ok but i'm possessed by the conviction that sascha absolutely knew something was Up with isi's gender WAY before they even considered their discomfort through that lens and he just very correctly never brought it up. like sascha volunteers in a queer youth group that is very vocal about trans stuff and he's always listened to isi very carefully he has to have known

Seeing the recent development of season 8 finally enabled me to pinpoint what went/goes wrong with Druck season 7 and 8.
Both Isi and Mailin engage in multiple questionable and sometimes objectively bad actions. This is not the problem, since every SKAM main has done this so far. The problem is, that some actions do not get called out as bad, or do require an apology from the main, but do not get one.
For Isi we have for example: stealing at your friend’s workplace, irresponsible behavior with drugs and alcohol, lying, and letting your friends down (I’m also thinking about Zoe and Kieu My here).
For Mailin we have: destroying school property, kissing without consent, attacking someone for their values/beliefs in a passive-aggressive way.
These behaviors do not get resolved, because there is an escalating order of the characters problematic behaviors, which makes the older ones seem unimportant compared to a huge ‘main mistake’ the character makes (in Mailin’s case it is the nudes getting leaked and in Isi’s case it is not showing up to Sascha’s gig). In Isi’s season, this behavior ends up being the only one with a resolution and apologetic actions, and it would not surprise me if Mailin’s season is centered around the nudes from now on.
Also, in past seasons, the character’s behavior was somehow always linked to their struggle, therefore putting them in a dilemma situation and making us understand why they could possibly do such stuff, even though we objectively regard it as bad. It makes us feel empathy for the character, and in the end, when the character tries to make up for their mistakes, we root for them. To illustrate this, I have written down Matteos problematic behaviors with certain characters, how it is linked to his internal struggle, and how he makes up for it:
Matteo and Amira: Matteo hides weed in Amiras backpack, gives an absolute shit about their biology exam and attacks her for being religious; reason: Matteo feels insecure about his sexuality and possible homophobic reactions and also is not able to concentrate on school at the moment resolution: Matteo invites Amira for a coffee, shows actual effort for studying, apologizes, and also has the talk with Amira about biology/Islam and homosexuality which puts him at ease about homophobia
Matteo and his friend group: is uninterested in engaging in activities with his friend group, and ends up yelling at them after his break up with Sarah reason: Matteo feels pressured by the heteronormative expectations of his friends, and feels like an outsider for not being straight, and feels like he cannot talk about his actual problems with his friends (David leaving him alone) resolution: Matteo comes out to Jonas and explains himself, thereby receiving support for his situation, later meets up with his friends and apologizes
Matteo and Sarah: Matteo is a horrible boyfriend to Sara, rejecting her when she wants physical intimacy without explanation, and cheats on her with David reason: Matteo is not ready to come out and wants to fit in into the heteronormative image of society resolution: Matteo visits Sarah at her home, explains his situation and apologizes
Matteo and Hans: Matteo is a horrible flatmate, very messy/dirty, and attacks Hans for being openly gay reason: Matteo struggles with internalized homophobia and being heartbroken, and with these struggles he is not really able to take care of himself and his surroundings resolution: Matteo has a whole cleaning session in one clip, and later asks Hans for his advice twice, acknowledging that he is his ‘Gay Guru’
I could list even more examples, but you get the idea. Matteo makes up for almost everything he does in his season. He properly apologizes. Multiple times. And we can link almost every behavior of Matteo to his internal dilemma situation (being a closeted gay teenager and falling in love with a boy for the first time).
In Isi’s season, their mistakes were almost never connected to their internal struggle (gender identity crisis), but to the affection they felt for Lou. And since the two of them do not even end up being lovers, it is hard to make that a believable reason for Isi to commit all these mistakes, and ultimately to ‘forgive’ them for their mistakes or feeling like we understand them.
In Mailin’s season I don’t even recognize one distinctive internal struggle (except for being unexperienced maybe, but that is not a good reason to do any of the stuff Mailin does??). Her behaviors lack a proper explanation for me which makes it hard for me to feel empathy towards her.
Plus, both Isi and Mailin seemed to get the most perfect, ‘clean’ Love Interests. I’m sorry, but I never saw any major character flaws in both Sascha and Finn. This even exaggerates the contrast between the ‘bad’ actions of Isi and Mailin and their ‘innocent’ love interests. In combination, all of this leads me to think that neither Isi nor Mailin deserves someone like Finn/Sascha. The relationship seems ‘unbalanced’.
In conclusion, the new DRUCK writers do not seem to have understood how the show used to work. And how to portray a main as likeable. And this is sad, because it could have been fixed with a few more honest apologies, the characters internal struggle as the link between all of this, and a steady building up of conflicts instead of a tendency towards escalation.

Remember during Druck s7 when someone said that there was no need for an Ava season because apparently Druck had enough BIPOC representation through their three interracial couples

Hi, it's the Isi anon again. I can't believe it's been almost a year since S7 and yes i had so many (dissapointed) expectations, too but also there were some really cool moments in the season, and oh boy i was reliving them tonight. Like the David reappearance (i screamed), the pronoun scene (i cried), saschisi slowburn (i suffered) and everyone going insane over Christmas holiday (i lost my sanity lmao)... I'd give everything to go back to that time again, just to feel the emotions i felt when i was experiencing this for the first time.
(also, your reply was so nice, ill try to sleep now, i hope you will get some rest as well <3)
THE INSANITY OF THE CHRISTMAS WEEK OMFG THAT WAS SO TERRIBLE the way we were all going crazy and they just wouldnt drop a new clip dhjjhdfshjdfhj
but i def agree w all your thoughts, like i know the season was badly handled and all but it is so dear to me and has so many moments that are just so gdhjsdfdfhjdfhj i miss being in isi's pov it was so nice i wanna go back😭😭😭
(hope you had a good sleep <333)

Most Important Scenes - Sascha Belin
Part 6 of my essays on favorite scenes for each character.
Dressing up is not really my thing. Neither is getting blackout drunk.
Tumblr media
In the first scene we meet Sascha, we basically learn this: He is nothing like Isi and Isi's other friends. And I remember watching that scene and I couldn't help but ask myself: How did these two become so close? Why are they even friends?
And I believe this scene does not only establish Sascha as a character, it tells us something about Isi as well. They are not only partying, getting drunk and having fun with their friends, there is another side of Isi, which we are slowly getting to know. And it is telling us about Sascha's and Isi's friendship, one that isn't coined by superficialities or going out for the next adventure. Rather, it seems to take place right there, in Isi's room. Which is a very intimate setting, from the very beginning.
And let's talk about the symbolism of 'getting dressed up' and 'getting blackout drunk'. Sascha likes neither of these, because he is this down-to-earth character, who knows who he is and what he wants. Isi, on the other hand, has both a tendency to hide their real intentions and to unhealthy escapism. And these two things not being a part of their friendship is like the base of their dynamic, almost foreshadowing. When does Isi face their problems? When are they not 'dressed up'? With Sascha.
You are not alone, okay?
Fast forward a few weeks, same setting, very different atmosphere.
Tumblr media
It is the scene where Isi opens up about their gender struggles for the first time. I talked at length about why I find this scene so sad from Isi's perspective, and I have a few more things to mention about it from Sascha's point of view.
The first aspect is how Sascha doesn't get it in the beginning. "You don't need to adapt for anyone." he says.
While this is a well-meant advice, it doesn't comfort Isi in any way, because this is the core of the problem: we always need to adapt. And Isi gets angry and snaps. And to be honest, I get them. "you don't need to adapt" is so often a remark from those who already fit in perfectly.
Sascha listens attentively, not saying anything for the moment. He doesn't get angry, he doesn't try to comfort Isi again, he is on the verge of opening up about his feelings, but he doesn't do it. This is not his moment and his place to talk. He just listens. And this is such a good take-away from that scene, because we all will eventually get confronted with things we don't understand. But we acually don't need to immediately understand or offer helpful advice. Sometimes, it is good enough to just stay in the background, let the other person talk and to let them know that you are there. Which Sascha does as well: "You are not alone, okay?"
You are doing the same thing to me that Consti is doing to you.
Tumblr media
Sascha was a very passive character throughout the season, mostly listening and reacting to stuff Isi did (or didn't do).
This is the scene where he - finally - gets some agency. Some words of his own, some space to talk about himself and his feelings. I think we all knew that the Isi-Consti parallel was about to be brought up at some point, but having Sascha say it? Nice choice! Don't let victims of toxic relationships be only passive, let them speak up and reclaim their space. I love to see it!
And what was it like with your dad?
Tumblr media
I didn't want to end with such a negative scene, so I'm writing a few sentences about this one as well, because it actually tells us a lot about Sascha.
First, his family background: His parents are separated, and he, like Lou, was involved in some family drama.
What I find remarkable as well is how well Lou and Sascha get along. Consider how Sascha was jealous for weeks before that, because of everything that happened between Isi and Lou. I really have a strong dislike for any type of love triangle, but this is genuinely a nice outcome of one.
Last point: this scene, again, establishes Sascha as a listener (showing interest, asking follow up questions). And that poor boy really listened to everything, from Consti drama to Isi's feelings for Lou, without ever saying much. I know I said this before, but listening is an underrated gesture. Which is why I eventually ended up liking Sascha as a character. Yes, he might not be the best developed one, and I would have loved to learn more about him or see him grow. But he's a sweetheart, I have to give him that.

Ranking the SKAM Remakes!
Hi! This is my first ever time posting on Tumblr so I felt like it would be good to introduce myself. And what better way to do that on an account dedicates to SKAM than talk about my favourite remakes! This list goes from 7th to 1st place with 1 being the best.
In dead last…: SKAM FRANCE 🇫🇷: If you would’ve asked me what my favourite remake was 2 years ago, this one definitely would’ve been up there. The original actors were so perfect and the storylines felt totally realistic and relatable to me, despite being quite similar to the original SKAM. In season 3 when Eliott talks to Lucas about his bipolar and how with a mental illness you have good days and bad days, I felt totally seen. It felt like Eliott was speaking my truth. And then the original seasons came. I really season 5, in fact it’s my favourite season of the show. Season 6 was pretty good too, but after that the show just lost its appeal to me. It just feels like they pump out some random ‘big’ social issue for dramatic effect at the start of the season and expand on it a bit and then just go back to scenes of the Mif. And season 8, that was honestly just a mess. We didn’t even get to see Bilal in his new house! I’ve not seen seasons 9 or 10 yet but I don’t even know if I should bother. The show doesn’t feel like SKAM anymore and more like a French Euphoria. Do you guys think I should watch seasons 9 or 10? Tell me in the comments.
6th Place: WTFOCK 🇧🇪: For me, this remake is always pretty good. It’s never really been my favourite but I can see the appeal for others; it’s cute and Sobbe really do have great chemistry. But my issues for this show lie in 2 of its seasons: seasons 1 and 4. Personally, season 1 is always the hardest SKAM season to watch, I don’t know why but I never seem to properly connect with the Eva characters. But with Jana, I didn’t connect at all. I found her really annoying and whiney and she just made the season really difficult and boring to follow. Seasons 2 and 3 of this show are great, in fact I’d go as far to say that this show had the best season 2. But then we had season 4. I think it’s cool that they introduced Kato as a new character but her season was pretty bad. They had so much potential to give us a season about the differences between Instagram and reality, or even expand on Kato’s self harm a little bit more than just those 2 scenes. For me, watching the season didn’t really excite me at all. I liked season 5 though, even though Yasmin’s didn’t get the completely best ending, it did really well at illustrating how POC are pretty much always dealt the short end of the stick.
5th Place: Druck 🇩🇪: I don’t know what it was about this remake but I just never felt like it was giving me too much like the others. It’s a good solid remake that dares to be creative a bit whilst still staying true to the source material, but apart from that, that’s all I can really say about it. I liked Druck’s idea of giving a trans character the spotlight in season 3 and exploring the world of trans rights in German schools but the rest of this remake just feels so ‘meh’. It all just kinda fell flat and was really underwhelming. At the new seasons in this show still have an ounce of SKAM blood in them, I can actually kind of relate to some of the characters. In season 7 when Kieu My was talking about her struggles accepting her bisexuality, I totally understood what she felt because I’ve had very similar struggles with my sexuality. The new of seasons of Druck, like the original seasons, show a character developing and growing which is something I really like. Overall this show is a good solid remake, just a bit boring and flat in parts. 4th Place: SKAMNL 🇳🇱: This remake was so cute!! I’m currently watching it just now and it’s totally adorable! The girl squad seem to get on really well and they always have each other’s backs. My main criticism of the show is it’s season 2. Honestly, the guy who replaces Eskild just annoys me so much! He doesn’t seem as cool and supportive as the original and the whole vibe of the flatshare just feels off. Despite being adorable, season 2 just has really weird vibes and I’m not really a fan.
3rd Place: SKAM España 🇪🇸: The one thing I’m commending this show for is its inventiveness. It added so many differences to the original show that it was genuinely super interesting to watch. This show had one of the only few Eva seasons that I didn’t dislike. I also like the changes they made to seasons 3 and 4 and I felt like they were excellently done, perfect! Also Alejandro was so chill and the only William that I didn’t think was a toxic asshole! But then we had season 2. I loved the fact that they gave us sapphic representation and let it be a couple of 2 girls instead of another 2 skinny white boys kissing. As someone who likes girls themself, it was really great to finally see the representation that I’d been so needing from the skamverse. Unfortunately for me, the season just fell flat. It just felt the entire time like something was missing. It just felt kinda boring and uninteresting compared to the other Evak seasons. I’m really glad they made the season not spicy though and they managed to craft a cute love story without making it oversexualised. It was a pretty good show, but season 2 was kinda boring at points.
2nd Place: SKAM Austin 🇺🇸: This remake is so adorable it just makes my heart smile so much sjdjfhfgfhdjidjdhd. I really loved how cute and adorable everything was, especially Kelsey, she literally has my heart. Kelsey was definitely the best Vilde, now of course she has her moments but she’s so lovely and so supportive of everyone and I really liked her. I really enjoyed seeing how an American version of the show turned out and it’s honestly just awesome. The only criticism I really have of SKAM Austin is that because it’s American and it’s very American, I didn’t really relate fully to the characters and stories as much as I could have would it have been another European remake.
1st Place 🥇: SKAM ITALIA!!!!!!!!!! 🇮🇹: This show is perfect! The acting, the cinematography, everything is just beautiful. I really liked all of the seasons in this show and I’m glad they did them in the ways they did. In season 1 we saw Eva develop into a really good friend. In season 2, we saw Martino and Niccolò develop a beautiful romance but we were also shown what it’s like to be gay in Italy. It’s awful, we fear for our lives because the country isn’t necessarily the most accepting, especially the older generations. Season 3 was great too, Ele was given the time and space she needed to process her sexual assault and I’m glad that the show let her come to her boyfriend to talk about what happened instead of making her have the words taken from her mouth. In season 4, they managed to humanise Sana in a way that the other remakes didn’t. I love this show and I really hope they don’t ruin it with the original season that they announced at the start of the year.

No but if yara is the girl zoe is crushing on, i'll like it, but i'm gonna be so sad because they CLEARLY could've used her as the li for s7 and i'll never get over how the storyline would be much better with her than just adding two white characters with almost no personality, one as a fake li and another as a the "real" li who barely had any development with Isi
