of you a cup of coffee as if you were his guest.
“It was a dream, but… it all felt so real.”
“And I get that, but you know you’re not supposed to entertain those sorts of thoughts,” he half frowned, placing the warm mugs on the coffee table before you, “Now be honest with me, did you want to stay in the dream? Did part of you maybe want to think about Sunghoon?”
“Heeseung-“
“You know I have to ask these questions, ____. What kind of answers were you looking for?”
He peered into your eyes as if searching you for the words you were too afraid to say.
That’s when your phone blared with a text from Yunjin.
“Oh, crap!” you pouted, swiping the message on your phone, “I’ve gotta get ready for work in a few minutes…”
Heeseung tried to maintain his cool demeanor, “Well, can we at least finish our coffee first before you abandon me?”
“Of course, Hee,” you smiled, taking a sip of the milky beverage, “what were you doing here so early, anyway?”
He almost appeared to be caught off guard by your question, but you brushed off the suspicion, blaming it on the dream you’d just had.
“Oh- don’t worry about that now. Let’s just enjoy this moment before you go off to serve the fellow coffee-holics in our city.”
Yes, you and Heeseung often behaved as if you were in a seriously committed relationship, but at the end of the day, there was no label between you two.
A few more minutes passed, and your mugs were empty.
“Thanks for stopping by, Heeseung, but I’ve gotta get ready,” you smiled, walking him to your front door.
“You’re welcome, ____. And by the way, I saw your message. I really appreciate you being mature about everything, and I hope that you forgive me for the way I acted,” he said as you slowly closed the door in front of him, beelining to your bathroom to brush away your coffee breath.
2:47pm
Café Royale was closing early for the day as inspections were scheduled during your afternoon shift, so your entire team had the rest of the day off.
You decided to stay back to do some last-minute tidying before you’d leave.
All there was left to do was throw out the table flower water and leave a note for the inspectors.
That’s when you heard a thud against the back wall of the kitchen, high-pitched pleas falling from a familiar voice.
Leeseo.
You dropped the the flower vase, not caring that it shattered on the ground as you made a run toward the door, following the ruckus outside.
On the side of the bakery, you found the two girls from the restaurant pinning Leeseo against the wall while a girl you didn’t quite recognize recorded the ordeal.
Leeseo’s eyes were squeezed shut as the girl brought the camera closer to her face, “Don’t act all shy now, slut. We know how much you like being on camera,” Maeve cackled.
The part of you that would usually freeze in moments like this had died with Wonyoung.
You marched towards the girl recording, snatching the phone from her hand before launching it into the nearby parking lot.
“What the fuck,” she exclaimed before cowardly backing away. You yanked Aiko away from Leeseo, grabbing her face in your hand.
The two other girls were already making a run for it as your grip on Aiko's face tightened, causing her to wince at the feeling.
“Aren’t you like a grown woman or something? Get your hands off me!!” She squealed, possibly forgetting how to use her arms as she fought dumbly trying to escape your hold.
“I hope you didn’t think that shit was funny,” you said, observing her dull blue eyes.
There was nothing behind them, complete emptiness.
Much like Maddison, you thought to yourself.
“You leave Leeseo alone from now on, alright? She’s a hard working girl and doesn’t need punks like you making her life more difficult.”
Aiko's gaze darted between you and Leeseo who stood awkwardly in front of the wall, “An innocent, hard-working girl, huh? Wow... you really are two-faced.”
“I don’t think you answered her question,” Leeseo pitched.
Aiko only laughed in response, blinking a few times before answering, “Like I said, get your fucking hands off me, or there’s gonna be a serious problem,” she taunted, titled her head before you let go, watching as she walked away.
“See you at school, Flash,” she smiled, disappearing behind a corner.
“What’d she just call you?”
“Nothing!” Leeseo responded, a bit louder than planned.
“Don’t lie to me, kiddo. What does that name mean?”
“It means I’m a slut, okay? Just like they said,” she sighed, picking up her apron that the girls had thrown on the ground earlier, “a stupid slut that sends stupid photos to stupid boys who tell stupid girls.”
You couldn’t think of anything else to say to her in the moment, as you’re sure she had heard enough of your advice.
All you did was pull her in for a hug, running a hand through her hair as she fought with the lump growing in her throat.
“You are not a stupid slut, Leeseo. You’re a teenage girl just trying to survive in this world,” you encouraged, breaking from the embrace.
That’s when you noticed Nate from afar, walking closer as you and Leeseo tried to recollect yourself.
“What was that all about?” He asked, giving Leeseo a side hug as she hid her face from him shyly.
“Depends, how much did you see?”
“Well, I saw you get all handsy with that high schooler who was harassing our girl over here,” he huffed, “you okay, Sissy?”
“Yeah, Nate, I’m fine,” she nearly whispered, crossing her arms.
“Look, Nate, I’m not usually that aggressive. I just couldn’t hold back when I saw-"
“____, stop your rambling,” he smiled, bringing a finger to your lip for a moment, “You were fucking amazing. Most girls wouldn’t have reacted the way you did, and I’m sure Leeseo is grateful that you stood up for her.”
You felt you stomach flutter at his words, or maybe it was whatever compelled him to touch your lips.
“Yeah, Nate’s right. You’re like… kind of a badass now.”
“Oh, only kind of,” you chuckled, nudging her waist.
“Yeah, because you let her go.”
Nate nodded in agreement with Leeseo, shrugging his shoulders in a teasing way, “She does have a point there, ____.”
“Well, it’s important to end your battles just as wisely as you pick them,” you said, the three of you walking towards the parking lot.
“Well said, Yoda,” Nate teased, making eye contact with you before speaking, “so, you doing anything after this?”
“Yeah, I’ve gotta clean up some glass I dropped in the shop, but I’ll text you later if I can meet up.”
“Okay,” he smiled, giving you and Leeseo both one last hug before heading back to wherever he came from, “Stay out of trouble, you guys!”
“We’ll try,” Leeseo called out, walking towards the cafe.
“Hey, you’re off for the day. Enjoy your time-off.”
“I will… after I return the favor,” she winked, heading towards the utility unit and grabbing a broom.
10:15pm
Despite having gotten off from work early, you still felt a little worn out from a certain series of events that occurred earlier. So, you decided to calm yourself down with a nice evening bath before bed.
After blow drying your hair, you proceeded with some simple skincare steps before finally ended with moisturizer.
That’s when you got a call from Yunjin. She was never one to call you this late, so you answered the call, hoping that everything was okay on her end.
“Hey, what’s up?” You asked, holding the phone to your ear as you closed your container of face cream.
“Oh my God, someone’s trying to kill me!”
“You’re joking.”
“No, I’m dead serious. Poor choice of words, but I’ve been running for five minutes and I’m about to give up,” she said, voice starting to crack, “…I thought it was funny at first, but now I’m really scared.”
“Oh my God, do you still see them?” You asked again, clutching to your phone.
“No, but I can hear their feet… I’m so fucking scared, ____.”
“I know, Jinnie. Where are you?”
“In the neighborhood-“
“Okay, I’m calling the police-“
“No, ____, don’t hang up!”
“Yunjin, I HAVE to.”
“Please don’t! I already tried but they sent me to the holding line… I just need to hear your voice right now, okay?”
“This is ridiculous! Your life is on the line here, I have to do something!” You cried, heart racing with your feet as you rushed to put on your coat, grabbing your car keys, “I’m gonna call them right now.”
“F-fuck, fuck, fuck,” she stammered, starting to sob, “you really shouldn’t hang up right now, ____.”
“Everything is going to be okay, Yunjin, just keep talking to me, I’m on my way to you!” You panted, running to your car without even making sure your apartment door was locked. “Do you still hear them?”
“Yes, and they’re getting faster! I don’t know what to do,” she said, choking on her own breath.
“Yunjin, sweetie, I need you to calm down. Your nerves are only going to make things worse.”
“What the fuck, ____, I’m gonna die!!”
“Fuck, Yunjin, don’t say that! Look around, is there anywhere you can hide? Any possible weapons?”
“No, I can’t see shit out here!!”
“Wait- I think I see you,” you said, zipping down the street.
“Is that your car? AHHH!”
“Yunjin!?!! What happened?!?!”
“I tripped- ugh, fuck…,” she sobbed, getting up with adrenaline until she caught a glimpse of the cherry colored blood dripping down her leg, making her feel lightheaded.
“Yunjin, are you okay?”
“Eugh- yeah,“ she groaned, “I just can’t feel my fucking legs… hurry!!”
“Shit, I lost you…,” you cursed under your breath until it hit you, “WAVE YOUR PHONE AROUND ON FLASH!”
“I- o-okay, okay!” She stuttered, fumbling with the phone in her hand as she put on the flash and did as you said.
You saw the faint white light radiating from her smartphone about three houses ahead of you.
Slamming your foot on the gas, you nearly flew down the street, a screeching sound echoing from your tires.
Your brakes came to a clean stop as you drifted around the corner, rolling down your car windows.
“Hurry, get in, get in!”
Yunjin only nodded as she ran toward the car, shoulder jerking as the car door resisted in opening.
“What the fuck, ____, unlock the damn door!!”
“Fuck, I did!!” You cried, frantically pressing the unlock button.
Quick thinking kicked in as Yunjin opted for the window, crawling in desperately as the hooded and masked figure sprinted towards your vehicle from behind her.
You reached out your hand to pull Yunjin’s body into the car the rest of the way before zooming off, the crazy killer having gotten just close enough to graze her calf with his blade.
“Hughh,” She exhaled, struggling to get a hold of her breath, “how does he know you?”
Darting through the neighborhood, you tried your best to escape the psycho, even though he didn’t have a chance to catch up with you on foot.
“W- what? What do you mean?”
“The guy in the mask, he said that he was gonna kill me because of YOU, ____! Holy shit, and he was tall as fuck with that freaky ass voice you were telling me about… And there was another girl out tonight! Oh my God, I bet he went after her too!”
“Another girl??” your voice raised slightly, "w-what'd she look like?"
"She's... I've seen her before... that kid... the one from Leeseo's school who comes around the café sometimes."
"Maeve?"
"No, not her... the prettier one."
You didn't wanna think about how Aiko was likely running for her life outside right now, but it was too late to turn around, so you distracted yourself by something else, “…how’s your leg doing?”
“Fine,” she whined, wiping the tears of black mascara that painted her cheeks.
“I don’t feel safe anymore,” she continued, shaking her head as her lower lip quivered, “none of us should…”
“I know, Yunjin.”
“You keep saying that, but I get the feeling there are a lot of things you’re late on clearing up about this, ____. Help me know, too.”
Your chest raised as you took a deep breath, letting out a sigh before answering, “that guy tonight…. I can’t say that I’m sure, but I think it’s Heeseung.”
“Your boyfriend,” she asked confused.
“He’s not my boyfriend, Jinnie.”
“Yeah, and I also doubt he’s a fucking psychopath. Isn’t he a doctor? He helps people for a living, you know?”
“Fuck, Yunjin, he’s the only other person who knows the full story. It just makes sense.”
Silence filled the car for a moment.
“Okay, now THIS is ridiculous. For the love of God, could you think of any other person that would possibly wanna torture us like this,” Yunjin nagged, looking at you as your eyes were still trained on the road.
“It… it could be… I’m just guessing, but… Sunghoon?”
“Huh,” Yunjin scoffed in disbelief, “So your dead boyfriend?”
“Whatever you wanna call it,” you replied sharply, feeling frustrated from life itself.
“Great, so what do we do about him now? How do we beat the final boss?”
Your grip around the steering wheel tightened as both fear and shame rose in your gut. You dreaded the moment you shared your past with Yunjin, and you dreaded the guilt that came with her almost losing her life because of it.
You took a deep breath and focused your eyes on the road, trying to fight back the tears that dared to spill from your terrorized eyes.
“We tell Nate,” you said, making a U-turn as you trailed down the road.
"Right, the computer obsessed nerd who drinks way too much coffee...” she cheered facetiously before continuing, “oh, and do you have an aspirin with you by any chance?"
"No. Here, drink this for now," you said, handing her the water bottle from your car door that you don't even remember purchasing.
She shook her head, taking a long sip from the bottle before resting it between her legs, "All I know is that this costume party better be fucking worth it."

You took Nate up on his previous offer to hang out and decided to invite him to have drinks with you and Yunjin at the local outdoor tea shop. That's where you two decided to tell him everything that happened the other night.
“I just... I don’t know what to do anymore, Nate," you frowned, stirring the tapioca pearls at the bottom of your cup.
“Every problem has a solution, ____. Your goal is to have your normal life back, right?”
“Yes, you know that, Nate. All I've wanted for the past few months is a slice of normalcy.”
He looked at Yunjin, whose facial expression mirrored the frown you wore, trying to come up with something, if anything at all, to grant you this craved slice of the ordinary.
“Fine. I have an idea in mind, but you might think it's a little crazy.”
"Crazier than looking over your shoulder every five seconds in fear of some punk with a knife kink," Yunjin asked in a goofy tone.
"Not quite," he began, taking a sip of his tea before continuing, "I've been meaning to throw this Halloween party at my house for a while. I'll text you all the updates if you're interested, but people will be wearing costumes."
"You're solution is a fashionably belated adult dress-up party?" Yunjin asked, yet stated in disapproval.
"Exactly. It'll be fun and best of all, normal. Obviously there's no pressure for you two to come, it was just an... a dumb idea, I guess-"
"No!" You excitedly interjected in Nate's defense, "That's actually a really great idea, Nate! We're young adults for crying out loud. Silly parties are literally a defining point of our culture."
You're not sure what got into you, but Kazuha would be proud of your willingness to mingle if she was here. Despite your past experiences with costume parties and undeniable intorvertism, you weren't gonna let some masked goon get in the way of your chance at feeling normal again, even if it was only for a few hours.
Yunjin cocked an eyebrow at you in confusion and concern, "I don't know, ____. Being in an environment like that can disturb your recovery. Plus, I'm not sure if that's the safest idea either, considering how that midnight prankster literally cut me."
"We'll be together the entire time," Nate bud in, "I'm a pretty strong guy, y'know? And from what I've seen, ____ here can be pretty badass when it comes to defense."
You tried not to laugh at the memory of Aiko and Leeseo's parking lot showdown yesterday. It flattered you that Nate viewed your protectiveness as a sign of courage, even though you might've gotten a little carried away.
"Uhmmmm, she's blushing... Why is she blushing?! ____, did something happen that I don't know about? Nate, for the love of God, would you please stop smirking!!" Yunjin huffed, dying to know about this obvious inside joke Nate just told.
"I'm not smirking," he lied, chuckling at Yunjin's words as he struggled to look her in the face out of embarrassment.
"We're not hiding anyyyything. Right Nate?" You giggled, flashing him a corny wink.
Yunjin rolled her eyes at you two, taking an annoyed sip from her boba as you guys fought the growing urge to buss out laughing.
That's when you all spotted Leeseo walking home from school with her hair covering her face. You made an effort to call her over, but she obviously ignored you until Nate said something.
"Sissy," He almost whispered with a now forced smile, sensing that something was off by her foggy aura.
She stopped right in her tracks, bashfully lifting her head to reveal her tear-stained cheeks.
The three of you got up from your table, rushing over to comfort her.
"Hey, why the long face, kiddo?" Yunjin asked, taking Leeseo's backpack so the poor girl could finally relax her anxious shoulders.
"S-something happened to Aiko last night," she let out through broken sniffles, "Maeve was telling the whole school about it today."
Oh my God, you thought to yourself.
A worried expression wavered over Nate's features, "W-well... what'd she say?"
"She was talking on the phone with Aiko last night to make sure she got home safely. That's when Aiko said this weird guy kept texting her... Maeve listened to the whole thing..."
"Leeseo, I'm kind of missing the point here," Yunjin pressed, not being able to read through her words clearly.
"Aiko told Maeve that some guy in a costume started chasing her... Another girl was running away with her, but Aiko couldn't tell who she was..."
"Leeseo..."
"Maeve said she heard Aiko stop running, followed by painful screaming and coughing... we don't know for sure but... people are saying that its a ghost face copycat-"
Nate stopped her mid-sentence, wrapping his arms around her as she weeped into his chest.
"I know it's silly that I'm crying because she was such a bitch to me," her voice cracked, tears leaving darkened grey spots on Nate's turtleneck.
"You're not silly for having a heart, Leeseo," you said softly, holding your own hands from how cold your surroundings suddenly became.
"They found her body, ____," she sobbed, hardly being able to contain her breathing, "that freak killed her."
Nothing else was said as there was nothing left to say. You all stood around Nate and Lesseo in a circle, meddling on the increasingly horrifying status of your realities.
Turns out that the new masked goon on the street wasn't some lame copy cat, but unfortunately, someone much more sinister.
➠ friday
11:54am
During your lunch break, you decided to tell Heeseung about Nate's costume party tonight. Not because you wanted him to join you or anything... mostly because you thought it'd be the right thing to let him know. Though, if you knew he would've reacted in the way he did, you simply would've avoided telling him altogether.
"Why would you go to a party like that, ____?" He scolded, shaking his head at you, "People in masks, carrying fake knives and what not. You're not ready, ____! A kid was literally just stabbed to death in our neighborhood!"
"I am ready, Heeseung! Hell, I don't even remember what Sunghoon looks like at this poin. He's officially a part of my past now, and I thank you for everything you've done to help me heal since that, but please, don't ruin this for me."
"Ruin your mood before a bogus late Halloween party?" He scoffed, leaning against the wall in the cafeteria.
You decided to break the news to him after surprising him at work with some lunch you made for him that morning. You understood exactly where he was coming from: Heeseung only wanted the best for you ever since day one, but you still wish he wouldn't have been so harsh about something as simple as a costume party.
"Please don't get mad at me for asking, but have you stopped taking your meds?"
Your heart dropped at his words. Was there an obvious difference in your behavior that would make him know that?
Now it was your turn to feel guilty, "I'm sorry for not telling you, Heeseung. I haven't taken any over the last few days, but I promise you, I've never been happier!"
"____, you think I don't know about that little stunt at your job? Your emotions are out of control!"
"I only stopped taking the meds because Nate suggested I give them a break. If me not feeding into fear is what losing control of me emotions looks like, then so be it," you fought back.
"God, listen to yourself, ____. Valuing the advice of this Nate guy over me, a professional healthcare provider? Where's your trust in me?" He frowned, voice falling to a whisper.
Beep, beep, beep, the cafeteria microwave chimed through the tension of the room. Heeseung had put the lunch you made him in there a few minutes ago, and you're sure it was pretty over-warmed by now.
"I'm trusting in myself from now on," you replied, adjusting your purse over your shoulder and turning to walk away from him, "Enjoy your food, Heeseung."
9:03pm
Once again, it was a Friday night and the mood was right, as you liked to say.
The decorations, the vibes and snack table—it was all reminiscent of Sunghoon's party last summer, but minus the fear that came with it.
Better.
You couldn't help but think about Kazuha in the atmosphere.
Parties were always her scene, and now that you think about it, Yunjin had a spirit very similar to Kaz, and Nate… well, he was a lot like the person Sunghoon had fooled you into thinking he was.
Kind, gentle, healing.
You and Yunjin were dressed to impress in your flirty cat costumes, Nate opting for a more relaxed apparel in a graphic sweatshirt, silver chains, and ripped jeans.
"It's my emo persona," he clarified for the both of you who were still confused as to why he didn't dress up at his own party.
"Cool, so does this emo version of you go by a different name orrr-"
"You died your hair black," you interrupted, staring in shock.
Nate's smile froze before twisting into something more mischievous, "Yeah, I did. Too bad our friend Yunjin here didn't notice... have you been drinking?" He teased, poking her on the forehead.
"Hands off, Lil Huddy, and no, I'm still waiting for the host to show me where the bar is."
"As you wish," he smiled, taking you and Yunjin's hand in his, slipping past the crowd and beelining toward his indoor bar.
One Of The Girls pulsed from the radio speakers, thrumming through the party air as surrounding bodies either swayed or made conversation to the rhythms. The mysterious aura of the song lingered in your limbs as you struggled to wrap your head around what bothered you about Nate's costume tonight.
You didn't wanna say it was the hair, because this new, dark look made him undeniably more attractive. Still, there was something different about his eyes. Something that made you feel uneasy.
So you brushed it off.
"What's your poison," Nate asked with a cheesy grin, placing three chilled shot glasses and a drink mixer on the counter.
“Hmm,” You began, tapping at your chin, “how about something creamy with a dairy base? In honor of our feline outfits.”
“Got it,” he huffed, rolling up his sleeves and examining the array of shelved alcohols behind him. He went for a bottle of banana liquor and crème de cacao. Pouring the amber liquids into the mixers along with some whole milk and ice, he gave it a theatrical shake before pouring it into your shot glasses. “Voila, my ladies! Tell me what you think,” Nate hummed, looking into your eyes as he licked the bead of milk from the rim of the cup.
Yunjin took a sip first and then you, surprisingly pleasant flavors of warm chocolate greeting your taste buds. “Woah, this is actually really good! The banana doesn’t taste synthetic, either!” Yunjin chirped, going back for another sip.
“That’s because I only buy the finest quality products for my guests,” Nate said, eyes turning back to you as he leaned over the counter, wiping the sweet foam from your lips with his thumb.
“Jeez, I’m still right here, y’know?” Yunjin cringed, making you and Nate both feel a little shy.
“What’s this drink called anyway? I wanna make it at home sometime,” Yunjin continued.
“It’s called a Banshee. You can look up the recipe online.”
“Oooh, sounds dangerous.”
“It’s not. Most Banshee’s only warn of pending deaths, while others relish in the pain of people who’ve harmed them in some way.”
“Interesting, but what does that have to do with bananas and chocolate,” you asked.
“The short answer is nothing at all,” Nate said, walking around the counter to sit in between you and Yunjin, “it’s just a silly name, I guess.”
After you three finished up your drinks, you headed back to the dance floor where you made absolute fools of yourselves. Yunjin, who got the dropsies early on, called in an Uber to drive her back home.
“Yunjin, I’m not letting you go home alone while drunk,” you retorted, walking her to the car, “Besides, I’m sure your driver won’t mind looking at two pussies for the night.”
“Yeah,” she giggled, leaning her head into your shoulder, “but maybe some other time when I'm a little more in touch,” she smiled, drawing your attention to the tinted windows of the vehicle. You could barely make out what the driver looked like.
“Anyways, you and Nate deserve this night together. I’ll be fine, I promised,” she said with slurred words as you watched her enter the vehicle.
“Okay, Jinnie. I’ll see you tomorrow then,” you waved as the car pulled off.
“Tomorrow!” She cheered back before rolling up the window.
10:16pm
The party continued as normal, you and Nate sticking by each others side for the entire time. As expected, a few ghostface cosplayers welcomed themselves to the party space, but you weren’t gonna let them worry you.
Buzz. Buzz.
Your phone vibrated in your purple handbag. Pulling out your phone, the bright screen revealed an incoming call from an unknown number.
What a wonderful surprise, you thought to yourself.
You went to press the hangup button, but Nate stopped your hand, meeting your eyes with his encouraging ones.
“Go on… answer it,” he almost whispered, securing your waist with his protective hand.
You’re not sure what compelled you to listen to him, but you felt strong enough to answer the call just as casually as it came.
“Who is this,” you asked dumbly, your gut having told you exactly who it was before answering.
“Does my voice ring any bells?”
Gut wrong. It was Heeseung. You had forgotten all about how you blocked him a few hours after your argument to make sure he didn't get in the way of your party plans. That explains why he called from a burner number.
“What do you want, Hee,” you said with a sigh, now walking away from Nate’s hold.
“Oh, so first, you risk your health by going against my advice, and now I’m not allowed to check on you, either?”
“I’m fine, Hee,” you answered, only for another ring tone to fill your ear.
You glanced at the phone screen: another unknown number was intersecting the call.
“Gimme a second,” you paused, accepting the incoming call and putting Heeseung’s line on hold.
“You're enjoying this, aren't you?”
Nevermind. Gut actually right, just slightly delayed. It was the ghostface creep calling to ruin your fun.
“Enjoying what, exactly?" You pressed, already feeling yourself get a little nervous.
"Enjoying this taste of normalcy, of course. You're not trying to forget about me, are you princess?" The gravelly voice slithered, sending chills down your spine.
It was obvious that this psycho wanted you to think they were some kind of Sunghoon Park reincarnate, coming back to haunt you all over again. The part that you didn't understand, however, was how they knew so much and why they were willing to kill for the sake of a prank.
"Look, I don't have time for your games right now, stay out of my life," You bit back, trying to hide just how scared you truly were.
"Oh, ____, we both know that I can't do that. But I'll promise you this much: No more games tonight. Deal?"
You took a moment to breath before answering, "D-deal."
"Perfect. Now if you're a smart girl who learns from her mistakes, you won't hang up until I say so," the voice hissed.
The sound of what you assumed was a vinyl record scratching against a pin met your anxious ear, an upbeat piano tune rumbling from the track.
"Unusual. They say strange fascination, in...fatuation! A lunatic."
"What is this," you couldn't help but ask, even though you knew there wouldn't be an answer.
"Cause my insides are red, and yours are too! And the red on my face is matching you," the chilling recording sang, "And goodness you're bleeding. What a wonderful feeling. You're down and you're pleading. My head is just reeling-"
You subconsciously walked back closer to Nate as the chorus erupted, bumping into him as you were lost in whatever trance this freak was successfully putting on you.
The urge to hang up grew stronger with each second, but you knew better than to test your luck so soon.
"ꪻꫝꫀ ᥅ꫀᦔ ꪑꫀꪖꪀᦓ ꠸ ꪶꪮꪜꫀ ꪗꪮꪊ " The final lyric whined before the phone call ended abruptly.
Heeseung's line appeared to have cut a few minutes ago, too.
No... he hung up on you.
You called Heeseung back who immediately answered, “Where are you?” You started, not even trying to hide your sense of urgency.
"Why, your new boyfriend abandoned you already?"
"Cut the crap, Heeseung, where are you??” Your voice cracked this time.
"God, I’m at home, ____, why--"
Nate snatched your phone, cutting the call as he turned you to face him, "What the hell was that all about?"
“That ghost face creep wanted me to stay on the phone while he serenading me...”
"You're kidding."
"I wish. Too bad I got scared into listening."
"It's okay. I'm sure you did the right thing. Now where are we headed."
"Wherever Heeseung is. I'm skeptical that he may be behind all of this, but if he's not, that phone call I got was just a distraction. He could be in trouble." You said, taking Nate's hand in yours as you led him outside of the party and to his car.
"Okay. Is there any way you can track his location?"
"Yeah, as long as he has his phone with him," you said, getting in the car and putting on your seatbelt.
Nate passed you your phone so you could pull up Heeseung's whereabouts. From the looks of it, he was driving somewhere, and definitely not home like he said he was.
"What's he doing in the middle of nowhere?" Nate asked, narrowing his eyes at the phone screen.
"I have know idea, but we have to follow him," you said, holding up your phone for Nate to follow the directions.
10:20pm
Yunjin sat quietly in the backseat, observing the night skyline behind the foggy car windows in between her recurrent dozing.
A certain bump in the road caused the car to shake, disrupting Yunjin's slumber once again. That's when she overheard the Uber driver on the phone with someone.
"Hey... not sure if I'm hallucinating or not, but were you just on the phone with my friend?” She asked, having heard a familiar voice on the other end of the call.
The driver didn't pay Yunjin any mind as he continued speaking on the phone, the female voice repeating the name "Heeseung" a few times before hanging up.
"Oh my gosh!" She gasped in shock, taking in the view of the drivers face from the rearview mirror, "You’re Heeseung? Wow, you’re like... wayyyyy hotter than I thought you’d be. Respectfully, of course, since you and ____ have history. She is literally so lucky to have you around.”
“She sure is," he said with a forced smiled, but it didn't quite reach his dark, doe eyes.
His grip on the steering wheel tightened as he turned down yet another rocky trail.
“Hey, I think you made a wrong turn, my street is that way…” Yunjin mumbled, not wanted to come off as bossy.
“Oh- Yeah, I'm taking a short cut to avoid traffic, don't worry about it.”
She simply nodded in response, dozing off for another 10 minutes before waking back up again. Yunjin was never really a lightweight when it came to drinking. If anything, it sometimes seemed as though she was immune to its effects.
"What the hell was in that Banshee," she thought to herself, rubbing the heaviness from her glittery eyes before looking back out the window again, taking in the view of trees and wildlife that made up her surroundings.
“Hey, we’ve been on this road for a while now, are you sure you're on the right path?”
Heeseung pursed his lips at her question, taking a breath and holding it in his chest for a moment, “I can't take you home tonight," he said, eyes still trained on the road ahead of him as he locked the doors.
"Haha, very funny, but suddenly, I gotta piss. So unless you wanna smell my golden release in your car for the next month, I suggest you take another detour, Dr. Lee," She threatened, unbuckling her seatbelt to ease the pressure around her stomach.
"I'm afraid I don't have much time to tell you this, but someone from ____'s past is out to hurt the both of you. You need to understand that Nate is not who he says he is," Heeseung frowned, letting go of the breath he'd been holding.
“Yeah, no kidding, but that still doesn't explain where the fuck you're taking me,” Yunjin retorted, fidgeting with the car door handle as a way to annoy him.
“Would you please stop doing that? I'm already on edge right now, and you would be too if you actually listened to what I'm saying," Heeseung sighed, raising his voice slightly.
"I am listening."
"Great, so hear this. I'm taking you somewhere safe from whatever's to come tonight.. otherwise, you could be in even more trouble.”
Yunjin let his words sink in before answering, "Okay, I hope that I'm making the right decision by trusting you, but what about ____?"
"I'll take care of her after this, just focus on yourself right now," he replied, pulling the vehicle into the driveway of a mysterious log cabin cradled within the depths of the forest.
"Get out," Heeseung said, exiting the vehicle with haste as Yunjin followed after him, walking up to the front door where a key was hidden beneath the doormat.
"Just follow me, he'll find you too easily up here," he went on, grabbing her hand and leading her to the downstairs basement.
With how fast Heeseung was moving, Yunjin barely had enough time to make out her surroundings, her peripheral vision being filled with colors instead of identifiable objects... Or maybe that was the affect of Nate's Banshee still lingering in her system.
The last thing she'd remember was Heeseung bringing her into the basement before closing the door, approaching her with a wooden chair in his grasp as everything around her went black.
10:52pm
According to your phone's GPS, you were still a few minutes shy from arriving at Heeseung's location. Though, the undeniable familiarity of your surroundings brought up a feeling of anxiety in the pit of your stomach.
The way the moonlight peeked through the trees, casting an ominous glow on the hood of Nate's car was all too reminiscent of a few scenes from your nightmares.
Scenes where Sunghoon would drive you to and from the clinic as if it were a daycare center for punished girls, watching from the hospital cafeteria window as bright mornings slowly faded into a starry nights.
Much like tonight, that is.
The bright car headlights of the vehicle glazed the surface of a rectangular sign hanging above the front door of the shady cabin. hidden within the first as Nate pulled into the driveway. A sign that read the words "Park Lodge."
Another sight that caught your attention was the same Uber car that Yunjin got into and the front door that was left open.
Oh God, help me please, you thought to yourself, or maybe prayed, fidgeting with your fingers as Nate stopped the car, ceasing the calming sound of the air conditioner.
"Are you sure you wanna go in, or would you rather stay out here," Nate asked softly, looking in your direction as you simply stared in your lap.
Still dressed in your slutty cat costume, you couldn't help but feel silly, almost as though you'd gotten dressed up to make a fool out of yourself tonight.
So many thoughts and questions were running through your head: Was Yunjin okay? Why the hell would Heeseung come here? Does he have something to do with this recent outbreak of ghost face hysteria? Who could you trust?
Slam.
You closed the car door, leaving your hand bag behind, walking up to the cabin with Nate beside you.
Despite everything you'd been through, this was easily one of the most frightening experiences of them all, but you couldnt let fear get the best of you.
Not yet.
Not now.
"What is this place," he asked, taking in the interior design of this forbidden cabin you knew all too well.
"My former torture chamber," you sighed, opening door after door in search of anything at all, "The place where Sunghoon would..." your voice trailed off, "the place where it all happened."
Nate only hummed at your words, eyes scanning your movements as you continued to search the space like a maniac, but to no avail.
That's when you saw a trail of dirt leading to the basement.
Two trails, that is. One from a man and the other from a female.
"In here!" You called out to Nate who ran towards you, twisting the door handle that refused to grant you access.
"Step back," he said, and you did, watching as he gave the door a few kicks before it slung open, the handle clashing with the wall behind it.
"Watch your step," he warned, taking in the extravagant view of steps that lead to whatever was hiding within the darkness of the basement aside from the many demons Sunghoon left behind.
Step by step, you watched as your feet met each level, Nate's shoes clicking behind yours. Once your boots finally met solid ground, you weren't too surprised to see Heeseung pacing around the room casually.
You didn't even realize Nate was holding your hand until he let go of it, leaving your side for reasons you didn't immediately understand.
“What’re you doing here!?” You nearly shouted, a disgusted look wavering over your face at Heeseung's relaxed demeanor.
But to your surprise, he didn't answer, only watching as Nate made his way to the closet, looking to Heeseung before asking, "Is she in here?"
Heeseung nodded, and with that, Nate took it upon himself to open the closet door, revealing none other than Yunjin's unconscious body sitting, no, tied to a chair with rope, a rectangle of duck tape covering her mouth.
You’re not sure why you just stood there and watched, but you did. Something about seeing yet another person end up in a bad situation simply because they were your friend made you freeze.
Nate’s previously nervous expression was taken over by a much more malicious one, his hand going to grab a handful of Yunjin's hair before giving her head a shake, “Is anybody home,” he snickered, but she remained asleep, only groaning at his actions.
“Don’t touch her like that!” You finally yelped, causing Yunjin to regain her consciousness from the loudness of your voice.
Nate removed the tape from her mouth.
“_-____?” She stuttered over your name through half lidded eyes, looking back at you.
Slice.
Blood trickled down Nate’s arm as he dug the rim of his knife further into the flesh of Yunjin’s throat, her eyes rolling into the back of her head as her arms tensed up from the pain.
“Shit, looks like I missed the rope,” Nate pouted facetiously, letting her head hang forward as he licked the bead of blood that trailed down his knife, “I've always had bad aim.” “Why the hell did you do that!!” Heeseung yelled, running up to Nate and pushing him away from Yunjin, “We agreed that we weren’t gonna kill her, that’s why I told you to spike her drink in the first place!”
“But gosh, you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to do that,” Nate defended, to which Heeseung scoffed annoyedly.
“Yunjin didn’t hurt your sister! And she wasn’t like that other girl you killed that night. Our other targets deserved to die. Not her,” Heeseung said with a heavy voice, almost as if wanting to cry, but you knew he wouldn’t.
Closing the closet door, a look of disappointment wavered over his features, “You're loosing grip of your purpose, Sunghoon.”
You felt as though your world stopped spinning at the realization of everything that was going on.
So you weren't just going crazy this entire time?
“N-…. N-no, it can’t be,” you stuttered, feeling as though your legs would give out. “Don’t touch me!” You barked as Heeseung tried to catch you from falling, which you did anyway, right to your knees.
“This whole time… S-Sunghoon, I...I thought... y-you're supposed to be dead,” your voice cracked, another tear joining the cloudy stream that already stained your face.
“With that logic, I guess I'm supposed to be a lot of things... Sane, kind, honest. By now though, you should know that I've always danced to the beat of my own drum," Sunghoon smirked, playing with the bloody knife in his hand, "What did you think of that song, by the way? Pretty good, right?"
“You fucking monster! Y-you… you killed two innocent people!”
"Oh, big woop! It's not like they were going to turn out to be anything anyways," Nate scoffed, twirling the weapon once again, "I'm sure you probably have a lot of questions you'd like to ask, so I recommend you start talking before my patience runs out."
"Heeseung... I... I don't understand your role in all of this..."
"There are no excuses for my actions, ____, but I owed it to Sunghoon. We both found each other during some dark times in our lives. He promised to help me get some pretty bad people off my back if in exchange, I helped him kill off that Jun-Hwan guy... I just got in too deep to turn back.”
"But why? Why go on for so long? Why not just kill me off and relish in your fleeting sense of justice?" You cried, not being able to control the tears spilling from your eyes.
Your entire life for the past 6 months had been nothing more than a big fat lie.
“God, didn't I already explain this part to you everyday when I had you down here all those days? I did it for my sister, ____,” Sunghoon hissed.
"So you tortured me everyday for months while I carried your child for some lame attempt at redemption?"
"Exactly. See? I knew you were smart."
“No... maybe in the beginning your intentions were noble, but now you’re just acting on your own sick impulses! You like hurting people!”
"Okay, I thought I told you to ask questions, not lecture me."
“Your entire plan was to make my life a living hell! All that shit you said about loving me was a part of this grand psychological game you’re playing!”
“Bingo! You’re on fire, princess,” he winked, unfazed by your emotional outburst, "Now, in a few seconds, I'm going to slit your eyelids in half so you can watch as I stab you multiple times in the face. Any last words?"
You couldn't even be mad at yourself for falling for his tricks... People always said that psychopaths had a way of making some of the most convincing actors.
"Fuck you," you spat, lips trembling like an earthquake before him.
"Cute. If you so happen to wake up in heaven, tell Wonyoung I said-"
Bang.
A silver bullet lodged through the center of Sunghoon's chest, the loud sound making your ears pop.
Bang.
Another bullet joined the first one in his chest, the silver blade finally falling from his cold grasp and clashing with the wooden floor.
Bang.
This shot went off with a ring, gushing through his forehead as his now lifeless body met you on the floor, splashes of red decorated your skin. It was interesting how his beautiful face stayed in contact after the collision.
Your jaw went slack at the sight, a mixture of terror and surprise running through every cell in your body.
You turned to see the source of the gunfire, finding none other than Leeseo standing with the smokey weapon still pointed at Sunghoon's head, her index finger slowly easing into the trigger again.
"That's enough!!" You yelled, haulting what would've made her fourth shot at him.
Putting the gun on safety, she tucked it into her brown leather jacket, grabbing you by the hands as she lifted you up from the ground, greeting you with her embrace.
"What the hell are you doing here, kiddo," you sniffled in her shoulder, feeling as though your body was on the verge of breaking.
"I suspected Nate had something to do with Aiko's death, so I started following him and noticed that he kept coming back here for some reason," she whispered, breaking from the hug.
"Leeseo-"
"I'm so glad that I brought my dad's pistol with me tonight. I heard that there was a party going on and I had a feeling what kind of monster I was dealing with early on. It sucks to say that my instincts were right-"
"Leeseo-"
"I saw him kill Yunjin from upstairs. I froze at the sight in the same way you did-"
"Leeseo, listen."
"What?" She said, taking your hands in hers.
“Nate wasn't real… his real name is Sunghoon Park.”
She screwed her eyebrows at your words, "Wait- Like the original guy from the ghost face incidents this summer?"
"Yes," you replied plainly.
"But... the news said he died... h-he... no, V hit him with a car outside of the hospital! He was in a coma-"
"Look, there's a lot more to the story that I have yet to tell you because I'm still trying to understand some of it myself... I'm just glad you were brave enough to stand up for us like that."
All she did was smile. Even in the face of danger, she always had a way of bringing sunshine to the room. "Are you sure I shouldn't shoot him one more time though?"
"He's dead, Sissy. For good this time, okay?" You reassured her as the sound of police sirens rumbled from above the basement.
Could this girl get any smarter?
"Hey... Where'd Dr. Lee go," she asked, taking one more good look around the basement.
"Don't worry about Heeseung. He wasn't on our side, either," you sighed as a team of police officers came rushing down the stairs, infiltrating the space.
➠ a little over one week later, monday
You still think about what would’ve happened if you wouldn't have dragged Yunjin into going to Sunghoon's party with you that night. If you didn’t trust "Nate" over your own gut feelings, falling for his charm in the same way you did when you first met him. If you never continued therapy or even a relationship with Heeseung. If you never betrayed Wonyoung for your friends to the point that she was bullied to death.
Would you, Kaz, and Madds still be friends, attending the same university together as you took on the exciting new adventure of adulthood? Would Sunghoon and Jun-Hwan be professional athletes in the Olympics, Wonyoung cheering them both on from the sidelines?
So many questions, but you're afraid there are only limited answers to them at this given moment in time.
Right now, you were rewarded the chance to lead your life the way you wanted, fear-free. “Hey, ____! Are you still down to hang out after work? I wanna show you the poster I was working on for Café Royale's holiday menu!” Leeseo chirped as she untied the bow to her apron, tucking it away in her sack. “Yeah, I’ll be out in a sec!” You called out to her, heading to lock up the kitchen before you left.
The owner of Café Royale had flew in town a few days ago, as she was also in search for normalcy some place outside of town. She felt the need to come down and check on things, bidding her condolences. "You might wanna keep a good eye on these," she said, placing the store front keys in your hand as she made her way outside, you following closely behind after hanging your apron over the wall hook. "I really can't thank you enough for this, ma'am," you expressed, watching as she got into her fancy purple car.
"Start by not letting me down. I understand that this is a big responsibility I'm leaving you with, but I know you can handle it. You're a trooper, ____," she smiled, closing her car door before pulling off, joining the rest of the busy vehicles rolling up and down the road. Leeseo was already at your side by now, hooking your arm in hers as she lead you in the direction of her "In Progress Creative Project."
"What'd the boss lady wanna tell you," she started, legs following the exact same step speed at which you walked.
You took a moment to soak up the evening sun, relishing in this feeling of normalcy you oh-so craved for far too long.
Here goes that word again, you thought to yourself, meeting Leeseo's eyes with your own enlightened ones.
"Let's just say I'll be sticking around this town for a lot longer than planned."
Fin.

FEW FUN BEHIND-THE-SCENES STUFF I DID FOR “THE UNSPOKEN” WEBCOMIC SERIES (still ongoing, of course)
So I’m migrating some of the (public version of) pre-production stuff I did in 2021-2023 for THE UNSPOKEN webcomic (back when it still had the old name “Trunks and Goten in High School AU”) here, since X/Twitter apparently annihilated the old Moment feature for real. These are mostly research stuff, some warm up doodles and inspiring sountrack playlists I did before a chapter or a story got made. I usually do a lot of research offline before working on any creative project, that’s why sometimes it feels like there’s so many information gets jammed into one chapter: it was mostly to make do for all the time that I didn’t get to, or wouldn’t be able to work on the comics.
Will add in the chapters along side the information paper for clearer understanding ✌️
———————————————
1. The warm-up expression practice sheet (or doodles, in my case) of Son Goten and Trunks in my webcomic series (late 2022 or early 2023):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the idea in mind for these two in the webcomic was to be more “mature, human-like” than the original manga version to fit with the narrative I want to tell and aim at the older demographic, practices are needed :p
2. The Martial Arts techniques research information papers - Chapter 2 and 3 aka “The Spar” 1 & “The Spar” 2 (2021-2022):
A. Goten’s techniques:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
B. Trunks’s techniques:
Tumblr media
This research about martial arts techniques was actually very fun to do due to martial arts and cultural aspects are being two of the things I enjoy the most in life. That’s probably parts of the reasons why I went back to Dragon Ball in 2020: motorbikes, martial arts and mixed races culture.
Back then I did plan on sharing my research to everyone in the form of little fun art lessons, so there were interesting tweets like this or this. Later I decided to share this somewhere else more private (like my Patreon community) since I realized pre-production researches (or something akin to visual developments) are not that well-liked for most online viewers even though it’s a very much needed process in a creative project 🤔
This martial art concept is one of the actual main themes throughout the whole webcomic series, not really the (super duper gay) b-romance relationship between Son Goten and Trunks, yes I’m very sorryyyyyyy I like them too but I like worldbuilding more lmaoooo :p
3. The brief character design sheet and Chinese-influenced culture research information papers - Chapter 4: “The Iron Woman” and Chapter 5: “Her Resolution, His Origin” (mid-2022 until now and will be continued):
A. Character Design brief sheet:
Tumblr media
B. Culture research stuff:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hilarious thing about researching for these chapters are: Back when “The Iron Woman” was being made, the research limited at reading articles and some books about Chinese cultures, and watching documentaries on Youtube. But when “Her Resolution, His Origin” was being made, the research tuned into a real life trip to China, to take real life reference photos and listening to real legends and stories.
This research for “Her Resolution, His Origin” will be posted to Patreon later, of course ✌️
4. The Original Comic introduction and comeback announcements in mid-2022:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I must have eaten some edibles while drawing this because the boys look so good here. Goten looks so good, I even made him the profile picture for my Patreon account lmao.
5. Soundtrack playlists for inspirations (2021 - now): always the cherry on top. I listen to these playlists everytime I work on the series.
A. Duo playlist for chapters featuring both main characters: link
B. Character playlist for chapters focusing on single character, or anything related to that character: link
———————————————
All in all, posts like this are for people who like to see what’s beneath the surface when working on a creative project. I completely guarantee you, what you’ve seen on this blog are just the tips of the ice berg
Def not a PR, but my Patreon has lots of this lmao. Half joking half serious, there’s even a “non-posted” comic up there too and many other things. I’m just stating facts.
That aside, I’m just really happy to be able to work on this webcomic. THE UNSPOKEN webcomic series has always been a long-term indie project, not a daily content so I hope the readers who like and follow this series would stay tuned for more ✌️
———————————————
For easier reading, you can either follow the links that are included above, or just read this Tapas updated version.

Hi, big fan of your work! i'm in film school now and I'm interested in going into animation. Billy & Mandy is one of the inspirations for a project I'm working on and I have a question about character design.
When designing characters for a project, what should i look out for to make their designs "coherent" (not sure if that's the right word) with each other? I mean, making them distinct but still looking like part of the same show. Specially in a non-realistic style like B&M, PPG, etc.
The right answer is probably just "practice". Keep drawing different versions of the same character until you find one you like, then fill out the cast.
I usually redraw a character tens or hundreds of times before I'm satisfied with my choice. And then they'll tend to evolve even more as you draw them hundreds more times. They'll probably never be "perfect".
For Billy & Mandy, I decided that Grim was taller than a normal adult. Kids were about 1 and 1/2 heads high. My plan was to make them almost "icons" instead of characters. Just two or three simple shapes apiece. Billy is basically two eggs on a trapezoid, and Mandy is an oval (and a negative oval) on a trapezoid.
Billy was the first one I locked down. After that, I'd lay a piece of paper over top on my light desk (analog Photoshop layers!) and use Billy as a height and size reference. That way Mandy isn't drifting taller or shorter while I'm messing around.
You could also PPG it and draw one character, then accessorize them differently. It might be a fun starting point, anyway.
Basically, anything you draw will probably look like it's drawn by you. For the most part, I think it'll happen organically.
Best of luck!

The Smiling Critters Headcanons - Pt. 2
Hey, y'all! More headcanons! And also the fact I'm making up an AU involving them, specifically the toon ones! And maybe after this batch of headcanons, I will post the separate headcanons. And a certain purple kitty is first on the list.
Sorry, y’all! No ships today, but I do plan some ship headcanons.
The Smiling Critters are the same age.
All eight of the critters are childhood friends. DogDay was the one who brought them all together when they were 10.
They all met at the same elementary school and continued on to middle school. The group sort of split up when they graduated from 8th Grade and they went to separate high schools (I plan to draw how they look as kids).
The Smiling Critters had a smaller version of their pendents when they were young and it was all done as a symbol of their friendship, as well as a representation of themselves. They got the bigger ones when they got older.
When the Smiling Critters are in their older teen/young adult (18-19 year old) age, they left their old homes and went into a mysterious land. The reasons why is still being made, but I plan to write why they left when I do separate headcanons for the critters. Some of them are sad/angsty. And as I explain their backstories in their separate headcanons, I might explain the land too.
The critters pretty much had a reunion the moment they stepped foot onto this mysterious land.
This land had eight houses, but no one was living in them. The Critters pretty much went door to door and into the houses to see which one fits them better. And at that point, the Critters had houses of their own and the land became their own little secret neighborhood in the middle of nowhere.
The Critters lived in the land for two years and some of them write or call to their family and friends back at their old homes.
This is where the first episode of the Smiling Critters cartoon began to slowly take place.
The Smiling Critters are unaware they are cartoon characters and are watched by millions of eyes.
Since they are cartoon characters, they often follow cartoon logic. Like being able to survive Bubba’s explosive chemical experiments and Hoppy jumping from star to star to get to the moon. Also, the fact that DogDay and CatNap can sit on the sun and moon.
The land where the Smiling Critters live in is a place where they were allowed to be themselves and not feel pressured or hurt by anyone else. They were allowed to have fun and pretty much be goobers. They were all happier there and pretty much, got to “S-M-I-L-E everyday!”
Unknown to the Critters, the land has given all eight of the critters some strange abilities. Being able to breathe their respective scent is one. CatNap is one of the rare ones as he breathes two scents.
The Smiling Critters are almost the same height, but they are around the same size (maybe slightly taller) as some of the rubberhose toons like Bendy, who I headcanon is around the same size as a certain famous toon mouse.
The Main 8 critters are the only Smiling Critters known in their little “town.” At least, that’s what they think (possible Smiling Critter OC?).

Part 2 of Scott Pilgrim Swap AU
Seven Evil Exes and Their Relationship with Ramona
continuation of this: scott pilgrim swap au but i can't draw
considering the fact Ramona made a comment that Matthew only became evil when he got into high school, meaning that Ramona still kept in touch with Matthew or Matthew was there in the same School with Lucas and Todd. So in this AU, Matthew and Ramona are still friends and basically are supposed to be Kim and Scott roles. Matthew becomes depressed but hides it well by making it seem like he's just being emo and overdramatic, cause you know, theatre kid
Lucas like I said before, was probably just going on with the other exes' evil plan thing and without the revenge thing, he basically got better for himself, making a name as an actor and getting strong. so in this AU, Lucas is basically Ramona's Wallace, kinda, he gives genuine advice coming from someone who worked to improve and get better for himself, But the moment he meets Scott, he vents and talks about how heartbroken and how hard it was when Ramona cheated on him
Envy had enough of Todd being a like a man-child and also being a douchebag, so She kicked him out. Todd in this AU is kinda like stephen but without the anxiety, he works to improve and explore himself, but that only starts to happen after Ramona remeets Gideon, because Todd really gets a reality check and also breaks down when Gideon belittles him
Roxy tries to do everything she can just so she can meet Ramona, like coincidentally having an art show in Toronto or passing by town, to me, Roxy is Ramona's version of envy Because after meeting with Scott and after a few weeks or so, Roxy snaps and tries to kill Scott
Since the Twins don't have much character, I'm just going to use @ken-katayanagi Headcanons, thank you for feeding the Katayanagi Twins fans for so long. Ken and Kyle have an estranged relationship because everyone assumes that since they're twins they basically are the same person, so they try to be as individual as possible but in doing so cause their relationship to be strained, it was only after Ramona dated both of them since in her mind it was just a fuck buddy situation but to the twins, they thought it was more
They reconcile and realise that they never truly knew eachother, so they swear to always have time for one another. They get over Ramone pretty quickly and after Ramona breaks up with Gideon, She calls them to get a drink but it's so she forgets about Gideon. In this AU, they're kind of like Julie, Stacey, and Wallace in two, they're aware of Ramona's flaws and call them out, they're not subtle or kind with it either, they bluntly say it. When they first meet Scott, Ken basically whispers for Scott to run, also have the best relationship with Scott, they provide alot about Ramona's past whenever Ramona tries to hide it and they genuinely care for Scott's wellbeing, while Scott was temporarily out of Sex Bob-Omb, he also temporarily joined the twins music career things
Gideon was already over Ramona when she left him, he isn't going to get her back for his harem, instead he just plays around, he only cryogenically freezes people he considers as partner material and people that genuinely interest him plus can deal with him, Ramona isn't suitable for his standards of a perfect girlfriend, so he didn't truly care when he saw ramona again
but he does insult and mock Ramona when he finds out that she's dating Scott, aka his lead bassist of the band he recently is working with (but also/probably plot twist scideon, cause i find that to be hilarious and fun to explore)

Now that it’s been a week since I've watched Roald Dahl's Matilda: The Musical, here are all my thoughts (as someone who loves the musical and played Bruce once):
THE BABIES SINGING IN THE OPENING NUMBER WAS THE CUTEST SHIT I'VE EVER SEEN
The cast was INCREDIBLE!! Emma Thompson was terrifying! Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough were hilarious! Lashana Lynch was so endearing! AND I WANNA SEE ALISHA WEIR IN MORE STUFF BECAUSE SHE ATE IT UP
I want to give credit to the makeup team for Trunchbull's makeup because even though I knew it was Emma Thompson, they did such a good job of realistically transforming her into someone else. Her appearance wasn't a joke in the same way that it is in the musical. Her character in the stage version is definitely pretty misogynistic and transphobic because they play into her masculinity by having a man play her. Here, it's just a way of adding to her character, but it isn't what makes her scary.
All of the changes worked so well in adapting it for the screen. It wasn't just a copy-paste (couch cough everybody's talking about jamie) Examples of the changes that really worked:
Getting rid of Michael Wormwood. It makes sense since the Wormwoods clearly hate kids.
Giving Lavender a pet newt (very Chekhov's Guncore)
Including telekinesis throughout the whole story instead of just showing it a few times in the 3rd act. This includes Nigel asking Matilda if she has TK, Matilda messing with the doors in the cake scene, exploding the chokey, THE FUCKING CHAINS
Having the Spain news earlier in the story, causing a catalyst of events. Matilda is enraged, she sings I'm Here, she explodes the chokey (which was BONE-CHILLING), it gives Trunchbull a reason to make more chokies, and now Matilda is so emotional that she can take her powers to the extreme with the chalkboard and the chains and throwing Trunchbull out the window. All of this gave much better pacing in the story and made it all connected.
Having more scenes outside of the classroom (the cake scene and The Smell of Rebellion) and putting Ms. Phelps' library in her car. It's quirky and also gives them an excuse to put the storytelling scenes in pretty locations.
Giving Ms Honey a bike while her co-worker had a car, foreshadowing her being poor.
Putting Matilda's bedroom in the attic made so much sense because the Wormwoods obviously did the bare minimum for their child.
The students' drawings in Ms Honey's cottage
SO MANY FANTASY SEQUENCES! BRUCE!! WHEN I GROW UP!!! QUIET!!!!
All of the kids were so adorable (and ridiculously talented!)
The storytelling sequences!!! Interweaving it with the real world worked so well, like Matilda making it a real story for school but also clearly using it to cope. And putting them in a real circus made me more empathy for the Honeys, which lacked in the stage version because it always felt very thrown-in to me. Like, I genuinely got nervous during the stunt with the dynamite. It also made "I'm Here" even more emotional. Carl Spencer was amazing as Magnus and I teared up a bit. Also the parallels of I'm Here vs My House, helping Matilda put the pieces together.
The new song wasn't my favorite but it was a really nice finishing touch. Even though the circus at the school didn't logically make sense it was so fun
The only things I disliked: I wanted more of the already incredible stuff. More of the Wormwoods, who were absolutely hilarious, especially Mrs Wormwood. I really missed "Loud" (though removing it helped with the pacing). I wanted a bit more of Bruce (they didn’t give him the high note in Revolting Children 😭), and I would've liked Ms Honey to be a bit more affectionate with Matilda.
Anywho I want snort this movie like cocaine

i forgot it was april fools lol. i definitly did not end up sprinkling in a bunch of memes in there, nope, not at all.
I havent checked my dashboard until a few minutes earlier, but now im booping everyone i find in there, its just so damm fun! its kinda sad that its just for april fools, i wish the booping stayed forever like its way too silly i love it.
Oh yeah the drawing yep aight. So uh, i had the idea yesterday and this looks NOTHING like what i had planned, it was just going to be a plain white backgroung, and i was trying to make it look like a pencil sketch (kinda). and simple coloring. but i had a lot of problems and drawing this ended up being really frustrating but im kinda happy with the result even if it difers so much from the og idea.
Tumblr media
also here is a clean version (aka no memes)
i tend to change my idea as im drawing so after i realized this was not going to look like i thought, i tried some effects and i came up with the idea of making it look...off.
Backgrounf with saturated colors consisting of red and blue and a fecto elfilis who looks rather dreamy, wich is totally not kinda inspired by isolated isles and high school musical 2 believe it or not (im confused as to how that was present in my mind as inspiration but i guess anything works as a reference) and contrasting with the darker background from how light and glowy i made him.
Fun fact: when i drew elfilis here, they were reminding me of a bunny, so you could kinda count this as a bit of an easter post since im probably going to forget to do something for that.
fun fact 2: this image is based on a fanfic im writing right now, i havent posted it yet, and when i do im pretty sure i'll put it into the Anonymous collection, since what im writing is very different from my usual, i tend to write about my splatoon ocs or sometimes about kirby characters, most of these fics tend to be general with not a lot of archieve warnings and stuff (save for one but that one was very very tame and just had an implication of a character dying at the end) and they're oneshots, most of them, this one is also a oneshot. i just enjoy writing that, but its a little bit....how to say it? bloody, i just have like the start made and its probably going to take me a while to finish, im also thinking of reading it multiple times since most of my works are usually just the first draft. but uh since its quite different and has that im quite scared of the reception it might have when i post it, in fact a lot of times i dont post stuff since even tho i know i shouldnt worry about others, i still do like an idiot, i just cant help caring about what other people think of me. and yeah basically its just not like the usual fluff i write.
next post might be splatoon related since im redesigning some ocs i had, or it might be princess peach showtime because my father got me the game and im loving it
Thank you for listening to my unnecesarily long rambles and Jambuhbye!

what do you think was the catalyst to sending false edge away to boarding school? not to pressure you into thinking about it or anything; i've accepted in life that liking indie projects comes with the high rates of them dying out before finishing for a multitude of reasons and that's ok! tons of artists are suffering from burnout now thanks to....recent societal advances. and i'll cherish false edge (alongside all your art! including the ones you might find old and ratty) forever even if it never comes back. i was just pondering about how the last pages were uploaded in 2020 and, well. there sure was something in the air that year
Dude. Insanely good question. I actually have an answer.
1) You sussed it out! I took a hiatus basically right before the summer of 2020, mid-quarantine and right as things heated up protest-wise. Suddenly my silly self-indulgent comic felt very... well, silly, and got put on the backburner. Which leads into the other issue...
2) I interrupted a great momentum. Pumping out a page every week was thrilling and terrifying-- but my art-polishing process is bizarrely slow and tedious for what I produce. Almost all my drawing time was dedicated to making the comic, which is easiest to be cool with when you have productivity blinders on. But once I pivoted to, say, doing sketches for BLM fundraising... I started to grow complacent with easier forms of production, oops.
3) I left off on the part of the story that I was least confident about-- Kalga and Garron's "courtship". I think romance is pretty obviously not my wheelhouse, even their weird version of it. I was in the process of committing to things that I'd mildly neglected hammering out. This would have been 10x easier to jump back into if we were still on Fiend and Hera. I KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO WRITE FIEND AND HERA.
A few useful things have changed, though-- I've gotten a little more exercise in both fantasy and romance mechanics in the last 4 years, and I've been considering moving from pencil-drawn lines to iPad. I still consider this story an extremely fun playground and it's always insane to me that anyone else likes or misses it. I miss it.

Welcome To Demon School! Iruma-Kun Volume 3: Flowers Blossoming In The Night
Tumblr media
God, it's been two months already? I'm so used to the typical quarterly release of series that Kodansha's catchup schedule with Iruma has caught me completely off-guard, but I'm all for it since I get to read more of this series! And what a trip down memory lane it is. Crazy to think that it's only been 4 years since the anime started airing, it feels like it's been much longer than that. Anyways, enough of my reminiscing, let me talk details with this volume!
The more I tend to read in a single sitting, the more I tend to compare the art of various series to one another. It's not a great practice, as each artist is aiming for something different in the mix, but sometimes it can help in making me aware of things that I wasn't previously.
A really great example of this is character blocking or posing. It's definitely something you can easily take for granted, and might not always feel like something noteworthy to share (unless it's really good). But anyways, the point was in my reads throughout today, I read a few series that had rather stiff characters and designs. Comparing that with Nishi's already incredibly fluid art, I could really feel the difference and effort that went into character posing to match that fluidity. Something that really puts effort into providing a dynamic feel where applicable, which plays really well alongside Nishi's static and delayed approach to humor.
I know it's really bad to try and talk about something that's so difficult to properly be aware of and to explain, but just the posing and the little details with lines and whatnot adds a lot to how you perceive and react to the poses and drawings.
Tumblr media
Also, the Clara moment is this volume! But before that, some anime content (since I've gone to grab a screenshot). The anime actually adds content to this sequence/chapter, and it's a really great addition in my opinion. When Clara's down and out after being mocked by her classmates she returns home, rather deflated. To cut a long story short, it's a really great addition that drives home the importance of family and how they can reflect on/help with the confidence of a high school student and the troubles that face them at school.
Also an all-in-one seduction attempt from Clara that proves nearly fatal for Kalego.
But! The all-important question, how does the anime version of the Clara scene compare to the manga?
Well, I don't want to say it's a non-contest, but I think the manga has the strongest essence and feel to it. For me, it mostly lies in the eyes. The manga version is just that bit more squinted/narrowed, which makes it feel more happy and playful, resulting in a far more effective and true visage for Clara.
Now, that's not to say that the anime's version is a wash, it's still great and really close to the manga. It also has the advantage of being able to build up to the moment better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving on, I've talked at end about the expressiveness of Nishi's art, and how willing they are to get down and dirty with little differences in art and approach to characters and whatnot. With that in mind I'll spare the trouble of re-hashing that and instead turn my attention towards the messages of this volume.
Okay, maybe I lied a little. I just can't get enough of Nishi's range. Five total characters on the page, and all of them look so different. The shading, the use of color, they're all so varied. And most importantly, they're all so cute and fun.
Tumblr media
Anyways, there's just so many and they're all so natural and well integrated that you can easily miss them. Things like Iruma starting to take agency in his own decisions and life (even if it is in the underworld where he may be eaten alive).
Tumblr media
I think my two favorite moments from this volume in regards to messages though would be Iruma's run-in with Kiriwo, and Sully's conversation with the big 3. Both present such simple but impactful aspects for the characters and story at large.
With Kiriwo, while it is about Iruma finding someone "like him", it's got way more to it than that. It's about finding your place to belong, somewhere that you feel that it's okay to be yourself. Add on top of that its emphasis on equality and a desire to let everyone be equal, and it just speaks so much to Iruma as a character (thanks to his terrible childhood where he was powerless against the life he was forced into). Also, something something acting in an expected manner for the sake of popularity and acceptance.
Tumblr media
Now with Sully, it's not really something directly relating to Iruma, but I still love it so much. With the chance to unanimously take the Demon King's Throne and rule over the underworld, something that countless Demons aspire towards, he casually shrugs it off for the sake of his (new, and definitely not kidnapped) grandson. Especially these days, and doubly so under the guise of Japanese work culture, denying an effective promotion that would (as Sully puts it) "take me away from my Grandson" just carries so much weight. Choosing family and happiness over accolades and achievements, it's a really admirable and heartwarming piece.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just to re-wind a little, it's super great to see how strong and important Kalego's established to be as a character so early on. His hardline on the students about the importance of education, and the dangers of the world really is very strong right out the gates.
Tumblr media
Anyways, I think I've made my point on this volume very well. It carries everything that I love about this story, and even without motion or all the other addition of an anime, displays and depicts it wonderfully to the reader. It's got the same energy and excitement, and all the same important and valuable pieces to it as well. Just always, always a good time. Can't wait for the next volume to drop (in two months!).

Mods to Make School Better (High School Years + Discover University)
I really love The Sims 4, but I love The Sims 4 because I play a heavily modded game. I know that option isn’t for everyone, but for those who do... Sometimes it’s hard to know where to look. It’s like when you’re hungry and you open up your food delivery service of choice and are just overwhelmed by the options these days.
Luckily... I look around a lot.
This post is inspired by the other amazing posts here, here, here and of course here. It started as something just for High School Years but grew... very quickly...
This list was last updated 17 September 2022 / Patch 1.91.205.
Tumblr media
More Students at High School (Ksuihuh) OR High School More Class Mates (Aramiteus)
Use one or the other here and read the descriptions because if you use Aramiteus’ version, you need to change MCCC Maximum Sims on Lot Value to about 40.
The main draw is that more students will be on the High School lot. Aramiteus’ mod also adds 2 other teachers and an extra lunch person dependent on how many whiteboards/cafeterias you have on lot. It also requires you to choose your classmates before going to school.
Ksuihuh’s version comes with a script mod to increase the numbers of sims on the lot, as well an extra mod for an extra lunch person. It does not make you pick the sims going to class--you will need Rex’s Choose High School Classmates mod to ensure the sims you want are going to show up to school!
ChippedSim’s High School Tweaks
ChippedSim calls these “tweaks” but a full Active Class experience overhaul is a bit more than that in my opinion!
Please note that updates are coming to this mod ACTIVELY - just today I saw that there were more in class interactions for the Active Classes! So keep an eye out on tumblr or twitter.
ChippedSim also overhauled the lockers so that you can keep more thing in there, as well as buy some stuff! Take a look at the full breakdown here, but I can’t recommend this enough.
ADeepIndigo’s Small High School Years Tweaks
Yes, I’m saying just download the whole lot.
More Discipline adds Parenthood compatibility--you can now discipline your kids for misbehaving/sneaking out/getting expelled. Why wasn’t that included by default? Ask EA, and thank ADeepIndigo in the meantime.
More Fun Pier Rides does what it says: raises the fun meter more!
Less Random Crushes makes it so that crushes are determined by Sims’ personalities instead of just randomly occurring.
Shop for Prom Outfit is just a really cute idea! It costs $100 to buy a prom outfit, and that can only be done once prom is announced.
My favorite has to be More Locker Notes. Don’t just let your sims cyberbully on Social Bunny. Let them passive-aggressively do it in person too.
ADeepIndigo’s Dynamic Teen Life
As of writing this, the mod is still in testing but I’ve been playing with it in my game for a few days and I’m still playing around with it, but it already adds sooo much more to my teen’s lives. More afterschool activities, popularity and cliques, new journal entries (for the Parenthood journals).... Gossip, rumors and having to actually try out to join the cheerleading squad.
Oh yes, I think this’ll become not just an essential mod for HSY users, but for most legacy players as well.
MissyHissy’s Form Groups in School
I won’t be surprised if MissyHissy comes out with some more mods but this is the one from their tweaks I’m currently using. EA didn’t let groups form in school which... you know, you’d think they’d want some cross-compatibility with previous packs to allow for literal cliquey behaviors but.
Anyway, this fixes that!
Lot51.cc’s Fashion Authority
I haven’t played much with this yet for high school but have it in my game for other reasons. This mod lets you take control of townie outfits... Including situation ones, and can restrict by regions. This is excellent if you want to have your sims wear a uniform to Copperdale, for instance, or you have a specific cheerleading uniform in mind, etc.
LittleMsSam’s HSY Bug Fixes
Hopefully we will not need these forever. Until they are patched though...
Take Exam Fix - stops sims from just getting up five minutes after the exam.
NPC Relationship Autonomy Fix - are you tired of random sims barging in, asking you to be BFFs after you added them on Social Bunny? fear not, because this should curb NPCs’ stalking you.
High School Promote Fix - helps the game promote sims from Cs to Bs if they’ve been going to school actively the whole time...
Stop Phone Change Color Obsession - I needed this one bad. Stops sims from changing their phone color every time they visited a new lot, and removed the camera focus as well
Ilkavelle’s Check Events & Sneak Out
A tiny little mod by Ilkavelle to help your sims sneak out, if they haven’t been getting invited out by their classmates!
Ilkavelle’s Teen Aspiration Bundle
I didn’t link this before as the teen aspirations hadn’t been updated to work with high school years... But now they have! This adds a few more teen-only aspirations for your sims (Prom Royalty, Overachiever, Towards Independence and Teenage Rebellion).
Tumblr media
ADeepIndigo’s Summer Camps
We’re moving away from High School Years fixes and enhancements straight over to the joys of gameplay. This mod adds Summer Camps to the game which is... actually really super fun? Summer Camp is for children and teen sims; there are a variety of different camps to send your kids off to. This isn’t an active experience; it’s a rabbit hole “job” that replaces school, and there are both day camps and away camps. It’s also ONLY available during the summer, and camp automatically ends when summer does.
Simston Private School [originally by SHEnanigans, adopted by ADeepIndigo]
ADeepIndigo adopted this mod by SHEnanigans after she was hired by EA, and updated it for the most recent patch. There’s not a current write-up about this mod available from a modding source, but there is a review by SnootySims that you can read, or you can read this capture from the Wayback Machine.
This mod recreates the TS2 Headmaster Visit event - if you pass, your child/teen is then enrolled in Private School. No more basic public school for your snooty rich sims!
Homework Tweaks & Subject Homework [originally by Scarlet, adopted by LittleMsSam]
I’ve had this so long, I genuinely forgot how long sims take to do homework. This mod comes in a few different flavors, but it makes sims do their homework... faster! Time is money, right?
Subject Homework also allows sims to raise skill while doing their homework. There’s a couple different options for what homework they can do, and I personally like to try to match it to what class my sims had in High School that day [maybe they write a persuasive essay after Social Studies, etc].
Tumblr media
Zero’s University Custom Degrees & Tweaks/Fixes
Maybe you’re like me. Maybe you’ve played TS4 a lot, and you’re tired of all those regular degrees. Maybe you’re a little annoyed that completing university plays into the lie we American millennials were told that going to college is the fast track to riches. Well fear not, because not only does this mod add 15 custom degrees, it also overhauls how degrees play into careers if you want it to.
This is very modular so read the post carefully. I personally play with Zero’s tunings, because I also use University Costs More, Higher Scholarships and  Harder Distinguished Degree Acceptance, as well as the Required Degree for Promotion that’s in optional folder. I know TS4 is a fantasy where I can have vampires and werewolves and also secret agents but I also like to make life hard on myself.
If you just want the Custom Degrees, good news: there’s also a file that goes by EA’s tunings so you don’t need to have everything cost an arm, leg and house or require degrees for jobs or anything.
There are other tweaks available, mostly to adjust the autonomy from roommates in dorms.
Revy’s Get Back your Presentation Board
I don’t want to talk about all the times I’ve lost my presentation board. This mod provides a way to get it back. You just have to email your professor.
LittleMsSam’s Choose your Roommate
Lets you pick your dormmates or roommates :’) Great if you have a specific storyline in mind and already have the classmates picked out. This is another mod that has steps so read the post carefully. You can also pair it with LittleMsSam’s Chores mod to set up cleaning rotations :)
Tumblr media
Zerbu’s Go to School V5 [Builder’s Tools]
Did you think I’d leave out the child stage? I’m not EA. I’m including this one here as while its actively in development, builders can get started building elementary schools now. You can also read Zerbu’s plans for elementary school here. I would not recommend using the old mod for now, as its considered unsupported and will be replaced by the new version requiring HSY.
But until then, I’m keeping it here as I know Go to School is a long running mod. V4 is here.
Ilkavelle’s Children Aspiration Bundle
Tired of the same 4 aspirations for each kid? Me too!! This mod adds four new aspirations for your kids to complete: Little Entrepreneur, School Star, Little Explorer and Voidcritters Master.
Ilkavelle’s After School Activities Bundles
You’ve got more aspirations so get more things to do after school too! Bundle 1 adds 5 after school activites focused on creative skills, Bundle 2 is on mental skills. The second bundle also requires a few of her events mods...
Ilkavelle Event Mods
The three that are required for the after school bundles [& also usable with the children aspirations!]...
School Trip: take a trip with your class to a museum or park!
Science Fair: yes, HSY has a science fair too, but this is an active event for kids as well! Compete in a science fair against your peers, and perhaps be judged as the best
Debate Event: let your future lawyers compete against each other, starting from grade school. These events can also be attended by teens, in case you want them to go to debate club as well
Talent Contest: well if there’s a science fair, your artsy students should also get a chance to show off, right? This one isn’t required but it is a really cute idea.
Ilkavelle’s One Time Jobs for Teens & Kids
One of the childhood aspiration add-ons is about making some money as a kid. This allows kids to take up some jobs around the neighborhood (pet sitting, dog walking, lemonade stand, etc). Just a nice little add-on for your kids to do something extra.
Tumblr media
credit and my many thanks to all the modders who enhance my gameplay exponentially, and to other simmers who have also made mod rec lists that inspired this one. If you have another category of mods you’d like me to post let me know - like I said, I have a lot of mods I play with 😊

Questions for 15 Friends Tag Game
Tagged by @siarven--thanks for the tag!
Rules: Answer the questions, then tag 15 people.
ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
Uh...not really but also kind of for my legal name? It was the name of a character in a soap opera my mom watched, and she liked it enough to use it for me.
My chosen name...also kind of falls under the same umbrella, but for different reasons, and, uh...comes with a story. So like--I was really into fantasy stories when I was a kid/teen (I say like I'm not still into them now), and I loved making up "fantasy" names, which...basically just meant shoving a bunch of letters together until I got something I thought sounded cool. One of those names was "Coriora." For whatever reason, I fell in love with this name, and it's shortened version, "Cori," and I used it for everything. Pokemon nicknames, random characters, a self-insert OC...
And my cat. Who I adopted a few months before I made my email and FF.net account. Which is when I officially started using the name "CoriShadowfang" as my primary username online. Teenage me didn't even have the thought in her mind that she could possibly identify with the name "Cori" enough to adopt it as her own, nor did she think of the potential consequences of sharing a name with her cat.
...On the plus side, it's funny to call my cat "Cori Sr.," and watch how people try to process that.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
Uh...I think Friday night? I'm pretty sure it was about something I was planning for a story, aha. (I cry VERY easy, haha, and the thing that spurs it does not necessarily have to be sad.)
DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
Do pets count...?
WHAT SPORTS DO YOU PLAY/HAVE YOU PLAYED?
I was signed up for baseball, basketball, and soccer when I was a kid, though of those, soccer was the only one I actually liked. I ended up running cross country and track in high school (though after that ended up running only for fun, since, uh...the competitive part of that wasn't very enjoyable for me, aha). In college I did fencing, which I loved and often miss a lot, but there...really aren't many places that offer fencing around where I live. I did do some long sword for a while a couple of years ago; transition to that from fencing was an interesting experience, since the fencing muscle memory...did not go away. ("What do you mean I have to hold this with two hands?? ...What do you mean I can't just stab them?!") That ended up being pretty expensive, though, so I only got to take lessons for a few months. It was still fun, though!
DO YOU USE SARCASM?
Depends on the situation! I use it a lot less online, because I'm worried about coming across as, like...rude or mean. When I do use it, it's often toned down a lot. Offline, it depends on who I'm around, and how they react to it. (Or if I'm just...getting really frustrated. Then it tends to come out more.)
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?
Uh, that's...a good question. Online, it's definitely their interests, and...I guess it's kind of also the same offline? If I'm given the opportunity, haha. Like--if I see you're wearing a Pokemon pin or reading a fantasy book or something, I'm immediately going to be focused on that, haha.
WHAT’S YOUR EYE COLOUR?
Mostly blue; the bottom of my right eye has a patch of green in it.
SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS?
Happy endings! I never got into scary movies very much, aha.
ANY TALENTS?
Uh...I guess writing probably counts? I'm also a pretty good distance runner.
WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
The middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?
Writing, haha; I joke that it's all I do, but uh...it really is most of what I do. Besides that, I like drawing, reading, playing video games, and hiking. I guess playing card games/board games might also count? But uh, I do that a lot with my friends and family.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?
Yes! Cori Sr. is still around, haha, and I also recently adopted a puppy named Luna. Obligatory pet photos:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HOW TALL ARE YOU?
5'4''
FAVOURITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL?
Probably unsurprisingly, lit/creative writing, haha. I also really liked most science classes, too; learning about nature was one of my favorite things in school, and any sort of labs where we could go outside and actually study plants/animals were amazing.
DREAM JOB?
If money weren't a concern, and I could just do anything I wanted for the rest of my life without worrying about how to pay the bills...I would love to just write stories full time. Writing really is one of the things I'm the most passionate about, and I'd love to be able to pour my all into it without worrying about getting too burnt out or needing to take on extra jobs to make ends meet. Maybe one day...
I will tag...wait I need 15 of you...uhhh @starlightwayfinder, @cq-studios, @recusant-s-sigil, @scalacaelumx, @hallowed-nebulae, @serenedash, @thetwilightroadtonightfall, @rosie-kairi, @fin-al-mix, @kicktwine, @zmwrites, @talesabound, @gotchaocha, @bookwormally, and @lightwithinthedarknessu, if any of you want to do this! Absolutely no pressure, though! (And feel free to skip/leave out any you might feel uncomfortable answering/don't feel like answering.)

Todoroki
-the thing that makes him the angriest after his friends getting hurt is bullying
