i just wanna say,
as someone who is working/ has been working for drug prevention- the amount of dedicated media with it is SO minuscule,
to the point where it's either glorifying it (euphoria, the idol), or making it seem like the most dangerous thing through PSAs
which is why i go HARD for joshua bassett
you can tell me anything about his time with olivia, and how she seems to still be egging on him in her music: but he's doing something that no one is doing, not even christian singers:
he advocates for people to get help.
putting drug prevention and awareness in your video is fine. it's actually putting statistics and resources to get help that make this so genuinely important and kind.
there's a balance, and that balance starts with accurate resources and trusted professionals

If you struggle with substance abuse but not addiction, you still deserve support. If you struggle with suicidality/self harm urges but don't act on it, you still deserve support. If you struggle with psychosis and paranoia but have insight, you still deserve support. If you struggle with anything but are "coping with it," you still deserve support.
You dont need to be in imminent crisis to get help - safety planning, harm reduction, resources, and accommodations. You're still struggling. You're still suffering, You're still at risk/in danger. You deserve better - you need better. Your health and wellbeing matters.

did anyone else the first time they smoked some weed instantly flash back to third grade and remember that they signed a giant poster board saying they'd never ever do drugs and instantly think to themselves "man, Mrs Jones is gonna fucking pissed when she finds out"?

As overdoses in Edmonton reach record-high levels, users can visit a free drug-checking site that will analyze substances to determine what is in them and whether they've been cut with high-potency materials.
The Spectrum drug testing program, which operates Monday and Friday afternoons at 105th Street and Jasper Avenue, uses a Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometer to analyze stimulants, including cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA, and opioids like heroin and fentanyl.
Spectrum, launched last week by the Queer and Trans Health Collective, is the first physical site in Edmonton to offer a drug-checking service.
"We know that people are going to use substances whether we like it or not," Jess Murray, the collective's harm-reduction manager, said in an interview last week.
"We just want to make sure that if they are using substances, they know what's in the substances, they're able to get supplies for their substances to use them more safely."

I've always found the argument against sharps containers being in accessible, public places (e.g. public restrooms) to be weird because... If people are going to use anyway (which, at some point, becomes necessary because withdraw can be, literally, deadly), I'd rather them being able to properly dispose of their equipment. Sharps can be vessels that contain disease regardless of if you use the sharp for medicine, drugs, or drawing blood. It's a matter of the safety of the person using the sharp and other people's safety if the sharps containers are in places where it is known that sharps are turning up.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) has signed a bill that bans state and local governments from mandating COVID-19 vaccines for workers after a similar ban expired last month.
The legislation signed Thursday is aimed at defending citizens’ “individual liberty,” Sanders said at a press conference prior to its signing.
The legislation also prohibits COVID-19 vaccinations from being required as a condition of education, or for obtaining a service or licensure, permit or certificate of some kind. Any potential risks and harms associated with the shots must also be recorded and published by the state.
The bill is different from the state’s prior ban on vaccine mandates, which first went into effect in 2021, in that it covers vaccines or immunizations for any subvariants of the coronavirus, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
The latest COVID-19 vaccine, which was federally authorized for use this week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, is specially designed to reduce major illness and illness from omicron virus variants that are currently circulating.
In total, Sanders signed 11 bills on Thursday.
A separate bill she signed restricts the public release of her travel and security records. That bill, which went into immediate effect, shields details about the security that the Governor and other constitutional officers receive.
These details include who travels on the State Police airplane and the cost of individual trips. Sanders argued that it was needed for her and her family’s safety, though some critics said it eliminates government transparency.
State Sen. Bart Hester (R), who co-sponsored the bill, said at Thursday’s press conference that all of the state’s elected government leaders are still able to see the travel receipts through audit. The law also requires the state to file a quarterly report listing the monthly costs of protecting the Governor.
