Wait, you use Drupal? I've always loved Drupal, but people keep telling me I should switch to WordPress. Even Dries is affiliated with the WordPress team now. It's all so confusing.
(sighing)
Once upon a time, all our household sites ran on Drupal. But time went by and WordPress improved, and (around the same time) I realized that Life Was Too Short To Manually Update Core Every Other Damn Day. So one by one the sites got switched over.
The very, very last one still running on Drupal (7.x, as it happens) was our very first site, European Cuisines. Which is down at the moment, because the last update to 7.9.4 broke it. This almost certainly has to do with a theme that is now superannuated and which couldn't bear changing versions of PHP.
Now, we have a migration of D7 to WP 6.1.1 waiting up in a subdirectory, ready to be moved down to the root. But before I do that I want to make sure that we have all the original page and post URLs preserved somewhere else offsite, in a different domain and install, so that as we bring the WP install online, we can make sure they're duplicated as closely as possible (not to mention me writing about a zillion 301 redirects into the .htaccess file) and don't trash twenty years' worth of SEO. ...And the D7 site, because it's damaged, is making this AS DIFFICULT FOR ME AS (in)HUMANLY POSSIBLE.
Therefore I am out of sorts.
...Fortunately, in about fifteen minutes @petermorwood is going to take me out to our local shopping town and ply me with drink by way of celebrating our Paperwork Anniversary. And I AM SO FECKING READY FOR THAT.
Tumblr media
...So! Onwards. ...And thanks for inquiring. :)

Of course, We Don't Talk About Drupal took over everything else 🙄 That's what we get for giving our support team the aux cord. Lesson learned.

Drupal vs Webflow: what is the better choice?
Tumblr media
Introduction
Every business that has an online presence depends on content management systems to manage their website and blog. There are so many different kinds of content management systems around, so which one would be the best for your business? Each content management system has their own qualities and features, so choosing one out of all of them would be tough.
The benefit of using CMS is that it doesn’t require high level coding knowledge and so anyone with minimum coding knowledge can create functional pages and modify the website themselves. In this article, we would be discussing Drupal and Webflow, two of the most popular CMS around.
What is Drupal?
Drupal was founded way back in 2001 by Dries Buytaert in Belgium. The name for the CMS was initially intended as Druppel, meaning droplet in Ditch. But he accidentally misspelt the name to Drupal while he was searching for a domain name, and the name stuck. Ever since it was introduced into the world, Drupal became one of the most popularly used CMS around, used by millions of websites, including small websites, huge corporation websites, government agencies etc. The web developer community of Drupal grew and eventually you had documentation and support.
The multiple features of Drupal contributed to its major success:

Drupal 10 Poll Module | 2023
The Poll module at https://www.drupal.org/project/poll is great but doesn't work with Drupal 10 unless you use the 8.x-1.x-dev version.
Watch as I walk through creating a poll and explain every step.

Website tropes
Amazon Kindle Author - likely uses Wix, Weebly or otherwise.
System (DID, Endo otherwise) - Likely has a carrd for DNI, uses multple social medias and is way too lazy (note this is a joke btw) to make an actual website these days.
Linux geek who codes everything in OG HTML, Javascript and CGI.
College professor who only uses Wordpress, and by wordpress we mean "Block Editing System" wordpress.
I know nothing of the web except DRUPAL.
Tried to start a social media website once, knew nothing about PHp - will bitch on tumblr about kids not using VPNS (lol us)
Indie Music Label promotions - doesn't have a website, or if they do it's broken, doesn't work and when an artist tries to research you they only get your twitter.
The only safe websites for me are "DECENTRALIZED WEBSITES" (but in reality all i use is tumblr and youtube)
8, but without tumblr, youtube - uses only the mastodon equivalent, runs their own version of mastodon, and constantly wonders where their time went
Right wingers who still live in 1995, and wonder where their AOL Password went.
Tesla Employees
"Website? WHATS A WEBSITE" " Our business only uses facebook man. get with the times!"
"Instagram is worse than only fans, I only use Hive"
"What's a website, like - I still read newsgroups using my 14000 baud modem from the early 90s"
*plugs in Commodore 64, starts making dial up noises*
Reminder: This is a joke, XD and was also taking the piss at our own laziness LOL.

Drupal 10
Drupal 10 will be released in December 2022, and that time will be here sooner than we think. What is great about post Drupal 7 upgrades is that they are more similar to WordPress upgrades with fewer API changes compared to Drupal 7 to 8 Upgrades where most of the API changed.
Big jump in the editor to CKEditor 5, boosting Drupal for a more up to date feel for editors, this is important.
Big change, Drupal 10 will employ version 6 of it’s PHP MVC platform (skipping version 5) upgrading from version 4.We can expect some API differences here.
Another big change will be the requirement of PHP 8.1. Some pretty big changes there but perhaps not as many as getting PHP 5 to PHP 7.
The main admin theme is called Claro. Do not know anything about this but many developers were using a different admin theme over Seven previously.
Similar change with the default them, which will be Olivero. Because most commercial Drupal sites use a custom theme, this change will not affect much.
We are promised a better Layout Builder experience, many are looking forward to that.
Decoupled should be supported more strongly with better experiences for devs.
Where to get help, there is always the Upgrade status module: https://www.drupal.org/project/upgrade_status and a Page for Drupal 10 on the main Drupal website: https://www.drupal.org/about/10
While I was initially skeptical of Drupal moving to the PHP MVC stack, it’s looking to be a good way to go for mostly forward compatible upgrades and for keeping the libraries up to date.
