[ image: a drawing of lil oly. he's standing in a dark place, holding a very bored mr bun in his arms. he looks worried, staring at the viewer. behind him, his father's large, rusty cleaver hangs from a bruised, bleeding blue hand, dripping a puddle of blood behind lil oly. in the intermediate darkness around lil oly, t bones on bone stems and bacon grass and lumps of steak, grow thickly. ]
what kind of world is lil oly from, without the framing of a circus? darkness... meat?

if you're so inclined, what are your top three games!!! if that does not suffice, what are your top 5 games!!! bonus points for as to why!
5. Silent Hill 3
May favorite horror game, Silent Hill 3 is one of few horror titles which really stuck with me long after I had finished playing it. I was attending high school at the time, and there were many changes occuring within my life. Silent Hill 3′s raw and visceral presentation of themes such as coming of age, emotional isolation and abuse, dealing with societal pressures, and religious manipulation truly resonated with me.
4. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Tied with Majora’s Mask as favorite entry in the Zelda franchise, Breath of the Wild presents a freedom of approach to virtually every aspect of its world few other games can match. My first experience through this iteration of Hyrule is completely my own, and it’s fun to converse with my friends about our discoveries and unique adventures. While subsequent playthroughs don’t have the same magic as the first, I still find myself returning to Hyrule’s robust sandbox time and time again.
3. Dark Souls
By the time I discovered Dark Souls, I was suffering serious video game fatigue. I was mostly playing multiplayer-focused titles at the time, one of my favorites being Halo 3, but I was growing tired of the repetitious and overly-competitive multiplayer scene. Most single-player experiences weren’t quite doing it for me either, as they were either too easy or lacked an intrguing enough story and setting to fully engage me. One day, while browsing online, I happened upon a trailer for Dark Souls and was enthralled. I learned a friend of mine had a copy, so I asked him if I could borrow it. To my surprise, he gave it to me (he would later regret that decision with the announcement of the Artorias of the Abyss dlc). I was instantly hooked. The “tough but fair” difficulty, extensive lore and worldbuilding, level and world design, unique multiplayer system, and action roleplaying mechanics all worked to create one of my favorite video game experiences to date.
2. NieR: Automata
My second favorite game currently, NieR: Automata’s heart-wrenching story and metaphysical and existential thematic undertones continue to captivate me. The post-apocalyptic world of Automata possesses an eerie, almost dreamlike serenity, aided by its stunning art direction and breathtaking score. Speaking of score, Automata’s soundtrack is perhaps my favorite of all time. One particular theme, I will not say which for spoilers sake, I cannot listen too without succumbing to tears. This piece, along with the scene over which it plays, continues to have a profound emotional impact on me. I won’t say anymore, as one truly needs to experience this masterpiece.
1. Bloodborne
My favorite video game, it essentially takes everything I love about Dark Souls from a game design perspective and virtually perfects it. As a fan of gothic horror, I feel myself drawn into the coffin-lined streets of Yharnam. The twist into Lovecraftian horror about halfway through the game completely took me by surprise, almost as if I had stumbled upon my own Eldritch Truth. While more linear than its predecessors, I enjoy the world, lore, and gameplay so much that I cannot help but return to the hunt. With each new night, I uncover more secrets, and thus continue to line my brain with eyes.
