Having seen many movies with a similar premise, I was expecting Drop Dead Fred to be about Fred coming to life, maturing with the help of Lizzie, and then falling in love with her. I was NOT expecting this heartbreaking story about a broken woman who learns to stand up for herself and becoming comfortable with independence. I’m crying.

They are only seen and heard by Lucifer, other characters around think he is crazy when talking to them. Vioo exists to be Lucifer’s curruptor as she lives to cause chaos, yet all the blame for her actions falls on Lucifer afterwards. Even when she drives him up the fall, she had been his closest friend, who always encouraged his dreaming behaviour. (there's a lot more history and potential plans for this; yet I'll stop here now. Trigger warning for child neglect/emotional abuse

Tim Drake had a lonely, cold childhood.

When his parents were home, they hardly seemed to notice him. When they were home.

More often then not they were off on digs leaving him at boarding school.Even at the school, he was mostly ignored by adults and children alike.

Was it any wonder he had an imaginary friend?

When Phantom started showing up, everyone noticed. It was difficult not to when a quiet child like Tim started constantly talking to thin air and pulling pranks on everyone. Pranks that no one can ever catch him setting up, but he’s always there when they go off.

But he always said that it wasn’t him. It was Phantom.

Eventually, the school had enough and expelled Tim. His parents are LIVID. No only do they have to come home early from the dig, but now, they have nowhere to send him the next time they leave.

In the end, they hire a nanny to watch over Tim in the Manor. But, the pranks continue and escalate. Everything from the classic frog-in-the-bed to the disgusting filling-the-shoes-with-dog-poo to the just plain weird and unexpected covered-the-floor-in-mayo-so-the-person-slides-across-the-floor-into-a-tub-full-of-old-pumpkin-guts.

They go through nanny after nanny before their newest employee figures out how to seal Phantom away.

Tim returns to the quiet, forgotten child that he was before. His parents find him a new boarding school and everything goes back to the way it was before.

Tim grows up. He finds out the identity of Batman. He trains to be Robin. His mother dies. His dad is paralyzed. He becomes Robin. His father died.

After his father’s funeral, Tim goes back to  Drake Manor. Eventually, he finds himself in his childhood bedroom. Among the knickknacks and toys he finds a small music box all covered in tape. He cuts through the tape, but, before he can open it, out pops a black and white blob.

The blob bounces around the room and grows larger and larger. When it finally comes to a stop, floating in front of him is a girl.

She opens her mouth and says “EWWW! What happened to you, fart breath?”

And now for a fourth year running: it's the Rik and Ade Fest! We've been trying to get your attention for the past 10 weeks, so hopefully you're listening! Give this blog a follow NOW to stay up to date as this year's fest progresses. Right on!

As usual, you can submit up to 3 prompts for fanart and/or fanfic for any piece of media featuring Rik and/or Ade. Also, as usual, you don't need to commit to making art or fic later to submit a prompt. We need more prompts than participants!

PLEASE READ THIS BIT! 🚨

Unusually, there's an extra rule in place for prompts this year. We're asking you to please not send in any prompts for The Young Ones or Bottom - just for this year! Next year, you can go mad!

Why are we asking this of you? Is it just that we're bastards? Well, we've noticed an (unsurprising) bias towards these two shows throughout fests, so we're trying to give Rik and Ade's lesser known/popular media a chance.

If you do accidentally submit a TYO or Bottom prompt this year, never fear! We won't be adding it to the prompt list this time, but we will hold on to it and add it next year. As well as this, all the previous unclaimed prompts for TYO and Bottom will still be available for artists and writers to claim and make work for this year.

But anyway, here's the ol' reliable Google Form for submissions. It will be open from today (23rd March) until 1st April.

We are aware our fanart books currently have broken links. This is a recent occurrence. Ao3 cannot host pictures, so all fests' art is hosted elsewhere. We're looking for a new host site and may have to contact certain past artists for their art again once one is found. We intend to have this issue fixed before this year's fest is revealed in June. We apologise if this discourages artists from participating, though we would always encourage you to share your art on Tumblr, Instagram, or elsewhere too once a fest is revealed, in any case.

the thing is i REALIZE that everyone who ships lizzie x fred is doing it while lizzie is an adult which she is in canon. and i don't really put that ship on the same level as b**tlebabes, bc It Isn't. but i also still think its kinda weird.

because fred is a representation of her childhood rage and yearning for freedom. fred IS lizzie. at his core, fred very much reads like a child-oriented ageless being? if that makes sense? so it makes it kinda weird on lizzie's end to be into him.

and while lizzie was a little girl, she envisioned fred appearing as an adult man. and 99% of the time fred has known her, he has known her as a little girl. so it makes it kinda weird on fred's end to be into her.

all around its just kind of weird in a bad way. and the more you think about it the worse it becomes.

anyway this is a post about how the kiss at the end of drop dead fred was platonic/familial and i get misreading that when you watched it as a kid but its 2024 now and if you dont understand that sometimes people give their loved ones a peck in a way that is not romantic you are kind of bad at media literacy
