Microraptor was among the most abundant non-avialan dinosaurs in its ecosystem, represented by more fossils than any other dromaeosaurid. Over 300 Microraptor specimens are possibly contained in museums across the globe.
This past week I researched and illustrated a dinosaur alphabet book! I researched and illustrated 26 maniraptorans for the project, specifically limiting myself to species that went extinct before the Eocene to exclude modern birds. This project was a huge amount of fun for me and I'm very proud of the result, so I hope you all enjoy them too! Please look forward to the rest of the series, which I'll be posting over the course of the coming week or so.
Was thinking about how Kasifer would move. He sits like a chicken, and runs like a raptor. Since he walks upright most of the time he balances his upper body out with his wings, so it ends up looking like a vulture walking.
I think I have the most visceral reaction to pheasant coukals rn. They just have the coolest animations. Also guinea fowl, have you ever seen one up close? They're FREAKS. I'm obsessed. Best ask of the world award goes to you 💗
Buitreraptor, a genus of small dromaeosaurid dinosaur, had some rather unique features among other dromaeosaurs. It had a slender, flat snout, which was extremely elongated, and its teeth were recurved, flattened, and grooved, and lacked serrating edges, both features which are atypical in northern dromaeosaurs.
