Touring 3D print lab, notice weird smell coming from a Guy at nearby workstation.
Smell of campfire permeates. I offhandedly ask if someone is doing a wood burning project. And it goes over my head that we are inside a library. With no ventilation.
This man I spot was using a Dremel. Fine. Notice the bit he’s using on his project. No longer fine.
This man was using a STONE carving bit. On WOOD AND STEEL SIMULTANEOUSLY.
But not only that dear readers,
The bit and large portions of his project WERE
CHARCOAL. BLACK.
As in this man used the bit so hard and so long he BURNED IT. AND THE WOOD. DREMEL IS ALSO SMOKING BTW.
So, the other weekend I hyperfocused on making that tiny goblet, right? I learned the hard way that holding dremel for hours on end don't play nice with loose joints and ended up having to wrap my wrist for days because it hurted so much and felt like it was looser than usual.
I asked for help on FB group and was recommended to try flex shaft. I got one, not a cheap purchase, but turns out it helped a ton!
So when last weekend I hyperfocused on carving a bigger goblet, I had some minor aches yes, but it didn't even agitate the old injury :D
And this is what the new goblet looks like
Still needs bit of sanding, polishing and oiling, but I'm really satisfied with how it turned out ❤️
Dad said he's been looking for a turning lathe, with full knowledge that I WILL teach myself to use it to make stuff like this :D
I fell down a rabbit hole tonight that started with looking for a solution to wear to hang my spindle on a jacket I'm making and ended up looking for ways to make rough cut gemstone buttons with a dremel.
Now I need people to follow who do this type of work so I can understand it better and I'm struggling to track any down via tags
[sold] did some serious cleanup on this mug tonight! it's always difficult to decide how much to dremel - I'm always chasing that fine line where the piece is as functional as possible, without sacrificing all the work that I (and the soda kiln) put into making the base beautiful.
Bindrune designs made as a gift for MGMags on dA, with his username and initials. Engraved in glass with a Dremel and diamond burrs; coloured in with porcelain paints.
[Image description (because apparently at some point I adjusted this in the old editor and can no longer add alt text on the image itself?) starts here: Two decorative glass stones, black in colour. The one at lower left is teardrop-shaped, oriented with the small point up. The one at top right is oval in shape, oriented vertically. Each one is engraved with a different bindrune design. The one at lower left is coloured with metallic silver paint, and the one at top right is coloured with metallic copper paint. End description.]
Whoever invented the dremel deserves a fate like that of Prometheus. To imbue such power into such a small object and then give that power to the hands of mankind thinking we would control ourselves is either the greatest act of naïveté or the greatest act of hubris of our time.
