Φυσικά αναφέρομαι στο Honda Civic Type R. Με τη δυναμική του σχεδίαση που σου κόβει την ανάσα, αλλά και με το βελτιστοποιημένο και αναβαθμισμένο κινητήρα του. Ας το γνωρίσουμε όμως λίγο καλύτερα ξεκινώντας από την «καρδιά» αυτού του hot hatch, τον κινητήρα του. Hardcore δίλιτρος, 16βάλβιδος, VTC Turbo κινητήρας, όπως τον γνωρίσαμε και στην προηγούμενη γενιά του Type R. Η ανασχεδιασμένη εξάτμιση, η καλύτερη ροή, αλλά και το ελαφρύτερο βολάν, είναι μερικά από τα χαρακτηριστικά που εξηγούν τα συν 10 αλογάκια, φτάνοντας τα 320. Το ανανεωμένο μοτέρ, πλέον πιο γεμάτο σε όλα τα επίπεδα, δικαιολογεί τη βελτιστοποιημένη γραμμική του λειτουργία. Έτσι βελτιώθηκε και το bug του στα χαμηλά, με επιπλέον διατήρηση των 400 Nm ροπής σε μεγαλύτερο φάσμα λειτουργίας (από τις 2500 rpm). Η τεχνολογία VTEC (μεταβλητός χρονισμός και ηλεκτρονικός έλεγχος βαλβίδων) ενσωματώνεται για μια ακόμη φορά στο καινοτόμο του μοτέρ, που είναι εμπλουτισμένο με την τεχνολογία διπλού μεταβλητού ελέγχου (dual-variable timing control-vtc). Επιδόσεις που συναρπάζουν Τα χαρακτηριστικά αυτά τον αναδεικνύουν σε ιδιαίτερα εύστροφο για υπερτροφοδοτούμενο. Ειδικότερα, ανεβάζει αβίαστα στροφές μέχρι και τον κόφτη, ανεξάρτητα από την επιλεγμένη σχέση στο 6τάχυτο θετικό, με κοντές διαδρομές κιβώτιο. Τέλος, έρχεται να μας καταπλήξει με τις καταιγιστικές του επιδόσεις. Πετυχαίνει τα 0-100 χλμ/ώρα σε μόλις 5,8” και αγγίζει την άκρως ικανοποιητική τελική, για hatchback, των 270 χλμ/ώρα. Όλα τα παραπάνω, δίνουν μια εξήγηση για την βράβευση του νέου Honda Civic Type R από τους αναγνώστες του γερμανικού περιοδικού «sport-auto» ως «καλύτερο εισαγόμενο μικρομεσαίο σπορ αυτοκίνητο». Η αγάπη για το hatchback φαίνεται και στο γεγονός ότι πάνω από 13.000 αναγνώστες συμμετείχαν σε αυτή την ψηφοφορία. Βέβαια, το «αγωνιστικό αυτοκίνητο με έγκριση στο δρόμο» της Honda ήταν ακόμη φρέσκο για το νέο του ρεκόρ γύρου για εμπροσθιοκίνητα οχήματα που μόλις είχε πετύχει στο θρυλικό Nürburgring.
