Then as the sky had already darkened and John was considering throwing on some clothes and just leaving the hotel altogether before he would do anything drastic with his anger raising anytime the headboard would slam on the other side of his wall, his phone rang. He accepted the call, doubting Sabrina's voice would cancel out the couple's latest role-playing round. "Hey.", she wore a content smile, her overall demeanor the complete opposite of what he was feeling at that moment. "Hey.", he forced himself to return her grin, but guessed it hadn't worked if he was to judge by the frown she gave him. "What's wrong?" "This,", he said as he rose up in bed and brought the phone closer to the adjoining wall between the two rooms. "Is that-", she paused, blinking quickly at the array of noises that carried over. "Yes. They're, excuse my French,", he let out a humorless chuckle at the accidental pun, "fucking. Have been for hours, Detective." "And the hotel isn't doing anything?" "I called reception to deal with them multiple times, it's like they're taking my complaints as encouragement." "Jesus." "She's been trying to summon him for a while now." A laugh broke free before she quickly said, "I'm sorry." "Don't be… I can imagine how amusing it could be from an outsider perspective. Me on the other hand… I'm contemplating spending my night in the bathroom." He rubbed at his eye, feeling a migraine approaching, "I'm close to just going out, and I have no idea where I would even go." "John." "Yeah?" She looked torn, almost like she was unsure if she should voice whatever was on her mind. "Now you're worrying me.", he remarked at her furrowed eyebrows. "I'm thinking." He cracked a small smile, "I see that." The woman in room 310 began chanting, making him squeeze his eyes shut as he reminded himself he needed to remain calm. Monday can't come quickly enough. What I wouldn't do for the universe to stop hating me and grant me a plane ticket before Friday. "Have to say, I'm jealous - I certainly can't hear my own thoughts.", he uttered out, raking a hand through his hair.
In my best Cortana voice at John:

Hey I don't know if you see this but If you have the time can you write a story about Leon taking care of with Isabelle and Olivia when Claire was kidnapped during Revelations 2?♥️I can imagine how all of this destroyed the poor man🥺🥺
This is so angsty, you have been warned!
Leon was aware that something was amiss when he realized he had a collection of almost twenty missed calls between Chris, Jill, and Barry Burton of all people just within the last hour. Looking at his call logs Leon realized the three had been trying to reach him for a while. He had been collecting his things and getting ready to head home for the night. It was reaching almost midnight - yet another in a string of long nights as he prepared to ship out soon for another assignment. All he wanted was to savor the time he had left with his wife and children before having to leave again for the first time since Olivia was born. From a quick glance at his text messages as well, he was pretty sure that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.
Chris picked up immediately. His tone of voice gave away that he was on the verge of panicking. Leon was fairly sure he had never seen the rock of a man that was Chris Redfield panic. Leon felt his heart drop into his stomach.
“Where have you been! We’ve been calling you for over an hour,” for some reason, that sent Leon on the defensive.
“You should know by now how the government is Redfield. I’ve got a new assignment coming around soon that means everyone is essentially on lockdown while we get ready.”
“I don’t give a shit about your assignment, Leon. Right now we have more important things to worry about. You need to get down to the TeraSave building right now -”
“TerraSave? What’s going on Chris?”
The other line was so silent that, for a minute, Leon thought Chirs had hung up.
“Chris?”
“It’s Claire. She’s gone.”
Leon hung up and was on the move in seconds. If Chris had anything else to say - not that Leon probably would have heard it with the way his focus zeroed in so quickly - he’d find out when they met up at TerraSave. The building was located in the private sector downtown, only about a thirty-minute drive from the compound where Leon’s office was located.
He made it in ten.
If the situation had been different, not so tense, Leon would have marveled at the fact he’d avoided a ticket with all the traffic laws he surely had broken. But, it all made sense as soon as he turned onto the street that housed TeraSave’s offices. It seemed like all the police officers in the city were converged on the scene.
Leon barely registered putting his car in park before he was jumping out. Chris must have noticed him when he pulled up. The larger man met him at the crime scene tape. He ushered Leon through, fielding protests from any officer who dared try to stop him. Leon was a federal agent. One quick show of his credentials would have offered him access anyway but, if Chris had this much authority here, then that meant the B.S.A.A was involved - most likely in charge.
“What’s going on?”
“Well if you hadn’t hung up so fast on the phone I would have told you,” Chris was guiding them through the front doors and up to the elevator. There were low-level officers, detectives, and other people in recognizable B.S.A.A gear everywhere.
“Well excuse me for trying to get here as fast as possible, Chris. You told me my wife was missing!”
“Ya well, she is. Along with Moira and several other TerraSave employees.”
Moira. As in Moira Burton. Leon had forgotten that she was at the party too. That explains the calls from Barry.
“That still doesn’t tell me what happened.”
The elevator came to a stop and, as the door opened, the details became a bit less murky. The room showed evidence of what had once seemed like a fairly decent party. Nothing close to the type of opulent galas Leon sometimes had to attend due to his position and close connections with certain people. But the kind that was meant to raise morale and celebrate the hard work that the good people of TeraSave did. Now, it was in shambles. Tables and platters of food were overturned on the floor. Shattered glass covered the far side of the room where once floor-to-ceiling windows had been shattered. Bullet holes could be found all around the room. And blood. Leon prayed none of it belonged to Claire.
“We’re still interviewing some of the employees who weren’t taken.” Chris nodded his head to a group of terrified people in a corner. Several B.S.A.A agents looked to be going back and forth between attending to minor injuries, handing out blankets and water, and taking statements.
“But,” Chris continued, “from what we’ve gathered so far two teams entered - one from the door and one from the patio. They shot through the windows and at the ceilings but not at anyone else. Well, except for one brave soul who put up the most fight. So far, he seems to be the only casualty.”
Leon followed Chris around the room as he talked him through the assault. Only casualty. He had to remind himself that Claire was just missing. Temporarily. They would find her and God help whoever they find holding her.
“It seems whoever ordered this operation had a list of people. Only they were taken. One of the women said she saw the captors inject something into some of their necks before they excited the same way they came in. Claire and the others were taken to a helicopter that we’re trying to track down now. From what others say, we think the injection was a sedative.”
Leon stood quiet for a moment trying to take everything in. At some point, he had enough wherewithal to ask about his daughters.
“Still with Jill. She said to tell you she’d watch them for as long as needed.”
“Ok. Well then call her back and tell her I’m on my way to take them home.”
“Leon, we’re in the middle of the investigation. You know as well as I do that this is the most crucial time! We need you here.”
And while that may be true, while he wanted so badly to tear this place apart brick by brick until he found anything to lead him to his Claire, he was a father now. He had to put his children first.
“And my girls need me more! They’re kids, Chris. Olivia is just a baby. I bet they don’t even know their mother is gone yet and I’m going to have to be the one to tell them. And then I have to be there to help them through it. I owe them that.”
Chris was silent for a moment while he processed Leon’s words. His face showed a begrudging understanding and if he thought his choice of words was a bit odd, he didn’t say anything.
“Fine. I’ll let Jill know. Keep your phone close, I’ll call if I find anything.”
“You better.”
With that, Leon was moving again. He took the stairs down to the lobby this time as he didn’t think he could stand being stuck in the elevator. The stairs were also faster.
__________
The first few weeks were the hardest. Due to the type of his work, Leon wasn’t able to get out of his mission. That left both girls without a parent for almost an entire week. Jill had been more than willing to watch them while he was away and Cathy Burton also promised to stop by a few times to make sure Izzy and Liv were ok. Leon couldn’t express to them how thankful he was especially to Cathy considering that her own daughter was still missing.
Leon took every precaution possible while out in the field. Hunnigan was very surprised at his lack of flashiness as well as the fact that he hadn’t ignored any orders. When he got back, he was able to take some much needed time off. Hunnigan was able to pull some strings for him and Leon cashed in at least a few weeks of time off. His missions were halted until he deemed himself ready to go back but, eventually, he would have to return to work even if just in a desk position.
Leaving the girls in the midst of Claire still missing - with no leads at that - proved to be a disaster when Leon returned home. Izzy was always a bit clingy when he came back from missions - Olivia was still a bit too young to truly understand how long Leon was gone - but with her Mommy also gone and not real answers to her questions about it, she jacked it up about ten levels. Leon has explained to Izzy that there was an accident at work and Mommy would be gone for a while. She shouldn’t worry though because uncle Chris was looking for her and she would be home soon. That was still a bit hard for a three year old to grasp. Most of her time was spent following her Daddy around the house to the point that Leon had almost tripped over her a few times.
Leon had his own breaking point about three weeks after his return. It had been an extremely hard last few days. Izzy hadn’t wanted to go to day care at all that week for fear that her Mommy might come home while she was away. Leon didn’t have the heart to argue with her about it and, besides, it wasn’t like he had to go to work at the moment. Having a four month old who needed a lot of attention at home with his three year old would be a lot under normal circumstances. It was safe to say that these were not normal circumstances.
Liv had been crying for what had felt like hours. Leon wasn’t sure how long he’d been in the nursery with her, pacing across the room cooing and rocking. Really trying everything he could think of to get her to calm down. The sudden switch to formula had not gone over well with the baby and while this seemed to be a consistent pattern, Olivia having more trouble than usual falling and staying asleep, tonight it seemed even worse.
“I know, little bug, I know. I miss Mommy too.”
That only seemed to make the little girl cry harder.
“Daddy,” Izzy wandered into the nursery, obviously tired and rubbing at her eyes, “I no sleep.”
“I know, princess. I’m sorry your sister is keeping you up. I’m trying.”
“Mommy know how make Livy sleep.”
“Well, unfortunately, I’m not Mommy. I’m trying my best Izzy. Can you go back to your room for me? Go lay down and I’ll be there in a minute.”
Leon really wished it had been him. Claire was so great with the girls. He loved him with all his heart and when they got to the other side of this dark tunnel, Leon vowed that he was going to spend so much more time with them. All of them.
“No, I want Mommy! Where’s Mommy?”
Leon wasn’t sure what made him do what he did next. Well, that’s a lie. He was tired and stretched to the end of his rope and he was trying his best but damn it he really missed his wife. Having two kids to worry about left him little time to process what was going on for himself.
“So do I, Izzy! But I don’t know where Mommy is and I don’t know how to do this. I’m trying my best so just… stop! Stop and go lay down.”
Leon was stunned. Izzy seemed stunned. So did Olivia as she had stopped crying. He couldn’t believe what had just happened. He yelled at his daughter. How could he do that?
Tears began to form in Isabell’s eyes. She turned and ran into her room as fast as she could. Leon didn’t know what to do. He’d managed to get one of his girls to stop crying but had made the other start.
He stayed in the nursery for a few more moments, gently rocking Olivia to make sure she’d drift off to sleep and, hopefully, stay asleep. All the while he could hear the sound of Isabell crying into her pillow. Eventually, Leon placed Liv into her crib and tiptoed his way into the hall.
He paused outside the door to Izzy’s room. She must have shut it on her way in which was uncharacteristic of her. She always asked for the door to be cracked when she went to bed at night. That way the night light from the hallway could brighten up the corner of her room that her’s couldn’t reach. Leon looked to his right only to be met with Claire’s smiling face. A collage of pictures were carefully framed to show some of their happiest moments together as a family - their wedding day, when they told their family that Claire was pregnant, pictures from when both the girls were born, birthdays and Christmases. Looking at those photos Leon couldn’t help the dark thoughts from creeping in. What if they never found Claire? What if she never got to see their girls grow up and make picture collages with their own families one day?
He pinched his wrist to ground himself. Thinking like that never gets you anywhere good. It certainly wasn’t going to solve his major fuck up.
“Izzy,” he called gently before opening her door, “I’m sorry ok? Daddy’s just really stressed and I didn’t mean anything I said.”
His little girl was curled up in a ball on her bed hugging a small, stuffed duck like her life depended on it. Leon recognized it as the one Claire had gotten for her a few weeks before everything happened. It had been an impulse buy. She said it had just reminded her of Izzy and she felt she needed to have it. Leon was glad she had something to remind her of her Mommy. Something to give her comfort when he couldn’t.
“Can I come in?” Leon felt it was only right to ask before he approached her bed.
Izzy nodded, burrowing her face further into her duck. She mumbled out an apology. That just made Leon feel even worse.
“You have nothing to be sorry about. I’m sorry Princess, please forgive me? I love you and your sister so much. I’m really trying, baby, but I really miss Mommy too.”
Slowly, Izzy moved so Leon could hold her. For a minute, he was afraid of holding her too tight but maybe holding onto her tight was the only thing that could keep his heart from shattering into pieces. He couldn’t help himself from crying silently as he placed kisses on her daughter’s head.
“I don’t know where Mommy is right now but I know that she's gonna come home to us.”
“Promise?”
No, he couldn’t promise that. But he would if it meant his baby girl could sleep just a little better at night. Even if it meant more sleepless nights for himself.
“Promise.”
